I love Alfred's. The bloody marys are strong, the servings large and the waitstaff friendly. My boyfriend likes the wide variety of sports that are always playing on the screens. I like the Monte Cristo on the menu, especially with their perfect (and I mean PERFECT) shoestring fries. Their California Benedict comes with healthy servings of Avocado, and I always take some home.

Alfred's cafe is a great place to stop if your getting off the train and waiting for your ride to pick you up. It's within easy walking distance of the Amtrak station, plus they have good food, friendly staff and a full bar. The restaurant has a 50's diner feel to it, and the bar is one of those old wooden bars with carved motifs and a mirrored back. With 20 beers on tap, you're sure to find something you'll like. My personal favorite is the Scrimshaw Pilsner, which I have yet to find on tap anywhere else. It's a sweeter Pilsner with a hint of honey. And did I mention breakfast is served all day? Nothing like having a breakfast burrito and a beer at 4 in the afternoon. Had the chicken tacos today, and while they weren't my favorite, everything else I've had had been good.

IT has been many years since I'e been to this venerable breakfast lunch spot in the shadow of the Tacoma dome. I love the large old growth timber building, classic Tacoma style. And like the building, my sturdy omelet was really good, as were the has browns. Nothing here is imagantive, its "just breakfast" but well done. The servers were nice...but one thing bugs me...really bugs me..they have committed architectural felonies to this gem. Horrible tile int he lobby and up the walls,.incongruous to,the era..and then there's an unused weird ass diner concept in the left vestibule. This needs to striped down and I,proved. For pointers, they should visit Crockett's in Puyallup simple traditional , comfortable, true. Don't get cute with a venerable old timeless building. Lastly the upstairs here I unused and wasted. Sad really.

I've been told that this place is a great place for breakfast and drinks, so I finally decided to give it a go. I'm not exactly sure if perhaps they were short staffed but it took 10 minutes sitting at the bar before I was finally acknowledged. The bar top wasn't busy, just so you know. I wasn't greeted in a friendly manner, menu slapped on the counter in front of me and "yeah what can I get ya?" Order a spicy Bloody Mary, wasn't at all spicy. Took another 15 minutes to get my order taken, and when the food finally came my eggs were overcooked, sliding off the plate and hash browns burnt to a crisp. Don't know if I will give this place a second chance.

One if my favorite breakfast places to go to after work. I have only ever had breakfast food here, but there is a lunch menu with sandwiches and other items. I like the typical eggs and bacon breakfast or I also really like the French toast. The food usually comes out fast. They also have really good drinks that are usually pretty strong. I like a mimosa or a Mai Tai with breakfast. If you're looking for a good breakfast stop, this would be it.

Went here with a friend for Sunday Brunch. The parking lot was filled, which was good. I ordered the Santa Fe Burrito, to die for! Mimosas next time!!

First time here, stopped for a late breakfast. The food is actually really good..,we ordered the Meat Lovers Benedict and the Chicken Fried steak...both were great! Along with breakfast we ordered two Bloody Mary's...they were both made strong(almost to much so) but they really weren't anything super special...until we got the check WOW!! The price was the only thing special about them! I've never paid so much for so little...so steer clear of the afternoon drinks when your here

Super friendly folks. I feel so welcomed here!! From the first step through the door we were welcomed by a waitress walking by, the bartender shouted hello as he poured drinks, another waiter smiled as said hi as he bused a table and another as we got sat. Overwhelmed by the friendliness and struck with hunger - we quickly sat and looked over the menu. Pretty typical Cafe/Diner style menu/foods - we were so hungry though that everything sounded delicious. After serious debate and coin flipping - and a little help from the waitress we ended up with the following: Meatloaf - I cannot say I'm a fan. It was a bit dry and overly herb'd for my liking. I like mine moist and slathered in bbq sauce. It wasn't horrible per say - but definitely not my cup of tea. French Dip w/ fries - my buddy ordered this and loved the dip. great au jus and perfectly toasted bread was what he told me (i don't like it) but the FRIES. They were so good they could have been magical. It's McDonald's sized and just the perfect amount of salt and crispiness. We doused it in ranch and ketchup and grinded away - when they were all gone we ordered another order to go so we can eat at home but they never made it home cuz we finished it on the spot. Monte Cristo - yummmmm.... it's always hard to find a good one. but when you do... piled high with flavors, perfect cooked. There are some foods you simple cannot put into words - you just got to put it in your mouth and let the food do the talking. And let me tell you that this sandwich was speakin to me! Crab omelette - I was a bit skeptical when I ordered this as crab and a diner/cafe is usually a no no. for reasons of freshness and/or reasons of lack of crab. But this omelette did NOT disappoint. It blew me away. Huge chunks of dungeness crab throughout every bite. The hollandaise sauce on top was perfectly poured to balance out the rest of the flavors and the potato bites finished off the dish nicely adding great texture. I love this place. Never knew it existed - but you bet i'll be back for more!

Between the bubble room, the Chicken Fried Steak, the big mimosas, and the excellent service- Alfred's has become my go-to breakfast spot in Tacoma. There's something wonderful about rocking up to get "breakfast" or "brunch" at 2pm, and while the atmosphere definitely wouldn't be considering anything close to high tea- it all adds to the charm of this place. Love you, Alfred's!

Good breakfast...LOVE eggs Benny! and they specialize in it, a little pricey for Bfast but Great food. OH-N they have TV!! I havent watched CNN in ages!

Food and service are pretty good. Had a chance to eat here several times in last 30 days. Afternoons mainly. Lunch and breakfast are pretty good.

Flew in from San Diego and looked up on yelp for breakfast, and are we glad we did. I had the chicken fried steak and they had the biscuits and gravy. The portions are huge and April our server was amazing, came out fast she was always there. Can't say enough good things. Only con is the parking. But the food is amazing..

05 Jul 2014, 11:00a We were staying with a friend while visiting Tacoma and he brought us to Alfred's for brunch. We were thinking it might be crowded at 11a, but there were plenty of tables in the bar area and the restaurant tables in the back were even more plentiful. We sat at a bar table and ordered: Meat Lover's Benedict Chicken Fried Steak Our friend ordered his CFS with over-easy eggs, hubby ordered his with over-hard eggs and both hubby and I ordered our hashbrowns extra crispy. The hashbrowns arrived as ordered, but hubby's eggs were over-easy and my eggs (on a benedict, mind you) had soft, but not runny yolks. My benedict, otherwise, was very tasty. The bacon and sausage were great and there was PLENTY of food. Other than my eggs not being runny, it was a perfect entree. Hubby enjoyed his CFS, but would have been happier if his eggs has been over-hard as ordered. Our friend is a regular and his food arrived just as he had ordered, so he was a happy camper. Portions are plentiful and the prices are reasonable. Contrary to prior reviews, however, service was great! Perhaps the service was not as good in the restaurant area, but the bar area, even though somewhat busy, was certainly not lacking in attention from staff. I'd go back!

The yummiest eggs Benedict I've ever had!! Great place. Friendly service. I'm definitely coming back!

  • Jenny R.

I'd never been here until recently. I got the monte cristo which was yummy. Loved their French fries. My husband got the burger and loved it equally!!!

  • Kirk Z.

I really loved this place! I had bacon and eggs and blueberry pancakes. Eggs were poached perfectly, pepper bacon was thick and delicious. They substituted the blueberry pancakes for hash browns and toast without hesitation. Real fresh blueberries! The waitress was outstanding! I would come back, but it is a little bit of a drive from Weatherford, TX :)

    (5)
  • Lauren S.

Waitress was friendly and prompt, they have parking and food was delicious I cleared the plate. They even special made me fry sauce and give you a chocolate mint with your bill. I'll be back!

  • Kyle B.

Went here the first time this morning for breakfast and it was nothing but GREAT! I had the meat lovers omelet and my girlfriend had the meat lovers Benedict and both with amazing! Not greasy at all. The male server was very attentive. This will definitely be our go to for breakfast.

Feeling so excited that we found Alfred's Cafe! We used the Yelp reviews to find/choose this spot, and it seriously delivered. Strong cocktails, delicious brunch, super friendly service and honestly some of out favorite music on the sound system throughout our meal. My husband had a heavy handed Bloody Mary and 2 egg breakfast with bacon. I tore up the Monte Cristo and a mimosa, loved it! We may come back for brunch again tomorrow while we're in the area ;). I would have put 5 stars, but Yelp red flags it.

  • Heather E.

Absolutely the worst breakfast joint ever! When we arrived to this tiny place, no tables were clean, and we were told to sit wherever. It took the server forever to clean our table, and then we were given dirty silverware... I'm talking about CHUNKS of food on the utensils, people!! The person who recommended this to us obviously hasn't been here in a while... because it was NOTHING like mentioned. This place was compared to Carrs in that customers are given large amounts of food... Umm the hashbrowns were flat and overcooked... To add to the "superb" experience, we never once received a refill on our coffee, and we were there for at least an hour. Also, the TVs were SO LOUD that I couldn't even have a conversation with the person in front of me. Avoid this place if you're looking for a great food, cleanliness, and friendly staff... because you won't find it at Alfred's.

    (1)
  • Nick S.

Bring your appetite portions are huge, and delicious I probably should have stopped eating sooner but the food was just too good to stop! Highly recommend Alfreds

    (4)
  • LeDonna B.

Stopped here for brunch after a friend recommended it. Had the chicken fried steak and the husband had biscuits and gravy. The gravy was a little different then most places but both dishes were great. We received excellent service and we received our food really quick.

I LOVE THIS DINER. On my first trip to Tacoma my friend asked me to hit up this cute little diner and it was totally worth it! They have a great atmosphere and this place is the BOMB for people watching. All sorts of life eat at this place. The breakfast is amazing, especially the eggs and bacon, which in my mind can be screwed up SO easily. The bacon is peppered and delicious. They are also very generous with their coffee which I am all about. If ever in Tacoma and needing some good food definitely check this place out.

  • Richard H.

I remember coming here waiting for the bus after Tacoma Stars games when I rode the bus to Fife after the games, went here recently and they made a lot of improvements, not sure I like the mirrors all around the walls though lol, they could take that part down and put up a nice wall paper instead and that would be a improvement IMO, but that being said, the food has improved greatly and is pretty good and the servers here are fantastic!

    (4)
  • Erin H.

I cannot currently attest to the food as we only had drinks. But I can tell you that the menu looked good, the service was great and very promt/friendly. The decor and ambiance made the place feel like a fun place to be. I will definitly be back to try some food! There are pictures of the menu if you are curious what they're serving.

    (4)
  • Mike L.

Not a cheap place, but food is good. Club sand which had stale bread which was disappointing considering the cost. Location allows for very colorful clientele in the bar.

    (4)
  • Caron H.

Ok food, nothing special for the price. No better than a Dennys. Decor is weird, one side looks like a pub, the other is a retro diner??

    (2)
  • ChiKurt S.

My 3rd time here for breakfast. The food is on the level of a Dennys with larger portions, and even less flavor. Had a flavorless country benedict buried under canned "sausage" gravy and frozen Dennys hash browns. and it was $11. We also had the Corned beef hash which was little more than frozen Dennys hash browns with some diced corned beef added to it $10. The fact that they screwed up cooking the eggs could happen in any kitchen, but how on earth can you care so little as to not be willing to add some onions, peppers, maybe some dried oregano? ANY FLAVOR WHATSOEVER? to what you cook? Im willing to pay well for great food, and Im willing to eat mediocre food for cheap but this was insulting.

Great atmosphere, and 5 tvs to watch your favorite game. Mahi Mahi fish tacos are excellent.

  • Chris W.

We like this place...but, not as much as we thought we did....we keep going back it seems for breakfast. Steak and eggs. Pretty good place to go if you want a drink with your breakfast...bar is right there for you...and some of the locals are pretty entertaining. Decent but, twice now, I've said..."this isn't as good as I remember". Huh, I'm sure we'll wind up here again in another 6 months.

We were going to a show at the T-Dome and needed a place to eat, and we settled on Alfred's as being close and open (not much of a choosing method, I know, lol). I'm so glad that we did! Our server was wonderful and she definitely earned her tip with above average service and being attentive without being pushy. We were uncertain about where to sit at first but were greeted within a few moments of walking through the door. The chicken garlic pizza was GREAT and the spaghetti was pretty decent. They also have Guinness on tap- a big plus! Overall, we'd recommend Alfred's to anyone.

  • Jaime V.

Its not a dive.....really. ive driven by the place many many times. All i saw was "the bubble room" and figured it wasnt for me. I came in one day fully expecting a 10 am alcholica dive. So i was surprised to find within a nice place

    (4)
  • Hearse t.

A nice Dive with great atmosphere, in the heart of downtown Tacome, you definately see some characters here, the interesting thing about this place is the fact that one forth of it is a 50s diner and the rest is an elegant dimly lit lounge ( all with a nice amount of Crust) the toast factor alone is worth it.

    (4)
  • Jeremy G.

I wish Yelp had half starts. I'd give Alfred's a 2.5. A friend said this place has good breakfast food. I had the breakfast sandwich which was eh. Service was eh. The ambiance in the cafe dining section is really cool though. I'll definitely go back and give the food one more chance.

    (3)
  • Gloria M.

Solid diner food, although I've only been there for breakfast (and given the lack of other breakfast options, I'll happily go back). Pancakes are huge, bacon is peppered and everything else is quite as you would expect it to be for a pretty good diner. The coffee wasn't so good, but the staff was very friendly and attentive.

    (4)
  • Bryan Z.

Staff was super friendly and responsive. Omelettes were delish! Portions were huge including lots of sides. It is an All-American diner!

    (4)
  • Greg W.

Service was slow. Pancake was a bit burnt. Eggs tasted bad. No A/C. Coke was weak and didn't taste good. I don't think I'll be back.

    (1)
  • Rose M.

Had lunch there yesterday and ordered the chili burger. It was really bland with nothing but beans in the chili. My husband ordered the cuban sandwich, had very little meat on the sandwich. Sandwiches were over $10 each not worth it. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

    (1)
  • J T.

One of Tacomas' best kept secrets. The calzones are great and really huge. The club sandwich is very satisfying as well. You should definitely order the chips as a side, they're great and unique to this place. I never tried the breakfast menu. There are lots of nice beers on draft, too. A great improvement. If you want someplace to eat after shooting a few targets next door, it's a no-brainer.

  • Nancy B.

I was really hoping to offset the bad reviews for this place but i just couldnt do it. We stopped here right before the Taylor Swift concert (me and my husband), the service was good but the place itself was horrible. It was trying to be a 50's diner theme but really failed. My legs hurt the entire time fromt he horrible stools that were back to back with the person behind me. I was forced to stare at myself and everybody else in the mirrors surronding the entire room because there was nothing else to look at.. The kitchen is right there in the dining are. My husband figured he could get a milkshake in this "50's diner" but they didnt have any. Coleslaw tasted like shampoo, Fish was fine but really hard and small portions, fries tasted a day old... my husbands beer arrived in a plastic cup (super tacky)... we most definitley would never go back unless they did a major remodel. We felt really uncomfortable there.

Check out Alfred's for breakfast. Good diner food. Unique atmosphere. Near the Tacoma Dome. Great service on the morning we were there.

    (3)
  • Meegan N.

We ate here prior to the Bon Jovi concert tonight! Service was excellent - unbelievably excellent considering it was packed! Prefer the Ruben (best bread I've ever had with all the rubins I've ever eaten) the coleslaw was outstanding too and a chicken Cobb salad which was huge. Wine pore was on the empty side and they should have been a little more generous for $6 a glass. But heck other than that I would totally recommend it! Heard their breakfasts are outstanding too! So definitely a great ore-concert stop!

    (3)
  • Ruth W.

The main problem was the service. Our server was more interested in chatting it up with her co workers than attending to her guests. My friend had a question as to why her chips were cold and tasted a bit stale, also the burger was smaller than usual. Instead of listening and attempting to set things right, she offered to put another order of chips under a heat lamp......her attitude got worse the more she talked and when my friend finally asked for the manager she very rudely stated that she was sorry my friends patience was thin ............very rude thing to say to a customer.

    (2)
  • David B.

I stopped by for breakfast and was floored! The Spicy Breakfast Burrito was awesome. The service was quick and prompt. I will return. A side note for history buffs: This place use to be a brothel and is rumored to be haunted with strange (but harmless!) activity at night.

The BEST reuben I've ever had in a restaurant/bar... the waitresses are cute too. Good service everytime;-)

    (4)
  • L. L.

I gave it 4 stars because I am a local and this is a local bar. Pizza's and happy hr is great. Staff is great. I would not call it a dive because its an upgrade from that description it is casual. It is a friendly place and ask your server for recommendations.

I was waiting for the 3:05 train and decided on Alfreds for lunch & to kill a little time. When I walk into a food establishment, I expect to be greeted at the door if I have to wait to be seated. Instead, I had to walk halfway through the restaurant in hopes I would be seen. Why is it that servers can't figure out that you might want a table that's a little more private when there's plenty of seating available? Decor is weird and seems out of place with black lacquer chairs in the middle of a pub atmosphere. I need wood people! The food is mediocre at best. Nothing special about the omelet or the fried potatoes. I certainly wouldn't write home about it. I have to admit, the server was cute, friendly, and went out of her way to accommodate my request for a to-go menu for the folks at the train station. For that, a better tip. If she had immediately led me to the private table, would have been even better for her. I might be back next time I'm passing through.

Diner feel - food was so-so. We probably won't be back.

  • Mike H.

My wife and I went here before going shooting a while ago and it was a joke. When we got our food, which took a really long time, my order was wrong. I was going to just go with what I got, which is what I should have done, but the waitress realized it was wrong as soon as she walked away. She said she would bring the right order out in a few minutes and when it came back the hash browns weren't even done, they were actually still cold in the middle. Even the scrambled eggs weren't done all the way. I figured at this point I would chalk it up as a loss, eat what I could and go shoot some guns. the only reason I gave two stars is that the waitress was very friendly and apologetic over the order screw up. I seriously doubt there will be a return trip.

  • Sandor W.

I posted this elsewhere too, felt compelled to let as many people know just how bad this place was. If I could give it "0" stars I would. Never had such terrible service, and management couldn't care less. Would not go back if you paid me to. Food was so-so, but the attitudes we got from the trailer trash waitresses was simply too much. Probably seems good to the monster truck crowd, but this place makes Denny's look like The French Laundry (one of the best places on the West Coast, for those of you who work at Alfred's). Steer clear of this hole. Seriously. There are other places within a few blocks that I've been to and they are all way better (not good, mind you, just not crappy). Everyone in our group had the same opinion, and we had a great time once we left.

Diner that flies under the radar by the Dome. Nothing to knock your socks off over, but it won't kill you either. Nice variety of beer on tap.

The service and atmosphere were amazing. I couldn't find oatmeal on the menu and when I asked the server she not only confirmed that it was available, but offered it with some fresh blueberries. 2 minutes later it arrived. Cool, clean, and comfortable spot. Thank you!

I ate dinner at "Alfred's Cafe" in Tacoma, WA on 8/19/2012. It was my first time there. I went there after the baseball game at Cheney Stadium on a Sunday. Dispite the unusual time the place was still fairly busy. My server, Olivia, was exceptional. She did everything but the cooking. My spaghetti dinner (with two slices of garlic toast) was $11.99. I added a Shirley Temple for $2.63. Both were good. Olivia told me that breakfast is their busiest time here. She also gave me a small Ovation chocolate candy after my meal. I would like to try their breakfast sometime.

Ok so my wife and I have eaten here lets say 20 times in the past 4 years. New Years Morning Breakfast. My wife orders different most of the time but I order the same EVER time and it seems to us that the last 3 or 4 times its just hit or miss and today was a miss on the taste of the food. Not sure if we are coming back we liked the place but inconsistency is a big problem. I like to know that I can get the same thing over and over.

I've gone to Alfred's a few times for breakfast. Once I had the chicken fried steak and it was just ok, with a good helping of decently done hashbrowns. The next time, a pretty good, but nothing remarkable omlet. Service was always good, the place was always about 1/4 full in the bar area. Either way, it's a good location for when we're in Tacoma visiting and we like the ambiance. Jan 1, 2011. The place was PACKED. I'm sure most people were hungover, myself included. We had the nicest server who still managed to be attentive despite running between so many tables and being so little our table came up to her shoulder. I still don't know how she got our food--the counter has got to be above her head. Anyway, I ordered chicken fried steak and it was better than I've ever had anywhere. I'll keep going back just on the off chance it ever turns out like that again.

Party of six dropped in on Christmas Eve to check it out. Portions are big. Food is just OK. Prices OK. Decor is odd. Service just OK. Probably won't be back.

  • Alex C.

Far, far too expensive. 11.75 for a Reuben sandwich. The "side" of coleslaw was in a teeny tiny, ketchup sauce bowl and tasted old. This place needs some compettion in the immediate neighborhood to smarten them up. Never Again. DO YOU UNDERSTAND? Try the Poodle Dog which is over in Fife.

  • Marie B.

We have gone and met friends a few times, we no longer order food, just drinks. Multiple times the waitresses have not gotten the orders correct, food was missing flavor. The fries have been over salted, the burger was overdone (asked rare). The one time I ordered dessert, anyone could have bit into the brownie and new it was microwaved... the environment however is cozy and enjoyable and has a great way of absorbing extra sound, so you can always hear the people next to you.

Came here on a lazy rainy Sunday morning for breakfast. The place was pretty full, so we decided to sit at the bar. Even though it took a couple minutes to clear what was in front of us, the service otherwise was quite good, even though they were pretty busy. Our waitress smiled and checked in on us every now and then. Place was pretty clean and I like the section across the way that looked like a 50's diner. Unfortunately, this section was closed. Would have been fun to sit over there though!! Food was pretty good. I had the Western Omelets which came with toast and either potatoes or hash browns and he had the steak and eggs scramble skillet. Although, I kind of wish I would have ordered the biscuits and gravy, after seeing it delivered to another table. Looked GOOD! Total for breakfast for two with coffee and tea... $22. Not bad.

We were in town to visit the Museum of Glass, and stopped in for breakfast. Eclectic decor and solid breakfast fare. The potatoes O'Brien were crispy and well-seasoned, and the Iron Maiden omelet (yes, I chose it because of the name) was really good - full of bacony goodness. Good coffee, friendly waitress - no complaints.

Stopped by for dinner on our way to Oly on Friday night. Not super crowded at around 6. Meg ordered a medium rare New York steak and got a very well done steak that was not a NY. It looked like it has sat around in a tray of broth or something like they do with hot dogs or burgers. I got a blue cheese burger which was OK. Just a thin Costco patty with blue cheese dressing. I ordered coleslaw with it but instead I got French Fries. I didn't say anything because I secretly wanted fries( I am trying to stop eating fries) Friendly service and kind of a cool old time bar keeps it from getting just 1 star. I'd like to try breakfast here. I expected this to be a cool find so I want to give it another try. Breakfast can be a different story.... There was another dining room? on the left when you go in that looks like a 50's diner. Nobody was in there and it looked out of place...

Alfred has great food for a cheap price. The sliders are really good but the breakfast is the best. The host and waitresses are really fast and patient, defintanly a place to go after a long day.

My family and I came here on a whim and were pleasantly surprise. The food was better than your average dive bar fare and the atmosphere was warm and cozy. Can't wait to cone back for lunch... two words: Salmon burgers!!

After being a Yelp lurker for nearly a year, Alfred's finally got me riled up enough to write a review. I used to come here often when meeting up with friends at the Tacoma Dome bus station. It was open early & late, plus there was beer & fries! Good fries! Decent Beer! So this morning after deciding to cave and have a hole-in-the-wall greasy diner breakfast (I've been on the health brigade lately -- only egg whites for this girl!) my husband and I both knew we were headed to Alfred's. A new menu was presented to us, with much of the same old faves. I chose the biscuits and gravy and my husband chose the monte cristo. Both items arrived at the table looking dismal. In fact the plates looked pretty sparse and limp. My husband's monte cristo looked like it was picked up off the ground and his hashbrowns were burnt to a crisp. Meanwhile, my hashbrowns were undercooked and my two biscuits would have been better off being one whole-cooked-from-scratch-biscuit, versus the two that I'm pretty sure came out of a can. Now, I'm not complaining about the grease, that's half the reason we came. The food was poor, the service was meh, and the price was high (higher than Marcia's or Shakabrah's -- both shining gold stars in comparison). I'm not sure if the management changed, but I was disappointed in this t-town favorite and will not be returning.

I thought their breakfast/brunch was definitely a notch above your usual diner fare, i.e. Denny's. It was fast, friendly service and the hash browns were done to a perfect crisp and my wife's pancakes were golden brown and fluffy.

I just tried Alfred's today for the first time. I met a friend there for lunch, and there was plenty of seating in the diner area. The interior has a retro diner feel to it and is pretty clean. The waitress was friendly and prompted. The food was also quite good. I had burgers and fries. I can't comment on breakfast or dinner here, but Alfred's is a great place for lunch if you are in the area.

We've come to Alfred's after church on several Sunday mornings. The food is pretty good (which is why we keep coming back) but the service is close to horrible. They are unfriendly, extremely slow and forgetful - Bad Combo! ps - they serve peppered bacon, two thumbs up for that!

Not a bad option for breakfast. They have decent chicken fried steak and eggs that aren't too shabby! They also make a pretty good bloody mary. Service is sometimes lacking.....in personality and in promptness. Weekends can be tough to find seating. Especially if you have a larger group. The menu is not huge, but sufficient enough. Prices are on the higher side. I have eaten dinner there once and it wasn't too bad either. Others in our party had the calzone and said it was really good. If you like oysters, they serve them up many different ways. FYI: They have a coupon in the Entertainment book.

There were so many reasons why I was hoping that this place was going to be amazing only to be amazed at how terribly wrong my visit truly was. I was in town to see a concert at the Tacoma Dome and I had some time to kill. I found this cute little restaurant a few blocks from the Dome and it appeared to be attracting others who were like me. I went inside and since I was alone, I took a chair at the bar. I ordered a beer and a burger. He asked for my credit card and I asked if I could pay for my order in cash right now, and he said no. I asked why and he told me he didn't want me to run out on my bill. Um, it's hard to run out on a bill that's paid for and so I once again asked if I could simply pay him now in cash. He refused and told me that everyone else had a tab open at the bar. I gave him the card because I wasn't in the mood to argue. When I finished my meal (more on that to come), the bartender asked if I wanted another beer. I said no, that I didn't feel welcomed here and would like to pay for my bill now and leave. He began to ring up my order on my card and I had to stop him and remind him that I wanted to pay in cash. This seemed to piss him off again and he finally allowed me to pay the way I wanted. This is so bizarre and I've never seen someone act this way before. Makes me a little suspicious as to why he wanted my bill paid on my card to badly. Hmm... As it that wasn't enough to ruin a meal, the meal itself helped to sour the experience. I order a burger with lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, another topping and a side of fries. The fries were fine but the burger...not so much. The avocado was hard and clearly not ripe, the bun fell apart after a few bites and the burger itself was bland and stale. So I had a meal of fries and a beer and walked out with a memory of Tacoma that I was not expecting.

We have become breakfast regulars because we have our boat in a nearby marina in Downtown Tacoma. GREAT breakfast food!! We have a few favs... The blueberry pancakes are amazing!! As well well as the pepper bacon! Always good! Southwest burrito and omelets are VERY good!! Order the hash browns extra crispy and they are to die for! Christa our regular waitress is a sweetheart and does a phenomenal job! Get into Alfred's Cafe for terrific breakfast!

My cousin and I wanted to grab a couple of day drinks somewhere close to the Tacoma Dome Station and she suggested Alfred's Café. Upon entering, I thought I stepped into a café owned by Salvador Dali, the décor was very much like his artwork mixed with a 50's diner feel. However,I guess that was the actual café part and we wanted to sit at a bar. The bar was a little more traditional and old fashioned, which was perfectly fine. We made ourselves comfortable and ordered a dirty martini (for me) and a sex on the beach ( she is the only person I know who is over the age of 25 that still orders these). The food specials they had looked enticing so we ordered the street tacos and poblano poppers. The street tacos were ok, I have had better, but for the price it was I wasn't complaining. The poblano poppers on the other hand were amazing, worth every penny! The bill was about $30 with tip. Overall a perfect place to escape to for an afternoon snack and drinks

A bit divey, But an awesome breakfast joint. The food isn't top notch high quality gleaming with presentation glitter. But it hits home. And if the food hits home, then I'm happy. For heavens sakes they have multiple versions of EGGS BENEDICT!!! Oh don't play with my emotions. Choosing one is just too much to decide.

We finally stopped in for breakfast. The décor is old fashioned, but what the hay, it was clean. We were disappointed in the food. It was just a little expense for what we got. It was obvious that the hash browns were process frozen restaurant package. If I wanted frozen hash browns, I would have gone to Dennys. Probably won't be back.

Love this place. So great for breakfast. Full bar if you feel like getting your drink on too. I dig it and I'm super picky.

I like the atmosphere of this place we brought a couple of friends here from out of state. We were here for breakfast there potatoes are really good we had omelettes. Their bloody Mary's were a little disappointing. The service was fast in our server was really nice. I would like to come back and try more of their menu.

Read some reviews, wife and I stopped in for dinner. Service was fast and courtiest, food was excellent. Will definitely come back and try the breakfast.

Excellent Chicken Fried Steak! The Sausage gravy was tasty, not just flour & water, like alot of other places. Went here after reading other reviews. It's a Bar, more than a Cafe or Diner, but they do an awesome breakfast. Free parking in the garage down the street on a Saturday morning. The place was packed, but service was prompted. I'll definitely be back!

First time in Tacoma, went here because it was close and the pictures were positive, all I can say is that this place is a gem and Tacoma should be thankful they have it. The food and service were delightful, this is my new favorite breakfast joint.

The mushroom Swiss burger is a must try if you aren't afraid of mushrooms. Definitely better than the frugal's mushroom Swiss burger.

So bummed. Used to LOVE this place, but today we ordered our regular breakfast lunch and not only had they JACKED THE PRICES by AT LEAST five bucks onto each order, they ALSO CUT the portions in HALF. And it was awful. seriously. burnt or raw. I don't know what happened in the last month but they better fix it quick. I don't plan on giving them any more money till they do. Damn disappointing for what used to be one of the better places to eat. boo.

The service was awful, we were ignored for ages, they did not bring out things we asked for. When we wanted drinks we had to go find someone to serve us. The food was not that good either. The cutlery was dirty. We will not be going back.

This place is clean, friendly ANC served up great food at a reasonable price. I have been here several times and the quality is consistent.

Came in on a Saturday and had the Philly Steak sandwich. It was a 5 star, our waitress on the other hand was horrible and if it wasn't for my sandwich we would probably not go back. She glared at us taking our order, glared bring the food and wouldn't come back to offer a sofa refill. My husband thinks she's the owners wife, if that's the case she needs to work on that customer service attitude.

We needed hangover remedy food and service FAST, and that's what we got. The bloody mary was DELICIOUS, and the burger was perfection. The service was extremely prompt, especially considering that the bartender was full and also responsible for the tables. I will go back!

For us this place is a sure stop. Prompt service all around. Sure there's been a few "won't order that again" but more that I would. Interestingly I normally order something that I'm sure of. Not at this place, seems I want to try something different each trip. Get the homemade chips. Toasty done and not greasy. I have to say the fries look like my favorites but always go for the chips. You won't leave hungry.

I go here for breakfast and its awesome. The food is the bees knees and the service is good too. I have had the Monte Cristo and a few of there breakfast burritos and some scrambles its all great. They have the sleeper beer selection because who knew for the outside this place has awesome beers and a full bar..... keep in mind I think the weekend menu is diffrent than then the weekday menu

We came here for a little pre-show nosh and pre funk, as this was the closest establishment to the Tacoma Dome. The atmosphere inside was very 30-40 years ago. Dark and brooding, with a weird back room type thing where the restrooms were located (which were clean and well maintained). There was that weird stuffy air of being a bar where you could formally smoke before the laws changed- which we sat in. They call it the "Bubble Room" for whatever reason. The service was pretty dang stellar, I will have to say that, and our food and drinks came super quick. The food was okay. I ordered a bun-less bacon burger with a side of slaw. The slaw wasn't very good and it was TINY. For 10.95 I would have expected twice as much, after all, it's just cabbage. The burger patty was also small, but it was obviously from fresh ground beef because of the way it crumbled when I cut into it. It had good flavor, and I was happy that for the price it wasn't a preformed frozen patty. The bacon was really, really good, too, the veggies that accompanied the burger were super fresh and tasty. If not for trying to watch my carb intake, I would have opted for fries or the chips because they seemed like a better option than the sad looking slaw and I would have felt like I got a little more for my money. The only IPA they had on tap was Diamond Knot, which I drink a lot of, so no complaint there, besides wanting a second choice for IPA. The vodka tonic I had here wasn't too shabby, albeit a bit watered down. Overall, it was a pretty good spot to go before an event due to it's speediness and efficiency.

I honestly think I have only been to Alfred's on one other occasion, and I'm not sure what kept me away from this place, but I never had a positive imagine of it. We stopped in for a breakfast on a Saturday morning, and it was a very positive experience. Our server (Scott, I believe) was a pro and very nice for such an early hour. The menu is huge with a little something for anyone. Food was very solid - nothing fancy, or too innovative, just a good, solid breakfast. I will definitely not stay away as long between visits.

Alfred's has been on our list if places to try for breakfast for quite some time. We finally made it in and I am glad we did. The place was fairly busy (and a tad bit loud) and the set- up was reall strange. The wonderful aroma of sweet cream pancakes permeated the air. I ordered the chicken fried steak and my husband ordered the French toast with a side of hash browns, we both had coffee. The food was really good. The chicken fried steak was homemade not some prepackaged frozen product. The French toast didn't even need the warm syrup served with it. Our eggs were cooked perfectly and both the bacon and the English muffins were the perfect crispness. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that the hash browns had a strange flavor. They were just O.K. With everything so spot on, this was a bit of a disappointment. We will definately give them another try, it could have just been an off day.
