The food is delicious! Specially the lamp chop! Amazing! Also the local beer is pretty good too, highly recommend to eat in here.

Staff great! My husband said the lamb chops were great. My pork tenderloin were not tenderloin at all! They were thin cut pork chops! Yes, $22.00 for thin cut pork chops! A rip off! Probably won't visit again!

John's Grill is a local favorite with nice ambiance and a low-key crowd. We had the Lamb Chops and Crab Cake, both entrées. While the lamb was a bit tough, it had good flavor and made a nice dinner. The Crab Cake came with gushing recommendation from our server, but not much in the way of either crab or flavor. Not being fans of chocolate or the industrial graham-cracker'd key lime pie, we had a desert elsewhere.

Love the crab cake, very moist, lamb chop n steak was outstanding, waitress is very friendly, def come back!

Great food, excellent service! Small, locally owned restaurant in the heart of Old Town in Mukilteo, near the ferry. I went for Happy Hour and make sure to have their crab cakes-best I've ever had! I had their steak and it was delicious. It's a great place to go for a date night or other special occasion.

Great Food as usual. We come here quite often, my husband & I. We were here in April, brought our teenage son. Now we're back. We are never dissapointed. This time, I tried Lamb Chops, it was Awesome. My husband had the Filet Mignon, that was so good too. I had the Wine Flight. The M100 Red Blend was perfect with my dinner.

  • Corey P.

First time visitor and the wife and I both ordered the filet mignon and it tasted great and the server was very tentative. The complaints we had were the portion size of potatoes and the vegetables were very lacking, but I went there for the beef, not the side dishes and left satisfied.

Early Thursday night dinner. Free order of Polenta Sticks with Check-In was nice. Crab cake huge with good filling however a lot of crust/breading to get through. All in all a very nice meal and will be back

Fantastic food. Great place. If you want dessert, the caramel brownie sundae will blow your socks off. Vegetables are garden fresh, portions are great, and the presentation was excellent. It's snooty, but in a casual way, and the place has serious character. I wore jeans and felt right at home. Reservations recommended, it's a small restaurant. Great spot for a special occasion dinner. Two drinks apiece, appetizer (dude, get the crab cake), main course, and two desserts was $130. We'll definitely be back.

Yummy steak salad for me and steak kebobs for my daughter. Next time the ferry line is too long and we'd rather have dinner than wait in line, we'll be back!

This family-owned restaurant is just a couple of miles from my home and although I'm not a regular, I've dined here at least 20 times since 2006 as it's good place for a nicer business dinner with a few guests. The distance to where I work and live and convenient parking are big factors. They bill themselves as a steak and seafood restaurant but there are far fewer seafood choices and most of them are shrimp, scallop, or squid. There aren't standard menu items for local seafood such as oysters, mussels, salmon, halibut, rockfish, or cod. (See for yourself here johnsgrillmukilteo.com/m… ). It's too bad because we have so much good seafood here year round. There are occasional seafood specials but in my experience they are almost always shellfish. (If you want fish, go down the hill a couple blocks to Ivar's.) The food at John's Grill is good quality and the chef/owner does a pretty good, consistent job. The meals are straightforward and generally well-prepared. It can be hard to find something light on the menu and butter is heavily used. It's usually delicious but more standard fish items and lighter sides would be nice additions to the menu. The service can be excellent but the other owner Lisa who also serves seems to have frequent bad days and it shows in her service. They have had a lot of turnover through the years and I have had great service there but if Lisa is waiting tables sometimes it can really affect your experience negatively. This is my rationale for 3 stars. Overall, this is a good restaurant. Good quality, fairly expensive but when when everything is working well, you may have a 4-star experience (for Mukilteo).

Came here with some coworkers after a meeting in the Rosehill Community Center. This place was close and convenient. I would definitely recommend this place for a date night - close, intimate, and fairly quiet gathering. The waitress seated us and then reseated us when she realized we had more people coming. She was nice about it. Very accommodating and friendly. She made excellenet recommendations on what to order. The food here was amazing. The drinks were delicious. It is not that hard to screw up a dirty vodka martini but it can be ruined. They did an excellent job. I appreciated the fact they didn't carry the cheap, light fluid vodka that burns your nose when you sniff it. Will definitely come here with my husband for date night. Great romantic atmosphere paired with outdoor seating and view of the Puget Sound. What more can you ask for when it is paired with delicious food and excellent service?

I really liked the food at John's Grill, and I'll admit I'm a foodie so things like presentation matter to me in addition to atmosphere and food quality. If your comparing this food to rest of offerings nearby this wins hands down. The food was definitely 4-5 stars, location was nice and window seats are the best. Calamari app wasn't all that special or memorable, reminds me of exact same order at Cheesecake Factory. Special was off the charts: In-season halibut wrapped in prosciutto with asparagus and fetticini. Things to improve: 1) Never ever attach menu additions with a clip to the menu, it's just tacky. Laminating your cocktail menu, also not the best. 2) Wait staff could have been more attentive on plates we had finished and taken them away. Note: Originally gave this review 4 stars but after seeing their video and realizing it a local staple and long time family run business they get an extra star; restaurants aren't easy.

This is a quaint little restaurant in Mukilteo where I live. It seems like a good place to bring a date. Had the standard utensil set up, dinner fork, salad fork, dinner knife, and soup spoon, and cloth lap napkin. I ordered the 14oz New York Steak topped with caramelized onions and Roquefort dressing. This comes with "potato du'jour and seasonal vegetables". The steak came to me perfectly cooked to my order. It tasted very good, though there were the occasionally chewy bit which was a put off. Steak didn't seem aged at all, though they never claimed that it was, this was a $33 entree, so in my opinion this wasn't a $33 steak. The vegetables were not anything to write home about either, they did seem fresh, and the potatoes seemed like they were missing something, I tend to not like naked potatoes. The only thing on them was salt and pepper. Both were very small portions. There was a salad fork in the setting, so a small simple salad with a home made dressing would have made me feel better about spending $33 on it. For desert I had a "blueberry crisp" with vanilla ice cream. Unfortunately they really fell down here. First off it was nearly $8, secondly there wasn't anything crisp about this, it reminded me of what happens when you reheat a crisp in a microwave. It was rather soggy, and the nuts that were in the topping came out chewy, which made me guess they reheated this in a microwave. Not worth $8. Service was good, I did have to ask the first time for a refill on my ice tea, but after that it was always full.

My favorite place to eat since our first trip 2 years ago. We've been at least once a month and try to bring guests with us who have never been before. We've never been disappointed, everything we've tried has been amazing, fresh, and flavorful. Our guests always enjoy themselves and many tell me they have gone back and tell their friends as well.

We went for our anniversary dinner and were very pleased. I read through the yelp reviews and the things that caught my attention from the reviews were: local source for ingredients, chef is the owner and their family runs the restaurant, small. I havent spent much time in mukilteo, and when I clicked through the photos on yelp the restaurant looked to be apart of a strip mall (bummer) BUT it wasn't, the restaurant is connected to a couple other boutique type stores but the setting was very nice and not strip mallish at all. As for the pictures of the interior on yelp, they are correct, and I was a bit "well this doesn't seem to romantic" but again, once we stepped into the restaurant it was very nice. The photos dont do this place justice. The food was excellent, I followed other reviewers and got the fresh halibut wrapped in prosciutto, it was amazing. My wife ordered the seafood linguini and was raving about it. We also shared an appetizer of fried calamari which was the best calamari we've ever had (crispy and the breading is just amazing, very savory with a little bit of a bite). We were very happy to give this place a shot and we will be back. The only thing I'd point out is the restaurants hours, they close at 9pm, I am not sure if that is the last time they will seat someone or if that is when the kitchen closes, but it seemed like everyone else who was dining knew for we were the last table to leave (we weren't rushed out, nor did we feel like we were being pushed out, but we did notice the emptying of the place). So I mention this for anyone who thinks they might be there close to 9pm to inquire w/ the restaurant about the specifics). Our lasting impression was: Excellent food, great pricing, and very nice ambiance. We felt it was on par with nice places in downtown Seattle with a nicer price tag and much closer to home (and easier parking).

Lamb chops were awesome, the king salmon was very good. Don't be in a hurry, food takes a while,, but worth it. Not much in the way of beer, nice wine list.

What a great experience! It's a great family run business. John is the owner and chef. The wife makes the desserts. And the daughter is the waitress. Everything is made from scratch. We ate: Calamari - it was cooked and seasoned perfectly, not chewy at all Polenta sticks (free with yelp check in) King salmon special Lamb chops Beef stroganoff Everything was delicious! I had the salmon. What a huge portion! Sauce was perfect; not too sweet. It came with lots of roe on top. The veggies were cooked perfectly. The fettuccini was tasty even with the red chili flakes; spicy but good. Hubby said his lamb with potatoes was some of the best he's ever had. I'm not a fan of it, so I'll trust his judgment. And the stroganoff -- I wish I'd ordered it. The steak was tender, but the sauce was to die for. Then we had one of each dessert: espresso chocolate torte (special), blueberry-peach crisp (also a special), the brownie, and the black-and-white mousse. The best dessert was the brownie! That was so fresh and moist. I don't usually like brownies, but this is something I'd go back for especially since it has caramel sauce (made there). The mousse was excellent too. Not too sweet either. Lastly, the service was wonderful. She was so concerned that the torte might have other nuts in it besides almonds (I'm allergic to walnuts and pecans). She called her mom at home to make sure she didn't add any other nuts. You just don't find service that good in many places. And I loved overhearing the server tell another guest that any of the rises would be altered according to tastes since it's all freshly made to order. When was the last time you heard that. Is it expensive? Sort of, but the quality of the food and how it's cooked are worth every penny. I wish we didn't live so far away, but my in-laws are locals and will be back often (I'm jealous! I'll have to wait until next summer to return).

Worst service I think we have ever had. Took the waitress at least 10 minutes to even acknowledge that we were there. Just kept walking by without saying anything. Food was decent. I got the filet mignon and my boyfriend got the 14oz New York. Both steaks had no flavor but we could tell it was quality meat. The garlic potatoes on the other hand were delicious. For the price of the experience we were expecting a higher quality of customer service. We probably will not be returning.

We ventured to John's based on Yelp reviews but we had moderate expectations. We found the intimate little place in old town Mukilteo but without a water view. Strangely, the place was steady but not overly busy. Based on the quality of the food, this is surprising. We started out with the crabcakes (actually 1). It was terrific. Light, fluffy texture w/ plenty of crab. I haven't had one quite like it. Definitely better than I expected. For entrees, I ordered the NY steak prepared with peppercorn mushroom sauce. The steak was cooked medium rare as ordered. The steak was juicy and flavorful Not as tender as I'd hoped for but not bad. My wife had the filet prepared with the carmelized onions and roquefort dressing. Unbelievable! It was really good. Very tender, very good flavor. Definitely the standout entree. We will definitely go back. We will both order the filet.

As always John never disappoints! LeeAnn and I needed to cut loose and celebrate her positive job interview with the local school district. Enjoyed a beautiful day in paradise with a window table at Johns! Checked in on yelp and were given a complimentary polenta appetizer! On to the house salad with blu cheese! The beef stroganoff was flavorful with tender slices of perfectly seasoned meat paired with a couple glasses of Zin. Her fresh king salmon was the special and the take home box was not needed by either of us! Our favorite place. Nina was a great attentive server. Thanks John & Lisa, The 5 stars is a perfect 10 with us!

My father and step-mother had their reception for their very small wedding here in August. By all accounts, the special they had that day - salmon and asparagus - was delicious. However, I ordered the filet mignon after it had come very highly recommended by several others at the table, and it was awful. I ordered it rare and received it VERY well done. Not even a hint of pink in that meat. It was chewy and horrible. As it was a wedding reception, I opted not to raise a fuss and ruin everyone else's meal, but it's definitely the last time I'll eat there. I was also pretty generally unimpressed with the waitress who was tending to us. From what I've been told, they're usually much better, but serving very overcooked steak that costs $30 is pretty poor form. I won't chance it again.

I worked with John's wife, Lisa, to set up a dinner for some execs at my company. She was always professional, friendly, and fast with her responses. We even added an extra need, a cake. The execs ate at John's Grill last night and said the food was great and that the staff was awesome. They also said the cake was the best they had ever eaten! THANK YOU SO MUCH John's Grill! I will be recommending, and scheduling, your place again!

Very nice (but VERY small) restaurant. They only have about ten tables, so you might be out of luck if you don't have a reservation. The food was outstanding but quite pricey. I took my sister for her birthday, so I expected to spend some money :) Everything was good, and it was a special occasion, so it was worth it. The chef really knows his stuff! The owner's son was our server, and he was very friendly and helpful. Since I had read previous Yelp reviews, I had to try the crab cake and the beef stroganoff. Both were excellent and I would order them again. This is a great place, not cheap - but I think it's worth it to find good quality dining, plus I am more than happy to support a local, family business. We are definitely going back !

i cannot say enough about John's. The recipes are crafted by someone who is passionate about cooking and food, it shows. Every time we come in, is better than the last. I think i can easily say John's is the best restaurant in Mukilteo and probably one of my favorites of all time. It's pricy but for special occasions, very well worth it. Keep it up, Johns. I really appreciate your fine work.

Picked for a special occasion, as others have stated it is cozy. Wait person didn't ask if we wanted an app or salad, and we were focused on the entrees. Only after ordering did we realize we forgot, so salad came late. I had NY steak, wife had scallops wrapped in bacon. I wished I had ordered that. Steak was o.k., not much flavor other than the pepper. Not chefs fault but after tasting scallops I wished I had ordered them. Dessert was brownie caramel thing that was outstanding. Drinks were strong, no complaint.

Enjoyed our recent dinner there, starting with the complimentary rosemary sourdough & finishing with her stroganoff & my seafood linguine. The mojito's were smooth & the service timely & pleasant. I would agree with some other reviews re its limitations relative to the pricing yet would still recommend you trying it out for yourselves.

Tries to hard to be hip. This place is ok. Not impressed with the meal. Prices were a bit high. Seemed like a chef's presentation on a Ramsey show where they are showing off their plating skills and look vs letting the food speak for itself. The running joke is... "Is it open"? Every time we drive by, its closed.

This place is simply great! We made a reservation, but an emergency came up and we weren't sure if we could make it at first, so we cancelled it...ended up showing around the same time and although they were busy, they made it their priority to help us get a good seat :) The food was DELICIOUS! My bf and I came here for our anniversary and we got the crab cake to share as an appetizer and it was amazing! crispy on the outside, and filled with real-fresh crab. It was huge too! I got the beef stroganoff for my entree, and it was probably the best stroganoff I've ever had. The meat was SOO incredibly tender and the sauce was too die for. Service was great, atmosphere was perfect, and the food was delicious! We'll definitely be back :D

This place was such a great place for my gf and I. We loved their rosemary starter bread. Then I had a pomegranate martini that was the best I ever had. So smooth and their homemade sweet and sour. Their crab cake was AMAZING! It was light and airy and the marmalade on top was a little spicy but not overpowering. Over all it was a great experience.

This is the best restaurant in Snohomish County. Period. The cuisine is exceptional. The calamari appetizer is the best I have ever had anywhere. The steak is on par with the best steakhouses in the country. It is not inexpensive, but not unreasonable, and worth every penny!

"Ooo, we should go there." "That place looks cool." "I hear they have an interesting menu." "Are we EVER going there?!" Last night, after finding a jam-packed Diamond Knot (dang you, "Tight Wad Tuesdays"!!), we decided to FINALLY make a stop up the hill in Old Town Mukilteo at John's Grill. The location is new and the space is certainly cool, posh, and chill. I liked the art they had hung. For some reason I kept diving into the painting of a 70's muscle car. After a rough day (backed up sewer, drive over Scary Snoqualmie, and not eating the whole day), I was ready to get my eat on. They only had two brews on tap, so I had the Diamond Knot IPA (bro had the Manny's & my future sister had the house red). For an appetizer we had Polenta sticks. I didn't know what polenta was, but it was seasoned well and the it tasted good with the Roquefort sauce. For the entree, I was torn between several (somewhat pricey) dishes. I ended up going with the most expensive (deserved it after the wacked day I had AND since my bro was payin!): Filet Mignon cooked with peppercorn. I loved my meal. The meat was succulent (I had it cooked medium well, instead of the "burnt to a crisp" I usually go for), and head-spinningly good. It was served with asparagus & small potatoes. I snuck bites from my bro's NY Steak (yum), and sister's Pork Tenderloin (SNAP! The sauce was good on this one! {this was one of my other choices}). Our server was nice and we were digging the atmosphere, even if it did feel a bit hawty tawty (I was dressed for a pub!). John's Grill did not disappoint!

Like Crazy Booked and more customers than i am used to....What? The word got out that this place was the Bomb? I knew it. I should have just kept my mouth closed, but what can i say...My second time here or is it my fourth...anyways i Love the Food like crazy..Moist, Tender, Succulent, moderately price ( I am not exaggerating. More like on the affordable I dont know how they can do it. ) I am sorry El Gauchos. John's Grill is closer, tastier, less cost, better atmosphere, better scenery afterwards, more romantic, and just a small hometown feel, but with unique style of service and experience. I can only tell my friends and I am sure they made it all the way from Tacoma, Olympia, and Bend Oregon.......They know good food and your establishment is up there. Go figure and i really didnt want to come to this place in the first place, Lucky I Did!!!!

Anytime my wife and I have a special occasion to celebrate (birthdays, anniversaries) we always find ourselves coming back here to John's Grill. Each time I go, I try something new on the menu. I have not been disappointed. To start, the bread they bring is heavenly. My wife found the same brand (Essential Bakery?) at Whole Foods and we just love it. I've had the beef stroganoff and the meat is so tender in addition to the entire platter being so creamy and flavorful. For the steak lovers out there, any selection will truly please your tastebuds. I usually go with the NY cut as these are just as tender as a filet cut. I feel so spoiled having such a great restaurant where I live. This is truly Mukilteo's hidden gem for fine dining in a casual atmosphere! Thank you so much!

We've always been happy here. The food is awesome, especially the steaks.... we always come here for the Steak. Service is really good too. Nice quiet place, with a homey feeling to it. Definitely going back.

Great location, Awesome service! Awesome service and good food. Great cozy setting located near the waterfront. The dining experience was made even better by our awesome server Julie and the friendly host (I didnt catch her name). It's a bit pricey in my opinion so the yelp coupon helps. Started off with the crab cake, then we had the stroganoff and the seafood linguini. I would give service A and the food a B. My Suggestion: Get the Yelp coupon ($20 for $30) to help with the tab

Good cocktails, salad was good, the potatoes were deep fried potatoe wedges ( would have expected something fancier or at least more flavor) kind of bland. Of course Johns cut NY strip was cooked and flavored very much to taste. The steak made the extra star. 3-5. Careful, of how many at your table redeem the $30 for $20 yelp coupon. The server nearly hit the ceiling. But, one per person is one person. A cool thank you not a shit coupons would have earned another star. The coupon brought me in the food would of given it anoother shot, The reaction makes me nervous to come back.

I took my husband here for his birthday dinner. The service was lovely and the food was excellent. There were not a lot of people there as it was late on a weeknight, so it made for a romantic, fun dinner.

We started with the Crab Cake appetizer which was excellent and big enough for two. The bread was good but not hot like I prefer. The Filet Mignon was cooked rare as ordered and the mushroom sauce I chose very tasty. I was fully satisfied with the Filet but next time I may ask for extra rare to suit my taste. The mashed potatoe was very good and the green vegetable adequate. Johns is in the local area so will plan on returning. They handled the 30 dollar discount card displayed on my smart phone without difficulty.

First off, let me say they I've been to John's several times, and that should say plenty of what I already think of this place. The food is excellent, ambiance/family feel is great, and I've brought and recommended several friends to this restaurant in the past. My rating stands at 5 stars for these reasons, but last night I need to speak about. They were busy, packed actually, so I understand why what happened, happened....BUT, that said, let me recount the evening. My partner and I, along with our friends, had made reservations, but got hungry and had called to ask if we could come early and Ally (?) said sure, no problem. We arrived, were sat, by Ally, and she told us the specials and took our drink orders. John's wife (I can never remember her name) was our waitress. We ordered our meals, I asked if I could change my starch choice to the pasta and she said that'd be ok. It started getting busier, and the whole vibe got "brusque" shall we say. Dinner arrived and the starch order got turned around, giving my partner the pasta, bringing that to her attention apparently wasn't a good idea because the response was "I can take it back to the kitchen and re-plate it", which of course was silly, we could manage that in our own. Dinner was as always, exceptional, but the service still was hurried and frantic, and quite frankly perplexing, because the small dining room was adequately staffed, I could be petty here and mention the bread and ice tea, but I won't. The actual problem was this....when it came time to pay the bill, my partner pulls out the Yelp coupon ($30 off for $20), and yes he should've brought that to her attention at the start of the meal but didn't, but even so, the "experience" deteriorated quickly. She said that the coupon wasn't good for the whole table because we had separate checks, which we already understood.....that's why we had separate checks....duh! So when she presents the bill, the gobbly-gook that we looked at was confusing to say the least, and upon asking for an explanation, was given a rather terse response that her husband set up the computer system and that she didn't couldn't tell us why the check didn't make any sense with the coupon discount. The check had 3 different discounts that no matter how you looked at it seemed that we either received only $20 off or possibly $40 off, but no where on the check did it say $30 off. So ok, whatever, pay the bill, tip the waitress 20% on the pre-discount amount and leave, say goodnight and thank you, get into the car and start to question again the check and did we get the deal we were supposed to. So I went back in for a clearer explanation and you would've thought I slapped the Pope...."I don't understand it either", "it's my husband who sat up the computer system", "I'll go get him and have HIM explain it to you"! During this whole rant I'm telling her to not bother her busy husband, but no, she couldn't explain it, nor could her son (the waiter) so her husband MUST come forth. So, here he comes, rushed, perturbed that he was pulled off the line for this customer who had "requested", dare I say, an explanation, an accounting, if you will, of this check. I didn't ask him to come out, I told her not to bring him out, but nonetheless, there he was, giving me this even more confusing breakdown of how the tax is calculated on the discounted amount and therefore that's why it's printed like it is because it's not his problem to pay the tax and yada yada, all the while I know he's thinking he needs to flip the filet for table 3. Now, i hate to say this, I've been in the restaurant business all my life, well over 40 yrs, so I DO understand when you're really busy what a pain in the ass it is to explain to someone something that is perfectly clear to you, but apparently they can't comprehend the most basic things in life. Look, coupons are a necessary evil in today's marketplace, unfortunately, but if you're going to offer them, and therefore honor them, then the very least you can do is to present a check that clearly states $30 off, so I don't have to feel like an idiot trying to figure it out or to dare ask for a "simple" explanation. All that said, I'll still keep going back, I'll still recommend the place, because it deserves it, I'm just saying everything could've been handled alot better.

Food was alright but not for the price. Service was subpar. Additionally our appetizer was forgotten. When they were reminded and finally bright it out there was hardly any calamari under the breading. Not planning on returning.

Wow My hubby took me here the day after Valentine's and we were not disappointed! This was our first time here and we will be back! The bread was a fabulous tasty surprise, organic and made fresh in Seattle! Then we started with a cup of soup. My hubby chose the house chowder and I had the daily flavor which was a sweet potato surprise! We've never tasted anything so wonderful. We're told John makes everything from scratch including all his broth bases(you can tell). Then we had their Seafood Linguini which was the first we've seen with a combination of huge prawns, scallops and crab. Truly outstanding and delicious! We're just sorry we never tried this place sooner. How wonderful to have something so great so close to home! We look forward to our next visit! The service was great!

Tonight was our first visit & YES we will be back for more! Took advantage of the Yelp Deal. And will be purchasing more of those for sure. Nice quiet atmosphere, friendly & prompt service. Chowder was outstanding. Filet Mignon was cooked perfectly. The garlic fettuccine that came with my Grilled Prawns was the absolute best I've ever had & all I can think about is ordering an entire bowl of it our next visit. Would give it 5 stars but holding out until we have a bit of a track record going ... which we will ;)

My husband and I ate here last night and it was great! We sat outside and could see the water. I had the filet mignon and it came out great and the mashed potatoes were awesome too. My husband got the Roasted chicken also nice. We were very impressed with the crab cake. It's actually one huge crab cake and very generous in portion size. Great neighborhood restaurant overall and we will be back!

Wow! So good....and I've never been here? How is this possible?! I want you to pay attention when I say this........BEST MEAL ever. From the crab cakes to the perfectly cooked steak to the Carmel sauce on my brownie. Everything was just perfect. If you are in The Muk you MUST try this restaurant , oh and I used their yelp deal with no problem, in fact they also gave my husband a free dessert for his bday.

We ate here last night due to the wonderful reviews in the Everett Herald. We had a dinner reservation for 7:15 but arrived there early and sat at the bar. There were five of us sitting there and a couple in the middle were cashing out. We sat for quite a while before someone asked if we wanted drinks. The young man came out to help the couple cash out and completely ignored us. (I am pretty sure he was new) We decided to eat at the bar and then ended up sitting where the couple sat staring straight back into the kitchen. First off, everyone was nice but what we could see from the bar and the two or three people in and out, it was being run in a very chaotic way. There was no organization going on and who was in charge of the customers in the bar. Not sure about the dining area. Couple of times the person who was finally waiting on us asked us the same question several times. I got the feeling either someone was sick or they were shorthanded (which btw, they did not look shorthanded) or some catastrophic thing had happened. Everyone appeared to be flustered and did not know their roles in helping the customer. The bar is not really set for serving people, it is unorganized and the way it is set up does not help the people who are serving the customers. Now let's get to the steak. New York 14oz., it was the best steak that I have ever had and I am comparing this to eating at the Metropolitan Grill. Outstanding. My hat is off to the Chef who cooked it. FABULOUS! The Halibut was done beautiful. I give it three stars because, the ambiance is really lacking and the staff was completely unorganized. Would I go back again? Probably not. A restaurant needs to hit the three areas, food, ambiance and staff. Two thirds of it was just not there.

My parents really love this place. I mean REEAlly love it. After they discovered it last Christmas I swear they were talking about the steak with roquefort cheese for over a month. The quality of food here is excellent - the corn chowder is *Amazing*. So is the crab cake and the steaks are all consistently delish. John's is in a quiet little out-of-the way spot that gives you a good excuse to drive down to pretty Mukilteo. It doesn't have the view that Ivar's has but it won't have a crowd either and you're guaranteed awesome service and food.

We went here last saturday because we had a gift certificate. The meal was excellent...I had the filet mignon and my husband had the lamb chops. They were both delicious. The dessert was equally as good. The only negative would be- the wait staff was very quiet and not outgoing as one would assume a waitress would be. Also- my chocolatini glass did have a chip in the rim but I just made sure to avoid that area.

I've wanted to go to John's Grill for a long time! We went there for my birthday dinner last month. Unfortunately, the food was just "all right," and the service was quite mediocre. The prices were too high for food that was not exceptional, and I felt that maybe the staff was new to restaurant work? Also, the bottle of wine we ordered was on a "special" price for $39, $3 less than its "usual" price, but we were charged for the regular price. Yes, we can afford $3 more, but when I brought it to their attention, the staff was quite uninterested in fixing it. They just sort of looked at each other! I probably won't go back there, which is a shame, because I like to support local businesses.

Sort of a high end Cheers with good grub and white tablecloths, the kind of place regulars will be remembered, probably by their second visit. Good start to the meal, nice local artisan herb bread and hubby's Tanqueray martini intact with the perfect amount of fine ice chips. My pork medallions succulently swam in a wipe-the-plate clean delicioso vermouth-based demi-glace sauce with artichokes elephant garlic, capers, and artichoke yumminess. The rest of the plate didn't hold a candle to it, but that's ok. Hubby's beef stroganoff was good, not special, suspect if he'd had the signature steak he's be a happier camper as stroganoff is not his usual fare for a reason. Key lime pie... ok but probably not worth the calories. Living Social got made the meal affordable, a little pricey otherwise though that seems par for the course here, still suffering sticker shop compared to Portland area prices. If John's was as close as the slightly higher priced Anthonys, would consider it a reasonable stop for a nicer meal, especially for out of town guests. Nicer interior, doesn't have Anthony's marina view, though a much more intimate, attentive dining experience.

When you eat at a restaurant where the name on the window (John) is not only the owner but the chef, you typically are in for a treat. That's the case here. Good well thought food, simple ingredients nicely combined and prepared. Very comfortable atmosphere, not pretentious at all. Very accessible prices for upper end fare. Great service, casual and not rushed. Knowledgable staff. A wonderful date night with my wife. It's been open for 8 years we were told and has a strong following of regulars who go every week apparently. Try the Polenta Sticks appetizer, it's unlike any polenta dish you've ever had.

Another excellent dinner at John's Grill tonight! We started with the calamari which had a nice light batter, not heavy or greasy, and a yummy dipping sauce. My husband had the Caesar salad he says was good, but not $7 good. My spinach salad was fresh and lightly dressed as I requested. My husband had the chicken entrée and I had the polenta. The chicken comes with the most awesome gravy we have ever had. I had the chicken on our first visit. The polenta was nice and crispy and the seasonal vegetables that came with were perfectly cooked, not mushy at all. The service was great too and we didn't feel rushed. We got to enjoy our baby free evening. Lisa and John have a good thing going here. We will definitely be back, with or without a yelp deal!

Went here looking for a great steak in the north-end. Found this place on Yelp, Thanks Yelpers! Ordered a couple of filets that where cooked to perfection. I give the food two HUGE THUMBS UP! This was one of the best steaks my girlfriend and I have ever had! Forget about The Met, Daniels, etc. Johns is where its at! Prices where very reasonable and the location was very nice. We also had a few drinks (bloody mary, mojito) that where also awesome! Only negative was the waitress seemed to forget we where there. We will most definitely return!

Love just up the hill so John's is an easy walk from our place. Happy hour both times...not at all impressed. Service was not attentive...even in the mostly empty lounge. Haven't been back for months. Probably won't return.

Love this place! I ordered a grilled filet and it was phenomenal. My husband ordered salmon and it was equally delicious. The side dishes were super tasty as well, especially the alfredo. We had casually mentioned it was our anniversary and they brought us a complimentary dessert. We chose the chocolate mousse with fresh berries. It was heavenly. Looking forward to going back for a second installment.

Based on the other Yelp ratings, we were really looking forward to a nice meal. The restaurant is cozy with a great atmosphere. But, the food was all mediocre. We had a crab cake, calamari, lamb chops, New York strip, and seafood linguini. Everything was bland. My lamb chops were beautiful, but tasted like beef. Also, don't be in a hurry. The restaurant was half full and it took 1.5 hours to get food. Some might like the slower service. Too bad.

Was visiting Everett for business and when I asked my local co-workers about where to get a good steak, I was told that "I was in the wrong town for steak". Well nothing could be farther than the truth! Found the reviews about John's Grill on yelp and based on past reviews, decided to try it out for myself. Glad I did! I had the Roasted Corn and Clam Chowder followed by an awesome 14 oz. Center Cut New York which appearently "John" had trimmed off the normal piece of grissle that hugs one side of a typical NY Strip. It was the biggest 14 oz. steak I have ever had. I am a Native Texan and live in the D/FW area so I know a good steak and John's definitely fills the bill! The Roasted Corn and Clam Chowder was better than the Clam Chowder that I had at Ivars for lunch. Both were excellent, but John's was the best. Service was excellent and provded by cheerful attentive staff. This is not the place to go if you're in a hurry, but based on the quality of the meal, it was worth the wait. Very comfortable and relaxing atmosphere, not noisy at all and easy to carry on a pleasant conversation. There are not that many tables (10 I think), but the place was not full at 7pm on a Thursday. I have added John's to my iPhone for meals while in the Everett area as I come somewhat often for work. I will also be recommending to my co-workers that visit the area also Looking forward to coming back as I want to try the 8 oz filet and the Beef Stroganoff!

We have been here before and always hve been pleased until tonight. We have things on the menue that we know that we like and always have been good and consistent with taste. Unfortnaly tonight when my husband went there to get dinner and bring it home we were appalled at the service and the food. We were unable to eat the steaks because they tasted like leather and my sons chicken strips were so burnt he was unable to eat them. I guess for me the fact that the waitress argued with Jim an told him that things we knew were on the menue did not exist. Very frustrating and upsetting. We thought we had found a food spot for food and now I doubt we will even give not another shot.

We were going to a hockey game in Everett and so decided to use one of the Yelp deals and try out a new restaurant. This was it! The steak my husband ordered was perfectly cooked, if not a bit peppery. I ordered a seafood linguine and the kids ordered a chicken dish each. The service was excellent and the food was served quickly. The only reason I did not give it five stars is that while the food was good and the service was great - the prices were a bit high for what we received. If we are ever back in the neighborhood, I'm sure we will eat there again.

Awesome Steaks!! The pepper topping was a bit much but the steak was great. My wife had the Garlic Chicken and it was Fabulous! Some friends had the Seafood Linguini and they loved that as well. Will be visiting this place many more times!

This is our favorite spot in Mukilteo. We have been dining here for about 3 years. The food is consistant. Cocktails, consistant. Service is always very friendly and attentive. We often split a starter (yes, usually that crab cake), salad and entree, and though they charge for this I think it is a win/win. The plates are well proportioned and we leave stuffed. John prepares his salmon perfectly and with a lightness to the seasoning. The artwork is cool too.... not a complaint from us!

Have been looking fro a nice north end restaurant for some time. This was close. The ambiance was nice, low lighting and small (cozy), but the tables lacked tablecloths, which I think would be necessary if they are trying to be a 5 star restaurant. The bread before the meal while good, was very cold. Almost if it came straight from the fridge to the table. Would have been much better warmed. For the next course, I had the corn/clam chowder. While it was OK, I doubt I would order again. Husband had the side order Caesar salad and he said he wouldn't get again. The dressing was too lemony and the homemade croutons were no better than store bought. We each ordered the Filet Mignon. He requested Medium and I Med. rare. Both arrive very bloody. While I was fine with this, as I like a rarer steak, his was extremely bloody and much closer to rare, than a medium. Having said that, both had excellent flavor. He ordered the pepper version and I the mushroom sauce/cracked green peppercorns. Wonderful, melted in my mouth. The steaks were served with garlic mashed and asparagus and both side dishes were very good. There were only 2 desserts on the menu and an additional that was the nightly special. We tried to order one that was on the menu only to find out they were already sold out of it, even though it was only 6:00 PM. A bit disappointing, but I guess we really didn't need dessert anyway. Overall, because the steak flavor was so good, I would go back. The prices were OK, our bill was around $110 (before tip) which was for 1 drink each, 1 cup of soup and 1 small salad, and 2 steak dinners.

My side-kick, BF, and I decided to celebrate our anniversary closer to home, AND away from the chains. We arrived a little before 6pm and were the 3rd party there. The decoration is not bad and the tables were clean. The restaurant itself is comfortable, and relaxing. It set the night nicely as we looked over our menu with the dimmed lights and candles. The waitress was the wife I believe, which wad quite friendly, and had served us our water and bread promptly. I loved their rosemary bread! it was divine! After a couple minutes of chatter our calamari appetizer arrived and made our mouths water. The calamari itself was soft, fresh, and was lightly coated. The sauce had a kick of cumin which was fantastic because I usually shy away from it's strong smell. By this time I started to notice how full the restaurant became, it was about 6:40pm. Our main dishes were presented before us, I had ordered their special of the day: King Salmon with shrimp... sauce, it was french, garlic fettuccine, and substituted the asparagus with potatoes. I wished I would have caught the name of my sauce because it was spectacular! I ended up using it with my potatoes as well. The salmon had a nice crisp on the outside, which I loved, and was perfectly cooked inside. My BF had ordered the 120z NY steak prepared with matre'd butter and a mushroom sauce, with potatoes and asparagus. He didn't know they encourage substituting! He got his steak medium rare and I of course sampled it to confirm it's awesomeness! The only parts he didn't like were a charred part of the steak and that his potatoes were plain, he was too afraid to ask for sour cream, *chukle* Their potatoes were red potatoes that were baked so it was nice and soft. Overall I would definitely like to come back just for their rosemary bread! I would like to try their pork loins though...

This is such a cute place. Although you don't have a view of the water, it makes up for it by its ambiance and small intimate dining room. There are only 10 or so tables and there is a full bar with some seating too, which makes for a nice quite romantic atmosphere. My husband and I went here a few days before valentines day, even though the restaurant lost our reservation, they were able to find a seat right away. The food was to die for and good portions too. We had the calimari which was amazing with its jalepeno dipping sauce, and I barely like calimari. I ordered the pork tenderloin, which came with fetticcini (most favorful fettuccini I've ever had), and asparagus. It was so delicious I couldn't leave anything on my plate....I had to eat it all....and I did. My husband ordered the steak, which I guess is what John's Grill is known for. He had the peppered steak, which was perfectly seasoned and the coloring for medium steak was perfect. The Whole meal was wonderful, service was very attentive and made a perfect romantic evening.
