The general rating of 3 1/2 stars that Yelpers have given Dirty Daves has caused me to distrust Yelp as a reference. This place is a must-stop each time I come home. It's been a family favorite since my parents were attending North Thurston High School. Upon closer inspection, it appears that everyone who gave this restaurant a low rating ordered the wrong thing. Stick to the basics: Jake sandwich, spaghetti and a pitcher of Olympia beer.

Good stuff overall, and I'll be back!!! Pizza is one of those things, where you either love or hate a particular restaurant, or a particular "type" of crust. Some people like greasy, some people like gourmet. For me, this was a step or two above the basic chains (Pizza Hut, Dominos, etc.). I had a thin crust pepporoni special. Interestingly, it had cashews on it. Different, and pretty good. I liked the thin crust, because it was crusty, rather than doughy. Sauce was good, not too overpowering. The meat had a good flabor and had just the right amount of grease. Cheese had been backed to where it browned in a few places, but was still cheesy, not rubbery. For a quick pizza in Olympia, I thought it was good. Perhaps there are other good pizza joints too...But, Dirty Dave's was good. Overall, I really liked it. I'll be back.

Had the "Jake" today after a long leave of absence...and to be honest, it wasn't much sandwich for $9. More lettuce than meat, no chips, fries or even a pickle spear to make me feel better about my purchase.

A little pricey but great pizza! I wish the salad bar was a little bigger with more options . We love Dirty Dave's for family dinner out!

Great thin crust pizza and a fun atmosphere.

Oh my goodness. All I can say is I LOVE the Jake sandwich! These are delicious and if you ever get a chance to try one, you must! Yum. I cannot tell you anything else about the place, because I have never actually dined in there-- I always just did take-away service. But it always looked like a fun joint and the service was always prompt. Since I've moved, though... I truly miss those Jake sandwiches!

    Yuck, canned mushrooms

I can't say enough how much I love this place!! They have awesome pizza, and gluten free crust! Plus, they have some of the best customer service I've experienced anywhere. When they accidentally made me a regular pizza when I had asked for gluten free, they not only replaced it and took it off my bill completely, but sent us home with free meatballs! Keep it up Dirty Dave's. We'll keep coming back!

Was led here by the great reviews and am really disappointed. Ordered a pepperoni with mushrooms and olives. They served it to us as a pepperoni but apparantly they had forgotten to add mushrooms and olives until after it came out of oven so they just dumped them on afterward. We asked a guy who worked there as he was walking by table and he said it didn't look eight and he'd have cook come over but he never did. Pretty sad meal.

The walls are filled with interesting memorabilia and the Jake is a seriously great sandwich. The pizza is ok and the deal for $9 that gives you an unlimited salad bar and mini pizza is a pretty awesome deal. I can picture myself coming back again and again just for the Jake though, it's that good. My only gripe is with the salad bar, the ingredients just weren't my favorite and it seemed small.

Stopped in here on the way back from a road trip. I mean, with a name like this, how could you not? Unfortunately the pizza was not just below average, I'd almost go as far as calling it bad. I did manage to choke it down, but it was such a shame to see a pizza created in such a manner. An abuse of its species. The crust was pretty thin, and yet somehow soggy at the same time. I had pepperoni and mushrooms -- and the mushrooms were clearly out of a can. Yuck. The beer was ok. The atmopshere wasn't even that special. Some of the reviews talk about how cool it is. I don't see what's so (18-)90's about it other than maybe the lamps. All the artwork is a hodgepodge of Mariner BS and some old time photographs. In a word: Lame.

  • Ana J. L.

To be fair, I can only really review the Gay 90s pizza because I tried that the first time I ever went and never ordered anything else after that. It is one of the most delicious pizza's I've ever had, and I usually don't like thin crust; I'm more of a Chicago style gal. Anyway, the pizza is fantastic and the staff is always friendly. The place LOOKS dirty and old, but it's clean, they just need to redecorate and/or renovate. But it's still a cool place to feel ultra casual and get some great pizza.

I love this place! I recommend the spaghetti and meatballs. The meat-sauce is fantastic and the spaghetti is perfectly al-dente. The atmosphere is fun and comfortable. This is a great, affordable, spot for lunch, dinner, or a group event.

Absolute favorite pizza place in town. Their drive-thru pick up window is super convenient for take out. Thin crust, delicious toppings. Amazing pizza!

After over ten years of living in Olympia and not going to Dirty Dave's -- not for any particular reason -- I finally had an opportunity to visit last night (with my husband) for a friend's kids' birthday party. Our friend rented out the back room, which was understandably loud (given the event!); however, throughout our dinner, the rest of the restaurant seemed surprisingly quiet and low-key. (This despite a video room corner and some bland soft rock spilling from the speakers ... I could still actually hear myself think, even over the horrid cover of that Daniel Powter song that was even worse than the original!) My husband and I ordered from the front counter and received our salads within 10 minutes, and our pasta probably 10 minutes after that. The servers all seemed friendly ... and patient with the many kids running aroud in excitement. Between salad and dinner, I amused myself by looking around at the hodgepodge of wall decorations. I can't say anything on the walls screamed "gay '90s" (which is fine since that's technically not even in the restaurant name any more); still, there were funny signs and posters of Elvis and a few other kitschy, pop culture-y things. As far as the food ... well, we decided on the "combo special" that gave us two half-orders of pasta plus our two salads and some bread (along with a pitcher of pop, this cost a little over $20 all told ... not too bad. There was plenty of food; we didn't take any home, but we were definitely full after eating.) The salad was very Amtrak-ish: basically, the same stuff you get in those pre-made bagged "salads" at the grocery store (lettuce, carrot slivers, beets or whatever those purple things are) plus two small cherry tomatoes. I had oil and vinegar dressing, which tasted like ... oil and vinegar. The bread was pretty good! As for our pasta -- we tried both ravioli (which was somewhere between "meh" and "good") and spaghetti with clam sauce. I was most impressed with the clam sauce! Both pasta dishes were cold after seemingly about 60 seconds; still, Dirty Dave's is hardly the first dining establishment with that fault, and it didn't take away from that delectable clam sauce! (Serious, yum!) Overall, it's not that I actually expected the place to be "dirty" -- I'd just never given it much thought one way or the other --- yet, I was pleasantly surprised by our visit. I'm not circling any dates on my calendar yet, but we'll most likely go back in the not-too-distant future. I look forward to trying that cashew pizza! (Or the one with shrimp and anchovies along with a gazillion other toppings, or perhaps the "Mexican" pizza! In other words, the menu looked promising!)

Great food. I loved that they had a salad bar. I found their marinara sauce to be a little too sweet for my taste. This is a great place to go with kids!

    (4)
  • Michael M.

Honestly, I could of made that pizza at home. But I understand not everyone can do that, so I would say if you're that person, then this place is for you.

Dirty Daves is a great local piazza parlor famous for it's posters covering the walls and ceiling. Daves has good pizza and great sandwiches. Has a nice banquet room perfect for kids parties.

I have only lived in Lacey for about 9 months and since I drive by this place every day I work, and a co-worker said they were good, we stopped in last night. Worst decision of the day! If you like cardboard with some sauce smathered on top, then some canned toppings thrown around and baked for 20 minutes, this is the place you want to be. Otherwise a large pizza, 4 very small side salads and a pitcher of soda are not worth any where near $40 here! We ordered the combination pizza. Every single ingredient came out of a can or plastic package. The shrimp were canned salad shrimp. The mushrooms were canned mushrooms with a tainted hint of green. The green olives appeared to have been marinated in a can for about 10 years. All of which we obviously didn't read on the menu, we got through the sausage, pepperoni, salami, olives, onions and stopped there figuring it was your normal combo pizza. WRONG! If the pizza had been $5, sure, ok. Not $20 just for canned toppings and a crust that is paper thin. The only thing good about it was the crust. I won't be back to this place, thats for sure! I don't care what kind of history it has.

    (1)
  • Jason C.

Wasn't very impressed with the place. I tried the thin crust pepperoni pizza, and probably would have been better off with a frozen gourmet pizza. The cheese was plasticky, crust was too rubbery. I won't be returning.

Oh...Dirty Dave's - the original Olympia/Lacey dirt bag pizza place. What a dump, what a beautiful dump. Almost every single inch of the place is covered in classic beer posters, advertisements and graffiti. There was a time when it was really gross in there, but they have cleaned up and made quite a few improvements and it no longer feels totally unsanitary, just old and quirky now. The pizza features a crispy thin crust that is very similar to my favorite crust at the ex-Lacey classic The Pizza Place ( yelp.com/biz/the-pizza-p… ) and the British Columbian and Californian chain Me & Ed's ( yelp.com/biz/me-n-eds-ca… ). Despite being the same crust idea, something is always missing. The recipe is just a little bit different. It's not as buttery and not as crispy and not nearly as satisfying. But it's still good and I prefer their crust over Brewery City and any of the chain pizza places in Lacey. My wife used to love their lasagna, but it wasn't the same when we picked up an order this Saturday. It tasted similar and was still good, but the "whole" order was far smaller than it used to be and they didn't serve it in the metal tray that they cooked it in like they used to instead somehow pulling it into a Styrofoam container letting the lasagna lose its structure and turn into a spread out mess. It didn't have the bubbly, cheesy top that made it so tasty. Dirty Dave's is just one of those places that, if you grew up with it, you love it. It's a very nostalgic place for many of us. But if you are new to the Gay Nineties Pizza Parlor, it might not be for you.

  • A S.

The best thing about this place is that kids are happy for a while in the video game room. Oh, yah, the cashews are good. Otherwise, I can't believe they can get away with serving bologna-like meat substance on their "Ham" and pineapple pizzas. Repeatedly. We thought the H & P pizza might be better a year later when we tried it again - it is a handy location, after all... If you like late 60's decor, this is the place for you - a la Skateland. Improvement? Apparently over-rated here. But amusing. Service is usually pretty nice. Basic, but nice. So, bring quarters for the games and get cashews on your pizza and you'll be relatively safe.

OK, after several comments on the name on this business, History lesson time! Dirty Dave's Gay Nineties Pizza Parlor has been around for a while. I was frequenting the place during college in the early 1970's (I know, now you can take out your smartphone and figure out that I was around when the dinosaurs roamed the earth.) Back then, my young ones, a Gay Man was a happy heterosexual and the only 90's anyone knew about were the 1890's from some dusty history books. And Dirty Dave? I was always afraid to ask about that - do you really want to know why some smelly guy in the back you can't see who is making your pizza has a nickname of Dirty? Why they didn't change their name to something like Happy Dave's 21st Century Pizza is beyond me, but they stuck with their name. This was my favorite pizza place during college (yes they have been around that long). Looking back it must have been because they sold us pitchers of dark beer really cheap. I went back there with my daughter and granddaughter and ordered a Gay 90's Special, with pepperoni, shrimp, cashews and onion. The crust was still the same as I remembered, but It left us wondering "Where's the toppings." There was a light hint of sauce, a single circle of pepperoni around the edge of the pizza, followed by a few shrimp and a smattering of cashews and onions. Very disappointing. Yeah, the posters on the walls was fun. And a lot more fun after rolling up some smoking material on the way in the door and drinking 2 pitchers of beer. (Hey, it was the 70s and as one of my former co-workers stated "If you remembered the 70s you couldn't possible have lived through them.") It is fun to go remember old times, but I don't think I'll be back for pizza nostalgia again. Now a pitcher of beer with an old buddy I hung out with there - that's different - if I could just remember who I hung out with when I frequented this place!

An Olympia classic, not all that good but darn if we don't keep going back year after year. The Jake's sandwich is great, you can feed a family spaghetti and still have money left, and it's one of the few places for a taco pizza.

Love Daves! Very good grub. The Jake sandwich is very good. Love the atmosphere. Great for parties and get togethers. Excellent for kids with the little game room. Great place to hang out and talk to friends.

i dont care what kind of pizza you order, the thick or thin crust, its SO GOOD- i have an unusual distaste for canned mushrooms, dirty dave's uses fresh ones. if you can call a fungus 'fresh'. i always take my kids on a friday or saturday night, its usually in full swing and busy (pretty noisy) but the wait time for food is never unreasonable. good place to bring the kids

Like many previous reviewers, I love this place because it reminds me of my childhood, most noteably, Shakey's. Not great, but a good family place where you can let your hair down and not worry about Oly snobs.

Canned mushrooms really made my stomach turn. The rest of the pizza was good.

  • Elise L.

Yeah, I'm biased. This is the pizza I grew up on, this is the pizza that I compair all others against. Thin crispy crust, slight sweet salty sauce, cheese... and CASHEWS. I've not found another pizza place that puts cashews on their pizza, and until I do, Dirty Dave's will reign supreme. Well, they might do so even if I do find another place that puts cashews on pizza 'cause Dirty Dave's is just awesome. I'm particularly a fan of sitting at the bar and watching the antics of the guys in the kitchen.

Having almost grew up in this Pizza Parlor I have to give 5 stars. From what I remember the pizza was great, with thin crust and just a bit oily. However, the atmosphere is what is killer. Real interesting place with alot of old memorabilia adorning the walls.

we google searched pizza places in the olympia area and one by one we have been trying them out. we started the evening with the thoughts of getting a sicilian pie but it seems like that is nearly impossible to do here. we looked at dirty dave's online menu ( their website is well put together, which would give someone the impression that they were perhaps eating in a tgi-friday's like atmosphere. we ordered a "3-D" for carry out. the closest thing to a sicilian on the menu. it is actually a pan pizza though. the toppings were okay. i liked that over the phone i was asked is i preferred canned or fresh mushrooms. when we got the pizza home, we were amazed/appalled at how much cheese one pound actually is. the cheese to sauce to crust ratio was way out of balance. the crust could barely handle all the cheese. there were a suitable amount of toppings, but the sauce was really a "barely there" smear of sauce. we ate it. we both now feel as though we are prime candidates for bypass surgery. there is just nothing extraordinary about the flavors in the pie. however the service, both over the phone and when i went in to pick up the pie were good. the "ambience" totally reminds me of sleazy pizzerias back east, that i miss soooooooooo much.

Ok pizza. It feels like how you remember a pizza place when you were 10-12, complete with bar. There is nothing special about the place and nothing bad.

It was a time of innocence. Parents could let their children just roam the streets of Lacey care free. There was a mall just on the other side of the freeway that every Christmas season had a nativity scene with loudspeakers blasting holiday music. The mushroom farm stunk to high heaven. Hawks Prairie was a truck stop. There was plenty of woods for kids to explore. Now days Martin Way just feels like South Tacoma Way had gone subterranean through DuPont and resurfaced at Meridian Rd. Tattoo parlors, chain fast food restaurants, predatory payday loan offices, marijuana shops, and bikini baristas pepper the once lush green landscape. But there are a few of the old places remaining. Norma's Burgers, The Viking Tavern, and of course Dirty Dave's but unlike the previous two I've actually been in Dave's. Back then there were only a hand full of posters on the walls and sawdust on the floor. They only had two things to drink, whiskey and the blood from your gums when you got socked in the mouth for not being man enough for whiskey. Gentleman were still expected to take off their hats when entering. Strangers weren't welcome and the locals greeted each other with a smile. Yeah, there sure have been a lot of changes in Lacey and a few at Dirty Dave's. Two things that sure as heck haven't changed is that The Jake is still the best sandwich this side of the Cascades and the mushroom farm still stinks to high heaven.

I'm confused. This place was just ok, not good, not bad, just ok. We got the bite pizza w unlimited salad bar. The tiniest 6" pizza ever was delivered prompt to my table. It was so thin, if I stacked all four slices together, I'd still end up w half a slice of real pizza. It tasted ok though. The salad bar was terrible, what are people talking about? It's watery iceberg lettuce w canned/ bagged options to put on the salad. They supposedly make their own dressings but maybe they shouldn't, there was no flavor. I'm not sure I'd bring kids to eat here just bc it's a bar with tables. This was not designed to be a family restaurant. Staff was pleasant enough but not enough to encourage me to come here again. They do seem like they are very active in the community though. Their wall was covered with relay for life stuff and other acknowledgements/recognitions. Kudos for that I guess.

This place is a staple in the Olympia area - and it took me a REALLY long time to finally try it. And, (don't be mad) all I had was a sammich! Look, I LOVE sammiches...like REALLY love them, and luckily this area is filled with amazing places to grab a good one. I got the Jake by recommendation - and I was not disappointed. Ham, salami and pepperoni - toasty from the oven and topped with fresh veggies...what's not to like? It wasn't better than any sammich I've ever had - but, it was good and I'd order it again. The place seemed a little dark, a little dingy, and a little in disrepair - so, I'm not sure this would be my first choice for a date night, but rather, I'd probably order to go in the future.

I was very pleasantly surprised at how good the Gay 90s Pizza was. Cashews go very nicely with sausage & pepperoni. We also had the Mexican pizza and that wasn't as good but still good.

Really great Pizza! Loved the atmosphere- table & booth layout gives one some privacy, and there was no cranked-up, loud music playing to kill the conversation! Great evening!

Went here yesterday for a work meeting. My co-worker was raving about the Jake sandwich so I tried it. The flavor was good, but the bread got so soggy from the lettuce. I don't think I'd order that again. The pizza crust is pretty good. It's thin... and has a unique flavor. Last, the salad bar plates are too small. I had veggies falling off my plate because there wasn't enough room.

We had never been but decided to try it because a friend recommended it. The place has a fantastic old dive feel and was great! My husband had the salad bar and we shared a pepperoni pizza. He loved that the salad bar was back to the basics, not all new age "eating weeds out of your yard" type crap. The pizza had a great flavor, but we love the thicker crusts and this was so thin you could barely hold the toppings on it. My girls had the spaghetti with marinara sauce and the ham and cheese sandwich. The spaghetti was something like we could get at home, which was nice, and the most amazing part of our food there was that ham and cheese sandwich! It was perfect. If you go there....choose that first!!!! Overall, we liked the place and the food and will be heading back soon.

  • Katie B.

The gluten free pizza is awful. Not only is the crust just super bland and floppy and cardboard-y, but the cheese was not very good and the vegetables didn't taste anywhere near fresh. Also way over priced for the quality. Very disappointing. This place was recommended to me as a local favorite but I don't think I'll go again. There is excellent gluten free pizza elsewhere in Olympia.

LOCAL FAVORITE. Don't know how this place could ever get bad reviews. The "Jake" sandwich is one of the best in town, and they have an awesome lunch special that offers their pizza and all you can eat salad bar.

Man this place is the best!! I really love he jake sandwich!! If your in Lacey stop by for the best pizza and the best sandwiches ever!!!!

I have been going here for many years. There's nothing quite like Dirty Dave's anywhere, and I've been all over the country. Last time I went there I ordered a giant pepperoni pizza and ate the whole thing. That's how good it is. I live out of town now in California, and nothing there even comes close.

Meh, not impressed. Dark, dingy interior, blah food and overrun with children. Upon entering Dirty Dave's, it almost feels like you've entered the Twilight Zone and ended up in a pizza parlor of yesteryear. The walls are covered with pop culture memorabilia from the 70's, 80's, & 90's, and the look, feel, and smell of the place awakens childhood memories of birthday parties from decades past. Even the real-time outside world is kept at bay due to the lack of natural light inside. This is not a full service restaurant: place your order at the front counter and when your name is called return to the front so a staff member can follow you back to your table with the food. We each ordered salad bar ($6.50) and shared a medium veggie pizza ($16). The salad bar was one of the saddest I've ever seen: a bulk iceberg salad mix (that probably comes straight out of a 10lb bag) and a dozen or so containers of toppings, most of which are from bulk cans. The pizza wasn't a whole lot better: a crisp, thin crust with sauce (that tastes like it came from a can as well), mozzarella, and the same canned toppings that are on the salad bar. Tip: if you're going to order both a pizza and salad bar, don't pay for any of the veggie toppings for the pizza; just get the exact same peperoncinis, olives, etc. on a salad plate and sprinkle some on top of a cheese pizza. Pretty sure that's what they do in the kitchen, anyway. I had been looking forward to trying out Dirty Dave's for awhile-- it's one of those classic restaurants that has been around forever so I figured they must be doing something right. Well, they do cater to large family gatherings and kids' birthday parties/sports teams so I guess they're doing that right. They've even got some old games and novelty toy vending machines for the kiddos, too. Curiosity and nostalgia sated, I doubt I'll be returning here any time soon. There are just too many better pizza joints around.

This was a fun place suggested as a meeting place when my cousins came up for a trip. It was nice because the kids could go play and not be too far while the bigger kids could socialize and consume beverages. I really enjoy a thin crust pizza and am not a fan of heavy sauce so this was super delicious in my book. My husband prefers a thicker crust and a lot more sauce so he was a little less impressed, but liked the variety of offerings. We will go back!

I have not had pizza for a while so when I asked my aunt what pizza place she would recommend, she readily said Dirty Dave's. First impression was that this is a hole-in-the-wall kind of place that might have been a gas station restaurant before. And that is NOT a bad statement either! You know, the kind of place where "everybody knows your name"? It is VERY "homey." When I went in, I noticed that the customers were either retired/close to being one OR young kids who have not yet reached their teens. This is definitely not your typical yuppie, Starbucks-going crowd. My aunt and her husband ordered the Combination Pizza minus the anchovies. It having cheese, I just tried a very small slice and it was good! I, on the other hand, ordered the Gay 90's Pizza sans cheese. I mean, c'mon! with a name like that? It's practically screaming HAPPY! :P This is the first time I've had cashews in my pizza and quite honestly, I'm still on the fence whether I like it or not. As a snack, I love cashews but I haven't made up my mind if I like them on my pizza though. One MAJOR complaint though was that my pizza's thin crust was not CONSISTENTLY crispy. I almost always anticipate that when a pizza crust is thin, it SHOULD BE crispy. Well SOME parts of my crust were, while the rest weren't. This definitely puts a damper of my "pizza happiness" that night. Overall, the pizza that lends its name to this establishment didn't disappoint. Was it GREAT? I wouldn't go that far but definitely different. And "different" is good right? :P TIP: When you come in Martin Way looking for a place to park your car as soon as you enter the parking lot, LOOK at the left side parking spaces BEFORE you actually TURN left. If there are no parking spaces on the left side, you will have to GET OUT of the parking lot and TO THE STREET before you can come back in the lot!

Great ambiance! You come in, find a table, and go up to order. The pizza and salad bar are great, and the sandwiches looked really delicious- but definitely try to steamers or the spaghetti with clams!! Sooo good!

Great place to bring kids. Great place to bring adults too! I like the pizza it's no frills down to earth pie. I have a great time every time I come here. Pizza, beer, video games, what more do you need in life? Even though I didn't grow up in Olympia Dirty Dave's makes me feel like a kid coming back to my favorite pizza parlor. I love a time capsulesque pizza joint!

Was skeptical at trying it at first. But was very satisfied with the pizza. The place itself seems a little run down and old. The decorations are a bit old too. But if you can look past all that, the pizza is great and worth a try.

Just stopped by after the birth of my son and still had the sticker on from the hospital. They comped me a giant pizza and a soda as a congratulations. The best customer service anywhere! Would recommend the highly. Great service but the food is even better!

OK I can't give this 4.5 stars like I would like. REALLY good pizza, but a great atmosphere that is in the best tradition of ex-biker bar stuff all over the walls pizza parlors. When I was a kid (a LONG time ago) Dirty Dave's was over on Pacific (it moved when the city widened the road and took out their parking). It was smaller then, and there were less than child friendly pictures of women under the glass on the counter of the bar if I remember correctly. It has come a long way from the biker/counter culture pizza place it was then. But I still love it.

Reasons I like Dirty Dave's. A. I can never say your name right. It normally comes out "Dirty Gay Dave's" or "Gay Dave's Dirty Pizza" which I know neither is right but sounds awfully funny. B. You have Cashew Pizza. This means you've got gumption. We here in this family like gumption. C. You laugh at my jokes. D. You have carbs. It's not even food anymore. It's lovely, lovely carbs. E. I like your décor. It's a bit funny, a bit rustic, and a bit 90's. Reasons I don't like Dirty Dave's. A. You will not move into my home and feed me and solely me. B. You actually have a closing time. It may be 11, but you should NEVER close. C.You're not really "Dirty" as the name implies. I'm kinda okay with this, so it goes on both my like and dislike lists. D. You probably won't let me live in the restaurant. I promise I'm clean. I'll climb into the sanitation sink for my showers and just hide under the salad bar. *Disclaimer: This review may be slightly biased considering that I have sat staring at my fiancée's full bread basket of delicious, golden brown, buttery garlic bread last night which I shouldn't have touched because I can't fit into my wedding dress properly, but touched anyways because it's just so damn good. Either way, if you're travelling through or a fellow neighbor, you should try this place out. I've not been disappointed.

I love this place. I gave it 4 stars because sometimes the pizza has black burnt dough in the bottom of the pizza and the workers seem a bit stiff. We love the cashew, pepperoni, and sausage pizza, just yummy. The salad bar is soooo good. I've been coming to this pizza place since I was a kid, now I bring my kids who just think it's the best. Kids definitely run about, but that's what makes it a true family experience.

3 1/2 stars? Seriously? Making this extra low to bring the average down. The salad bar looked wilted and the deep dish was über greasy. The spaghetti was unpleasant. I was happy with the $1.75 well Oly. (Trying to find something to be positive about)...

Went with a group of friends. Some had been there before but most had not. Group consensus was not favorable. Service was slow and inefficient. Quality of food was below average. I was definitely not impressed. I felt that we did not get value for what we paid.

Its decent pizza and is an icon for pizza in the Lacey/Oly community since my early high school days. They are well known for supporting the community and for that I support them. If you don't order a pizza, try the Jake sandwich.

I love the atmosphere of this place and all the wall decor. I ordered the BBQ chicken pizza, it was decent. The server was super friendly and nice. The boyfriend order pepperoni, he devoured his. I would definitely come back here for a couple brewskis and pizza.

  • Breezy M.

I won't be going back. Which is really a shame, since I've been a customer of theirs for long. I got a pizza that was cold when they brought it to me, boyfriend got a sammie that was soggie, and their "salad bar" costs $7. Beyond that, the staff was rude. If I want snobbery with my meal, I'll go downtown, thank you.

  • Reema S.

Nice thin crispy pizza crust but downside is that it isn't as filling. Sauce is seriously under-salted/under seasoned. Prices are a good value for the pizza size. They are liberal with the amount of topping on the pizza which is great. Add some flavor and have a thicker crust option, and I'd give it 5 star!

Good consistent pizza. Super friendly staff. Gets crazy busy on Fridays but worth it.

An Island in the ocean! A Rock in the sea! I've been going to Dirty Dave's since 1985. They're always consistent. You know before you get your meal what your going to get. Almost like being psychic! Great spaghetti, great sauce, great pizza, Just a great place for anyone at any time. For service and quality, one of the best places in town!

Outstanding pizza, Jake sandwiches, steamer clams, and salad bar! The atmosphere is fantastic from the posters everywhere on the walls and ceiling. There staff is very eclectic and fun. Eaten here for over 35 years and NEVER had bad food or a bad experience. The father set the tone of the restaurant and the son has just kept the ball rolling. Never pass up your chance to stop by, you won't regret it!

My favorite pizza place since moving to WA , 3 years ago. Originally stopped in at lunch for their personal pizza and salad bar combo -- good price! Pizza was yummy AND they use corn meal under the crust... which almost seems impossible to find atound here. Place has a Def pizzeria feel to it... comfortable, a bit worn, and relaxed.

  • Joshua N.

They need to stick to pizza. The sauce tasted very basic, very watered down. Meatballs didn't have enough seasoning. On the bright side, there pizza is some of the best I've had.

Way too loud and the pizza was sub-par

Love it and so does the whole family. Only one of two pizza joints we all agree on! Love the old school feel and the pizza is light n crispy and the flavor is awesome. Totally go if you like a nostalgic feel and tasty pizza.

I went on a night when I was part of a party of ~100 people. The servers were quick and friendly. The food wait wasn't as bad as I was expecting considering the size of the party.

  • Scott S.

Best pizza in Olympia hands down. Gay 90s special with cashews and of course you're obligated to get an Oly beer. So good. I stop by every time I'm in town. Better if you eat it there; pizza is never as good after steam baking in a cardboard box for 15 minutes. Keep in mind you order and pay before you sit down. Kind of a pain if you want more than one beer, but whatever. So long as they don't change that pizza. Also, btw, I also live in New York City and yeah they have awesome pizza, but while different Dirty Dave's is still great. Ease off the uppity "I'm from NYC and anyone that has never lived there doesn't know pizza" crap and try it out with an open mind. Also fwiw, the awful coffee in NYC doesn't make up for the good pizza.

This was my high school stomp 20 years ago and we still return when back in town. Absolutely love the special pizza and the Jakes grinder. Best pizza in town!

  • Oly G.

Love this place. I have been a customer for almost 30 years. It's my favorite pizza in Oly. It's all about the thin crust. Gay 90's special. Mmmmmmm. Great little salad bar too.

  • Wild F.

I love the funky atmosphere of this place! so much to look at on the walls. The pizza is delicious also. you pay when you order which is nice because you dont have to wait for a check at the end...but annoying if you want another beer or something.

My Dad loves this place. Our family frequents it as many as 50 times/year for the past 35 years. However, my attendance is much much lower. Why? It may be a solid family establishment but my tastes in cusine don't agree with pretty much anything on the menu. The Jake is an average sandwich *at best*. Don't even bother ordering it for someone at home it won't preserve very well. Went through a period of expansion about 15 years ago and my thought is the flag store on Martin Way is the only one performing. WOOD-FIRE PIZZA NEEDED... you snooze you lose. I've moved on to a better pizza. ...Misses the days when the piano was played and a few more patrons came in strictly for beers.

I saw the commercial for Dirty Daves while watching SOA, so I thought I would try it. Bad idea I should have read the reviews first!!!! My hubby and I had the large pizza and went home hungry. Its basically a tortilla with some sauce and a crazy combo of toppings. I won't be going back but good job with the commercial it got me in.

    (1)
  • Gerald C.

Amazing food!! Had the combination pizza and it's one of the best pizza's I've had in this area. Customer Service could be improved.

Best Pizza in town. Nice crispy crust...not a bunch of dough. Light on the sauce...who wants a mouthful of tomato paste. Service is always A+.

  • Brenda B.

Wow. Worst pizza I've ever tasted. Went here for a friend's birthday as a first timer and ordered the combination pizza to share with my fiance. I should have read the menu closer! Big mistake! I could have dealt with shrimp and green olives on a pizza, probably, if it were done well. But, this was just sad. For the price we paid, I would expect a solid amount of toppings. Instead what we got was a "design" of toppings which left much to be desired. Who only puts one ring of pepperoni around a pizza? The sausage was the only "good" thing I can choose from the pizza. The rest was salad shrimp, canned mushrooms (what?! Gordon Ramsey would loose his mind), and green olives that looked like there were found in a jar in some grandmother's Cold War survival bunker. I enjoy thin crust pizza, but what I don't enjoy is my thin crust pizza tasting like a cardboard tortilla. We left disappointed and hungry. On top of that, the servers were exceptionally rude. They just obviously didn't care at all. We had a large group there for a party and the host had reserved one of the private rooms. A friend eating with me ordered a side of ranch and when it didn't arrive with his pizza, he mentioned it to the server. Her response was a shrug of her shoulders paired with "i dunno, did you order it?". Our group was sternly chastised by another staff member for starting to move a table. He could have politely asked us not to move to furniture and pointed out the sign, but instead we got "you guys can't move the tables! There's a sign in here and outside the room". With walls covered in signs, how is anyone to notice the ones that actually apply? Overall, just bad. What a shame, cause it seemed like such a fun place.

  • Matt S.

Went there to try for the first time ask the server what the best sandwich was and he recommended the jakes there was not very much meat on it and a lot of vinegar on it my fiancé has the salad bar all u can eat the plates where very small for a salad bar and when she was done we had to ask for a clean plate when we sat at the bar and they didn't remove the dirty dishes when there was about 5 employees standing behind the bar the whole time. I would not go back

  • Tina N.

This is not pizza, this is sauce and cheese on a tortilla. Listen, I'm originally from the east coast, New York specifically, so I understand I have higher expectations of pizza than most people but this was seriously gross. Like really really gross. The crust was incredibly bad, like really really bad. I've never had a worst crust in my life! I brought home the extra pizza because I hate being wasteful, but I ended up throwing it out anyway because it was just too gross. I really have no idea how this place stays in business. I will never ever eat here again.

This is amazingly good thin crust pizza. I've been going since a kid, moved all over the state and keep coming back. The atmosphere has cleaned up in a good way, very entertaining to but just tried the cashew pizza. Wow, a great combo. It's so family perfect.

    (5)
  • Alex S.

I'll give it two stars, because the service was fast & friendly, and the atmosphere was pretty cool. Unfortunately, the pizza was downright awful. We had the BBQ chicken pizza. The crust was dry, the BBQ sauce was sickly sweet, and the chicken was in weird, flavorless cubes. We'd been told this was the best pizza in Olympia, but honestly, I've had better frozen pizzas.

Favorite pizza place in the area. Crust is thin and crispy. Meat is super good. Love the ambience so relaxed and fun. Great for date night or dinner out with the family.

This pizza is always a good stand by. Not my favorite pizza in town but it is a choice we make when we want something above Dominoes but dont want to pay Farelli's prices. Good sauce, good crust, decent toppings but not a lot of gourmet choices. Salad bar is all you can eat, instead of offering one time through, which is always a bummer for me. I dont want to pay 6.99 to gorge myself on salad, I just want to get a little plate so I can some greens in before my pizza. The inside of the restaurant is a bit of a dive. We usually get pizza to go and pick it up at their drive up window which is very convenient. People working there are usually very nice and efficient.

    (3)
  • Greg S.

I guess you'll love it or hate it. I love it. If you like thick doughy crust this ain't for you, try dominoes or brewery city. This crust is stupid thin, and tough. Try the Gay 90s. Or if you aren't man enuff, the Jake sandwich.

  • Greg S.

Remember going here as a kid and losing my mind when finding out they served cashews on pizza! pretty much the only pizza parlor in town that still has an arcade. Miss these types of places.

Simply the BEST PIZZA in the HISTORY of the world! The Gay 90s special is the Holy Grail of pizzas. I used to enjoy these when Dave was down in Redlands, California. He moved north about 30 years ago, if I recall and I've been diligently searching for something as good since--including the pizzeria in SF ranked the best in the US...ain't nothing as good as Dave's. It's worth a flight up from CA for one. The brilliant marrying of pepperoni, sausage, onions and cashews (yeh, that's right! Cashews) is perfection.

    (5)
  • Jim F.

I like the Gay 90s special pizza with the cashews on it. That's all I ever order in there, except for a dark beer to wash it down. I first had that pizza at the Gay 90s pizza parlor in Redlands, CA when I was in high school, so it's the pizza of memory for me. Dave moved the restaurant and the family to Olympia in about 1972. The place is family friendly, but it's also comfortable to go solo and eat at the bar.

Fantastic meatball sandwich. Pizza was great, too. I love the old school pizza like we used to get as kids. It is not fine dining, just a great casual pizza and beer joint.

  • Blossom K.

I love the crust of the pizza. I usually don't eat it but I love theirs. I also had meat sauce spaghetti, it wasn't fancy at all but tasted like one from old mama's kitchen. Really enjoyed it. Homely comfort food :)

My family has been going to Dirty Dave's since the 70's. I can't rate the pizza because we usually go there for the Jake sandwich. The pizza is all right I guess. The service we have gotten has always been cheery and prompt. If it is a busy day and it will be a decent wait for your food, staff will let you know. No one has seemed to mention Dirty Dave's pick up window. They have take away service courtesy of a pick up window located on the side of the building. You can order pasta, sandwiches, and pizza. If you want to buy soda it will come in two liter bottles. All you need to do is call ahead of time for your order. My rating is less about the food and more about Dirty Dave's suitability for family events. My family has always reserved a room in Dirty Dave's for laid back kid's birthdays. They don't care if you bring in tons of cake or if you are loud as long as you don't move the tables around. This is a great place for a large crowd with lots of kids. Bring rolls of quarters and tote bags because younguns will try to empty out all of the plastic eggs from the chicken machine. Adult groups are fun too. Some of my out of town buddies were in the area and we decided to gather our local friends and go to Dirty Dave's. Most of them had never been there before. They described it lovingly as "A great ghetto pizza joint." The pizza got mixed reviews, but everyone seemed to like the pasta dishes, the sandwiches, and the steamed clams.

In a city begging for better restaurants, Dirty Dave's stands out as an argument for independence. It's a great pizza that reminds me of the once popular Pietro's. Spicy meat toppings, crisp crust and even some unique toppings like cashews on your pizza. They have a decent salad bar, hearty chili and the sandwiches as are impressive. You want to know how fresh and flavorful the pie is...? Good enough for me to drive all the way from Seattle to pick up a pie.

  • Ross B.

These guys have excellent sandwiches and really cool decor inside. The only downside is that it's a family establishment so people have a tendency to bring their kids there. Other than that it's pretty rad!

Fun family atmosphere. Arcade games to play. Salad bar is decent. Pizza is a little greasy. But good.

  • Kelsey C.

Love dirty dave's. I ate it all the time growing up. The crispy crust is unparalleled, and pizzas are always piping hot. The taco pizza is always great, but you can't beat a pepperoni. The house made bleu cheese dressing is also good. Since indoor smoking was banned the haze cleared out and they realized they needed to clean the place up- which they have. It's a dive, and a great one at that.

It is nice to find an old fashioned family joint that is still in business AND doing a booming business. This is not one of our "usual" places to go but we received a gift card from our kids so decided to give it a try. The wife had a full meatball sandwich which she devoured. Gotta give it 5 stars. Since I wasn't up for anything that had any red sauce or spiciness to it today, I decided on the roast beef and cheese sub. I expected better. Don't get me wrong, the sandwich tasted great...but I ordered roast beef and 3 MICRO thin pieces do not qualify it IMHO as a roast beef sandwich. I was expecting meat and cheese in the Meconi quantity range...heck, I get more meat on an Arby's sandwich. I give it 3 stars. I love the energy, the service and the atmosphere so I've got to give it 4 stars overall.

Made a return trip with the grandkids for lunch. The pizza was absolutely delicious. My granddaughter had spaghetti and loved it. The order was taken correctly even with three grandchildren constantly changing their minds. Food order came fairly fast. Service was extremely efficient. We will definitely be back on our next trip to Washington.

I come here a lot because I like the pizza. I order the Meat lover's since I am not much of a veggie person. The crust is super thin and has just the right amount of sauce and cheese. The crust is crispy like a thin crust should be and not overwhelmed with toppings and sauce, truly how pizza should be. Not like Pizza Hut or Domino's. This place is dimly lit and decorated with old memorabilia of just about anything and everything. Reminds me of childhood pizzerias.
