** Review # 700 ** I've been a fan of Miroslav & Christina for 6+ years. For years they were at the Federal Way farmers market and every Saturday from May - October we had lunch from their kiosk (my oldest one LOVES everything they make - especially the cabbage rolls). We finally had the chance to try their restaurant in Tacoma. I knew we would like it but we didn't just like it - we LOVED it! It's a cute little restaurant just off the highway. Our server was super sweet and gladly explained any questions we had on the menu. We ordered 2 lunch specials - 1) Goulash soup, roulade, red cabbage and potatoes & 2) Hangover soup (EXCELLENT - best soup I think I've ever had), Bruno schnitzel (cooked perfectly and tender), cucumber salad, spatzle. We got a spezi (orange coke) to drink (it was surprisingly good). The total with tax and tip was $26. This was the best lunch I've had in a long time and can hardly wait to go again!!!

It's too bad I discovered this restaurant the last week of my time at the college near by. I would have made a stop over to Bruno's quite often over the years. The food was delicious and filling. The wait staff is quick and attentive. I definitely recommend checking out Bruno's if you're looking for a nice German meal in the parkland area.

I gave it 4 stars only because I felt like it was a bit pricey for dinner. (How much can a piece of chicken, a serving of cabbage, and some and spatzle cost? The food was absolutely wonderful. Perfect schnitzel, wonderful cabbage (not too overwhelming) despite my concern over the prices I will still go back! Where else can you find good German food around here?! The chef must have had some friends there as he was running out the food personally to a table behind us and conversing with them in German (I assume). Seemed like he took pride in his food/business. The waitress was oober nice. She was patient when we ordered and kept my water glass full (that is a huge one for me!) Great food and great service. The dessert case looked yummy. May have to bring home a treat next time. I'm a food snob and you should go here. It is divine.

Good food but get ready to wait. You never know how long it would take. First time it took almost 30-40 minutes to take our order only, we almost walked out of that place. However, food came 10-20 later and it was delicious. Second time, everything was faster but still have some time to wait.

My family and I went here for the first time this evening and I can honestly say, while I've been to worse restaurants, I've also been to better. The service was honestly terrible and the food tasted like it was all pre-made. If you're looking for good German or Polish food, you'd be better off making it at home.

The pickle soup was amazing. I only ordered a cup and wished I had got a bowl. I was seriously considering just having another bowl of the soup for desert. My husband and I got the perogi w/ potato and cheese as well as meat and they were ok, but nothing to write home about. The schnitzel my husband had was very good, and even better with the hunter gravy. The rouladen was delicious but perhaps a tad dry. The German potato salad was served cold which was disappointing, but I was too trusting it would be traditional. The cucumber salad was so simple but AWESOME! The red cabbage was also very tasty! The shocker was the Lemoncello cake. It was so good I would like to kiss the pastry chef! My husband and I will be talking about that for days no WEEKS! Next time I'm here for dinner I'd order a BOWL of pickle soup, Bruno's Schnitzel with a side of hunter gravy, and if I don't have room for desert I'd order a slice of Lemoncello cake to go. YUM!

Wow! I love trying new foods Expecially when they are from different cultures. This was my first time having german food at all. I was not disapointed. It needed a bit of salt and pepper, but maybe that's just how it is. I think Americans like salt too much sometimes. The cucumber salad was incredible! The meat was tender and juicy and very good! I wish I had ordered the snitzel for myself, but luckily mom wasn't able to eat all of hers so I was able to help her out! If you love mushrooms, try the jäger snitzel! We also tried two desserts, but were so excited I forgot to take any pictures! But they were amazing as well! A Lemon cream cake thing and a little berry cheesecake tart type thing. (Sorry can't remember names of either dessert. ) if your in the area and looking for a new type of food to try, make the stop! Also the waitresses are very sweet and helpful! And we loved the german themed outfits!

We had tried the food here once before during Oktoberfest and it was ok although the menu only included small sides such as pretzels and streusel. We decided to try it again and the food was not good. The food was bland and tasted as though it had all been reheated or previously frozen. The food did not taste fresh at all. We ordered the jaeger schnitzel and the polish platter. Extremely disappointed in the mushroom sauce for the jaeger schnitzel as it had canned mushrooms and the polish platter barely filled up half of the to go box it came in. Over prized, bland and not fresh.

Just ate here tonight and we would definitely come back! The sausages were very good, as was the cabbage roll and even the pureed potatoes (they taste better than they look!). The atmosphere is very humble and homey (the neighborhood is a little sketchy). However, the food is completely worth it and the staff is very nice.

Bruno's Schnitzel with cucumber salad and potato salad - This was not a bad meal. It was recommended by a nice older gentleman that was coming out who was a regular. This was a great choice, but I expected better food. I guess it was hyped up a little bit too much. Hangover soup - I've made something close to this and Bruno's soup was nothing really special. I really wanted to like it, but I guess my palette just doesn't agree.

Hate to rain of this parade. This is my first visit and my experience at Bruno's is not close to what the previous reviewers wrote. My wife and I dined there on Thursday, 6-23-11 at around 7pm. Moderate crowd with one table with a group of six or so diners. Several couples and one lone diner. We got seated quickly by a gentleman wearing a chef hat and shorts. Assume he was Bruno. He appeared shy and was present in the dining area throughout our meal, but never made much even eye contact or spoke with us or anyone else. A quick "how was it" was all he said after we were done eating. I noticed he was serving and busing tables. This should have been clue #1. If he was the chef, who was doing the cooking? Waitress arrived soon and gave us our menu. We were still undecided on our drinks and took more time with the drink menu. We had in our possession a take out menu given by a co-worker who was there and know what we want to eat. I decide to go classic and try the Goulash soup and the Jager Schnitzel, red cabbage and dumplings. My wife wanted the Hangover soup and the Bratwurst with potato salad. We got our drink relatively soon. But after seeing several plates of food coming out of the kitchen area for the people who came in after us and our soups (1st course) were still not served...I was wondering...clue #2. After about 30-40 minutes, we got our food (main course). The schnitzel came with the noodles instead of dumplings as ordered. Also the soups were still missing. To the waitress's credit, she brought them out within a minute after we informed her. (confirming soup should be easy to serve...and quickly) (same thing with the dumplings) Here is the heart of the review. How good was the food? Not BAD, but not good, even for Parkland fast food standard. I was starving because of work and missed lunch. Even with that I was very disappointed. The Goulash soup had this came from a can taste. There was a hint of burnt flavor as if the bottom of the pot got scorched and a bit of that got scraped up into the rest of the soup. I've eaten lots of Goulash Soup while living in Germany and my visit to Hungary. It lacked the paprika flavor characteristic of Goulash. Dainty Moore Beef Stew thinned to a soup consistency is what I got. My Schnitzel was OK. Big distracter from the flavor was the fact it was just warm, not freshly cooked (hot). The meat was a white piece of thin pork with brown mushroom gravy. Nice flavor and no gristle was the only positive thing I can say. Same gravy on the over cooked noodles. (after reading other's posting, I'm really disappointed with the Schnitzel. It was definetly NOT breaded, fried, moist/juicy) (someone failed to do it right in the kitchen) About the noodle, not home made spritzle. Just like the soup, taste and appeared from a package or can. They were over cooked. Saving grace was the nice gravy. The dumpling appeared homemade and it was hot and tasty...then that was brought out when I pointed out to the waitress that I wanted dumplings, not noodles. The red cabbage was OK. Served cold/room temp. Not unlike what I had before. My wife's brat was way over cooked. How can you have a dry sausage...the kraut was good, nice vinegar hint to it. Potato salad better than the Safeway deli in a tub version. We finished by sharing a layered cake. It was good. Keep the pastry supplier. This was the highlight of the meal. Made better when the waitress made it on the house for the mixed ups. Will give them the benefit of the doubt that it was an off night and close to closing time. May try again for lunch...when the soup is fresher. Our bill was $47 including tip.

My wife took me here for my birthday because I had been craving German food - inexplicably - for nearly a month. We had a little fun finding the place; it's in a building that doesn't look like a restaurant building, behind a strip club. Once there, we found a cozy little restaurant packed with hungry guests. Bruno's is a great spot for people watching. Across from us, an obese man and his wife sat down around the same time. Throughout the night, our shared waitress dealt with the man's growing impatience and hostility with charm. Even as the man literally changed colors in accordance with his rising blood pressure, the waitress handled the situation like a pro. She also took slightly better care of my wife and I than the obese man and his wife, reminding me of the old saying about getting more flies with honey than vinegar. Serves you right for being unnecessarily hostile, buddy. Food at Bruno's is amazing. Rarely have I looked at a menu and thought "I literally want to come back over and over until I have tried everything on the menu." I had the hangover soup - rich with chunks of ham and beans - and the jaeger schnitzel, but I could just have easily had ordered the stuffed cabbage, kielbasi or pierogis. The schnitzel was outstanding; great sauce and a good piece of pork. Beer is authentic Eastern European, including a lot of Polish beers that I don't see often (try the Zwyiec Baltic Porter, but be careful, as it is 9.5% ABV) and some great well known German beers (Warsteiner and Hofbrau). We had a great time and will return often.

I'm pretty hard on German food since I grew up on it. This food is okay and it is really heavy. It could be lighter, hotter grease makes for a lighter schnitzel. Tuck it away, Bruno. Sauer kraut is very good. It could be worse......

We were in Tacoma and I've wanted to try Bruno's for some time. We received excellent service and the food was really good. The potato salad was great, I was expecting it to be warm, still it had a nice tartness. The red cabbage had a touch of sweetness and finally the Schnitzel was cooked just right. Dinner was a little pricey, I defiantly plan to go back for lunch.

Yummies! From the moment I entered the restaurant til I left. I took the other half for his birthday.... The trip there was a pain... As in there are no street lights in that area and it's behind a strip club.... This place is small, so you'll have to be patient for a parking spot and a seat inside, There are a few waitresses... So like I said before, you have to be patient. Thankfully for my other yelp members, they warned me of this... We got our seats, and the restaurant just smells amazing. Took a look at the menu, everything just looks amazing, so it took some time to figure out what to get. At the time, there was a main waitress, a hostess and another waitress. Some folks who didn't have the patience, got really ticked off at the service.... This was complete entertainment for us. We both had the cup of hangover soup with bread... Both delicious!!! The other half had the jäger schnitzel with red cabbage and potato dumplings and I had the spicy pepper schnitzel with cucumber salad and spazel... AMAZING!!!!! All of it was delicious. After we were done with our meals, we just laughed at the impatiencant customers. The food is worth the wait... Just don't be impatient when it comes to the service.... If you are nice, you'll be treated like family... :-)

So it was my first time going to Brunos since it changed and I got the Sausage Trio with Potato Dumplings. And the potato dumplings were so delicious covered with some kind of gravy sauce. Also I don't usually like sauerkraut , but I love their's; probably the best sauerkraut I've ever eaten. I would DEFINITELY recommend!!!!

So here lies a little neighborhood gem that so closely resembles my favorite place on earth-Germany. I love Bruno's- I need Bruno's! Having grown up in a German household and spending a lot of time with my German grandma(Oma), I adapted a taste for true European home cooking. Bruno's is the most authentic German fare I have come across. Start with the hangover soup- a delicious concoction of tender beef, pickles and onions. The goulash soup is equally good. Gotta try the Bruno's schnitzel, perfectly executed with just the right amount of breading which I have never quite been able to duplicate, though I've tried. The potato pancakes with homemade applesauce takes me back to my childhood when my Oma would visit from Germany and prepare that for us. I love the beef rouladen- thinly sliced beef stuffed with bacon, pickles, onions and mustard then slowly simmered until fork tender. The sides are the icing on the cake. There's potato salad, sauerkraut, red cabbage(rot kohl) and spaetzle- a scratch made pasta. The only thing I don't like is that they serve the red cabbage cold. I like it hot. They also feature authentic Polish fare such as stuffed cabbage rolls. The owners, Bruno and Christina are so lovely and welcoming and always hands on. Check this place out. There's no where else like it in town and once you step in and take in the aroma and the decor, you'll feel like you stepped right into grandma's house. Oh, and be sure to wash it all down with a refreshing German lager. Prost!!

Went to Bruno's for lunch the first time with friends on June 10th. Had the schnitzel which had very good flavor, however, it was a little on the dry side (no gravy); had a side of spatzel which did have some gravy on it and it was also good; and a side of red cabbage which was delicious. I do like my food a little more on the spicier side, so I found it a little bland, and just added salt and pepper. Overall it was a good food experience, the restaurant was clean, staff was friendly, and the restaurant had a homey feeling to it (not much parking though).

We had a wonderful dinner of German food and enjoyed it immensely! My son & his fiancé, who have spent considerable time in Germany & Switzerland, said the food was authentic & the selections were what they had hoped. I had the cabbage rolls and it was wonderful comfort food for a chilly winter night. We will definitely come back again.

The food is absolutely fantastic! We took my Aunt (who grew up in Germany) here yesterday and she had nothing but good things to say about all the dishes that we tried. She ordered the Goulash and 1/2 Schnitzel with Red Cabbage and potato puree. My wife and I both ordered the Jaeger Schnitzel with Potato Salad and I tried the sauerkraut. The schnitzels were all fantastic! The mushroom and onion sauce had plenty of mushrooms and a great flavor. We'll definitely be going here again and I can see this being a regular stop when we visit South Tacoma.

So amazing! We got the hangover soup to start, and oh. em. gee. is it ever tasty! The tang from the pickles in the soup makes it so good and totally balanced. For my entree, I got the curry wurst with red cabbage as a side order. The red cabbage is better than any I've ever had before and the potato salad had the perfect amount of dressing. I hate when you get potato salad and it's drenched in dressing. The curry wurst was amazing as well. I'm from Wisconsin so I know my German food and love my bratwurst, and I can say this place knocks it out of the park! This place tops our list of best places to eat in Tacoma so far!

Had an early dinner there on Saturday afternoon. Wonderful food and great people. I lived in Germany for many years and this was the best German food I have had this side of the Atlantic. The brochen was incredible, pork knuckle in sauerkraut, spatsel, wonderful stuff. We happened to meet Bruno's wife.........what a great lady. We will defiantly be back many times.

Amazing! Very authentic. I think too many of the 2 star and 1 star reviews on here are because they're not familiar with authentic German/Polish food. Just my guess. I had the Jaegerschnitzel, mashed potatoes and the cucumber salad. OMG...the first smell when the plate came was the cucumber salad and it was jaw dropping delicious. Fresh, a bit al dante, and just the right mixture of sweet and tangy. I wanted more! The JS was awesome - perfect texture and loaded with sauce and onions. The mashed potatoes and gravy were just like homemade...a little bit of texture. Yum! Spent three years in Germany (1986 -1989) and I felt like I stepped right back in time. It's a bit small inside, but that makes it quaint and definitely part of the experience. Very nice tables and chairs. Solid stuff and not the cheap standard you find in many restaurants. Was SOOOO happy to see some culture and character in this part of Tacoma! I can't wait to go back and try more!

This is by far the best German restaurant in Tacoma. The prices are reasonable and the staff is awesome. They do their own Octoberfest every year and it is really good. This reminds me so much of Germany I hope they never go out of business.

a little, diner-ish restaurant, pretty full with mostly people in their 60s or 70s on a Friday for lunch. the staff is very friendly and efficient. we had goulash (okay), hangover soup(good), Bruno shnitzel(okay), mashed potatoes (bland), and a cabbage roll(good-the tomato cream sauce carries the dish). overall an okay place for quick lunch.

I have driven past this site many times, even when it was a creole restaurnat! Finally decided today to drag my butt in for lunch. It was crowded, good sign. Nice, cheery decor, friendly staff, prompt service. I don't know much about German food, other than my Mum's very very good veal or chicken schnitzel, so..... I had goulash soup & Polish (yeah I know, NOT German) Wedding Sausage. Oh, and the bread roll with the soup was perfect, crunchy outside, airy light inside. Did not try dessert, way too full (probably the perfect bread roll), and had leftovers. I will definitely return, already know what I will have - currywurst, or maybe jager schnitzel, now I gotta come back at least 2 times...

This evening had the beginnings of disaster. Our foodie group arrived at the restaurant at the appointed time, only to find that they had "lost" our reservation. Normally this wouldn't be a big deal, but Bruno's is a relatively small place and we were a group of 10. They said they could get us in if we were willing to wait. We were all really looking forward to eating here, so we agreed. After waiting out front for at least half an hour, they seated us on the patio. Sun blazing in our eyes, loud traffic, no offer of drinks... It was unacceptable. Then I went to use the only restroom and the toilet was clogged and flooding all over the floor. We were about to bail completely when they said a table in the banquet room had just opened up. We gratefully moved, but it was still an hour and twenty minutes before I even got a water! We finally got drinks and placed our orders... Then that's when the amazement started. The food was absolutely incredible. I can't recommend any particular thing because it was all SO GOOD!!! Bruno came out and apologized for the mix up and the long wait, but by that time even I had forgiven everything. I can't wait to go back!

10am on these west coast and I had not yet had breakfast. Of course my body says its 1p since I am on east coast time. (Opens at 11 so glad it took a while to find.) Needed something more than a doughnut and coffee. Found this quaint little place on yelp. 20 minute drive but well worth it. Foggy morning and cool. Started with the hangover soup. The cup was the perfect size to start. Served with a large roll I used for dunking. Good taste and perfect temperature and warmed me right up. Then had the Bruno Schnitzel. Very generous portion size. Just the right amount of breaking and very tender. A whole new meaning to comfort food. Chose the red cabbage and noodles for sides. In minutes I was a very happy camper. Absolutely satisfied taste buds and tummy. Perfect lunch. I did take the waitress recommendation to squeeze a little bit of lemon on the schnitzel. Now I only hope the hotel room has a fridge. I could only eat half the meal.

What a pleasant surprise! We found this restaurant accidentally and decided to stop in. The ambience is very cozy and comfortable, and the waitresses were pleasant and knowledgeable about the dishes. I had cheese blintzes which were excellent and my companions really loved the pickle soup and the German potato salad. Unfortunately we did not have room for dessert but they looked beautiful. I think it would be hard to decide on one because they all looked so good. I will definitely go back.

Bruno's and we go WAY back. I can remember when it was in a tiny space not far from the current location. The food was fantastic, but the kitchen was so close to the dining space that it seemed like we were eating off the stove. We picked Bruno's for a recent birthday celebration, and were delighted to find a pleasant, roomy, cafe-like atmosphere with the same attentive servers, central-European menu, authentic beer selection, and the newest addition: an expanded and delicious dessert assortment. We showed up early on a Friday without a reservation and were lucky to get a table for four. All four of us have lived or visited relatives in Germany, so our standards are regal. They were met. My Bruno Schnitzel was perfectly done, crisp yet juicy. The Gurkensalat is as close to authentic as you can get this side of Munich, and my two meat-eating companions raved about the special, the Schweinebraten. Our lone veggie hold-out pronounced herself more than satisfied with her Spätzle. All of this was washed down with imported bottled beers direct from the Old Country, although they also have a couple of brands on draught, including a Weizen. The gemütlich atmosphere and near-authentic cuisine mean that we will be back, SOON!

You really only need to know one thing: They charge $4.50 for a can of soda. A single, aluminum can. No price on the menu, just tacked it on your bill at the end. That's sneaky and untrustworthy. I won't review the food. Clearly that's not what Bruno is about.

    (1)
  • Harry F.

Hope B. - did you ask someone employed at Bruno's if they re-sell "Hess" desserts? Seems to me, because I know some of the vendors, that you are totally uninformed and guessing. Secondly, Bruno's is the most authentic creator of Eastern European dishes available in the northwest - must be because the owners are born and raised in Poland - they came to the USA as adults - so they have first-hand knowledge of how the food was made. They do not use "Americanized versions" of potato pancakes - they make it like my Mama used to make it (another immigrant to the USA). They make the premiere Schnitzels without skimping on the meat. Even Guy Fieri LOVED the Hangover Soup - which you apparently decided to diss. People - this place is the REAL THING when you talk about Eastern European (specifically Polish and German) dishes. They earn each and every star that Yelp permits us to use! And, by the way, the "Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte" (Black Forest Cherry Torte) is SUPREME - with ingredients that can be certified accurate to those tortes made in Germany. I know this because I know the maker of this awesome specialty.

Oh boy... being a server I might just have high expectations of restaurants. Came in and got seated right a way, during the dinner rush on a Saturday. It then took about 30 minutes to see our waitress just to get our drinks, at that point we asked to order and the server turned around at talked to another table as we were trying to order. Very rude and unprofessional. She took our order, then left again for 20 minutes and no drinks. As a table of two, it took 48 minutes to get a cup of soup.... before we even got our soup, the table of 8 who ordered a lot after got- got their full dinner. Very unacceptable, especially since it sits in a pot all day. The food was decent, the curry worst wasn't that great, the soup was great and the schnitzel was good. Over all took two hours to get the food and eat. I probably won't be back.

Yikes. Tacoma Yelpers, you led us astray! This was a terrible experience all around. The poor older woman who was serving our section was busting her chops trying to do her job. There's something amiss here, because our section wasn't that big. There were three other employees working, all younger than our server. One in particular kept disappearing. She was blonde with gauged ears. The manager or owner woman was seen twice, once she fiddled with the thermostat. I think management was preoccupied with Oktoberfest set up. It was thirty minutes before our order was taken and water and drinks were brought. Another thirty minute wait for the food. My food was terrible. I ordered the cabbage rolls. These come with "puréed potatoes." Oh, you mean mashed potatoes from a package? The "homemade tomato sauce" on my cabbage rolls tasted like Campbell's tomato soup. No joke. The meat in my rolls was dry and bland. My boyfriend got the sausage trio. There's almost no way these sausages are made in house, but they are good. The purple cabbage and sauerkraut were good. Again, the potatoes were awful. Puréed--I mean, package mashed--again. After nearly two hours, we got subpar food, slow service, and spent $45 to boot. I give two stars and not one because my boyfriend's food was okay, and our waitress was very sweet. Their label of "homemade" on things is completely bogus. Their food is overpriced, and this place is mismanaged. No, we'll never go back. Up your taste level, people.

Nice little place close to my Brother's place. i had Bruno's schnitzel which had a great flavor and nice crust. The cucumber salad was very nice and cut through the richness nicely. The spaetzle tasted ok but was very mushy indicating it was under cooked. Would I go back - most likley.

I have very mixed emotions about Bruno's. Having lived in Germany, I crave good German food. Bruno's could fulfill those cravings.... Perhaps.... The place is small and I felt almost claustrophobic. We were seated rather quickly but others who came in after us got their drinks before the waitress even came to our table. Those same people were practically finished with their food by the time ours came to the table. I ordered the zigeuner schnitzel - a favorite of mine in Germany. Bruno's wasn't bad but a little too spicy. The zigeuner schnitzel I had in Germany were never spicy. My husband ordered the jaeger schnitzel, which was very good. The German potato salad was DELICIOUS but the potato dumplings were a major disaster. They were really gross. Sauerkraut was just okay....and cucumber salad would be better if they cut back on the dill. The kids had spaetzle, which I thought had a weird taste, but the kids ate it. We waited for 20 minutes after asking for the check. Bruno's would be a much better experience if the waitresses were better trained.

This weekend I was down in Tacoma area decided to drop in and try their food. After serving in the Air Force (for let's just say a long time), I had the luck to be stationed in Germany for awhile. While stationed there, I fell in love with Germany and its food. With that note, I came to Bruno's with an eager appetite. I ordered: Hangover Soup - soup with chunks of meat, sausage, mushrooms, tomatoes, pickles, potatoes, carrots, celery, leek, parsley, dill, onions, garlic, traditional East-European spices and sour cream Jäger Schnitzel - Tender unbreaded pork loin cutlet topped with Hunter style sauce (creamy mushroom and onion sauce My girlfriend ordered: Home Made Meatloaf - Two slices of Bruno's meatloaf, covered in our brown gravy, served with purée potatoes and one of their salads The Hangover Soup was great! Having started with that, we had high expectations for the Jager Schnitzel and Meatloaf. They were ok but no 'wow' factors like the Hangover Soup. The sides of pickled cucumbers and spatzel were good but again, no 'wow' factor. The service was good and the place was nice but I was just hoping for more.

What a delicious delight!! Such an adorable, authentic German restaurant. Everything was outstanding. The service was great. We had a party of seven and we're seated in the in a cozy room. The food was fantastic. I ordered the Frikadelle and also spilt a plate of Latkes with a friend. The food came out quickly and hot. There was less than four minutes from the time the first plate hit the table to the last plate. The waitress was kind and courteous. She was attentive and accommodating. If I ever find myself back in Tacoma, I will be back here!!

Wow, just wow! Did I say wow? This place is incredible! I must have driven past this place a million times before I noticed it there. If you you're looking for great food, in a great environment, this is your place.

The wife and I came to Bruno's for a little German food and it was excellent. My wife got the Jäger Schnitzel with cucumbers and Spatzel. I got the Polish platter with Polish sausage and cabbage roll, Pierogis and purée potatoes. Excellent and delicious which we washed down with Hofbrau beer and Konig Ludwig Hefeweizen beer. Both excellent. For desert we had the Lemon Cello Cake. Light fluffy and so delicious. Super good dinner.

You can never go wrong with Bruno's! The Large Spetzle sandwich is enough to feed 4 people! The hangover soups flavor profile will sit with your taste buds for days after eating it. The bee sting is the best dessert I have ever had, light and flaky and creamy and slightly sweet. The service is one in a million! Christine and Bruno make you feel like family! I cannot get enough of this place! Can't wait to see what the new location will look like.

Hangover soup, goulash, German potato salad, pierogi, and schnitzel sandwich were all delicious! Great and friendly service and a nice selection of German beers. We'll be back for sure.

Bruno's is a breath of fresh air for the Tacoma restaurant scene! Bruno's specializes in German and Polish cuisine and the result here is nothing short of fantastic! Steve and I met a friend here the other day and had supper here. Our friend is a light eater and ordered some of the Hangover Soup. I got a taste of it and it was nothing short of amazing! It is pretty much a vegetable soup ( or a kitchen sink food item where pretty much everything is in the soup) and though the combination sounds iffy there are pickles in the soup. Trust me. The taste is great! I ordered the meatloaf meal along with a side of mashed potatoes and cucumber salad. The meatloaf had a wonderful flavor to it and was seasoned perfectly! The mashed potatoes and salad was nothing short of wonderful! I also got the opportunity to try some of their Spatzel(a pasta dish) and like everything else, it was delicious! We all were still hungry and Steve and I ordered desserts as well. I got the Apple Strudel and Steve got a Plum Cake. Both desserts were perfect to a perfect supper! What I really like about Bruno's is that the portions are perfect. I have been to other German or European eating places before and sometimes the food is so rich and so filling that it feels like you can barely make a dent in your meal and you take a lot home(and that is ok!). Other times the food just tastes very plain and seems unloved. In the case of Bruno's that is not a problem!

I enjoyed every bite! I had the hangover soup which was very tasty. The Zigeuner schnitzel was superb! I tried the potato dumplings for the first time and was impressed as well as the purple cabbage. The place was packed and stayed packed the whole time I was there. If you are going I would advice you make a reservation seemed to me they come right in and sit down right away. Although the wait is a little long it is well worth it. When I am back in the area I will definitely go again!

Amazing, authentic food, the lunch specials are a great deal! Under $10 for the plate and cup of soup if you come between 11 and 2. The Limoncello cake is AWESOME! I had the Frickadelle. Frickin' delicious :-)

Excellent place. Great wait staff, decor, you name it, it's excellent. The waitresses are dressed as European waitresses. They have a nice beer stein collection. Food is perfect! Trio of sausages is more than this fat guy can eat. German potato salad tops all others. Sauerkraut goes with everything. Schnitzel sandwich was perfect. As was the hangover soup. A bit out of the way, but worth it! Don't be put off by the strip joint next door.

The lunch special with the famous Hang Over Soup / Beef Rouladen (beef wrapped with bacon, in a smooth brown gravy sauce / Pasta / and vinger cucumbers was awesome, all for under $10. The waitress was extremely friendly and helpful. I followed my normal "Bring me your favorite" and she was able not only to handle the pitch, but hit it out the park. I am sure this is a wonderful place for dinner as well and will be back.

The service was great. Attentive and they were nice. The food... Tasteless and super greasy latke. So greasy that when you pushed down on them with a fork they oozed oil. The perogies were also tasteless. The caramelized onions were tan and not really caramelized. The famous hangover soup had flavor but pickles were all you could discern. The brochen were stale. My tummy hurt from all the grease. The desserts looked awesome. They should since they are from the Lakewood German bakery. Do yourself a favor and just go to the bakery to begin with.

This restaurant is AMAZING! We just went for the first time to try the pickled soup everyone rants and raves about for lunch but they only make it Saturday's so we tried the hangover soup. It was DELICIOUS! My husband and I both had a cup and it comes with a buttered roll. It was perfect amount of food and the check was only 7.65...lunch for 2 only 7.65??! Amazing. It is a cute atmosphere, feels like your in Germany. The people are so kind and menu is very authentic. Def go if you haven't!

Not saying I'm never going back...but if I do, I'll try something else. The schnitzel didn't knock my socks off, nor did the potato salad...the purple cabbage was as it should be though. The beer? strange. Don't remember what it was, but it was on tap, and I just didn't like the funny smell at all. There was a "brown gravy" as well, that you had to order a side of. I did. It was nothing special. I am sure I just got the wrong things. Too plain. Woops, forgot to add that I really liked the "hang over soup". excellent broth flavor and full of pork/veg and even pickley goodness.

Oh, Bruno....Bruno, Bruno, Bruno, Bruno, Bruno....you beautiful bearded Bavarian bastard. This place... I've never been to Germany nor any of the eastern European states. I don't have a German relative that cooks dishes from the motherland. This is all that I know of German/German-adjacent food....and I love it. I haven't veered much on the menu, typically electing for schnitzels. Bruno Schnitzel or the Jaeger Schnitzels are my favorite. I've had the cabbage rolls and liked the heck out of them too. Hot tip: Go there on Saturday and get you some pickle soup, for it is delicious.

Great Selection of food, deserts and beers. Has a very authentic feel which is nice. Very reasonably priced. It is a very small place and extremely busy, so most people make reservations. If you are interested in desert they have a desert tray to show you and explain each item which I appreciate. We eat with our eyes!

The red cabbage was great. The Spaetlze was just ok. The disappointment was from the Sauerbraten. Some of the pieces were tender but most was dry and tough!

    (2)
  • Ana P.

Got the rouladen with potato dumplings. It was a bit dry and bland, the sauerkraut though was on point. I'll give it another go, since the place is well known for its schnitzel and they have a good list to get through. The beer selection is great.

Seems like the real deal. I'm not German but it was good. Tried a little of everything sine I had a teenage boy with me to eat it all. Stuffed cabbage and dumplings were really good Borsch was flavorful but light

Service was superb! Such ruthless German efficiency. The food was delish! Went after watching food network where the Hangover soup was featured. Wow! Flavorful and definitely worth a visit. Sorry I only had 1 cup and not a bowl. Main course threw me over the top. I left stuffed. Best for a good appetite and a cold winters day.

Hangover soup and Jager schnitzel was okay. Nothing I couldn't make at home. Our sides were cucumber salad and German potato salad. Wasn't a fan of it, but it wasn't horrible. At least we can't ever say we never tried this place.

This was the 2nd time my family of 5 and I have eaten here. The service was good, didn't fill our drinks. The zejunger schnitzel was delicious and my 10 year old loves the ground sausage plate. The wife enjoyed her jager schnitzel. I love the cucumber salad and the potato salad is so delicious. Worth going to eat.

Try the Hangover soup. The brotchen is authentic as it gets. I'd come back just for this! For those of you don't know German food it's not light fair. If it were I wouldn't be posting this. This was a pleasant surprise. Quaint atmosphere, waitresses dressed in their dirndl's very proudly and comfortably. My friend who was supposed to go with me this first time had to stay home and take care of her family. So, I went on my own with some anticipation? Only because I was stationed in Germany for 4 years while in the US Army and opened myself to every opportunity to try the cultural foods of Europe. While my friends were heading to McDonalds in Kaiserslautern, I was making my way to nearest Schnitzel stand I could find. I've had my share of German food and probably haven't tasted everything I guess. Thus, after seeing this place on Diners, Drive-inns, and Dives it sparked my interests. Let's get started. So, their Brotchen (German dinner roll) with my hangover soup was as authentic as can be. It brought back memories of this German dinner staple. And the hangover soup? it was delicious and hardy, and a great way to start my meal. For my main dish I ordered the Schnitzel with warm german potato salad and pickled cucumbers, and a side of brown gravy. I don't know why they don't readily offer brown gravy with the breaded schnitzel, but they should at least on the side and not have to pay for it. Thus, I ordered a side of brown gravy which I have to say was good. Their breaded schnitzel is great, and so were my sides. It all brought back memories of my time in Germany. When a meal does that for me, all I can do is smile and appreciate the care taken to make the food worth it. Was it worth the trip? Yes. Yes it was well worth the trip to the half hidden restaurant near the Spanaway-Tacoma highway exit. It's worth the find and the try. The menu is filled with German and Polish dishes but not to extensive that it would make it hard to read. The service staff are Great! I forgot to find the young fraulein who was my waitress was very helpful and cordial. They get to wear the authentic dirndl dresses you would see at Octoberfest in Germany by the girls serving beer in those gigantic steins. I should know I went to Octoberfest 4 times out of the 4 years I was stationed there. I remember some years better than others. One suggestion I will make to the chef is possibly add a 1/2 or 1/4 chicken to the menu or as a special. While I was in Germany it was common for schnitzel stands and restaurants to offer a 1/2 roasted chicken on their menu.

I usually only eat European food when I go to Leavenworth, so I thought that it was nice to have a place here in Tacoma to go to. I really need to stop letting my 12 year old watch Diners, Drive in's, and Dives, because he remembers them for the area, and wants to try them all... We went at lunch time, and I thought that the prices for lunch were a little high, but we left satisfied, and happy, so it worked out. I was very impressed at how wonderful the service was. I really liked their tables, and their set up; the decor on the other hand looks a bit sloppy, and unorganized, but what it really comes down to is the food, and I thought that the food was pretty good. The hangover soup was awesome. I had a lunch special #1, It was a cabbage, meat, and rice roll, in a tomato sauce, with potato's, and I thought it was really good, aside from the salt factor, WOW, is that much salt really necessary? My son had a #6, it was some roast beef, bacon, and pickle thing, and it was also too salty, and lacked a little in flavor, so I was happy with my choice, glad that I didn't get that one. Now their desserts are a whole other story, they had some amazing desserts, definitely something to go back for. I highly suggest getting a dessert to counter some of the salt.

The reviews of this restaurant made me seek it out. It's off the beaten path in Parkland. The wait staff are quite attentive and very nice. I was seated promptly and my water was kept full. The hangover soup is SO good. It had a good mixture of ingredients. I wish I'd ordered a bowl instead of a cup. I was so excited to see cabbage rolls on the menu. A German Polish restaurant, of course they had cabbage rolls! The rolls were good-a bit heavy on the rice, but still flavorful. However, imagine my disappointment when they served them with the sauce that was Campbells Tomato Soup. I know this is one way of making them-an American way. However it's not how I expected to have them served in authentic German style place. There wasn't any spice to speak of. The pastries looked delicious-some made in house, some made at Hess's German Bakery in Lakewood. I should have ordered the schnitzel.

This entrance to this place is hard to find during a rainy night, although it is probably at any time if you have never been here before. Parents asked me to pick a place for dinner and I settled on this place based on yelp reviews. It did not disappoint. The decor in here is delightful and so are the ladies that serve. I had the hangover soup - delicious - and the currywurst. Grandpa and the parents all had variations of the schnitzel. Everyone THOROUGHLY enjoyed their meals.

After having lived in Poland for a year, This is the only place where I feel like I can actually get good food. The service is great the waitresses are wonderful and the cost is worth it. It's not overpriced if you go during lunch, in fact I don't think it's overpriced at all ever. However I would suggest that if you go for dinner you make sure you plan ahead for time. It's gotten a lot more popular since it was on diners drive-ins and dives. Highly suggest about the Polish food it is wonderful as well as the German cuisine.

Skip this place. Not authentic (I lived in Germany for several years and traveled extensively eating at local restaurants in every stop). Not good. Had the polish platter. Cabbage was good but everything else was horrible. Potato salad was cold, had no bacon (even flavor of pork fat was absent). Pierogies were over cooked--meat filled was horribly dry and the potato/cheese had no cheese taste. Rolls were NOT brotchen (when I asked for brotchen the server didn't even know what I meant). Not even worth giving it a second try to redeem themselves. If I had burned the cash I spent on that meal and eaten the ashes it would have been more appetizing.

I am a foodie, in addition to this I was born and raised in Germany and graduated from Culinary School, just so you all know I am not just blowing hot air. I read the postings on Yelp before going to dinner and was skeptical since I have in all of the 40+ years I have spent in America always looked for and sometimes come close to the authentic taste of great German food. Bruno's tops it all, this place is the real thing, I was in German food heaven and so were my dinner companions. The place is small, but clean and cute, the service is efficient and friendly and the food is to die for. You guys in this area are so lucky to have Bruno's, I have to drive up from California to come and have dinner. I find the positive comments regarding this place most deserving and the negatives based on a lack of knowledge of this kind of food and somewhat unfair.

Ok, these portions for those prices? Amazing. Heidi the waitress? So sweet and friendly. The frikadeller? Tastes like coming home. Tucked away behind a Dreamgirls, Brunos is more than meets the eye. Friendly service, superior taste, and oh god those desserts. Wanna know what heaven tastes like? It's pronounced "pumpkin pecan cheesecake." Definitely coming back for lunch, when the prices are even more insanely low. 5.95?! Really, Brunos?!

I'm changing my review. I was impressed the first time. The goulash and red cabbage were great. The second time was gross. I ordered Chicken Cordon Bleu expecting the European style. I got the same Cordon Bleu that they sell in the freezer section of the grocery store with some sauce on top. Total rip off. the wine was good, as was the red cabbage. The rest was a thumbs down!

I'll keep this short and sweet: What other yelpers have said in the positive reviews about Bruno's European Cafe is 100% accurate. The food is authentic, service is friendly and competent, and the prices are better than reasonable. Most of my friends and colleagues, like me, have spent a considerable amount of time living in Europe. We crave great schnitzel and other German/European dishes on a regular basis. We all go to Bruno's in order to fully-satisfy those cravings.

My wife and I always enjoy trying restaurants that offer the cuisines of our German and Polish heritage, so we were very pleased to "discover" Bruno's European Café. I put "discovered" in quotes because our discovery came via Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, which recently visited this small spot off Highway 512 and Pacific Avenue in Tacoma. Service was great and the food was absolutely delicious! We had the Hangover soup featured on Triple D; the Polish platter (cabbage roll, Pierogi, Kielbasa, and mashed potatoes); and the Rouladen (beef rolls with bacon, onion, and pickles inside), with sides of red cabbage, and potato dumplings. Bruno's has a good selection of German, Polish, Slovak, Czech, and even Croatian beers, as well as wine by the glass, so we shared a 0.5-litre draft Staropramen beer from the Czech Republic. For more details, please visit my blog at TravelPro.us . We will definitely go back!

The Jaeger Schnitzel and Rouladen are not to be missed. Ditto the Rot Kraut and Spaetzle. A real surprise find. Smiles all around!

  • Dan D.

My wife and I went to Bruno's last night for dinner with a friend. My third or fourth time, her first. Previously, I had always had the Jaeger Schnitzel (which is awesome, btw), but I wanted to give the Zigeuner Schnitzel a try. Holy cow, it's wonderful. It's a tangy, peppery, happy plate of goodness. Our friend spent years in Germany in the Army, and he said his food (he's a Jaeger Schnitzel junkie) was 100% authentic. I might have seen a little tear in his eye, too. I recommend the red kraut and the spaetzle as sides, personally, but the wife had the white kraut, and it is also really good (cooked with bacon, I think). All sides are made onsite, according to the staff, so the kraut isn't coming from a big jar in the back. Speaking of, the staff is delightful, and the lady of the house even endured my high school German and gave me some tips. :) One thing for new folks, this place is often pretty full, so service might not be instant....but it's worth the wait! Highly recommended!!!! Looking forward to the next time we are out that way.

We forgot to make a reservation and showed up at lunch with a group of 10 people. We were embarrassed, but Bruno's didn't blink and opened up a table in their back room with a smile. Service was great and everyone was pleased with their meals. I had the sauerbraten (served Saturdays only) and it was terrific. I'm not well-versed in German and Polish food, but I loved my meal - especially the cucumber salad - and will surely go back.

Had been wanting to eat here since they moved. The place is run by Bruno and his family so don't expect zippy service during peak times. Nice atmosphere, great food, and warm smiles! Really good schnitzel like I remember from livimg in Germany.

This is a nice European (German and Polish) style restaurant with a clean and friendly atmosphere. Bruno and his wife are friendly and their staff is always polite. They have great food, good selection of beer and wine and some awesome tasting deserts (if you can fit them in your belly after the meal they serve you). Here is the problem: they are a young family owned business, they are looking at making a living and not expanding, they are used to the European style of eating which can take 3 hours, thus they are "on" some nights and "off" on others. They are sometime understaffed and other times just way too many people trying to get in to eat. If you have been to Europe you understand that this is how it is sometimes and you just order another beer and roll with it. I wouldn't go here for a first date because I know everything won't be perfect, but if you're looking for your oma to serve you a nice meal and have a friendly conversations with some truly amazing people then this is the place. Thank you Bruno, for bringing a piece of Europe to Parkland. By far the best German food in the area!

This is a great place! A tad rustic, like eating at gramma's. The food is terrific and portions are great. If you aren't starving with the appetite of Sasquatch, stick to the luncheon items! Still plenty of food.

What a surprising find! This spot is small and in a weird location. I was a bit hesitant when I first entered. Not very big and the décor is not all that great. But all of that was forgotten after eating here! I had the Polish Platter which comes with pierogis, sausage, cabbage roll and mash potatoes. The food was very fresh and unless you want to travel to Leavenworth or take a flight to Munich to sample some authentic European food, you are not going to find any better tasting food. Prices are a tad high, but you get what you pay for. I wish I could give 6 stars!

I had a very enjoyable lunch here while getting my vehicle's carpets shampooed down the street. I got the #1 lunch special, which was a delicate and tasty stuffed cabbage in a tomato sauce. The place is comfortable, and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. I look forward to exploring their menu further.

This place was just ok. It was typical middle euro food. I was impressed that they had staropramen, but the schnitzel was just ok. The black forest dessert was dry and nowhere near as good as others I have had. The beer got them the extra star.

My boyfriend had been talking about this place for months. We finally had dinner there in January and it was so good! I'm usually not a fan of German food as it can be kind of bland, I had the Schnitzel with red cabbage and it was very tasty. The price is very reasonable and the kitchen & wait staff (from Germany) are very funny. I can't wait to go back.

We had a foodie road trip and this was one of our stops. We tried the jäger schnitzel with kraut and potato dumplings, ham leg on the bone with cucumber salad german potato salad, the polish sausage plate finished up with a piece of apple strudel. Everything was excellent. The pirogues were the only thing that were just ok. Would go to again!!!

First, the food here is very good, affordable and the portions are just right, The Kielbasa is very good, probably the best I had in many years. We (four of us shared our orders) also had the Bruno's Schnitzel, Cabbage roll and Potato Pancakes (Latkes) which were all very good as well. The staff was wonderful, friendly and accommodating ... with that said however, the service here is slow. We were seated after a five minute wait, but then waited almost 15 minutes before our orders for our drinks and food was taken. The food was delivered within ten minutes, but then we had to wait about 10 minutes after we completed our meals for the bill. Overall, we were there for almost a hour and a half. I will admit though, they did get pretty busy after we were seated. There is a good selection of German and "the former eastern European block" beers as well as a small selection of domestic beer and wine. I had the half liter of Warsteiner Premium Dunkel, a hard to find Dark Lager Beer and it was as good as I remember when I was in Germany. During my visit, the noise level was very loud, there were two birthday parties going on, and both were playing a drinking game of sorts.

My wife is German and we have been looking for years to find a good German place on the east side of the Mountains for years, we finally found it with this place. Location: 3.5 Stars Located off 512 at the PLU exit, in behind a Frugal's Burgar-bin, and next to what used to be a strip club. (oh, my olde college days) There is this large metal blob stature in front of it and parking is on the northside of the place. The interior is small but cute. Two main eating areas, a nice glass dessert counter in the front, and cute girls in dredels serving beer St. Paule style. Decor is a mix of grandma meets Bavaria. Nothing special, but clean and cozy with dollies. Only downside I would say is that it is in Parkland, Tacoma and at night, one should avoid the area. Ambiance/Service: 4 Stars It does remind one of a Deuch cafe in Berlin. Small quint. A few college aged kids drinking pints of house beers, and families eating Spatzle. Despite being about 500 square feet per eating area, the tables are set in a way in which window seating is ample and there is not a lot of "walking" traffic once you get seated. Service was good. Loved the cute outfits the waitresses were wearing. Reminds me of Leavenworth, WA. Kind of on the quiet side, but did get your order and drinks ready in a quick manner. Food: 4.5 stars The menu is a mix of traditional German and Polish food. You had you usual German meats and sausages along with some good soups, dumplings, and desserts. I had some Jagersnitzel with potato dumplings, red cabbage. My wife had the Saurbratuan, with spatezl and cabbage. She also had a pickle soup, and I had the hangover soup. The schnitzel was a good portion of pork, very ample rich mushroom sauce. Breading was a tad softer than what I was used too, not mushy, but not crispy either, but the flavor was all there rich and earthy; like snails. The potato dumplings were good. Like Hinkelly, but softer and not too salty either. Cabbage was standard red cabbage. The Hangover soup was very good. I think it had headcheese in it, but I might be wrong, but a good assortment of meats and veggies in a rich broth. My wife's braten and spatzel were good. Both tender and expected. Her pickle soup was creamy and savory also. We had the capachino(sp) cake for dessert. Wow!!! The do not skimp on the coffee in it. It was like eating a mocca. So good and chocolaty, and coffee. = Good. Also good kid's menu with veal frankfuters, spatzel, and saurbraten. I will return. *update* I went back and tried a few other items and oddly, they did not make the grade. I had the "sausage platter" Came with Knackwrust, Bratwurst, and Italian Sausage, through the listing said Weisswrust, Bratwurst, and Bockwurst. Not bad, per se, but not what was listed on the menu description. My wife had their Polish platter with perogies, stuffed cabbage, and stuff, nothing special either. Coffee cake was still good. I will stick to the Schnitzel.

My mom is from southern Germany and we have visited there several times. Germany is one of my favorite places for a host if reasons, the food being one. Going to Bruno's was like visiting Germany again. Very authentic taste, not greasy, reminds me of our time in Germany. Very affordable beer and wine, great little atmosphere and good service by the owners granddaughter. Mixed sausage plate and the schnitzels are must try.

I'm from Mannheim, Germany and moved to Washington in 2007. I never thought that I would EVER find a good German restaurant but when my friend told me about Bruno's I really was a little hesitant thinking it was just going to be some ordinary food that didn't taste much like German food, but the place made me think of home no doubt. My Oma used to always cook for me but passed shortly after we came to America, so this was definitely the next best thing. The Jaegar Schnitzel with Spaetzel was incredibly delicious , and the people were so much fun to talk too! I love the atmosphere & will always be a loyal customer :)

Holy schnitzel! It's about time I've come across a little gem like Bruno's! Came here on the recommendation of a friend, and definitely left happy. Tucked on a side street just off of 512 (in a somewhat unsuspecting location) in the south end of Tacoma, Bruno's offers some seriously tasty German/Polish fare. I had the jagerschnitzel w/potato salad and red cabbage salad. The portions are just right, and the flavors spot on. Other things on the menu included such items as kielbasa, brats, meatloaf, along with some quality German/Polish beers to wash it down with. I should also mention that the food came out in a very timely manner, and the staff did a great job of checking up on us. Top notch, friendly service for sure! Only real downside to this spot is the somewhat limited hours (better for lunch/earlier dinners, closed Sundays), but hey, I'll definitely be back when I'm around the south end in the future! If you need your European comfort food fix, Bruno's is the ticket.

We were really looking forward to eating there tonight, so we made the special trip. We arrived at 5:45 and waited about three minutes to be seated, not bad. We got a really tiny table, but the place was busy, so we were ok with that. We got our menus and glasses of water. That was the last time any of the wait staff would acknowledge our presence. We made our choices quickly and waited for someone to take our order. Two other tables were seated and they got their drinks orders immediately. Our little table was not hidden in a corner, in fact it was exactly on wait staff traffic area. We waited. And waited. Seeing how other tables had arrived after us were placing their orders. We waited. Until we decided it didn't make sense to be ignored for a full half hour, so we left. We told the waitress who seated us why we were leaving and she said she was sorry. That was it. She didn't ask us to stay, she didn't try to remedy the situation in any way. It was upsetting. We believe at least three new tables were being helped by the time we left. :-( UPDATE: We will go back in the near future and hope for a better experience. we will post a review on food and service when that happens. maybe tonight was just bad luck.

Stopped in here after seeing it on Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives. Overall a pretty good experience. The building itself could use a little TLC, including the décor. But the food was pretty good. Clearly the staff consisted of the owner and his wife, and they were quickly overwhelmed when it got busy. But both were very nice. The deserts are pretty awesome as well. Worth stopping in for sure.

Today my wife, son and I dined here 14 March 2012. Mined you this is my first time here. The parking there is very small so good luck with a long with a long vehicle. When you enter the place it's a small hole in the way restaurant Today I was a little peeved and let me tell you why. Today there was only 1 waitress and she was on you her stuff. So good for her. As soon as we got settle a group of folks came in and was told that today they had a reservation for number of people and guess who had to move. Well, we didn't get food just drinks so I was OK, cool we'll move nothing to it right. My wife ordered goulash soup and kielbasa plate with German potatoes and sauerkraut and she was over all the dish pretty decent. I order cabbage soup and the Frikadellen with mash potatoes and sauerkraut. Over all good experience I would go again.

Want Eastern European? Look no further. Authentic, home grown goodness. The food cannot be better. The service is rapid, attentive and cheerful. They put the food out pretty darn fast during lunch and it's as good as it gets with dishes like rouladen, schnitzels, and you really must try the "hangover soup". It is arguably the best home made soup I have ever consumed.

I worked there for about a month and had a chance to try just about the whole menu... Bruno and Krystyna are amazing people and their granddaughter Kasia is one of the main waitresses there, is the best waitress ever! Everything is absolutley amazing... I love the german potato salad and the cucumber salad... The beef goulash is so delicious and so is the rouladen... the hangover soup is light and creamy but packed with bacon ham and veggies... mmm the goulash soup is so good more of a beef based soup also full of veggies an mushrooms!! The polish sausauge is the best I have ever had anywhere!! Do your self a favor and stop by their new place at: 10716 A St S # 1, Tacoma, WA 98444 You wont regret it!! Rose :)

The schnitzel is perfect! This is a small restaurant with few employees, so the wait can be long at times...but well worth it! Authentic food. I have been several times and plan to keep on going!

If you eat beef, chicken, or pork then this is the place to go. I however do not eat beef, chicken, or pork so I was faced with only 2 options: the potato latkes or the sour cream herring salad. I was feeling pretty adventurous and I went with the herring salad because I have never tried herring before let alone herring made with sour cream, onions, and apples. It was superb! All of the flavors really came together to make a delicious salad that leaves a pleasant lingering taste in your mouth. For dessert, I tried the honey cake and was yet again pleased with my self. Way to go Carrie!

I lived in southern Germany for two years while stationed there with the U.S. Army, and came to love the hearty foods and gravies. Bruno's is as good as anywhere else I've been in the states to replicating the real stuff from little places in that region. Nothing super fancy, just solid, homemade, down to earth, really good food: schnitzel, spatzle, sausage, cabbage rolls, red cabbage, sauerkraut, pierogis, goulash soup....downhome stuff that's worth the trip. Think European comfort food. Great on a drizzly fall or winter day, especially.

Decent food, great prices. I lived in Germany for six years, and was pleased with the quality of the food at Bruno's. Heck, the brotchen alone was worthwhile, and the bratwurst was delicious. I'm definitely going back again soon to have some of their cabbage roll. They are now open in their new location at: 10716 A Street S Tacoma, WA 98444 Right off of 512.

When we walked in there was a smiley and talented accordion player. Bonus! We had reservations for 6 and they were packed -- tables filled with families & couples happily waiting for their German/Polish cuisine. I happen to be both German & Polish. Our table ordered a wide selection from the menu and everything was incredible. One of the owners, Kristina, came to our table and thanked us for our patience, but our order had been taken within 5 minutes of being seated and our waitress was really on top of it. The Saurbraten was HEAVENLY, to say the least, and all of the sides were tasty, fresh and delivered hot. The restaurant itself is tucked away behind Frugals. It's darling, cozy, and very clean. We will be making this a regular dinner outing. Mmmmmmmmmmm

Excellent food and service. The jäger schnitzel was delicious, my daughter loved their meatloaf, my sons loved their frankfurters, my dad loved their mixed wursts plate with sour kraut my sister loved the cabbage rolls and my niece enjoyed the schnitzel sandwich. Can't wait to go back with my wife.

I had been wanting to try out this restaurant since reading the review in the TNT a few months ago. Last Saturday seemed like a good day to go since it was rainy and comfort food sounded nice. The hubs and I were SO happy we went. When you see the little building on the side of the road it doesn't seem like much, but the second you walk in you are greeted by Kristina, smiling and and welcoming you to sit down. Keep in mind there are only four tables, and I hear it gets very busy during week day lunches, but we were the only folks in there on Saturday at noon. Kristina explained the specials and soups of the day and we ordered. We both got the Hangover Soup, which seemed to live up to its name. It was a slightly creamy broth loaded with lots of veggies, sausage, and a couple of other smokey meats. It came with a big roll which was nice and soft on the inside and chewy on the outside, perfect for dipping in the soup. I had the Jaeger Schnitzel; a thin pork cutlet breaded and fried, and covered in gravy. The cutlet was very moist and tender, but had a nice crust on it. It was also about 10' in diameter. The gravy was so good; lots of mushrooms and onions and very flavorful without being too salty. I got the spatzle and sauerkraut as my sides and they went great when I was able to get both plus the cutlet and gravy on my fork. I also had enough left over for a snack later. The hubs got the meat and potato pancakes. They came with big hunks of what I think was pork and veggies inside. They were covered with a rich tomato sauce and sour cream. I of course took a bite and was really happy with it. The bill came to $28 for lunch, not bad considering it was two huge entrees, two soups with rolls and a soda. AND where else can you get made-from scratch German home cookin' in a place that feels like someone's living room? We will absolutely be going back to try the other stuff on the menu. They also have a weekday lunch special for $6.00 where you get to choose one of three meals, and it includes potato salad, soup, and a roll. What a great deal! NOTE: They DO NOT take cards. You must pay in cash. Their hours are 11am to 8pm Tuesday-Saturday. Also, they are happy to do take out. Do yourself a favor and go to Bruno's!

Great service, home cooked meal! Driving from Seattle to Portland stuck in traffic, we all got hungry. Found this gem randomly on Yelp as one of the closest restaurants to I5. Didn't have much of expectations since it only had a few reviews. However, I had the gypsy schtnzl and a cup of hangover soup... Both were really good. Hangover soup was especially tasty. Bruno was a great guy to hang out with, we had a great time.

The food was excellent, and brought back pleasant memories of the three years we spent in Fulda, Germany. We arrived at a busy time with only one person to hostess and waitress the entire restaurant. Chef Bruno came out and helped a few times. The Jaegerschnitzel was very good. I chose the spaetzel and sauerkraut to go with mine, along with a light pilsner beer. No complaints about the food.

I love BRUNO'S!, It's a cute little european restaurant off 107th/Pacific Ave/A St.. They make you feel right at home the moment you walk in the door. I love the schnitzel and my grandaughter loves the meatloaf and cucumber salad. The desserts are mouth watering and lite. Okay, I'm getting hungry thinking about it. We go often and we love the food and the prices are great/affordable. WE LOVE IT!

Having lived in Germany for 10 years when I was younger, I searched out a restaurant where I could have a good authentic Jagerschnitzel. Bruno was not it. When the food came, it was not what I expected. I ended up ordering a plain schnitzel and scraping the mushroom gravy off. After some salt it was good, but overall, just okay!

I am simply befuddle that one of the reviews is rating Bruno's at one star, I grew up on German food, my mom is full blooded German and has worked at Hess's deli for twenty plus years so she knows something about German food. She has known Bruno for awhile and knows that the food is hand made, which does take time, effort and care. And the rest of the reviews attest to that. We did a take out order from them, it took me fifteen to twenty minutes to get there and the same to get home. When I got home the food was still on the hot side. I had the snitzel, with the saurkraut and spetzle, if wasn't my mom's cooking. But you'll hear no complaints from me it was as good as I ever ate in a restaurant in Germany. The snitzel was tender and juicy, plus a large piece of meat at that. My spetzle were probably cooked earlier in the day, but hey, it's a restaurant, they can't make everything from scratch as the order comes in (no doubt the snitzel was made fresh when ordered.). I am really picky about my saurkraut, it usually has to strong of a vinegar taste (growing up on cucumber salad, I just have outgrown strong vinegar taste),(no offense mom), I was pleasantly surprised with the saurkraut though just a light vinegary taste. All in all, I was uber satisfied. :)

I was truly disappointed in the quality of the food. I had the Polish Platter and my husband had Bruno's Schnitzel. The beef pierogi was dry and chewy, the potato pierogi was soggy and tasteless.and the schnitzel was just a piece of breaded pork. It cost $2.50 for a CAN of warm soda. The amount of the puréed potatoes was about a fourth of a cup and the kielbasa was as dry and tough as a rubber hose. I will never go back and I advise you not to bother going to Bruno's.

LOVE Bruno's! Coming from a Polish family, I can attest that the food is very authentic and you'll think you're over at Babcia and Dziadek's for lunch or dinner. I always have the cabbage rolls, pick le soup and pierogis if available. They also now serve delicious cakes that are baked locally and are to die for as well. I personally loved the toasted almond cake (very close to German bienenstich) and fruit torte. Always a family favorite and the owners are personable and usually will visit with each table.

This restaurant has moved to 10716 A St. S., Tacoma with a beer garden soon to open. I can't wait to get over there. Phone# 253-719-7181. This is a family run restaurant where you will be treated as though you were sitting down in someones home for dinner. A small menu where the food is made from scratch with love and care. The owners roan the small dining room [when not cooking] and really seem to care how your experience was. Bruno's is very friendly and has something sadly missed in American dining, Real Passion and a love for what their doing.

You can count on one hand the number of times I've tried European food. And while certainly not being an expert, I know when something tastes good and everything I've ordered here does without exception. No tastebud gets ignored. Sweet, sour, salt and, yes, embrace the bitter. I'm just happy its in close proximity to my house.

This place is incredible. I could not imagine a better German/Polish home-style kitchen for this price, hence the 5 stars. The hangover soup was absolutely delicious and I was served a succulent pork hock the size of my head. My friends went with a variety of schnitzels that tasted excellent. You can tell this food is not only homemade but made with love. Bruno and his wife have themselves a great restaurant. Cannot wait to go back.

So right off, the decor is fairly cheesy, and the waitresses outfit borders on stereotypes for German/Austrian costumes. I lived in Germany for 3 years and was excited to go to this place when I heard about it. Price for food ratio sucked, and sides were slim pickings and not as common of side as you would think. The food was very bland, but edible. The best thing we ordered "flavor and authenticity wise" was the Jager Schnitzel. The cordon bleu however was pretty much straight out of the freezer section of the grocery store. Yes, I do like that frozen slab of chicken at the store but when I go to a German restaurant and pay 12 dollars for a meal I expect more than the 2.00 cordon bleu from the store. If you have never been to Germany then you may enjoy this place more than I did because I held a certain standard for my meal. Just FYI real European cordon bleu is amazing- beaten thinly like schnitzel with the same crispy breading a thinly sliced ham and plenty of swiss cheese stuffed in the middle. Usually served with lemons, and french fries..aka..pommes frites! Which they don't even have on their menu!

This place is amazing. As a Polish-American girl that grew up in Michigan, I ve always looked for a place that comes close to the food I grew up on. Not too many Poles in this part of the country. The food here blew me away--just like home. Much better than even the Polish Home in Seattle. Dare I say, the pierogies are even better than my grandma s? I ordered another plate to take home! I will be a regular, for sure!

I have been wanting to try Bruno's for a while and especially after reading the reviews on Yelp. My fiance and I along with another couple decided to go for my fiance's B-Day celebration. We went in at 7 pm and were promptly seated. The place was about half full. There were two waitresses and a bus boy. A party of one and a party of two came in about 3 minutes after we were seated. After 5 minutes we were ready to order. We then noticed the two parties that came in after us were getting their orders taken. No one to our table as yet. A party of about 6 were seated behind us. We were there 15 minutes at this point. After another 5 minutes goes by, the waitress comes to take the party seated behind us their order. At this point we stood up and when the waitress noticed this, she runs over and said she was just going to come take our order. Really? From the other side of the table behind us? I don't mind waiting for a good meal to be prepared, but I for one, will not spend my money in an establishment that exhibits very poor customer service. At least an acknowledgment that we were there and someone will be with us shortly or drink orders taken first, anything than being ignored or forgotten about. Or, instead of having the waitresses bus some tables that we watched them do while we were waiting for our order to be taken, maybe train the busboy to actually do this so the waitresses can take care of customers. This was really too bad cause we were really looking forward to this. Oh, and I had been a waitress back in my day in a much busier family owned resteraunt so I do know what I am talking about.

I called today to Bruno's, because I wanted to try their food, and wanted to know if they were still in Lakewood. I read a previous review about Bruno moving to another location. The nice lady that answer the phone let me know that they are in the process of moving and to check in about 10 days to see if the restaurant is all set. They are not open right now in either location. I've read the good reviews, and since I did not try yet and have to rate the restaurant, for now I will just give two stars. two stars for me equals to "have not try it yet", and because person on the phone was nice.
