Used to love this place when I lived in Appleton a few decades ago. Passing threw town and decided to introduce my family to this icon. Unfortunately We found Franks all around disappointing. The staff was inattentive at best and occasionally rude. We were hungry so we order cheese garlic bread but apparently this is too complicated. Instead they served us garlic bread with slices of motz cheese on the side. OK, I can handle build-your-own, but the bread was burnt black on the bottom. The large pizza was anemically thin with as little toppings as they could get by with, but it was nicely burnt on the bottom to match the garlic bread.

This place has great pizza! I was working late out of town the other night and was starving. It just so happened that a chunk of Appleton's power went out. Not Frank's! We came in late, which I always feel bad doing, but the server was very kind so us. We ordered a pitcher of Capitol Ale, salads with Italian dressing, tomato basil pizza with Canadian bacon and black olives. The salad were a little sad and seemed to be brown on the edges, and the dressing needed a little more flavor. However, the pizza was great! Large slices of tomatoes and fresh basil tasted great with the c. bacon and olives. I would come back in a heartbeat, skipping the salad, to try more of their creations.

My sister ordered pizza from Frank's late night last night. The pizza was delivered in under 45 mins and the delivery guy was super nice! The pizza was awesome! We chowed down the entire thing! The sausage was unbelievable! Also, we found it so awesome that the straws that were in our pop were pasta! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone! And I love the fact that it was open late!!

I haven't met very many pizzas that I didn't like, but this place has got to be one of the worst. Our first pizza was burnt to a crisp, so we asked for another. The second one, though not burnt, was soggy (it appears they dumped the liquid that comes with canned mushroom on top of the pizza). Very bad, very bizarre. Probably the worst pizza I've ever had.

This is the second best pizza I have ever tasted in my life. Though this is the best sit down pizza restaurant I have ever gone too. This is one of the priciest, it is worth it.

One of my favorite pizzas anywhere. When we come from MN, we have to go! I love the thin crust pizza. I believe they have deep dish, but I've never had it. Real laid back service, but that's ok. They have an old pizza oven that rotates. Awesome. The kids will sometimes have spaghetti. One had that and once had lasagne. Portions are huge.the kids enjoy the noodle straws. Delivery is available, but the kids wanted to go there instead of staying home tonight. They hold parties in the back room. We used to have volleyball and basketball parties there, but that was a long time ago.

We've had pizza here many times and have come to listen to jazz on Tuesday nights. This time we ordered delivery and had chicken parmesan, came with salad, side of pasta with super meat sauce and half a loaf of bread. Delivery was quick, food good as ever.

Not anywhere near as good as Cranky Pat's pizza! It had a very strange flavor to it and I do not think it was cooked all the way. For over $20 it should have been much better. Very disappointed I have been told it was once great! Not anymore. Also, one of the male "servers" was crabbing at a girl that worked there to not "just stand there". Well she was waiting for the register to ring up a bill. What a jerk he was to her!

Expensive delivery. Well worth it for delicious hot Napoli style Pizza. I've had their pizza three times. I started with the Frank's Special. It was way too much. Way too much sausage n way too many mushrooms. Next a pizza with anchovies, mushrooms and pepperoni. Delicious! It was perfect for the crust and sauce. I've added olives n it couldn't get any better if it tried. It's my one n only guilty pleasure. Yumm yumm

My fiancé and I were a bit underwhelmed after reading all of the great reviews here. Being new in town, we are loving trying new spots, but overall Frank's was just ok tonight. The lack of free refills, no jalapeños as a pizza topping, cash only, and rather dull atmosphere were the noted downsides. As for atmosphere, if they're going to just play the Brewers game loudly on the radio it'd be nice to have a few TVs. Also, as first timers it wasn't overly clear that we had to seat ourselves and since our receipt was hidden below the pizza we didn't know that we had to pay at the front when finished or that it was cash only. I'd eat here again as the pizza and garlic bread were pretty good, but it isn't a destination for us like other made it seem to be.

Had a group of 8 here last night before a show at the PAC, which included my elderly grandmother. Three pizzas, 2 orders of garlic bread and sodas was about $90. The restaurant was HOT, like a little sweltering. The atmosphere and decor were pretty dank. Garlic bread came as four halves, for 8 people. Had to ask for a knife to cut it. It was extremely greasy and not much flavor. I would not recommend. The three pizzas were larges, a mush/onion, mush/onion/sausage and a sausage. The crusts were flimsy and soggy, and even thought I love toppings, were a bit overloaded when it came to the mush/onions. I'd say pretty mediocre in the taste department. We had to ask for the check, which wasn't totaled. Obviously, trying to split between 8 people, a total would have been helpful. The waitress refused to get a total for us, telling me they would handle it at the register. Helpful. Sure, we'll take our table of 8 and go stand directly in the doorway in front of the cash register to figure out what we all owe and dig out our cash. Not well organized and not at all accommodating. Not to mention that both my husband and I have spent a good deal in the bathroom paying for last nights pizza, this morning. I think next time we'll just head to Stuc's!

Frank's has good pizza! There, I said it. The thin crust is a little greasy for my tastes, but the crust and sauce are excellent. The service isn't great. I went there with my dad and we ended up having to flag down our waiter for the check because he never came back to check on us and a lot of time had passed. The pizza is delicious, but this did detract a little from our dining experience at Frank's. Our water never was re-filled, either. After trying almost every pizza offered at restaurants in Appleton, I've concluded the best is Stuc's, but Frank's is certainly up there. These are quality pizzas and all Appleton residents need to try it at least once! Note: Even though I found the thin crust to be a little greasy, I definitely prefer it to Cranky Pat's!

Fantastic thin crust! I would highly recommend it. Just make sure to bring cash as they don't accept cards.

Three of us went for valentines day. We had the Franks special. Large pizza with onions, mushrooms, and sausage. It was ok. We all agreed it needed more sauce. My girlfriend wasn't a fan of the burnt crust but I didn't bother me. The price was kinda steep for 1 pizza and water to drink. $30 plus tip and a additional $2 charge to use the ATM because they are cash only. So all together it came to $37.

Really good pizza. Best in Appleton and we've tried them all. Don't believe the bad reviews. Crust is solid, and the homemade sausage is king.

Good pizza. Canollis were ok. Very cool decor. Don't miss the interesting outside storefront. The reason for the lower stars was the staff on our visits had some attitude. While visiting our friends, we stayed for a while after our pizza, and all the service stopped. No more water, drinks. Guess it was time to go. Really, if you keep serving us we will tip you better, but the lack of service & dirty looks killed it for you. Parking outfront on street. Not sure of any other parking.

Frank's has been a family gathering spot since I was knee-high to a grasshopper. Every time I visit my family in Kimberly, I beg to dine here. I just can't get enough. So, when I brought my boyfriend to a family gathering we stopped by for a pie or two - and ten, fifteen years later, it's still just as delicious. There is always a sausage and mushroom pie on our table - the sauce, the seasoning (AAAAHHHH) so, so good! And let me tell you, even my boyfriend was in awe of the pizza the first time. He's a New Yorker, born and raised, and very picky about his pizza - he should be he tries a ton of pizza, a pizza expert, if you will. His only concern was the small squares the pizza was cut into - he just didn't get that. He would have loved a traditional "slice". But flavor and crust were all on par for him. I would like to say that while I love everything about Franks, and it is certainly an Appleton Institution in my book, I missed the cartoons projected on the big screen in the back of the restaurant. There was just something awesome about cartoons and delicious salty, greasy, tastier-than-all-get-out pizza.

Every town of Appleton's size has one of these. In my hometown of Iowa City, IA it's Pagliai's Pizza. A local, small business mom and pop stop that's been around since Eisenhower. Frank's filled in that gap for me when I left home for school at LU. While Sal's has emerged as a much closer and cheaper option for slices, Frank still holds its own! The fun family ambiance is great for nights out with the fam, friends or even a casual date spot. We used to come here after football games. The pizza is top notch -- and greasy like I dig it. They have the mini gourmet pepperoni's which any true pizza fan can appreciate. They also have the ground sausage. Serving booze nightly and I've gotten drunk as well as full there many times. Good $

Good za - BAD cannoli's (don't waste the $4ea.) This is no Chicago style or stuffed pizza. Think thin crust, cracker style. Good sauce. The special with the double shrooms was yummy. Service was mediocre at best. Once the pizza was on the table we never saw our waitress. No more beers or water refills. No beer for you! Seriously - it's pizza! They weren't even very busy. The place is clean enough, nothing special. Good family place. The cheap forks they use were like chewing tin foil and they don't give you a spatula to serve the pie. Just a couple the things that would have made the experience better.

Frank's has really good pizza and they have a very good ambiance; you walk in and you will start salivating because it oozes pizza from the pores of the building. My big gripes with the establishment are that it is a bit overpriced. You can't get free refills on soda, so keep that in mind before you ask for another one..

I can highly recommend the Frank's special...double thinly sliced mushrooms, and double sausage and one extra topping of your choice on their ultra thin crust. AMAZING

It's Great To Be Home! When I return to my hometown, Appleton, my family, friends and I cannot resist Frank's Pizza Palace (formerly Frank & Pat's). The pizza is a greasy, salty, tomato-tangy, mozzarella-clad, pizza masterpiece! I can't get enough of this thin crust pizza. Thankfully you can purchase uncooked pizzas to go, and several of these gems travel back to Milwaukee with me each visit. When I see Frank's Pizza Palace, it just makes me happy! It's a plaster-columned, statuesque fortress that can only be described as an Italian collaboration of architectural bad taste that culminates in that over-the-top typical Italian tribute to the culture itself. The place hasn't changed a bit since I left Appleton in 1987 to move to Brew City. But don't let the decor fool you...whether you appreciate the lovable tacky ambience of Frank's or not, this place is serious about its pizza! Frank's, you are a true icon--and you make a pizza that just can't be replicated. Please, don't ever change a thing!!!

When I was growing up in the Neenah, Wisconsin area, my parents used to take all of us to Frank and Pats Pizza Parlor in Neenah. I can still remember the smokey haze from burning pizzas as we walked into the place. We would always order the Special which had piles of mushrooms on it. Apparently Frank and Pat had a falling out. The restaurant in Neenah is now known as Cranky Pats. We went there first and was told most of the tables were set aside for private parties and it would be about an hour and a half before we would be seated. Disappointed, we decided to go Franks Pizza Parlor in Appleton. It was a crowded Saturday night and the place was loaded with customers as usual. But somehow we managed to find a table fairly quickly and the waiter came promptly. Dining area itself had dark wood paneling and soft lighting. The area was noisy but not unpleasently so. It had a very Wisconsin feel to it. We ordered a large special and a large sausage. It arrived after about 30 minutes and looked pretty good. The cheese and sausage pizza was a bit more substantial than the Cranky Pats version and the special did not appear to have as many mushrooms. After digging in, I would have to say that the pizza here is better than Cranky's. As I said, the cheese and sausage had a little more substance, this translates into a little more flavor. They didn't burn the crap out of the special so you could actually taste all of the ingredients. While Franks is a little different from Cranky's, it tastes better because they have learned to cook the pizza properly. Although I kind of missed the Cranky's flavor, my guests loved this pizza. The ones who I have shared Cranky Pats with generally do not like Crankys. Only negative is the price on the special can be a bit steep for a pizza, about $24.50. I think it's worth every penny.

I found this place on Yelp. I went to Frank's website; it pointed out that they made their own sausage. I couldn't get there soon enough. Frank's is old, greasy and just don't give a f*ck! You come in and are greeted by not decor as much as scattered tables and benches inside a hastily decorated barn converted from a cabin. As beautiful as that reads, you don't notice it; you're backhanded with the toasty and rich tomato sauce scents of smoke billowing outdoors from an old oven. Once in, It covers you like an old school Italian American perfume. I went with two guys. The menu was tiny (always a good sign). It had pizza and a handful of traditional dinners. It also boasted a 60oz pitcher of beer for $7-$8.00 -- it read, "see list" but there was none. We thought it meant that you paid $7.00 if you knew the one beer they carried and $8.00 if you asked to see the list. Two of us ordered the massive Frank's Special. It's double sausage/mushroom with two additional toppings (onions and green peppers, of course). The other guy wanted no part of that, so he order the lasagna. Lasagna guy got the salad bar -- it was unlimited trips to an iceberg lettuce and garlic bread toast bonanza. He was happy because he got to eat first. Then came his vessel of lasagna. The bad boatload was bore a massive cheese crown and filled with tomato sauce and Italian sausage. It that wasn't food porny enough, our pizza came. That bad boy was square-cut with chestful of shrooms and sausage (double portions) with plenty of green peppers and onions scatted about. The grease and the weight of the toppings penetrated the crust, It could not hold up, but it didn't matter. The old oven blessed this pie with the slight charring and the memories of the 56 years of pie baked before it (yeah, they use an old oven and I do not think they changed it in many years). It was massive and dripped all over the damn place, but we finished it. I love that even though they should have made their wilty dough pie-sliced; they have not budged from the square cut ... essentially saying, "Here, you deal with it. Use your hands, use a fork and knife, I see nothing and could care less. I know you like the pizza. If you don't, you're a tasteless idiot." I've had pizza all over the state and in other states. On flavor alone, it rivaled some of the best I've ever had. It you do not like a soggy crust, limit your ingredients.

Franks Pizza Palace is the perfect destination to get away from distractions and enjoy delicious thin crust pizza with the family. The proprietress Jeanie will go to great lengths to ensure that everyone in your party has everything they need to fully enjoy their experience. Perfect down home feel mixed with great eats. Thin crust pizza with the perfect crispness and the right amount of toppings. As far as additional items I highly recommend Jeanie's specially flavored beef. If that wasn't enough you will still leave with enough money in your pockets go to a movie or whatever your heart desires.

Walked in and stood there waiting to be acknowledged. Finally the b**ch painting her nails got up and asked us what we wanted. God forbid you ask a menu related question! The male waiter never got up to do anything and the aforementioned female went right back to painting her nails while we waited. The older guy was great but the wait staff should be fired. I get treated better aanywhere else. The staff ruined it for us we will never return.

This was my post-dance hang-out in middle school. We were dangerously cool. The service isn't always super fast, but I've been there with huge groups of people and I'm always impressed with how patient they are. It's one of those places with a slightly run down and badly lit vibe, which to me adds to the charm. Good and consistent food. Recommended.

The food here is good....every once in a while. 2 pizzas and 2 sodas an easy $50 bill. The pizza is not bad, but it's awful greasy. We also try their roast beef sandwiches, which are also touch and go, not always the greatest but when you get a good one you will deff know! No free refills on fountain soda and the noodle straws are always sketchy, do they even rinse them? The service isn't bad, although when they're slow it seems they're bugging you a bit too much. The decor isn't bad but needs a breath of fresh air .

Over a 3, but not quite a 4. Old school pizzaria. Upon walking in you can smell the delicious pizza that makes your mouth water. They have a "sit where ever you like" attitude. We ordered the "Frank Special" (the one with the double sausage and double mushroom) and that was FANTASTIC!! Our waitress was fantastic and the marinara sauce with garlic bread.....lets just say I could drink it through a straw. But here are my disappointments: Whats up with the garlic bread? A slice of cheese on the side? What? All the staff just kind of seemed, hectic. There was a gentleman sitting near us and he probably had 4 different people serving him, which I found odd. And how about a paint job?! All that brown and not quite yellowish-white color is just a little depressing.

I went to Franks to meet friends before meeting a group later. I waited for someone to seat me, but was ignored. So eventually I found my friends. It took another 15 minutes for the waiter to show up to the table so I could place a drink order. I ordered a glass of diet cola with no free refills. When I asked for a straw the waiter brought out a hollow noodle and placed it on the questionably clean table. I believe straws come wrapped for a reason! I looked at the menu and was disturbed by the pricing. $2.75 for an additional topping? So after 45 minutes we were finally able to place our order. The only reason this review is getting three stars is because the pizza was good, but not sure it is worth over $25.00.

Tonight! Dinner with my husband & brother, couldn't decide at first where to go ~ we were hungry for great pizza, cold beer & a fun atmosphere. All at once, in unison, we said "Let's go to Frank & Pat's!" (now known again as just "Frank's"). Had an awesome & nostalgic night at Frank's Pizza Palace in downtown Appleton. We used to go here after "bartime" a zillion years ago and loved it, and now, all these years later, it's just as good! (better yet maybe!) Fake Italian pillars out front, Italian-y decor inside, fun employees, and the best tasty thin-crust pizza in the world, well in the area anyway! :) Truly an experience ~ smells fabulous just walkin' in the front door! Beer & pizza, what more could you want? Life is good at Frank's!

I'm a lover of thin crust pizza. They have the BEST. I got to taste their beef, which I plan on buying by the pound next time we are in Appleton. The servers are friendly and helpful. The pizza is HOT when it comes to the table, and you can get root beer by the pitcher. I can't wait until our next "pizza fix". Frank's is the place to go. Thanks Jeannie for a wonderful experience. See you soon

We got into town late last night and found out franks was open till 1:30 am so we decided to sit down for a midnight dinner. The pizza was absolutely fantastic. Really crisp, thin crust and super fresh toppings. I read the other reviews and was slightly worried as someone said "greasy", it was definitely NOT greasy. It was some of the best pizza I've ever had and I'm a bit of a pizza snob.

My boyfriend and I have always been at odds about which place has the better pizza , Franks, or Pats? I was biased towards franks because i grew up eating there every weekend, while my boyfriend was neighbors with pat and his family so he'd spend his weekends eating pizza out of Pat's kitchen. This proved to be quite a conundrum until the past couple years when we tried Pat's and were pretty disappointed with the quality- it seemed like it went downhill on consistency. Franks has always been consistent we ate there around Christmas when we came to visit and it was outstanding as always. So the winner of the pizza battle is Franks. Better sauce, better crust. One thing you appleton people need to know is how lucky you are! Franks and stucs. We live in Chicago- the capital city of pizza and have not found a single place to capture our hearts the way Appleton Pizzerias have.

This is the best pizza in the universe and I miss it every day. We went here for dinner before prom, ten thousand years ago, and they gave us free garlic bread and drinks. We went here for every post-soccer-game celebration (or consolation party); we went here after plays and concerts and for birthdays and pretty much on any occasion when delicious pizza was required. Everybody I've taken here as an adult - friends, family members, my boyfriend - has also loved it, because if you don't love it than you are a pizza-hater and therefore I would not be your friend. They have the best pizza sauce, the crust is perfectly crispy, the cheese is not too stretchy. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. I want a pizza.

Best pizza in town- by far. Crispy thin crust, original, unique Italian setting. Service is good and pizza is always hot. A local favorite for sure!
