Sangria's is a redemption story for me. Lol. Last spring my husband and I came here and ended up having horrific customer service. The waitress was training or on training probation or something odd. In short, she was a real piece of work. She screwed up continually, from not telling us about the margarita specialties, not specifying what came in certain dishes we asked about and cutting us dirty looks when we would ask questions! When I realized my chiles rellenos was screwed up, I asked her to take it back. So then she made a jerking gesture with her hands like "here! Give the damn thing back, then!" Okay, manager time. I believe the manager's name was Sarah. She came out on her own, I do not know if she saw our waitress come back in with my food or what, but she came to our table and was sincerely apologetic. She said that she would be our waitress for the rest of the meal and gave us discounted prices on all of our drinks! And Sarah saved the day for Sangria's!! The food is the BIZ. As are the specialty margaritas! I usually have a Blue Lagoon margarita and my husband goes with the mango habenero. Weeeew! I have been there twice since our first encounter and Sarah was our waitress during our second visit. She was just as polite and remembered me, even though it had been a few months! I try new dishes each time. I am never disappointed, not to mention the prices are fantastic for what you get! The only reason I do not give five stars is because it is a casual atmosphere in a renovated house. Definitely clean and cozy, but one evening, the lights would dim and brighten over and over. Also, although all good things are worth waiting for, the specialty margaritas do take a painfully long time, even when they are not busy. The last Blue Lagoon I had packed a punch, so I'm thinking if it took whomever that long to make it, be aware of getting your liquor measurements right! And a heads up that specialty margaritas might take longer would be a nice touch for the customer. But these are minor quibbles that I have. Again, the customer service has been excellent! The last time I was there was on my mom's birthday in February and they gave her a huge fried ice cream on the house! I could go for one of those RIGHT now! Lol We shall be seeing you again soon, Sangria's!

I was in town on business, so I decided to give Sangria's Mexican grill a try. I found it fairly kitschy and like any other average Mexican restaurant. The chips were great, the salsa wasn't my favorite. I was there on a Thursday, which meant buy one get one Margaritas, sure, why not. My drink came, and it was huge! After a long day of work it went down really fast, because why not? I have a second one coming and I'm walking to my hotel anyway. Then I was informed that the big margarita was the same as two smaller 2 for 1 drinks. Okay, I would have been fine with that, if I was told. because then I would have saved some of it for when my food actually came out. The food was fine, again, average Mexican food. The waiter was a bit strange, he kept making weird comments, I think he was trying to be funny, but I just didn't get it.

sangriasmexicangrill.net Update: I Have gone several times since. Once to give it a second chance after our miserable time (Below) because everyone has a bad night. The second time was a terrific experience. A group of 6, terrific waiter and fantastic food. The third time we dined here it was a group of four. The entrance to the restaurant/Bar is ill conceived, cramped and awkward. On this night the hostess stand stood empty, the bar full with bartender noticing us but not bothering to let us know someone would be with us shortly. As we stood there (6 minutes) and more people entered, overcrowding the small space, I used my cell to call the restaurant. the phone rang at least 8 rings when two women slowly walked down the stairs to answer it. I hung up and listened to the woman who answered gripe about how incredibly rude people are for calling and hanging up. She went on describing how difficult her job was and how disturbing her did not help; We were seated, this time our server/Waiter was uninterested. in us and the food took excessively long it was mediocre and bland. We wont be going back. Stopped by last night waiting for our group of 6 to meet up. The host told us they would not be serving alcohol that night. They had lost their liquor license for a limited time. The only two people there, we sat at the bar and text friends of the situation. 8 different employees walked back and forth behind the bar no one served us. After 10 minutes and the ok from the group to eat here I asked the host if we would be able to have water, tea, anything he hurriedly said of course we are serving our non-alcoholic drinks and other things then walked away. After a total of 20 minutes sitting at the bar without any acknowledgement from the 8 different employees who continually walked behind it we changed plans. We told the host our party had agreed to stay despite being "Dry" but we were unwilling to bring them to a place that purposefully ignored (the only) 2 customers for 20 minutes. We are not going back and the other 4 members upon hearing our experience voiced similar opinions.

mobile review I grew up in Az and have eatin my share of Mexican food. This place should be put on Downtown Appleton's best Mexican restaurant's. They need at least one more bartender. Wait time on drinks was too long if you are waiting for one of there awesome Margaritas. They have a great selection of higher tier tequilas!! I will return for that reason alone. I understand why people would be frustrated with slow service but you can call ahead and they are friendly. I can deal with friendly and slow but slow and nasty is another thing. Go see for yourself, do let the other reviews steer you wrong.

Ordered food for pick up. I had the Classic Chimi with ground beef. The ground beef was the biggest flaw. It was a very fine ground beef which tells me this isn't made fresh. It had a bitter after taste. The side item of Rajas Poblanos was OK. The friend I ordered with said the food was ok but they did mess up her order. The staff seemed very friendly while we were there, so nothing wrong with that. I've just had better better food than this. To me it comes off bland with little seasoning/ fresh food.

Best Mexican restaurant in the Valley! Have been in twice and have not had any problems with waiting for a table or drinks. The food is fresh and high quality. Fajitas are a must try!

Service was great. Table side guacamole with bacon...yum! Dishes were spot on. Two for one Sangria didn't hurt either. Just sad I don't live there so I could go back.

My friend and I were in the area for a play. We stopped her on a whim wanting some mexican food. We were very pleased. Food was good, as was service and we liked the decor as well. We both said we would dine here again if we are ever in the area again.

We 1st got here and we were told it would be a 20-30 min wait. 55 mins later we were finally taken to our table upstairs where there were 4 other empty tables. 20 minutes later our order was taken and we were out of salsa to go with our chips. The table behind us was out of chips to go w/ their guac that they ordered. It became very ovb that we were not going to get our food anytime soon and our waiter was very non-caring of what was going on. They were ovb busy, it was a Friday night, but the lack of organization was utterly ridiculous.

Wait was MUCH longer than promised. Choppy service. Music annoyingly loud. Food is OK, but nowhere good enough to put up with everything else.

I had one slice of cheese in my quesadilla and no meat and the meat isn't seasoned at all so it leaves a depressing taste. Shit at taco bell is better P.S Great service, horrible food

Visiting Appleton, we met with the sister of a high school classmate and her husband for dinner here. Although hard to get to when coming down College and trying to turn left onto Memorial, the restaurant was worth the trip. Food was very fresh and generous portions. We started with the tableside guacamole and although it was the first time this waiter prepared it, it was quite yummy. Practically licked the bowl clean! I ordered the Loca Molcajete (A tropical dream for your taste buds! Combination of steak, chicken, shrimp, chorizo, bacon and pineapple, drizzled with our homemade white cheeese jalapeno sauce, pico de gallo, queso fresco and a fresh jalapeno) but think I got the Molcajete (Mol-Ca-Hay-Te) (The mother of all combinations! Chicken, steak, pork, shrimp, grilled onions, bell peppers, tomatoes, and cactus, topped with Sangria's sauce and pico de gallo, queso fresco and a fresh jalapeno. Served with your choice of flour or corn tortillas.) because it was extremely spicy and not sweet. Didn't matter, it was truly delicious and plentiful. We were there on a Monday night, so my strawberry margarita was doubled but wasn't strong on the alcohol. Ok by me though. Our guests raved it was the best Mexican they had tasted. Can't remember what they ordered, Mole I think. Typical Mexican atmosphere, very fresh food. Will go back again!

The decors were nice. Clean and hip. I was a bit disappointed by its menu selections. I actually had a hard time finding dishes that I like. I ended up ordering the red snapper dish (pescado a la veracruzana) with two different sides (rajas poblanos and signature tequila veggies) and two different garnishes (guacamole and pico de gallo). I do like the various options of sides/garnishes that you could order. They were quite interesting and tasty too. I should have ordered a side of rice to go with my soupy fish dish. It would have been a much better choice. The chips were freshly made. Tasty. The hot sauce was great if you also dip the chip in either the bean sauce or the salsa. The service was slow. It was a very busy Thursday night but they didn't have enough wait staff. My son's BBQ chimichanga was soggy. It was supposed to be done crispy. It's a nice place for a group of friends. Make sure you order enough appetizers or reorder the chips and salsa. Because you will definitely wait for more than 30 min to get your dishes.

So according to the locals this place is brand new to the Appleton area. Went with a couple friends to try it out, and it wasn't bad, but it didn't knock my socks off either. As for authenticity, I think they are as close as they will get in the mid-west. Coming from Arizona...I know what authentic mexican food can be. The waiters were very friendly though, and the service wasn't bad. One recommendation I can make is for them to shorten their menu; there had to be like 100 items on it! All in spanish...

Their food is good (when they are open), I can't find many places they serve black beans versus pinto. Their portions are large and I think authentic. I have recently moved and will most likely not venture over here any more. If you are in the area are would like some good Mexican food, this is an OK place to try.

I went to sangrias for dinner for my birthday last year, the interior is super cute. It's an old house turned restaurant, it has the interior you'd expect from a Mexican restaurant, bright and fun! The food was pretty good, our sangrias were super watered down though.

The staff at this restaurant treats everyone like family. The food is great! We won't go anywhere else for Mexican! P.S. ask for Joe, he's the best!

Very good experience. Chips, salsa and refried beans kept getting replenished. Kids drinks came in covered glasses. Thanks! Main dishes were delicious. Seated promptly and proactively refilled drinks.

WOW!!! Bartender was awesome, hostess was awesome, and the owner Sarah was the best. They were all so happy it was infectious. Food was great I had the three tacos. They serve bean dip with the salsa. Portions were adequate with at least two sides per dish. Quality was fresh very fresh. The best atmosphere I have ever experienced in a Mexican restaurant. I definitely can't wait to lay over here again so I can come back.

This place is a really solid addition to the Appleton restaurant scene. I went twice in two days, it was that good. The scenery and service are nice, but you know that food and cocktails are what really matters most, and this place has both. Passion fruit sangria and sangaritas were excellent. And because I had the Cazuela de Mariscos (a big bowl of delicious fish in tomatoey, spicy broth) I am not sure I'll ever be able to eat anything else here again. It was that good.

Food was terrible! My son was served an inedible, microwaved burger. He refused to eat it which I cannot blame him. Our waiter's English was terrible. Could barely understand one another. Would never go back!

Great red sangria! On Thursdays, buy one, get one! Delicious food - ordered the shrimp burrito, HUGE shrimp (and smaller ones too!), and deveined and looked and tasted like they had been flash sauteed prior to being put in the tortilla. Burrito covered with a creamy, white cheese sauce. Entree came with 2 sides - I ordered their Poblano rice and grilled tequila veggies, and 2 garnishes - I ordered guacamole and Pico de gallo. Server was friendly, funny, and always smiling! Will definitely be going back!! Chips, salsa, and bean dip were also amazing!! Salsa was homemade - could definitely tell!! Yum!! Nice quiet atmosphere, comfortable chairs, tables not too close together, perfect for a couple on a date or a group of girls having a girls' night!! :)

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
