Just had the Sausage..it was ok. The cornbread is a little different, I didn't enjoy it very much. Looks as though the meats are cooked daily, which I like.

Good atmosphere in this quaint little dive bar. I can't speak to the quality of their food because I have only made it out for live music. That being said, there is something about the room that lends itself to music of all styles and volume. I recommend paying with cash to ensure accuracy with your tab and timely service. This is the case with most dive bars, and definitely holds true here. Haven't had any integrity issues with the staff, but they have no published prices, so it's good to know where you stand for at least the first few rounds. I'm not eager to return for the barbecue, and like the open mic at Rhythm and Rye better. South Bay for the most part does not charge cover, which is an asset for those of us who think the establishment hosting an artist should be the party responsible for taking care of the musicians, not the customers. Kudos to the owners for a consistent, if less than memorable experience.

We had dropped off from coming here as the service and quality had fallen a little. Today we had one of the best meals and service you can get in Olympia. We had chicken, pulled pork, and ribs. We finished it all. The service was also great. They were very attentive to our kids.

we went back and I am glad we did because we have gone back twice since our first ..not so great review ..the food was really good! Everything was well prepared, tasted fresh and flavorful ..not a huge fan of the cornbread but I have found that folks love love love the cornbread I do not care for and no one leave even a crumb of theirs and my husband ate my piece with out a problem so I think it is "me" on the cornbread and I am just not a fan of the stuff...all through the south and southwest whenever folks told me "that cornbread was fantastic" I couldn't get it down .. really good beans wow I could have eaten two bowls but the serving sizes were perfect I WILL go back and just wish they were open Sundays my kids only get to Oly then

If your looking for good barbecue and great service this is the place to go too. The beer selection has a good variety and they also have the hard stuff if you desire. Another plus is that they are family friendly.

I had high hopes after reading other reviews and thought that the prices were reasonable when viewing the menu online. The atmosphere was good and the staff was friendly enough. Our food arrived fast as well. Unfortunately there is nothing good to be said about the food. My Tri tip sandwich had about as much flavor as water. The BBQ sauces were not good and did not help at all. The beans were by far the worst beans I've ever had. My wife and kids had pulled pork sandwiches. Same story, no flavor and very watery. The buns were super soggy and gross. Last but not least, the mac and cheese side was awful. It was greasy and tasted like old jalapeños mixed with left over smoker grease. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

The "Pig Bar" inside the restaurant is awesome on Taco Tuesday's! Get your $1.50 BBQ chicken or pork tacos. Watch for live music in the bar and you got a scene!

The place was empty...But the food was outstanding. Pulled pork with cornbread. BBQ sauces that seemed to be made from the nectar of some bluesy angel...and the beans. Wow. The BBQ beans had huge chunks of bacon I. Them that was delicious. Service was great and the price was fair. They also have an amazing offering of whisky and beer.

When they first opened they were fantastic. Now I'm wondering if they sold it to new owners because I have been twice this year and it was terrible both times. Pork was dry and over cooked not much flavor and 1/4 of the pulled pork was hard and inedible. Corn bread was also over cooked. I won't be going back

  • Krystal K.

Really good barbecue for the price. I got the brisket with cornbread mac-n-cheese and salad. The salad was a decent size side salad with fresh vegetables. The burst was good and wasn't over sauced but my favorite was the corn bread. Best corn bread I have had in a while. Had a nice crust edge but soft and moist on the inside. I couldn't get into the mac-n-cheese. It wasn't bad it was just a very unique style that I couldn't get into. Over all I thought it was really good and would definitely go back.

It seems like the staff does not like working here, they just complained about other co-workers. The bartender makes lousy drinks and doesn't know a lot about cocktails. The food isn't that great- it sits on warmer plates in the back. Was highly disappointed.

I think the rating of this place is well deserved. What makes the rating is the food. It's just a bit off from 5 stars for this area. Granted there aren't many BBQ options, especially real Q in the city. Cornbread is on point. The meats are good but lacking some smoke and flavor... brisket was hella juicy and had a bunch of bark but the flavor just wasn't there so they throw some sauce on it. Tri-tip was ok, a bit chewy and also lacking flavor that it should have. Potato salad is homemade and tastes like homemade, nothing special. Coleslaw may not even be made there but it's easy to see it's probably a bagged mix, again nothing special. I'm sure this place is more there for drinking and music, which is fine. I will go back and I wouldn't stop anyone from going, try it out and see if it is for you. Waitress was very nice... it was a slow night so not a lot of wait staff either but she kept up pretty good.

This BBQ joint is old school and I really expected a lot. I wasn't necessarily disappointed in my lunch, I guess I just thought it would be better. I had pulled pork. It was good.... just now WOW GOOD. The restaurant is old school and busy at lunch. Go early! You grab your table, order from a waitress, but pay at a register at the end. The smoke from the smoker is pretty thick INSIDE the restaurant. I liked it.... for a while. You smell like smoke when you leave. The two table side sauces were good. I preferred the hot because it was thick and also sweet. I'll try the ribs next time. Pics coming.

Northwesterners have no clue what real BBQ is apparently. How can Southbay Dickersons receive a 41/2 star rating? Their bbq was child's play compared to Lockhart TX BBQ. No smoke touched these products what so ever. Brisket was 14 bucks for a tiny baby portion of drab, limp, and tasteless meat. The sausage was Jimmy Dean in quality and taste. Side dishes are not worth mentioning. Price was exorbitant compared to portions of food recieved. As a native Texan I feel they have a lot of work to do.

A friend of ours suggested we meet here for lunch. I love a good BBQ and this place was great, until I tired the potato salad. Wanting to eat a healthier option than pounds of meaty goodness, I opted for their salad with barbecued chicken on it. This was perfect, the chicken had great smoke flavor and the salad was fresh. Because I love potato salad and just about any kind of food, I ordered a side of it. Unfortunately it really was bland and couldn't decide if it was mustard based, vinegar, mayonnaise, dill or what. It was less than impressive. I tried the ribs, ordered by another person at the table, and they were juicy and great flavor. Unfortunately his sides were also less than exciting. He had the Mac & Cheese and peach cobbler. I get that it wasn't peach season, but there was so much spice in the cobbler that's all I tasted, and the cobbler part was kind of chewy. The Mac & Cheese was kind of dry and lack luster. The service was good, which is important and they have sweet tea! I would certainly go back but I would just order meat and steer clear of the sides.

This place rocks. The BBQ is delicious, the hot links spicy, and the service good. I've come here just for the mac 'n cheese. Also, I love when they have live music in the bar area! It's small, but the ambiance is nice and the bartenders are simply the best.

Just ordered lunch to go, called ahead and asked if the coleslaw had onions, was told it doesn't but it does. Asked for a side of BBQ sauce. Didn't get one! The cornbread was dry and the pulled pork even drier, hence why we asked for extra sauce. We have been to much better BBQ up north, guess this is all Olympia has to offer. Meh! Won't be coming back!

Really well done bbq. The ribs are excellent, good quality house made sides- potato salad from red potatoes with skins, great corn bread, spicy Mac n cheese. Great smoke ring on the meats. The space is rustic, wood benches etc, i usually get take away. Looks like a good selection of liquor and their pig bar with outdoor tables and live music looks like it could be hopping on a Friday night. Check out their special board. I saw smoked prime rib one time and today's special was a smoked Rubin sandwich, drink and chips. On the street parking with pay meters, first 15 minutes free

So far so good. Not quite restaurant not quite food truck. Very fun atmosphere on the street with music you would hear in the key west. Nice and cool on a hot summer day. Good food excellent service. Will come back. Had the brisket cole slaw , potato salad, and baked beans. Good BBQ

AMAZING pork ribs!! --- That's saying something from me. IMHO, the best two places to get BBQ that I have tried in the Puget Sound region are Dickerson's and the deck in my backyard. I grew up in the South. Texas, Tennessee and Kansas City BBQ traditions are what I grew up with. ... While I am not sure what tradition Dickerson's follows, they do some wonderful BBQ. I've lived in this area since 2006, and tried lots of local BBQ. The only ribs that I have had that are better than Dickerson's are the ones I have cooked, but, not by much. --- Some other reviewers have "poo-poo"'ed the sides. I think they should get a grip. BBQ is about the meat. The sides are the "back-up singers". Let's face it, you don't go to a Rolling Stones, or Pink Floyd concert for the backup singers. You go for the band. Hedge Hog, or whatever it is in Fyfe, has GREAT sides. However, NONE of their meats are equal to what I do at the grill on a bad day. Dickerson's, on the other hand, has the only BBQ that I want to eat that I don't cook myself, in the area. --- If you want a "light" meal, why are you walking into a BBQ place, anyway?

This is my first time in Seattle. We "Yelped" this place and decided to come here. I felt like, the price was decent and the food was pretty good. I came here with my family. I ordered a pulled chicken sandwich and sides of Mac N cheese and coleslaw. I thought the meal was pretty good. The restaurant was quiet, the service was fantastic. I also ordered a "Spiked Lemonade," that would be my only complaint. I asked for a "double" and it still Tasted like a regular lemonade. No kick at all. But in general, if I were to visit Seattle again and feeling like BBQ, I would definitely come here again.

Delicious bbq. The ribs were cooked perfect and we're very meaty. And they make their own sauces. The mac and cheese was homemade with a special touch. So was the corn bread. I think everything was homemade, abs it was all super yummy. I would definitely go back.

  • Heike S.

I got the pulled pork sandwich and thought it was really dry, even after adding lots of extra BBQ sauce. The beans were nothing special. The cornbread was the best I've ever had though!! Food was cold by the time it got to me. The seating wasn't all that great, we sat outside, no nice view. Also the place was not very clean. They literally had to write a reminder on the board so that they would focus on cleaning. Service was good and fast.

  • Ryan M.

A fun place, great BBQ. Unfortunately the sides were just meh. The potato salad could use less mustard and more seasoning. The beans were bleh. But the ribs were delicious. Nice dry rub and of course your choice of several different types of sauces. I wish they had an all you can eat option for these - of course minus the sides. We hardly ate the sides - sad to see that much food wasted.

I had the Pulled pork sandwich, mac-n-cheese with jalapeno's and peach cobbler. The cobbler had lots of breading, even for a cobbler, but was good otherwise. I liked the extra kick the jalapenos provided in the mac-n-cheese. My husband had the Tri-tip with potato salad and baked beans. I kept stealing bites of his potato salad. They had beer and a good selection of different soda flavors in bottles. They were fast and good!

I think this is as good a bbq as you're going to find in the upper corner of the US. I don't know what "style" of bbq it is, but it's good. I had the pulled pork sandwich. My dining partner had a half rack of ribs. My sandwich was delicious. My friend said the ribs were delicious too. The cole slaw was flavorful. It had a slight buttermilk flavor to it. I had the peach cobbler, which was fresh from the oven. It was delicious too, not cloyingly sweet. The service was great too.

Great food, great staff, awesome bar. What more can you ask for. If your looking for comfort food this is the place. Juicy ribs, full flavor pulled pork and the homemade mac and cheese is to die for!!!. Won't go anywhere else for bbq!!!

Good smoked meat flavor and sauce combination. Sides were homemade and high quality. Plus a good tap list and liquor selection. Not sure what more one could ask for...

Meat was great.I really liked the cornbread. And you must get the beans. Coleslaw was good. Skip the Mac n cheese. Slow service. Took 25 mins for order to come.

Awesome BBQ joint! Can't remember the last time I had unsweetened cornbread that I didn't make in my own kitchen. The flavor is just right for the chicken. Could have used a few more veggie side options, like green beans or collards. Overall, very impressive. Perfect in the summer with their big garage door and patio open.

First restaurant my friend and I went to while visiting Washington for the first time. We were driving around Olympia just checking out the city and saw this really cool looking bbq joint. So we went inside, and were really impressed with the atmosphere. We had both ordered the pulled pork sandwich. Wow. Awesome. Her two sides were potato salad, pretty dang good, and the cornbread, couldve been a little more moist, but overall delicious. I got their baked beans which was probably some of the best I've had and their mac n cheese which was also some of the best ive had. Our only disappointment was their peach cobbler. It was too bready not enough peaches. A little burnt. But overall we were pretty impressed.

This place is the pits. And not the good bbq-y kind. This place just sucks. The service is really awful. One of the girls (the blonde one) that was working when I went seemed to be high on something and very out of it. The food was pretty meh. They were out of chicken when we went. My boyfriend and friend ended up ordering the pork and they all had horrible stomach aches afterwards. Get it together, guys! This place seems like it could be really cool if it was better managed and organized. I gave it one star because the bar is nice and the live music is pretty cool sometimes.

  • Suzie V.

Hit or miss. Sometimes the bbq is stellar, other times it's dry and fatty. Service is pretty hit or miss too. Too often the table is sticky and the waiter forgets stuff. Pretty annoying. But when it's good, it's really good. Probably the only thing that makes me come back.

I was new to the area and my friend was visiting. I love good BBQ so we decided to try this place. Unfortunately I never even got to taste the food. We walked in around 6:00 pm on a Saturday and there were 2 waitresses helping 3 tables. It was pretty dead. We sat down and waited for the waitress. And then waited some more. After ten minutes I started trying to wave down the waitresses. They looked at my friend and I refused to even acknowledge us. No water, nothing. After twenty minutes I was pretty mad. My friend convinced me to wait another 5 minutes or so. 3 sets of people came in after us and were serviced right away. One couple was sat at the table right next us and when I caught the waitresses eye I asked if she was going to help us. She looked right at me and my friend and walked away. Sick of it we got up to leave. I asked for the manager and some guy in his 20's came over. I told him how upset I was and he just shrugged and said "Yeah man, that really sucks. Bye." Seriously? I have no idea what happened. We were no different then anyone else there other then my friend was Asian. I asked for the owners number and they refused to give it to me. All I know is I will NEVER eat there again and will be telling anyone who will listen the same. Horrible treatment.

I came in at 12:30 on August 9th for lunch with some friends. We went to the main counter and after the waitress asked if we were eating at in or if the order was to go. We told her we would eat in and would like to sit outside. She asked us to meet her at our table and she would take our order. I ordered the "Two Meat Combo Meal" and asked for brisket and ribs, and for sides asked for the Macaroni and Cheese and Potato Salad. The plate looked great. I was surprised to only have two bones for the ribs but a good portion of the brisket. The smoke flavor in the ribs was too strong for my tastes. I doused the ribs with their BBQ sauce which is very good and would consider buying some. I base BBQ restaurants on the quality of their baby back ribs and was disappointed in theirs. The brisket was very good and enjoyed every last bite of it. The Mac & Cheese was very good, would come back just for that. The potato salad was a little bland for my taste. Their butter was sweet and creamy and was a perfect pair onto their cornbread which was excellent. There seemed to be only one waitress for the indoor and outdoor seating. I walked into the restaurant to get some wet naps and the waitress told me she would bring out our receipts. After a five minute wait back at our table I walked up to the counter to get my receipt and pay. I was hoping for better ribs, and I was surprised at the price. I would prefer to go to the Ranch House BBQ for good ribs in the Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater area.

Let me start this by saying that I have enjoyed BBQ all over the country and I generally prefer beef brisket over just about any other sort of BBQ, basically if it is Texas style I am a happy camper. With that said, and while the brisket at South Bay is good, IMO it might be the weakest thing on the menu, but that still hasn't stopped South Bay as becoming my favorite BBQ in the area. We eat there at least a couple times a month. You should be able to tell by the big pink neon pig that this is a place for pork, and both the pulled pork and the ribs are outstanding. The real treat though is the beef tri-tip when they have it, but you have to get there early before they run out.

  • Tom P.

We tried the pulled chicken and pulled pork with slaw and beans. Moist meat (unless you are smokin moes in shelton hard to dry out pulled pork). Much left yo be desired of their sauce. The sides are exemely bland and may as would be better out of a can (did not even eat a third). Would "consider" trying again if it was not a proud menu with a quality price tag. I will pay good money for good or great bbq, but not good money for below average bbq. Don't waste your time.

Spent 10 years avoiding this place because I have heard from multiple people that it is not good. My wife picked some up. It is not. Potato salad: Under cooked potatoes, no flavor Beans: OK Slaw: not slaw, shredded cabbage Corn Bread: had potential but under salted and either old or over cooked, The lack of salt however does not fully account for the lack of flavor. Very high fat, which makes the lack a flavor a particular feat. None of the meats come with any sauce to speak of, and my wife says that to get some she was told he had to pay extra for it. NO. Hot link: was very good though I cant imagine that it was made in house. Kept in a warmer way too long and thus dry. Ribs: both undercooked and tender, which makes me wonder how they were tenderized. no flavor, very little poor quality sauce, little if any smoke. Brisket, chicken, pulled pork: dry, no flavor, no sauce. Honorable mention: the cheapest possible to-go boxes and small side portions.

    Olympia's best BBQ place.

  • Rick S.

Bottom Line - This is no Arthur Bryant's or Jack Stack BBQ, but for the Puget Sound, this place is A-OK (3 stars). The BBQ brisket is tasty and I like the coleslaw and mac n cheese sides. If you're in the area and have a protein craving, I'd recommend this place, but it's not worth a drive specifically to come here. When I first discovered this place 2 years ago, the brisket was consistently tender and JUICY (4 stars for back then). However, the last few times I've been here, the brisket is rarely juicy and mostly chewy - maybe they're not smoking it slow enough or smoking it too fast. I was working a few blocks away and decided to come for lunch on Wednesday, 15 December 2010. I ordered the following: Slow Smoked Brisket meal ($12.49) - meal served with cornbread and 2 sides. I chose coleslaw and Mac n cheese. Meal came to $12.49 + 1.06 tax + 2.00 tip = $15.55 total for my table of one.

We were looking for a barbecue place on our way into Olympia and we were hungry and tired. When we walked into the restaurant we were greeted cheerfully by the only server. There was great decor and a huge smoker and kitchen within view. They were playing folk music that made you happy. The food was great. I had brisket and pulled pork with Mac and cheese. The sauce was really good, especially the thicker spicier sauce. The cornbread is the best I have ever had. Everything is served hot and the food came out less than 10 minutes after we ordered. No cons to this place. There was only 5 or 6 tables with people at them, but it was only an early Wednesday night.

First time - I had brisket and my husband had the pork and chicken combo. My brisket was about 25-30% fat and the chicken tasted like cat. The pork was good, beans ok, and the peach cobbler like bread pudding with canned peaches in it. Ok - maybe 2.5 stars.

Such soft meat and delicious mac n cheese w a bit of spice. Cornbread was a bit dry. Huge space and surprisingly emptyish on a Friday night...

  • Craig T.

Ate there 3 times. The first 2 visits were good, good food & OK service. On the 3rd visit - We ordered peach cobbler. The crust was underdone. We informed the waitress (mostly just to let her know so she wouldn't serve to others). She became argumentative and told us we were wrong. The manager was worse and somewhat insultingly offered us a $1.00 total discount off our four ($4.95 each) orders of Peach Cobbler. A bad experience that did not need to happen. We will never eat there again. I would suggest you don't either. Go to Ace BBQ. The food is good there and the service excellent!

As a true southerner, BBQ fanatic, and self proclaimed pit master, this place was embarrassing to say the least. Okay there were a few shining moments. The young lady who took my order was patient, friendly, and helpful as she guided me through the menu and made suggestions along the way. I sat directly in front of the garage style door which was cool because I had a perfect view of the clouds that were slowly taking residency in the sunny sky. The ambiance was your typical BBQ restaurant....pigs, benches, wooden decor, etc. The food arrived piping hot and the tater salad was nice and cold...as it should be. Okay the compliments stop there..... There was absolutely no smoky flavor to the meat or beans whatsoever! Honestly the meat tasted as if it was cooked out of a crock pot. It was very bland, somewhat soggy, no hint of a smoke ring, no nothing! The beans were good but again lacked that BBQ smokiness that comes from an authentic BBQ. Maybe my expectations were a bit unrealistic but once the bar has been raised, it's hard to accept anything less.

Solid little BBQ joint in the South Sound. Very clean smooth smoke flavor on the meats. Only downside is when you leave you smell like a piece of meat yourself!

  • John E.

I was a brisket-only man, but the neon pig has converted me to the way of the ribs. As other folks say, the meats are a little variable in texture/appearance, particularly char/caramelization of brisket and pork. It is always tasty, though--particularly the ribs. I am a fan of the cornbread and coleslaw for sides, and the boutique colas and on-tap beer selection will satisfy most any thirst. Note to the sprue-wise: though the meat is purportedly gluten-free, the main BBQ sauce contains gluten--check that they didn't auto-sauce your to-go order before you leave, 'cause they slip you the sauce as often as not, even if you ask for it dry.

Stopped in for a quick lunch with a business associate yesterday. Not impressed. I ordered the ribs and he got the pulled chicken sandwich. For my side, I ordered the side salad with thousand island. When the food arrived, it was STONE COLD. Do they just leave it sitting in a tray on the counter for hours? Must be.... the quality of the meat was sub-par as well. The salad came with Ranch instead of Thousand Island as well. Our table was FILTHY, so we moved to another - guess what? It was filthy too - BBQ sauce goo all over the S&P and napkin bins, as well as the tables. The inside of the restaurant overall is dirty. Not recommended. 1-Star. Dave & Anne

Southbay came highly recommended by my family, and it definitely had the Yelp reviews to back it up, but I really can't say it's the "best of the Northwest" for BBQ. The Food: I had brisket and I found it to be too fatty. I don't mind some fat (no fat = no flavor), but the meat was too fatty for my taste. However, I did enjoy their seasoning of the meat. My sides were baked beans and mac n' cheese. I loved the spiciness of the mac n' cheese (diced jalapenos are added), but the pasta was very overdone, leaving a soggy consistency. The baked beans were simply OK. The cornbread was dry (very disappointing). The Service: We walked in and were eye-balled by the two guys behind the counter, but there was no greeting. When we finally got to the till they took notice. A restaurant may have great reviews and a loyal following, but a business can never rest on its laurels when it comes to great service. The Cleanliness: I really expect any restaurant to maintain a clean restroom. The counters, walls, and door were grimy. The facility definitely hadn't been cleaned anytime that day. For Olympia this may be the best offering for BBQ, but I doubt I'll return.

Pretty good food for Olympia. I've had better BBQ but this is not bad just nothing amazing, still I'd go back. I like the atmosphere of this place.

We stopped by Olympia on the way to Portland to get gas and decided to grab a bite to eat at Southbay Dickerson's BBQ. We couldn't have gotten any luckier! I ordered the Beef brisket and it was soft and delicious. The bbq sauce was not too sweet, allowing me to appreciate the full flavors of the beef brisket. The brisket was tender and the outer, crunchy part had a blast of flavor. We hope to stop by here again on our way back to Seattle. One annoying thing about this restaurant was that half of the entrees they purported to be offering were actually not being offered. Talk about false advertising. The only reason this may be somewhat upsetting is because given the beef brisket was so delicious, I could only imagine how the pulled pork or rack of ribs would have tasted like. It's not good practice to advertise entree items that are actually not being offered. I'm hoping this was idiosyncratic to my experience. Overall, a solid experience. They also offer an array of REAL sugar soda beverages for those who are into that kind of thing. Beverages were $2.50 which was also surprising. The prices are not on the cheap side (my sandwich cost $7 dollars + tip). The bathrooms are clean and the decor is very industrial! High ceilings. I would enjoy eating here. Overall, a solid experience. We are definitely going to try and come back here again.

Southbay has awesome food. I usually get the Big Hit Combo and its enough for 2 meals. The only problem I've had here is going near the end of the day and they will be out of something or will close early because its slow.

I hadn't eaten at SD-BBQ in a couple of years. Don't know why, other than I just forgot about it. A buddy suggested we eat there a couple of days ago. We did. I ordered the pork BBQ sandwich; he had a half-rack. Wow! We both though our dinners were absolutely delicious. So, today I suggested to my neighbor we eat at Soutbay Dickerson's BBQ. We both ordered the pork BBQ sandwich. Not only were our sandwiches delicious, but also there was a generous portion of meat. I can't wait for an excuse to return. Can you think of one? I would have awarded 5 stars, but think I need to try it a few more times to make sure my experiences were real!!! BTW, this place had plenty of customers at lunchtime, a good indication.

People that rated this place less than 5 stars know NOTHING about bbq. The food is as good or even better some old school bbq places in the South. People from Olympia - time to wake up and give some credits to the folks that are out there bringing the best bbq you mouth can taste. More gratitude and less bitterness :)

My wife and I have eaten here over the years. We thought they had started to serve less quality meals and maybe we just hit a bad night so purposefully went there three times over the last year. Food quality each recent time has been significantly poor. Very little meat on the ribs, pulled pork bland or dry, too fatty ribs, etc. They have significantly increased their prices. We are willing to pay more for quality food but the value isn't at this place. Waitress was nice and attentive.

Went there today and it was terrible. I agree with a previous reviewer who said it's inconsistent. It's FATHER'S DAY and they had one waitress working during lunch? Barbecue, Father's Day, hello....?!? I had to wait 20 minutes to get someone to take my order, then another 20 to get my food - which came out before my drinks. I don't mind hanging around a rib shack waiting for some good slow cooking, but I should at least have some water within 40 minutes of entering the door. My ribs were cold and undercooked when I got them, and no one ever checked up on me the entire hour I was there. I had to go to the register to pay my bill. The only good thing I can say about today is that slaw is still delicious, and the potato salad is pretty good, too. I don't know if I will give them another shot though. I used to be a waitress and generally always tip 20%, if not more because I have toddler who makes a huge mess. I stiffed them today, and I don't feel bad about it in the least. This place has potential to be great, but it's so hit or miss.

Great food, no nonsense service, fun atmosphere. My friend says they are always nice to him, but I got the all-business at the counter. Also, it took ten minutes to make a pulled pork sandwich . . . But it's cool, this isn't McDonald's. And this place has so much personality, it was almost fun just sitting there looking around while I waited. Most importantly the sandwich was fantastic.

Good not great but the only Olympia area BBQ convenient to me. I usually have the 1/2 rack ribs and enjoy them. Once they were too dry with bits like leather. The wait staff cheerfully replaced them with a fresh batch that was perfect. My brisket experiences have been good. I'm sure other menu selections are fine but I tend to default to my favorites. Love the selection of sauces. Beans and cole slaw are good. Cornbread is o.k. but dabbed in the hot BBQ sauce elevates it to good or better. ;-) I have had both excellent service as well as the inattentive, indifferent, dismissive, and gas-headed. I have also seen them under staffed and running out of some of their most popular items on holidays. I recall what may have been a Father's Day, when someone called in a seriously huge take out order for some big family do leaving them out of most of their menu staples. I certainly don't hold that one against them! Besides, the staff that day was nice and doing their best to make me happy. Other disappointed diners were far from understanding. Neither can the folks on duty be held responsible for the person that just plain didn't show up leaving them short staffed. They are a small, local operation so I'm willing to cut them a good amount of slack. However . . . indifference when there are three service people and two or three tables is another matter. I prefer to give my money to a local business but when they don't seem to appreciate my patronage, I will take my money down the road. The atmosphere is super casual, rustic, and funky, with paper lined plastic baskets and lots of paper napkins on the tables. Huge garage type doors open up on nice days turning the whole place into a "patio." If your blood is thin and shivery, take a sweater. I find it a little expensive for what is provided, but when I'm craving bbq and not in the mood to drive, I tend to pay it. Might as well get accustomed to it because all meat prices are going up, up, up. (On an unrelated note - I SO miss a place in Lacey called The Speedway. For the time they were in business, they were my hands down favorite for bbq and beer. Hope they know they still have a few fans missing them desperately. )

WEAK PORTIONS! What you do get is mediocre as hell! It'll do only because the only other game in town is way out there. Pass on this place!

For Washington, this is as good as it gets. And I don't mean that in a bad way. This is very good barbecue -- especially the brisket. I've had barbecue in the South, and you could tell the places that were going to be good because you could see the barbecues smoking away in the back. Since this is Washington, you're not going to see somebody out back standing in the rain smoking the meat, but you get a heady aroma of slow smoking when you walk in the door. The restaurant appears to be a former garage, and is very casual. On a summer day you can sit outside and have a pulled pork sandwich. Give it a shot.

I wish i could give this place more stars, It was okay. The girl helping us was friendly and the food was okay. My friend got the special of the day, chicken with rice, which was a small portion for $10 and didn't come with any other sides. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich which was tasty, I really liked the BBQ sauce. The bun could use an update, it was soggy within a few minutes and fell apart. I asked the girl working what her favorite side was so I ordered the macaroni & cheese, and also the peach cobbler. Our food came out very quickly and was hot. I didn't care for the macaroni & cheese it had what looked like green onion in it which gave it an interesting bite. The cobbler was nice but the crumble part was too doughy and stuck to the roof of my mouth. We are from out of town, and I won't be back here anytime soon, but perhaps there are better items on the menu. One upside is a nice selection of hot sauces, and also craft sodas by the bottle.

Randomly stopped off here on a drive from Seattle to Portland and am very glad I did! Delicious pulled pork and an outstanding mac and cheese for a side. Service was attentive and friendly - I was able to get in, order, eat, pay, and back to my car in the 27 minutes remaining on the meter outside. Great fuel for the drive!

The pig bar. On weekends, a place to remember. A smoker's bar, and we're not talking cigars, here. Rastafarian rest and relaxation. Drinks are great if you like beer. Ambiance is great if you like beer. Aroma therapy-- if you like beer. Unisex restroom, if you like...never mind. And a whole support group for those who either regret missing the 60's,or we're kicked out of Height/Asbury in the 70's !! If you like really, really, really loud music, this is the place on the weekends. College bands from.....college. Many with arguable potential. They sometimes charge a cover for those who won't be staying long enough to finish a drink. One of this burgh's finest bars.

Ive decided to upgrade my rating. Over the last year or so I've been a few more times. Mostly I have enjoyed their selection of bottled soda. Empire Rootbeer, Mexican Coca-Cola, once even a Dublin Dr Pepper. I love trying out these great drinks! Had a killer pork burrito on one lazy afternoon too. Was a perfect compliment to the day! We also got our turkey for Thanksgiving here this past fall, dang was that thing amazing! Smoked turkey makes for a mighty meal!

I know that there are many people that argue about what's better, a molasses based BBQ sauce or a vinegar/tomato based sauce. It's all about style and what you grew up with, especially in BBQ rich places like the South. However, here in Olympia, I didn't grow up with one particular style of BBQ. You could probably say I grew up with no style of BBQ. So over the years after I discovered great BBQ, I developed a taste for almost all styles and I don't know if I find one better than the other or if I even care. I think the Dickersons of South Bay Dickerson's must've grew up like me because they feature two BBQ sauces, one that is a more tomato vinegar base and one that is nice and thick and molasses-y. Both are wonderful and a little bit spicy and when combined with their awesome smoked meats, it's on like Donkey Kong. They have a pretty simple little menu, the basics - pulled pork, brisket, ribs - served by the entree/sandwich, by the meal - sandwich or entree plus two sides, or by the pound. I've had both the brikset and the pulled pork sandwich so far and both were excellent. Super tender, not dry at all and just plain delicious. They also feature some of the cheesiest, spiciest mac-and-cheese that I've ever had, plus cornbread that comes with a little thing of delicious honey butter - a nice touch since I hate places that just serve you little pats of Land-O-Lakes or whatever instead of easily spreadable butter. They have a nice, homey, warehouse space that they've spruced up nicely since they got kicked out of the old Safeway building on 4th Ave. I love the big open garage doors that they can open up on warm days and the little outdoor patio. BBQ has come a long way in Olympia. From nothing, we now have many little BBQ joints all with varying styles and specialties and most are pretty good even in comparison to more historically rich BBQ areas. Of all these place, so far my favorite is South Bay Dickerson's because of the quality of the meat and sides, the simplicity of their menu and their awesome BBQ sauces.

Reviewing a BBQ place can be a tricky thing. They seem to be the most hotly debated reviews, with highly opinionated reviewers giving the full range of stars. Is it a "cop-out" to settle right in the middle, then, with 3 stars? Not this time... When you walk in, you're definitely greeted with a really cool atmosphere. It's very open, with just a few private areas, and posses a solid "BBQ-like" vibe. The prices are pretty reasonable, too, which is nice. Service was friendly, happy to recommend sides and answer our other questions. So far, I was looking to award a solid 4 to 5 stars, but the most important part was yet to come: the food. Somehow, the food didn't live up to the rest of the experience. Don't get me wrong, it was good. It just wasn't great. Maybe it's because I've eaten at the 2 best BBQ restaurants in the universe (don't you dare try to refute this claim, it's 100% true). Maybe it's because the atmosphere built up some expectations. Either way, I enjoyed the food and would probably go back, but I won't rave about it. On another note, how is it that the 2 best BBQ restaurants in the universe are in such small, out of the way cities? In case you're wondering: Sean's Smokehouse in Saratoga Springs, UT & Smokin' Dave's in Estes Park, CO. Go to them. You'll be happy you did.

We stopped by Olympia on the way to Sequim to get a bite to eat and researched the area on Yelp to find a gem. BBQ is always a way to create excitement on a roadtrip. :) It was a sunny day and we were able to sit outside. I was a little sad that some of the items that I'd been reading out on yelp weren't available on the lunch menu, specifically the pork nachos. We ordered a brisket meal and the combo sandwich. The brisket was pulled apart and the sauces on the table were great. The cornbread was flavorful and the mac/cheese had nice green chilis in them. My only complaint was with the beans. They had wonderful flavors but the pieces of raw onion were unpleasant and took away from the beans. The combo sandwich had pulled pork, chicken sausage and slaw on it. AMAZING! The sausage was so moist and when you bit into the cut up pieces on the sandwich, it exploded with flavor. Their house ice-tea was also tasty.

Southbay couldn't be better! The brisket is well smoked and properly done! The ribs are tender and flavorful! The Mac and cheese has jalapeno that gives it an awesome authentic southern kick! Good employees and a great price to boot!

Good brisket. I am think that that it should be sliced not diced unless it is on a bun. I realy enjoyed the hotlink; it was the best around I have found. They are my two staples when eating BBQ. I liked the environment of the place too; kinda reminded me of OK. Was a little confusing on ordering didnt know if I order at the counter or sit down.

I love their Big Hit combo and the Pulled Pork combo. I donate hazardous hot sauces to this establishment frequently, because I like the whole communal hot sauce ethic they have. Add a spoon of "Da Bomb" to your food if you really want a spicy challenge. Great food and staff!!!

I came down for the Procession of the Species and after a few drinks at The Eastside, it was time for some meat. This bbq joint did not exist when I lived in Oly a few years back so I had to try it out. I got the brisket sandwich and my bf got the pulled pork with 2 sides. He got another beer, but since I was driving I got myself some Bubble Up. I love the old fashioned soda. The brisket meat was tasty, but could have used more sauce. And it was all bread other than the meat. I decided to forego the other half of the mammoth bun as it was unnecessary. The bun tasted like it came from a giant pack at Costco. Boring. I had to try a bit of the pulled pork because that's what I usually go for, but I was pretty much disgusted. I think the bf only ate it cuz he was too damn hungry at that point. It was just not the right texture. We both decided that perhaps because of the festivities they weren't giving the meat the attention it deserved. It could have taken some more time on the grill. I tried the beans and potato salad. Meh. S'allright, but I've had better. Yawn. I probably won't go back.

Thank god. About 4 months ago I moved back to Olympia after living in Portland for the past 8 years, needless to say I have been spoiled when it comes to food. So one of my biggest complaints about moving back to this tiny town on the water is the lack of good food. Southbay BBQ did not exist when I lived here before but as I said, Thank God they do now. I am not from Texas, am not a pit master, and I don't confuse myself to be some grand food critic as so many others on yelp seem to be. I eat food, I like food, and this place has fantastic food. I had the buffalo chicken slider lunch special and my mom had the pulled pork sandwich. The chicken was great and my moms pork as well but good lord the bbq sauce. So freaking good. The spicier of the two on the table was by far some of the best BBQ sauce I have EVER had. My 64 year old mother ate it as well and loved it too. I appreciate what this place is. It is not Anthonys on the water it is a BBQ joint, decor is really not the point. And I just want to give a internet hi five to our waitress. I have been a server/bartender for over 10 years and girl was spot on. People sometimes forget that they are not the only table in a restaurant and as we were preparing to leave the small place filled up and she was multi-tasking (yes, I said multi-tasking) like a master. I also appreciate the fact that the guy in the back came out and started helping to bus tables, Go Team! So again, Thank God that this place is here! You will make living in this town again bearable until I can get back to PDX.

I have been looking for good BBQ in the Seattle area, but in Olympia? this is THE spot to go for BBQ. I asked what style and borrowing one from my pizza style answer I was told "Olympia Style" So for those of you seeking a particular southern style, you won't find it here. (But as seen from some of the reviews of those who have had real Southern BBQ - this place seems to win their hearts too.) My daughter and I were going out to lunch - I was thinking Mexican and we drove by here and decided to try. I am glad we did. my daughter had a pulled pork sandwich with a side of cole slaw. I had the pulled pork on dirty rice, since the counter person said they didn't have it all the time. It was definitely a great choice. I added a side of baked beans, which were great - not too sweet with a bit of a spicy bite. My daughter said the cole slaw was good, but I didn't get to try it. I will definitely go back for the "Olympia Style" BBQ

As a displaced Texan I like to think I've had good BBQ. This place tops the list for me. Anyone who isn't eating here is missing out! I come here about once a week minimum and have NEVER had a bad meal here. My recommendation is the "Big Hit", then you don't have to choose just one meat. Just make sure you bring an appetite!

Ugh, this place could be so much better. The food is decent, if way over priced. It was a lot cheaper before it moved to it's new location, I wonder if that's a side-effect of Ranchhouse moving away again. The service is always rough. The girl working was shouting at people across the restaurant about the ordering procedure, spent a little too much time dicking around, and was awfully condescending to her hispanic cook. The food is okay. The ribs, not great, tough, the Mac and Cheese is good, the beans are terrible, it just tastes like onions. I like the sausage, but unless I'm mistaken they're not actually made there. I had the BBQ pork sandwich at the old location and liked it. It would also be nice if they'd close those giant garage doors when it's cold out. I've literally had my food turn ice cold in minutes because they were open in the middle of winter. Basically more professional staff, better food, and not freezing cold. I've given it plenty of chances and I'm done.

The interior of this fun restaurant is very open, casual, and fun. I loved the random decor, especially the door up near the top of the ceiling that seemingly leads to nothing. The staff here was a lot of fun and it seemed to me like it was a bunch of 20 somethings got together and decided to start a BBQ joint. While that may not be the case, everyone seemed to be having fun and it was infectious. I ordered the brisket platter which came with cornbread and two sides, I picked cole slaw and mac and cheese. The brisket was excellent and very tender. I smothered it in their regular sauce which was a really tasty sauce. The husband opted for what looked like black tar pretending to be sauce and I was informed that it was very hot. I'll pass on that. The sides unfortunately were very lackluster. The cole slaw was pretty bland and just not very good. The mac and cheese had jalapenos in it so I automatically didn't like it but aside from that it was mushy and didn't have a good flavor at all. On the bright side I did really enjoy the cornbread which had a great crusty top and was served with a tasty honey butter. If you're looking for good BBQ, I would suggest this place. Just focus on the meat and forget about the sides.

We were here a couple of weeks ago and had dinner in the pig bar. I ordered the bbq pork sliders and DH had their hot link with their mac n' cheese. I was pretty disappointed with my whole meal. Granted it was a happy hour special, but the quality should still be the same not less. My 2 sliders came out on a cold bun, c'mon really. It wasn't that appealing to eat, 2 thumbs down for the lack of effort in heating the buns up. The potato salad, was not what I remember. It was to be a small side and I got a large serving that was way more than one would eat. The potatoes were interesting, some were cut in bite sized chunks and then others were huge chunks the whole think looked thrown together and not with much care. All in all some of the worst ps I've had in a bbq place. DH's link was tasty and his bun had been warmed, luck him. HIs mac n' cheese wasn't even made with macaroni noodles, it was tiny like small rigate, so not sure why it's called "mac" n' cheese. Overall a disappointing meal especially on my end. We did receive attentive service so that was a plus. Not sure we will ever some back.

I ordered the brisket platter which came with cornbread and two sides, I picked cole slaw and the BBQ beans. The brisket was excellent and very tender. It was amongst the leanest and yet most tasty brisket I have ever had. I smothered it in their hot sauce which was a really tasty sauce. Unfortunately I was a little brain dead from too many hours of driving and completely missed the selection of additional hot sauces they have available for us capsaicin addicts. The cole slaw was simple, not drowned in dressing very good. The beans were to die for, not super weet with an excellent flavor and crunch. I really enjoyed the cornbread which had a great crust and was served with a honey butter. We ordered at the counter and they brought the food out to us. If you're looking for great BBQ, this is the place.

The Brisket is great, the juicy hunks n chunks kind, not a few slices like some places give. Be sure to have the mac n cheese side, it's really good w/ a hint of jalapeno (heat varies day to day). The Cornbread very corny, homemade & yummy. Coming from me thats a huge compliment, I don't really care for 8/10 corn breads offered at BBQ joints. The combo sandwich is always good choice as well. Just big enough to stuff you silly, or take home enough to snack on later. I'd note that all the meals we've gotten are not oversized, but not too small to leave us hungry either. Oddly there is no bbq sauce on the tables or offered with your dinner in the bar, which is fairly lame. Its small in the bar, so it can be full easily, but we've never had to wait for a seat. The jukebox is free, so thats always fun to sit and plug in some tunes. Service has been hit or miss. Sometimes its great, and other times it's questionable. All in all considering the lack of BBQ choices in the area, I think its a decent enough place to get some grub & a beer.

(edited 6/5/09) Southbay is a great place. I only wish I had learned about it sooner. They serve the juiciest, most flavorful BBQ pork and beef in town. (I have not tried the other meats) Having grown up in the South (where BBQ is not a verb meaning "to grill hot dogs or hamburgers"), I am a somewhat picky about my BBQ pork. I have never been disappointed by Southbay. Their pulled pork, which is my favorite, is in relatively large chunks that are dripping with juice and very tender. The beef brisket is literally the best that I have ever had. It is the antithesis of the dried-out brisket that many places serve. I mean, it is so juicy and smoky you won't believe it. The sides are of excellent quality, my favorite is the mac and cheese, which is made from real cheese and pasta, not fake cheese. The beans did have a lot of onions in the past, but recently they have toned down the onion and kept the rest of the flavors. The cornbread is thick, buttery and not at all sweet - just like southern cornbread should be!! The atmosphere is perfect for what they do. Casual, open, with good music and a TV or two. You can look out through the open garage door when the weather is nice. The only possible negative is that your clothes will smell a little smokey after you leave. People will probably start salivating when they get near you and smell where you've been. They have good homemade BBQ sauces, tons of hot sauce to choose from, and several beers on tap. Also they have the very hard to find Dublin Dr. Pepper (Google it) plus other "real" soft drinks. My wife had the sweet tea and said that it was better than any she got on our last visit to Tennessee. They apparently have an adjacent bar that I have not been to yet, but hope to check out soon. In my opinion, a $10 dinner here might just be the best-value meal in town - if you like BBQ, that is.

I have eaten here twice, both times VERY disappointed. The orders were wrong both times, the inside of the place is so smokey from the smoker if you have any kind of breathing problem don't go in. The food was bland and as far as BBQ goes I have had better at a safeway deli. The staff is nice enough but the bang for your buck (and it is expensive) just isn't there. If you want fantastic BBQ especially the brisket take the extra time and go to the Ranch House.

Peach cobbler! Peach cobbler! Peach cobbler! I love that they serve it as one of the sides so you don't have to feel guilty for ordering dessert. And oh boy it's tasty. Not too sweet or gooey. Perfectly moist with plenty of peaches. I'll bet it's good for me. You know, not like dessert. The pork ribs and beef brisket are both wondrous and the corn bread is pretty good too. (Corn bread is automatically part of your meal, not considered one of your side dishes.) The cole slaw could use a little zip, but it's nice and crisp and not too dry or too runny. Baked beans are good, but I could do without the added onions. Atmosphere is as rustic as it should be... Breathe in the smokey meaty aroma and soak up the loud juke music. Juke box is free, service is great, and patrons are friendly. Family vibe in the restaurant, couples and singles eating in the bar. They have a full bar, btw. Overall, my favorite south sound BBQ joint. Dangit boy howdy!

Cold ribs, cold sausage, cold pork. Dined here twice in the last few weeks and the food was cold both times. One visit it took approximately 30 minutes longer to get food ordered at the same time. Our server announced the total, sans actual check, and waited for us to pay. Not sure if owners realize what is going on.

For me, providing directions to this restaurant is nearly impossible. I've lived in Thurston County my entire life and could navigate my way through town blindfolded, but for some reason I still don't know the names or locations of roads or streets. The best I can do is tell you that it's located down the street before Gold's Gym or what is now Fifth Avenue. At any rate, this is hand's down the best BBQ in the Olympia area. I usually get the pulled pork, which is great, and a side of cornbread and either beans or tater salad. I would have given them five stars, but their bottled beverages are freaking expensive.

When we found out Washington was our next destination in our family's military journey , our first quest was to find a BBQ nirvana ! , alas it was not to be. Then we decided lets try one more spot , we have pretty much come to the conclusion that the BBQ Gods personally gave the owner(s) and staff a great gift to bless the greater Olympia area with , the Ribs - Good God , the Brisket - Amazing , I could go on and on but trust me when I say if you haven't eaten here then to you madam/sir I say wether by foot ,car or boat get yourself in here , oh and by the way for those of you with children , yesterday they treated our Autistic son like royalty ,so get in here already , even the service ROCKS.

Quality is slipping. My wife stops and picks up brisket dinners to go on a regular basis. Lately, the brisket has been stringy and dry with very little smoke flavor. Last week the corn bread that comes with was burned to the point of being inedible. And the side of ribs I ordered was way overdone. Potato salad, though, still rocks! All in all, decent - but not great - BBQ. And, definitely inconsistent.

BAR ... BEE ... CUE!!! This place is great. Nothing fancy just like barbecue should be. The smell of smoked meats from the time you walk in. Sides galore. Service is always helpful and is great at finding something when you can't make up your mind. Generous portions and always fresh. This is as good as slow and low gets. They definitely take their time cooking. The brisket, ribs and chicken, it's all good. A pleasant informal, home cooking, cafe style joint.

It looks like it should be on diners, drive inn and dives. I had brisket plate and tasted some fat so it was not so lean. The potato salad was good as well as the corn bread. It was ok but not enough for me to raive about.

We stopped in for dinner with a friend and our kids for a bite to eat. I should mention that walking in the door I was hit with just the right smells (great sign). In the back of the open kitchen you can see their giant smoker (another great sign). It's one of those order at the counter deals and they bring the food to your table. They weren't too busy so they told us they'd wait on our table. Great initiative and it definitely earns a good tip. I love that they have a small focused menu (another great sign). They do a couple things and do it well. Going around the table we had the ribs, the brisket, pulled pork and the BBQ chicken. We all got to sample the goods and everything was done really well. The sides were well done as well, but I should confess that everyone got the same two sides: baked beans and mac and cheese. Both were solid (not the state of matter, but executed well enough). The cornbread was lovely and quite light without being dry. The sauces were really well executed with a really tasty mild and a hot that was full of flavor and didn't blow your head off. If you want something to blow your head off there were a couple dozen bottles of hot sauces at the front for you to sample. I'd also mention that they had a good selection of beers on draft. A few of these were from their neighbor down the street The Fish Tale Brewery. Really well done. One of the better BBQ efforts in the Pacific Northwest.

Ate here for lunch today. Was craving barbq. Thought this might work because its downtown near my office. I ordered the 2 meat lunch with 2 sides$ 14.89 plus soda, grand total was 18.49. This is lunch mind you. I was hungry so no big deal. Ordered the brisket and chicken. For sides I ordered baked beans and potato salad, standard backyard barbq fare. I'll start with the sides. Potato salad was adequate however had mayo and fill after taste and I think potato skins added to it. Not how I would make it but maybe its a southern thing.

I'm a Texas transplant, so I'll disclose up front that I'm a tough judge of barbecue, and I don't put sauce on my barbecue (because you can't taste the barbecue that way). My experience at this place was awful. The beans were cold, refrigerator cold, and tasteless. Seriously? The brisket had almost no flavor, and was dry. Did they cook it in an oven or a smoker? I'll be extremely generous and will give them 2 stars for trying to bring barbecue to Olympia, and because the design and decor are great, but this place needs serious improvement on the food before I'll try it again. Until then, I'll drive the extra half hour to Ranch House BBQ.

My husband and I had some yummy barbecue here! Have to say the chicken was my fave. Parking is lousy but worth it since the food is yummy.

I'm a sucker for smokey meats and their eccentric clan of sides. We finally made it to this joint over the weekend. You order at the counter when you come in, and they have a super-cool selection of bottled pop - including a mango soda made in Hawaii. But I digress. I'm not loving it. I got the brisket, which was good, but a little on the cool side. They were out of coleslaw, and there was a wait on ribs (at 6:00 on a Saturday with only 3 parties seated????) The alternate side was pasta salad - an Italian-style mess in no way fit to share a plate with baked beans and corn bread. Speaking of which, the corn bread was just okay, and the honey-butter mentioned by Brandon was way too small a portion, and not very honey-ey. I'm looking forward to trying the Ranch House's Olympia location. I've not been since their old building took a little slide.

Excellent brisket, good beer, minimalist approach to dining. Room was a bit chilly, but I'll definitely be back.

YUM-YUM-YUM!! Great ribs, pulled pork, and microbrews. Love that coleslaw too. Food was finger-lickin' good. The environment was casual enough for our 3-year-old to have fun without disturbing anyone. Counter staff were friendly & knowledgeable. We'll keep going back for sure.

I must say that I am a fine connoisseur of Barbeque. Unlike Jules, I dig swine! And Dickersin's had got some good swine! I had the pork ribs, really good smoke ring, tender and almost fall of the bone. They have some great sauces too. I also had the Mac N Cheese which was knock your socks off good. They also have some good brisket, great cornbread and just a really good all around food. The place is in a cool, almost garage like setting, family style tables and just a great feel. Next time i'm in Olympia I'm coing here!

This place is located in what looks like an industrial/office area. There is a BBQ lighted sign on the building. The 'restaurant' had two rollup garage doors. One door was rolled up and a netting covered its entrance. The other door was just left open. BBQ was okay. Nothing great. The beef brisket came shreeded like pulled pork. I expected the beef brisket to be sliced. So, I didn't care for the beef brisket. The pulled pork was good but nothing great. Note, no a/c in this place. So in 100+ heat, don't go there until sundown. I agree with a previous reviewer. The sides are pretty bad.

This is good BBQ don't get me wrong..... Though it is not amazing blow your socks off smell like smokey brisket and bbq sauce for 3 days and wonder how to clean the bbq sauce off your steering wheel good. They advocate to be authentic Southern bbq, though I am not from the south, and have never been. I'm not sure the Pulled pork sandwich needs a 1/2 a loaf of bread with a little on the dry side pork. the sides are good. I LOVE the cornbread, but past reviews say its not home=made buuuuumer! Mac and cheese is wonderfull and unique. I have had the ribs which are nice and smokey, but again lacking in the sauce department. The reasons this place takes it down to 2 stars are the Service and Price. Personally I think its way to expensive to get a sandwich for 9 bucks, and pay almost 13-14 bucks just to get the same sandwitch with 1 peice of cornbread or an order of whatever side. I can't even explain service! I mean they are really nice people working. But maybe its just a unique olympia flair that after me ordering nearly 15 minutes ago they have to tell me they dont have one of my sides I ordered.....15 minutes ago. I was tottaly cool you didn't have the peach cobbler when I ordered, but It took you that long to figure out your out of peaches? But hey getting double the mac and cheese was a bonus! I hope this place gets better with age. Maybe a little more competancy with the staff and this will be a ripper place for bbq. I love the outdoor seating, will soon check out the bar, but if you have a big party, bring your big check book!

Here at 3:55pm on a Saturday. We were the only customers. I dont know why, but I was expecting a loud "HI! What can we get you today?" I guess because its a southern bbq joint. Nope, didnt receive ANY "HI". There was a guy with an apron on that didnt look our way. Then a gal came up. We asked if we could sit in the bar. She said it didnt open till 4pm. (Remember we arrived at 3:55) so we just walked around till 4 and told her we were going to sit there now. The bartender/ waitress did her job and that's about it. FOOD: We ordered the 3 meat combo for $19.99. We could not believe how small the portions were! It was tasty, but not enough for $20 + tax. When we were finished, we were verbally told how much our bill was ..no check.? I told her i wanted an itemized check for our meal. She gave me that "look" and said she would have to handwrite it. I told her i had never been to a restaurant that did not provide a summarized check at the end of a meal. Her response: we are old fashioned but will be getting a POS system soon. ( this restaurant has been here at least 6 years). In summary, we did not feel welcome here( and we were the only customers at the time so not like they were busy?) , proportions need addressed and they need to present checks! OMG!!!! I was just about to post this when we saw a male employee take garbage out the front door. (We are sitting outside) Before he reentered the building, my husband saw him "huck a loogie(sp?)on the sidewalk you walk on to enter the building! REALLY??

Food was Ok but for the small portion they charge it wasn't worth it ($11.99 for 4 Ribs and a small bowl of beans) .Also they charge a $.35 for takeout??? Won't go back nor recommend this establishment. Go elsewhere is what I recommend. Thumbs down to this establishment. 1-10 I rate it a one. One last comment Waitress wasn't friendly or polite .

This place has a very nice atmosphere. I have had better BBQ. They give nice portions and for a good price for BBQ. The MacNCheese is great. The best item is the pulled port sandwich. Huge portion for a lunch. They need to shred the pork a little more. But it is good. Great selection of sauces to put on your food. I would stay away from the ribs, I've tried them a couple times and they are always dry and tough. It seems that they are cook at to high of heat and to fast. But I'll go back for the pulled pork.

Delicious southern style BBQ. All of there sides were wonderful especially the macaroni and cheese. My wife and I had a late night craving for BBQ the first time we tried this place and we got a screaming deal because it was the cooks last day working there. It can be a little pricey but if you're craving good southern style BBQ you wont find any better in town. The pulled pork, beef brisket, and hot links were especially tasty.

OMG! I had seen the neon Bar-B-Que sign on Legion just east of Cherry St in downtown Olympia, but today was a bonus day off for me and I had the time so I Squeezed into a parking place out front and ventured in. The barn door was rolled wide open to a fine first day of fall and the smell of the smoker was rolling out! I asked the girl (yeah I am a unreconstructed chauvinist but when I am 30 yrs older than her she is a girl in my book lol) what was good today, the brisket or the pulled pork and she told me the pulled pork and she did not steer me wrong! So tender it melted in ones mouth, in a large pile under just the right amount of sauce. Enough to add flavor but not to overpower the sweet taste of the pork. The mac-n-cheese had a bit of a spicy bite to it and the baked beans almost tasted like chili beans but with the sweetness of baked beans. A cold draft Deschutes with the breeze blowing in the door and the smell of the smoker made this a perfect lunch experience. all told it was a $15 bill, but I took home enough to eat another meal (or more likely for my son to steal lol) so it was definitely splitable (except for the beer of course,2 straws would work I suppose) and would make a good lunch value for two. Run, don't walk, drive fast, hitchhike, take the bus or a cab but you got to try this place out!

My mom and step-father took my husband and I there for dinner tonight raving about how good it was. We had been there years ago and didn't think it was very good. The waitress wasn't very friendly and the food wasn't much to talk about either. The pork was fatty, the bread was soggy, the tri-tip wasn't good at all. Then, we ordered home made peach cobbler and were told it was just coming out of the oven. When it arrived at our table, it was hard as a rock and had 3 tiny pieces of CANNED peach, plus we were given the corner. We told the waitress who said it was their new recipe....She said she would bring us another piece and we said no thanks. She promptly walked away without an apology or a smile. She talked to the manager and he said he would take $1.00 off of our bill, ONE DOLLAR!!!! Slap in the face, they will never get our business again AND I will be sure to share our experience with my friends and family....They won't last long with that kind of "customer service", if you can call it that!

Bbq is alive and well in Olympia. The family and I had accepted the fact that we would just have to drive to Shelton to get our fix at Smokin Mo's. Well in a pinch we now have a place that is closer to home. Great feel and aroma when you walk in. The aforementioned boutique sodas are fantastic. The food is well handled. We ordered everything except the ribs. I thoughtbthe brisket was way too fatty compared to other places but the pork was spot-on. The sides were decent, echoing some of the complaints above. All in all, a solid place to get some BBQ in oly.

New to the area and have been here just once, but am glad to say it looks like it's going to be a hit when craving SMOKEY BBQ. We've had the pulled pork and beef brisket and all were satisfied. Nice, casual atmosphere (in a cool, open space surrounded by lumbering memorabilia), and quick friendly service. The cornbread is really good...perfectly sweet without going overboard..mmm, the honey butter tops it off...Let the kiddies be forewarned, though, that the mac-n-cheese is not of the creamy type, but instead a "brick" of casserole style and including jalapeno peppers. Not my kinda thing, and probably not most kids, either, but you can get them plain rice, which is steamed perfectly with no "icky" junk in it...they might also like the peach cobbler as their other side dish. They have three house sauces of varied heat level, and then a whole slew fo hot pepper sauce offerings at the counter. Oops, looks like I forgot to take yet another pic of my plate. I always intend to, but the thought abandons me quickly and is replaced with the thought "get the fork in hand, load it up and begin devouring"....

bbq is average but than again ive been to texas.Been there a few times. mac and cheese is good when they have it. cornbread is dry. two times ive been there and they where out of pork. it really pissed me off, I ordered a drink and it came in a really small plastic cup and it was still weak. decor is a wharehouse, but I dont care if the food is good. service is lame. bartender adam is nice thou. the bar is super high very uncomfortable. they call the bar "the pig bar" and I know why, its full of fat girls. im over it. I will never return. and I talk to people for a living so I will voice my opinion. next time your in seattle theres a hole in the wall on first before the old sears outlet on your right only open for lunch, its amazing. theres no good bbq in oly. if so please let me know.
