I love trying different Philly cheesesteak around the state. The original Philly's makes one of the best. Great flavor and the perfect amount of cheese. It is hard to get past the overall look of the establishment. The place honestly grosses me out, so I tried my best not to look around. My rating is strictly based on the taste and pricing of the food. One of the best in the state

The owner is a large personality with a great smile. His staff is less enthusiastic being 100° inside. The cheese steaks were loaded with fresh hot meat, cheese and mushrooms. Best cheese steak in the southern end of Seattle. Fresh rolls too. The place could use a good scrubbing down in and out. Lots of parking too.

Love this place! It's a total greasy spoon, but the food is great. That said, when your business hours say you're OPEN until 7:00P - that generally means the doors are open until 7:00P.... but instead you've apparently decided to close at 6:15P. A bit ridiculous!

Best in town. I always get the deluxe. The wing special is a good deal also. If you go here you won't be disappointed.

Great food, friendly staff, clean, and great food. Seriously, I could easily live the rest of my life eating nothing else and count myself among the truly lucky.

Worst cheesesteak ever. So much pepper it was like they were trying to hide bad meat. Will never step foot in this dirty, fly filled place again.

Pretty darn good Philly's for this little hole in the wall place! I like them because they are not dripping with grease like a traditional Philly does. Pretty clean tasting and I really appreciate that! The people are pretty nice and appreciative. Definitely worth a try if your in the area!

It was a good sandwich, but I was definitely not blown away. I should give them two stars, but seeing as how I've only been here once I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. Here are the main points of my experience: - The service was not friendly. Borderline rude, actually. I had never been there before and the man taking my order seemed really irritated with me because I didn't know what I wanted right away. - There was ONE order of two sandwiches ahead of me, but I still waited for nearly 25 minutes. - I did NOT find it cheap. For two sandwiches and a can of Hawaiian Punch, my total was a few cents under $20. As far as sandwiches go, for that price I'd much rather have a fish sandwich in West Seattle or even make the trek up to the Northend for some Paseo's. - The sandwiches were long, but not very wide, meaning that there wasn't actually a ton of substance to them. If I were super hungry, one probably would not suffice without an order of fries or a side to fill me up. - It was hotter than hell inside that place and also not very clean. - The parking lot is small and awkward. Would I go back? Probably, if I'm in the mood for cheesy, fatty goodness. But I'd definitely make whoever I'm with go in to get it.

this place is a god damn hole in the wall, but they serve the best philly cheesesteak sandwich this side of the mississippi. I really love this place and don't mind driving about a half hour from the east side to enjoy their always delicious sandwiches.

Definitely somewhere I will get food 'to go' from. Philly cheese steaks here are delicious. I came here intending to get the veggies, but after the smell of steak in the air....nope, I had to have the original. Worth it. They came out hot and didn't get soggy. Cheese oozed out like delicious lava. I had to head to the gym later to burn off the calories...but still. Worth it. Having MULTIPLE people try to solicit me while I'm ordering and eating my food is too much. Seriously, Someone solicited us at the counter to buy their baked goods. Then a woman approached us about attending her gig somewhere in Seattle. Then someone outside tried to sell us crap out of their parked car. Perhaps someone should be monitoring the solicitors. It was pretty strange. But I'm not blaming that on the food. Customer service was friendly and efficient. Food was great. I'll just take it home next time.

Ok I can be quite the snotty Seattleite as well but come on.... this place is a little grimy hole in the wall. Do NOT go here unless you are cool with divey little joints. Yes, the place is quite dirty, yes, the menu was honestly missing letters like 'teak' instead of 'steak' but it kind of adds to the divey charm of it. I'm not normally one to venture into such haunts but a friend was raving about their philly cheese steaks as the best in Seattle so we gave it a try on our lunch break today and it was fairly decent. The staff and clientele may have looked a little sketchy but they were all very friendly, hard working people and their food was simple, but good- you just have to get past the griminess... a diamond in the rough so to speak.

In comparison to my favs straight out of Jersey or Philly ...I will say when I moved here I DREADED I would never find a place that had halfway decent cheese steaks or that I wouldn't be able to find a place that didn't use chicken breast cutlets or pulled chicken UGH but OP ....does a pretty good job with their chicken Philly cheese steak (they use actual chicken steak) AND I AM PROUD! I can't speak for the processed cheese and freezer fries lol I have my days where I go in for chicken cheese steak fries non-stop, but I'm just happy they use actual chicken steak not chicken breast or pulled chicken (I hate cheese steak joints do the latter..they do that a lot in ATL) Sometimes I get a standoff-ish annoyed vibe from the owner/manager/cashier, but I don't sweat it he may be having off days. I mean this IS the only philly cheesesteak stop in Seattle! One last thing, their closing hours and closed for holidays KILL ME! I have random cravings and its ALWAYS when they're closed o_O

My favorite place, hands down. I'd want them to cater at my wedding one day - it's just THAT good! Everything is delish however, the Steak Deluxe & Cheese Fries are a major MUST HAVE for me. Once you've experienced it, you'll be back for more, guaranteed. The best Philly cheesesteak I've EVER experienced. And even better now, the hours have changed, they are now open Sundays!!! :D

My son wanted to give the place five stars, but he didn't have to extricate the car from the parking lot (appropriately described as "awkward in another review). The food, however, made the automotive gymnastics worth it. I got the pepper cheesesteak, Lucas opted to try the regular version (this was his first cheesesteak, so like any good scientist, he wanted to establish a baseline for future comparisons). Both were awesome: plenty of well-seasoned meat (no gristle) held in place--for the most part--by just the right amount of melted cheese (but not so much that it oozed out onto our fingers). The peppers on mine gave a nice heat. As an afterthought, I picked up a couple of the bite-size pies they sell (the peach was great, the pecan very good) for a buck each. The proprietor didn't have three $1s to make change for my $5, so I asked if he wanted to add an order of cheese fries ($2.99) to my order--he did, waved the tax, they were delish, win-win. We'll be back.

The sandwiches are pretty awesome.. BUT.!! the way the people cooking it look... makes me wonder how sanitary they really are... the place could Def use a remodeling job... I don't think I'm going to come back. Cleanliness doesn't look to be a top priority for the place, such a shame since the sandwich was good. The customer service sucks too! It's like they don't wanna be there and are always grumpy.

    (1)
  • Janet N.

Honestly came here expecting a really good cheesesteak but it was anything but good. Also their cashier wasn't even welcoming, he didn't even smile, he didn't even look old enough to work there. And a really strange thing is that they don't even have napkins. Where am I gonna wipe my greasy fingers from all that food?

    (2)
  • Jenn S.

As a Philly resident for several decades, I will tell you that they make **good** cheesesteaks, especially considering the handicap of being in Seattle. I totally agree with what Laurie G said on 8/30/2011: yelp.com/biz/the-origina… The place itself is dumpy. We ordered To Go and loved our food. I added some photos.

  • Mary F.

I agree with fellow reviewer Julian; this place is FILTHY. The Pepsi guy was there to work on the machine and I overheard him say it was so filthy that he didn't think it could be serviced. The one person we seen working was watching college football and took quite awhile to take out order. We took the sandwiches to the park since it was a beautiful day, they were not anything close to great. The bread is ok, over cooked meat, weird taste to the whole sandwich. Subway can do better and I can't stand Subway

When we crave for cheesesteak, this is the place to be! You know what they say, "don't judge a book by it's cover." Sure this isn't the most appealing establishment inside and out, but their sandwiches and cheese fries are definitely something to drool about. I would highly recommend ordering takeout... their method of "ventilating" is opening the doors and windows-- you will walk away with a new and attractive scent (to your dog) in your hair and clothes... ; )

This one is really easy. I used to work out in Rainier Valley for about 2 years. Here is my experience with this place. Situation 1: Enter Philly's with a black co-worker (I'm white) get prompt service, fresh hot sandwich full of well seasoned meat. Overall pretty good, not awesome, but decent. Situation 2: Enter Philly's by myself. Not another soul in the restaurant when I arrive, I'm waiting at the front counter while being ignored for about 5 minutes then finally get to put my order in, only because 3 other people arrive and are standing behind me. Go sit down and then wait while 5-10 people (all black) get served before me who arrived and put in an order well after me. Then, when I eventually go up to get my food (name called) it's literally the scraps from other peoples food (i think) and it's cold and the sandwich literally has 1/3-1/4 of the meat of the other times I went with my co-worker. The second time I went by myself it took 45 minutes to get my food and it was the same crappy puny cold sandwich. I know scenarios like this and worse happen to minorities far more often than they happen to white people so I'm not going to bitch any further. In the future I will just refuse to patronize any business that practices this way - in either direction.

Craving a good philly, I hit this place up after driving by multiple times in the past. I was NOT disappointed! It took a little bit for the sandwich to be ready but that's because he makes it once you order- so fresh and delicious! Even the fries were piping hot and awesome. Had the pepper cheesesteak-just the right amount of heat to not overpower the cheesesteak greatness (but note I do like it hot, to include my food, so factor in your heat tolerance). This place is a gem of a hole in the wall, not to be missed!

Yum-O! The best Philly cheesesteak I've had in this city! After my husband and I split a sandwich, he returned to the counter to order another half for himself. The bread is soft, the cheesesteak is not too salty or overly cheesy. The owner and the employees are pleasant, not too chatty, but if you initiate conversation and maybe smile, they will respond in kind. Another reviewer commented that he felt as though the owner doesn't like white people. What an absurd statement. We are white and my husband and owner chatted it up. I even spotted a white, yes white, employee in the back {gasp}. Anyway, if you're ever in the area, you can't pass this place up. We're glad we found it!

A great place to get a Philly..! I live nearby and I always drove by this place and decided to try it out. What I discovered is a great place for Philly's! I love the Philly deluxe as well as the (if you want something fried) fried chicken special. Another way to go is the Philly mushroom. The service is great and friendly and local. I highly recommend!

LOVE IT! LOVE IT! LOVE IT! I always get the chicken cheese sandwich- It is fabulous. It's a little sketchy looking on the outside, and not the best on the inside- but I'm seriously, serious- Their food is oh so yummy :) TIP: We always call in ahead of time and and get it to go because you have to wait a few minutes, typically,

Best place in the city to get a cheese steak. Don't let anyone else tell you otherwise. I stick with the Chicken Cheese Deluxe. Add a little ketchup, Philly style, and you got a winner! The service could be a little more customer friendly. Cheer up people, we are there to enjoy your food.

Ah...back from the days of 23rd and Union... My co-worker made a lunch run this week and I was re-aquainted with an old friend, the Mushroom Cheesesteak. I have never fallen asleep after eating lunch at work before but this time, I lost consciousness in separate blocks of time...sometimes for 2 minutes, or 5 minutes...even 10 minute blocks. When I got the bag from my friend, you know it's gonna be good when you see grease spots under or around the bag. If you want to enjoy a great meal and take a nap right away afterwards (or if you're having trouble sleeping)...this is the place to go.

I've eaten here several times now and always had wonderful food and service. I've had a hard time finding good "unhealthy" food around Seattle occasionally but I don't have that problem with cheesesteaks anymore. They also have several other items like chicken wings and hoagies that look delicious but I always go for the steak.

  • Ashley A.

As someone who never had a philly steak sandwich before, I'm not sure how credible my review will be: but the pepper cheese steak sandwich was absolutely amazing! The half sandwich as definitely enough for me, but I couldn't get enough of their cheesy fries. They cover the crinkle fries in cheese and Johnny's seasoning...it's worth a drive from anywhere in Seattle! They have a few tables and a bar stool area to sit down at. The place might seem a bit dingy to others, but those are always the restaurants with the best food!! Everyone there was friendly and helpful. The location may seem remote and confusing to get into, but it definitely lives up to its name as the best Philly in Seattle.

  • Jason T.

I first went there in 1992 with a friend who was amazed when he tried them at the bite of Seattle. Now 18 years later I savor a treat to go down to them for a FULL CHICKEN DELUXE! Their steak fries are something to behold, a gut buster. All other phillys for the rest of your life will fail in comparison. He also is outside Qwest field on gamedays!

I have to say I love this restaurant. I went here with one of my friends and we shared the pizza sub and about died. The food is soooooo good it melted in our mouth. they made it fresh to order and the cheeses was amazing. Its not too expensive and you get amazing food for the price. This is the best philly cheesesteak in Seattle. You have to try this. Yummy!!!

I've seen this place for awhile, but was never sure how to get in the parking lot with all the light rail construction. If you take Cheasty down from Beacon Ave., it drops you right into one of their parking lots. First weird thing though - you pull the door towards you, but then it almost makes you feel like you're going to knock yourself off the porch. The serviceperson behind the counter can see the whole thing and that's probably why she greets customers with a smile. Back to the food: I got a mushroom cheesesteak, fries, side of ranch, and a bottle of water (since they don't serve Coke products) for $11.82. I wasn't sure if I had ordered a whole or half sandwich, but am glad that it came out as a whole. Since the restaurant felt like a refrigerator, I changed my mind and got my order to go, chancing cold fries to West Seattle. Sandwich was delish and the fries had some sort of peppery seasoning salt, which was pretty tasty. Now that I know how to get in the lot, I will be back!

The Original Philly's has a pretty tasty Philly Cheese steak; but it's a bit pricey, so I don't think I'll be making regular trips for it. When I absolutely need to satiate my cheese steak craving, however, I will definitely pay the Original Philly's a visit.

  • Annabeth H.

Double cheese please! I have been craving a good Steak and cheese. Sorry Subway...your sandwich is B-U-N-K!! Im a creature of habit so I get the same thing every time. Steak and cheese with extra cheese. Diet? what?? made to order, $8 for a whole sandy. The environment was a little annoying. Im not against ESPN, except when its blaring and I cant hear the person I am with. Doesnt really matter anyway, I was so into my sandwich.

The cheesesteaks here are about the size of my forearm, and pretty tasty. Easily one of my favorite "cheap eats"

  • Shon R.

Solid cheesesteaks in the NW... I've tried every place recommended for cheesesteaks except one, and this is one of the better ones in Seattle. The mushroom cheesesteak was good. Filled meat and cheese and on a pretty nice roll. Definitely worth a try if you're in the neighborhood and craving a greasy treat.

  • Virginia L.

This place is defiantly naughty... don't know if it was the beer before hand or the contact high from the gentleman smoking near the back but it was very good! If you go there, go for it and get the cheese steaks fries too!

  • Jim B.

I ordered two cheesesteaks today for pickup - I was very pleased with everything. The guy who answered the phone was efficient - and said my order would be ready in 10 min. I drove over and sure enough, my fries were just being dished up (hot and crispy) and my hogies were kept hot under the heat lamps. They do cheesesteaks like I expect them to be. The Deluxe has steak, onion, peppers, hot peppers, mushrooms, white american cheese, lettuce, tomato, mayo, all on the perfect soft yet chewey roll. YUM!! In Seattle - when you are cravin' a cheesesteak - This is the place to go. Reminds me of the cheesesteaks we used to get from the Phyllys Best on 23rd and Union. (may he rest in peace).

  • Rachael E.

It was just alright. I think that it is way to expensive for what it is, and there was hardly any cheese on my cheese steak! For one thing of fries and two phillys it was about $20. The meat had a really chopped, reconstituted texture that I didn't like. I was also really disapointed by the no cheese factor. I also didn't feel very welcome in this place. I would not go back, even though the fries were tasty.

    (2)
  • Rachel B.

Ok. This is totally a naughty pleasure for sure. I love the cheesesteaks here. And no, I've never had a "real" one in Philly so I can't attest to authenticity. However, they are wickedly delicious. I always get the mushroom cheese steak with extra cheese. And the fries which are spicy. Service can be slow. Even if you call ahead so just get over it and sit down and play ms. pacman or watch whatever is on tv. Not too many people eat in. Most folks get stuff to go. They do have fish and chips and chicken steaks? Hmmm... chicken steaks sounds wrong. They also have veggie versions and versions with lettuce and tomato on them. If you are a tasykake fan, they have those too. There is one guy who is a less good cook than the other guy so, if he is cooking, the food won't be as good.

    (4)
  • Cristian A.

Not sure about the good reviews but I used to eat the original style while leaving on east coast. The meet a bit chewy and the cheese made the bread soggy. I will not go back there

    (1)
  • Anne B.

I went back the next day for a full cheesesteak with Whiz on top :) Loved it! Talked my friends into getting carry out from there, and they weren't too impressed. One from from NH mentioned the bread was lacking, another friend from WA wanted hot peppers, and the friend from WI said it would be good after 2-3 beers. Anyway, I'll go without the beer, hot peppers, and fancy bread.

  • Russ P.

Let me start by saying that I love cheesesteaks and it has been nearly impossible to find a good cheesesteak shop anywhere in greater Seattle. Anyone can say they serve cheesesteaks but chopped meat in a roll does not make a cheesesteak. The harmoneous combination of chopped steak with sweet and hot peppers and onions on a fresh roll covered in melted white cheese makes a great cheesesteak...I'm getting hungry just writing this review! I'll warn you that Original Philly's is not pretty and in a less than stellar neighborhood but the food more than makes up for it! On a recent visit I ordered an original cheesesteak with peppers, fries and a beer. The steak was delicious, the fries were equally good and the cold beer hit the spot! If you crave a delicious cheesesteak look no further than The Original Philly's, it will not disappoint!

The best Cheesesteak on earth hands down !!!!!!!! The flavor taste good. Get the steak sandwich with bell and red peppers, mayo, cheese and onions, YUM.

I had passed by quite a few times and never had the chance to stop. Today, my roommate and I went in. I was not impressed. I had read the reviews and I wonder if they have had a change in staff or something. We walked in and were not greeted. We stood there while the man behind the counter took his time walking back and forth. He finally asked if he could help us. My roommate got the whole cheesesteak, fries and Pepsi. I got the half pepper cheesesteak. Very disappointing. I couldn't tell there was any cheese on it. There was supposed to be bell and hot peppers, but there were no hot peppers. The sandwich was only 4" long, and it was $5. The taste was okay, but I had to add mayo and salt. After all the reviews, the actual experience was disappointing. I am also a big fan of good customer service. Not one time did I receive or hear any kind of 'please' or 'thank you' for myself or any of the other customers. I like to know my business is appreciated.

  • Dev D.

Filthy (why don't they ever clean the place?), cold (especially in the winter), unfriendly (except for the owner), and just not a good experience at all. They have a great location (right off the Sound Transit line) in Seattle but just don't seem to know how to run a good business that attracts repeat customers. I can see why people keep going back (not much competition locally, Philly Fevre is even worse and Tat's thinks pretty highly of themselves and probably wouldn't do very well if it weren't for the .com crowd) but people, please, if you want to go somewhere that has great food, is warm, friendly and appreciates your business, go to Paison's in Burien. They can't be beat. I admit, I have frequented Philly's Best for years and it has been hit or miss, but the last time I went in there, the place smelled like fish, there was a MGD vendor sitting on a stool in the middle of the kitchen waiting to get paid for an invoice, we stood at the counter for three minutes and never got acknowledged at all, it was bitterly cold, etc. You get the picture, I said that was the last time I would ever go.

Shady. My husband and I came to this establishment CRAVING a good philly sandwich. Our experience was not good. When we arrived the man behind the counter said, "we're closed!" It was 4:45. We mentioned the time and then he said, "we're out of bread." As we turned and walked away another two women came in and were severed no problem. Okay man, we get it....we're not welcome. My suggestion is to google map the neighborhood, if you're not "local", you won't be served.

I always enjoy the food here I've came plenty of times before and Conquered the deluxe chz STK... Rating it 3 for a lack of customer service. The front lady when I ordered was very pleasant even gave me quarters to let my kids play the games... But that Thot-bot that brought my food out had such a negative energy I had to wrap my philly to go!! If you don't like dealing with others why work where you do! Do us a favor and Quit!!!

Super tasty cheesesteaks. Seem to default to provolone or something as I wasn't offered a Wiz option on my mushroom cheesesteak. Sandwiches are big. Large probably good for two people. I reheated my second half at home in the oven and it was still very good. Hate to say it, but tastier than many of the cheesesteaks I got in Philly.

  • Joan L.

This is place does it right. It's simple. And it's perfect. Got the mushroom cheesesteak w cheese wizz. Cheesewizz was warm and plentiful. Meat was cooked perfect, seasoned perfect and was soft and tender. Bread was soft but strong enough to not deteriorate from the grease from the meat. Every bite was tender, juicy, cheesy, meaty deliciousness. The 2nd best thing was the cold Pepsi I washed it down with. This place is the only place I'll go to.

  • Caitlin H.

I ordered a steak sandwich with mushrooms, onions, bell peppers, and mozzarella. It was kind of flavorless; I couldn't really taste any of the ingredients, and although the cheese was white, it didn't taste like mozzarella. The wings and fries were good, and the sandwich was texturally sound, but I think I'll keep looking elsewhere for the perfect Philly cheesesteak.

  • Angie S.

Holy cow this place is delicious! To be fair, all I've ever had was their chicken cheesesteak but that's really all I need to have because it's amazing. I suggest waiting outside for your food though because it's hella hot in there!

  • Reba H.

The Best Philly in Seattle! This place makes delicious sandwiches and cheese steak fries. Have been going to this place for 12 years and the flavor is just as robust and savory as it was all of those years ago. You simply must check out this place. Side Bar: I make no exaggerations about the food and I won't grossly leave out another aspect. The restaurant is more of an "take out" establishment. If it's a hot day you can even eat outside. But I wouldnt suggest dining in. Its not that comfortable. FYI

  • Tiffany O.

Bring cash, that's all they take. My friend got the steak hoagie. $8.99 full sammy. She said it was good. I however, got the chicken deluxe. I think the same price for full sammy. It kinda just tasted like mayo, so I tried the chicken and it was pretty bland. My husband got the steak deluxe and we haven't tried it yet, but when we do, I'll update my review. My friend and I walked there from my house about 15 mins. The sammy's were pretty soggy when we got home, which isn't there fault. Everyone complaining about the rude cashier... the place HARDLY looks like the kinda joint you'd expect it from. I recommend yall wanting that NEVER dine at Dick's. Lol. The dude who brought out the food, cuz we were sitting outside, was super nice. Give a Lil, take a Lil.

So I'm thinking cheesesteak sandwich for lunch, and I remember this place in the Valley. My brain goes "BAM" and think I'll go here . Now this is the highlight of the moment. I was in and order Philly cheese , provolone and order of fries and coke. Now I'm waiting for my food and like It's arctic tempature's inside the building, I guess the owner can't afford heat. So now that frost bite has set in I get my sandwich, fries and coke and sit. First off the sandwich has zero taste. I'm not sure if they over cooked it or have any idea that a cheesesteak needs flavor. I sit and ponder did that use spices or bad quality meat? Maybe over cook it a little but whatever they did I must say it was a Philly Steak that tasted like shoe leather. So here's to freezing me and showing me what an old shoe tastes like. I will not venture back to a place call Original Philly's when they can't even make the damn sandwich correctly. Keep in mind I fly out to Philly's for the cheesesteak weekend and I know what this sandwich is suppose to taste like. So when FRANK say's it sucks it sucks!

Went back again! Two times in the same week! Amazing philly! And the cheese fries are delicious; make sure to get extra seasoning on them though. The party wings are a MUST have! Make sure you get the hot sauce (which taste like an amazing buffalo!) and pour them all over the freshly cooked wings! It'll be like magic in your mouth! The

Still the best cheese steaks in Seattle despite what the "other" customers say. Seems to be people not from the area are the quickly to call the establishment ghetto or dirty or rude staff which I find to be sad. If you take a look around the place is actually clean, maybe could use a brighter coat of paint though. We will back going there today for my usual let you know if the staff is ghetto, dirty or rude. They do take credit cards, when the ghetto dirty rude machine is not broken.

My friend, son, and I were hungry while driving around exploring Seattle. We stopped here to test the advertising that claimed their cheesesteaks are the best. The broken down food truck in the parking lot was a bit off-putting and the place is kind of a pain to get into/out of, but we gave it a go. After the surly man behind the counter took our order (2 Deluxes and a pizza) and told us that they were out of straws and napkins. Everyone needed a bathroom break. That was....educational. It took quite a while to get our food and by the time it arrived, a very loud local group came in to watch whatever game was playing on the tv. Honestly, with the way things started, we weren't optimistic about the food. At all. Something happened after we each took our first bite of cheese steak. Everything changed. Suddenly, the obnoxious people behind us was a harmonious chorus. The long-forgotten food truck seemed to shine with a little pride. A very friendly man asked us how our food was and all we could do was nod and keep stuffing our faces...in spite of having to wipe our hands on our pants. We didn't like those pants anyway. These cheese steaks are freaking delicious. Seriously. They get away with the dumpy settings because they're just ridiculously good. We were there on 4/25 and decided we need to make a monthly pilgrimage from Snohomish and Concrete.

Good philly cheesesteak. I ordered the cheesesteak with peppers and mushrooms and was not disappointed. It was nice and greasy with the classic cheese whiz type cheese on it. Also ordered the cheese fries which were surprisingly good. A little expensive for the quality, but very filling. There are some colorful characters who hang around there so enjoy it while you're there

One day I was sitting in my Seattle apartment craving an Italian Beef [not gonna happen outside of Chicago...] and I started thinking, "What's the closest thing to an Italian Beef that I could get?" And then I remembered seeing this place. After checking the Yelp reviews and managing my expectations, I grabbed the boyfriend and we headed to The Original Philly's. I had a regular ole' cheesesteak [with onions] and cheese fries and I was delighted! For a very brief moment, I forgot all about missing Chicago and I fell in love with Philly [I'll have to make a special trip to try the real thing!]. Next time I think my craving will be for a Cheesesteak and now I know where to get it. Yum.

I have tried cheese steaks all over this country. The cheese steaks here are some of the best I have had outside of Philadelphia. Never mind the location, the parking, the wait time, or anything else people on here might be complaining about. When you get your sandwich it will all be worth it.

The mushroom cheese steak is so delicious. The atmosphere/building itself makes me want to bring Clorox wipes and clean it up a bit. Other than aesthetics, this place serves up some delicious sandwiches. Also, they are pretty decently priced. You have many options for the cheese steak itself (pepper, mushroom, plain, chicken, etc) and they seem to offer some calorie filled sides as well! I recommend this place to anyone who doesn't count calories and is into hole in the wall restaurants.

This place is a nasty as hell and everyone's smug. Grimey and crusty looking. It feels like I'm in a Crown Fried Chicken in North Philly. The cheesesteak was just alright. In Philly there's real competition to cook good cheesesteaks, in Seattle not so much. But straight up, it feels like I'm in Philly and I miss that disgusting life.

The sandwich itself was okay, nothing out of the ordinary. However, the debt machine was down so I had to go and get cash at the gas station. After that ordeal, I then come in with a $20 bill. The cashier then tells me she doesn't have enough change in the register and talks to the cook. He tells her to use her own $10 from her pocket as my change and that he will get her money back to her later in the shift. This is so sad that they employees need to do this for the company to survive. The owner should at least put enough in the register to not have these issues. The restroom did not have a working hand dryer nor paper towels. I paid about $10 for my meal, but the experience of disorganization within management will most likely prevent me from returning

Hole-in-the-wall for sure. Run down, nothing fancy; but what they lack in decor and ambience they more than make up for it in food. My friend raves about this place, so a bunch of us came for lunch. I don't eat meat and they have plenty of vegetarian and fish options. I had the fish Philly with extra veggies. Bomb. Everyone else ordered the Philly Cheesesteaks and loved them. They offer a vinegar based hot sauce that does the trick for an extra kick to your food. We also ordered some of the cheese fries, but everyone was too full to eat them.

Excellent Philly Cheese Steak, best I've ever had in my life, my go to is the Pepper Steak. Just make sure to eat it quick, don't take it to go, they're so juicy that the bread gets soggy. Another thing to try is their cheese fries, some people love them, some don't, but I'm a fan. The tables are sticky, sometimes there are flies flying around inside on hot days, but none of that matters, nothing will stop me from eating there. If you're a clean restaurant snob this isn't the place for you. It's one of those Seattle classics that will go down in history, I've been going here for 13+ years now, they've never let me down.

I want to write a good review so badly, I really do. Unfortunately it just was not good. I ordered a mushroom cheese steak, and regular fries Suriname Pepsi. I'm unsure if it was the machine, or if the syrup bags got mixed up but it was definitely funky and possibly diet Pepsi. The sandwich. The center of the meal... It had two slices of mushroom in entire thing, and all of my cheese was smushed into the far corner of the sandwich instead of ontop. The meat also seemed like it had been sitting out all day - this was around 5:45pm though - and it was not the juicy delicious cheese steak I had been tricked into believing it would be. My fries were also half cooked and white, not crisp at all. I'm disappointed, but maybe I'll try stopping in again when the owner is in... If he ever is these days. :) I want to like you. And I want to enjoy you, hyped up Philly cheese steak that's better than Philadelphia. Please don't let me down! :)

the idea of this place is bomb.. but the actual philly itself was hellla salty. you guys know that's huge when i say that because i love everything extra salty. I got a philly cheesesteak with mushrooms and extra cheese.. best enjoyed there and hot, if you take it to go the cheese will start to congeal and be kinda gross. i also got an order of cheese fries that were so so. overall the place was pretty beat up, food was mediocre but hey, if it was like late night after the club kinda night, i would for sure hit this place up again.. but it's not.

Being from the Philadelphia area originally, I've always wanted to stop here when I'm down in Rainier Valley. I did today. The owner (or cook) is from North Philly, that's authentic. The cheesesteak was just ok. If it had been great it would be easier to ignore that the place is dirty, no napkins in the holders, pop and ice machine are broken, only one questionable restroom works....I don't think I'll be going back.

Walked in and was told by the cashier she only takes cash for now. Didn't explain why and even asked us to order and come back with cash. The sign on the door says they accept debit or credit cards. Shady.

    (1)
  • Donisha C.

Horrible horrible horrible......... the customer service sucked the tall man cooking with the dirty ass tee shirt was really rude. The debit card machine didn't work. The food was dry and nasty the restaurant was extremely dirty food everywhere the menu sign was ghetto as hell there was no prices on the menu. And on top of that they didn't give me my drinks I paid for. This place should be shut down by the health department. I'm never going to this place again my business was not apreicaited. I will be going to Philly Fever for now.

I've never had a cheesesteak outside of Philly. Just a cheesesteak. "Leave it alone." Mmmmm...this looked, smelled and tasted like Philly. Hoping I can talk the boss into Philly's for our bi-monthly Wednesday lunch.

While I leverage excuses for some form of cleanliness taco trucks. I mostly attribute it to confined spaces and a large, demanding customer base. To sum it up, this place if filthy and there's absolutely no excuse for it. Signs inside and photos of the food (are you serious!?) are grease stained, floors are dirty, fly's are present, decor is outdated filthy. The cook was working in his house, slippers socks, dirty shorts and dirty t-shirt. Kitchen looks filthy, even the place where the drinks were stored could benefit from some windex. The food is inexpensive, but due to the cleanliness of this place i'm afraid to ask why. The cheese steak was decent and the chicken cheese fries that i "had to have" tasted like the fries came from a freezer bag and the cheese was congealing right in front of our eyes. (dear chef, google the benefits of calcium citrate and this will solve your problem!) To sum it up, I'm glad i went here to see what they hype is about. But i have no plans to return. Roxy's makes a much better cheese steak and they actually have pride in their restaurant (read = its clean).

Great cheese steak!!!...although suffering in the classic greasy spoon dirty diner group. I'd prefer to think of it as the seasoning that makes it taste so good.

I've been a customer of both locations four a decade and have always enjoyed the food, take it especially. Unfortunately, a couple of weeks ago I had a bad batch of wings special because something in the food made me itch for now a bit over two weeks!! This incident is the first time I've ever experienced something like this at any restaurant. I will never eat there again.

  • Tan Lo S.

Mmmm, finally I have time to try their philly cheese steak. So. Damn. Good. What can you complain about? The tender and juicy meat? The ever so tasty sauce with cheese that melts into your mouth as you bite into it? The mushrooms and green bell peppers that are sauteed so well it's almost caramelized? I just drooled in my mouth, oops. I don't care how long I have to wait because this food is so damn fresh. They make it when you order it. So good quality. Just like their cheese fries, Mmmmm too. And their wings. The best tasting chicken wings I've ever had damn it. I don't care what anybody says, this place is worth the wait for the quality and taste. Yes, they can get busy, but that's how you know it's good. I've never had bad experiences with Philly's. They're super friendly, and always have sports on, oh yeah baby! :) Try their deluxe Philly (that's what I got). If you want chicken, get their wing special. If you want fries, or if you don't want fries, get their cheese fries with chicken anyway. You won't regret it!

To be fair, I should actually give this place 4-stars, since it's the only place that I have ever had a chicken Philly Cheesest...eaken sandwich. I'm thinking others can relate, but for me, there exists food in the world, that I like the IDEA of--even if don't eat it. For instance, I like the idea of steak. Filling, meaty, satisfying umami--all combined with the pleasure derived from carnivorous chewing. But...I don't eat moo cow. So I order a huge medium-rare duck breast and get the same effect (but BETTER ;) A Philly Cheesesteak is another food that I had wondered about for a long time: Bread, protein, cheese, sauteed peppers/onions? Sounds terrific! Yes, I know; I know. It's not a cheesesteak unless you have this way, or that way, wit or witout, or wutever. For us pollo-vegetarians and vegetarians, The Original Philly's offers us the missing cheesestea-ken-able link! At last, I was able to try *a version of* one, as described above, with a ton of Velveeta-like cheese sauce over the top (and a side of fries.) I felt victorious. Like I had discovered the cure for Tourette's. That's pretty victorious feeling. It was like having McDonald's for the first time when you were a kid. I loved it, but at the same time, realized that it wasn't the most quality sandwich I've ever had ;) But you know, this makes The OP a-OK in my book! The owner is super sweet!

All I have to say is this place is nasty, filthy and very unprofessional. I go in to order 2 meals spending $25 bucks and received rude service from a cook from the back who obviously has no other skill but being an ass. The food was gross and he actually made my order last after several people came in after me. The girl taking the order sat there and chatted with some guy for Several minutes not asking me if I was ready or not..not even knowing how to ring the food up as if she was new. The cook had the nerve to ask me was I still looking at the menu or did I want to order in a rude manner. Well I've been waiting for this girl to take my order helllo. "I'm thinking I didn't have to wait so patiently."Who does that? ....If I hadn't paid with a debit I would've got my money back. Dirty restroom no soap in dispenser or tissue paper. GHETTO dirty place and PEOPLE ....NO CLASS AT ALL!!## they need to shut this Rat Hole down. There is nothin good about this place...definitely should be on dirty dining!

Good grub and for great value. I called in for take-out for some munchies. Waiting inside, they have some TV's on sports channels and 2 pacman table machines if you want to do those. The space is alright for what it is, but I think their focus is on the grub. I had the half pizza steak with a side of fries. They gave me cheddar cheese fries but it was fine with me. The lady with the short hair was friendly and cool. I tried a sample of a locally made sweet potato pie - good! Ventilation could improve since you can see a subtle haze of smoke but it's tolerable. I don't recommend coming here late at night.

Best Philly cheesesteak in town!!!! If you want a damn good cheesesteak that is cheap and leaving you wanting more, then this the place to go. It's a very select menu but there are awesome steak and chicken sandwiches to choose from, plus hoagies, fish and chips, wings, chicken, steak or regular cheese fries, and just regular fries. The fries here are delicious plus the portion of fires you get are insane. Philly's is located right on the corner of MLK Way and Rainier Ave. It's not a very big place so the seating is limited so I would suggest ordering it to go. Philly's has a great atmosphere with some famous people's pictures on the wall. The Pepper cheesesteak, which costs $7.99 for a full and $4.99 for a half, is my absolute favorite with an order of regular seasoned fries for $1.59. There is nothing on the menu over $7.99 so you defiantly don't have to break the bank to have some awesome food.

I would like to preface this review with the fact that were this restaurant in Philly, I would NOT be giving them 5 stars. They are getting rated so high because the "Seattle factor" makes it impossible to get a GOOD cheesesteak out here. Now that that's out of the way. Original Philly's is actually a decent cheesesteak. Its definitely the best I've had in the Seattle area. Considering I practically lived on cheesesteaks when I lived in Philly, it's been a tough transition. They use the best bread of any cheesesteak joint in the area, and they don't put odd out-of-place spices on the meat like Tat's does. They sell cheese fries, which to me is an integral part of the cheesesteak experience. They aren't the best, but they do their job. The restaurant has that distinct Philly feel to it, too. This would likely be a 3-star cheesesteak place for me in Philly - and considering how horrible the quality of cheesesteaks are here in Seattle, that's pretty damn high praise.

  • Henry L.

Got the Deluxe CheeseSteak, which is the signature sandwich served with steak, melted cheese, mushrooms, mayo, lettuce, tomatoes, hot pepper, bell peppers and onion. Very quiet place. The steak can get more flavor or seasoning, but the melted cheese made the cheesesteak worth the price. The mayo made the sandwich taste interesting. Liked the mushrooms, lettuce, tomatoes, hot & bell peppers plus the onions made everything come together for the good mouth watering flavor. Parking is kinda small and congested at times, but is manageable during the non busy hours. Pictures of the sandwiches are available at the counter. When the sandwich order was ready it was more than a Subway footlong, which makes it worth every penny. If you're thinking Cheesesteak then its time for The Original Philly!!!

So I came into this joint expecting greatness reading the reviews prior and word of mouth from another friend as well. Unfortunately, I was not blown away. First of all, when you walk in the place is very dirty and run down. I didn't look too far into it as the taste of a good cheesesteak would definitely overrule the overall "soot" feel to the inside of the restaurant (greasy baseboard, dirty tables, dirty bathrooms). I ordered my steak deluxe with fries and came out to a rather cheaper price. So far so good. When I got my steak, I got the large sized and my girlfriend ordered the regular size. From a meat-to-bread ratio, the regular just KILLED my large size when it came to meat. Mine definitely had more blank spots while hers was overflowing. That was initially dissapointing. Also, there was barely (if any) cheese inside of it! It was mostly mayonaise! So I had this mostly bread, mayo filled, no cheese sandwich sitting in front of me. Granted the steak was very tasty and mushrooms as well, it just did not sit well with me. All in all, I was very dissapointed with this place, if you want a delicious cheesesteak, try out Tat's deli in Pioneer Square.

A pretty good Philly... The 1/2 Pep Chs with fries was plenty big for a full sized guy that was fairly hungry. The sandy did have a bit too much salt for me, but I'll just ask for less next time around. The fries are crinkle cut and the person manning the fryer was spot on-crispy! $7.20 w/ a water Bit of a hole in the wall, with a retro dairy queen feel inside.

My boyfriend loves Philly steaks sandwich, so we decided to give this place a try after we read the reviews on Yelp, and with a entertainment book coupon for $7 off from their website. So when we walked in, it seemed like there were maybe 4 or 5 orders ahead of us with one guy who was the cashier/chef. So he took our orders from the kitchen asking what we wanted because he was busy cooking. My boyfriend ordered a full sized Philly steak sandwich with the pizza sauce, and I had a half order steak sandwich deluxe with a side order of chicken wings for take out. Total wait time: almost 40 minutes. Well, while waiting for our orders, we haven't paid by this point yet because he was busy by himself. Finally another help came along, so he was ready to charge us while we presented him the coupon. Oh, he took it, but while mumbling at the register "I thought I told them to discontinued it already." At this point, I was thinking maybe the portion will be different because of the discount? Anyway, it just does not make customers feel good when you complain about your own discounts that you signed up for. So when we came home, both sandwiches were actually good portions for very reasonable prices. I'm just going to be honest that I don't know what an "original" Philly steak sandwich should be or taste like, so I'm not going to comment if theirs was better than other restaurants, but the price & portion I could give a 4 star!! Chicken wings.... oh man, they were soooooo good, if I went back, I know I'm only getting the wings!! From the frying color on the them, I know the oil gets changed pretty frequently, they were nice golden crispy. There were lightly seasoned but with good flavor, the meat was tender and right off the bones, yum!! Overall, the place is a typical hole in the wall restaurant, but I don't mind because I'd eat anywhere as long as they serve good food. The place would have deserved another star if the owner was more friendly.

I have ordered from them several times. The last time we had these sandwiches they were too salty. Other then that not bad in plentiful stuffing of sandwiches.

  • Laurie G.

The picnic bench out front is broken, the bar stools are cracked, the soda machine promises 6 choices but only has punch, and you'll want to avoid touching any of the surfaces inside. But the Philly sandwiches are AWESOME! Tasty. Perfect bread. Just enough cheese. Yum! And cold beer! This joint used to be up on 23rd in the CD. When I moved back to the area after many years away, I was super disappointed to discover it was closed. Big smile when we drove by the 'new' location by chance. So order your cheesesteak to go. But know you'll love your meal. Mt Baker park/beach is a nice, nearby beachside location to chow down.

I've been here a few times, but never reviewed it before. My last experience was definitely bad enough to never go again. My friends and I recently purchased some Eversave (like groupon) coupons for this place. We went in with 3 of them between 6 of us. We placed our order and the cashier noticed we had the coupons so she asked the Owner about it. The owner then got an attitude and said "I ain't taking all of those". They let us use 1 coupon, but didn't even apply the discount correctly. Half of us left. lol The food is ok. I wouldn't say it's gross...just ok. Sandwiches are decent, but our cheese fries were cold. The soda machine was also broken. It's also kind of expensive here. Anyway, I won't be back again but I won't stop anyone from going ;) They do have 2 small dedicated parking lots.

  • Kevin B.

I bought a coupon from Eversave.com for $12 worth of food for 6. When I displayed it to the cashier(who happened to also be the owner) he looked at it and did not even realize that he signed up his business for this offer! Well he gave me a not so nice look and it left me not feeling right about the place. Here I am visiting his biz for the first time, and he ends up giving me a hard time about it My food sat in a window until I walked up to the counter, obviously it was not to go, but the owner is a jerk and he does not like white people. . That is not how you win customers. While the sandwich was fairly tasty, the fries were obviously frozen and then thrown into a deep fat fryer to warm them up, sure looked and tasted like Orida to me! Well upon looking around the place, he also does not like to clean, the place was filthy and I am a bachelor! Still I thought it was disgusting! The vents have never been cleaned, they are dripping with nasty filth, sure am glad I did not have a soda, for I know it would have been worse inside the pop machine.

Seattle. The thing is, I always feel fat and gross after I eat there. Sloppy, cheesy, meaty goodness tends to do that to you. Don't get me wrong though. That bloated feeling is SO worth it. The cheesy fries are smothered in fake cheesy goodness and you shouldn't miss out on those either. I always get my good to go, the ambiance isn't super great. It's always super cold in there and often has teens from Garfield in there hanging out. Not to mention the dust hanging from the ceiling... =/

WAYYYYY too salty! Plus, this Philly girl likes real Cheez Whiz, not thin/watery stuff. And it's scummy inside.

  • Tyler J.

There are three places I HAVE to go to when I come back to Seattle.and Philly's Best is definitely one of them! Not only does it have the best cheestakes I have every had (although I have not been to Philadelphia), but it also brings back memories of my highschool days when the Original, Original Philly's was in the Central District. Can't go wrong with anything here. I usually go with the chicken or steak deluxe. Call ahead if you don't feel like waiting 10-20 minutes to get your order. And if you haven't tried the fries, TRY THEM. If anyone knows what seasoning they put on them PLEASE let me know. Grab a fork on your way out too, cause this aint no subway sandwich!

This is by far THE BEST CHEESESTEAK in Seattle. No other establishment can make a philly cheesesteak like this one. For just $7.99, I get a foot-long Deluxe Steak which consists of thinly, sliced juicy chunks of steak, melted white american cheese, grilled mushrooms, grilled peppers, grilled hot peppers, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, and mayo in a 12-inch soft baguette. When I bite into it, all of the drippings meld into my mouth and slides from the corner of mouth, down my chin and onto my clothes. I never care about this because the sandwich is so delicious, that I just don't stop eating until I have finished my first half of the sandwich. I save the second half for another meal to make it more cost effective. Another great meal deal is the Cheese Fries with Steak for just $4.49. This side -- or main meal if you wish because it is so humongous -- dish includes a mound of crispy crinkle cut fries with juicy thinly-sliced pieces of steak, melted cheddar cheese, and grilled onions served on top. The oozing cheese all over is very copious. If you add some of the hot sauce in the squeeze bottle on the counter, the dish gets even HOTTER!! Only negative about this place is that there is quite a wait for your order because there is usually only one cook and one person at the counter for very many customers. But I don't care, because every minute I spend waiting is worth it. The food is that good and I never have any complaints about my food. This is a family-owned business which I completely support. Shute, I even support them when I go to a Seahawks game and their truck is waiting outside the Seahawks store. And they charge $6.00 instead of $4.99 for their half deluxe cheesesteak. That is how much I love this philly cheesesteak. I am just never disappointed.

Not much to say about the atmosphere (typical dumpy hole in the wall, and full of teenagers), so get your food to go, but if you have a craving for some real Philly shit then I can tell you this is certainly as real as it gets in Seattle*. Sure, I've had better...you know, in Philly, and oddly enough in Burbank, CA at a place called Philly's Best, but The Original Philly's can definitely satisfy all your cheesesteak and steak fries needs right here in the Pac NW. Apparently they have a food truck that hangs out at Safeco and Qwest during games and I fully intend to take advantage this summer when the Phillies are in town! I got a half deluxe steak sandwich and the cheese fries with steak and I'm good to go for the rest of the day. *Obviously not totally authentic, but I maintain that you will probably not find better around here.

  • J K.

Wow. Good stuff. Huge and highly-satisfying sandwiches. The fries aren't bad either. People need to get down here and check this place out. It's a little run down though and they're a little too liberal with the mayo.

My coworker tried this place a few weeks ago and has been talking about it ever since. Since she is very picky about what qualifies as "good" food, I knew it had to be good for her to keep bringing it up. Today, I made the run for lunch and was not disappointed. Got stopped at a bunch of lights on the way back to Belltown and coudln't resist taking a bite... which lead to devouring my whole sandwich before I hit the parking lot. Super good. Juicy. Lots of peppers, onions, etc. Good flavor on the beef. Perfect ratio of mayo. Fries had great seasoning. Well worth the trip from Belltown.

This place was a great find. It isn't the easiest lot to get into depending which side of MLK/Rainier you are coming from, but once you figure it out you'll find it was worth the drive around the block to get in. There are very few Philly places in Seattle, and this is certainly one worth trying. They have a simple menu, and for one reason: The things they do they do really well, and don't stray from that. I won't be ballsy enough to say they are "authentic" Philly because everyone has their own interpretation of what that is. But I will say that they are delicious. And well priced. A full sandwich results in one the size of my arm, stuffed full with meaty, cheesy, oniony and peppery goodness--the kind of goodness that drips down your hand and into your lap. Nom nom. Service is quick, food is fresh and hot (I burned my lip one time--I know you are excited to dig in but blow on it first so you don't scorch your tastebuds!). My only complaint is that the space itself seems a bit shabby and could use a deep clean and a fresh coat of paint. But I've also learned that sometimes the grungy places are the most delicious. Check em out. I dare you to say you didn't like it.

My one visit here was a good one. Ordered the pizza cheese steak which is just like a regular one but with pepperoni added to it and cheese fries. Definitely filling and very tasty. Good value for the price and good service. Located on a very busy intersection but they do have their own parking spaces on the lot.

Popular place with the bonus of having a small parking lot. A lot of cheesesteak combinations and customizations plus other sandwich on the menu. Atmosphere is a typical hole in the wall neighborhood fixture and a hardworking, no nonsense staff. Although nothing beats a cheesesteak from Philadephia, I really like the hot cheesy goodness and generous portions of this place.

Definitely the best cheesesteak I've had in some time. I had the Deluxe steak, and the only thing I would change is no lettuce next time. The rest was perfect. Bread didn't get too soggy. I like Philadelphia Fevre, but this is a step above in my opinion. Next time, I definitely plan to try some cheese fries as well... I need a couch.

MUSHROOM STEAK PLEASE!!! When a girl has gotta have her beef, just stop on in... The beef is sliced ever so thinly, seasoned and flavorful! The mushrooms are FRESH not canned! It's messy so get extra napkins, spice it up with some peppa's wash it down with a cold brew! DON'T FORGET THE FRIES!!! Now leave me the -H- -E- double hockey sticks alone and let me get busy!

I love this place. I got my usual, the Deluxe cheese steak. Basically a cheese steak filled with bell peppers, grilled onions, tomatoes, lettuce, mushrooms, and mayo. I've tasted their regular cheese steak, hich is awfully delicious too. I like getting the most bang out of my buck, so the Deluxe is my natural choice. You might think a $8-9 whole Philly cheese steak might be over priced, but it's totally worth it. I wouldn't get the fries or anything else since it's so much already, but if you're up for it -- get the cheese fries. Other than Tat's, this is definitely a good cheese steak.

After 10 or so years of driving by and never trying this place, I had my first visit yesterday when the place I was going to go to only took cash and I didn't have any. Plus - They take visa, mastercard, and even amex! I normally love hole-in-the-walls and I was really hoping this would be our new place for cheesesteaks, especially being so close to home. Prices are good for sure. Whole cheesesteak sandwich (12+ inches) fu lly loaded for $7.99! Can't beat that. However, not knowing what a authentic cheesesteak from Philly actually tastes like, I was quite disappointed. I read all the reviews on Yelp first and expected good things. Deluxe Cheesesteak - the steak is chopped so small that it blends in with all the cheese and from a texture standpoint, it doesn't even feel like there's steak in the sandwich. Peppers, onions and especially tomatoes were skimped on which didn't help because I love those toppings. It really felt like I was just eating a cheese sandwich. Again, not having tasted an authentic cheesesteak, I might be judging unfairly, but I still prefer the cheesesteaks I get from the mall - even if those break the bank at over $10 for one. On the flip side, fries were good and they do server beer!

I've never been a fan of philly cheesesteak, but after coming here I might have to change my perspective on that! The pepper cheesesteak was fantastic! Loaded with bell pepper, jalapeno, and other seasoning which really enhanced the greatness of the sandwich! We also had the deluxe that was loaded with EVERYTHING and the cheese fries were hot and fresh right out the fryer topped with cheese and seasoning. Final thoughts: Definately a must try if you have never been before!

they only had one fryer which they use for fish fries and chicken. which means you muist wait until everyone that comes in after you gets served before you if you order fried food. the hot cheese steak came without the cheese. they have no clue how to run a business how to serve a customer or how to make a philly cheese steak, they suck

Remember when this place was the old fish n' chips joint? Philly cheese steaks done right and damn good Italian hoagies to boot. Chopped up steak mixed up with cheese and your choice of other toppings. The surprise for me was that the other night, Mrs. T was craving a cheese steak, but I on the other hand saw the picture of the Italian hoagie on the counter and said "That's the ONE!". I felt like Cliff Huxtable from the Cosby Show drooling over what would be one of the better sandwiches I've had. Nothing sexy....a mix of salami, capaccola, and some other processed meat, onions, lettuce, cheese, tomato, and a nice Italian dressing. Nothing more, nothing less. Sometimes you want a comfortable sandwich instead of a "gourmet" sandwich a la panini... Get them for takeout cuz it's damn cold in there in the winter and damn hot in there in the summer.

I was rollin' with my homies down Rainier Ave S the other day just chillin' when I got hungry. OK so I wasn't really rollin' with my homies but part of me felt like I should have been. I saw the sign for the The Original Philly's and thought why not a chicken cheese steak sounds tasty right about now. All that rollin' got me hungry you know, plus I had an hour to kill. I placed my order, one half mushroom chicken cheese steak, an order of cheese fries and some water (they are Pepsi people) for here please. I took a seat in one of the booths it wasn't dirty but it wasn't clean either actually it was more old than unclean. My food is delivered to me, I like it lots of food for less than ten bucks, that's kind of hard to do in this city. The cheese fries reminded me of the cheese fries I use to get as a kind with the neon yellow-ish orange-ish cheese. They were bad but in a good way. The chicken cheese steak was a bit salty for me and lacking the cheese, well there was a little bit of cheese but not a lot, thankfully I had some cheese I could spare from my fries to complete my sandwich. I was not about to confront the cook here and complain I felt it would be in my best interest to just shut up and eat so I did. It was good in a bad way where the bread was soggy due to the grease. They do offer things besides cheese steak sandwiches. You can get hoagies, fish and chips, wings and they even have veggie items for you non meat eaters out there. Oh and if you're from the east coast and craving a TastyKake guess what you can get one here! My favorite part of my meal was listening to the girls behind me talking. One girl was talking about how Monique was all axein her where she got her hair did at cuz she liked it. Than the other girl was talking about how Frosty, her baby daddy, was in jail cuz he beat up Pookie, Pookie being her other baby daddy. This conversation truly added to the whole Philly cheese steak eating experience. I say go for the cheese steak but stay for the table conversation.

I spent 23 years of my life in Philly, so I know what a cheesesteak is (hint, not Pat's and Geno's). The steaks here are damned close to the real thing, largely due to the fact they get their rolls from Philly! I think that's enough of an endorsement, as decent cheesesteaks are almost impossible to find once you leave Philly/Southern Jersey. Note that the prices are rather high for cheesesteaks, but that's the going rate in Seattle (Tat's charges even more for lesser quality).

Food = 2 stars maybe? Service = -5? I heard good things about this place so we went. Brutal. Walked in, bad service. The person taking our order asked 3 time if we were staying there ad eating or taking it to go. We ordered two sandwiches and a drink and got charged $23. He added 2 orders of fries to our order. We took a seat, and 10 minutes later, no food. Hub went to the front and they acted like he was new and they didn't know his order. Hub told them and they said they would deliver our food. Fast forward another 10, still no food. We go up again and inquire, and he acts like he doesn't know who we are. We tell him the order and 5 minutes late he gives it to us. No apologies. So random. And the worst part is that it wasn't even good. It wasn't cheesy at all. The meat was dry. Not worth my time.

I'm glad I thought of this place when I was in the neighborhood. I forgot how much I miss eating a Philly Cheese Steak sandwich. If you order in you don't have to wait for your order, they will deliver to your table with a 'ketchup or hot sauce?'. Besides the onions, I want to know what season they use on their beef! It has a lot of 'flavah' flavor. I had ordered their Cheese Steak sandwich. All that chopped beef with the onions and cheese all wrapped up in their soft, chewy french roll. MMM...MM...*M!!!!!*! With the sandwich this is a MUST, you have to order your OWN Cheese Fries! DO NOT SHARE WITH ANYONE. They are the crinkle fries with dollop of yummy cheezy-weez. OH and another thing, make sure you order the WHOLE sandwich. Even if you only finish half the sandwich, the other half will be your midnight snack. A MUST GO! =)

Whenever we are in the mood for cheesesteak in my household, we always say, with attempted deep television voice "philly philllllls!". The food is good. It always hits the spot to satiate that need-cheese-and-steak-sammich hankerin. I think it's a tiny bit over-priced, but that's all of Seattle, so I don't hold it against them. The bread always tastes fresh, and the wait time is minimal, unless you happen to catch the tail end of one of their rushes -- and they do get rushes. The food comes out hot and gooey and all that cheesesteak is supposed to be. The intersection is strange, so it's best to approach coming South down Rainier, so as to hit it on your right at MLK. The interior is a little sketchy, sure, but so are MOST cheesesteak places. Let's not get pretentious. We would most certainly rather Not utilize the high chair, and there's no way in hell I'm letting our little one play under the table, but we absolutely have, and will continue to, sit in the dining area with no qualms. I'm not at a cheesesteak joint because I want to run a white-glove test on the place. There's always something "sports" on the TV. There are some old skool cocktail table arcade games which bring on some serious nostalgia. Here's the thing. Per others' comments, I'm not sure if it's a race issue, but I have definitely felt as if my presence didn't matter. Coming from a strong customer service background, I always told the kids that worked for me that no matter what -- always address people who walk in the door with a smile and a hello, because they never know why they're not being welcomed with warmth, and may take it personally. I've definitely come in a few times and felt like I was bothering the counter guy to place my order, and I've never been sure why it seems that way. That never feels good. Today, however, a rather tall gentleman was working the second half of our order, and I thought he was great. He was warm and welcoming and offered to bring our order out as we wrangled the two year old. And he smiled! Maybe that was it, hell, sometimes a smile is all it takes right? Either way, he was on top of it, and I really appreciate it. Honestly, the customer service rating averages out at around 2.75. The food a solid 4. I would give this a 3.5 but that isn't an option, so I'm going to round up. Take it to go, call it in for carry-out, or enjoy the experience - any way you wanna do it, you deserve a good sammich, and this place delivers it.

Once you get past the blue smoke and weird neighborhood area, you'll get into a very flavorful cheesesteak sandwich and some well seasoned fries that tickled my taste buds perfectly.

"You Got Me So Hypnotized The Way Your Hoagie Rolling Round And Round, The Cheesesteak Jumping, Onions Bouncing, Up And Down"! Now, just like that, yes just like that, now shake that spatula and make a "Yelper" like me, spend that cash! It's 12 O'Clock and it's lunch time, I'm hyped up and I'm hungry, all I need is some money, cause this place is "CASH ONLY" (Credit/Debit, Now Accepted!), that "Cheesesteak" got my stomach moaning. The Original Philly's stand up, clap for them, clap for them, clap for them, hey, one-love for filling the void left by the dearly beloved, R.I.P. "Philly's Best"...and for keeping it hood with "Cheeseseteak" bad as hell and so swole!

I only had a whole bread sandwich ( Cheese Steak) at this place and it was way too salty. I know they may have tasty cakes and put Old bay on there fries, but when you think of Philly you think of Cheese Steaks, greasy, cheesy, mountain of meat & onions and if you want to be a little healthy you make it a Cheese Steak Hogie, that's adding L&T. I know I lived in West Philly For some years. I would have been better of going to Subway. Try Tat's there the best so far. The search continue

yes. so happy i finally tried this place. I got a recommendation for a guy who just moved to Seattle from Philly. He had been a DJ for years on one of Philly's rock stations. Very cool guy and pretty much in the know of local culture and food. He basically said what everyone that knows said on here. It's about as close to a real cheesesteak as you are going to get outside of Philly and besides that, it's also good. I really really love this place. It made my east coast wife very happy. From the Old Bay on the cheese fries to the tasty cakes, it totally made her day. She told me i was very lucky we hadn't been then before or during her pregnancy or i would have been there everyday. It's not the shortest drive from Ballard...

ABSOLUTELY the best Philly Cheesesteak I've ever had. As others have said, the inside of the place is pretty dumpy. I wouldn't eat inside so take these to go but you will NOT be sorry. They are a little peppery so just know that. The meat is not long strips, its like minced up meat. But dear lord, these things are AWESOME!

gut bomb? hells yes! i was fiendin' for a philly cheese steak so i thought i'd give this joint a try. i remember coming here when it was pacific fish and chips as a kid. i'm sad that place is gone (i'm gonna give pike st fish fry a try as their spiritual successor). anyways, this place is a bit grimey, just the way a hood spot's supposed to be. I came here on a saturday afternoon and there was a mad line. i think they were running behind or something. staff was a little surly. i ordered a deluxe with a side of cheese fries. both were meh. not much meat for the sammich (oh how i miss philly's best back in the day) and the fries needed to be fried longer or in hotter oil. both sat in my stomach like a brick. haha. i dunno if i'd be back anytime soon.
