There are certain indisputable truths in life: - Toast will always fall jam side down. - Shakespeare would hate emo poems. - Jenny C can't cook. My few forays into the culinary world have typically resulted in smoking to burning, flourless-when-flour-is-required concoctions. Yet I never seem to learn, and continue to utter disturbing things like "Yeah! Of course I can make homemade Matzo Ball Soup." But the sister, knowing how to stop the madness, grabs her keys in one hand and the back of my flame retardant apron in the other and drags me out to Rose's. They've got the Matzo Ball recipe down pat and are ready to dish up piping hot bowl at a moment's notice (and a sandwich to go along with it too.) But as many already know, you go to Rose's for a few things (Soup and Rubens). The rest of the menu is just fluff for the ignorant. Service at this branch is slow to get going, but then lighting fast. While we had to wait a while to get seated and get drinks, once our orders were placed we had meals on the table in what seemed like moments. Everyone seemed really cordial and attentive without hovering. So Sis and I enjoyed our sandwiches, a french dip for me and grilled cheese for her. Coupled with fries and waters we were out of there after an $18.00 tab. This makes overall prices reasonable, where cheaper entrees are offset by more expensive sandwich options. If you can make it out without ordering dessert, then kudos. Huge cakes and cookies and other sweet treats & espresso are there to tempt you as you walk in and out. Since opening in PDX in 1956 Rose's has become a local institution. Considered "The Unusual for Fine Food and Pastries" you've got to give them credit for sticking to their guns. For "grandma style" comfort food that won't break the bank or waste your time, this is your spot... you can't dispute (or burn) that.

Meatloaf sandwich shared Black Forest cake. The cake was not fresh and tasted like the inside of a refrigerator. Happy hour chicken fingers and salad were just OK. The meatloaf sandwich tasted good but the menu described it as 1/2 pound and there was not even 1/4 pound. The bread was fresh, the lettuce and tomato was good but the meatloaf was more loaf than meat. Sorry, but that's the way it was. I was surprised to see how empty this place was (but I figured it was because it was a Tuesday night) but I think that the food has gone a little downhill over the past few years. Frankly, there never would have been a time when they would have served a stale dessert or at least the server would have made sure. Also, the cakes and other baked goods were not of the usual high quality and large stature that they used to be. Now that I have seen several of these outlets close, I am wondering how much longer this one can survive. With some of the newer eateries on 192nd, this one just might not last unless whomever owns/manages it takes notice that your reviews have slipped a bit and I am not super likely to come back as often as I used to. Frankly when the original Roses on 122nd and Glisan was open, it was way better, the food was considerably higher quality and without a doubt, it was always fresh.

My Mom loves this place. The food is alright, the dessert is fantastic! Have not been disappointed by any dessert items we've ever tried out. Good little spot in Vancouver that isn't part of a huge chain (Denny's, Shari's, IHOP)

This food? Was GOOD. I mean, my fiancee and I were somewhat taken aback about how good this food was. First & foremost, Rose's had a really nice look to it. We walked inside and really liked the atmosphere. There was a great deal of attractive color, a little bit of retro (a Rose's blinky sign) & very nice waitresses / waiters to help seat you. I had a turkey burger and my fiancee had a chicken sandwich. The price was definitely nice for both entrees; you get great portions for not a whole lot of money. We also then tried the raspberry poppyseed cake which was OUTSTANDING. That was the first time we'd been to Rose's. I actually had gone to the previous downtown Vancouver location many years ago (according to my Mom...) but I don't really remember doing so. But we're definitely going back for seconds - very much recommend checking this out for a great lunch / dinner. Also - we were looking over the menu and couldn't decide what we wanted; there was too much that we wanted. There are a lot of choices on there...

Once upon a time I would have given Rose's four maybe even five stars, but I have found that the quality of the food and in particular their desserts are not as good as they used to be. During my last visit I found out why: they have changed bakeries from where they get their desserts according to the server. I still like a few of their entrees: the fish and chips, french dip and their salads. It's still pretty good food, just not as good as it used to be. I'm sorry to say.

My family will never go back to Rose's. Had a long blonde hair in the cheese cake we ordered....that experience still gives me a chill.....after my husband had a couple of bites of the cake, he felt a slight tag on the fork.....so he started to dig into the cake and pulled out a long piece of blonde hair over 1 foot long!!!! He was so upset that his face turned all red. Talked to the waitress and she only apologized me so I had to ask for the manager..... the manager was the same way...she said she was sorry, took a cake away and offered us another cake..of course we did not want another cake so she took a charge only off on the cheesecake....that is it!! I took the manager's response as a piece of hair is not a big deal for the Rose's....I do not think we can ever eat their food again.

We (husband, family, friends, myself) really like this place. It is good for a quick meal, family dinner or happy hour! We stopped by yesterday for a light afternoon lunch seeing as we knew we were having a heavy dinner. They let us split the club sandwhich and didn't even charge us the typical "sharing" fee that many places do. I will admit I'd heard from Sabrina H. that they were giving away free pie that day...but maybe our 2pm arrival was too late. None the less, everything was good and we had our food within 5 minutes! We'll be back!

While Kornblatt's will always be my first and foremost favorite Jewish Deli in the Portland area, Rose's is always nipping at their heels for first place. The food is always very good, generous in portions and served quickly. The service is very friendly and accomodating and the staff know their menu well. I only wish Rose's PDX location was a 1/10th as good as the in town locations.

Another find thank you to, Yelp. I was really happy to find a place to eat after about 2 hours of driving with nothing but little gas stations and mom and pop stores around us. I found Rose's on Yelp with my Blackberry. How nice, right? As we approach, it looks more like a department store than a bakery, but don't let that fool you. Their menu is fresh, homey, and versatile. Very classic american dishes for the most part. I gotta give them props for their decadent hot and cold sandwiches that are pretty gourmet. They don't do too much to their food, BUT they make sure the ingredients for what they make are the best, which really can take simple dishes to a whole different world. I tried out the Matzo ball soup. I've never had it, but it was really good! I would recommend it. Nice flavorful broth, soft bread. Mhmm Good. I also had the cranberry walnut salad. It was fresh and right on in terms of flavor. The chicken could have been cooked a tad less, it needed to be a little more tender for a dish like this. Instead of doing a breast, I would have done a rotisserie chicken or something like that. Something succulent and juicy. The atmosphere was cute. Very family oriented. Fun, colorful. All in all, this is a great place to stop if you're passing through Vancouver, or if you live in this little town it should be a regular stop. They also had a bakery with quite the selection of gourmet desserts really solidified my 5th star. Good food and an awesome bakery? Ok... I'm in. Good is Eats are everywhere, even in your neck of the woods... Vancouver.

This chain spot does what it is supposed to do - provide large portions of food at reasonable prices to the masses. I knew what to expect, and I got it. The food was good, but nothing spectacular (but have you found an all-American chain that you can say otherwise about?). The only thing that would probably get me back in the door is to check out the dessert case. Since we went for breakfast... and I ordered French Toast... it seemed a bit gluttonous to order dessert too. So, I'll have to return for some coconut cake. Other than that, if your only options are chains, you could definitely do worse than Rose's... but if you have any opportunity to go to a local place with some character, I'd definitely do that!

Really poor service on so many levels, although there were plenty of staff. Maybe having a booth on the bakery side of the room is hard for staff to see, but it took 10 mins just to be able to ask for a desert menu instead of a dinner menu. A server said, sure, but then never came back. Finally we flagged another person who brought menus. But then after 15 mins waiting, we were forced to wave like annoying Americans in a French bistro, to get them to take our order. Instead of bringing all the drinks for the table at once, 2 of 3 got their coffee while the 3rd person had to wait for sparkling water. Then 2 deserts were brought out with a big lag until the 3rd person got their serving. All came from the same pastry case. Getting a box for left overs, getting the bill, all difficult. Desert was delicious, but came away feeling stressed as if we were the ones having to do all the work.

Great Ruben Sandwich. Good egg white omelet. So few places offer this. Wish they had regular hash browns for breakfast. Nice atmosphere. Usually a breakfast wait on the weekends.

We went for lunch the other day (Saturday). The place was about half full. We were seated promptly, and our order was taken - appetizer sampler, two sandwiches. I had a sandwich called the Dagwood (it was on the specials menu) and asked that the pickles be left on the side. My boyfriend had some sort of Reuben, and he asked that the kraut be left off, and slaw put in it's place. We were told it'd be no problem. The appetizer plate was pretty sad. Dried out potato skins, cheese sticks from a frozen bag, and the saddest little chicken strips you've ever seen (seriously, these things were smaller than my fingers). When the sandwiches came, both orders were wrong. Mine had the pickles on it, but I picked them off, no big deal. His had kraut all over it, and no slaw - and had the wrong side, as well. We flagged down the hostess, as no one else was around. She sent the manager over, who said someone had grabbed the wrong plate, and brought another wrong sandwich to him - still had kraut, still had the wrong side. We flagged her down again, explained what he'd ordered, and this time she brought the right sandwich, but STILL the wrong side. She then just brought an extra serving of the correct side. She apologized, and said something about the ticket not reflecting what we ordered (as if it was our fault). No one came back to check for about 10 minutes, at which we asked for the check. I thought for sure there'd be a comp after all the trouble we had, but no. We paid and left, and of the 5 staff we passed on the way out (including our server and the manager), only a different server thanked us for coming in. We won't be back.

Eh - that's pretty much what I think of the food. The service was ok - my glass sat empty for a few minutes before she asked what I was drinking. I definitely won't go out of my way to visit this place again.

We had breakfast and it was pretty mediocre. I had the Chipotle polenta eggs benedict and my husband had the huevos rancheros. Both were lacking flavor and nothing special. Positives- coffee was strong and service was good.

I very seldom do reviews of any sort. However - I so liked Rosie's that it really deserves a review. I give it 5 as I have been there 3 time in last 2 months and it is simply excellent. Great - service, food and service in all regards. I eat out fairly often in East side of Vancouver and this is as about as good as of as it gets fr an enjoyable meal I all regards.

I have to admit that haven't been back since my terrible experience and reading the same of others. Update: eventually I did heard from new owner with a lukewarm apology, blaming the staff. Invited the family to return, but never offered to reimburse for the bad and/or missing food, or an offer to make a return trip enticing. A sign of indifferent management. Every time I get the urge to go back, I look at all the other reviews of patrons that had similar bad experiences. That should tell other patrons beware, my experience was not a fluke. Beware! Overpriced, poor service, indifferent owners. Spend your money somewhere where they will appreciate your business!

Let's start with the lack of an affordable option for lunch. 15 dollars for lunch when I have a sandwich with fries and a water is out of my league. The pastrami fries sounded incredible but lacked flavor and seemed thrown together. The cheese steak sandwich was along the same lines. The bread was good but the rest of the ingredients were nothing special. Actually, in retrospect one of the worst cheesesteak sandwiches I've ever had. This is not the Roses I remember from 20 years ago. The waitress didn't even ask how my meal was, I left more than half on my plate.

Roses has become our go to "I want dessert, but done wanna make it" place. Most of the cakes are the same insides, so more diversity would be nice. But I have never been disappointed by the flavors. Also been here a few times for breakfast. Just your average dinner selection, but better then Sharie's and Denny's.

I will NEVER eat here again. Not only is the food unbearably disgusting, the service deserves negative stars. I understand that Rose's used to be a good, home style establishment, but after the new pompous, egotistical, racist owner took over, things clearly took a turn for the worst. I decided to try Rose's about 3 days ago, my server's name was Randy (I think he was also the manager). I ordered the Matzo ball soup and a sandwich. First, I specifically asked for my soup first and didn't end up getting it until after my meal. The soup was oily and overly salty, and I could have gone to McDonalds and gotten a better quality sandwich. When I complained he had no remorse and blamed it on the girl he was training. After speaking with him, I saw him walk over to her and begin yelling at her right in front of me, she had told me it was her first day. The place smells of old basement, and the kitchen looks like its rotting from the inside out. I refuse to ever step foot back in this place. After reading the other reviews, I see I am not the only one with these feelings. If you value your health and hygiene, don't eat here!

Poor Rose's! Whatever has happened to it!? I took three friends for supper in early March and we had an absolutely horrific dinner...think the worst school cafeteria fodder ever and double it....rubbery broccoli, carrot slices somehow made tough and curled, an eggplant parmesan which was simply tough slices of eggplant with provolone melted over it and a dab of bottled red sauce. Every plate was left half full as my guests politely chose not to eat. I would open a can of spam and a box of crackers to serve guests before I would return.

Decided to go here for brunch after the Fort Vancouver run this morning. I've been twice, once for lunch in the bar and once to get dessert to go. Both times were decent; nothing overly exciting, but good just the same. Today was sadly a completely different experience. I was the first out of 6 to arrive and I was seated promptly. I ordered coffee, which took about 10 minutes to get. The server never brought water or asked if I wanted any. My party arrives and we order, which should be fairly basic. Four of us got the bloody mary bar, one of the orders was a "virgin." That was fine, the vodka came promptly. Our food took quite some time to receive. One of the ladies in my party even commented on how a few of the tables had already turned over, with parties leaving and new parties arriving BEFORE we received our food. My order came and it was correct, although the plate that my bacon and eggs were on was extremely hot, with no warning from the server. Still no water. And no coffee refill. One of the ladies in my party ordered the egg white omelet, with bacon and hash browns. 45 minutes later we barely had our food and she still didn't have hers. The server comes out and says that they can't make an egg white omelet. Excuse me? It's on the menu AND you just crack a few eggs and separate the whites from the yolks. This isn't difficult. However, it didn't really surprise me because I overheard the server telling another table that they were out of the garden burger AND the salmon. Plus, why would you wait for 45 minutes to tell us this???!!!! So they made an omelet however her order was still wrong. She asked for bacon and got turkey and asked for hash browns and got fruit. This whole time the waitstaff seemed unfazed; as if they could care less about customer service OR customer loyalty. Still no water, even after we asked for a round. A "ROUND" is for the whole table. 6 people. We received THREE waters. I got up to get three more and ask for the manager's name and another server was so snotty that I should've asked for her name too. Still no water. We finally had to ask the hostess and she comes over with the pitcher. Which would be great if we had GLASSES!!! I didn't realize water was so hard to come by. I've never been so dismayed and frustrated with service before in my life. I work too hard to spend money on mediocre food and sub-par service. The manager wasn't even available because he doesn't work on Sunday. Maybe he should. If he was there, we would've at least gotten our water more quickly. I'll definitely be calling him tomorrow.

Sad Salads. Three of us ordered shrimp avocado salads, $11 each. I have been dieting and weigh out much of my food. This was no more than 1 1/2 Oz salad shrimp, 1/3 of an avocado , bottled dressing, and very tough outer part of a very large romaine that was tough. Did not bother commenting. It was a joke. Decent pour of house red wine, and the waitress was very nice, really tried. The kitchen has no clue.

Love this place! There are new owners and they are very friendly and make you feel very welcome. The breakfast we had a great and the Bloody Mary Bar is a lot of fun! and only $5. This is also a great place to order a lunch box to go on your way to the gorge for some hiking or boarding or trail running, etc.... I have done this many times. I highly recommend this place!

To be honest I have only had fries & almost ever kind of their cake they make at this location. However, I have like at least 5 friends on Facebook always checking-in here & they always give amazing reviews on the food pics they post. And I at other locations I have ordered an entree, me & my tummy has always enjoyed it. I only have came here for lunch with friends. Always have ordered a side of fries with a slice of cake. Then another 2 -3 pieces of cake to go (I know, so healthy, right) My friends & I have always gotten excellent service here, the staff has always been super nice & friendly. A great spot to catch up with friends!

I love the happy hour menu here. Lots of variety and it's well proportioned for happy hour prices. Also if you love hot sandwiches this place has the best in town!!! Every sandwich comes stacked with meat. I love this place for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The friendly service put this place near the top in Vancouver.

Ugh where to start. A few months back, right after they transitioned owners, I called in a salad order to go. They say 15 minutes. I come over 20 minutes later and no lunch. The person who took the order forgot to turn it into the kitchen. Okay, honest mistake, but I used over half my lunch break waiting for my meal. Came back a few weeks later with my dad for lunch and it took us over 45 minutes to get our food. We ordered easy too - a cold sandwich and a salad. The waitress was very scrambled and kept saying that they "went to a new system" and the "kitchens very confused". At that point I decided to write them off. Fast forward to today, husband and I decide to grab lunch, Rose's is close so fine, I will try it again. I order a salad, my husband orders a sandwich (The Royal with pastrami and egg salad on rye) and potato salad. The waiter brings out the food, and it's a regular pastrami and kraut sandwich with fries. I call the waiters attention to the fact that it's the wrong sandwich, and he told me that we ordered The Supreme with fries. Um, no we didn't. Royal and Supreme don't even sound alike. So I repeated our order and about 15 mintues later they bring the Royal with Fries. Okay, attempt 2 at a simple sandwich and potato salad. So I tell him again - - we didn't order fries we wanted potato salad. So he walks off and comes back a minute later with the potato salad. So I've written them off for good now. Their staff always seems way too busy and scrambling to keep up, even when there's only a few patrons. Since new ownership there hasn't been one time I've stopped in and our order was completely right and timely. They need to get it together.

Sadly, this place has all the ingredients for a fine restaurant experience except for the people running it themselves. To make a place successful, you need competent, experienced, knowledgeable wait/kitchen staff who actually share a care and passion for the product. Although started off in that manner back in the 1950's, this Rose's Restaurant falls short of what should be the norm. Very slow service, novice-type wait staff, and bad food quality. Also, the owner was talking non stop to his friends about placing bets/gambling which is in poor taste! Furthermore, how do you really mess up a classic sandwich like a Reuben (spelled Ruben on some menus!)?! And a good matzo ball soup seems like it's been sitting all day. Also, a breakfast "scramble" means it's all scrambled TOGETHER. Although my fave place for years, I will probably not set foot in here again after my $8 slice of cake tasted like refrigerator.

Well I emailed the manager just to inform them of our experience since I doubt the servers pass that kind of thing on. That was eleven days ago and not even an acknowledgement response. I wasn't even wanting anything out of it, just letting them know. Nothing...

  • Janet S.

Wish I could give them less than 1 star. I decided to give them another chance because I really wanted some matzo ball soup. I checked their website and it says that they are open until 9:00pm on Sundays. Yelp says they are open right now. Except I just drove over there and THEY ARE CLOSED (and it's not even 7:00). I guess that's what I get for trying them again after saying I'd never set foot in there.

I used to like Rose's for breakfast. Now it seems that they bring in too many pre-prepped and frozen food. The place was DEAD on a Saturday morning. They have a crazy blinking light thing on the inside that fits better in Vegas than here (even though half of it was burnt out). It was really distracting. The place needs to be updated - desperately. The only redeeming factor was the fantastic Bloody Mary bar. Seriously, one of the best around.

The original Rose's in Portland is no longer in business but their legacy lives on with their franchise in Vancouver. Under new ownership, this eatery succeeds in recapturing the magic that made Rose's a permanent part of our restaurant culture. They still feature their classic Ruben. They still bake world-class cinnamon rolls. Their mile-high cakes remain legendary. My girlfriend had a chicken salad sandwich and professed it was "heavenly." There was a time when bakeries like Rose's dotted our landscape. I hope their success confirms the resurgence of full-service dining experiences. At Rose's, eating out is an event.

One of the worst bakeries I have ever been to. Frostings were some kind of cream concoction with flavoring. Eclair had no flavor as did the rum ball. No real butter or quality ingredients used in baked goods. We ended up throwing all the pastries out. I dont know how this place has high ratings. I am a baker and if I had to do an article on this place...it would never print

Went there for lunch on Sunday March 1st and this was the second time we tried this place. Service was terrible, drinks took 15 minutes, food took 40 minutes with our server avoiding the table. We almost walked out by the time the food arrived and now I wish we had, Sandwich was hard as a rock and the benedict my husband had was not very good. Server did not offer us anything and ran to the table after we left to make sure we paid. What?!? How hard is it to screw up a Rueben!! Never going back and making sure everyone we talk to stays away.

Very reluctant to give Roses even 1 star they don't deserve. We went to Roses on March 1st, my birthday, big mistake. They were busy, but we waited the few minutes for them to clear a table. After we were seated for a few minutes the waitress took our drink orders, a diet Coke and a fresh squeezed orange juice. Only after ordering the orange juice.and soda did I see the prices on their menu, $2.49 for the soda and $2.49 for the juice. The soda and juice arrived at the table a few minutes later, small glasses but maybe there would be refills. I ordered eggs over medium, hashbrowns, chicken fried steak and sourdough toast, we also ordered the ham and cheese omelet and more toast. The food took 25 minutes to be served during which time our waitress came to our table three different times to apologize for the delay. After our food was served there was no other contact with the wait staff except to bring us the bill, a little over $27, including the $4.98 for the two drinks that were never refilled, not even an offer to refill them. As for the food, the chicken fried steak was luke warm, tough and tasted like rancid oil, the hashbrowns were cold and tasted very bland, no flavor at all, the eggs were over cooked and also cold, the toast was not toasted, just sourdough bread with butter on the side. The ham and cheese omelet was also cold, the cheese on top was greasy and the ham chunks also tasted like rancid oil, as well as the toast also not being toasted. As for the fresh squeezed orange juice, it looked and tasted like juice from a jug, definately not fresh squeezed. The prices for the entrees were fair but I definitely feel the drink prices with no refills were outrageous. I did not eat the chicken fried steak, salted the eggs and hashbrowns heavily to add some flavor just to make them palatable, did not eat much of the omelet, and none of the so called toast. I thought the waitress might ask why we ate so little when she brought the check, DID NOT HAPPEN, she just left to bring us change from our bill and the customer comment card I asked for. In fairness to the waitress and the single cook I could see at the cooking area, the place was full. I was surprised at how many wait staff were moving around and only 1 cook and a helper that did not appear to be doing any of the cooking. More importantly, I blame the manager and owners of this establishment for not doing their jobs, including training of their staff, having enough cook staff on duty to get the food out hot and in a timely manner, as well as the quality and taste of the food. Without good management and owners this is the result, a completely unsatisfactory dining expirience for their customers. One final comment, I stopped to use the bathroom before leaving, it looked as if it had not been cleaned thoroughly for quite some time, stains on the walls and stall dividers, stainless fixtures stained and dirty, mold and disgusting crap under the toilet seat when I lifted it to pee. I should've gone to the bathroom when I first walked in, I would have probably walked right back out and went somewhere else, I wonder what the rest of the hidden areas of this business look like? A clean bathroom usually indicates that the business cares about its appearance, as well as the quality of its food and service. Shame on you for this dining experience, I WILL NOT REPEAT MY MISTAKE OF EATING HERE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!! Should have read the YELP reviews first. 47 of 69 reviews of 3 stars or less, 22 of them 1 star reviews, not very good. It was my birthday yesterday and did not feel like complaining, however I have not forgotten what happened. I am going to stop and ask for a refund, we'll see what happens when I ask. 10:15 AM, I went to Roses and found Sarah the waitress from yesterday. When I asked for the manager she told me he was gone to the store. I then told her of my dissatisfaction with the breakfast yesterday and that I would like a refund. Sarah immediately told me she did not think the.manager would mind and returned $28.00 to me. SARAH WAS VERY POLITE AND APOLOGISED FOR THE MEAL. I am adding 1 more star to the review for her sincerity and friendly response.

If all I had to do was walk in and eat this place would get three stars. The food is decent and the staff is friendly enough, but the actual service is horrible. They are always under-staffed. As someone who has waited tables in a high volume restaurant they are needlessly in the weeds. Not only did we wait for a ridiculously long time for our drinks, we had to ask the hostess for them...and then again for silverware and a napkin. While prepping my long awaited coffee for consumption I pulled a sugar packet out and realized it had gum stuck to it. This is our second time here with the same results. We won't be back.

Eh.... It's Sysco food almost exclusively prepared about as bland as it gets. I had the Backyard BBQ burger and salad. Don't know why they even ask what temperature I wanted on the Sysco meat. Price is way too high. Can go to places in Portland that serve local organic meats and veggies for same price. The service was nice so two stars there. Interior is just silly. The purple painted grid is just strange. Rest of the decor matches. Looks like my grandma and the joker picked the colors for the space. There is a great exterior to the building. Not that it matters, I just wanted to say something nice. I would not recommend this to anyone I like. I will not be going back.

Went for breakfast and it was nothing special. Why can't I find just the basic breakfast, 2 eggs, bacon, hash browns, and toast? Oh wait...that's because it's not on their menu. What? What? Now that's bizarre. Probably won't go back.

Went for lunch. Service was terrible. Got seated and then nothing. No one even came to the table or acknowledged us at all. After ten minutes we decided to leave. Ended up at red robin and the service was excellent. We will never go back to roses!! You lose!!

What happened to this place? It had been some time since we had been here and boy things have changed. Food was so-so at best, table was filthy and sticky when we sat down, waitresses talked among the self more then helping customers. Sorry to say I won't be retuning...

Was looking forward to some Italian food. A friend (local) brought me here for a casual dinner. She raved about the sandwiches. I didn't order a sandwich, but should have. My chicken piccata was dry. I expected thin slices of meat and instead got 2 thick pieces of tasteless chicken breast. Forgot what she ordered but she enjoyed it. Had a slice the Orange Dreamsicle cake because I had visions of the Orange Creamsicles we ate as kids. The cake was disappointing. Not much orange flavor and a little on the dry side. The apple dessert with ice cream was very good. Stick with the sandwiches.

I have gone twice for dinner. Both times I was pleasantly surprised. Decent portions at an affordable price. I think that the hot entrees need to be served a bit warmer as they got cold quickly. I had a salad dish the second time I went and it was very good. Roses is definitely not up to an east coast diner/deli, but it is the closest I have been to anywhere in the area, including some well known deli's in Portland. A few tweaks and this place could rock.

We picked up our 3 Ruben's to-go and all 3 were made on the wrong bread, not the dark rye we had requested. Also, our sandwiches were soggy even though it had been just 20 minutes from the time i picked up the phone and placed my order to the time we sat down and ate. We have been to other Roses's locations without issue, it was just this one that needs to get it together!

Never even thought of the combination before I saw it on the menu - pastrami mac and cheese. That was just what I needed for a cool fall day. Creamy and luscious with a little bit of crunch from the bagel crostini, perfect. Stared at the desserts for a while but opted not. There didn't look to be anything that would weather a couple hours in the car well. It did seem that there were some new options though. I've been going to Rose's since I was a kid and nothing will ever compare to the original bakery line up, but somebody's looking to be putting in some effort to try.

Lesson learned!!!! I would've thought with the name of roses delicatessen and the fact that they have five different Reuben sandwiches that their corn beef hash would've been good, wrong..... it was sliced ( lunch meat) corned beef hash it wasn't corned beef brisket, Really? I was actually excited to go to this place because it was under new management /owners and the hopes that the new manager / owner would bring this restaurant back out of the hole that it had gone into, it's sad when a person buys a restaurant and continues to carry on with the old ways of the old owner instead of improving and doing things the right way Come on, have pride in your Jewish roots. I would've been embarrassed to have served that to a customer. if you want to know what I'm talking about go to Kenny and zukes or kornBlatz and try their corned beef, they know how to make it. He'll even biscuits Café makes a better corned beef hash. Now with that being said, not all was bad just most of it. The two poached eggs that came with my meal or cooked perfectly. One would think that with all the gorgeous baked treats that they have in their case they make their own biscuits? well as one other review said it's all freezer food it's all from Sisco they don't make their own biscuits. my parents who were with me and split a Reuben (corned beef) sandwich they thought it was good, the problem is they have no taste buds left and everything is good for them. My daughter got The soup and sandwich combo, she ordered a roast beef sandwich and wound up with a grilled cheese sandwich, The chicken noodle soup had so much cornstarch in it that it was gelatinous mess and she did not want to eat it. My wife ordered the Cobb salad which now comes with grilled chicken instead of turkey pastrami and she said it was a passable for food. . This may sound like I am a real Adam Henry in my review but I'm tired of the corporate style restaurants with their freezer food and I've had enough, so unfortunately roses delicatessen is not on my list to visit again. Btw if you want to lesson on how to do corned beef hash look me up sometime.

Great sandwiches and delicious cakes/pastries. Everything else I have tried here is just OK. Food suggestion: Reuben sandwich

We tried the Fitness Scramble and Garden Scramble... Both scrambles were tasty with healthy portions but the potatoes hold the otherwise great scrambles back. The potatoes that morning were cooked but almost crispy and although you could see some reddish seasoning on the potatoes it lacked flavor :( Next time there I really need to remember to leave room so I can try some of the desserts that I've heard really good things about. It'd also be nice if the menu gave you an idea of where their ingrediants are from. All things equal I will choose dishes that are in season and/or sourced locally/regionally.

Great food...poor service. We tried the club sandwich, chicken salad sandwich, and the backyard burger. All were excellent. Service issues: begged for water refills, waitress asked if we wanted dessert when we were only 2/3 into our meal, she tried to clear two of our plates before we were finished; had to physically grab our plates back, and our check was presented before we were done eating. Ill go again. Will just hope for a different waitress.

We've eaten here a few times, but after today's visit, it will be a long time before we return, IF ever! From our first contact with our "waitress" to our exit, the experience was dismal. First, our waitress had no clue about what juices they have, then she must have gotten lost coming back. She did spend a lot of time doing nothing, while standing with the cashier/bus boy. Maybe they have a thing? When we caught her attention and ask about juice, she suggested "apple" and brought out a jug with about an inch of liquid in it & asked if we still wanted it. Ugh! Then my order of "beer battered fish & chips" was clearly anything but! I'm guessing breaded or panko, but the 1/4 inch thin pieces of fish were very unappealing, dry and over-cooked. The "chips" were soggy & unappetizing. When I ordered it, the waitress asked if I wanted the cole slaw with it, I asked for my choices & she said there isn't another choice, but she could take it off the plate, but the charge would be the same. Hubby had to ask if there was potato salad or something to put in its place, & she grudgingly agreed. The restaurant had only a handful of guests, with 2 waitresses, a cashier/bus boy & the kitchen staff...yet everyone that had the "other" waitress had drinks & food long before us, even the ones that came in after us. Who would think that a couple of glasses of juice, an order of fish & chips & a half sandwich with a salad could be so difficult. Warning to the "new owner"...you really should look into training your staff, getting some pleasant folks to work and making sure the menu descriptions match what the chef can do...or just do us all a favor & close up!

Server Kirsty... she was great! We started off with some 14 Hands red wine Hot to trot and chicken noodle soup. I had the pulled pork quesadilla, and my husband had the pot roast. Both so very yummy. I actually enjoyed the quesadilla better than in sandwich form. Haha. For dessert we had the espresso cake which was to DIE for. So moist and not too chocolatey. Definitely going back here since they have such a wide variety of sweets. I'm glad my husband introduced me to this place.

I'm all about this place as a last minute choice. It's that "Oh, I forgot about Rose's" place you come to only when driving past and remember what a great place it is. I've eaten at both the closed location attached to the Cinema 12, the one on 23rd and now here, where I stopped for a "I need chocolate now!" excursion with a friend. We came in solely for dessert and enjoyed spending the first 10 minutes drooling over the selections in the front case before putting our orders in. I chose the French Silk Chocolate cake, a rarety for me because I generally hate cake but was satiating a random craving for it, and it was very good. It was extremely smooth, and took care of my chocolate cake craving nicely. By the end of dessert I was eating the cake portion out from between the layers of chocolate ganache because it was so rich; I even ordered a glass of milk to go with it which is something I probably haven't done since I was 9. My friend ordered the Tiramisu which is a very different take on the classic, much more like a Tiramisu flavored cake. It was a sponge cake soaked in grappa and espresso, filled with mascarpone cheese, with a touch of brandy, cocoa and whip cream. She said it was ok, but wasn't sold on it overall. Although the description sounds amazing, I have to agree with her that it kind of looked like a letdown. This will definitely be in my ranking the next time I need a bit of dessert.

Don't waste your money and appetite here!!! We went to Roses on 5/31/2013 and it will be my very last visit. The service was terrible and the food was bland. We had the French Dip, California Chicken Burger, Mozza Ball soup, Orange float and Scooby Do cocktail. The waiter didn't know what a Scooby Do was and had to ask another waiter to make it. It arrived 15 minutes after our entree arrived. The waiters had no idea how to make it. We watched them scramble around trying to figure the recipe. In the end, the drink tasted like ice and had no alcohol. We told the waiter it was terrible and he did NOT offer to remove the drink. It was late and tasted terrible. Let's go back to the entree, the French dip was very bland and dry. The au jous had no flavor and the beef was extremely dry. It felt like eating beef jerky. My California Chicken burger was bland and the chicken was very rubbery. All the meat was over cooked. My Mozza ball soup was okay. I am disappointed by the poor service and awful food. It appears quality is not important here. I don't recommend this place.

The best French Dip Sandwich I've ever had. I've been coming here for years, whenever I'm in town to visit family in the Portland metro. I started with the French Dip and have never ordered anything else. The service at times can be a bit spotty at this location, but the kitchen staff is ON their game all the time. Sides are the standard fries, but they also have potato salad and some soups. I stick with the fries and have never been disappointed. The desserts at Rose's are also extremely good. Orange Dream cake is my particular favorite, although I've had the Chocolate cake and it was good as well. They do take-out as well, and it was very good when I've ordered that way. All in all, don't miss Rose's when you're in Portland. This particular one is my absolute favorite, and must visit whenever I'm in town.

Went to Rose's last night. Bad choice. Food was just ok. I got the open faced turkey sandwich, I guess, maybe my fault. I should have read that it wasn't your traditional sandwish. It was potatoes and gravy on a roll and their deli turkey (what was I thinking) piled on top. It was not good. Then we ordered dessert to go. I have had the coconut dream cake before, but last night it was not even a full slice. Most of it looked like it fell off. The slices were NOT worth $7-$8 a piece. I don't think I'm going back there. I remember Rose's at her best...unfortunately that was years ago and in the Portland store. Don't waste your money.

After somewhat giving up on Rose's after a few so-so visits (we live close by) we tried it again on 2/23/2013 at lunch time. After waiting ~nine minutes just to be greeted at the check-in/hostess podium (I only started checking the clock *after* I became annoyed, so the actual time was longer) we were finally seated by a fellow that was busy bussing tables. At this point I started tracking time- if only to keep myself honest that things were indeed taking as long as it felt like. Nine more minutes went by before the very nice, but clearly over-extended, waitress came by to take our drink order. Eleven minutes later we got our drinks (water and a Diet Coke). Two hamburgers were another 27 minutes to arrive. After we finished eating, it took 15 minutes to get a desert to go and pay our bill. All in all over an hour and a half for a burger lunch... The vast majority of that time spent waiting. (I thought I was in a McMenamin's for a while there!) The group that came in after we did had the right idea. They simply left after being seated and not receiving any service. While the floor wasn't exactly *empty*, nor was it crowded. I'd estimate 70% full with very few turns at the tables. As best I can tell there were TWO waitresses for the entire restaurant+bar area, plus one more that I presume was also the supervisor-- she worked the counter/coffee/desert case. Our waitress was very sweet, but the profuse apologies just underlined the fact that even they knew things were really, really taking too long. The food was fine. My 'medium well' burger came out well done, but my wife really liked her grilled chicken burger-thing. We got a "tiramisu" dessert to go, which was really more aptly described as a cake with some tiramisu-like flavors. It was tasty though. All in all, with a lot more dining options available in East Vancouver in recent years I probably won't be back any time soon. Brother's and Roots have similar lunch prices and much better service. I'd probably even roll the dice with McMenamin's off 162nd before trying Rose's again.

Nice clean Diner like atmosphere. Full Bar, a good wine list and micro brews on tap. Good choices on the children's menu all for 4.99. I got the pastrami dip off of the big kids menu and it was fantastic. Our server was top notch. She showed up at the right time and left us alone during the rest of the time. This is my second time at Rose's and I know we will be back.

I rarely order rueben sandwiches unless it's from a delicatessen like Rose's. My rueben "Up Towner" with corn beef and pastrami was delicious, but unfortunately this is all I can say nice about this location. Our server does not like his job nor was he polite to our table. Every aspect of our service was slow. Drink refills were difficult to come by. I over heard another customer ask a female employee what the red velvet cake was like and she said it was a red cake. It was a pathetic answer so I couldn't help myself and leaned over to mention it was a lightly flavored chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting. I left feeling bad for the owners because they probably don't know how bad the service is killing repeat customers.

This was my second visit to this Rose's as I had a craving for a hot pastrami sandwich on a cold rainy evening. This time I saved room for dessert! I tried the 'dip' version even though I had no intention of using the au jus served with it. I just wanted the cheese and grilled onions that came with it instead of the other pastrami sandwich which I had tried before. That was a bit of a mistake as the bread was soft and gummy. The pastrami was as great as ever, thinly sliced and piled high-just like I like it. I had thought about asking to sub the bread when I ordered, but didn't follow through-my bad! I will go back to the other version with toasted bread and add on the cheese and grilled onions the next time I'm here. Service was good. Greeted promptly at the door, order taken and beverages served, food delivered at reasonable intervals. Server checked back and cleared plates as needed. Now the dessert part-I have to say I was disappointed. I compromised from my 'only chocolate' stance to splitting a tiramisu with my husband. As I saw in another review, it was deeply lacking in any identifable flavor-just sugary cake with white icing. BLECK! I'm saddened to learn that they contract with Beaverton Bakery rather than producing the ones I remember from the original location on SW 23rd. I did see a number of other couples coming in for dessert-only orders, so I am sure other choices are better. Just skip the tiramisu. I'll keep coming back for the pastrami, as it is the best on this side of the river...

I'm shocked to see how many people say they loved the food here. I found it totally bland and unsatisfying. It's the level I would expect from an Applebees, with higher prices of course! When this location first opened, they had the classic Roses bakery pastries shipped in. They now go through Beaverton Bakery, and the desserts have gone way down hill, in taste and in portion size. We once wanted to try their breakfast menu, but arrived at around 9 to find that they didn't open until 11am. That's too late for a breakfast menu, especially on a weekday.

Meh.... My boyfriend and I went to Rose's Bakery, expecting the same great food and service we had at the one in Sherwood, Oregon, only to be dissappointed. This morning we went there for breakfast and it started out okay. We managed to slip in between a rush and only had to wait about 5 or 10 minutes for a table, and the staff was friendly so all seemed well. We had never been to this one so first off, the decor is very nice. The doors were painted in a festive holiday theme and the cakes and desserts wooed us as we were taken to our table. But then, in one of the booths, on my side actually, had a ripped and punctured seat, making it uncomfortable to sit on. Fortunately the seat was long so I could just scoot over. I wouldn't even crititque this factor except that it seems a little quick for the restaurant to be experiencing this kind of damage, when it's so "new." But we did get our coffee quickly, which is always nice when you go in for breakfast. We ordered our food - the corned beef hash for him and the cinnamon roll french toast for me. When my boyfriend's corned beef hash came out, he could tell right away it wasn't going to be the same meal we had eaten months ago at the Sherwood location. The hash there seemed like it was real, instead of whatever canned-processed crap they used here. Not only did it look completely different (like thinner shavings of leftover products), it was caked in grease. My boyfriend looked past that, hoping the taste was better and that his sourdough toast would lighten the blow of all of the grease. It may have tasted alright, but he said that the toast was off - that it was lighter and airier than it should be. I know toast isn't a big deal usually but my man loves his bread. :) As for mine, my cinnamon roll french toast was very eggy. I know that the cinnamon rolls at Rose's are HUGE and while theses slices were big, I'm not sure if it was b/c they were from the actual cinnamon roll or if it's b/c they were soaked in egg batter for too long. When they came out, there was literally pieces of egg still clinging to the crust, all puffed up like it is after it's just been cooked. I doused my bread in syrup, my usual routine, but noticed that not only was it off in appearance (compared to my Sherwood meal), but that it was a little mushier and soggier than it should have been. I'm no master chef in the kitchen but I at least know what good french toast is supposed to taste like. We did still eat the food though, with no complaints to the waitress, hoping that his greasy meal wouldn't catch up with him later and that my eggy bread wouldn't disturb my morning. It took some time getting our check, even after I covered my food with my napkin (a clear sign of defeat), so I used the restroom to pass the time. Not that I expect it to be grand, but having seating for your wait to get into the restaurant right in front of the bathrooms seemed odd. It also made the space in between you and the person's knees very tight. Thank gawd no one else was walking down the hall at the same time I was. The door to the bathroom was just a simple push door but seemed sticky when I opened it, like with syrup or something. (Blech!) Inside when I went to wash my hands, only 1 of the 2 sinks worked and the one that worked didn't have a working soap pump. Again, thank gawd no one else was in there with me or it would have made a simple task like washing my hands very tricky and awkward. I went back to my table, expecting to grab my purse and coat and be on our way only to discover that our server still hadn't brought our ticket. My boyfriend and I actually thought that maybe we would have to go up to the counter, where 2 customer service memebers were standing and talking right in front of our booth, to get it. Fortunatley however, our girl finally came. Overall, my rating is "meh." The one in Sherwood was wonderful so we assumed (dangerous word, I know) that this one would offer the same great experience. Just from today's trial, we probably won't be going back, which is sad b/c this one is at least on our side of town. I hate to say it but it's almost expected when kids run the building. (Kids being people in their teens and early 20's). Apparently customer service isn't the same as it used to be, but the sad thing is that I'm only in my early 30's.

Yeah, the food is good, but what is Roses main attraction? The desserts! Oh my! So many to choose from!! Do you go with the Size-of-Colorado eclairs, the heavenly Rasberry Poppy, or have a simple yet elegant cupcake? So many choices! Guess you'll have to keep coming back! It's a good spot for dinner, but don't order anything if you plan on getting dessert. I know from personal experience! Over all, Roses is a good spot!

There was plenty of meat on the cold deli sandwiches, they make for a great value. The Black Forest cake was good, way too much after having a meal though. This would be a great place when you just want dessert

Wow,my husband and I ate there for dinner and the service and food was terrible! I had eggshell in my egg salad sandwich, our first server barely spoke English, and my husbands coffee was old.oh and did I mention the stale bread on my sandwich as well. In addition, they brought and Italian soda which was not stirred so when I stirred it,the drink was so full it flew all over the table and they didn't bother to credit our check or give us a new drink. Moreover,we were the only ones in the whole place and no one came to take my husbands card at the end. We waited 20min and decided to get up and try and flag someone down. Terrible, would not let my worst enemy eat here.

If you want a cake that will blow your socks off and then puts them back on fresh and clean, then buy a slice from roses. Yes it is a little pricey but cakes take time to raise it from a cub to a grown lion filled with flavor. It is amazing! There lunch and dinner food are decent. The decent foods is matched by a decent price. We had the California chicken burger and the fish and chips. The fish was okay but the chicken burger was amazing and made my tummy scream Yeah like Usher.

Once again, the food is good. Somewhat pricey for what it is, but at this point the value still persists. The service is not what it should be, and it never really has been acceptable. Too slow. Way too slow. Not sure if they have a scheduling issue or just cannot hire enough people. Go for breakfast.

8/7/2015 First time to this restaurant. Ordered Fish and Chips. All of the food looked good, and was served hot. The fish was flavorless and contained no seasonings. Same for the cole slaw. Even the tarter sauce was so bland, I couldn't figure out how it was made. NO FLAVOR. NO SEASONINGS. The french fries were good, but again, no seasonings, just plain french fired potatoes. My friend ordered the pastrami dip. Comments are exactly the same. No flavor, no seasoning. All the food was bland. We asked to see the desert menu. While everything on the menu looked good, the savory meal was so dissatisfying, we decided to skip desert. Additionally, the desert menu was crusty with dried food. Over all, I do not recommend this location. Perhaps another location is better. One last thing.... the music was extremely annoying.

I really don't have much to say about Rose's and that is exactly the problem. Everything we had was blah. I really don't see myself ever wasting my time coming into the place again. Our server was kind and smiley but the decor reminds me of a 1995 Perkins restaurant and the food is so bland.

My daughter and I went there today for lunch. We both had a small house salad and 1/2 tuna salad sandwich (we ordered them grilled). The waiter had a hard time understanding what I meant, i.e. do you mean toasted? do you want cheese on it? etc. They were sort of lightly grilled on small slices of bread. The salad was fine but the food order time was slow. The utensils were not clean, I cleaned mine with my napkin dipped in my water glass, my daughter did not use her knife. Place needs some maintenance, a general overall cleaning, bathrooms we so so. Seems to have gone downhill since they first opened. Kind of sad.

This place is getting better! I went here on my first date like 9 years ago, which was great. The place was crowded, full of life, then it went downhill after that, it was deserted, no customers. So, recently we started eating here again. Maybe there is a new management, but I have eaten here the last couple of weeks and I am pleased with the comeback and great food! :)

This use to be a great place, especially for breakfast. I haven't been here for a while and now I remember why. I was very disappointed to see it had gone downhill even further. The place was almost empty for lunch, it felt dirty, and the help seemed inexperienced. The food was nothing to brag about. Sorry to see it this way. What happened? Management? Owners?

Wait staff was friendly and struck just the right balance on tending to us. My friend and I had an early lunch, so it was not busy. We both agreed the food was good and the portion sizes were good. However, I did find it a tad pricey when compared to like establishments. Definitely not a destination eating establishment, but if your in the area give it a try. Oh, and they do breakfast all day....always a plus in my book.

Rose's is not the same restaurant created many years ago. The key to a successful long-standing restaurant, is to always serve the highest quality foods, and maintain the best service WITHOUT FAIL!!! I too, have found the quality of their food to go downhill for the last several years. My favorite since the 1960s was the Reuben sandwich. I've had it no less than 50 times over my lifetime but since the opening of the 192nd Ave. location, I no longer have a favorite. They've killed it for me. The bakery case... No matter what I order; strawberry cake, banana cake, cheesecake, chocolate cake, an èclair, brownie, or some other type of pastry, they all taste like the refrigerator. The waitstaff are slow, without knowledge, and without a care in the world except for themselves and the cute boy or the cute girl waiting tables in another section. At this point I don't know that I will ever return.

  • Gloria G.

We went to this Restaurant thinking it would match the quality of the Portland Roses Restaurant. How wrong we were ! Their famous Reuben was pitiful to say the least. The sandwich was $ 14.99 and had one thin slice of pastrami and two slices of turkey. The bread must have been microwaved to melt the slice of Swiss cheese as you couldn't even cut the bread with a steak knife let alone chew it. The French Fries appearance was good but they were totally tasteless. The other dish ordered was a salad with a chicken breast. This was equally unsatisfactory. The chicken Breast was tough and tasteless. The greens turned out to be Romaine and was actually fresh. The waitress was young and inexperienced obviously. We will never return to this Restaurant. Fast food has better quality ! Don't bother wasting your time, money and appetite on this restaurant.
