Talk about diamonds in the rough. If you go here at night, and have never been around the area, you def get a where in the hell am I going and can there really be something good there vibe. But don't fret this stroll through commercial buildings is well worth it. The Trickster IPA has now supplanted itself in my top three beers and is easily the best IPA i have had. The scotch ale was also very tasty, but man that IPA. Place has a nice vibe for its tasting room/bar and the back room is nice for big groups (which we were). And bonus points, you can get Flying Saucer Pizza delivered to your table. Pretty good pizza + Awesome beer. I believe I have been told that makes for a decent combination.

I love this brewery. I love the mascot, I love the logo, I love the staff, but most of all-- and I say this as a beer snob-- I love the beer. Whether you get the pale ale, the IPA, the brown, the Scotch, or one of their many rotating or trial brews, I guarantee you will find it deliciously complex and fulfilling. I've even taken non-beer drinkers there, and they've been impressed.

Great beer, cool space, needs to figure out how to manage inventory better. I get it, it's just a taproom, not a bar. Just a small, relatively young, brewery getting started. So I don't expect them to have every beer they've ever brewed ready to go; but still. They were out of 3 of their 6(7?) beers. Including what seems to be somewhat their flagship (the Trickster IPA). My group wasn't the only disappointed one there. I guess, I will learn to call beforehand. Of course, it still gets four stars because the beer we did get was great. And the taproom space is large, comfortable, and innovative (it goes back into the brewing area). Plus, it led me to discover Flying Saucer Pizza which is: a. AWESOME!! and b. had the beers we wanted on tap. So that's a little tip for you. If Black Raven is out of their IPA, walk over to FSP.

Great tasting room! Despite the business park interior, the interior is cozy with wooden tables and out back, there's a beer garden for nice days. Their beer is tops! The seasonal (wedding special) pilsner and trickster IPA are my favorites, but I enjoyed most of their other styles as well. My fiance and I left with a growler of the Pilsner and one of the Hefeweizen. The lack of in-house food doesn't bother me too much. This is a tasting room and I'm here for the beer. The Flying Saucer Pizza delivery is also perfectly decent (not my favorite, but definitely a step above domino's- note the small is really small). Addressing the complaint that beers are out of stock: this seems pretty normal for microbreweries. I was at Big Al's recently and they were out of half of their offerings. It sucks, but their beer demand is outpacing supply limiting the selection they can keep on hand. They're probably brewing as much as they can handle already.

Wonderful beer, great space and people.

Woo hoo for a local brewery with tasting room on the east side! Had been here about 3 times before attending their OFFICIAL grand opening last Friday. I've tried all of their beers released thus far and I especially enjoy the Trickster IPA and Tamerlane Brown Porter. Enjoyed getting to try the Morrighan Stout on nitro and the 2 wheat beer offerings (Kristale and Hefe) at the grand opening. Having this place so close to home I know I will be a regular. Looking forward to filling many a growler and trying many a pint here. Wishing much success to Black Raven.

One of my new favorite breweries in the Seattle area. The Trickster IPA is one of my favorite IPA's. It easily rivals Russian Rivers Pliny the Elder or their IPA. Just having amazing beer alone is worth the price of admission but the service is good but not great and the homey atmosphere makes this place one of my favorite places. I love the fact that you can bring your own been into this joint. Great stuff.

Went back this weekend, Saturday afternoon to be exact, its been a few weeks since I was here last, and been quite a while since my first visit, but the one thing I noticed is the amount of people that are constantly at this place now. Business is definitely booming and for good reason. If you haven't been here yet & are waiting, go soon.

I was driving on Willows Road this week and was surprised to see the sign for this place in one of the industrial park buildings near Arena Sports. I stopped in to grab a growler (one year old cramping my style) on Friday 4/17 and was pleasantly surprised by the Trickster IPA. It was quite tasty, with a nice balance of hoppy goodness. If this was really the first batch these guys brewed at their new facility then I am anxious to see what they do one they have a few dozen under their belts. I am happy to have a solid option to fill growlers and grab pints in the area. As much as I love Redhook it will be nice to have an alternative.

A friend of mine discovered this place more than a year ago. I've come here at least once every month since. The woodwork design is spectacular! I like their IPAs and Pale Ales. I am not a hefeweizen fan, but their sunthief is pretty good. Bring back your spiced pale ale! It would be fun to see a long bar in the new addition and getting the building admin to let them stay open longer than 10 pm. Good Beers!

A little out of the way but worth it. Stop by early on a Sunday and ended up spending the day enjoying the casual atmosphere and great beer! Try the special casks beer especially the Coco Jones. They don't serve food but encourage delivery and offer menus just for that along with food trucks. Beautiful wood tables and friendly service. Highly recommend seeking this place out and spending some time!

I've been going to Black Raven for a couple months now. My favorite beer is the Brown, which has a nice stout flavor at the end. Growler fills here are fairly priced, the pints are 20 oz for $5 which isn't too bad, and they have CASK POURS every Wednesday, sometimes Thursdays! In fact, I'm heading there tonight for their cask pour of La Petite Mort. Thursday they're having a bourbon barrel version! You have to stop by this place soon, once you do, you'll be back!

  • Laura P.

I love black raven beers and I can look past the weird industrial park look and location of this place. The staff is all friendly, free peanuts and pretzels, and you can order pizza for delivery. I do wish it was more pub-like in feel but the beer helps me forget my surrounding.

    (4)
  • Thomas J.

Dogs on the deck! Yeah. If it's sunny out, head to the back patio (a parking lot with umbrellas and tables, and a fence) through the main bar. Great, great beer and a friendly vibe.

    (4)
  • Brian B.

Black Raven has some very good beers and an excellent atmosphere at their tasting room. No food, but plenty of options for delivery (I recommend Flying Saucer Pizza nearby). Usually busy, but definitely worth it.

  • Andrew R.

Everyone else has covered the basics of this place so no need to repeat. Great place to pickup a growler. I begrudgingly admit that their IPA is pretty tasty (the hops are usually too much for me). I am seriously adicted to the scotch ale. Kind of boosy, super smooth. Would be awesome if they had food here. You have a few drinks and you order a pizza, then eat it, then realize they are super small, decide to order more food but have to wait 30 minutes and in the meantime down a few more, and then you're really in trouble. I think it's a conspiracy theory.

Delicious, hand-crafted brews in a cozy atmosphere. We've become regulars since I dragged my wife out. I really enjoy the Second Sight Scotch Ale and their Stout which is on nitro. Try their beer flight, Flight of the Raven, to discover your favorite. All the servers are friendly and they know their beer - just ask and they will tell you the blend of grains & hops used as well as the IBU. If you're a little hungry, they offer complementary peanuts and pretzels. If you get the munchies, Flying Saucer Pizza, just a block away, will deliver hot & delicious combinations - I like the "Crop Circles", and my wife prefers their Thai pizza.

  • Jim T.

I would be here every day if I lived closer. It's my go to place to bring somebody who's visiting and appreciates great beer. Great atmosphere for being located in an industrial business park far off the beaten path. Always busy and a challenge to find a seat, despite the recent expansion. Service is almost non-existent, and several times I've almost thrown up my hands and left in frustration. The beer is always top of the line, and deserves the awards they consistently win. A small menu would be nice.

  • Tommy r.

Came here a week after they opened Beau & the rest have expanded more rapidly them they Could imganed. Come here! The beer is stellar - the atmosphere WONderful My only complaint is that after all this time, their some of their Servers need to take lessons on customer service from Anastasia. IF she is working, I am always greeted by name - or at the very Least told "Hi be right with U" Anastasia ALWAYS makes me feel that she is happy I came in

Third time visiting from Whidbey Island and we just noticed the "people love us on Yelp" sticker in the window. Damn right people love Black Raven Brewery... They have the best damned IPA's in all the land.

Went here last night for the first time as our friends recommended this place. The place was busy but we were able to find a table to accommodate our group of 10 people. Service was okay. A couple of cons was they didn't serve any food. We did order pizza from Flying Saucer Pizza but still thought the brewery should serve their own food. In addition, they need to put more tables/chairs. As for the beer, I enjoyed the Hefeweizen. It's a good place to hang out and chill and enjoy a nice glass of beer!

  • Teman C.

Tasty beer, near my house, growlers. I had the takeout pizza from the nearby place and it was pretty good too.

2 years later... still awesome! Growler fillups on regular basis

    (5)
  • Jak N.

Great beer, good atmosphere and cool location. BUT the service is awful and slow. Often time you have to get up and go to the bar to order beer. Asking the waitresses for beer is like asking them to do you a favor. It shouldn't be like that.

    (3)
  • Tim P.

Black Raven - awesome. Beer is great, especially the Trickster IPA. Had the pizza though from Flying Saucer and it sucked. Thursday night, not busy, took an hour to be delivered, was cold when we got it, and pretty much blew. I had a friend from out of town with me and it was a missed opportunity to impress.

    (4)
  • Carmen B.

Stopped by for the first time last night. GREAT BEER! All of them! Staff and guests were all very friendly- the place had a nice relaxed vibe and you could tell patrons are regulars. Enjoyed the sampler and a few more pints. Can't wait to go back!

Celebrated their one year anniversary this weekend. They did it right! Live music, beer specials, sausage & pizza. Bravo Raven Brew Pub & thanks for adding to the ever growing beer culture of the Pacific Northwest. Prost!

    (3)
  • H P.

Good beer, terrible service. Not worth it unless you show up before 3pm. Had to sit in the cellar with no waitress and then wait forever just to pay our tab. Won't go back.

    (2)
  • Tom P.

This is the best brewery I've ever been to. Black Raven's IPA is incredible - seriously the best, full bodied, hoppy IPA I've ever had. On another note - I am a home brewer; which isn't always encouraged by some breweries. Not here! Andy, the Lead Brewer is very knowledgeable - and will actually give pointers on brewing great beer at home, Of course, it's polite to buy a beer or two when getting free advice from people who actually make it for a living. Live long and prosper - Black Raven! We're glad you live in Redmond, WA!

    (5)
  • Paula K.

I am in love with the new Morrighan Stout, oh my oh my!! I crave this beer! it's heaven in a pint glass dispensed on nitro.....

    (5)
  • Eric M.

Love the Black Raven. My wife and I try to get over there once a week or so and are never disappointed. If I had to pick a favorite of theirs, it would have to be Totem Pale...but that would be close to the Morrighan stout. Every beer that they make and the few that they serve from other breweries are good examples of craft brewing and I'm very excited to have this place in Redmond. The interior is well put together as well and they're happy to let you snoop in the brewing area. They don't serve food but don't mind getting deliveries from Flying Saucer pizza.

    (5)
  • Francisco A.

This place is hidden in an industrial park at that weird place where Willows starts to bleed into downtown Redmond, convenient but it still feels like a secret. It's a perfect spot for happy hour after a busy day on the Eastside. They make one of the best IPAs (Trickster) in the Pacific Northwest and everything else on tap is amazing. They have the best sampler I have ever had at a brewery, 6-8 very generous samplings of beer goodness for super cheap. It's across the street from Flying Saucer and you can order a pizza straight to your table.

    (5)
  • Stephen W.

Yes, it's a brewery with a tasting room. But it has much more in common with a pub. All of their handcrafted beers are excellent! My favourite is the Trickster IPA, no, wait the Second Sight Scotch Ale, wait no the "Pour Les Oiseaux" Belgian style farm ale. They've upgraded the two wines for people that just can't drink beer. There's no food, but you can bring your own, and Flying Saucer pizza is only too happy to deliver from across the street. The tasting room is open from 3pm 'til 10pm, and it's always hopping [sic] after work. Cheers!

Definitely a Fan! My friends and I went there this weekend for the first time. We each had the sampler of 8. I'm not a big beer drinker but I definitely enjoyed trying all the different types. There was only one I didn't like and thankfully my friend loved it, so she drank it. We enjoyed the laid back atmosphere, our waitress was super friendly and attentive. They don't serve food but you can order pizza from a local pizza place (that's across the street) and they deliver with no delivery charge. Overall experience was great and my friends and I definitely plan on visiting again in the near future. Oh - the only reason I didn't give 5 stars is due to seating. I think there was only 1 table large enough for more than 4 people. Most tables were for 2 to 4 people. If you have a large group you may be able to sit in the back room and put the tables together but I wouldn't go in w/ a large group because there would be not guarantee you'd get a large enough table for all.

  • Kirk B.

Once you are inside you forget the fact that you are in a business park! The beer is always great--even when they don't have my favorite (Second Sight) there are many other options available! The staff is always at the top of their game--making sure glasses are full and people are happy. You can always make new friends with the regulars. I can not wait for them to get a kitchen so I can spend a bit more time there!

Fine craft brews. Award-winning Trickster IPA; First Batch Tamerlane brown porter; Sun Thief filtered wheat beer and unfiltered Hefeweizen; Morrigan stout; Totem Pale Ale; Second Sight Scotch Ale; and, on occasion, La Petite Mort, Possum Claws, and Ooskant, subject to wood aging. Weekly cask crawls every Wednesday afternoon -- usually some variation of the IPA at least twice a month. Excellent, lovable staff with a human touch. Nice environment. Advisable for dating :) Fine customers, with a fine taste for beer and a greater than average intelligence :) Small enough that you can tour the place in a few minutes while enjoying a sip. Partners with Flying Saucer Pizza nearby (free Pizza deliveries Mon-Sat).

Seattle and vicinity is fortunate to have some of the best micro breweries in the country. Black Raven rates right up at the top. One of my favorite brews is the Black Raven Trickster IPA. At $12 a Growler fill ($19 if you need to purchase the bottle) it's a little on the expensive side; however, I'm willing to pay the price for this premium IPA.

the beer is just darn good and its a comfortable and cozy place to relax. sometimes they can get a bit busy (well, they can get really busy) and the service can suffer a bit. maybe this occasionally come across as attitude, but I do think they try so you got to give them props. of the many great times I have been here I had a singular less than stellar one and brought it to the attention of the head brewer. he was really apologetic and sincerely did his best to fix the situation. Gotta seriously respect that. Oh, and Harris is the greatest! Yes, I'm a Yelper! Love this place and will keep coming back.

  • Michelle B.

The teenage goth in me very much enjoys their theme. The beer lover likes the fact that each brew is spot on and drinkable. If I had two words to describe their beer, they would be: clean and crisp. My favorites for the summer season are the Totem Northwest Pale & Kristale Wheat. I have a feeling this place will warrant a fifth star in the future as I become acquainted with their seasonals.

For anyone looking for a quality brewery with a great taproom, head to Black Raven.

    (5)
  • Igor T.

The beer here is very good. I enjoyed the Pale Ale the most. A big plus is that they let you bring your own food in or order pizza from a nearby joint. On the downside, this place is spendy. We each paid $6 for a sampler of their beers. At Redhook Brewery, you can get a tour of the brewery, sample their beers and keep the souvenir glass for $1. Overall, I enjoyed the place and will probably take my friends here sometime.

  • Jason M.

Great microbrewery, and their Trixster IPA keeps my mouth watering. They don't serve food, but it's a nice atmosphere on the inside as long as you aren't looking to watch sports (they only have one TV and it's tiny). A bigger space would be nicer for sure, but the beer keeps me coming back. They don't serve food aside from peanuts and pretzels, but a nearby pizzeria delivers promptly, so you won't have to go hungry.

As a Seattlite I am always leery of the drive over to the @ss end of Redmond but Black Raven always makes the trip easy. Knowing a tasty pint will be waiting for me is makes the 20 min trip around the lake worth it. A lovely setting with all natural wood, a great open seating area in back in the brewing area where you get to watch the magic happen makes the experience even more enjoyable. The beers are some of the best in the northwest and I am a member of WABL and have enjoyed many excellent NW beers. The IPA Trickster is one of the best IPA's I've ever had. Unfiltered, fresh hop flavor, very full bodied. I've had the Morrighan Stout which is similar to Guinness but more full rounded full bodied flavor but that same creamy nitro smoothness. Right now they are pouring a special Saison style beer called "Pour Les Oiseaux" (For the birds). It is a blond style ale that is so flavor full. It doesn't look like much but packs a huge punch in flavor. My favorite Belgium style beer so far. So if you want a good NW style beer, take the trek to Black Raven, you won't be disappointed.

Several months in, and this has shaped up to be my new local favorite! Beaux and Andy are setting the new standard for quality Northwest Ales in my opinion. I couldn't ask to have a better brewery close to home! The tasting room is gorgeous, and far beyond what you would expect in such an industrial complex. The decorations, and subtle touches really make a comfortable atmosphere. The beers: Kristale/Hefe- Excellent examples of the style. Finding good American made hefeweizens are tough, and Black Raven has really pulled through! Not a style of beer I go to often, but I can certainly appreciate when it is done well. Totem Pale- Hands down, no close second, BEST pale ale I've ever had! I can't explain enough how much this beer speaks of the brewing talent, and process mastery Beaux and Andy have achieved. A must try for anyone who gets the chance! Tamberlane Brown- Like the Pale, this beer is at the top of its class. Subtle roasty flavor from the chocolate malts balanced perfectly with the subtle hop aroma, make this one of the tastiest beers I've ever had. So refreshing to find a GOOD (this one is beyond good however) brown ale. That's hard to do. Morrighan Stout- Has bested Snoqualmie as my favorite nitro stout. I know I'm starting to get repetitive here, but you'll be hard pressed to find a better one in the Northwest. Trickster IPA- Damn son! I love me some IPA's, but I'm finding it hard to find many in the area that really blow me away. Most use far too much of a certain few excessively astringent hop varieties that I'm not a huge fan of... Not the case with this one. It boasts a huuuuge hop aroma and flavor, without being overly bitter and astringent. It most definitely deserved the recent award it received! Really what I'm getting at is that there isn't a downside to this place. It's exactly what our already amazing local beer scene needed.

What a great little brew pub! Went there with my family on a Saturday afternoon recently and the place was packed. The pub is very roomy with lots of tables and outside seating. Our server was very knowledgeable about beer and helped us select a beer that was to our liking. Would definitely go back.

Very low key atmosphere and some great beer. No food but you can get pizza delivered there Go for the sampler or just get the porter.

  • Sarendipity B.

Black Raven's tasting room is great for beer lovers. It's amazing if you like beer AND pizza! Belly up to the bar or one of the various pub tables and order a pint of your favorite beer. I hadn't had Black Raven's beer before so I opted for the flight. You can order delivery pizza from Zeek's. They bring it to your table. Need I say more? Don't let the unassuming industrial park location scare you away. Great little place hidden in Redmond!

  • Bo C.

If you like beer than this is the place for you. It is very casual and is a good place to meet up with friends. It's true they don't have food but they let you bring food in and they even have some menus of a couple places that will deliver. But at the end of the day if you're headed to a brewery you are probably mostly interested in the beer and not the food. The staff is very friendly and the service is quick. So if you want to have a nice night catching up with friends this should be one of your stops.

Loved the beer, loved the tasting room, and loved the staff! I planned a get together here last night for about 15 alumni from my Alma mater. We were welcoming some recent graduates from our school who just moved out to the Northwest. I emailed Black Raven a couple weeks ago to let them know we were expecting about 10-15 people for our get together. Kat emailed me back yesterday to let me know they would have a section reserved for us. Sweet, I thought. We arrived last night and were immediately impressed at how finished and beautiful the inside of the tasting room was. I loved the woodwork and way the tasting tables were all arranged. Kat led us to the back room where they had setup 2 long tables of 12 seats each with menus and candles. We certainly did not except this nice of a set up. The area around us was "roped" off with a line of kegs. Super cool. I was very impressed with their beer menu and absolutely LOVED the unfiltered hefeweizen! Even though they didn't have their Trickster IPA on tap, my IPA loving friends managed to find one by Two Beers, which was a guest tap. We had amazing attentive service and I will most certainly be back here to enjoy their beers. My only 2 qualms are that this place is located on the Eastside (wish it was closer to Seattle) and the pint prices are a bit steep. I feel the same way as Evan B. that a $4.50 price point is the way to bring in more customers as opposed to $5. Oh well. Oh yah and don't forget to get your WABL passport stamped here!

CAAAAAAAAAAW!!!!!! For those of you who think Red Hook is the Sh#t....think again. Raven is seriously making some of the best beers in the state of WA. You can order any beer off of their list and not be disappointed. My personal favorites include: Trickster IPA Totem Northwest Pale La Petite Mort - Belgian Abbey Strong Brown (Seasonal) Wisdom Seeker Double IPA (Rotating) The only food they serve on site are peanuts and pretzels. You can order a high quality low cost pizza from Flying Saucer and will deliver within 20 mins. Tip for newcomers, just order your beer from the bar as soon as you walk in. Don't wait around for them to come to you as they get quite busy. Next time you and your friends are in need of something to do, suggest a little bird watching...but use caution, these birds pack quite the punch.

Great place to chill and have a beer with friends! Very low key and lots of places to sit and relax. They have great beers especially IPA's!

  • Nick M.

Great beer and they do growlers to-go. They have a great mailing list that comes out for the new beers on Wednesdays via email, which is nice. If you are looking for food, this isn't the place to go, it is strictly beer.. which is great. The Flying Saucer Pizza place across the street will run a pie over for you though. There are free peanuts at the tables, so chow down. The staff here is generally nice but the fact that it is a brewery/pub in the Northwest means that you will have to deal with a bit of "too cool for school" hipsterism from the staff. The seating is spread out and there is a lot of it but if you go on a Friday afternoon you may have to stand.

I really got caught up in the hype of Black Raven, and must admit that their beer can be really good. The Wisdom Seeker is great, but more elusive than a Sasquatch sighting. I'll drink their Trickster instead, which is also a decent beer. The main reason for my 2 star rating is due to the service and staff at Black Raven. Unless you're a regular (you can usually spot them drinking alone at the bar), expect to have to flag down a bartender or waitress for service unless you'd like to wait. Want your check? Same situation. Want food? You have to order from Flying Saucer, who will deliver but it could take up to 45 minutes. The good thing is that FS serves great pizza, and if you're a regular they'll even supply you with plates and napkins. Not a regular? Expect to wipe that pizze grease off on your jeans - no plates or napkins for you!. Since I liked their beer and I regularly golf next door at Willows, a buddy and I figured we'd try to join their Ravenmasters beer club to see if that would improve our chances of getting decent service. At this point we really wanted this to be our "go to" local brewery, but their arrogance once again got the best of them. We arrived on Saturday and waited in line, but they sold out of memberships a few people ahead of us. They celebrated after selling their last membership, which was a bit rude to the rest of us waiting in line. Turns out, they also used this as an opportunity to sell more beer at full price to the suckers... I mean "customers" who didnt get memberships. Bottomline: their normal beer offerings are decent, but their arrogance, "good ol' boy club" attitude, and poor customer service really prevent this local brewhouse from being enjoyable.

Best brewery EVER! Swank decor and pretty hot waitresses. Only downside: clientele is 95% nerdy MS men.

I've been a fan of Black Raven since they opened their shop in Redmond. If a top 5 breweries list exists for the NW...Black Raven is easily top 3. These guys are scientists when it comes to beer. They combine a sense of personal purity and an unsettling commitment to perfection. With Gold Medals galore, Black Raven is by far a must taste/see brewery in the NW. Their taproom is super chill with a classic culture, and plenty of super smart, approachable employees, with a beer list most would salivate over. Try their Trickster IPA and Strong Scotch Ale if your looking for some of the Northwest's best.

  • Kevin W.

I'm amazed that anyone could complain about the service and staff at this tap room (yes, tap room; it's not a bar or restaurant.) Yes, this place gets extremely busy; that's just the price of success. These people work their butts off to get to everyone, but the plain truth is they have a lot of people to take care of. If they haven't gotten your beer to you as fast as you would like, get your butt to the bar with the rest of us! And if you need a plate or a napkin to wipe your greasy hands off, here's a clue: just ask for one! As for the beers here: I've been drinking the IPA and Pale since the beginning and I would rather drink their beers than anyone else's. I'm not a hop-head, just someone who enjoys a good beer.

  • Randi L.

Absolutely adore this place! Really love that they have a second bar and more seating (even outside patio seating during those, few, nice days we have in Seattle). The beer is beyond spectacular and the selection always has a new offering. Don't let the "corporate" exterior of the building fool you - this place is a hidden gem. Weekend nights are busy so get there early to get a good seat. Peanuts and pretzels to snack on and if you're really hungry, order from Flying Saucer Pizza. They deliver and their food is YUMMY! Make sure to keep note of Black Raven's hours - they are not open as late as most pubs are (I think they close at 10pm on most nights).

Seriously Good Brews! Limited seating & standing room only can be annoying... But the free bowls of peanuts in the shell help ease the pain! Why oh why does the place have to close at ten?! Even on weekends. HUH?! A pub in a strip mall is not exactly ideal. But in Redmond it's hard to find ANYWHERE to hang out that does not feel like burbs...so we'll take it. Funny thing is- this bar used to the location of "Temple Gym" personal training. So where I used to order a protein shake with flax seed is now the watering hole for Morrighan Stout and Tamerlane Brown Porter= YUM! And I don't even like beer that much!

I'm not feeling particularly chatty, so let's just go for the highlights (I have yet to find any low lights anyway). - Helpful, smiling employees happy to answer any questions and don't leave you hanging long so you can order. - Great ambiance and finely priced choices aplenty on tap. - Scotch ale. A really freaking good scotch ale at that. My first and only growler (for now, anyway) was from here, filled to the brim with its sweet goodness. I also bought an additional pint so that I could save my jug for home. Seriously, this is one of the VERY few places that makes me wish I hadn't moved from the Eastside after the painful adolescent years. GO. GO NOW.

Updated Oct12: This place just keeps getting better. Expanded indoor and outdoor seating, food trucks, and consistently great beer. No more free peanuts, but still pretzels. Wisdom Seeker Imperial IPA - I feel very smart after two pints of this special release brew :-) Summary: I love supporting local breweries and it is great to see Black Raven doing well. Their beers are well crafted. The tasting room is a great experience. I'd give them 4.5 stars if that were an option. Great place to go with a date or a buddy or a small group. Pros: The beer! Free pretzels and peanuts. If you want more food, they have an arrangement with Flying Saucer Pizza which is nearby and delivers for free. Cons: None, this is as good as a tasting room in the front of a warehouse in an industrial park gets.

The beer here is delicious!! The logo is cute!! It is in a business park!!! WAit...... I feel like I am in a little oasis away from the setting of "Office space" when I go here.. It is always busy when I go, but busy in the way that Dad types are here between work and going home to their wives because they have dinner waiting for them at home. They go here to re-live their crazy bar days in the domestic mecca that is Redmond. They couldn't possibly have one more, because they have to drive their subaru home 3.7 miles. This is the only place that it is okay to use a unisex bathroom, I told my friend, because their wives have trained them to either sit down or clean up their dribble. Free pretzels and water with your beer, but no other food selection :( Waahh wahhh...oh welll. That just means you have to fill yourself up on their delicious beer! I recommend their porter, but not their hefeweizen, which my husband states "smells like my boxer sweat".

Coco jones was smooth. Not my favorite but a lot of people love it. The Trickster is nirvana. Wisdom Seeker will make you beg for more. Come and see. Seating is much better these days as they've opened up a new wing. This is world-class beer brewed in Redmond at a reasonable price.

Found a new place to ride a bike to, not too far off the Samammish River Trail and way less crowded than redhook. Would have loved to find a bike rack out front. Patio area was a little small, but the inside was much bigger than I expected. Also happy to see the taco truck out front since this place does not sell food. Thankfully they do provide free pretzels upon request. There is also the option to order via phone for delivery from nearby pizza places which we did and was delicious. Tried some the samplers, suprised to see they have non black raven beer available as well. Some of the ones I wanted to try they were out of. Waitress was great. Place was better than expected. Not too loud and cool on a hot day.

I was a founders member for this brewery, but I didn't renew. The beers are getting better, much better, The taproom is small and always busy, but if you can get there early after work, it's nice place for a beer or two. What my beef with the place? There isn't one, really. I just don't LOVE IPAs like everyone else here. I prefer their other beers. I makes me sad I have to fight the droves of people to stand to drink I beer I really like because they, again, tapped another special cask of another variation of another IPA. Yes, they're good. They make a nice IPA. I prefer EVERYTHING else they make. More and more often I see bars around with Black Raven--but just the Trickster IPA. I want to be able to get something else. That's all. I really like their other stuff and I'm not willing to stand and get elbowed in the face in their taproom to get it.

The hubster has an ongoing bro-mance date here every Wednesday for Cask, a delightful event where they unleash a new infused creation each week. He rolls in wearing all his Pooper Trooper finery and is warmly welcomed each and every time. I imagine it's similar to Norm for those of you of the age range to remember the TV Show "Cheers". I warmly joke about this but have to unveil that the secret to our happy marriage is for the hubby to get his buddy and beer time! I felt honored to have been invited to join in on his weekly soiree and in on his man time last Tuesday. His buddy had been on call for a pony keg of some Trickster IPA and his time had come! So us ladies joined in at the boys beer table and both of us were excited, even though we missed the cask, to taste the awesome juice we've been hearing about all this time. I had literally just walked in to find the hubster when a lovely server asked me if she could get me something to drink. But of course! Since I'm not an IPA gal, I wasn't sure what to choose and she thoughtfully inquired about my palette, made a selection on my behalf and delivered an amazing tall glass of heaven in beer form. This was the Second Sight Scotch. I'm more of a malt lover so this appeased my taste buds well! Being that I'm of French descent, I decided to try La Petite Mort next based on suggestion from the table and once again was pleased. This was a bit more complex brown ale with a spiciness to it that was released in honor of Bastille Day. To be honest I can't say which I enjoyed more. Either way, I have to say the brew here is some of the best Washington has to offer. Not only that, the taproom is a great space to visit. Tastefully decorated w/warm colors, brass accents, dark wood seating and a great little bar to cozy up to. They also have a nice outside area that is perfect on a nice NW sunny day and best of all, they are dog friendly! All of the servers were genuinely nice people who obviously love what they do and who they serve. The only drawback is that they don't serve food, of which me being that for whatever reason, I'm a lightweight with beer so could have used some sustinence. They do provide menus for a pizza delivery place, but I have to say the thought of having delivery pizza with such great beer didn't really seem right to me. Whatever the case, I'm happy the hubster has this great little brewery to visit each week and look forward to a future invite to join in on his man date. I would very much like to try one of their creative casks some time. If you're in Woodinville, or if not, this is definately a destination you must make!

Trickster IPA, nuff said. Don't go for food, don't go for a seat, don't go for table service. March up to the bar (the one in the back is more mellow) get a Trickster, and squeeze your ass in by the wall if you have to - it's really, really good.

The brews here are incredible and the Rare Bird (special brews) are simply amazing! The staff is knowledgeable, personable, and efficient, and will take time to answer your questions. Best of all, the Head brewer and owner, Beaux, took the time out of his busy schedule to share some stories behind the delicious brews and upcoming growth plans for Black Raven. The taproom and sitting areas were decorated tastefully; check out the bar top, it's made from reclaimed bowling alley wood! A word of warning, if you order a taster of everything on tap, you'll get ~12 four oz beers. There was a comical food truck lady out front with some pretty good brats. They seem to have a rotating food service out front to sop up the beer in your gut. 5+ Stars!

The IPA and porter were fantastic. They do not serve food, but you are able to bring in your own. We brought in dungeness crab and had a crab and beer fest. Does not get much better.

Just went back to this place yesterday to have a pint with a co-worker and they have expanded the place yet again, making it finally spacious enough that you can get a seat more often than not. Used to be if you arrived after 4:30 on a Friday, you'd be smashed against a wall or standing in some awkward spot between tables with your friends. Plus you can take a pee now without playing rock-paper-scissors with someone, waiting in line for all eternity. They now have awesome outdoor seating in the front side of building. This place has always had super beer. My favorite is the Nitro-stout (like a Guinness) which takes a few extra minutes for the staff to prepare. The nitrogen and beer are forced through tiny holes in the tap that create millions tiny bubbles "and a creamy, long-lasting cascading head." YUM! Just nice that you can have a place to sit for a change.

Black Raven is by far one of my top 3 brewers. I love *LOVE* their Coco Jones porter, which is sadly limited edition. Their regular porter is amazing, also. I would gladly scour every bar/pub/tavern/joint just to find Black Raven beers on tap, they are that delicious. Also, they make some lovely women's tanktops for roughly $25 :) Their taproom is very nice, the bar is awesome (as is the staff!), and their prices are very reasonable.

I've been light on the review content lately, partially because I'm lazy, and also because there is nothing left to be said on Yelp that is new or revelatory; so, I have concluded that my need to yelp is most likely rooted in narcissism. (You-all too... don't lie!) :-) I give Black Raven Brewing 5.5 stars!!! (It's hard for me to not give most Breweries less than 5 stars... you have good beer, I like you - pretty simple formula.) Great little place... nice tasting room in the front with a small flat-screen (always w/ sports on), 3-4 tables, and enough seating at the bar for about 6 people. There are 6-8 tables in the back, as well. All the tables are made of heavy wood, and gives the impression of trees and branches... all in keeping with the Raven theme. It has a pleasant and casual atmosphere with very nice and helpful staff. Let me get to the good stuff - - their beers are wonderful! Here are my favorites (in order of preference).: 1) Trickster IPA - nice and hoppy and a floral nose and finish (great beer for 'hop-heads'.) 2) Brown Porter - nice mix between a porter and nut-brown ale. Surprisingly light but savory 3) Pale Ale - Somewhat hoppy, but not overwhelming and has a nice, crisp finish. 4) Unfiltered Hefeweizen - cool, crisp, light sweetness with apple and banana notes... not too heavy for an unfiltered wheat beer. 5) Stout - not bad. "Guinness w/ flavor" as they like to say. The beauty is that BLB is en-route to my local golf course, so it will always be a stop of mine for a quick pint and to fill-up a growler. ...Now that I think about it, I may have to pop-over today for a pint and to catch some of the Seahawks game. "Life is too short to drink cheap beer"

From the Brew to the Crew, this place is top notch! The beer is as tasty as it gets and the staff is thee most friendly out there. Black Raven does'nt have to worry about the competition because the competition is always judging their beers against them. So I raise my glass of Petite Mort and thank god for Black Raven Brewing.

I love this place. Great atmosphere, knowledgeable staff, and amazing beers. Evan B. turned me on to this place and it's everything he hyped it as. The beers are amazing and being able to order from a local pizza place was just icing on top. If you're in the area, check it out!

  • Patti M.

I am one of their biggest fans! The beer is so good that you can hardly get a seat anymore. People, they are a tasting room, not a bar or restaurant. None of the wine tasting rooms in Woodinville have food either so stop your whining, order a pizza or bring your own food. I am thrilled when I get to go and sit and do not feel obligated to buy over-priced, mediocre food. The servers are working HARD, like MANY places going up to get to order more should not be a big deal. I LOVE the EDGY people that work here. Black Raven is a SMALL brewery with a BIG taste, sometimes they run out and that is because they make a QUALITY PRODUCT. Someone wrote they should carry other beer (and they do carry other local beers when they run out of a Black Raven variety). But, it is a tasting room for Black Raven beer. I love it because they put their heart and soul into their beer and they're real, genuine beer nuts!

Kinda a hole in the wall. I was in the area and some friends said we had to swing by. So glad I did. The beer was amazing! Seating is first come first serve. Staff was great. I'll totally swing by when I'm in Redmond again.

I'm sorry to say I was a little disappointed in the Black Raven's brews. At first, I liked the Sun Thief, but then it slapped me across the face with clove. Why do that to a perfectly good beer? The Second Sight Stout was okay, but I didn't care for the Morrighan Stout, desipte it being on nitro. The Tamerlane brown porter was my favorite. Gorgeous color, nice nose, but it was lacking in flavor until it warmed up a little. They've done a decent job decorating the place. Inside the taproom, it doesn't feel like an industrial park at all.For me, it's a sizable negative that this brewery doesn't sell food. Sure, there's a pizza place who will deliver, but that didn't appeal to me. Until they add their own kitchen, I probably won't return, because sadly, I didn't like their beer enough to drive all the way there.

Great beer! Too bad it had no food. People had pizza from a place called flying saucer pizza. That is the only reason i docked a star. 5 star beer!! Will certainly help out with those dark, rainy Seattle afternoons. Definitely worth checking out if you can make it out to that area. Kinda a small area though so you may be standing. I don't really care about standing around as most of the beer tasting rooms I have gone to have shared that common trait. Wish it was different but that's just how it is I guess.

This place was one of the recommended by the hotel manager. We asked about seating or for any service at all. The person (trying to keep my review PG) just rolled her eyes at us when we had the audacity to ask for service, totally rude. The beer smelled good, but never got to taste because the total lack of service. We thought we may have better service at a table, found a table with no chairs and waited for service, after a good 20 minutes and no service we decided to bolt the place. This place is about the size of a postage stamp, but not the basis of my review. There are more tables than chairs, also the only food you can get is the pizza next door. No place is worth this much trouble.

Pretty big fan of this place. Great atmosphere and I like the different small rooms. I kind of like that they don't do food either. You can order in from a bunch of places. I live about 2 miles away. Haven't been there a ton but know it's the spot to go when friends come in to town.

Love it- love everything about it! I'd tasted a few of their delicious beers at establishments around town but I just had to take advantage of the UYE last Saturday to get up close and personal with the brewery. We gathered in the back room which was spacious and echoey - great for our loud group. The regular tasting area in the front was nice as well, with wooden tables and a warm, relaxed atmosphere. The beer was, of course, perfect. I had a (large) pint of the stout and another of the IPA and then realized it was all a little much (read: I was a little drunk) because I hadn't really eaten that day! Oops. Apologies to the rest of the people in my carpool that had to listen to me talk about Lowes on the way home. If I'd thought of it earlier, I could have ordered from the pizza place next door. Their menus are on the tables and they deliver to the brewery for no extra charge. I don't get over to Redmond very often but it'd be worth making the dreaded trip to hang out here.

Great beer! Wisdom Seeker is an amazing IPA. Take out menus from nearby food establishments is the way they serve food and it totally works out. Hot dog stand that is sometimes outside also serves up tasty grub. Only downside is the joint is 21, so is not family friendly.

It used to throw me off, going to business parks and finding the random alcohol-serving establishment. This has changed since I've gotten more into the Woodinville wine scene and now I don't think twice about it. (Heck, I kind of expect to find 'em in business parks now so when I don't, I'm disappointed.) It's because of this that I didn't bat an eyelash when I found out that there was a brewery in Redmond...in a business park. Perhaps, in a way, it made me want to visit more. Neat tasting room with tables and seating scattered throughout. They have one bathroom, which I imagine is a nightmare when it gets super busy but it wasn't a nightmare midday on a Saturday. The gal pouring the beers mentioned that they had acquired the space next door and will be expanding, so I don't doubt another bathroom is incoming. The boyfriend got the taster while I got the stout. Everything was REALLY good - the IPA was something particularly special. They have board games, which is awesome. We didn't play anything but we got into a discussion about how horrible I am at Connect-4. (I really am.) Nearby Flying Saucer Pizza has their menus scattered throughout the tables and so we gave them a call (they actually asked "are you at the Raven?" before I could begin to explain that I was calling from a brewery, so I suppose they get a good deal of business from there) and ordered two of the 8" pizzas. In a sense, I didn't miss the kitchen too much because I had a hot, fresh pizza show up in front of me in 25 minutes. Good enough for me! (Plus, the pizza went really well with the beer.) You can get growlers to go as well, so if you find something you love you can take some home with you. Truly an awesome brewery - I'm excited to go back!

The Black Raven Brewing Co. is an eastside spot worth your time and money, especially if you need a break from the Eastside's most ubiquitous brewery, Redhook. Full review here: rosemaryrenaissance.word…

Black Raven is about the beer. Exquisitely crafted with stellar balance. This is the place for beer geeks and the casual beer drinker who still insists on quality. The downside is that it frequently very crowded and the service staff are overworked. The expansion helped for awhile but then more people just showed up to fill the available space. Growler fills and coming in on the off hours is my plan of attack. (Note: I am especially sensitive to space/crowd issues, others love the bustling crowds that flock there after work) Their seasonal beers are amazing and worth a trip across the lake just for beers like Wisdom Seeker, Barrel Aged La Petit Mort, Pour Les Oiseaux etc. Fun and tasty experimental casks every Wednesday

Black Raven is the real deal. beer of the highest quality! I have tried many beers in washington and oregon and black raven is still the best. There is only one brewery that stands above black raven and that is the St Ellias Brewery in Alaska. But outside of that Black Raven is as good as it gets in all brews especially the porter and sun thief. Plus you can order a pizza from across the street if you want.

Easily, my new favorite WA beer. Had heard about the brewery from a co-worker and decided to try it out since it was so close to the driving range I go to. Once I located it (a little difficult to find if you don't have GPS directions to it) I was blown away by the selection and the fact that I liked everything. High alcohol content in most of the brews and very hoppy (my fav beers are IPAs), but there are other beers that are just good, clean, and crisp.

Luv these folks. Not only do the support eastside jazz, the beer is stellar and the ambiance nice. The place really is too small though and always packed to the gills. I'd like to think that's because the patrons are their to hear my band. But most likely the place is just always hopping.

Delicious brews! Some of the most inventive specialty brews I've come across. The atmosphere is wonderful, but we wish they had a bit more in the way of food in-house and a bit more outdoor seating!

We had a great time here last night. We started with their sampler of 8 beers and went from there- great fun and a great crowd. You can bring your dinner or order pizza if you want food with your beer, otherwise, had some great conversation and a great time. We will go back soon! You can also get beer to take home with you- ask about the Growler!

The brewery is in a warehouse in the general vicinity of Willows Run Golf course. I had stopped by once when they first opened but recently had a client right near here so I got in several times in the last month or so. I really like it. The only thing that keeps me from giving it 5 stars is they don't serve food. They let you bring in or have anything delivered but if you don't know that going in you might end up drinking on an empty stomach. But it's a nice room with a few bar seats and maybe 15 tables between the front and back rooms. And because it's brewed on premises the actual brewers can be found having a post-shift pint and you can talk shop if your a beer nerd. The bar staff is very friendly and knowledgeable too. The beer is very good. I like the Pale or the Porter, which to me is more of an American brown than a traditional porter, as session type beers. The Trickster IPA is a great beer and when they had it, the Belgian strong ale was fantastic. They have a cask on Wednesdays and it goes fast. I missed it one night even though I was there a little before seven. Cheap growler fills and inexpensive mini-kegs too. Please support your local brewery! I want this one to make it and I don't live close enough to do it on my own!

Cool spot out by Microsoft. Evidently they've been "giving Redmond the bird". Nice guys, good (yet uninteresting) beers. Nice place though...good woodworked bar, friendly bartenders, and you can order food (pizza/pasta delivered inside the place). If you're on the Eastside check it out. On a yelp sense...it is clearly 5 stars...but for breweries...hit it only if your on the Eastside out of convenience...like a slightly overweight chick with nice tits on last call.

Is Black Raven the best brewery in the Seattle area? Let me drink more and I'll report back. Is it an excellent brewery despite only having been in business for about a year? Yes, certainly. Trickster (IPA), Wisdom Seeker (double IPA), and Pour les Oiseaux (saison) are all fantastic examples of their styles, and I would go so far as to suggest that Trickster is my favorite Washington IPA. The hops are clean and the alcohol level is just right to produce a beer that is smooth but not candy-sweet. This is a taproom rather than a brewpub, but that shouldn't deter you ( they'll let you have pizza delivered). $5 for an imperial pint is a pretty good deal and the taproom is surprisingly comfortable given its location in the middle of an industrial/strip mall neighborhood. Service seems to vary depending on how busy the place is. On a quieter afternoon, the people pouring the beer are friendly and attentive. When things are hopping, attention can be harder to get. Even if you can't make it to Redmond, consider Black Raven a required stop next time you see them at a beer festival. Just don't look for bottles at the store-with a few exceptions, the beer is only available on draft. All the more reason to head out to Redmond for a pint or two.

The old saying, "Once you go black you won't go back," is very true. You may just give up your yellow pussy beer. And I once had sex with a black woman and she never came back. WTF? Last Sunday I was having a strange beer day. I was on my way to Everett and was planning on stopping off at Scuttlebutt brewing and I noticed The Black Raven off Willows road. So I slammed on the brakes made a hard left and I'm in. A really cool tasting room greeted me. I tried the sampler first, threw out the yellow pussy beer which is a staple at every brewery and narrowed my choices down to three. I settled on the IPA. Pounded a few of those down. Now for the whiners who cry about service, it appears to me that this isn't a resturant, but rather a nicely decorated tasting room. You may have to walk the two steps to the bar to get your beer.

The facts: the people are awesome, the tasting room is cool, and the beer is some of the best I've ever tasted!!! One more reason I love living on the Eastside! Place is a bit hard to find the first time, but more than worth the quick search. You'll be a regular before you know it. Going right now to grab me a growler of IPA!

A hidden gem in Redmond's industrial area that opened March of 2009 by Beau and Kat. Very tasty local craft brewed ales and lagers available on tap or by the growler or keg. Trixter IPA is my regular favorite but the frequent changing flavor offerings will tempt you to try them all. The taproom offers a warm atmosphere of beautifully handmade hardwood tables and chairs. Grab a game, join a table and enjoy some great beer! The neighboring Flying Saucer Pizza partners with Black Raven and delivers wings and pizzas in speedy fashion when hunger strikes.

While its location within a business park is a bit unusual, Black Raven Brewing is a good place to stop for an after work/after mountain bike ride beer. The staff is friendly and prompt, and the selection of in-house brewed beers is pretty diverse and very tasty. It is important to note that Black Raven Brewing does not have a food menu, but the management has no problem with the beer swilling patrons bringing their own grub (pizza, etc.).

Went in on opening day almost a month ago and tried the Batch 1 Brown and it was great for a variety that I don't typically love. I then went in again on May 1st for the Grand Opening and tried the Hef which was truly spectacular! I had several pints and it just got better and better. I also tried the Nitro-powered Morrighan Stout and found it particularly hearty and delicious. I also tried a taste of the Trickster IPA and while I'd like to like IPAs, I just can't seem to enjoy the hoppy goodness as others do. If you like IPAs, I"m sure this one will become a fast favorite, but it's not my thing. However, the Hef is certainly something that I'll be going back again and again for. If you like a real German Hefeweizen, you'll love this yeasty brew that has light citrus overtones. The Tamerlane Brown Porter has become my favorite as wheat beers give me a morning headache even if I just have a pint. The porter is so rich and smooth that it's hard to drink just one and I manage to only have one about a quarter of the time.

UPDATE: Just wanted to say that I've now had all the beers and they are all great! Currently there are three guest taps, and six of their own beers. My favorite is still the Trickster IPA followed by the Totem Pale Ale. I usually drink the Pale though since the IPA is 6.8%. Great place. We went on the second night as I heard they had their Trickster IPA on tap. What a great IPA! It's one of the best IPA's I've had in a long while. Not over hopped and perfect for drinking, but you have to be careful, this one comes in at 7% alcohol. I was going to try their Brown Ale, but liked the IPA so much I stuck with that. They had plenty of other beers on tap and are adding more of their own in the coming weeks. Great little space with four tables and a small bar. Staff was friendly and attentive and my wife got her WABL passport stamped. Sadly I forgot my passport, but I ended up joining the Founders Club! Great place and I look forward to spending a lot of time there.

I have been here a few times, and it's always been a pleasure, if not sometimes a bit odd -- very northwest style! Generally, there's nothing to eat. They only serve beers and pretzels. Of course, if the food trucks are out front, they offer a changing variety, and you can bring in any outside food you like. I've seen people even order the pizza from across the street. In general, I'm big fan of the nitro stout. If you want to be hammered quickly, the Scottish Ale (Scotch Ale?) is also really tasty. Lots of locals, many tech workers, and a quirky place to enjoy quality brews in an unusual location.

The servers, the beer, and atmosphere can't get any better than here! We've been Ravenmasters two years in a row. The beer is great quality and worth every trip!

This place scares me. I would blow up like a balloon if I lived closer. Thank god I can only carry two growlers. Sunthief Kristallweizen - Great summer beer!! Nice and light! Tamerlane Brown Porter - Were not worthy!! This is bow down and suck it bitch beer! Legendary awesomeness!!! Best beer in the PNW! Second Sight Strong Scotch Ale - very good Scotch ale!! Trickster IPA - mmm I like IPA but this was just ok for me. Pour Les Oiseaux - Farmhouse Ale - I liked this beer too bad they don't do growlers on this one I would have ordered a few.

A little different. They don't serve food, but you can order from restaurants around Redmond, or a food truck that's outside. The inside was small, but it was summer and we sat outside. It was packed, and we took the last table. It was great to have a beer and spend time with friends. It wasn't the best brewery, but Redmond has few places to hang out.

I know, let's take a great Scotch Ale and put it in Bourbon barrels for a few months, what could be better than that? Splinter's is what Black Raven calls it, and until it is available again, I will just have to console myself with the Scotch Ale, Le Petit Mort and the numerous cask concoctions they release. If you love beer, then you have to go to Black Raven! Parking can be an issue. No food served (other than pretzels), but there is usually either a food truck in the parking lot or you can order pizza from Flying Saucer or Zeek's.

Love the beer here very trendy PNW place to taste and toast. No food unless the trucks are out so pack your own nuts.

Great place to spend a Friday night. The beer here is amazing and the staff is always super friendly and knows regulars by name. The brown porter and trickster are both outstanding. Flock party in May is usually a blast

Here's the deal. The main brewers do a great job - and its a great idea to have an eastside neighborhood pub. Props to the ex- Mac 'n Jack brewer on his venture. The problems: Front staff sets a new low for customer service. The number of "you gonna order or what?" comments are astonishing. Last week, I watched 3 guys admitting to being first timers asking why noone was waiting on them, and the bartender said "Well you can be a$$holes wanting us to wait on you, or you can get off your a$$ and come get a beer." It seems like her approach picked up where I left the last guy a year ago at my last visit. And the Trickster? The only tricky thing about it appears to be the recipe...never the same twice. Totem is solid though. I'll take Two Ton from Mac 'n Jacks over this polished turd any day... Grab a growler to go if you want, but not a seat....

I fail at life that I live so close and have friends who practically live here and it took their Flock Party on Cinqo de Mayo to get me in the door. Amber and I arrived pretty much right at noon that day (and incidentally didn't leave until nearly last call at 8pm) Throughout the day, I had a sampling of so many amazing beers. Some of their regular award winning offerings, a few of their "let's just throw some shit in a cask and see what awesomeness comes out later" brews and some rarities and special for the events. Holy goodness. They were all fantastic. Thanks to the tutelage of Amber and Evan over the years and her expertise of the day, everything she recommended I tried based on my preferences had me exclaiming, "Oh God", and "I LOVE this beer" pretty much all day long. As they've grown, so has their tasting room/bar area and for their big event the outside area was huge. 2 indoor bars, 4 outdoor meant even with a line somewhere it was fairly quick and endless choices. I vow to stop failing and start stopping by much, much more often.

Best beer on the eastside, hands down, and maybe the best beer in the state. I should preface that I prefer to drink IPAs, that the stronger and more floral the better. No food served except pretzles and peanuts, but you can order pizza to deliver. Get here early, the place fills up quick with the after work crowd. If you enjoy a nice hoppy IPA, do yourself a favor and order a pint of the Trickster to warm up and than a pint of the Wisdom Seeker to end the evening.

Black Raven is the standard for me when it comes to micro-brews. Beer is always good, enough to travel to it. Atmosphere is great with nice interior. I normally have a beer or two them fill my growlers.

Another brewery review from a reviewer who doesn't drink beer. Is that bad? I dunno, I just like to tag along and hope for cider or craft root beer. Which, Black Raven, did have thomas kemper on hand, but nothing on tap for me, bummer. They did have plenty of pretzels and peanuts for us to snack on, free of course. I really dug the atmosphere here. The place looked cool, had plenty of seating and I wasn't sitting a few feet from some random guy rambling on about something I don't care to hear. So yeah, nice seating arrangements. I heard the sinks in the bathrooms are cool too, I didn't require any sort of visit to that room. I can't comment on the beer, but as far as everything else is concerned, I had a nice visit.

Oh Black Raven, continuing to expand!!! I've always been a fan, but don't live on the eastside anymore. Everytime I go in, they have expanded or updated the taproom. Things must be going great for them...after being voted the best brewery in Washington. Love the beers, and they always keep the tap list fresh with some new items, but keeping the staples on draft as well. Bring in some take out and invite some friends, this place seems to be the spot to be every night I go!

My New Years Resolution for 2011 is to not be a stranger to Black Raven Brewery. And why wouldn't I? This cozy and warm Redmond brewery is so welcoming. They aren't trying to be a restaurant (although they have Flying Saucer Pizza takeaway menus on their tables), they are all about business time: BEER. Both times I've been here in the last week ("Hello Black Raven, my name is corey g, and I'm an alcoholic") have been awesome. For the first visit, we grabbed seats at the bar. Both ladies tending the bar were super soldiers working the trench and handling the deluge of beer barons. One of them was spunky and cute as she karaoke-ed her way around the taps. They were both nice and kept our glasses wet. On my first visit, I went for the Flight Of The Raven Sampler. I rolled down the lane and hit all the pins: 1) Sunthief Kristallweizen 2) Totem Northwest Pale 3) Trickster IPA 4) Tamerlane Brown Porter 6) Morrighan Stout (nitro) 7) Winter Desk Winter Wheat (seasonal) You know you are at a good brewery when each ale is a winner (in my mouth), distinct, and smile-inducing. Don't take my word for it, you'll find that most of these brews have beer awards up the ying yang. I can totally back up their winning of Best Brewery in WA. Last night, we only saw one bartender, and she had the tough task of handling a full tasting room of BR fans. Our glasses went dry a little, but she got around to everybody the best she could. I was the designated driver so on this night I only had a pint & a half of ale, a pint of water, and some lovely Flying Saucer pizza. Also dug the music they were spinning on this eve. I asked the tattoo-ed barkeep-ess what they were playing and she said it was a Ghostland Observatory station on Pandora (many people were Shazaaming songs throughout the night). A couple of other notable notes: Although they don't serve food, you can have Flying Saucer Pizza deliver a pizza right to your table (they'll ask you where you're seated in the tasting room, so before you imbibe too much note your geography). They also have pretzels and peanuts as a back up beer sponge. At the moment their current guest tap is Big Al's Beer Church Pale Ale. Let us prey.

My friend is the one who turned me on to this place. I live 10 minutes away, if that, and I had no idea this place was there. Came to the anniversary party yesterday which was super awesome. They had live bands playing and several different beer stations. The weather was decent so people were outside. The beer - oh man. So unique and so flavorful. The first one I had was "Pour les Oiseux" aka for the birds. Its a pale ale and it was TASTY! The second one I went with the Mexican surprise since it was Cinco De Mayo after all! And that beer when you took a sip would just evolve in your mouth. I drink wine and understand wine, but I have never tasted a beer quite like these. I had a few sips of my friend's beer who got La Petite Mort (aka French for Orgasm or literally translates to A small death HAR HAR HAR) and that was pretty dang good. In the end, I am DEFINITELY bring the whole crew back to this place because they would all LOVE it!

They have some good beers here. The service can be a little slow sometimes though, and the only way to get food is either from the food truck in the parking lot or order something local for delivery to you (unless you count the couple of snacks they have there). It's only a minor inconvenience but given the restaurant-like setup of the place it seems odd. The good thing about that is that you get a different style of food based on what food truck is outside at the time :)

Black Raven is as good as it gets for enjoying great brew! Within the last month they have added a second bar which makes the flow wonderful. I like all the beers at Black Raven, but my go-to is usually always the stout. The owners make you feel like your at home, the decor is warm and inviting and you certainly don't feel like you are sitting in an office/industrial area. Get there early as this is a popular place to meet a friend and enjoy a beer. No food available, however, Flying saucer is only a phone call away and delivery to Black Raven is free. Great Brewery, Nice people, Fun atmosphere.

Cool spot - some days they have food trucks in the parking lot, so you can enjoy some food with your beers. They also allow you to bring your own food or have takeout delivered. I recommend the taster tray to familiarize yourself with their brews. Nice patio available when the weather is nice. The servers can be a bit surly, but hey - it's part of the atmosphere.

BEER! BEER! This place is great. I usually hate everything associated with the Eastside, but we were biking around Lake WA, and made a stop here. They do not have food, but menus on the table, where you can call a pizza place and they will deliver to your table! How great is that? The beer is amazing, with some standard taps and some rotating. The gal behind the bar was so knowledgeable about the beer, that she just made me want to drink it instead learning about it. Get a few flights and try them all. The interior is cozy, and on a hot day, perfect getaway. Must stop for beer lovers.

I am not in the Eastside very often, but a few weeks back, the BF and I found ourselves at Black Raven. Here's what I liked: - The BEER! I always start with a sampler when we go to new breweries. Their sampler was reasonably priced, and the variety was great. My favorites were the nitro stout and the porter! - Since they do not have a kitchen, outside food is ok, actually, it's highly encouraged. During this visit, there was a taco truck parked outside and lots of people inside were enjoying tacos, burritos and such. There are lots of takeout menus on the tables, each of the places will deliver to the brewery without a fee. The BF ordered pizza from Zeek's, while I ordered pizza from Flying Saucer Pizza. They delivered our pizzas right to our table... super simple! - Large open taproom with lots of tables, and two big bars. Here's what I didn't care for: (and this is very minor) - The service. We were greeted very warmly by a woman when we first sat down. She went through their beer list with us, took care of our first round and checked in with us once. But after our pizzas arrived, she was no where to be found. We spent the rest of the afternoon ordering our beers from the bar. It was busy, but not busy enough to be ignored, IMO. Again, it's a very minor thing, though... all in all, the BF and I enjoyed our QT together and the beers (and pizza) we had. Black Raven Brewing gets 4.5 stars in my book. It's def a brewery I would visit again, if I was in the Eastside.

I was first alerted to this place when one of my favorite bartenders, Nigel from 3 Lions left to come work here. Finally, I made my way over. Although they don't serve any good, it doesn't matter.. the beer is incredible. Every beer I've tried is heaven in a glass. My qualifications? My favorite mainstream beers are Guinness, Stella, Bitburger, and Mac 'n Jacks. I strongly recommend the Trickster IPA if you like IPAs. Personally, I'm not an IPA drinker, but even I enjoyed this one. (I couldn't drink a full one. I'm a closeted lightweight and I'd be falling on my face if I did.) For a lighter note, get the Sunthief Kristallweizen. It's delicious and smooth and you can practically taste the honey. My next is going to have to be La Petite Mort. Why? Hell, just because of the name and because I'm elitist and enjoy it when things are pretentiously named in French. "A little death" sounds just up my alley of naughty. ;)

This is a dangerous thing to have within walking distance of the office. I'm also lucky that my favorite local hangout has their brown porter on tap. My favorite beer is hard to come by, the coconut porter. If you happen to see that on tap it shouldn't be missed. Usually coconut porters have a bit of that malibu rum suntan lotion flavor, this one definitely doesn't. It has the nutty flavor and slight sweetness from the coconut without tasting artificial. My second favorite is the sunthief kristallweizen which is light, citrusy, and sparkles like champagne. We have stopped by on a sunny Saturday when they were selling bratwurst on the back patio. They don't have any other food but that won't stop us from coming back and taking advantage of the ability to have Flying Saucer Pizza deliver to us at our table. On my last visit my dad and I got a flight of 7 samples for $7. The bartender took his time to explain the flavor profile and process used to brew each beer on the sampler tray. I noticed too late for my mom but they do offer a few wines as well if someone is crazy and doesn't like beer. Any time we have a BBQ or a dinner with more than a couple of beer drinkers we stop by for a growler. The only thing I would change is that I hope that some day they get to expand to a bigger location with more food options but until then I'll still be back very often.

Cracked a new bottle of Wisdom. There is some very slight variability batch to batch but this is one of the top 3 batches since inception. (from a local) Pour a glass, look at it, taste it, and be awed at what that light color can deliver in terms of taste, body and quality. Something unique about this batch is the creaminess out of the bottle. no hard edges, Strong but subtle. Stands above previous releases. Staff is AWESOME. Be patient. All the local and commuter love can make it busy at times you would expect.

Beer. Lots and lots of Yummy Beer. As always, I take too long to discover delicious places near me. I discovered Fremont Brewery AFTER I moved out of Fremont. I finally make it to Black Raven a couple weeks before I move out of Redmond. Luckily I am just moving to Kirkland, and I will still be close by, because I could definitely spend more time here drinking the night away. It's a cute taproom that is PACKED. Seriously, we showed up at like 5 pm on a Thursday and there were no tables. We had to be vultures eyeing people to leave just to get a table. It's worth it though. Delicious beers, cute nice bartenders, and flying saucer pizza delivered straight to your table. I really don't think you need anything else in life.

Black Raven beers have always been a favorite, personally and regionally it seems. They are always among the 1st to tap out at beer fests, an immediate order when I see it on a tap list, and never ever disappointing. Arrive at their taphouse and you might be initially put off by the business park you are standing in -- but walk inside and you enter a magical world full of warm rich woods, tall tables, two bars, and delicious delicious beers. If I lived anywhere in the proximity of Redmond I would be here weekly -- if not nearly every night of the week. This place can be relaxed to jam-packed psychotic, but both have their place and neither are off putting. The employees working the taps are clever, friendly, and entirely competent when it comes to serving pint after pint of beer. The beer itself? Amazing. Pales to Stouts -- they brew them all and they are all fantastic. (Im even a HUGE fan of their IPA's which is not a typical sip & drinker for me. I prefer an IPA paired with Spicy Thai or Indian Food). Im sure anyone can find their favorite -- though at this point Im having a hard time picking one. This is a taphouse -- not a bar or a pub, so no food from these guys. They handily have menu's for Flying Saucer Pizza and a hot dog cart parked outside. Order something in or bring nibbles of your own and spend a couple hours catching up with friends here. You won't regret it. I promise.

Great beer!! The porter was delicious and their Trickster IPA is the most popular beer for a reason! SO good! My boyfriend and I love trying local craft beers and this is a must visit!! The bar is beautiful - it gets busy fast! We came at noon and the place was already packed. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful when explaining the beer. They tap a limited brew - Coco Jones - OH MY GOD I dream about that beer.

Solid brew here at Black Raven. I came here for their 'Flock Party' last weekend and powered my way at least ten of their house brews before getting a ride home. The staff was friendly on what had to have been the busiest day of the year for them and the organization was applaudable. I'd go back here for a another beer anytime.

Black Raven brews some tasty beer, but I'm not really a fan of their taproom. The interior is actually quite nice, deceptively so--from the outside it looks like an ordinary office in a suburban business park. The beer was delicious, but they ran out of the Trickster IPA! Isn't this a brewery? Shouldn't there be more than 1 keg of their award-winning IPA laying around? The service was a little slow too, which may be partly attributable to the enormous crowd of drinkers on a Friday night. There's no food either, although you can order from nearby Flying Saucer Pizza, which will deliver right to your seat (I thought the pizza was so-so). Black Raven makes some great beer, but I think I'd rather save myself the trip and have some of their tasty brews on tap at one of my favorite pubs.

We really enjoyed a sunny Sunday afternoon on the patio here, especially since they are dog-friendly outside. We arrived shortly after opening and there were plenty of seats outside, but they were all full by the time we left a couple hours later. When I wandered inside to use the facilities, I was impressed by the expansive indoor seating. There are lots of smaller rooms, which is nice because they can seat a lot of people without it getting too loud. The tables and chairs are mostly bar height, but made of really cool wood. The inside is really beautiful, and I would definitely describe it as dark and manly. There was also a little nook with some comfortable leather couches and chairs. It looks like a great place to come when it's cold and rainy outside. The beers are really good - we had the sampler. It's a reasonable price to fill a growler, and they will let you bring in your own growler as long as its clean and dry. They don't serve food, but Flying Saucer pizza menus are on the tables and you can bring in other food too. The table also had a sign stating no table service, but we got table service. Maybe it depends on how busy they are. The staff was friendly when we were there. One of the girls even recognized my voice from calling on the phone the day before.

I do not live in the area but east of the cascades. I have made a serious effort to stop by and try the micro brew but on each of the two occasions the door says, closed. I give up, the beer is obviously not worth a third stop for me.... too many good micros in the area.

We came here after leaving Redhook. The Redhook tour was amazing, but the beers at Black Raven are better. Redhook is known for their ESB but the ESB here actually has flavor. This brewery is hard to find, but I'm glad we came here. No food, but they have good trucks in the parking lot and menus for pizza, and Thai, places on the table. Friendly and obvious beer crowd bartenders. Very cool vibe and great beers. Oh, and they have two two beers aged in white and red wine barrels from local wineries. Great experience if you like small batch craft beers.

I literally plan my schedule around the release of their Wisdom Seeker beer. But all of the beer here is all done well. It's polished, complex, interesting - and hop forward true to northwest style. If it's your first time here (or you want to share the awesomeness of Black Raven with someone else) get the sampler, it's a great value and it comes on a slick wood rack. In fact, the whole place features beautiful natural grained wood, dim lighting, and great design - a surprise given Black Raven's location in the middle of an industrial park. There's no food but they'll give you free nuts and/or pretzels to keep you there and drinking. They also allow outside food and there's a pizza place nearby that delivers. Go, enjoy, just don't drink all the Wisdom Seeker before I can get there!

Randomly found this place several years ago driving down willows road in Redmond. Has expanded, done well, and brews just awesome beer. The Scotch Ale rocks and there is always something great available from their small batches. Add this place to your list of stops . You won't be sorry!

BEER-LOVERS PARADISE FYI - No food onsite. You order from one of the many awesome pizza places nearby, and they deliver it to you (interesting concept, it works!) Please get a taster with EVERYTHING on it just to sample everything. Your palette will be educated and expanded. My fave of the evening was the scotch ale "Second Sight". It went great with our pizza, but the stout tasted mighty fine, and if I hadn't been planning on stuffing my gullet with pizza, I probably would have opted for it...

Such a great, casual place to hang out and relax with your friends while you imbibe some of the best bear that the NW has to offer. The new deck is a great place to hang in he sunshine. Bring your own food or have it delivered. This is a Taproom, so no kitchen. Happy Hot Dogs is a great food cart and they have others that come throughout the week. Flying Saucer Pizza is good too, but now I am not review the Raven. :) The beers are fabulous! Ask for what is on limited release as those are usually some of my favorites.

I have loved coming to this Brewery for along time! It has grown so much since the early days and now includes awesome outdoor seating. The Bartenders are great here! They have always been quick to grab you one of their amazing drinks. Absolute favorite is the Trickster IPA! Hands down one of the most consistently great tasting IPAs...plus it packs a punch so you get your moneys worth. I have not tried to many other beers here because of the Tricksters awesomeness. They had a Wisdom Seeker that also tops my list. Some people might think that no food in the building is a downside, but I like how it keeps the turnover fast and the vibe more about the beer. Plus, you can order some awesome Flying Saucer Delivery Pizza straight to your table. Overall, amazing place to sit down enjoy a beer, watch a game, eat some delivered food. If you are in Redmond and don't stop by this place, you are doing yourself a disservice!

The Tamerlane Brown Porter is delicious. I actually like the choppiness of the venue. Nice crowd. There's plenty of food establishments around and you can eat it there. Need more outside seating. The short chubby waitress insisted that I say "please"...whatever.

The trek into a sterile business park land to get the beer of Black Raven Brewing is worth the effort. For some reason this type of setting just seems appropriate for the Seattle metro area. A touch of the scenic Northwest beauty butted right up against the hum of offices, industry and suburbia. Had to give a run at the brown porter first. They take a lot of pride in it being the first beer they brewed and would be considered their flagship effort. It had good balance with light roasted malt character and body. Nice to see the brewery focused on a less trendy beer style and take pride in doing it well. Finished with a taster tray of the other beers to get a feel for the overall trajectory of the brewery style. Everything was well crafted without any real flaws which tells me they have a solid appreciation for the art of beer making not just marketing. I would be interested to try some of their beers in the bottle or can if they go that route. Good brewery and beers, not a date night brewpub for anyone other than beer geeks.

If you haven't been, you must go. If you have been, keep going. When I went, the place was slammed so I figured I wouldn't get much in the way of service. I live in southern Cali, so I was settling in on being disappointed. Was I ever wrong! Even though they were very busy, the bartender (didn't catch her name) was as friendly and helpful as could be. I ordered the flight of 10 different beers, and she took time to explain them all and talk about them with me. Since they don't distribute, getting to their brewery was a big deal. Their beer was awesome, their staff is great, and I'd gladly make the 1200 mile drive again for their Rare Birds beers!

If I lived in Redmond, I'd be in such trouble. The service was friendly, the environment was fine enough, the t-shirts and marketing schwag were clever, and the beer was spectacular. Today we tasted 8 of their 10 available beers, leaving out only the IPAs. Of the 8, only one made me shrug. The rest were fabulous. Their Sunthief Kristallweizen was a super-lovely light crisp beer. Their Kitty Kat Ale smelled like blueberry muffins and the blueberry overtones were delicious. Once we reached the Brown Porter, I was in heaven, and then we proceeded though the delight of a chocolate-y stout, a Scotch ale, a belgian-style dark ale, and other tasty treats I can't remember. The only disappointment is that several of our favorite beers were nitro and couldn't be out in growlers to take home. I had hoped that this brewery with its clever names and dark raven-based theme would be enjoyable...and it really was. I look forward to wandering in again!

I've been a big fan of Black Raven's beers as they've showed up on tap around Seattle recently and since I was spending the summer working in Redmond, I finally got a chance to check out the brewery/taproom and it's pretty damn cool. The atmosphere is really well done with lots of quirky wood tables in the front room and super tall chairs, but the cool part is as you walk back you get to see all of the barrels and kegs they have their beer stored in and you can see all of the equipment just sitting there, but despite this it doesn't smell terrible in the way that many functional breweries do. Out back there's a small fenced-in patio with tables that is perfect for a Seattle summer evening. The only downside is the food. They only served peanuts, but they did keep menus to order delivery from the pizza place next door.

Solid beer and, wait for it, table service. I finished the last of a pint and clanked the glass down only to look up and see a server asking me if I was ready for a refill. And she smiled. Holy Crap, I almost fell over... good beer in Redmond AND service? I'm used to the no food model (M&V), but couldn't get past the fact that there was friendly staff happy to take my order! Trickster is an old faithful IPA and I'm defintely a fan of the Wisdom Seeker. Primary downside for me is the parking. Late afternoons are brutal and Friday is just terrible, unless you're a chach and park in another business's reserved spot.

WIN! so, by chance we wandered over to this business complex and found black raven...i am sooo glad we did! it is a bit unusual to find a brewery smack dab in a business complex so i didn't know what to expect. walking in, it was cozy and small-i almost felt like i was walking into a friend's basement bar. the patrons were diverse and had a small faint smile on their faces as if they were in total euphoria...good sign... we got a sampler of their beers-not knowing what to expect. so here is what we had: trickster ipa, totem northwest pale, Sunthief Kristallweizen, their unfiltered hef and the second sight scotch ale. it was a wind up from lightest to darkest and i'll say that the trip there was amazing. each were very different and unique. i'd suggest the trickster, their unfiltered hef and the second sight scotch ale. they have an outdoor seating area which was cool...we sat out back and had a few brats from the bbq and enjoyed our beers. now, they typically don't serve food but you can get a pizza delivered from flying saucer right to your table...pretty sweet. this place definitely focuses on the beer.

On our 1-week road trip of (mostly) Eastern and Central Washington, this was the one brewery that we visited west of the Cascades. The beer was good, we ordered-in (quite a few restaurants deliver there), and we got very relaxed. Mmm.

I was shocked and fell instantly in love with Black Raven. I am used to seeing breweries in business parks, but never are they as big with as much seating as Black Raven. This is supposed to be small? No way! There was at least 10 or more tables and a bunch of seating, and I loved that all their tables and chairs were re-purposed wood with natural edges...it was a lovely touch. No matter how awesome and obsessed I was with the internal feel, all that really matters is how the beer tastes. I tried their Trickster IPA which was 7% ABV with 70 IBU's and it was pretty fantastic. It was a very drinkable IPA with a great floral biscuit flavor so it comes at no surprise that it won NABA 2009 Silver Medal - Strong Pale Ale category. This is a great local spot so if you are in the area you need to stop by - it's worth it!

Black Raven opened their doors in April of 2009 - grand opening May of 2009 - and they haven't looked back. Anyone in the craft beer scene here in Washington state knows about Black Raven Brewing. Beaux and company have been constantly expanding the tap room, their beer line up, and everything else they can to keep branding their name across the area. For the occasional beer drinker, try a flight to sample what BR has to offer. For the seasoned beer drinker, you already have a BR favorite(s) I'm sure - just like I do. Flying Saucer Pizza will deliver a pie to your table. Or, on most days, a food truck will be on premises to handle your hunger cravings. If you find yourself in the area, check Black Raven out. They're leading the pack on the eastside - and pretty soon the state!

If you haven't tried Black Raven before, stop what you're doing and go there right now. Seriously, right now. I've never been a real beer drinker until I came in one day and got their sampler with a friend. The server was very knowledgeable and friendly, talking us through the entire rack. I quickly found a few new favorites and picked up a growler right away. I discovered later how packed this place can get, but luckily all I need is to pop in and get my half-gallon of Second Sight and I'm on my way.

Positives: IPA, Black and Tan (made with Scotch Ale and Irish stout on Nitro) Awesome little brewery located in a business square, they were out of several of the beers, but we loved them anyways. The service was amazing, and the locals were hilarious. We shared the tasting set, and the bartender also mixed up a delicious Black and Tan (see above for recipe). My favorite was their Double IPA, made with 4+ hops, incredibly complex and delicious. Also, if you're hungry, there's a pizza joint down the street that will deliver. They make a pretty tasty Greek Salad.

Pretty good dark beers. I like the Suntheif Krystalweizen too. Decent service and decent prices with a food truck always in the parking lot and a bunch of menus on the table to order food for delivery. I've never taken the time to eat any food there, but I do like the beers!

During my weekend trip to watch the Oakland A's take on the Mariners and hit as many breweries as this area had I have to say this is a must see and taste brewery. Great atmosphere, great employees and great beer here at the Black Raven. The sampler is very reasonable and they have a bunch of different types of brew to enjoy. If I'm ever back in the Seattle area I will seek out this brewery again!

If you like bitter beer, go here! I am not a bitter beer drinker so I didn't care for their selection. Many breweries make various beers for different tastes. . . even though it seems like it here, I'm not much of a fan as they all seem to have the same bitterness no matter the flavor or style of beer. Same taster's choice perhaps? Enough about that, the atmosphere is ok overall and has a very difficult layout with no room, even on a non busy day. Whenever I want to go of course, they are always busy and since the layout is so odd, there usually is no space, not even a proper area for overflow. I always felt like I was in someone's way or just needed to go somewhere else. The food truck option outside is pretty neat but they don't get stars for that since it is not their food truck and someone else's idea. This place is OK and close to the famous campus near by so it makes it easy for those people I guess.

Before I start, I want to clarify that I am a fan of this brewery and (some) of the beers they brew. However it doesn't quite get a 5 star rating from me for the following reasons: Some days their services are decent and some days they are just off. I always seem to see at least one new server and/or bartender every time I visit and I don't mean that as necessarily a good thing. Some of their beers are great. My favorites are Great Grandfather Raven, Grandfather Raven, Wisdom Seeker, La Mort Rouge, an maybe a few others. All of their other brews are just okay. Not bad but definitely not great. I partially blame the typical Seattle beer drinkers who seem content with drinking just okay beer and dont venture out to try new stuff. It's really funny because a lot of people I interact with on a daily basis seem to be into beer at surface but most of them don't actually seem to want to try anything new! "They" arrive and just get their go-to amber or pale ale. And they order "another" pint of the same beer when they are done wirh the first pint. I digress.... but yeah maybe the brewery has to adjust to cater to this type of crowd. I showed up a day after the Great Grandfather Raven release (their best beer imho) and noone was drinking it!! If this was Michigan, Chicago, or even San Diego, this beer would have gotten some national attention already!! And the keg would have kicked the same day. In Seattle/Redmond, it's still flowing. More for me I guess! Anyway, Black Raven is the best brewery on the Eastside by FAR. It's actually pretty much the only brewery I visit on a regular basis in the Bellevue/Redmond area. They are experimental with their beers (playing with different barrels, etc) which is awesome (please keep this up!!). The brewery doesn't serve food but there is usually a food truck in the parking lot or you can get food delivered or via take out from restaurants nearby. Highly recommended!

Cant go wrong with the beer here. Really nice atmosphere, but can get pretty crowded at times.

We met some friends here for dinner and drinks and enjoyed ourselves. The place was pretty crowded when we arrived around 5:15, and we were lucky to get a parking space. The taproom is spacious and can seat about 100 people. Our server was friendly but seemed like he was rushed or too busy. He seemed irritated when four of us ordered flights. They were out of the stout which was disappointing; I was looking forward to trying it. There's no food at the brewery but you can order pizza or sandwiches from local places. We had Zeeks pizza delivered which was yummy as always. We got a growler of the red ale to go, and it was reasonably priced at $10.00 for a fill. We will be back for more!

I really like Black Raven. Not my favorite area, but their beer is so good, it can be easily overlooked. By far the best brewery in the Redmond area. Everyone who works here is awesome! Oh, and they typically have a food truck out front, and so far, every one has been a winner! If the weather is nice, try snatching a table outside. Even in a somewhat industrial area, it's worth it!

This was my favorite brewery we visited in Washington. My husband and I came an hour before they closed and decided to try samples of all the beer on the menu. Every beer was so on the nose in terms of flavor, quality, and style. I was behind impressed. Staff were extremely friendly and passionate about beer and working at the brewery, which really added to our experience here. I cannot say enough great things about this place and my only regret is that it's so far from home.

  • Carolyn H.

My favorite brewery on the east side, maybe even in the whole state. I bet you're wondering why... The beer is amazing. There is a wide variety and the draft list is constantly rotating. The service is friendly and just normal. I don't need someone to oversell me on beer. I just want someone who will give me a simple recommendation, make a light conversation and serve me the beer. The food trucks. Can't beat food trucks in the parking lot. The parking lot... Yeah lots of parking. That's awesome. I cannot wait to go back.

Nothing beats a cold, refreshing beer outside on a hot summer day. And these guys know their beer! No food, just beer. If you want food, get it delivered. It was my first time here with some (local) friends but hopefully, it won't be my last.

Black Raven is tucked into a little corporate park, strange, other than that oddity the place has a great ambience and most importantly their beer is great.

  • Amanda B.

What a great little place! Much much smaller than Redhook, and also much more intimate. You don't have to get a full flight if you don't want to try all the beers, which I loved. We wanted to try all nine, so we were able to get a full flight and then half of another, and were charged per tasting. Awesome. I've never had that experience when doing other tastings. The bartender actually came over to see how we were doing, which I thought was a nice touch. The beer was great--lots of variety. The have a mean barley wine and and a great Scotch ale. Would definitely go back. The good: easy to find seating and great beers. The bad: uhh...I'm grasping at straws. Just check it out and see it for yourself. It's great.

At $5.50 for a 20oz pint, this is the cheapest craft brewery I've encountered...not to mention that the brews are completely satisfying. I came here for a quick drink on a weeknight. The place was pretty full, but we were able to find a table for two--I think it was the last available one, so phew! They have I think six regulars, and a few rotating specials. They let us sample beers before ordering, which was pretty swell of them. I had the nitro stout, which was chewy, dark, and delicious. My boyfriend got the kristallweizen, a light beer that is rarely encountered this side of Germany. It's the perfect summer drink. We were so happy with our pints that we decided to invest in a growler of one of their specials, a session ginger whiskey ale. I can't wait to be back here for another round of pints.

So as to not repeat what everyone else has already said, I'll keep this review short and sweet. Black Raven is an excellent place to grab a pint and watch the game or hang out with friends. Their beers are excellent, and I always enjoy their Trickster IPA or their Second Sight Strong Scotch Ale. Parking is a bit of an issue, so you may have to park down the street, but hey, it's good exercise to work off those beers you're about to have. All in all, five stars.

  • Megan K.

Can't go wrong here! I've been twice and was pleased both times. There are beers to suit your entire crew. We visited with hop lovers, dark beer lovers and belgian style lovers. We were all happy and couldn't wait for the next round of crisp cool tastiness! The vibe is great too, nothing fussy but far from a dive. I would describe it as sophisticated cool with a good dose of PNW charm. They don't serve food (aside from peanuts and pretzels) but they do have local food delivery menus if you want to order in. Go - you'll be happy you did!

On a recent trip to Seattle I asked a friend about must hit breweries and he put Black Raven on that list (especially because it was right down the street from a work meeting I had in Redmond). I totally agreed with his assessment. The only downside about this place was that it was absolutely packed. I went with a flight but customized it up a bit to get the offerings I was interested in. I'm usually more of a stout and porter sorta guy. I really liked La Mort Rouge and their Second Sight Scotch Ale.

Finally got a chance to head over to Black Raven in Redmond today. It was lunch so we dropped by Willows Deli and picked up a sandwich, a few pizzas from Flying Saucer and headed over for a few brews. Both are very close so picking up food before coming over isn't a big deal if you think ahead. Nice decor with lots of dark wood and a few comfortable chairs. I liked the coziness of the interior. I've read that it can be come crowded, but we were in for lunch and it was all to ourselves. I had the flight of beers to get a good cross section and let me say I liked everyone of them. Normally, you find a few less than tasty ones at some other breweries; but I loved every one of them. The beer here is top notch and some of the best. Ended up buying a few bottles of BirdBrain, BeakTweaker and Pour Les Oiseaux to partake at home. You'll really like coming here!

Go here for beer. Sounds obvious, but let me explain. First off, there is no food, except for snacks like pretzels (free) and peanuts ($5... seriously?). However, they do offer a stack of to-go menus at each table, encouraging you to order from nearby establishments. We opted for Pegasus pizza and it arrived within 15 minutes. You really can't go wrong with which beer you choose. We got samplers of each kind, 10 in all. I liked nearly all of them. Actually, I really liked them. 8/10 passed with flying colors, and 4/10 were named favorites. Of those favorites, 4/4 were IPAs. The final verdict? Wisdom Seeker Double IPA was chosen for a pint. The only ones I didn't enjoy were the gun powder porter. This one doesn't even sound appetizing, and had a very funky taste to it that none of us enjoyed. Second was the pumpkin stout, which didn't provide enough pumpkin or spice notes to be recognizable. The atmosphere, decor, and service were all wonderful. I especially like the oddly shaped wooden tables. Just be careful if you grab a seat by the door, it can be drafty.

Be still, my beating heart. This is only a review, not a trip to these hallowed lands. Black Raven brewery is the fuel that drives the fires of my soul. The atmosphere in here is very relaxed and welcoming. The only offer their on beers on tap, but really what more do you need? They have everything you could want here as far as brews are related. Are you a hophead? Their Trickster IPA is complex, citrusy, and bitter in the exact way you want it to be. They have a great selection of pale ales as well. Are you a malty like me? Their Second Sight Scotch Ale is second to none, and the Tamerlane Brown Porter blows my mind every time. They don't have food beyond pretzels and nuts, but there is a slew of local eateries that will deliver to you in the tasting rooms and there is always a food cart or too in the parking lot to soak up some alcohol. Stop in on Wednesdays to try their limited random casks of mad-science like experimental beers.

Stop by occasionally. Today with the spouse. BEER: 4.5. Excellent pilsner today. If only pilsner was available throughout the year. AMBIANCE: 3.5. Outside decent. Inside comfortable with warm wood décor. SERVICE: 2.0. Despite the hairball in my second glass of beer, I enjoyed myself.

I was with a group of friends last Wednesday when our server lost it on one of the group for whistling to get her attention. I didn't hear him whistle but knowing him, the gesture was completely innocuous. He was trying to get her attention to give her a tip. He'd tried waving and calling her and the whistle was a tongue-in-cheek gesture in mock frustration. It is difficult to get this server's attention at the best of times. In addition, she's humorless and apparently extremely sensitive to what she perceives as offensive. She's in the wrong line of work to be so thin skinned. The final straw came when another server came out and applied a verbal beat down, refused to even consider that it might have been an overreaction on her compatriot's part and then finished with "we good?" My friends and I have been going there every Wednesday for the last 4 years but no more. There are many brew pubs in the Redmond area that actually appreciate their customers and whose servers would not overreact in such a negative manner to something so incredibly trivial. This is not an isolated incident. On another occasion, this same server managed to give away my friends credit card to another customer for which he signed the check and proceeded to leave with it. The rest of the staff are great and the beer is the best, but I can no longer support a business that has such low regard for their customers.

Great beer, food trucks and a nice ambiance ..... what more can you ask for from a brewery? Trickster, Sunthief and so many other fabulous beers including the occasional barrel aged beer when they are available. Great place during the summer or on warm sunny days, sitting out on the patio and drinking. Yes, parking can be a problem (please respect the neighbors by not parking in spots marked for them) especially during normal weekday business hours since even street side parking can be limited, but overall it is a great place to go. Unfortunately I had to leave before meeting the guys from Stone who stopped in recently ......

Wow, what is wrong with the two servers here!? Unenthusiastic and rude, not friendly in the least bit. Come on, you work at a freaking brewery!! Find a new job if you are just going to sit behind the bar and bad mouth coworkers or other people. As a frequenter of many many breweries, this one definitely finished on the bottom of the scale. 1.) Due to the piss poor service, and 2.) the beer is par at best. Stopped here on a whim checking out breweries in Redmond area.....How disappointing! If it wasn't for the super friendly hotdog lady and the delicious dog, it would have been a complete bust. Take some lessons from her!

They are the Washington gods of beer, constantly coming up with new flavors. Most restaurants in the Seattle area now carry atleast one of their beers on top. The totem pale ale has to be my favorite

Beer - GLORIOUS BEEEEER! I really love this place. I love the beer. I love the look of the interior. I love the servers - awesome/funny people. I cannot wait for the day they are able to expand into a larger space and offer food. They do have food trucks alternating in the parking lot and sell peanuts/pretzel, as well as allow people to have food delivered or brought in. This place is a regular stop for myself and my coworkers. We typically go in groups and some how we always manage to find a table that will fit everyone. I have nothing bad to say about this place. It gets busy/crowded and closes a little earlier than normal bars, but it's worth stopping by and having a pint! EDIT - ALSO... beware the parking scenario. Respect the neighbors and pay attention to the parking signs. You can always park on the street if the lot looks too full.

Black Raven is one of my favorite breweries -- it's small and intimate with a lot on tap. I love their Trickster and the Second Sight Scotch. If you don't like rich beers, you may not like Black Raven. They definitely specialize in the darker and more flavorful beers. Many of them are a little on the bitter side, and I'm a sucker for a bitter beer. I love the La Petite Morte when I can get it. It's dark and has some amazing flavors -- I highly recommend getting a taste if you see it on the menu. According to the website, the flavors are " plums and raisins, vanilla, deep caramel notes, and wonderful earthy tobacco tones." I love the depth of it. I brought my father in law to Black Raven, he tried the Second Sight Scotch and we came out with a growler -- it was finished before the end of the night. I bring all visitors and beer snobs here -- it's that good!

I've found my new bar this month and it's Black Raven. Good beer and cider along with the ability to bring my own food in? Check. Amazing little party area that's nice and quiet? Check. Great staff with personality? Check. I anticipate drinking a lot more this summer.

Glad I finally made it to this brewery! I am now a fan. Pros: Great beer. Helpful bartenders when you're not sure what to order. Lots of great pub table seating and a great relaxed ambiance. The staff provided table service when the bar was crowded, which was really appreciated. I came with co-workers but I would definitely return with a date or friend. Cons: Parking can be difficult. No food. Can be tricky to find since its in an industrial park.

My husband and I LOVE Black Raven! The beers, the patio, the food delivery near by and easy to call. Go visit them, you will not be disappointed. My husband is an IPA drinker (if its hoppy he is in) and he loves the Trickster. Prefer the Sunthief at least for summer, light, crisp, refreshing. Really you can't go wrong.

The beast from the east... This place dominates as a brewery on the East King County area. 6 standard beers on tap and always a few "Rare Birds". Rare Birds? What? Rare Birds are their one offs, seasons, selects, and occasional releases. Try the Old Birdbrain Barleywine if given the chance!! There is no food here which is always a downside when alcohol is involved; however, Black Raven does have plenty of food menus so you can order in. Heck, bring your food in!! Black Raven constantly has releases of special beers every month. Every Wednesday is a special cask and the blends created within the cask are amazing. Join their mailing list to hear about all their events, casks, and releases!

Black Raven is a great spot to quaff some hearty microbrew, hang out in comfy leather chairs or hand made wooden chairs, hang out with friends or just chill out and catch up on Facebook and email. The music and decor is cool, the clientele rustic geeky chic, and did I mention that the beer is great? Very cool place.

Fantastic IPA's. Hipster attitude of "Big Chimpin" behind the bar needs to be addressed. Metal music is for staff and not patrons. With that said, great place

It's time to update my Black Raven review. I've always enjoyed the place but seriously it's just fantastic and deserves 5 stars. Hands down fav craft brewery in the area. Fab ambiance, people and top notch beer equals A++++!!! There are two bars inside, both are well staffed by amazing and friendly people. I haven't experienced better "bar" service anywhere. The beer consistently delivers. Love that every Wednesday is cask night, the recent Brown w Reese's PB Cups blew my mind!! Also like that they have "rare bird" beers, special beers that are only available for a little while. They still don't serve food but they provide a lot of menus to order from. The Thai place is awesome!! There's often also a good truck parked out front. If you haven't been to Black Raven yet, please please please do yourself a favor and go in immediately!!!!

I was really excited to finally visit Black Raven Brewing and when we arrived the waitress/bartender was extremely rude to us the minute we walked in the door. I don't think I will make the drive out of our way to visit this brewery again. Very disappointed.

Quite possibly the most depressing brewery I've ever walked into. My 2 friends and I walked in, probably 20-30 people were there and it was DEAD silent. Staff seemed like they really could care less about being there. Great tasting beers, the scotch ale was absolutely spectacular. Just wish their atmosphere was more desirable, if you enjoy conversations without a smartphone in your face or enjoy a good laugh with friends, not the place I would recommend.

    (2)
  • James C.

First off and most importantly: great beer. Love the 2nd Sight Scotch ale and Trickster IPA. Wish they had food in house but they have plenty of delivery menus scattered around and encourage people to order in. And the atmosphere is amazing. I love the interior look of the place with the raw feeling stained wood.

Made a special trip to Black Raven to try their beer - and had great beer, great pizza and a fabulous time. We started with a sampler (all good!) and then settled on the Hochzeit Pils (which had just been released) and the Kitty Kat Blues. They don't have a kitchen but the food truck outside made great pizza and delivers them to your table. Great service, friendly people. An all around good time!

  • Joe Bob C.

This is my absolute favorite brewery on the Eastside. The offering is 100% Black Raven beers. If you are an IPA fan, you are in luck, as the Trickster is always on tap, and often time there are limited release IPAs available on tap as well. My move is typically a growler to go. although many times the wife and I will head there for an evening. The food situation is pretty straightforward as well; the website reflects what, if any, food truck will be in the parking lot, and there are delivery menus from the local pizza joints on the table as well. The bar can get crowded on the weekends, but the beer is well worth the wait and the hassle. Also, they tend to close sometimes early (relative to a 2 a.m. bar closing), so watch that. Right now, you cannot get a better brew in Redmond.

Delicious beers and a chill environment to hang out. If you're looking to try something interesting and tasty - this is a great place to visit. The service was prompt and friendly, prices were reasonable. A great time.

OK there are a lot of breweries in the area now. So its pretty hard for one to stand out. Black Raven stands out and then some. The beer here is masterfully crafted, each one unique and delicious. They also have special releases and seasonal beers that will rock your world. The taproom itself is very cozy. Low lighting with lots of dark wood gives this place a very intimate feel while having the fun atmosphere of a great NW brewpub. Cheers to the flock!

My opinion.... best brewery in seattle area. No food.... (they focus on what they do best. BEER)

    (5)
  • Rich H.

Get past the "no food" (you can have it delivered there); the beer is extraordinary. I still cannot believe how "small" this place is. Funky layout; staff is terrific. WILL be overrun by bicyclists on nice weekend days. It's -- well its what that well known brewery in Woodinville was before it went macro. Just a great place tucked in an office park. Go!

    (5)
  • Tom B.

Man, these guys are just killin' it, and the evidence is everywhere you look. It's just about the beer here, they don't have a kitchen and they don't pour much other than their own brews. But if you're a beer lover there's definitely nothing else you need. They're still in the same place where they started a few years ago, but they have completely transformed it. They added extra space to the tasting room, then some more, then opened a wall, then branched rooms off of that new room, and there's outside seating, and so on, and so on. It's just an anonymous little office park building, and they're a dime a dozen in the 425--but there guys have made it into a thriving, bustling spot where people can come hang out and enjoy really good beer. Now, you CAN order in pizza and otherwise get fed here. They've got you covered that way. So it's not like a beer endurance challenge or anything. It's just that they don't make the food themselves. The staff are really funny and friendly and easy to talk to about beer, whether you're a geek with a million little questions of a newb with a million basic questions or somewhere in between. They're super busy most of the time, to be fair, but you can be sure you're getting the beer you want and you'll understand what you're drinking. The expansion actually has big ramifications for them as a business. They're something of a cult brewery, if you didn't know, and there are a lot more people wanting to try their beers than there are beers available. They can't get kegs to everyone who asks for them, so, the farther you get from Redmond, the harder it is to find their stuff pouring. Their bottling is extremely limited, but their reputation extends nationally and even internationally, and for everybody who cracks a bottle of BR, there are 25 people scattered everywhere wishing they could have had some. A very nice problem to have, right? But still a problem that takes a massive commitment to remedy. And they've made the commitment. They're massively expanding their brewhouse, and the storage, labs, bottling, and everything else that goes with that. By the end of 2014 they'll be producing way more, and doing it way more efficiently with much more advanced equipment. This is *such* great news, for them and for us. As it stands now, their lineup runs to big ales, with high grav, big bodies, strong flavors, and powerful aromatics. They try everything, though, from traditional styles that you might not have even heard of to sours and fruit beers and stuff that they just totally made up that has no recognized style classification. They're true creative spirits in this way. Most importantly, they succeed in the beers they make. You'll never come in here and drink something just because it's weird and one of a kind--if they do have a weirdly singular beer pouring when you come in, it'll also be good, maybe even amazing. Another thing to know is that they barrel-age a ton of different things. This means bigger beers with even more powerful flavors, and it also means waiting months or even years to get to try them. For the average drinker, this might or might not make you impatient. It does mean they have special releases of beers that only come out one day a year, and you have to keep your ears peeled if you want to try them. Their barrel room has windows on two sides, so you can always see the beers becoming one with the wood, taunting you with their deliciousness and making you wait. Best of all, they like to have fun. Last night, while they were cleaning up after brewday, there was a disco ball spinning above the fermenters, and Kool and the Gang were playing on the hi-fi. I've got nothing but love and compliments for these guys, and I wish I could get my hands on at least one glass of everything they make.

I love the cheap pint glasses here. They are so classy looking and at 2 for $5 (or $3 each), a real bargain. I really wanted to like the beer here, because I love the name and the logo and atmosphere, but I just didn't. I hate IPAs, although I did try all 3 that they had on tap. They also had a few seasonal beers (barley wine! random dark stouty things! some kind of spiced thing!) which I think I liked better than most of the regular beers on tap. That being said, I liked the atmosphere, although I wish they had sold food.

Great Brewery. Gavin was our bartender and he was awesome. Great place to go to before a concert at Marymoor. The beer was what i expect from an award winning Brewery.

I come here regularly for growlers fills. They now offer their own half-growler, aka squealers, which is a nice size if not sharing. FYI, they do not like filling long neck growlers - too much foam, wastage. Personal favorites are the Sun Thief and the Pale Ale. Occasionally they also have bottles to go. Really enjoyed the citrus IPA.

The beer sampler is great fun to try but to my taste, there was nothing I'd want to order more of. They do not serve food so when there are no food trucks prepare to order mediocre takeout delivered to your table. I appreciated that the waiters/bartenders never rushed us even though we were at a large table. The vibe amongst other people in the brewery was also friendly. A fellow drinker offered slices of his birthday cake while we were there.

Great beer and awesome atmosphere. Try the wisdom-seeker and make sure to come in on cask Wednesday to try some truly unique beers (more often then not that's a good thing.)

I love Black Raven. It's one of the best local breweries with great all year beers and even better seasonal options. They don't serve food, but lots of local restaurants will delivery food to the tasting room. Just wish they had one in Seattle!

I love you, Black Raven, and it's high time I threw in my five stars in to support your tasty, tasty brewing. Situated in an assuming business park, this taproom has delicious offerings that everybody (who can) has to try at least once. Though I'm still getting used to IPAs what I do like I find that I love at Black Raven. My favorites are the lighter Sunthief Kristallweizen, and the Tamerlane Porter! There aren't too many tables so it can get pretty crowded in the early evening on weekends. In previous times we've found a large table with only 2-3 other patrons and they were really cool about sharing seating. For food they have pretzels and peanuts, there is a food cart situated outside of the taproom on most days, and a couple pizza places nearby that will deliver to your table.

This place is awesome, even though I'm not a beer enthusiast. I did try their Sunthief, which was nice, light and tasty. Their Trickster was pretty good even though I'm not a huge fan of IPA's. We came on the first sunny Friday of the year, first day they opened their patio seating. It was lovely. It was also packed, but we did get lucky and scored ourself a table right near the door. They do no serve food, but do have lots of delivery options and food trucks that sit outside. I went on Friday because The Box food truck was there. Mm :) Anyway, check it out. It's tucked away, but definitely a great spot!

Amazing beers great patio for warm Seattle nights plus they let you bring in your own food or have it delivered

Solid beer, great staff and good food trucks. This place is also a good member of the community and supports derby days! If the brewery had their own menu and better parking I would give them a 5 star review. This is a good stop during an evening ride or for after work get togethers.

I loved the atmosphere here at Black Raven! They have a great set up, lots of cool places to sit! We sat at the bar so we could learn about the beers, and have a few testers before we ordered a beer. They have a menu called "Rare Birds" which is select few that they don't brew a lot of, and there is only a limited supply. My husbands favorite beer here happens to be a Rare Bird, which means he can not get his growler filled. That upsets him, because he LOVES it. The one he likes is mixed with a cognac. The alc% is high and they limit you to 2 of them in house. I got the scotch ale. It was really good. Its got 6.9% alc content and got me quite tipsy off 1 beer! (Not that its too hard, I am 4'11"!) No food, was not a problem for me. I've noticed that most breweries do NOT offer food, so it is not just Black Raven! If this place wasn't so far from home, my husband and I would visit more frequently!

Hands down my favorite brewery on the eastside! This place is tucked away in an industrial complex but I guess the fans have no problem finding it and it is always quite crowded. The setting is very cozy and is perfect for a happy hour gathering with a bunch co-workers/friends (although they don't have a happy hour :)). Can never go wrong with their IPA, but they also always have something interesting on tap. Whenever I can, I bring the growler to fill up after a couple pints. Even when I'm dining in other local restaurant I always go for the black raven tap whenever it is available. They don't have food, but there is usually a food truck/stand outside, or you can order food from togo menus. They do have nuts to go with the beer.

It'd been a while since I found myself in the Pacific Northwest, and I was delighted to find that the more things change, the more they stay the same. That is to say, there are a ton more breweries around than the last time I was in Seattle, but they've all maintained that quality I've come to associate with the Emerald City. My first stop on my return visit was a place that had just unfolded its wings when I left for Michigan, a place called Black Raven Brewing Company. Technically it's not in Seattle; it's across Lake Washington in Redmond. And it doesn't serve food, which is part of the reason I never made it out when it was first starting off. That was a mistake. The beers here are quite impressive. The constant lineup is solid, with the best offerings coming in the form of IPA, Stout and a Strong Scotch Ale. The one disappointment was a brown ale that I found thin and slightly metallic in the finish. Outside of these regulars comes a fantastic barrel aging program that had produced three outstanding beers when I visited. The first was a bourbon stout that was lighter on the bourbon than most others I've had. The second was a dry blonde ale that tasted almost like champagne, with a rich depth of flavors that lingered on the tongue. The last was a version of their Scotch ale that had been aged in wine barrels. It created quite a unique combination of flavors, which I found both extremely interesting and extremely delicious. The drawbacks of the establishment are its size and the fact that it doesn't serve food. It's rather small, and finding a seat or table or anything to set your glass down on can be challenging. But given that issue, it's a pretty clean and warm environment, though nothing special. As for the food issue, they do have pizza menus for a nearby company that will deliver straight to your table. And it's fantastic. So I guess the food really isn't an issue. As for the service, it also is pretty stellar. Though you have to go to the counter to order, rather than make you wait if there's a backup in pouring, they'll deliver to your table and give you a detailed overview of each style. When it calms down a bit, someone will check in on you now and then and offer more libations. Overall, I rather liked the place and would be back many times if I lived in the area.

Great beers, best in Seattle area tried so far. I like the brewpub layout as well, with cabin-like furniture, several rooms, couches, two bars. Bit out of the way for Seattle tourists without a car, but still worth Ubering for beer enthusiasts. No food, but rotating food trucks and delivery menu's available (we got a Hawaiian pizza). My favorite was their regular Trickster IPA, perfectly balanced, complex, and very drinkable.

  • Amanda M.

Haven't had a beer here yet that I didn't love! The Trickster IPA in particular is a favorite - so smooth and drinkable, accessible even for this IPA-wuss! Totem Northwest Pale is also excellent. And it doesn't get more refreshing on a hot summer day than a pint of the Sunthief Kristallweizen. This place is usually hopping on a weekday afternoon with the Redmond work crowd. They have a nice patio in the summer, but it fills up fast. Pretzels and CB's peanuts are the only food options in-house, but there is usually a food truck serving up grub from the parking lot (Seattle dogs on the evening we were there!). You can also order food from several other nearby places (including Zeek's pizza, which delivers to the brewery).

Great beer, horrible service. About 8-10 of us came in here on a Friday afternoon. It took about 15 minutes (even standing at the bar) to get someone to so much as look at us. After that, service was a TINY bit better. I got the feeling that 'Black Raven' means 'regulars only' in some language. I had myself two of the Godfather stouts, which is a Russian Imperial Stout and very high proof. It didn't have a strong liquor flavor, like most Imperials do, so I have to give them credit for doing that well. Other than that, it was pretty basic (not a bad thing) and pretty fresh. Had the staff been a little more helpful, it would have been better. This place gets crowded quickly. It was at about 20% capacity when we arrived and about 110% when we left a couple hours later.

Love this place. They really know how to make some tasty brew holding nothing back. They also always have something interesting on tap. Yesterday I tasted the coconut porter which is something I have never tried before anywhere. It was pretty darn delicious. I took a star away because they don't have enough parking. Also bittersweet I suppose, as this is testament to the popularity of Black Raven. There is a lot of industry and business in the area, in fact they are in an industrial complex. A sweet spot for people wanting to pop in after (or during) work for a quick pint or two.

Ok so I'm getting on a roll to endorse all the places that really standout. Black Raven stands out by quite a bit and in a very good way. It's not just me but all my friends that are quite taken by the Sun Thief. This isn't your typical pub and the seating arrangements do seem a bit odd on the first visit. Easy to get used to till the next time you have to find your friends. Seems like bit of a maze then. On to the beer and the very tasty peanuts. The Sun Thief has been my favorite but almost everything I've tried off the Menu has been just great. The Trickster and Totem Pale Ale give strong competition to the Sun Thief and give you plenty of opportunity to mess up the place with the peanut shells. Can't wait for my next visit!

Great tap room to try some delicious beer with friends. They seem to always have a unique cask on tap. Bring takeout food or have it delivered as they don't have a kitchen. We used to fill-up our growlers, but then graduated to their kegs. They have the most friendly and helpful staff.

Wow the beers here are great! It is a very casual, seat yourself atmosphere. Your are welcome to bring in your own food. The brewery sells peanuts to snack on and they have a couple delivery menus on the tables for pizza or sandwiches. When we went there was a hot dog truck outside as well. If you can't decide on a beer, get the sampler! They have a seasonal barley wine that is delicious. They have a couple darker beers that were unusual and tasty as well, and I'm not usually a dark beer person. Can't wait to come back!

  • Armen S.

Just great beer and friendly, knowledgeable staff. My favorite is the Scotch Ale, but also love Le Petit Mort when it's available. You can bring in your own food, order from the food truck outside, or order delivery from the many establishments that leave menus on the tables. Ask for free pretzels, or buy a bag of peanuts.

Black Raven Brewing is a cool, sleek little brewery located in an industrial area in Redmond. Parking can be a little tricky even though it looks like plenty of spaces to park. Pay attention to the signs for where brewery parking is accepted otherwise your car can get towed. Black Raven, as the name implies has little hints of Edgar Allen Poe everywhere which makes the place unique. The tasting room is large and there is plenty of seating, even on a weekend. We did not know what to get so we got a taster flight of everything on tap. I know it is not terribly helpful but I did not have a favorite beer because it was all so good! If I had to I would pick their IPA, pale ale and porter that they had on tap at the time. What I do recommend if you get a pint or better yet a taster set to start out with is make sure to get their limited release brews. They are not around very long and they are unique and flavorful! Black Raven is indeed a worthy stop if you are in the 'burb of Redmond!

(3.5 stars) The industrial park location is a bit out of the way for stumbling across, but if you do, you'll not regret the pint or two you get. Well crafted beers served by enthusiastic staff that have no problems telling you all you ever wanted to know about each brew. Little on the pricey side per-pint, and like many other places, growlers aren't a great deal either. No food, however, which means that if you want to knock back more than a few pints, be warned that the brews tend to range higher in the alcohol content than other beers, and that free bowl of pretzels isn't going to really help much. They will though be happy to point you to the stack of to-go menus you can order from for in-bar delivery.

How to tell if a Girl really likes you - 10 Signs to know that She is Interested: She likes talking and spending time with you She introduces you to her friends and family She touches you often She mimics you in your actions She gets jealous when she sees you with other girls She laughs at your jokes She "accidentally" runs into you often She is conscious of her looks when you are around She is comfortable with you She talks of a future together These all just described how my boyfriend feels about Black Raven Brewing. This is one of the nicest breweries I've been to that doesn't serve food. The place is larger than I expected. I had the sampler which is not only the regular on tap brews but also all the seasonal! So, it was 10 3oz samples total. I prefer darker beers brown ales and onwards so I won't comment on the IPA and ESB. The saison however is pretty good. All of the dark beers were very smooth and without the sharp aftertaste you sometimes get. You can bring in food from outside and I hear the pizza place nearby will deliver to your table!

Great beer and great service. Would be great if there was more outside seating and more food trucks. The food trucks rotate each day and there are at least 4 places that deliver food. On a good normal sunny summer day it is hard to find seating and parking and parking in that area can be confusing. I tend to park across the street. For the price i am able to get 4 beers for under $15. They do offer pretzels for free but peanuts will cost you a few bucks. As for the seating there are about 6 tables outside and seating inside the tasting room that seems to ever be expanding. inside it seems it can seat around 100 people but it does not ever seem noisy.

If all of their beers were as good as Wisdom Seeker this would be a 5 star review. Seeker blows every other DIPA away, including the one from California that we can't get in WA any longer. Their other beers were good, but I wouldn't pay the toll both directions on the 520 bridge on a regular basis for them. Living in Seattle there are plenty of places on this side of the bridge that I feel are better for pales, stouts, browns, and IPA's. So this is probably more of a 3-1/2 star review. But keep that Wisdom Seeker flowing, I'll get that every chance I can. The tasting room itself is very comfortable and a great place to sample a few beers, maybe grab a bite from a food truck outside.

Black Raven is a great, I love their Sunthief Kristallweizen...It's my absolute favorite. I have taken out of town friends here and they enjoy it as much as I do. It's a great place to sit, enjoy a beer and relax. They don't offer food, but they do offer menus for surrounding delivery options. If I didn't have a barley sensitivity I would probably be here more often. If you haven't tried them you certainly should.

Great beer for Reasonable prices. Crowded atmosphere. Extremely clean, well-kept brewery. Love sitting on the patio after a day of golf at Willows Run or when dropping my boat off at O'Ryan Marine in Redmond. Wish they served food here!!! A little far out there, wish they were closer to downtown Redmond.

They have amazing beers, the atmosphere is casual and fun. Great for an after work meeting, or catching up with some friends. They do not serve food accept for lite snacks; Peanuts, and pretzels. However, they do have a lot of menus for local delivery businesses. Pretty awesome concept. My favorite is the scotch ale

Black Raven is one awesome place. Pretty easy to find, it's nestled into a very suburban, unassuming office park type place. But go in, and you instantly forget that. The place is wall-to-wall gorgeous woods and raven-themed art. It doesn't have food, but places will deliver and is can bring stuff. Like a true 'public house'. We did a sampler and really enjoyed everything we tasted. The staff was very friendly and answered all of our questions. We left with a growler of the Tamerlane Brown that was gone too soon. We'll definitely visit again.

This is one of my favorite beer spots in all the land. The saison is one of my fav beers of all time. Try one of the rare birds when you are there and if you are lucky they will have it in a to go bottle or growler as you'll want more to take home. It doesn't offer much for food so that keeps the 5th star from this place but the beer is great. I also like Hi-Fi brewery down the street and usually visit both of these places in tandem.

Brewery around the corner from my place of employment? Yes please! A little difficult to find on the first try but you won't forget how to get back! Unless perhaps you have one too many of their "Trickster" IPA's! This place is legit. Small, cozy, and too the point. Good beers. I've spent many an afternoon meeting coworkers and friends here for a sip or two and I have yet to find a beer that isn't stellar. I even waited a whole year after rumor of a seasonal killer IPA called "Wisdom Seeker". It was more than worthy of seeking and I'm already counting down the days for next year! I also admire the quick and courteous customer service. The other day I came in to grab an "apology growler" for my man (Note ladies- When in the dog house a great jug of microbrew is almost always a get out of jail free card!) and their cash register is down. I offered to wait and my reward what a schooner of my choice. Nothing better than having to stick around a bit longer and enjoy a great beverage! Peanuts and beer are one of my guiltiest pleasures, and possibly the only reason I got to sporting events, and I love that they offer this combination. The mini pretzels are free too but I'd rather have a legume any day! I will be back. Again, and again, and again!

Great space, delicious beer, and friendly service! Do I really need anything else from a joint that specializes in beer? Not really!! I had never been there before and enjoy variety, so I decided to go with the $6 "Flight of the Raven" and get a chance to try six of their beers. I probably enjoyed the hefeweizen the most, but I finished all of the samples and enjoyed each one at least a little. The back room is a great spot for a beer-filled party that you don't have to clean up yourself! The near-by Flying Saucer Pizza has partnered with Black Raven (meaning: BR has their menu on the tables, FSP delivers there for free) so there is food available there. I didn't try any of their pizza, but the friends that ordered some seemed to enjoy it... and EVERYONE enjoyed some of the rather special pizza names on that menu. Bonus points for the waitress because she was great about asking people for their cards so she could start separate tabs right away! Made it super easy to pay for everything at the end.

If there's a better way to highlight the uniquely creative perfection of these libations shining in blonde, toffee, and deep caramel hues than by sipping them while tucked into an utterly bland and ubiquitous office park, I don't know what it is. In its way, this is a perfect encapsulation of what is just about the most perfect brewery in the Seattle area. No flash, no extra enticements, no dressed-up-with-a-menu place is this; rather, it's simple, unadorned, and all about the beer. Want food? Bring it in, or order from nearby Flying Saucer Pizza and get it delivered to your table. I've loved and hunted down Black Raven brews since they first opened, and although I've had their pints all around town (I get around when a drink's at stake!) this was my first visit to the source itself. One of the lovely things about Black Raven is the variety. You like the Trickster IPA? You'd better. But you might like with the special additions they brew now and again, a little Trickster fraternal twin that tastes just a bit different. You like German wheat beers? Kristallweizen had my wheat-beer-hating man nodding in approval, with its more subtle and smooth (very filtered) interpretation of a hefeweizen. You like a Scotch ale? I usually don't, but I loved Second Sight. And that's not even half of what we sampled and went on to drink to greater depth. That doesn't even begin to encompass some of my festival favorites over the years, from Old Birdbrain (when that's around, I'm in line at least twice) to Wisdom Seeker to La Petite Mort. Once in a while these specials show up on tap at the brewery (or nearby Malt & Vine), so be on the email list and stay in the know. I could spend forever chatting with the staff and picking their helpful brains....Nothing like bonding with strangers over a common love. We're lucky in Seattle to have a plethora of good breweries in the area...and we're even luckier to have some truly great ones, like Black Raven. It's worth whatever crowds or drive times you need to battle in order to taste here (but I'll say it was fairly quiet on a Saturday early afternoon). See you around....

Visiting this awesome brewery in one of my old 'hoods was the perfect start to my Friday and my long vacation in the PACNW. We arrived right at noon as they were opening. We sat at the bar for a few hours, and had meant to possibly venture to another brewery nearby, but decided to stay because we were all enjoying ourselves, our beer, the great choices in music and the conversations with the waitress/server and other patrons too much to leave. I ordered the sampler tray and was happy to get to pick what I wanted from their chalkboard menu and skip the beers I didn't want to try. We were even given some free samples of their firkin, a tasty barrel-aged Belgian, while waiting for our first beers. I loved their porter (this was absolutely my favorite), stout and wet hopped varieties the most. I even liked their IPA, Trickster, which was made even more delicious when mixed with the fresh-tasting but milder and much less hoppy Wet Hop to make "Wet Trick" - thanks to the waitress for that :) Growlers and refills were inexpensive and they also sold insulated backpack-type holders for growlers as well (I've never seen this in beer-and-outdoor-loving Colorado!) and what looked like a carseat that will hold three growlers in your car. Like a bumbo for beer! I bought two pint glasses for $5, quite a deal. The taproom is large, rustic and gorgeous with plentiful indoor (both big and small tables and split up into multiple rooms/areas too) and outdoor seating as well as a lovely bar with big, comfy wooden chairs. You can order food or bring it in, and when our neighbor at the bar ordered some Zeek's pizza, another one of my former local favorites, I was extremely sad that I was still stuffed from my late breakfast/early lunch at Sarducci's. I would totally be a regular here if I still lived in the area. I will admit that Black Raven made my trip to Redhook the next day just a little bit underwhelming. Bravo BRB!

Biked in to Black Raven; first impression: pleasant chaos! Crowded, yet with every one there seeming to be happy and pleasant. Hmm...if they can have this many people packed into here, and they are still all displaying happy demeanors, they must be doing something right! The beer: this is now in my top three local breweries: #1 Diamond Knot; #2 Black Raven; #3 Skagit River. These guys have an unheard of ELEVEN of their own beers on tap, as well as rotating, seasonal, and special guest beers. Their beers are UNIVERSALLY (I only tried 11) true to style; served properly aged NOT green; and, indicative of a flair for intuitive and inventive personal touches that makes them unique and flavorful, yet still within the parameters of the style of the individual brew. Major kudos to their brewmaster, and their staff for keeping both the beer and the customers flowing and foaming happily! IF YOU HAVE NOT BEEN HER, GO NOW!! It will keep you coming back. Food delivered from off-site; good variety, quality, and selection. One thing that could be improved: BIKE PARKING! There is one tiny rack a football field away, where you cannot even watch your bike. I locked ours to the tree out front!

This one of my favorite local breweries, but with a caveat. I live now where close to the place. So when I do have a chance to go to the tap room I savor it. Black Raven has amazing beers with many styles to fit any ones palette. One cool thing is with a tap room that does not have food they allow to bring your own food or order from any of the local establishments that deliver. Sometimes they even have food trucks on site. Check them out on FB or twitter to find out whats happening.
