Tried the bbq chicken tonight and it was soooooo dry I could have easily been chewing wadded up paper towel. BF tried the macadamia halibut, and the nutty topping was positively charred. Other irritants included juvenile drama in waitress world. No fun for us. Wait for a table in the dining area; service in the bar is silly and irritating.

Pretty good food. Had the special of meatloaf and potatoes and it was very tasty. The bloody Mary's are to die for :)

Sometimes I have a bad habit of ordering one thing, and one thing only at a restaurant. This is one of those restaurants! Service is friendly and consistent. Bread is always plentiful before hand, and my water is always filled. The only item I've ever eaten on here, is the Louisiana Style Smoked and Blackened Angus Prime Rib. It's smoked perfectly every time and I smother it with the included honey bourbon pecan butter. By the looks of other reviews, I think I'd do well to keep to this item on their menu in fear of having to revise my review.

Stumbled in here by accident a few years ago. NEVER drive near or past Olympia without stopping here!

I came in on a Sunday evening to get a couple of drinks and a quick bite to eat. I decided to go with the pulled pork nachos not really knowing what to expect. They were really awesome. I definitely want to come back and have an actual dinner and not just at appetizer at the bar.

I like this place a ton. The flavors are really good. The bread they bring you at the beginning is decent - don't forget to ask for balsamic vinegar. The pizza is far above average and is about right for 1 hungry person or two people who get full on a simple salad. I love their BBQ tempeh, the flavor is good. If you want a place to satisfy a varied group of people this will satisfy. Vegetarian ok, rack of ribs, they do that.

I went to Ramblin Jacks in search of a place with good food, good drinks (martinis specifically) and where I could feel comfortable to go alone with a good book. Ramblin Jacks is definitely the place. With the exception of one server, the staff has been excellent! Nicole is my favorite bartender - but there are other waiters that are great as well. Not everything on the menu is good - but much of it is. The hamburgers are organic & from a local farm and awesome. I also love the chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes, mac n' cheese, tomato basil soup, fried pickles, ravioli & portabello mushrooms. Okay, now I'm hungry. It isn't super fancy & it's not a dive. Somewhere in between. Relaxing atmoshphere. You can also just get a dinner of sides, which I do often for a cheaper option but still get out of the house & get some good food.

I am not a fan. I have been here about 3-4 times and at best the food was so-so. I often get a bbq meat dish since that seems to be their specialty. Everything I have gotten has been dry, from slightly dry to very dry. The beef and chicken were the worst. No, the worst part was the price they charged for the food. Way too much. I mean seriously, I challenge anyone who thinks this is good bbq to go a few blocks over and eat at South Bay BBQ. That, my friends, is just one example of what good bbq tastes like. There are plenty of other places too that are better than Ramblin Jack's. And cheaper.

Really, this is a top 10 restaurant in Olympia? I've been here a number of times, and the one thing all of my visits have in common is disappointment. It's a nice place, friendly staff, looks great, good menu-- the only problem is the food. The last time I went here was after a long day hiking in the Olympics, I wanted nothing less than a great juicy burger. That can't be too hard, can it? Burger was dry and bland. Wife's salmon tasteless. Oh well, what's the alternative?

Went there for pizza, beer, and appetizer. Beer good. I especially love calamari, and they have it! Unfortunately it was some of the worst I've ever had. It seemed like maybe they weren't cooked long enough, and the batter just flat out sucked. If their calamari was good I would go there JUST for that. The pizza was good, I've had better, but I'm a pizza snob. Staff, and atmosphere good. Waitress was prompt on bringing me beer, and nice. We tipped well. I might be back, and I won't order their calamari again. The calamari thought stirs my stomach if it wasn't for that I'd give 3 stars.

To me Rambin' Jacks is comfort food. I love the baked mac and cheese. It's so heavenly, especially on a cold day. Their happy hour is god. While they do a good job of accommodating large groups it can get really loud in there and be hard to hear. However, if you can swing getting the back room for your group you won't have any problems.

It's okay. Average food, average service, average prices, average Olympia.

Where to start...the waiter did not have the courtesy to even tell us his name, he never bothered to ask if everything was ok because if he had, I would have been glad to tell him that my scalloped potatoes were hard and my dining companions mashed potatoes hard and lumpy as well as cold. He brought the check without asking if we wanted dessert, and forgot to bring drinks. He also never bothered to refill the water. Horrible service. The food was ok. I ordered the filet mignon which was cooked the way I had requested. I came with 4 super skinny asparagus spears that even almost none existent at least tasted very good. The scalloped potatoes were flavorless and undercooked. My two dining partners both ordered the stuffed portobello mushroom which was very nice however the lump of mashed potatoe on the side was not. The desserts were boring and tasteless. I would probably give the food another try if the service would have been decent.

If you go gotta try the jack fries appetizer. I love getting the Your Way Sampler, get choice of three meats and two sides. They also have good burgers and pizzas. I love their bbq sauces on the table, yum.

Good burgers, decent pizza, crowded at times and Olympia is grateful to have it. There seems to be a lack of good restaurants but maybe I'm just looking in the wrong place.

Absolutely amazing BBQ. They have the best Mac n cheese I have had in a longtime. The meat was succulent (pork shoulder, smoked chicken and tri tip) and melted in my mouth. The service was impeccable. Many times as a single diner I am ignored not here! Great service. The BBQ weren't to my taste and I would guess they more a Texas style than the South Carolina style I prefer, but despite that I would still say they were good. The chicken was so flavorful it didn't even need sauce. Go here. Who knew Olympia had great BBQ. Worth the drive from Longview.

Food was pretty good, but service was very sketchy. Appetizers came AFTER the main course, one of the dinners came 10 minutes after the other 3, and there was no attempt to deal with the loud, intoxicated group that came in. A shame because it's a nice place.

Eclectic menu of BBQ, pizza, steak, chicken, fish, veggies & salads. There should be something for everyone. One of the better full bars in town. Good for business or social. It does get a little loud when it's busy, but let's just call it lively. One of my old Oly standbys.

This food was delicious the service was quick and the staff was efficient. My husband and I will defiantly be coming back to rambling jacks. I cannot believe we drove by this place so often. We will defiantly be back. I especially love that they are open late on Sundays.

Pouring out, just pouring out when we stopped for a break on our way to Seattle for a bite in funky Olympia. Looking for comfort food! We headed here per a local recommendation. The place looks like it had converted some restaurant chain at one point, not sure which chain but it just had that feel to it. They decorated it with western decor per the name. They've got even a pic of Clint Eastwood hanging up in the bar. I thought the bar area looked a little cozier to sit at. We decided to split a mac and cheese and caesar salad, and a good thing we did - Humongous (capital H for that) amounts of food. yelp.com/biz_photos/xxoe… It wasn't over the top unique or savory, but it was your basic homogeneous pasta and milk/cheesy concoction. The caesar was similar with lots of dressing and cheese covering all the greens. yelp.com/biz_photos/xxoe… The server was easy going and in a great mood. Of course, we rambled on out of there and headed out to our final destination with a full belly of food and the good, bad, and ugly movie theme rolling in our heads.. youtube.com/watch?v=h_ze…

Ramblin' Jacks serves an eclectic, nearly fusion-like selection of Southern comfort food and Northwest cuisine. They are legendary in Olympia for their freshly smoked meats. Their food is decidedly average despite an inviting atmosphere and attentive service. I visited the restaurant twice during lunch hour. I ordered the Carolina pork shoulder sandwich and a margherita pizza. The sandwich suffered from extremely dry yet flavorful pork. I've smoked better in my garage. The pork was served plain on the bun and the waiter provided squeeze bottles of sauce. The bun was slightly chewy and the slaw was average. The margherita pizza was average and deceptively small. It featured herb olive oil, tomatoes, basil, and mozzarella. Overall, I believe Ramblin' Jacks has developed a reputation in Olympia - if for no other reason - than because it feels like a local institution. The atmosphere is great. The food often doesn't live up to the hype (or the price), though I do look forward to visiting again to try a few different things on their expansive menu.

No more Jack Fries? Really?!? The Lil Racoon is outa here until Jack Fries come back! I'm not kidding! We tried to order Jack Fries and were told they are off the menu. We left...and spent $0 at Ramblin Jacks.

This restaurant is officially out of my repertoire due to my last experience. My daughter and I went in pretty late, which typically lowers my expectations due to my experience, even though it shouldn't. It wasn't that busy, and I have eaten at this restaurant probably 8 times, so I am pretty familiar with it. The server was very young (actually most are here) and she is just not a server. I will tell you that her ability to serve is completely on management, but as the end user of the product, my experience is regulated by the server(s). My daughter chose a special, primarily because she is a vegetarian of sorts and it was a Salmon salad, which she will eat. I always order the chicken fried chicken, which is usually good. The server didn't describe the special well, and when we got it, my daughter could not eat it due to it being drenched in a dressing that was not only unusual, but as she described it, disgusting. The chicken had no seasoning, and was bland beyond redemption. Our drinks were never refilled, which prompted me to call her over to ask for such. She noticed my daughter was not touching her dish, but did not ask why or if we needed anything else. I called her back a few moments later to inform her that the dressing was not complimentary to the dish and my daughter did not care for it. She looked at the salad, us and just walked away. She did not offer to fix it, brought us our bill and did not speak to us again. She was not a "mean" person or even being purposefully rude, but she evidently had not been trained and froze. The service has never been good there, but this was awful. We paid and left. I wont be back. Two stars for some decent past experiences. It has never been over a 3.

Went with a group of six on a recommendation, and we all loved it! I had the ribs, which were the best I have ever had. Others in our party had pulled pork sandwich, salad, blue cheese pizza, etc., and everyone was happy with the food! Finally, the BBQ sauce just cant be beat. Combine that with the great service, and you have a winner!

They're catering our wedding. Adam has been amazing in helping us plan it all. We've done two tastings just to make sure our wedding menu is perfect and they've accommodated us both times without question. By the way, their roasted garlic vinaigrette is AMAZING for salads. They really should bottle that stuff!

5 stars alone for the simplest of creations - the cheese pizza. Thin, crusty crust, garlicky, zesty, right amount of cheese. In short - perfect! Citrus Salmon Salad was also very tasty. But that pizza! Wow, that thing was awesome! No wait time for seating and friendly, good service too!

My wife and I went to Ramblin Jack's on one of our very few and far between date nights. We actually were headed towards a different restaurant, but passed by RJ's and it looked interesting so we went in. The decor is nice, open, and they took an old building and really kept the character while making it a restaurant. Sticking point on the setup, in there back room they have windows to upstairs rooms overlooking the dining room. I probably had the one angle in the restaurant that could look up into one of those rooms which I think is the staff locker room. Why do I think this? Because I had a clear view of a not very attractive man taking off his shirt and getting changed. Not exactly the view I want while I'm trying to each dinner. Like I said, I really had the only seat in the whole restaurant that had the angle to see this, so I can't take off too many points. You are very unlikely to get the same view I did. The meal started off with some in house made flat bread. To start, I love flat bread, bonus points. It was dressed nicely with some herbs. The bread was fresh and tasty. My wife and I decided to each have a side salad to start and then split the Jack's Sampler entree. The salads were better than your normal side salad. Nothing really special about it, but there seemed to be a higher vegetable to lettuce ratio than you normally find in a salad. The sampler was OK. The meats were not really special, the sauces were OK, but nothing to brag about. For a place where upscale "southern BBQ" is supposed to be the specialty, it was a bit underwhelming. Not bad, just nothing special. The one exception was the sweet potato. Oh my were those good! Whipped up but with a few tender chunks still in them. Flavored with ginger and something else I couldn't name. Very good sweet potatoes. Finally, we had desert. My wife had some chocolate thing that she was happy with, but not anything she would go back for. I love bread pudding and they had it. The bread pudding was good, had a nice vanilla creme sauce. Bonus points for any restaurant serving a good bread pudding, rather than just a cake they call bread pudding. Overall, despite some nice parts, I'll probably try a new place over returning to Ramblin Jack's. If you are going to try it out, at the very least, ask for a table that doesn't have a view of jiggly man fat.

Ever on the quest for BBQ, I remembered Ramblin' Jack's. Hadn't been there in aeons and I don't really know why. Place is looking a little shop worn, but is still bright and comfortable and the smoky smell that greeted me when I walked through the door was promising. It was about 4pm on a Sunday. No host or waitress was up front to greet and seat me but one of the cooks behind the grill line saw me and fetched someone post haste. They get points for that and the waitress assigned to me couldn't have been better. More points. I ordered their rack of ribs. The $21 full rack included two sides which is very much inline with South Bay and Applebee's. When I asked about the coleslaw, the waitress brought me a taste to make sure I would enjoy it. Can't beat that! More points. It turned out to be exactly what I wanted. The BBQ beans were good but a bit too sweet. Will try a different side next time. On to the star of the show, the ribs. They weren't dainty baby backs but more on the order of St. Louis style ribs, big, and chewy but tender. I liked them . . . even if they weren't as warm as they could have been. No big deal. I'll certainly give them a go the next time I am in the mood for BBQ ribs. The rub was good but I really can't say I care for their sauces. For my taste, they were a bit too "Carolina," which is to say, bland, thin, and vinegary. The next person might be wild for them. Toward the end of the meal, my waitress, taking note of how much fun I had eating my ribs brought me three towelette packets. I used two. :) They've got 'em. Ask incase the server forgets. In general, I would encourage management to offer a bit more explanation of their menu items. And, judging by the unevenness of the reviews, work on consistency in both food and service. Hang in there. I'd really rather support someone local than a chain. Oh, a special note to the lady who complained that her husbands ribs didn't come cut up -- "You don't get out much, do you, hon?" Ribs seldom come cut apart all dainty like. You are supposed to get your fingers messy and use up at least three napkins. If you need 'em all neat and tidy, ask for the kitchen to perform the surgery before sending them to the table. (Note: if dexterity is a real issue (arthritis, etc), the kitchen will be more than happy to present them cup apart.)

This was one of the worst restaurants we've tried in Olympia. We ordered the Jack's sampler which consisted of a fairly burnt tri-tip steak, fat laden (and I mean almost fully fat) piece of pork shoulder, and some bone dry chicken. I also had the sweet potato mash which had the consistency of warmed up baby food. The bread that they brought us at the beginning of our service was stale, and the blue-cheese salad dressing had a very off-putting after taste. To add insult to injury, our waitress was one of the snobbiest people I've had to deal with in a long time. She rarely smiled and avoided our table like the plague. I received one drink refill (after waving her over), and we were never asked about our food. For a 60 dollar meal, I'd expect a whole lot more.

My family and I have tried Ramblin Jacks a few time and each time service becomes worse, portions smaller and prices increased. Erin, our waitress this time forgot our entire bar order and only once did she ever come to check on us. The children's rib plate was the same portion size as the regular menu size for 12 dollars more. We will not be going back there must be good bbq in Olympia.

Ok, this is a review for the BACON CHEESE BURGER. The other food I've had there still isn't very good, but their burger is the best one I've had in Oly so far (I am on a quest). I like that the burger itself is thick and juicy - I don't like thin patties! It is made from local organic meat that they say is fresh ground. When I cut into it, juices ran. The apple smoked bacon was crispy and tastalicious. The tomato was decent (which is good for early April), lettuce meh, onion fine, but putting on a mixture of ketchup and spicy BBQ sauce was tasteariffic! (no bun for me, I am allergic to wheat) The fries were a bit soggy - they would do better if they double fried them, because I think they are handcut from raw potatoes - but the flavor was good. Very satisfied with it, will definitely be back. Oh, and our server was great, surprisingly!

Ramblin Jacks has a great atmosphere, good food and REALLY LARGE portions! Good southern comfort food. My steak was cooked to order and all in all everything I had and my companions had was quite tasty. Apparently I wreaked of garlic the next day due to the roasted garlic and gorgonzola on my steak and garlic mashed potatoes though I didn't smell it.... but my partner did! Lol!

I have come here a few times for happy hour after work. The bar has some pretty slow service.. They have a very small selection available on the happy hour menu but the Mac and cheese is to die for!

This is a neat little place off 4th in Olympia. There are a wide selection of menu options, including a delicious selection of smoked meats. I had the tri tip, my wife had the beef brisket. Absolutely perfect comfort food. Host staff irked my wife, but our waitress was very friendly. There is an open kitchen and one of the cooks were friendly and said hello as we walked by. Surprisingly good selection of fun mixed drinks. Overall a fun experience.

I took my team to Ramblin' Jacks so we could get out of the office for a while and talk about a project. I called the day before and we were offered their banquet room at no additional charge. They service was very good by a timely and attentive server. The food came in a reasonable time and was tasty. The facility is nice and spacious. There's nothing bad to say buy I can't quite give 5 stars. A solid 4!

Upon arrival, I was immediately seated and given water, including a carafe for refills. Love the decor here and the service was excellent. I ordered the deep fried pickles. .spicier than others I've had elsewhere. The dipping sauce was mustard based and strong, so I traded out for ranch. I then ordered the French Dip, which was good. Well stacked with meat and toasted. I had a green salad as my side. .the bleu cheese dressing had a horseradish kick to it, but was delish! All the while the restaurant was filled with the aroma of BBQ smoke flavor. Next time I will have to order something cooked with that method!

So, I went to Ramblin' Jack's last night. I've been here a few times and was never really impressed with what they have to offer. I didn't like the place when they opened and I still don't. Not much has improved. Last night, I ordered the prime rib. I wanted it cooked well, but it came back burnt. The taste was awful, but I choked it down because I was hungry. On a positive note, they managed to deliver a nice root beer float. On a sour note, root beer floats are simple to make. Prime rib takes more skill. Unfortunately, Ramblin' Jack's is seriously lacking in the how-to-cook-a-steak department. I'll probably wait another year or two before I go back.

Good job on caring, My family and I decided to dine at Rambling jacks for the first time Saturday night before the nutcracker performance in Oly. We had reservations at 6:00pm and arrived at 6:05, the place was packed with big tops and the staff was doing well with the crowd until our table. Our food arrived at 6:57 minus one plate. The manager and waitress handled well with recognition that the kitchen had gotten a little backed up and extended their apologies. They took care of use to the point we will be back on another night when we are not in a time crunch and they are not so packed. My thanks to the staff at Rambling Jacks, They know how to run a restaurant and they care!

Wow! Our first lunch here and the result are all bad! We order barbeque chicken, brisket sandwich, and kid portion of ribs. We waited at least 15 - 20 minutes for cold tasteless food. The only thing hot was the French Fries and the Mac-N-Cheese. Although, my (7) year old was starving and loved her food. With all this said, we know we will return, because of the waitress (she was awesome) and our previous dining experience... we had no complaints. . . Also, we only paid for the food we liked and consumed. I think the Chef was having an off day or I hope he was having an off day!

Alright, so it happens to be my birthday today and my family and I decided to go to this place for a late lunch. Well I will say it took 40 minutes to get a server to acknowledge we were there. She gave us one menu for the party of four, it took an additional 30 minutes to get our drinks, and finally after an hour and 45 minutes we got our meal. My burger was bleeding out onto my limp "hand cut" fries and overall we had a bad experience. I leave two stars just because the drinks were tasty....

I have eaten here many times and have never been disappointed. Today was no exception. Came in around 1pm, sat in the bar area, and was greeted quickly and nicely. Ordered the brisket sandwich with a side of slaw and a Mirror Pond Pale Ale. The beer was cold, my order arrived promptly, and my first impression was "this is gonna be good". I was correct. The brisket sandwich was piled high with a slow roasted shredded brisket tossed in a sweet/tangy BBQ sauce, topped with smoked jack cheese, and served on a firm organic bun/roll. Reminded me a lot of a gourmet sloppy joe. There was just the right amount of BBQ to allow for a little sloppiness but not so much to make the bun soggy. The bun was fresh with a firm consistency but not tough and chewy. The brisket was very good and i would order this sandwich again. Ok on to the slaw. First let me say that i don't care for slaw if its drowning in juice. This slaw was pretty good traditional slaw. Thought it could have been a little dryer as there was a fair amount of juice in the bottom of the bowl and perhaps a little more tang but all in all pretty good. Today's visit was a very good lunch experience and if you are in the area you can't go wrong.

Note: The last time I went to Ramblin Jacks was right before it closed due to smoke and fire damage. My husband and I came here for a date because all of our friends and relatives raved about it. We arrived and were quickly seated at a dirty table. The table we were seated at had been cleared, but there was still sauce, crumbs, and larger food particles. We asked to be seated elsewhere. The second table we were seated was in a similar condition with sticky places and food bits covering the table. The server who seated us heaved an exaggerated sigh, got a cloth, and quickly wiped down the table. He did this quickly missing many of the dirty, sticky spots. He gave us sticky menus, what appeared to be used silverware, and glasses with lipstick marks on them. I used my napkin to wipe down the table and my menu. We ordered safe and familiar options. A different server waited on us and the service improved. He gave me a replacement napkin but not a replacement water glass. Our dinner arrived in a timely manner. It was all right, but not great. Dessert was pretty good. This is not the kind of restaurant I would expect to have dirty tables, dirty glasses, dirty silverware, sticky menus, or apathetic staff who are responsible for seating folks. I was not impressed and will not be back.

We stopped in for lunch and while the atmosphere was the same, the food was a tad different for the worse. We had a garden burger and a Jack burger with fries and Mac and cheese. Everything was decent, but not great. The fries were a bit soggy and the Mac and cheese was a tad bland. Their Long Islands are still good though! Decent Olympia food at Seattle prices=so-so. The service was great though.

First of all, what a cool building! Really unique with high ceilings, divider walls with antique windows, really charming interior. We went on a Friday night and it was absolutely packed, twenty minute wait to be seated. Which usually means food worth waiting for :) Meal starts with AMAZING parmesan focaccia bread, yum. We each ordered a specialty cocktail, they have a great selection of unique drinks. I ordered the Jack's Bloody Mary (partially because I'm a huge fan of pickled anything, and it advertised an assortment of pickled veg garnish including okra yum!). I was definitely disappointed when the drink arrived and looked like a standard, two olive and lime wedge mary. The waitress didn't return until bringing us our dinner, and didn't apologize for the drink mistake. Simply told me they no longer had okra and brought me some of the advertised garnishes, definitely not impressive enough for $8. An apology if not a drink comp would have been nice :( Food was good, not super exciting but good. My partner and I each ordered the sirloin steak made "jack" style with Gorgonzola and garlic, YUM. Veggies were cooked perfectly and very fresh, mashed potatoes were simple but good. Steaks were closer to medium than medium rare as ordered, but still delicious. My gf ordered the bbq shrimp topper, which was $5 for THREE shrimps. Fresh and delicious, but for mediocre bbq sauce and the price of a small appetizer, kind of ridiculous. Improvements that could be made: -Obviously a casual style restaurant, but could benefit from dimming the lights a little. It was SO bright, and not so romantic for a $70 steak dinner. -More staff on busy nights! I felt bad for the waitress, and frustrated with service. I actually overheard staff complaining about being there as they were clearing tables next to ours. Not professional, or conducive to relaxing meal. We wanted more bread/drinks etc., felt like we had to go in search of waitress! -Make sure menu matches items, if you are out of something mention this before food/drink is brought Highlights: -Cool building/decor -Tasty food, good variety -Selection of specialty cocktails

I love it!! I had their thai gluten free pizza (holla) and it was amazing! Combine one of my favorite types of food (thai) with gluten free crust (since I am gluten intolerant) and I'm sold! The peanut sauce was just perfect. Everyone else had barbeque or salad and all looked scrumptious. 5 stars

I think the founder of this place must have eaten at a CPK and a cheesecake factory, then felt inspired. This place is a restaurant you go to for a manicured dining experience. The food is alright, nothing really noteworthy though. The bread they give you was tasty, but the rest of the food didn't really stand out. The waiter was nice, there was plenty of seating, and the place was on a whole different standard of clean for Olympia restaurants. For the price, I wouldn't say it's worth it, there are a lot of good places to eat in this town with more personality and better prices.

I have been meaning to go to Ramblin' Jack's for some time because I have heard such good things about them. My wife and I went Sunday evening. It was a bit slow but not deserted by any means. As soon as we sat down someone brought us a plate of flat bread but it was barely warm and not very interesting. We both ordered a sandwich, she had the pulled pork and I had one similar with "three smoked meats", not exactly sure what they were but it sounded good. Our waitress was very efficient and our order came in a timely manner. Both of the sandwiches were again, barely warm and consequently not very inviting. The flavors were OK but not exceptional or even noteworthy. I was trying to figure out what the "Three meats" were in mine but because they had been blended into a sort of mush, it was hard to tell. I had been hoping for something hot and meaty that I could sink my teeth into not a barely warm mass of mush. The fries were good though. I still have some money on the Gift Certificate I received so I guess I'll reluctantly be going back.

On paper, the happy hour at Ramblin Jack's is phenomenal. $4 plates of spinach artichoke dip, pork nachos, quesadilla, smoked chicken ceaser salad and their signature Jack sandwich. When your food arrives you notice what a fantastic deal it is. These are meal sized portions for $4 each. The taste, however, makes the value fade away. The spinach artichoke dip was flat out disgusting. It tasted like someone had added cream to mayo and lightly sprinkled in some veggies. The bread it's served with was good on its own, with oil, or some of their many BBQ sauces they supply you with. The quesadilla was so so. They wood fire the thing though so the tortilla gets strangely hard. Overdone limp spinach inside didn't add much to the equation. The hard lump of guacamole or bland salsa on the side of the plate didn't do much for me either. The pork nachos were easily the highlight of the three appetizers. Good seasoned pork and melted cheese over a plate of chips. I ate a little more than half of this dish and was overstuffed for the entire night. All said and done, it wasn't a bad deal for what was ordered... but with the prices and portions it has a lot of potential. If they just locked down the quality it would be a triumph. Without it, it's not really worth going back, even if it does fill you up.

Olympia is not exactly known for its gourmet or diverse food, so you really learn to take what you can get in this city. That being said, I'd frequent Ramblin Jack's even if it up and moved to Seattle. I just.. like it here. The atmosphere is fun and the servers are all happy and helpful. The "Praise the Lard" slogan just makes me giggle every time I see it. :) We went here for dinner after a show one night. Collectively, we had the sirloin steak, the wood oven roasted ravioli, and the french dip sandwich. Everything was delicious! There are 3 (4?) different BBQ sauces on the table - I sampled each with the bread. Mmm, all yummy! I will definitely be back! PRAISE THE LARD!

First off...FRIED PICKLES! Yummy! I have wanted to try fried pickles for a long time now that I have...hooked! I see Ramblin Jack's a place guys would love since most of the menu is hard core comfort food. We had reservations and that was probably a good thing...it was Friday night and the place was a constant flow of traffic...good sign! For starters we had the fried pickles and the fried green tomatoes...I'm pretty sure both are fried in a cornmeal mix which was delicious! Not at all greasy and the breading did not overwhelm the taste of the green goodies! The pickles are served with a mustard type sauce but I thought it tasted more like horseradish (very good) and the tomatoes are served with a crawfish remoulade which was so damn good we passed it back and forth and decided that it would be good on anything! For dinner I ordered the sirloin, surf and turf style. The menu said "covered with house made bbq prawns" and to my surprise the steak was covered in bbq sauce and 4 good size prawns. The sauce was pretty good and had a huge kick! I usually do not put any sauce on my steak because well...I like the taste of steak not sauce...but it worked. The meal also came with garlic mash and veggies...both good! My friend ordered the Shepards pie and I think it could have fed a small family...I had a bite and it was also delicious! Huge portions and a good atmosphere! Oh...drinks! How good I forget! I had the Key lime martini and the raspberry limeade both good! I also had a taste of my friends beer which was Spire pear draft cider and was delicious! I even took a picture of the bottle so I can try to find some at the store!

I'm giving 5 stars because over 10 years it's still my favorite restaurant in Olympia! I am biased because I've been going here for years. When I left my job to stay at home I still brought my newborn here for lunch dates with my old work buddies. My daughter has been dining there for over 5 years now and I love that some of the staff has been there for a long time. My stand by is the smoked chicken salad, vinegar & oil with the bread, and Lavendar Cosmo. I've never been disappointed. After going out with some friends who insisted on trying drinks at other bars in DT Oly recently...I appreciate it EVEN more. I couldn't even stomach the drinks...I made them come to RJ's and I felt such a relief...good drinks, good food...feels like home!

We ate here last night and were very disappointed. We went for the supposedly great gluten free selection that turned out to be virtually non existent(the smoked meats are GF but the sauces aren't.. What's the point?) I ordered the El Paso tri tip salad with my steak cooked medium. It came to me rare and tough. My husbands sampler was a mess. The pork shoulder was basically raw in the center, the tri tip was overbooked and the ribs were so dry and crusted, they couldn't even be cut apart to eat.. Completely apathetic response from the staff. Basically "sorry about your luck.. Bye.." Will NOT be going back...

Had the beef brisket sandwich - while the beef was sliced a bit thinner than other beef brisket I've had in the past, it was fine. Also saw the tri-tip at my table and it looked perfectly done - was ordered medium, and cooked medium (red on the inside) and delicious. I usually leave satisfied and happy.

I do love my Ramblin Jacks. They have delicious salads ( smoked chicken, gorgonzola, and candied walnuts oh my!) and my husband LOVES the thin crust pizza. I love their salads with their home made blue cheese dressing and their tomato bisque soup is a hit as well. They are reasonably priced if not a little on the high end for Olympia fare but it is good food. Food is comfort food, American style. Delicious pulled pork, bbq, mac and cheese, mashed potatos, you know, the arterie clogging stuff if you dont stick to the salads. Service can be hit or miss and that is the only reason they lose a star. I have had amazing service but most often it is good service to not so good. Just depends on the day, my friend. Parking can sometimes be a little on the irritating side around here - I have made the trip around the block several times before finding parking on many occasion. The other downfall, and is a minor one but for an ice tea drinking snob, it is a big one for me. They do not have fresh brewed ice tea - it is gross from teh pop machine kind. Come on - make us some fresh ice tea to go with your American Fare theme. It is cheap - you will make money, I promise! Good, solid restaurant.

I love Ramblin' Jacks. Been wanting to go back since I moved back to Oly last month. Finally went for lunch. I'm bumping off a star because service was pretty slow (getting our food). The waitress came by to apologize, they had a group of 30 in the back. Anyway, my salad was awesome as usual. Bf enjoyed his pizza. I don't think it's too awfully overpriced for what it is. I'm stoked to find out they have gluten free crusts! I'll be back to try it.

I've eaten at Ramblin Jack's twice now. I had the Smoked Chicken Salad the first time and there were chicken bones in it. Ummm, disgusting. My husband loves their ribs so I decided to give it another try when he wanted them. I ordered The Jack Burger well done and it was RAW when I bit into it. The sweet potato fries were pretty good, though.Maybe I should try something without meat IF I give it another chance which is highly unlikely.

My boyfriend and I LOVE the complimentary bread and their blue cheese and apple pizza! It's SO much better than at i.Talia. or anywhere else. Just thinking about it makes me want to order one up!

New to Olympia and willing to give everywhere a chance. Always disappointed when trying bbq in the northwest....ribs should fall off of the bone! BBQ and Pizza combo should have been a warning of mediocrity...the bar had a decent selection, but the food was boring and the ribs just weren't cooked long enough. Service was good from the bartender. So the bar and service might bring me back in for a second chance, but i'll try elsewhere before going back anytime soon.

I've been three times now and have had great food each time, but I will admit this last trip I had a burger with a slightly stale bun. The rest of the folks at my table had the same and I was a tad embarrassed after having insisted a large group of us go there as it was close and super yummy. Anyway, I've had bbq here and it was pretty dang good. I've had burgers here and they were very good as well. And, I've had ribs here and they were the bomb. I think I must like bbq and charred meat. lol It's a bit pricey, but they do have a great place, tablecloths, awesome service and once you do sit down, make you feel right at home and welcomed. Sometimes that's hard to find in Olympia. I'm so over all this attitude around here and it's just not part of the experience at Ramblin Jacks.

Painful how delicious they are. The salmon is perfect, the green tomatoes are inspired, the italian sodas make your meal, and the quesadillas make smiles. :) Bit on the warm side in pricing, but absolutely worth it. I've gone here many times with friends and alone and consistently got wonderful service, superior food, and great atmosphere.

Went here for the first time for lunch with a colleague having heard good things. The place was cute inside and our waitress was very upbeat and friendly from the get go. A few things on the menu looked good but I was drawn to the butternut squash ravioli in the gorgonzola cream sauce. Our waitress said this was a very good dish but on the heavy side, fair warning. Knowing this would be my only time to Ramblin, I figured what the heck and went for it. Plate arrives and it is just drencchhhhed in this cream sauce. It pretty much came in a bowl of the liquid and you had to fish for the ravioli. It was good in flavor, but far more than necessary. It clogged my arteries to look at it. The ravioli dough was tough, siimilar to the texture of a frozen ravioli or someone who just made the dough improperly, disappointing. The butternut squash flavor was good, but the tough exterior masked this. They serve free foccacia which was tasty to dip, couldnt let allll the sauce go to waste. Based on this experience I would really give the place 2.5 stars, but I rounded up for atmosphere and good service. I also think I just ordered a meal that was having a bad day and needs some editing. Other items looked promising, so worth a try.

Took my husband, son, and his girlfriend there on a Saturday afternoon recently. Was not real busy, but we stood near the door waiting to be seated and were ignored until we decided to seat ourselves. It took too long to get a server, who was not unpleasant, and to get drinks and our order taken. Don't care for their house bread. It tasted not fresh. My family was getting impatient waiting for refills and finally flagged a busboy who said he would get someone, but didn't. The food was okay, but a bit overpriced. Had to finally go to the counter to get the ticket to pay.Was a lot to spend for the experience we had. This was our 3rd visit and I don't know if we'll be back.

I really don't know what all the complaining is about. You can't judge a full restaurant by what is offered and served at happy hour in the bar. It's like judging a golf course by it's practice putting green. So step up to the plate and order a full meal already. You won't be let down. Otherwise, eat at the food court in the mall. I went there with my misses, brother and his fiance' late last summer for dinner on a lazy Sunday evening. Out of the four of us I think were tried everything but the happy hour menu. I had the Jack's Way Sampler. Wow! I love BBQ and this was rediculous. Huge portions, everything was great. I'm a big eater and when I tapped out it still looked like I didn't touch my plate. I had two meals off the leftovers. The little lady had the apple bleu cheese pizza and raved about it. Brother had the Jack burger and his lady had the Jack sandwich. None of us were disappointed. I would definitely go back. There was something on the menu for everyone. From comfort food to things slightly unconventional. The food was great and the portions make up for the slightly high prices. The only drawback I had was that the wait staff just seemed like they didn't want to be there and were a little slow. The place wasn't busy either so all I could figure is maybe all of them had a long night before.

We've been here several times and the food is OK, the drinks are OK and the service has been good. The happy hour is great and we'll go back again for that. Bar staff is very friendly and helpful. The ceaser salad was too fishy, I would not do that again. We've been there with pre-teens and that works. I would not take my little ones in, there are friendlier locations for that.

Always have enjoyed the food here but I have had some inconsistent service in the past. Generally a decent set of beers on tap. A recent lunch was excellent and we really enjoyed the PLTA (pancetta and avocado) and the brisket and corned beef sandwich.

I recommend people with minors to this place on a regular basis since we don't allow them where I work. I was here last week and thought the meal was great. I had one of the sampler dinners. Of the three meats, I too would have to say the chicken was not my favorite. However, the Pork shoulder and Tri tip were delicious. Our server was friendly and hospitable. I will continue to recommend.

I can see this place being my comfortable, go-to dinner place, like the Capitol Hill Elysian in Seattle. A little light on the veg*an fare, but they won't starve to death. Slightly more expensive, but reliable. I had a smoked chicken salad that was delicious. A friend had the mac and cheese with a side of pork...Mixed together, it was an artery-clogging but delicious mire. Reasonable selection of beers, mostly local. The choose-your-three-meats plate will have to wait; I'll be back when I get a yen for barbeque.

I attend a few networking groups that meet at Ramblin Jack's and today was the first that I actually had a chance to sample the food. I figured the best place to start was with a basic burger. It was very good. The patty reminded me of a place we used to get great burgers in Pullman, WA, which I'll have to review next... It was juicy and nicely seasoned. There was just enough additional flavor to compliment they meat without overpowering it. The bun was fresh, soft and I believe lightly toasted. Onions were only by request, but at least they did not cost extra. Cheese and bacon were an extra 75¢ each. The fries were rather lacking, but still enjoyable. To be honest I'm not much of a french fry person. The flavor was right and the quantity was generous. By the time I had finished my good sized burger the fries had cooled and were good, but nothing special. Next time I look forward to trying the Reuben which looked tasty.

The waitress was nice but encouraged "just water" for the three of us in the bar (seemed unhappy we ordered beer). We were never offerred a second beer although my first was done by the time the meal came. Chicken was really dry but we received no hassle for sharing a sandwich.

We ate at Ramblin Jack's the other day and it was a huge disappointment. Ok, so only one of the items was bad, but because it's one of the proud features, I just can't let it pass. The pulled pork entree was disturbingly dry. It was so dry I should've sent it back, especially considering a full serving is $17.99. Their pulled pork was one of their best items in the past, but something went horribly wrong this night. I smothered my leftovers (most of it) in BBQ sauce and had it as a sandwich a day later and, despite swimming in a pool of sauce, it was still super dry. I'd drop them down to one star, but the pizza - a special of the day that had steak, peppers and onions and a cheese sauce on it was enough to get one star back. And my wife enjoyed her simple side salad and the bread was good. But that dry pork most likely means that I won't be going back to Ramblin Jack's any time soon.

After trying to get a response from their manager via telephone and email, and failing, I posted this on their Facebook page. Still nothing. Hmm I was a regular at Ramblin' Jacks and am very disappointed. Your website does not have any email contact information and I have called twice to talk to your manager. I was in last week (3/26/2011) with an out of town guest and ordered a hamburger cooked medium. When I received it, it was still bloody. When the server, who was delight...ful, went to talk to your main cook, he, apparently quite rudely, informed her you cook meat 'pink or not.' Also, my partner who ordered the fried chicken received a broiled chicken and had to wait more than 20 minutes to receive his correct dish. This isn't acceptable at all - apparently now I have to go to Burger King to get a burger cooked 'my way.' Hopefully you will contact me now that I have put this on your FB site instead of ignoring my calls. Won't be back.

I've eaten at this place quite a few times over the years. I really like their menu. The pizzas are great. Love the mac-n-cheese. Not being much of a meat eater, I can't really speak to the meatier section of the menu, but my dining companions have really liked their selections. The 2 start rating is due to the horrible service I received this last weekend. My server couldn't have spent less time at my table. She smiled, said as few words as possible and just about ran away the two times she had to stop to deal with us. Seriously. This place should have better training than that. Unfortunately, I'm going to think twice about going back.

I can only comment on the bar/happy hour situation. I met up with a couple of friends for happy hour on a Friday where we were 4 of maybe 10 people in the bar area. The restaurant was pretty empty too. But there were 5 waitresses mingling around...doing what? I'm not sure. Because we got our first round and never saw anyone ever again. We had menus and plates on the table, but no one came to ask if we'd like to order some food, if we needed another round, nothing. We noticed a couple at the bar getting irritated when they had sat for a few minutes, right in front of the bartender, and were yet to be acknowledged. Pretty sure I won't be back to find out if their food is any good.

I would never recommend this so called restaurant to anyone due to poor service and much less than decent food. I'm still trying to understand why they charge so high for such low quality. Just do yourself a favor a keep driving there are plenty more restaurants in Olympia.

Well we gave it another shot...our friends wanted to sit in the bar and yet again the bartender acted put out by us. I had to flag her down and she actually huffed as she approached our table. She was the same gal that lacked customer service the last time we were there she has tattoos all over and an attitude that would run anyone off. This time I ordered something different....the stuffed portobello and it was awful. It was over cooked and shrunk to the size of a peach. Again I tried to get the attention of the bartender and she said she's not our server. Wow that's teamwork! We waited for our check and asked for a manager she said one wasn't available. We're done with this place. The food is sub par and the service is undeniably the worst we've ever encountered. Won't be back. What the hell is wrong with a business that doesn't care about the clientele....we're the ones who pay your bills.

First of all, thank you Jeanine for being so nice and remembering names. Service with the understanding and caring about people. Learning and remembering likes and dislikes. Rambling Jacks in Olympia has great sandwiches, tasty and different style pizza, unusual salads that actually work and many other things. The dining room is divided so that one side has a full bar and the other is family oriented. There is no loss of openness and spaciousness by doing this. Go to our State capital and stop in at Rambling Jacks. You do not want to miss this one.

You will walk out smelling like you stood in a Texas BBQ smoke pit. Your belly will be extremely full... Regardless of how much, or little, you ate. And your fingers might be a little sticky from the sauce. But you will be happy because you just ate some pretty darn tasty food! Came for lunch and we were seated right away, next to a window, which was perfect for Oly people watching. Had the brisket sandwich on a gluten free bun with sweet potato fries. Holy messy marvelousness! Like almost every other gluten free bun I've eaten this one crumbled under the weight of the meat and sauce... I'd be happy with brisket and no bun next time (the bun is $1.75 extra). Extremely generous portion of delicious meat, smothered in bbq sauce. The sauce was a good combination of sweet and spicy, but perhaps a bit too much cumin. My friend ordered the Downtown Jason Brown (who is Jason Brown?!?) and loved it! Overall the meal was pretty great. Although our server was pleasant and perky, overall service was slooooooooow. Not good when you're crunched for time. Also, a wet wipe is greatly appreciated after a sloppy mess of bbq... It would be awesome if these were provided. I'm certainly going back for drinks... Drink menu looked pretty sweet!

I've been here several times over the past few years, and the food is okay. Not great. Not terrible. Just okay. Having said that, the Reuben that I had today was pretty good for Oly. Although, the slaw was swimming in watery mayo. I usually get the old school server who takes her job seriously. They should make her the manager. Today my server had an across-the-restaurant conversation with the guy working behind the counter (let's just yell out the F-bomb in the restaurant -- it makes the meal so much more fun) and another server. They went on for about 10-15 minutes. Put a cork in it already. I think the best thing they have going here are the sandwiches. You can get better barbecue over at Southbay Dickersons.

Save your money....we ate there last night and what a disappointment!! I ordered a special drink and it was horrible then we got our appetizer of calamari it was miniscule and undercooked seriously there were literally 4 rings and two bodies ewe.....clearly not enough nor worth it. I had an appetite so I ordered the meatloaf....my plate was over flowing with dry bland chunky mashed potatoes with bacon wrapped low quality hamburger...also bland and dry. Then to add insult to injury top it of with cold gritty bland gravy. The side of veggies was about a quarter cup worth of mushy crap. It didn't end there....our waitress acted put out and seemed like she was on something....drunk maybe or stoned?? She gave us all the wrong food and laughed at herself the whole time. Well today I haven't been able to go anywhere due to what I suspect is food poisoning....my son had a hamburger and he's fine I picked the bacon off my meatloaf and that was about all I ate as my husband took a bite of it saying it was the worst ever. So my guess is it was the bacon. I attempted to flag the waitress down but she seemed to into a conversation she was having with another worker finally she came by and asked if I wanted a box for my food I said no it was horrible and she just put the bill on the table and walked away. Reading the other reviews I'm really surprised there are any good reviews. I swear there is no place to find good food anymore.

I really enjoyed eating here. Came with 3 other people on their recommendation. The service there was great and super friendly, very much on the ball with everything. My meal, however, was another story. I will not order it again. It was the Thai pizza... if you could call it that. I ate one slice and was done. There was no big Thai flavor that I was anticipating (I've had this type of pizza before). Nor will we order the buttermilk fried chicken. The gravy was not cooked properly. We will be ordering thr most delicious things again like the Jack's Nachos and the Downtown Jackson Brown sandwich and deep fried pickles. Oh my goodness amazing!!!! These alone will bring me back here again!!!

First time there tonight. Nice local spot. The noise level was a bit much tonight but its a Friday night so I didn't let it bother me. I ordered the southern style fried catfish I was satisfied . I'd definitely go back to try more of their menu

The meat here is good, all of it (try the sampler). I Sampled the ribs, chicken, and pork which were really good and a meat lover may just be in heaven. I also liked the sauces they provide. However, I was surprised they did not offer a post meal cleaning towelette after eating ribs. I suppose a really messy cloth napkin works but it doesn't seem very well thought out. And maybe that's the 'rub' here (no pun intended), things don't seem that well thought out. From interior design (the bar is small and packed while the restaurant is huge and empty) to meal details like how they should be highlighting their expertise in cooking the meat, explain the different sauces, and as mentioned earlier provide towelettes after someone orders ribs. While the meat here is good, it's practically hidden in the 'averageness' of everything that surrounds it. The side dishes are just okay. So again, if you want a good meat fix this is the place. But you won't find much else that stands out.

We went for a work related event a few weeks ago on a Thursday evening. I had never heard of this place so I did knot know what to expect . They had reserved a room in the back for the event and had set up a buffet type meal. Pulled pork, chicken , mashed potatoes, Mac and cheese and steamed veggies. I am not really away eater so I only tasted the chicken and it was smoked and not for me but everyone seemed to love it and the pulled pork as well . The sauces on the table were good . They offered a bread with olive oil that was good. The service was good . If they hold another event there I will try to get more photos.

My husband and I ate here for a simple date night. Oyr server was really nice and helpful. We didn't have to wait to be seated and our food came out quickly. Their lemonade is delicious! We got fired pickles for an appetizer and they were amazing. The side salad was also very good. That was all the good things I have to say. The food was NOT good at all. It was edible but nothing special. The ribs were bland. The pork shoulder was not smoked. The sausage tasted like it was microwaved. The mashed potatoes were cold and had no flavor. Our bill was $62 for mediocre food. Same yourself from the disappointment and go somewhere better.

Tried dinner here tonight, and was very pleased overall. The service was excellent, friendly. We showed up at about 5:30 on a Friday, and had no problem getting a table immediately. Infact, the entire time we were there, the place was busy but not overwhelmed. My wife got the lemonade, I tried their Maker's Mark Manhattan. Both drinks were excellent, particularly the lemonade. For an Appetizer, the Jack Fries, which were great. Our entrees were even better. I had the Salmon, which was cooked to perfection with an absolutely amazing citrus butter sauce on top. It also had young, fresh asparagus that was perfect. The roast potatoes were a little more average, but I'm never a big fan of roast potatoes. My wife had the Mac and Cheese, which is some of the best I've ever tried. The only part of the meal that left me a little disappointed was the dessert. I'm a huge Creme Brulee aficionado, and was excited when the dessert menu listed it as their "signature dessert". However, it was mediocre. My wife's chocolate peanut butter pie was pretty good, but had very small portions. Overall, though, we were very happy with the experience and will be returning soon!
