Sushi Today Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

I've been craving sushi like CRAZY the past few weeks and dinner with a friend provided the perfect opportunity to try Sushi Today. This place may look a little drab on the outside, but they certainly wowed me. The interior of Sushi Today doesn't really have a theme, but it's all pretty modern and new decor, which is nice. And it's very clean, which I would hope to see in a sushi joint. It took us a while to order because we had no idea what some of the menu meant. Nigiri sushi? Sashimi? What????? The waitress was very kind and she walked us through the differences which helped a lot! She was really nice and very polite and always made sure our waters were full, too. The service was A1 for sure. I ended up ordering the FireCracker roll, which came with a side of miso soup and salad. The miso was probably one of the best that I've tried. It's perfectly salted and I didn't have to add anything! The salad was really good too - I normally hate salad dressings at Asian restaurants but their's was amazinggg. It was like balsamic based, and I normally hate balsamic, so that's how good it was. The FireCracker roll has like 12 pieces, which is awesome because they're all pretty good sized so you end up getting very full! The FireCracker comes packed with tuna, avocado, cucumber, and with another piece of raw tuna laid on top, and then it's topped with a spicy mayo. And when I say spicy, I mean SPICY. I'm pretty sensitive to spice though, so it might not be that bad... Despite the heat, I looooved it. Full of flavor, full of spice, and tastes SO fresh. On top of that, everything was only $13. My friend got the bento box, in which you get to pick 2 items on top of two california rolls, salad, and rice (for only $10.95!!!!) - she picked tempura and chicken katsu. The tempura wasn't as crunchy as I normally like, but the katsu was amazing (it was my first time trying chicken katsu). All in all, I'm so glad that I finally got the chance to try Sushi Today. It exceeded my expectations and was WAY better than shitty ass SushiLand in the area. I'll definitely be back and highly recommend this to sushi lovers in the area!

What a fantastic surprise! This will be our new stop, when doing an IKEA run. The rolls were delicious, and the fish was very fresh. Their crispy salmon skin salad is scrumptious--I'm wishing I had some salmon skin around, to crisp up! In the evening, there was no wait. I can imagine that lunch time gets busy...but it makes me wish they were located in my neighborhood! I'd be ordering takeaway every night!

Phoned in and ordered carry out. Got the southwestern poke and the gangster roll with a side of miso soup. When I showed up, the staff was super friendly and offered me water while I waited. They had only been open for half an hour but the restaurant was PACKED. I figured that was a good sign. I enjoyed my food at work and am tempted to dine in next time. Try the gangsta roll, the southwestern poke is a MUST. This place is great!

I was in the area getting my nails done and was really hungry, I saw this place next door and decided to stop and get some sushi. It looks like one of those places where you would expect the sushi to not be good, (when you see it you will know what I mean) but I decided to give it a shot anyway. When I came in, the sweet old hostess seated me right away and brought me edamame and miso soup with my water. She was so sweet and cute! I ordered the golden state and firecracker roll. The food came so fast and let me just be honest, it was good!!! The sushi was fresh and crunchy and tasted delicious. It was one of those meals that you didn't want it to end haha! Also let me mention the prices were really good, especially for the about of sushi you get. This place is probably one of the best I've had in the area, I am definitely coming back to try more items in the menu!! Overall: 10/10 Food 10/10 Service 11/10 (the hostess treats you like you are her grandchild coming over to her house for food)

Why aren't people lining up outside this place? Sushi Today is SO good!!!! We had a wonderful dinner here starting with our first interaction with the super friendly staff! Everyone from our waiter to the sushi chef were so attentive and kind! We started with complimentary salad wish was delicious! The dressing was a ginger soy vinaigrette which we really enjoyed. Next was the complimentary, hot delicious miso soup! Nothing like a hot bowl of soup! Our sushi rolls were so good! By far some of the best sushi I have ever had. The tuna was SO fresh, I felt it was caught today! We will definitely be back really soon!

I came here on a nice slow day due to the raving reviews! I haven't found a decent sushi place but this hit the spot. It's a small sushi shop but their sushi rolls are delicious and they offer complimentary miso soup as well! I tried their bento box and unagi maki rolls and the proportion for the bento box was unreal!! I had it with chicken Katsu and the shrimp tempura (perfectly fried). It was about only $10 for the bento box! Overall review: great sushi place, good selection, complimentary soup, and try their bento boxes!

I have to admit, I didn't believe all the good reviews prior to eating here. How good could a strip mall sushi joint be???? Well... My apologies to the owner. This is seriously the best hidden secret in Southcenter/Tukwila/Renton area!!! Service was A+, I had a spicy tuna roll, ikura, ebi, unagi nigiri pieces and everything was extremely fresh! My wife is very picky when it comes to Japanese food, she doesn't like sashimi(raw fish) and she LOVED this place. We'll definitely be back!!!!

Our first time here. Seated immediately and we chose to sit at the bar close to the entrance. Service was a little slow because it seems the server had to take care of the entire restaurant. The sushi chef stepped in and took our orders. We were impressed. Sushi was fresh. Portion size good. Rice was perfect. Not too sticky or chewy. Low sodium soy sauce available. Clean plating. Wasabi not watered down. Just enough ginger. Like a beautifully orchestrated play, everything was perfect. As far as the drinks, we ordered Nigori. They only offered the Japanese version which we were happy to try. It had an unusual sour taste. Somehow the sweet sour balance complemented the sushi. Always open to new experiences. All in all, I will be back. It's a non-pretentious place offering wonderfully fresh fish.

Finally! A great quality sushiya in the Renton area! I'm pretty sure that this place is family owned (There is this cute old lady who fills your water and asks if the food is up to your liking... She is so cute!). The restaurant looks fairly new and very well maintained. I ventured to this place on a Friday night because I didn't want to drive all the way to Seattle to satisfy my (very often) sushi cravings. We were greeted and seated right away; it wasn't too busy. Now, the other tables around us were ordering chicken teriyaki and other shenanigans which made me hesitant to want to order sushi. However, those people are totally missing out because the sushi here IS A1 (like the steak sauce!)! We ordered the Gyoza to start, the Bento Box with Chicken Teriyaki and Mixed Tempura, the Gangsta Roll and the Mountain roll. After we ordered we were given complimentary miso soup and a yummy side salad with soy ginger dressing, I suppose? It was good! The gyoza and the mountain roll sadly did not wow me at all. The gyoza was pan-fried so the bottom was really crisp and the insides were juicy. If you're into fully cooked/baked sushi, I would suggest getting the mountain roll with a side of spicy mayo. It is basically a tuna roll with cucumber and carrots topped with salmon and thin fried noodles(?) all fully baked and cooked. The roll was pipping hot when it got to our table and it was the last thing on our order to be delivered to us. I was so excited to try it that I burned my tongue trying to get the first bite! The bento box was perfect. The chicken teriyaki was very tender and almost melted into my mouth as I was chewing. You could also tell that the tempura was fried fresh because of how light and crisp it was. The bento also came with two pieces of California roll, which was delish! The crab was very finely chopped and the rice had just the right amount of vinegar. The Gangsta roll stole the show for me. It is a California roll topped with seared salmon, ikura (salmon roe) and thinly sliced onion with a light sweet soy sauce. OH MY LANTA. Let me tell you guys that that roll was one of the best tasting rolls I have ever had in a casual sushiya setting. It was freakin' delicious. I almost cried. If you ever venture out to Sushi Today, I would totally suggest getting this roll. The service was very good; the food all came out at very good quality. We had to ask to get our waters filled, but that was only because they were reaching peak dinner hours so the restaurant was somewhat filling up! They were really apologetic about it! Even the cute old lady said sorry and it made my heart melt *squeals!*. I was excited to try this place. Now that I have, I'm even more excited to return! I need to try the other sushi rolls. I just wish my stomach had the capacity to do so in one sitting. 5 stars all the way!

Needed a sushi fix and we were in the Renton area. At first I was really hesitant on going to eat sushi around this area then saw the reviews on Yelp. Believe them because this place is great. The staff are super friendly. We ordered a lot of rolls, sashimi, etc and all of them were high quality. The fish was very fresh and they didn't have all these crazy sauces like some other places. Check out the photos. The prices are very fair and portion size is great. I really liked the complimentary miso soup, side salad, and ice cream mochi. I'll definitely come back here!!

I think this place is relatively new because I just noticed it recently and ever since, I've been wanting try it. So my friend and I came in to see what they have. It's a sit down restaurant with a sushi bar.. No kaiten/belt. It's very clean, simple, and spacious inside! Our greeting was friendly. Pretty good service. I was expecting a "hey how are you! Let us tell you about our restaurant!".. But I didn't get that (I secretly wish I did). it's okay! I'll pester them about their business next time I visit lol. They gave us complimentary miso soup as soon as we put in our orders and it was very good and super hot. Just the way I like my soup! I was craving a chirashi bowl but I couldn't find it on the menu so I asked if they could made it, and he said yes! 10 points right there! My friend got the spicy salmon roll and 6 piece gyoza. The gyoza was nothing special to me. The wrapping has a nice chew to it, and it had a very slight crisp from the pan fry on one side but it would have been a lot tastier and textural if they fried it a little more. The sauce that came with it, though, was delicious! I liked it more than the gyoza haha it was salty, savory, and slightly spicy. Mmmm. With her spicy salmon roll, her total was only $11 for lunch! Not bad at all! My chirashi bowl was nearly $20. I was hesitant on getting it because of the price but he let me know it was a big size. And it was! 12-13 pieces of sashimi, julienned ika mixed with tobiko, 2-3 slices of tako, small octopus salad, one piece of unagi, two pieces of tamago... Full of yummy fish and cephalopods. He asked me if it had everything I wanted as he was handing it to me, and I appreciated that he cared about my expectations. 10 more points right there! Quality and portion size was great for the price. I was very satisfied by the end of it and I didn't even finish the rice. I definitely felt I ate $20 dollars worth in quality and quantity. The woman who rang us up was an old sweet lady. I just wanna run up and hug and squish her; she is so adorable. She made us sit back down when we tried to get up and pay so she could bring us our check instead ahaha. Great family-run restaurant, good quality fish, decent pricing. Come try it out! Support ya local businesses!

Arrived post lunch and pre dinner rush. Perfect timing. Quick service. Fresh sushi. Reasonable portions. I prefer white ginger but they serve red. Delicious specialties. Other non sushi selections available. Tucked away in a strip mall but easy to locate and ample parking. Entire staff very friendly! Read about Gangsta roll in Yelp reviews so I tried it. EXCELLENT!!!! That is all. Lol

Great food and great price at this local sushi spot! We came for lunch on a Saturday and it wasn't too busy. We started with the seafood tempura which had a light and crispy batter and a very good mix of fish, shrimp and veggies. We followed that up with a refreshing salmon skin salad. As for the sushi, we ordered a party plate which isn't even on the menu. This is a "name your own price and preference" and the sushi chef will concoct a plate with the types of sushi you want (nigiri, sashimi, rolls) at your price (think $30, $40, $50+ price points). Very good value and very nice and fresh. Service was great too.

Cozy atmosphere, fair prices, delicious food, and clean bathrooms. The portion sizes of the food were perfect for my dad and I, even with the miso soup and salad. The waitress & sushi chefs were also very friendly. Very good experience and I plan on being back. :)

Was planning on going to miyabi but the wait was too long, so I used yelp for help and found this place, and I boy this place is the bomb! I would highly recommend this place and will be coming back here.

This unassuming restaurant doesn't seem like the sort of place that would have the best sushi in town, but that's exactly what it is. I've tried a lot of sushi joints all across Seattle, from cheap conveyor belts to high-end restaurants, and Sushi Today is among the best. My girlfriend and I discovered this place about a month ago and have gone back several times since. Each time the sushi has been very, very good. They have a large selection of rolls and sashimi at reasonable prices - not cheap, but certainly not overpriced. The Crunch Crunch and Firecracker Roll are personal favorites. You always get miso soup and a small salad, both of which are quite tasty. The staff has always been very friendly and courteous. Most of the wait staff is very quiet and soft spoken, but one of the waiters is more outgoing and personable. In either case, service was always fast and efficient. Highly recommended.

When I'm visiting seattle, will eat here. Super friendly service and the quality and portions of the sushi is great. Price is fair and decent too. Real good prices for what you get. The topper is the complimentary Mochi ice cream dessert. Fan of this place, highly recommend!

I went here a couple times. Once for lunch and once for dinner. Both times were good. It's a small little place and they serve you a salad and miso soup with every order (at least if you're dining in). Everything is surprisingly good. You definitely have to stop here and go be it a try!

Really good sushi in Renton with a decent price. Came with a group of friends and we all were so painfully full from the delicious foods. We all ordered sushi/sashimi. I got the Aloha rolls with regular salmon in the center and toro on top. Yum yum yum! Husband enjoyed his sashimi plate and poke appetizer. Definitely a family business. A grandma was our server and she was so sweet. They came by often to check how we were doing and filled waters. The mochi ice cream is sooo good! Strawberry actually has strawberry in it! So horrible how close it is to my place.

Love the interior and atmosphere of this place! Reminds me of Japan in some cases. Sushi is my guilty pleasure and I review a lot of sushi places and I gotta say that this place is great, but not the best (speaking from experience). Well thought out place and really love the customer service they provided. I also love their food! I had ordered a bunch of sashimi and they were delicious, but again, not the best. They're good but not "Miyabi" GOOD (southcenter pkwy). They did take quite a while to make me just 5 sashimi, which was kind of disappointing. Usually at sushi places I've been to doesn't take 30 mins to make them. However, their pricing is fairly decent, not too expensive either. I am not trying to say this place is bad or anything, but from my experience as a sushi enthusiast that their sushi wasn't the best I've had. I recommend other places first before going here such as "Sushi Roll Roll Roll" (in Renton), "California Monster Sushi" (in Kent), and of course "Miyabi Restaurant" (as mentioned above). I definitely recommend this place! Great presentation and great service.

It is absolutely official. This place is my new go-to sushi restaurant. Forget about going downtown for super fresh and delicious sushi, this place is fantastic. It was almost surprising how wonderful it was. It's located in the corner of two adjoining strip malls right next door to a children's consignment clothing shop. If you head in towards the Jimmy John's you won't miss it. It's a newer restaurant with very clean and minimalistic decor. When you first walk in you are met by a chef standing there behind the sushi counter to greet you as you come in, which is a nice touch. We were there a few days ago for a New Year's Eve lunch. The husband and I wanted a lighter lunch before we had our New Year's Eve Dinner. The waittress/hostess was THE sweetest woman. She was so kind, calm and patient that she definitely added to the positive experience. We ordered: the Tempura Appetizer (2 Shrimp, 4 veg $6.50), the Negihama (yellowtail and scallions $5.95), the Unagi Roll ($6.95), and the Greenwich Roll (shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, cucumber, avocado on top with spicy mayo and chili sauce $9.95). We started our meal with a complimentary Miso Soup that was so fresh and hot that warmed us right up. It was a little chilly when we first arrrived but they made it a little warmer in there and the steamy broth was absolutely perfect. We were also given a small garden salad with a savory vinagarette. It was cool and crisp, and just the right amount to start off our meal. The Tempura was so fresh that it scalded us a bit (but that could have also have been because we were super jazzed to try them). The shrimp were so tender, fresh, and perfectly cooked that it officiated its status as THE best shrimp tempura that we have ever had. No, seriously, officially the best. The Negihama was fresh, smooth, the scallions were crisp and such a nice contrast in taste and texture. The Unagi was warm, and almost creamy. The rolls were larger so there were fewer of them, but you can immediately tell that the eel was freshly baked and properly sauced. The Greenwich Roll was knock-your-socks off good. I feel like I'm a teenage girl with a crush on a sushi restaurant. This place is amazing, and the wonderful service, clean decor, and incredibly fresh ingredients. I hope they keep up this incredibly high level of attention to detail, because if they do, they will be here for a very long time. Also, if they had a Happy Hour, then they would probably become the Cheers to our Norm and Cliff.

Good quality sushi, slow service. I went here with my boss at lunch hour and wait 20 mins before they took our order. Good place to lunch if you are not in a hurry.

  • Chris P.

First thing to note: don't let the location fool you! I was pretty skeptical at first but that all quickly changed. This place has some of the BEST sushi rolls, teriyaki, and bento that i've had. You can tell they go the extra mile in cooking everything (from the meats to the rice) just right and not overcooked like at most teriyaki places. Before you know it, you'll begin to wonder how you ever ate teriyaki anywhere else. The price is reasonable and the service is superb. Go check em out!

A very friendly lady cleared some doubts I had about the menu and then I ordered the sushi dinner plate that's a combination of different sushis plus California rolls. I thought it wouldn't be enough because it doesn't look much by the picture in the menu and I was very hungry. I'm not that kind of person who eats a lot per meal but I don't eat too little either. It wasn't just enough but I also could save some to eat later. The same happened to my husband. He ordered another option that I don't remember now and he thought it wouldn't be enough. But he felt satisfied before all the food had gone. Everything looked fresh, pretty well put together, the flavor was great and the price fair. I'm just giving 4 stars because they don't offer the miso soup to go. I recommend and will return.

Step aside Swedish meatballs! Located just east of the Ikea, this is a really nice little sushi restaurant south of Renton. Everyone greeted us when we walked in and the middle-aged hostess was so sweet in making small talk as she sat us. The menu has a lot of fun rolls that I don't think I've seen anywhere else. My wife and I had different opinions on how hot the spicy rolls were, but I'll defer to her and keep it at 5 stars (I'd have knocked one off because I thought it wasn't spicy at all). We ordered edamame, tempura, and two rolls. Then the nice hostess brought over some salad and some soup, which was so sweet. We were stuffed by the end of it.

Awesome sushi. We're visiting from the San Fran Bay Area, and this sushi competes hands down. Very gracious hostess. Great miso soup. Excellent salad. Totally awesome sushi made with very fresh fish.

I love this place. So much. A little slow on the service, but they're cheerful and pleasant. Almost every roll we have ever ordered has been delicious including the Firecracker, Crunch Crunch, Special Agent and Rainbow, among others. Their chicken teriyaki was delicious also and I love that you receive complimentary miso soup (also amazingly good).

This is my favorite sushi place and my favorite dinner spot of all time to go to. I go often for a full 3 course meal by myself as a treat once a week, and then I order rolls to go home for the next day. It's reasonably priced, great portion sizes, super fresh sashimi and well prepared and the service is as if you were the number one customer every time. The older woman server is so adorable and sweet, and the sushi chef and back cook often stop by to make sure everything tastes up to par. After my meal tonight it was slower trafficked and the chef even made me a complimentary orange bear dessert. They serve complimentary soup, salad and tea, and if you're looking for seafood tempura, this place can't be beat, even the squid melted in my mouth, I don't know how they did it. I go often, and I hope this place prospers, they deserve it (I made a yelp account just to give them a good review)

Gem of a find in a small commercial plaza. Best sushi in Renton area hands down. Prices are a bit pricey, but for sushi its normal. They have a great selection of rolls and sushi. My.favorite is a custom spicy tuna roll made dragon style. Would def go on a Monday or Tuesday dinner for most fresh fish. Will be coming back

I visit Renton for work twice per month and was so happy when I finally walked into this little gem next door. The staff is very friendly, the sushi chefs are funny and want to get to know you. They have catered to even my pickiest requests and even remember what I like when I come back to visit weeks later. The food is surprisingly good and the establishment is clean and welcoming. I have been looking for a good sushi spot in the area and this is certainly it. I highly recommend the bento box. The saba shio is to die for. They use high quality fish and their cuts are lovely. The bentos come with a couple pieces of california roll. I request mine without cucumber, so they are always making the roll in a different shape, which I think is cute.

Must. Have. Urchin. I've literally had it cracked out of the shell and this tastes fresher and more buttery than that. We also loved the crossfire roll, super spicy and packed with flavor. Our server was amazing. Always refilled our waters and even gave us ice water for our pup. Definitely will be back!

Absolutely delicious. I haven't been disappointed by one thing here. I love the complimentary salad and miso soup. The sushi has been very good. We usually get a combination of rolls and sushi. I like the crossfire roll and the mango tango roll. The staff are friendly and attentive. One of my favorite sushi places.

Wonderful food. Glad we found this one on Yelp. Complimentary miso soup and nice house salad. Very, very sweet lady served us and said it was her son's restaurant. We loved the fried soft shelled crab. Durango roll was our favorite. Very quality sushi made with care. You might not think much of it from the outside but this has to be one of the better sushi restaurants I've been to in Renton. Highly recommend it.

  • Jordan M.

Sushi was amazing! You can tell the fish is very fresh, the gyoza was made very well (not frozen like most places). We loved the playboy roll, but we also had the Durango, special agent, and firecracker and they were all delicious. My sisters had teriyaki chicken in their bento box and the sauce was perfect. Also, the miso soup was spot on too. Definitely recommend coming here, I think you'll be happy with any item ordered!

Really really good sushi. We have gone here a handful of times. Both my husband and I agree that this place is better than Miyabi sushi. The price in Sushi Today suits our budget better also. We always get the Philadelphia Roll. It has smoked salmon, avocado, and cream cheese. Today we tried the spicy tuna roll, it's really really good. It's spicy enough for me, but not too spicy for my husband, so just perfect level of spiciness. They give you complimentary miso soup here. And if you get their specialty roll, it also comes with salad. So glad to have tried this place out! Really good sushi and close to home too!

Miyabi in Tukwila is still my favorite, but this place comes in second on my list and is slighly more conveniently located for me. The "secret agent" roll is my favorite here. I received a salad and miso soup before my roll, which was nice. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. When it comes close to closing time, they dont make you feel like you need to leave asap, they insist that you take your time if you like. They look like a hole in the wall place in a strip mall, but have a clean and pleasant atmosphere. I will continue to go back.

I enjoyed all of my sushi. I had Yankee which was huge and very tasty. What I really enjoy about this place is the size of their rolls and the servings will easily fill you up for a while. The service is A+ with free desert green tea ice-cream. I recommend this place to all of my sushi lovers.

Visited the restaurant for the first time with my boyfriend for lunch a few days ago. We enjoyed everything. Definitely will be coming back again to try the rest of the menu. Very clean inside - as expected for a new restaurant. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Ordered the Crossfire, another roll I can't remember the name of and also hamachi and tai nigiri. (Nigiri is priced for a single piece per order not for 2) The rolls and nigiri were delicious, fresh, and brought out in a timely manner.

My new favorite sushi place! The decor is serene and simple. It is sparkling clean in the restaurant. They were playing an easy listening radio program, so Barry Manilowesque but not too loud. The staff were all friendly and helpful -- we requested and the sushi chef made a substitution for us on the Sushi Dinner, so we got a spicy tuna roll instead of a California roll. It is served with miso soup and a nice salad. The dinner comes with 7 pieces of nigiri and not a single bit of it was octopus (which every other place I've ever been has offered as part of the assortment dinner). This is good for us as octopus isn't our favorite. The fish was fresh and chilled perfectly. The serving sizes were a bit larger than some other places we've been. Everything was attractively served. We ordered the avocado roll (perfectly ripe and chilled) and the cucumber roll (crisp and chilled) and they were quite large -- I couldn't finish them all. One thing -- the menu shows the prices per piece of nigiri, so you might not order enough (most places I've been price it for 2 pieces). But our meal was more than enough food and the bill with tax was around $26.

We came here last minute on Valentine's Day. That being said you would expect a wait anywhere on Valentines Day for dinner, that was the case here as well. We arrived probably around seven or so, so pass the main rush, and were seated within 10 minutes. First of all if you have to wait for a seat, it is not the restaurants fault! You can blame it on those diners that want to sit there at the table over a glass of water and gaze lovingly into each others eyes. I came with my two teenage boys, and these two can really eat if you know teenagers. Service was quick for the place being packed out. there was a table that arrived after us and the owner / hostess did inform them it would be about a 20 minute wait for food, which was nice to let them know. they had a great selection of what I wanted to eat that night. Our meals included a complimentary salad as well with an amazing miso dressing. We ordered probably 4-5 rolls and a shrimp tempura appetizer. Instead of the shrimp one, the hostess brought a regular tempura explaining that the chef actually made the wrong one and it would be another 15 minutes or so for the correct one to come out. since we were starving we just ate the regular temperature. The batter was light and crisp, how it should be. I don't remember what rolls we ordered, as it was about a month ago but everything was beautifully presented and delicious! our bill for the night was less than 60 bucks and they even blocked the temper off for us as well! We didn't even say anything about it and I wasn't expecting to but that was really nice of them. finishing this review, I am thinking about their sushi. I think I will go back if they are still open, right now!

Delicious fresh and wonderfully prepared sushi. Been here few times now and also got a party tray, and everyone enjoyed at the party. I recommend the Draggon roll, and the In and Out roll. They are so good. Very fresh seafood and very clean place. Chef was great with helping me order for the party platter. And the staff is very friendly, clean place.

We are from Philadelphia area and very picky about what sushi restaurant we will go to. We went here for dinner last night and it was amazing! It definitely compares to our favorite sushi restaurant back home. We got four different sushi rolls and they were all very fresh and they hand make the sushi when you order, it's not premade rolls. You get A LOT of sushi rolls with each order. We are used to only getting 6 back home, but it came with 8 or 10 rolls with each order and the rolls were very large too! The place is very clean, service was excellent, and the staff were very friendly also! We will definitely come back here the next time we're in Seattle!

Amazing sushi!! I can't wait to come back! Everything tasted so fresh and was extremely filling! The rolls were huge and delicious! The staff was very attentive and knowledgeable about the sushi. It also came with miso soup and salad with each roll. Right there I'm sold!

Had the bento with chicken katsu, California roll, rice, salad with ginger dressing. Chicken katsu was all white meat and cooked well - crunchy and the to katsu sauce was good! California roll was good flavor and a couple of the rolls fell apart in the shoyu but overall was a great meal.

Very tasty veggie rolls, and my husband said the fish rolls were tasty and very fresh. Definitely glad we checked them out before we headed out of SeaTac!

Decided to try this place based on the positive reviews and did not leave disappointed. The staff was super polite and the place was clean. Now onto the food. We love sushi and there are plenty of good restaurants out there. Sushi Today is up there in rank. They are as good if not better than any other place we've tried in the Seattle area (and outside Washington state too). We ordered several specialty rolls and all of them were delicious. Not only was the food great, but they had beautiful presentation. I don't think I've seen anything as elegant at any other sushi place. I like to get non standard rolls when I can because the blending of flavors can be amazing and I left Sushi Today one happy camper. My hubby was thrilled too and already talking of a return visit.

I love this place! I have only gotten one thing the handful of times I have been here, but I see no reason to change! My fiancé and I share the Bento Box every time with chicken teriyaki and California roll (he doesn't like sushi). There is plenty of food to share. It comes with a large portion of rice, salad, and miso soup. The staff is friendly and usually brings us an extra soup on the house. It is close to my work and the service is also fast - Nice to have a sit down meal and still be done within the hour during lunch rush.

UPDATE as of January 2015 I think I have gone at least twice in the past few weeks and everything has been delicious and perfect. Freshness, grade A+. Service, A+. Presentation, flavor, cuts, A+. UPDATE: as of 12/29/14 I have found some of my favorite dishes, including the seared yellowtail with jalapenos, FANTASTIC! They went out of their way to mention that they do have quail eggs now, and it was DELICIOUS! The service, especially at dinner time and weekends is above and beyond. The only thing at this point that is holding me back from the fifth star is the cuts of sashimi for the yellowtail. It's been 50-50 with the cuts. Maybe the cuts have been a little too close to the tail, making it tougher, and I know I'm being "picky" (says my wife), but please be careful how and where you're cutting the sashimi. The difference between "the most fantastic sushi dinner I've ever had in my life" and "it was a really great sushi dinner but I was disappointed in the Hamachi" is deciding to get those last cuts of fish closer to the tail. ALMOST! I am confident my review will be 5 stars in the foreseeable future! If I could give 4 1/2 stars, I would. FRESHNESS: A PRESENTATION etc.: B SERVICE: A ORIGINAL REVIEW: I'm going to start with 3 stars and see how it goes from here. This place has potential. There are three categories that I like to rate a sushi place. First is freshness, second is presentation/tastiness and third is customer service. 1) the most important and which is why this place has potential, is that the fish is fresh. This is a good foundation. (GRADE: A) 2) Presentation is beautiful, but what comes with presentation is tastiness. Some of the dishes are just missing something. The ahi poke salad is a favorite of mine, and this one is fantastic with the jalepenos, but then there is a chili sauce, which is sort of also spicy. There needs to be a balance in there, maybe some citrus soy or citrus teriyaki, something that balances out the hotness. Some of the rolls are the same way. I had a cross fire, which is an awesome concept, but just missing something. A drizzle of eel sauce? Some citrus soy, something. There is another roll, something enchilada roll, that has a seafood salad piled on top. It's too much. You definitely get your money's worth that's for sure! But it's just too much. Quality over quantity. (GRADE: C) With room for improvement, and I know they can do it. 3) Customer service is wonderful. They seem so very nice and want to please the customer. BUT, once again, there is some room for improvement. It's just a matter of sorting out and organizing the process and getting enough personnel that they get it right. For instance, they might need an additional sushi chef. A couple times I would get all of my food, and whoever I am with waits for 5-10 minutes after I get my entire order before they get their first order. It's organizing and timing. Another time we didn't get our soy sauce dish until we asked. But on the other side of the coin, they bring soup, they bring salad, they refresh our tea throughout, and even give you mochi ice cream for dessert. I'm not sure if this was because our order came out lopsided or that it was busy or if the normal practice is to provide soup and salad and dessert as part of the meal, but it was very considerate and good customer service. Overall, they really want you to be happy. (GRADE: B-) And lastly, my biggest black mark, but can easily be fixed, is that the first time I was here (I've been there maybe 4 times now), they said they have quail eggs, but are out. I've asked every time I go, and every time they are out of quail eggs. It's my personal favorite, but besides that, they shouldn't have teased me and told me they usually have quail egg and then disappoint me 4 times in a row. Please get a good supply of quail eggs because I had a rough childhood and have a hard time dealing with disappointment. Work on these things and I promise, I will give this place 5 stars. There is so much potential, and they are a new establishment.

Love Sushi today!! Their fish is really fresh and their rolls are awesome!! The complimentary miso soup and salad is really great :) The thing that makes them stand out to me is the way they treat my 2 year old little boy!! They are so nice to my son! Last time we were there they brought him some paper to draw on and when she saw him trying my miso soup, she offered to bring some soup to him with some rice in it. As a mom, I am so appreciative that they welcome my toddler into their restaurant!

ALMOST every roll is good. I have tried almost every single one on menu. Miso soup is to die for. You get a complimentary soup and salad for your meal. Drinks are overpriced but man those rolls are fresh. The women who serve are the sweetest ever.

I generally don't write reviews, but this place deserves an exception. Open almost a year now, Clean, fresh, friendly, great atmosphere for what seems to be an odd location to find some fantastic sushi and sashimi. The sashimi lunch special was great. Four different types of fish, 3 pieces each. Generous portions of simply, some of the best I've had in the region. This will be my spot for sushi from now on. It's worth the effort to find. This place is great!

This place is delicious. The sushi chef truly cares for his sushi. He would swing by and ask if it is good and if not why? The quality of the sushi is top notch as well as their sake :) In Seattle for a short time? I recommend this place if you want to try sushi.

I'm very cautious when it comes to eating sushi, but this place was amazing! Whether it was customer service to the sushi, everything was great! I had the Red October. At first, I was afraid the spicy tuna would be too spicy for me, but it was great! Everything in this dish complimented each other, so it was full of flavor. The lady who served was extremely nice and friendly. She was always smiling. My friend had the Yankee and Cherry Blossom, both were extremely tasty! They give you complimentary miso soup along with a small salad. Everything we had there were filled with flavor. We will definitely be back to try out different sushi dishes here.

Been a couple of times with overall positive experience. The service has been average so far on the couple of occasions. The first time during lunch, I received some warm green tea and not any refills. The wife received a $2 canned soda which always come across a bit wrong. It also took quite a long time for the food to come out, but it was plentiful and good. The next time was an early dinner where I received a couple of rolls. White Castle and something else. One was alright and the other was meh... Service again was a bit slow which is funny as the place is not big. Will go back as the food is good and reasonably priced. But it is not a great deal by any means.

  • Randy K.

10 of us went for dinner, including 4 children. The food was great, the staff friendly and accommodating. The sushi was as good or better than anything we've had in in the Seattle area, with very reasonable prices. My wife's teriyaki chicken was very tasty and moist. The restaurant is in a little strip mall, but don't be misled by it's outward appearance. It's a find!

  • Aimy D.

A nice and clean place for sushi. The overall menu is pretty big and you get a good selection of rolls and nigiri. We tried 3 rolls and 1 appetizer. The gyoza was just okay, but the rolls were delicious. The pricing is comparable to places like I Love Sushi and Roll Roll Roll (sushi places in the suburbs). The portions were great, about 8 pieces a roll and I walked away feeling quite happy. Would come back again if I was in the area.

This place is fantastic! Wish we lived local so we could make this a regular place. But we will be coming here every time we go to the airport! The food is fantastic. Great, fresh sushi. Our absolute favorite was the Greenwich roll. So tasty! The real reason to come here, and what gives it 5 stars, is the service. The staff is excellent. So friendly. Everyone working there asked us multiple times if we were happy and the food was to our liking. Additionally, they give you complimentary miso soup and a salad. To top it off, at the end of our meal, they gave us complimentary ice cream! In fact, they did it for the entire restaurant. We love this place! Highly recommended!!

So good! The service was so nice and friendly! We will come back many more times!! The Dragon was the most favorite and the the White Castle was darn good as well! We didn't expect the miso soup and salad starter it so was yummy! I usually do not like miso but here it was very good!!

Went there for the first time today with my parents. The staff was amazing! Very kind and welcoming, even the chef in the back. The sushi was absolutely delicious and they had no problem making a few changes to it (I'm not a huge fan of advocado). They were extremely attentive and considerate. The food came out quickly and our water glasses always remained full. I ordered the dragon roll and crunchy crunchy roll and they were both delicious and the plating was very elegant. Everyone speaks English as well which is another huge plus as I've gone to other sushi restaurants and the staff can be difficult to understand. They were also very patient with us and answered any questions we had about the menu. Overall a pretty great place for sushi and I'll be bringing some friends with me next time!

OMG...this place was AMAZING!!! Seemed like everyone LOVES the Dragon Roll in the reviews so i ordered it when i was here..NOW I KNOW WHY!!!!! Prompt service, great soup and salad, and i am just blown away how flavorful their rolls are. My friend and I split three rolls and all were distinctive and DELICIOUS!! I'm going back next week, and probably every week after that!

Tried this restaurant because of another Yelp review and YES was it delicious! Soft shelled crab and tomato was a tasty start along with the complimentary miso soup and salad. Shared 3 rolls; French Kiss, Aloha and Durango. Which were all very fresh and not a piece left. Also good parking and very polite service. Looking forward to coming back!

Came here on a random night after a trip to Ikea and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food here! I came in expecting average teriyaki but the bento (we tried it with teriyaki and saba shio) was surprisngly moist and saba shio was very fresh and delicious. We also tried two rolls (Gangsta and Sounders) and both were fresh and tasted great. Still can't beat my favorite sushi joint but definitely a step up from genki/sushiland. Only suggestion for the Gangsta roll is that the salmon needs some sort of sauce on top - once the fish is seared, it's a little dry and can use something other then salmon roe to soften it up. For those that like variety, they do provide a good selection of inventive rolls. I don't care for a lot of the ones with cream cheese, so I think a lot of them were ruled out but I'm sure you can request it without it.

We just had a wonderful meal at Sushi Today. The fish was all very fresh! We ordered the sushi dinner and a bento box with gyoza and teriyaki chicken. It was all fantastic, really great food. There were many other people in the restaurant, but service was still very fast and friendly. Great food, wonderful service and a lovely atmosphere. We will be back!

Okay, so my wife and I went to this place today and had some pretty good food but the service was far from awesome. The guy who was supposedly our "server" was this guy wearing blue jeans, a sports windbreaker, workout shoes... He was the only "server" and If he wasn't tending to one of the tables, he was sitting in the dining room with all his personal stuff sprawled out on one of the tables. The cooks who made our sushi just joined him in the dining room in between making food. It was quite unprofessional! My wife and I ordered two specialty rolls along with two CA rolls and asked to keep a menu at the table in case we wanted to order more later. When the food arrived, it looked and tasted good but there was an empty bottle of soy sauce on the table and only one very tiny portion on wasabi on the plate for 4 rolls of sushi. When I asked the "server" for more wasabi, he looked at me like I was asking for his mom's phone number! After consuming the rolls, my wife and I agreed to order one more roll to share. We waited for about 15 minutes starring at our empty plates on the table when the "server" finally decided to show up with our bill; He places it on the table, as I am about to order more food, and says "you guys are done, right?" To which I replied "Yes, I guess we are..." We most likely won't be going there again!

Amazing sushi at a fair price. What else could you ask for? Their seaweed salad is delish! Also recommend the bento box and crunch crunch and sunset rolls. Honestly though, I don't think you could go wrong with any choice you make at this place... The people here are always incredibly nice too - makes it even better knowing our money is going to some good, hard working people. And completely satisfying my stomach at the same time. :)

Last night, my fiance, my son, & I stopped in to watch the Hawks game and get some sushi. We were greeted by the most happy, kind, adorable woman who I couldn't speak more highly of. My 2 year old son was smitten with her and she was so kind to all of us throughout our visit. She was the hostess & our waitress. She brought us complimentary miso soup and small salads with a sweet balsamic type dressing. We ordered a special agent roll, an in & out roll, and a white castle roll. All 3 were unbelievably fresh, unbelievably delicious, and quite large. We certainly didn't feel like we didn't get our money's worth! It wasn't crowded at all (probably due to the Hawks game) and we got our food really fast! All in all, this was in my top 3 best sushi experiences between living in Chicago, LA, and Seattle. We will certainly be back again soon!

Everytime over gone here it is amazing always fresh and outstanding quality. The seaweed salad is a great start, refreshing and so tasty. The southwestern poke is also so flavorful. They always start you with miso soup that is one of the best I've ever had. I 110% recommend everyone go here.

I've been here twice and had the bento and special rolls on both occasion. Rolls were generous and delicious. ( Try the Sounders Roll). Fantastic. Exceeded my expectations all around! Fast friendly and attentive service in a clean atmosphere. Sushi was excellent, fresh, firm fish, crisp veggies and perfect rice. So glad I let my wife talk me into this place! Don't be fooled by the name and strip mall location, this place is LEGIT!!

I really enjoy Sushi Today. The Sexy roll contains no rice so I am in heaven that I can enjoy a roll without my blood sugar skyrocketing. Although, I can add salmon nigiri and be okay. Highly recommend, so glad it's close to work and home.

  • Naomi O.

Maybe the worst sushi spot ever. The service was horrible. It took forever to get our order. We were served wrong items. The salad dressing tasted very balsamic Itialianish. The miso soup was served cold. The tempura was undercooked but the veggies were mushy, like they were over cooked. The teriyaki they served was terrible. Fatty chicken and over cooked. The spicy tuna rolls were actually good. I got a tempura roll and it was the first time I've had one that the fish was completely cooked and mushy. I think the frying oil isn't up high enough. It just tasted like a roll of mush. We won't be going back. Such a sad birthday dinner that I got a do-over dinner.

I moved to the Renton area a few months ago from Chicago and had been seriously looking for a "staple" sushi place with interesting special rolls and moderate prices. I tried over a dozen local places and just happened to see this place as I drove by. At the time they were not on yelp or Google. I have them a try and now I have been back 5 more times. They have a great ratio of fish and rice on their rolls and a very friendly service. They have plenty of special rolls of that is your thing but also very good quality fish for their sushi and sashimi. Their seared sashimi appetizer is great and if you choose tuna it becomes fantastic. It would be nice of they had a little more variety of fish in their specials but for the price it has plenty of choice and excellent quality.

I can't even begin to explain how kind & amazing the owners/chefs are, the food is always fresh & you can tell they put a lot of time & consideration into it. It's a very lovely place, the wood is gorgeous, the food is absolutely scrumptious. My new favorite sushi place & I am a sushi snob, to be quite honest. I highly recommend the Firecracker Roll & the Caterpillar Roll, absolutely perfect. I can't express my love for this place in words anymore. Just trust when I say you MUST try them out.

Service was kind and friendly. Amazingly well crafted and presented rolls. Spider roll available, but not in the menu. Seaweed salad wasn't the kind I expected, but free miso soup makes up for it!!

  • Tinh K.

I gave it 2 stars because the waitress was nice. But the food is really not that great. Not even average. My tofu wasn't made right. The man that made my sushi was sweaty which made me hesitated a little as soon as he brought it to me. Plus the cook and the owner were fighting while there were still customers WTH! I live close by but definitely not coming back.

Wonderful, wonderful service! Amaaazing sushi!!! This place tops most of the hip places in Seattle. People always say, location, location, location...So yes, maybe you want a fine dining treat downtown, but this place is LEGITIMATE! If you go to IKEA, PLEASE STOP HERE FOR LUNCH! It is so good!

This is my new favorite sushi source. The restaurant is very comfortable, the staff which is obviously a family, are so nice. The menu is large enough to offer a variety (for frequent visitors like me) and the food is fresh and delicious. The prices offer a great value and the location could not be better for me! Finally, I appreciate the fact that they pipe in soft-rock music sometimes. Makes the food go down so nicely :).

I was quite tempted to give this place a whirl after reading the other reviews here on Yelp so off to lunch I went with man I tow. We were greated instantly upon our arrival which is always a nice way to start off a great lunch. The food was as every other reviewer described, delicious. It was fresh, and the presentation was well constructed on every plate that we received. Service was attentive and that was the same for everyone that came through the door. We will definitely be returning.

I have tried this Sushi Today tonight on the strength of the Yeip reviews and I am glad I did! I ordered a Spicy California Roll, sake, maguro, hamachi nigiri and edamame all of which were very good and reasonably priced. It was unexpected that hot tea, a light and delicious salad and the best miso soup I have tasted in a long while was included with the rest! The green tea ice cream tempura was beautifully displayed and very tasty. I will be going back many times with my husband and friends. What a wonderful find so close to home.

This is my new favorite sushi place in Kent/Renton area --- so much better than other local sushi venues. The rolls are delicious and a good size and the menu is pretty affordable. To top it off, the service is great - a little slow when they are busy but the woman there is so cute and so nice. Even the sushi chef seemed to go out of his way to make the dining experience stand out from the rest. It's the personal touch that puts Sushi Today on the top of my list! I highly recommend it.

So the first time I went here it was because I used to go to the teriyaki place that was here before so I stuck with the teriyaki which was good. Terikyaki for me is usually a NOT good or good (rare to have a GREAT). So my wife then went here with her coworkers and said it was good sushi. I was intrigued so we went yesterday. I LOVE this place! The grandma that works here is the NICEST and cutest lady ever and reminded me of my own grandma so I couldnt stop smiling. The sushi was pretty damn good (I got the crunch crunch and the Machu Pichu). The crunch crunch was good but the machi pichu was this jalepeno/srircaha with cream cheese and crab meat fusion sushi that tasted really good. They served the rolls with complimentary miso soup and salad which was awesome especially where you usually have to pay extra and their prices were decent ($10-12 range). I'd come here again if I wanted sushi in the Tukwila/Renton/Kent area and didn't want to drive down to Seattle for the better, more expensive and have to deal with traffic mess sushi restaurant.

I love the food here! The restaurant is small and cozy! Best of all its very clean. The food presentation is just as awesome as it tastes. The owner is very friendly and it shows that's he loves what he does.

Very good/Fresh Sushi here. The staff is friendly and they have a great Bento special. The Teriyaki is better than standard. The sauce is not too thick or sweet. Decor is very nice as well, very calming.
