Grape slushies!! OMG!!! Burgers? Meh.... I couldn't believe we took an added detour from a Maple Valley Craigslist pick up, to head here, granted it was my idea... The line up was only 15 minutes for a stall, the drive through was backed up something serious. After being brain washed by all the TV ads, we just had to hit this place up. Granted my son had eaten at a Sonic in Idaho last summer, he raved about the place, so I was kind of expecting a lot more. The menu is pretty darn cheap, the burger selection is limited, beef or chicken with a hot dog tossed in for good measure. Food-wise, meh, the burgers came out kind of soggy, they are packaged in a foil wrapper and tossed into a paper bag, then the entire thing is delivered via roller-skate hop, it's a cute idea, and the staff were very nice. I luved the fact you ordered via a talking box, the box also allows for Debit or Credit cards. Cash is collected via the same roller-skate hop person. It just reminded me of a visit long ago to an A&W in Baker OR, that my family and I have hit up in the early 80's, the box with a phone to place your order, granted that food was a lot better... Themed much like a 50's-ish style drive in, but a bit more amp'ed up for today's youth. If they build it, they will come....

We first went there about a month after it first opened. There were a alot of cars waiting in the staging area, but we only waited about 10-15 minutes for a stall. The major lineup was all for the drive-thru. Our order was taken promptly, and it wasn't long before our food was brought out to us by a cheerful carhop. Everything was just as we ordered it. Everything on the menu is VERY reasonably priced. The drinks are delicious, the food is tasty and the dessert items are yummy! Worth the drive from Federal Way every time. Never waited longer than 15 minutes for a stall, our order has always been correct and the service is with a smile.

My choice of food here (only what I come here for) is the chilly and cheese hush puppies and coney dog! Hella good and great place to be bad at! Shakes are wonderful and the raspberry lemonade is amazing too! This is a NO diet place, a place to spoil yourself every so often. Lol

I rarely write hateful reviews. But here I go. I hate Sonic. I hate Sonic for the following reasons: 1) When you pull in off the main road, you are confronted with an obnoxious sign that says "Staging Area 30-Minute Wait". Give me a break. This is a crappy fast food joint that happens to be a novel thing in the Puget Sound area. It is not a destination spot. 2) If you're the type of person who, like everyone else, appreciates Sonic's Cherry Limeaid but doesn't think Sonic is or should be a destination spot, and you try to park over by the bank so you can walk up and place your order, prepare yourself for the dumbest set-up ever. Sonic is 100 percent reliant on drive-though style speakers - even if you try to walk up and place your order - that are situated in opposing fashion so that people are standing there screaming into each other's faces to place their orders. And, because the order takers don't have a hard enough time hearing what the order givers are saying because the order givers are screaming into each other's faces, Sonic has decided that it's a good idea to have ambient music piping out through some other crappy speakers. 3) You can try and order whatever you want. They will get your order wrong. And, if that diet Cherry Limeaid seems too awesome to be diet? Guess what? It's not. 4) Yes, yes, yes. The Cherry Limeaid is amazing. But you can make it yourself at home with any one of the million knock-off recipes out there. The food, however, sucks. The food sucks. Let me repeat what I am saying. The food SUCKS. It sucks. The burgers look like they've been stepped on, the fries are soggy, everything is lukewarm. If I had to pick just one burger place to go in the Puget Sound area, for an amazing caloric splurge that is worth every dollar spent on gas, I'd go to Red Mill Burgers (dubbed one of the top 20 burgers you must eat before you die by both Oprah Winfrey and GQ Magazine). A close second, which would save you a ton of money in gas, is Friesenburger's on 308 E. 26th St. in Tacoma, Washington. (but be prepared to spend all day at the gym the next day frantically trying to work off "The Friesenburger"). 5) The roller skating thing is absurd. It slows an already slow process down eeeeeven more, because the servers have to gingerly weave through hoardes of huge distended bellies to get to you.

Although we were pressed for time, I insisted to make a stop because I absolutely had to try the Holy guacamole hot dog. The bun was nice and soft, fresh. The dog was at a perfect temp., not so hot as to burn your palate. The sauce was sooooo good. I mopped up all the spills with my fingers since wifey and #2 had already finished the chicken strips. Strawberry and lemonberry slushes were great as usual (no Malolo syrup here). Carhop service was quick and courteous. If ever on the continent, this is a must, the other being In..N....ut. Somebody buy a franchise and bring a location to Honolulu!

What a fun little spot. It is great to have the servers arrive on roller-skates. Though, it's not as reminiscent of what I imagine a 50's diner to be. But it doesn't distract from the change from the norm that has become fast food. In my opinion, this departure from the norm is what makes Sonic special. I suggest trying the cheese burger served on toast. Don't forget to tip the server. This is not your typical fast food.

we stopped in a few days ago and figured we'd try something different. I've had Sonics years but my husband never has... we orderd a crispy chicken combo and a chicken strip basket. on both the chicken was VERY bland. we had to reorder the gravy for the chicken strip basket because they had forgotten it. after a few minutes we hit the button again to see what the hold up is on the gravy... we were told that they had to make some.. ok, no big deal it happens. after about another 10 minutes we call again and gues what... it's still being made... 5 minutes later we finally get the gravy so that i can eat my chicken... well, shoulda not waited because the gravy AND chicken were bland.. needless to say, we won't be goin back there for food... maybe a shake or something but not for the tasteless food.

My dad and I drive past Sonic on the way to and from our fishing spot. Drawn in by all those alluring commercials, we decided to try it out. I would only come here again if if I was super hungry and there was nothing else to eat. We ordered the cheeseburger on toast, onion rings and a cherry limeade. The cheeseburger was okay, my dad was happy with the amount of bacon in it. The onion rings were bland and not so exciting. The cherry limeade was so so so sugary! I did like the rollerskating service - it was quick and fun to watch! I didn't like eating in the car - I had a mishap opening a bottle of water, which resulted in damp pants for the duration of the ride home.

We've been waiting for the crowds to die down so we could find out what everyone was talking about. First of all it's pretty fun to drive up and watch the folks roller skating but that was the best part. Our speaker didn't work properly so they had to come out and take our order which arrived promptly and everything was cold, including the french fries. We should have called the folks and sent it back but we didn't. Our grand kids will think it's fun but we probably won't go back.

Good,...not spectacular, just good. When they first opened they were much better. Now they seemed to have settled into a low level of midiocreness. If you are used to sonic in las vegas, or tennesee,..I can say from experience,..southern sonics are far better. This one,..all the food kind of tastes the same. Fries taste like the chicken nuggets,..burgers taste like the coney dogs. Everything just has an okay-ish flavor, but no one thing is really good. In summary I usually hit another fast food joint instead.

I'm from Alabama, so Sonic was a fast food staple for me growing up. They're abundant in the South, even in the smallest towns. I'm sure you could imagine my reaction when my husband and I passed this Sonic on the way to Mt. Rainier. He thought I was "pointing to a dead body on the side of the road". I told him we had to stop there on our way back. We we came back the place was pretty packed, we had to circle around twice before we found a stall. Once we hit the button to order we waited... and waited. I went to one of the walk up stations and it was broken. Then went to another and waited in line. After the woman in front of me ordered she said it took them 5 minutes to answer her call. At this point I just walked back to the car because I figured it had been at least 5 minutes since my husband hit the button. Sure enough someone came on the line while I was at the other station and my husband told them nevermind. At this point I was ready to leave, I love Sonic but I didn't think it was worth this kind of wait. We stuck it out and finally ordered cheesy tots, cheddar peppers and some limeade. It definitely brought me back home and satisfied our snack craving. The Route 44 limeade is still sitting in my fridge. Even though we had a bit of a tough time ordering, everyone we came into contact with was super friendly and apologized for the wait. They were slammed and I know you can only work so quickly. I'd hit it up again if it wasn't as busy. I also learned that this day was the last day of the fair so I'm sure that had something to do with the wait.

The commercials are better than the food. I will say they have some pretty good shakes, but I recommend that whatever shake you get add more of whatever goodness you are getting. I really wanted to avoid going here due to trendiness but I couldn't help it...I'm sucha sucker. The burger was pretty middle of the road. Fries were decent. Shake was great, and the popcorn chicken is good. If for some reason you want to eat at a drive through and see a pre-pubescent kid bring your food to you with skates on than this is your place.

Sonic, I have enjoyed your commercials for years, the conversations in the car and the pictures of your slushy drinks, SO when I heard that Sonic was coming to town I had to go on a State-cation from the East side to Pullyallup. After the drive I almost went through the wrong entrance. Did the U-turn and saw a sign for the wait for the line...Like I was at a amusement park...Which would be a great metaphor for Sonics. It draws people in with their catchy commercials and when you go to sonic you have to wait for an hour , No managers to speak of and most of the employees are misinformed, unorganized and dragged their feet to serve and was more of a headache then being fun. I got put in the wrong line because of lack of communication between employees including managers. I waited an hour to go through the drive through and end up doing the drive in..I pressed the help button in my strall and spend another 15 mins waiting for a employee to get my order. I know it's brand new but it's beyond slow. I got a cherry lime aid and a snicker milk shake. I got my two drinks..The snickers were ok even though it tasted like pure sugar and whip cream and my cherry slushy lime aid was good but not worth the trip. I don't want to crap on someones job but I will give constructive criticism. If Sonics dose not have a floor manager they really need one...That has years of experience of managing a large team with excellent organization and communication skills and to hype up their servers to put a spring in their step to get the orders out fast and efficiently, I am sure with the economy I am sure you can find a skilled manager that will be happy to join your team but Too many employees that are hanging out waiting for direction. Lime Ads are OK but Sonic needs to polish up;even if it's brand new.

Cherry Muther Frickin Lime Aid! What more do you need to say. Now they have a Sonic in Puyallup, I am definately going back, probably tonight to try the grilled cheese on texas toast. I know you have all been watching the commercials for the past several years just salivating at the opportunity for some tasty Sonic goodness. Well I satisfied that craving yesterday and was sooooo happy I did, come check out Western WA's newest Sonic, you wont be disappointed!

Love sonic's food. So glad they finally came to Washington. The wait is out of control but I felt well worth it. I had it when I was in Oregon and couldn't wait to get a local one. Love the whole rollerskaters to the cars. I love their food and will go back again and again

It is about the Cherry Limeaide y'all! Oh soo good, with a cherry and 4-5 large chunks of lime, the little mini ice pellets that you come to love. Also had the Sonic Cheeseburger on toast (it had a onion ring and bacon as well), It was a major yum fest, OH and the chili cheese tots were the bomb as well. Lines/wait was of course long (70-80) minutes, but it was worth it. Oh and I agree with Nancy on how well organized the 'staging' area was, well mannered and orderly.

My two younger sisters live in Seattle and they shared that they wanted to try Sonic...they wanted to see what the deal was about this place. Instead of going through the drive thru, we did the drive in parking. It was our first time doing this and we were just a little unclear on what we needed to do. Unless you are on the driver side, it is very difficult to see the menu without looking like you're doing something inappropriate. My husband had a double cheeseburger meal with fries and a grape slushes. He was satisfied with this meal. I had a regular cheeseburger (sans mayo) with onion rings and a cherry slushes. It was ok as far as burgers go -- not friggin awesome but tasty. I did enjoy my slush beverage. One of my sisters had a grilled chicken sandwich with onion rings and an old fashioned root beer float -- she said it was good but nothing to rave about. My vegetarian sister ordered mozzarella sticks, onion rings, and a salad without the meat. Her salad looked NASTY. There were brown bits ALL over the lettuce. She enjoyed her onion rings and mozzarella sticks but she was still hungry because her salad looked old. I can't believe that they would send out a salad looking like that to a customer. We had to make a pit spot somewhere else so that she could get some food. Price was about $37 (including tip) -- not terribly bad for four people. There was no clear sign to tell you where you return the orange tray thingie so my husband went inside only to realize it is one huge kitchen. They kind of stared at him like "what the hell ya doin' buddy?" Have a sign and we'll put it back where you want it goober. I'd go back for the slushes and I did like their onion rings. When you took a bite, the whole onion didn't come out...that was nice. Not woo woo but ok.

I want to give it three stars, but I won't. Very SLOW service for mediocre food. Me and my girlfriend drive by this at least twice a day since we live near by and have always wanted to swing in, but it's always busy. Well, thought we could squeeze in the drive-thru line and get out quick. That was not the case and I don't think it was because of the people in front of us. We had two cars in front of us and we were probably in that drive-thru for 15+ minutes. We ordered two of the butterfinger shake things. Basically a blizzard and then two orders of fries. Got one shake with a tablespoon size of shake on the side, which the lady cleaned up after my girlfriend showed her. The fries were okay, not too hot or cold. Basic french fries really. The "blizzards" were, well, blizzards with whip cream on top. Nothing special here and I think they're a little more spendy than a blizzard. It was well mixed which I appreciate. Anyways, not all it's cracked up to be, I'll probably give it another go, but not rushing back for this place...

I personally don't get it. And by "it" I mean the hype. I mean, the burgers are ok but there is always better, especially in Puyallup (see herfys or Don's drive in). Their onion rings have a weird cinnamon and sweet taste... I no likey.... Anyway, there is a bright spot... I love their coney dogs!

This is a really, really mediocre place. I'd say that it's about a notch above McDonald's in terms of the quality of the food, but the taste is just not that great. They do try to give you cool drive-in service, but Burgermaster beats this place in all categories. However, one big plus is that it is really, really well-priced. Almost as cheap as McDonald's. Also, the employees are really helpful and seem to be largely on top of things. There are plenty of other places around this area that I'd recommend more: Panda Express, Wendy's, or if you're adventurous, one of the local eateries around there. They try to be the all-American fast-food chain, but quite a few other places beat them by miles.

Had great expectations for the "drive in" experience and good food. What an embarrassing experience. Car hop who could give a crap. Being food out on a damn bag .. Tell me to pay using a box out my window. Had a pseudo Chicago dog. What a piece of soggy crap. Microwaved I am sure. I am ashamed of myself for going. DRIVE- IN? DRIVE BY!! Hyped.. Nothing more.

For years I have seen the commercials and listen to our friends from Texas rant about Sonic. So I was excited to say the least when they came to the Puget Sound area. I waited for the initial rush to die down before I headed to the Puyallup Sonic Drive Inn. I have actually been 3 times before I decided to write this review. Each time I have been it has been midweek and not during the normal lunch hours usually after 2:00pm or around 11:00am. I have always walked up to the speaker and ordered rather then eat in my car even though there were plenty of stalls available. My order was taken promptly each time and the food arrived quickly. The last time I went there was a construction worker fixing the canopy from a ladder near the walk up station which was mildly annoying to maneuver around. But he was doing his best not disrupt anything which I can understand. The carhops have all ways been friendly and helpful. And for fast food the meal is much better then I expected. I ordered the Super Sonic Cheese Burger, Onion Rings and a Cherry Limeade all three times and was very satisfied. Though I do need to try some other things they have on there menu next time I go. My 4 year old daughter really enjoys there kids meals. Over all I like Sonic and would like to see one in the Olympia area soon. I diffidently prefer them over any other fast food chain.

I remember Sonic from Texas and it was really good. This Sonic is bland. The burger was blah, the onion rings were blah. The chocolate shake didn't ring any chocolate bells. The layout of this drive-in is incredibly weird. The drive-through line hugs the building so the servers have to cross not only the line of drive through traffic, but all the drive in spots were facing away from the building, so they had to cross that line of traffic as well. Strange and dangerous, don't you think? Also, the drive-in spots are so narrow the server can't come to your window (Ford Explorer.) You don't get to hang a tray on the window, so you have to juggle everything inside the cab. And the very worse thing is the location on Meridian. That's the worst street I've been on in the Puget Sound area - volumes of traffic. Disappointing all the way around, I'd say. This place can't hold a candle to Burgermaster.

4:15pm visit today, and not impressed! Stalls are much more narrow than other locations (truck owners, beware!). Credit card machine was broken, so carhop had to disappear with my card (which makes me uncomfortable). Service was moderately slow, but borderline acceptable. Fries were COLD upon arrival. Order was repeated back to me (and corrected) 3 times during the ordering process. When we received the order, it was STILL wrong. Sent 2 Jr Doubles back, and it took 12 minutes to get them returned to us. Took a fourth trip from the carhop to bring us the ranch (that we'd requested on the first trip!). Nothing more than a hollow apology and an excuse offered (throw in a free drink coupon, free burger, gift card, an ice cream drink for the kids, SOMETHING! My time is more valuable than this!). Bottom line: NOT a place for decent customer service. I'll be heading elsewhere in the future!

We drove from Auburn to buy a gift certificate as a father's day gift AND I HOPE HE APPRECIATES IT. Wow! We tried to find someone who could just sell us a gift card but were told we needed to order it from the walk up menu. Silly me, I wrongly assumed that there had to be some form of management on duty that could streamline any non-food orders. OK, so here is the short version of my first and last Sonic visit ... We ordered a gift card and one hamburger from the walk up menu on a Thursday night. After 25 minutes of waiting I went back to the walk up menu and tried to verify that my order was indeed in line to be fulfilled. The voice on the other end said that it was "on the way". 10 minutes later I poked my head in the back door and told a management type (dressed in black) that we'd been waiting over 25 minutes and he said he'd look into it. 5 minutes after that brief encounter a gal came out with our order and meekly apologized for the wait. No one is really managing this establishment. Oh, one more thing that troubled me as I waited over 1/2 hour for a simple gift card and hamburger....one of the very few tables located around the front walk up menu boards had at least 6 to 7 young uniformed Sonic employees at any given time sitting, eating, and talking louder that necessary. Some were getting off their shift and some were on a break but none were aware of the many paying customers that could have used an open table. Is there no break area for the employees? This place is tons of hype with no follow-through. If you decide on a visit to the Puyallup Sonic here is my advice: pack your patience, lower your expectations (a lot) and lastly - I wish you good luck.

I was soooo excited when I found out there was a Sonic Drive In here in Western Washington. If you plan on visiting PLEASE do not bother with the drive thru if it seems busy. It took longer to get to the drive thru line than if we had waited for a parking spot to open up if we had just done the car hop thing. It took a good 45 minutes to even get our order and 30 minutes of it was wasted (yes wasted) sitting in line for the drive thru. The food was okay but not great. Nothing you couldn't find at a burger joint down the road. Also I have a HUGE complaint about their drinks. Since I have first seen Sonic commercials I have been craving one of their Limeaide drinks and so I ordered one. A Cherry Limeaide. Turns out its just cherry flavored syrup mixed with Sprite. WTF?!?! All in all it wasn't worth my time or money and it is a little more pricey than going to any other fast food joint. Nothing any more special than McDonalds or Burger King.

Nostalgic Novel But the food doesn't taste extraordinarily better than most mainstream fast food.

How does a cherry slushie have no flavor? I mean come on! I knew I wasn't going to get a great quality product but no flavor? Was a huge bummer. My son got kids chicken, they forgot his fries. I ordered a burger nothing fancy, my husband ordered a Chicago dog and he was pretty satisfied. It's a fun place to bring the kids but without them it's nothing fancy. Friendly staff, little slow, but seems to be a fun place or a special treat for the kids. I can't get over how my cherry slush (two times) tastes like nothing. Maybe I will try another one next time.

Absolutely the worst customer service I've ever had I ordered just one milk shake waited half an hour and still didn't get it we ended up just leaving wouldn't recommend unless you have an hour to wait for mediocre food. Absolutely terrible.

Didn't have high expectations for this place even though I heard people raving over their food. The low ratings on here is for good reasons. It's a drive in where you eat directly in your car. Only two stars given for my MISSING lettuce and tomato that was suppose to be on my cheeseburger like what the picture had on the menu... Smh. Poorly made and I regret not complaining and getting a refund. The only thing I liked were the tots and the ice cream shake even though it was extremely thick and they didn't even provide a spoon to scoop some of it. I would never drive this far for some fast food when I could get a better taste and quality somewhere closer. I found it pretty expensive too. Two meals that came with shakes for over $20?! And it was happy hour which meant 50% off shakes. Still pricy. Even dick's burger tastes better AND it's way cheaper.

  • Patricia D.

We love this place, especially during happy hour. Make sure you get s Dirty Diet Coke, a wonderful drink with lime & coconut. Or if you're wanting only 40 calories get a low calorie Cherry Limeade! Serious, a route 44 drink that's yummy for 40 calories?! You gotta have one. And for some reason their tater tots are better than other restaurants.

Came here around 9pm with the family. Food was mediocre at best. When we went home, saw that we didn't get any napkins, ketchup, nor any ranch dip for the chicken tenders. Fries weren't anything to rave about either. Most likely will never come again. There's better burgers out there.

  • Kelly B.

Waited 30 minutes for our food, the chicken was cold, and the food made us sick. Won't be back

Terrible service it took 20 minutes to get 2 Cherry limeades. Then they were rude about it.

  • Lou W.

Don't waste your gas driving there on the hottest day of the year. We went just for the new nerds slushes and they were completely out of ice. NO ICE! Talk about a fail on management. No we don't want our drinks with no ice. What a joke.

  • Samantha N.

Service is great and it's so cool to order old school. But the grease from the tots and rings is just really gross. It still gets pretty busy at times

    (3)
  • Richard H.

The Chicken Tenders I had I thought were pretty good, also had the Cheesecake bites they have been advertising as I wanted to try them, they were good and the Strawberry dipping sauce I thought was also good. I went with a Cherry slushy drink, probably should of went with the smoothie instead. Wife went with a hot dog and liked it, and mellow yellow drink. In regards to service, they were fast in getting us the order, girl on her skates and all and was very helpful :) The place is not as busy when it first opened, They have a lot next to them that was a overflow lot, and for the first 4-5 months it was open they had that filled and it was a 2-3 hour wait JUST to be able to order your food! That was insane! (So we waited till it wasnt so insane and just had our first order here after 6 months they were open)

I had never ever been to a Sonic before and having grown up in Hawaii with commercials playing all the time on TV but no Sonics on the islands, this was a place I needed to try at least once in my life! Annndddd I'm over it. They have a ton of selections when it comes to slushies and milkshakes. We tried the paradise punch slush and cookie dough ice cream, along with the cheesy bread hot dog and chili cheese fries. Cheap food and quick but gosh I hadn't eaten fast food in so long that it was just kind of gross. Just wanted to try it once and I wasn't disappointed, I just probably won't be eating fast food again for a long time...

Super slow service! I've sat at the drive thru window for 5-10 minutes before it's ridiculous. Also, they are not very nice here either. If my husband goes they hit on him and are super friendly but when I go they open the drive thru window and just say the amount I owe, don't even say hello or anything. So unfriendly. This sonic is full of bitchy girls.

Went to this location for the first time. Ordered a chocolate shake, a chicken burger and a order of onion rings. Kinda pricy but decent quality. Took almost an hour for the shake to become soft enough to drink though. That was killin me. Near drive in concept haven't bento one Ina very long time.

Ever since I was in high school I've always wanted to visit a Sonic. I've always seen commercials but in Hawaii there aren't any so I was really excited to try it when I moved to Washington. It's about a 40 minute drive from me so of course I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here, especially since after trying it, it's not that great. The customer service is alright. I mean, just like any other fast food place but some of them do cool little tricks on their skates. Am I supposed to tip them for brining my food out?? Hmm. Since it's outdoors there's a lot of litter that apparently no one really cleans up. The food is alright but I feel like it's over priced. I got one of their hot dogs, which was good, but it was barely warm... I've only been here twice. They've never messed up my order but if you're taking the trip to bring my food out, at least don't forget my straws, spoon for my ice cream.. November challenge (11/19/2012)

  • Amanda I.

I've been waiting for my food (a simple 2 piece meal) and it's taken about 10 minutes. There are no other cars in the drive in....

    (3)
  • David C.

As far as service goes this Sonics had it going, great job! Food dished in about 5 minutes! Previous experience with the Tacoma location was horrible and I'm never going to that one again. Our server was very friendly and even on roller skates! The food tasted good but preparation could use some work. The master shakes were near solid (not sure if that's how it's supposed to be), onions inside the onion rings were still semi raw, sticky stuff on sliced apple packaging and outside of wrapper for my Asiago burger was very greasy. If it weren't for the server, the rating would have been 3 stars.

  • Aaron H.

This is my third and worst experience with this Sonic. I'm surprised their average rating isn't lower. I'm thinking there must be three shifts working here and I keep showing up for the bad one. Which makes sense, I'm usually try this place on Friday or Sunday evenings. This time the call of tater-tots was strong. I love those things. My son insisted on the drive thru. The line was long and the wait longer. The first time thru we placed our order and waited about ten to fifteen minutes to get our food. I drove back to my sons place and found out that they hadn't given us my ex-wifes food. Back I go. Second time thru the drive through order taker is not responding for me, or the two cars ahead of me (I found that out cause the other drivers let me know). Waited fifteen minuets to half an hour to get to the window again. Actually turned off the engine for awhile because we weren't going anywhere. When I got the window it took repeated questioning to find out why the drive thru wasn't working, the manager on duty mumbled something about needing to add more headsets. She never once apologized for messing up or order, or for the wait or anything. She did offer my son a free drink but it seemed like very little compensation for ruining my dinner and my evening. I didn't even eat much of my burger, I was upset and as usual the burger was bland. I did get my tater-tots though. I love tater-tots.

This is one of those places where I waiver between a 3 star or 4, and wished they had half stars lol. I was finally able to visit Sonic for the first time this weekend, and even tried it out twice since we were going out camping and we passed it on the way home as well. My first trip consisted of the double bacon cheeseburger (prob called double sonic burger or something, but I can't remember) and tots. I made the mistake of not getting any fun drink, only stuck with bottled water. First impression is the food is pretty good, a little different than the usual fast food staples around here. The tots were a nice treat as well, for sure nice to switch it up from the usual french fries. My second trip was good as well. This time I ordered the texas toast bacon cheeseburger (again I am sure there is a different name for this) with tots and a blue coconut slush..oh yeah and a cheesy pretzel dog kicker on the side lol. The texas toast burger was ok, I think I would enjoy the regular hamburger bun instead of the toast but still the flavors were good. Again the tots were good but this time I really was happy to try out a slush. I think this is where the place really shines, because my wife got a milkshake and that was awesome as well. As for the cheesy bacon pretzel dog...Meh, I have had better imo. But you can't win them all I guess. I don't think I would make a special trip out to Puyallup just to go to here, but if I was in the area then I would probably swing in. One thing to note, is they have a pretty nice system if the drive-thru is taking too long, the servers come out to your car and will give you your food and you can pay so you don't have to wait for the slow drive-thru trouble makers, I thought this was a nice touch..And for this feature, Sonic.. I give you 4 stars lol.

This is not like it used to be! They served us BEYOND COLD fries, and they were just disgusting, and my son got sick off of the popcorn chicken. The serving sizes for the prices are not worth it at all. The food sucks BAD here. The two stars are for the service, and drinks, if you go there, ONLY get a drink, milkshake, slushy, ext, but trust me when I tell you that the food will seriously disappoint, it was yuck, yuck, yuck.

Old school drive in with servers on skates...yes please. Best part is that they have Happy Hour specials...good, because I CANNOT resist the cherry-limeade!

  • Tamara H.

Wow! Could this Sonic suck anymore than it does?! Nope! I would never in a million years think of reviewing a fast food joint, because God knows, you get what you pay for, but Christ on a cracker, could you suck anymore? Being from down South, I am used to a Sonic on every corner. Unfortunately, we are not that lucky in WA. I have been coming here since it opened and it is consistently bad. The food is terrible (although it is pretty much universally bad at every Sonic), but that isn't why I come here. I come for the drinks, and usully it is a hit or miss if they are going to be screwed up. Normally, I come for the sweet tea, and only for the sweet tea (did I mention that the food is bad?!). The only problem is that it never tastes the same. It will usually fall somewhere between nectar of the god's or sugar sludge from the bog of eternal stench! You can tell when tea has been over steeped or just burnt. On occasion you will get chunks of suger when you take a gulp. Someone was in a hurry and pored the cold water in before the sugar was disolved. How do I know so much about swee tea? Because I can make it at my house! Why don't I, you might ask?The ice folks! Sonic has the delicious, and oh so wonderful nugget ice, and for anyone that doesn't have 3K to drop on a nugget ice machine for their home, they are at the mercy of places like Sonic. With that said, I can forgive your bad tea, your terrible food, and even the exorbitant amount of time I have to spend in your drive through (after all, it takes time to squeeze those limes...and finish updating one's Facebook status while you are standing over the warming tray of the tots bin), but one thing that is not forgivable? You being without ice during the hotest two weeks of the damn year! What are you good for Sonic?!?! These poor kids you have working here are as slow as molasses and can't get an order right to save their lives! If I have one more twit on roller skates brings my a drink that has a napkin on top that is soaked with whatever drink I am having I am going to throw it at them! "This is a $60,000 car, don't look at me sidewise because I don't want to paint the inside of it with sugar water!"

    (1)
  • Chris B.

Cherry-limeade please...no thanks, I don't like your food. I want this as a review not just a tip so I'll go on with it. Great meeting place for me and about 17 other riders. Not to far from freeway and ample parking. Oh and great Cherry-limeade.

    (3)
  • Jeanne N.

It's fast food so it's never going to really great, but I probably would have given this Sonic more stars if the customer service had been better. My cherry slush was yummy on a hot day though!

    (2)
  • James A.

The service isn't the best but the food... Soo good. These kids don't mess up often, either.

    (5)
  • Jolene D.

They ruined my childhood memories. They can't fry onion rings properly... The drinks... ummm I'm not sure if all sonics are lacking in quality but this one is terrible.

    (1)
  • Sara T.

The boyfriend and I eat ALL sorts of bad things, even though we are trying to lose weight. What we DON'T eat often is fast food. For some reason, we decided to go to Sonic and I don't think I have EVER been more disappointed with food. This will actually be my FIRST one-star rating. Don't get me wrong, we've been to Sonic in Michigan before and I actually like their food and their shakes. We just did not have a good experience at this particular one - It was bad enough that I will likely never go back. What a waste. Review of purchase: Cheddar Dog on Pretzel Bun (shared) - The only good thing about this? The pretzel bun. The hot dog was mediocre, the bacon was not crispy, the cheese was gross. Burger (shared) - The burger itself was alright. Nothing to write home about, but not horrible. What was horrible was how greasy the darn thing was and made the bread soggy (yuck) and the fact that the bacon wasn't done enough. Mozzarella Sticks (shared) - These were the most disgusting mozzarella sticks I've ever had. They were cold, the cheese was solid, and they were just poor quality. Onion Rings (his) - Other than the fact that they were cold and were poor quality? I don't think there's much more to say. Tater Tots (mine) - This was the biggest disappointment. I LOVE Sonic's tater tots but these ones were not only not crispy, but they weren't done. They were cold, like they had sat under a heat lamp too long, and they didn't let them drain after pulling them out of the fryer for long enough so they were super greasy and gross. Chocolate Shake (his) - Not a very thick shake but pretty chocolatey. This was by far the best part about this meal and it wasn't that great. Peanut Butter Fudge Shake (mine) - The second biggest disappointment. I LOVE Sonic shakes - I was a HUGE fan of the red velvet one they had a few years back - But this was disappointing. I wasn't able to taste much of the fudge and even the peanut butter flavor was only noticeable throughout half of it. Needless to say, when I go to the end of the shake it was because the person likely didn't mix it well enough - On the sides there was fudge, at the bottom there was a glob of peanut butter fudge or whatever they use. Pretty disappointed and I don't usually have very high standards for fast food. This was an absolute waste of money considering we didn't eat everything we ordered.

  • Melissa H.

First of all I would like to say that I'm very disappointed in the quality of the staff member here in the quality of the food. I asked for onion rings with my order instead I got french fries after buzzing and asking them for my onion rings willingly to pay for them.... Waiting here for 20 minutes plus.... I still haven't received my onion rings yet? And also my cheesecake bites I didn't get that either.... There was no napkin to go with our meal... An attitude of the person who deliver our food overall was just shitty. Wish I could give zero stars!!!

I love malted milkshakes but someone please tell them to add salt to the meat before cooking it's important.

    (3)
  • Jon M.

I havent eaten at a Sonic in years so I am not sure if this is the way thy all taste or just this place. BUT the fries left a wierd chemical after taste I couldnt get rid of even after eating my burger. I always ask for light sauce/mayo. They must have thought that meant extra or maybe it was the normal amount, but I obviously didnt get light anything. It was dripping off my burger. Maybe I am getting old, but I cant do greasy chemically tasting food anymore.

    (1)
  • Kayce S.

I would only suggest going here for a drink, milkshakes, slushes and lemonades/limeades are yummy! The service is friendly as well. But the food is the absolute worse. I wouldn't be surprised if it was all frozen and all they do is just heat it up. Each time I've stopped here for a bite (3 times & 3 strikes you're out lol), my food was cold, not even warm! Definitely not appetizing...but I will give them props for their variety in beverages. That's about it.

    (2)
  • Destiny B.

Oh Sonic....what can I say, nothing nice, so I probably should keep my mouth shut...but those that know me, know that never happens! Why does this place have to suck, so bad? I really wanted to love Sonic and all they have to offer, but sadly I do not! Their food is DISGUSTING! And that's putting it nicely, has anyone of their employees ever heard of seasoning salt, or just salt in general? The fries, onion rings and tater tots, all bland while leaving a greasy film coating in your mouth...ewwww! Their beverages teeter on the border of good, but only once have tottered onto the good side. I really can't fathom giving this place another dollar of my money. While that "summer time after 8pm half price shakes," slogan is tempting, I will have to pass!

    (1)
  • Julia M.

always disappointing & the slowest "fast food" drive through I've ever been to. like 10 minute wait at the drive thru window at this puyallup south hill location. the only thing I like about sonic is the 100 slushy drinks to choose from. my favorite is pineapple cream slush...

    (1)
  • Desirae A.

The good was mediocre and the service was....barely there. I live maybe 4 minutes away and my food was a soggy mess by the time I got home. While I was at the window I could see a bag sitting there but of course I thought it couldn't be mine. It was, and it seems they were only waiting for someone to get my drink. I only ordered a cheeseburger meal but I guess it was to much for the easily distracted teenagers chatting it up.

In Texas, Sonic Drive-Ins are at practically every intersection, and the joys of Sonic aren't something one easily forgets just because one now lives nearly 1,700 miles from Texas. In short: Heck yes, I drive to Puyallup from Seattle to get a Sonic fix. It's cheaper than a flight to Texas. There is simply nothing more refreshing on a sunny day than a Sonic cherry limeade. The burgers, tots, and shakes are all great too. If you dine in your car, you will receive friendly service that you wouldn't get at most fast food restaurants. Skating carhops pass by from time to time offering additional napkins, sauces, and soda refills. It is all pleasantly nostalgic even if I am not old enough to remember when drive-ins were common. And while I don't loathe driving to Puyallup (or Tacoma or Bonney Lake) to get my Sonic fix, it's long past time to get a Sonic in Seattle proper.

Every single time me and my boyfriend order slushes during happy hour, they seem to mess it up. We came here and they were AMAZING-only once. Every single other time including today they taste different than the last time. We tried so hard to give them the benefit of the doubt, but today was the last straw. After ordering a simple sounding "peach raspberry slush" it came out awful tasting. We told the lady at the window and she said she would fix it and let us keep the old one which was nice, but the new one they made was basically just crushed ice. No flavor besides a slight bitter taste. Not to mention as the girl was remaking our drink and explaining it to a fellow employee inside and making gestures towards us, the other employee looked at the girl, then at me and my boyfriend and gave us the ultimate bitch face. ....And that was the last time we will ever have sonic. I can live without your horrible slushes and your bitch face employees. Thanks for the "great customer service" sonic.

Service is bad, messed up our order and when they brought the right one they forgot another part of it. Sweet potato tots are good but Wont be going back. This isnt anything i cant somewhere closer thats better. They even took back the item they messed up on... Normally its kind of a "sorry we messed up keep this" thing anywhere else in the world.

My boyfriend and I saw the groupon for sonic, 5$ for 10$, so we decided to give it a try against warnings from our friends. When we pulled up our button had been pressed already, but we weren't ready so we asked for a minute. When we decided we pressed the button and waited 15 minutes for somebody to take our order. When they finally did our server had no idea about the groupon which shows a lack of communication on the part of the management. We waited over half an hour total from when we pressed the button until when we got our food. If you want a meal I suggest a sit down restaurant, it would be just as long a wait but for better food.

NO NO NO. They have messed up my food 5 out of the 6 times ive been here... let me share with you what happend on my 6th and final visit to sonic. The last time ordered some of there 1.00$ menu items my total should have been about 6 or 7 bucks... my husband didnt hear the total and handed them are debit card and then when they gave us the bill it was around $25.00. I let them no it was wrong told them what we Did order, and the person who took our order through the speaker put us down for the meals witch is NOT what we asked for we wanted doller menu stuff you know... not a big meal. So we told them they owed us money back... but they couldnt get it through there heads because they counted the till and said "no the moneys right"... of coarse its going to be right on your computer because whoever put the order in the computer put it as a meal (not what we wanted) and charged my card the amount! so YES THE MONEY IN YOUR TILL WOULD BE RIGHT...BUT YOUR EMPLOYEE WAS WRONG and punched in whatever she felt like. they sent out 4 different car hops to try and RE EXPLAIN why I wasnt getting my money back.... then the 5th comes out and said "its your lucky day here is $5"... I felt like I was in the twilight zone.. SO FINALLY the manager comes out... I re tell him EVERYTHING again... he said "just tell me hour much money I am supposed to give you" he reached in HIS WALLET.... and paid us no "im so sorry for your trouble". mind you this whole ordeal lasted just shy OF 45 MINS OF HELL WITH THESE PEOPLE. I can not ever begin to understand how those stupid people who work there havent set fire to the place yet. I know that sounds harsh and I am a nice person I hate conflict but this was something I couldnt go without saying. SONIC CORP. SHOULD BRING IN 100% New staff. even then I wil never set food near another one of these terrible places,

Let me start by admitting my hubby and I have driven a few times to eat here from Issaquah. Being from the DFW area we always took Sonic's for granted. The chili dogs, chili fries and burgers are one of our top favorite fast food meals. We love the variety of mixed (non-alcoholic) drinks this place offers such as Cherry Limeades, Ocean Water, Vanilla Coke and just about any combination you can imagine. They have a patio but the times we have been here it was too cold to eat outside. We've never had a problem at this location and only wish they would expand and open one closer to our area otherwise we will have to continue to drive to this one whenever the craving for Sonic happens.

Great soft drimks and shakes. Chili - cheese tots are the best. Orders get to your car quickly and car hops were very friendly, even in the 40° weather.

Went to sonic today on 6th ave in Tacoma and had bad experiance with the chaos of it all... But worse it was the worst fast food Lou and I have ever had... And we were crazy hungry... Could have eaten a bag of barf and enjoyed it... I ate bacon cheese toaster ok but we were trying to share and the other was the jalapeño burger we had to throw away... Tots were good We should have gotten one of the fancier bevereges to wash that taste out of my mouth... Will never go back

Having lived in the South I am used to having Sonic just across town. I can't wait for a hot summer day now that the plethora of beverage options are now within reach... smoothies, slushy coffey creamy goodness. The staff was amazing. They are using an empty lot next door for "staging"... what does that mean? There were 40 cars waiting for the drive through and 15 waiting for car hop service when I pulled in. the 5th star is for the efficiency of planning and enthusiasm that everyone had for their job. All of the employees were friendly and happy and bubbly... from the manager passing out samples to the car wranglers keeping the slots filled and David the Drive Through master! Yes, this was the 2nd day and the new restaurant feel will wear off, but they have a great start and with summer coming little chance that boredom will set in. I did not expect a car hop to bring out my Drive Through order, but she was very friendly (did I mention everyone was friendly :-)!) and appeared to enjoy the challenge of balancing orders while rolling along. I had the chicken sandwich on Texas toast. The bread was very soft on the underside and crispy on the outside. The cutlet was covered in a slightly peppery breading and fried (this is Sonic after all) and was covered in a generous pile of diced lettuce and mayo with a juicy slice of tomato. I took the tater tot option and was happy to taste that they were lightly salted and not greasy. My limeade had 3 large sections of fresh lime and was refreshingly tangy.

A step up in fast foot from McDonald's. Not my favorite for fries, but good burgers but let's face it iGo just for the Cherry. Lime aid.

This Sonic gets pretty busy, pretty much every time I drive by there are several people, once last year I was by there and they actually had somebody directing traffic!! If you've never been to a Sonic, check it out. For the rest of us who have been/lived outside of Washington, this is your basic run of the mill Sonic. Try their New York Dog, their drinks are also pretty good. My favorite is the Cherry Limeade. If you've never been to one, there is also a location in Bonney Lake. Check one of them out.
