This place is awesome! Wish there was another one closer to where I live, but this place definitely worth the drive! Love that it is a Japanese euro infused food, one of the thing I miss most about Japan. Their desserts are very good as well! Some reviews mentioned they have Ramen, I would have to come back to try that. This restaurant is very small, so there might be a long wait depending on what time you go. Service can be a little slow especially when they are busy, but don't worry because the food is totally worth it!

LOVED THE EDAMAME!!!! Different from the traditional BUT A MUST HAVE!!!! Cute little place. I ordered the shrimp tempura. The batter was perfect BUT what RUINED IT was the dipping sauce!!!!!! It was NOT the traditional dipping sauce and was a REALLY HEAVY shoyu type of base so it made it difficult to eat and difficult to appreciate because IT REALLY WAS COOKED PERFECT but the sauce ruined it! The hubby enjoyed the baked chicken which was completely euro! It was served with two breaded fried prawns. I plan to return so i can try their ramen. I thought it was odd that they didn't serve ramen daily!! It was my main reason for going there, unfortunately they only serve it on Monday, Wednesday, & Saturday for LUNCH!!! I was a little uncomfortable with each table being so so very close to each other. The ladies butt was right next to our heads as she tried to maneuver into her seat! This was a little awkward! I can appreciate a good butt (though this was not one) however placing a piece of food n having it next to my ear was awkward!

i surely do like this place. it's like eating food cooked by mom (who is of course, the best cook in the world) . the restaurant is family owned and everyone is welcoming and friendly. this is a very small space with maybe 5 tables and total seating of maybe 20 at the tables and 6 more at the bar. and in this case, seeing a bunch of japanese and japanese-american customers does, truly , indicate the food here is authentic and pleasing. cafe soleil specializes in yoshoku. this is the culinary style that blends western with japanese cuisine. oh, does that vaguely sound like "fusion"? you all know my negative opinion of (asian) fusion, but......this is not the weird forced asian fusion made up on someone's ipad: oh, let's put some truffle oil on laksa.....!!!!! yoshoku to me, is a natural evolution of, literally, east meeting west, having taken many years to develop into today's unique character. would you believe me if i said Tempura and Tonkastsu were influenced by the deep frying techniques of the Portuguese who were one of the first europeans allowed access into japan back in the 1500s? believe me or shut up. you can expect to find all the yoshoku requirements here: omurice (ketchup rice), hayashi rice, kare (curry), hambagu, tonkstsu, with a fried egg on top of everything; as well as other commonly known japanese dishes like tempura (techincally yoshuku) and teriyaki. the cooking style is yoshoku, but with a definite french influence. there are specials that smack of french cooking but with a definite japanese touch. some of the specials are hit and miss but you will not go wrong staying with the regular yoshoku menu. in the winter, cafe soleil makes ramen, only for lunch on wed, thurs and sat. sometimes it will be miso ramen or shoyu ramen or on saturdays 2 ramens of their choice. do not miss on this. winter could be over tomorrow if you know what i mean. cooking up the broth takes at least a full day. hot broth cooking away on the stove during a warm spring or summer day is murder, especially in a cozy little space as cafe soleil. don't be afraid. be brave. break away from the known teriyaki dishes and try the the yoshoku dishes mentioned above. i think you will find them more to your liking than you would think.

This place is fantastic! Great food made with love. Japanese euro infused food is very yummy! I love the ramen on Wednesdays and Saturdays for lunch only!

We went to Cafe Soleil last night and ordered mostly sushi. (The dishes that walked by look good too!) I was pleasantly surprised. f I even told my husband that it was as good as some of the trendy places in Los Angeles. I would definitely go back given the opportunity.

Good find in Mukilteo, thank you Yelp! I ordered the Café Soleil style poutine $6 (French fries topped with original curry sauce and melted mozzarella cheese.) I love poutine and love curry so I decided to get this. I wasn't thinking well because in addition to the poutine I ordered the curry rice. Haha, I don't what I was thinking. However, both orders were really good. I know my bf ordered some sushi as well. The place is small, but it gives it somewhat of a home-y feeling. The workers were very nice, and were social back to the customers who were at the bar. I definitely want to go back when I'm craving some Japanese (well "euro-japense" food) when I'm in the Mukilteo area.

Two flies in my water. Only saw them after I downed 1/3 of the water, hopefully I didn't consume any flies. Gross. I showed the chef and waitress the flies in my water and they apologize, took away the water and brought new a new water and that was it. The least they can do is at least offer me free dessert or a small discount. This is flies! Worse than hair in my book (depends on the kind of hair of course). I understand they are small operation but this is quite unacceptable!!

consistent staples / unique seasonal specials / fusion food done right What a gem of a find! Honest homestyle cooking (try the omurice) that's consistently great coupled with monthly specials that display a more daring style. "Fusion" restaurants usually leave me feeling cheated but this place does it right.

A friend wanted to meet for lunch and suggested Cafe Soleil, and from it's name alone, I wasn't prepared for the Japanese menu and staff! We were greeted with "Irrashaimase!" and seated very quickly toward the back of the small restaurant where we could see some postcards from Kauai (a nice nostalgic moment for me since I just moved from Hawaii). The restaurant's atmosphere did feel Euro-Japanese as other yelpers mentioned, with the walls and decor flamboyant and Euro-influenced, with more subtle Japanese utensils and condiments on the table. After looking through the lunch menu, I and my friend ordered the Gourmet Teriyaki Salmon and my boyfriend ordered the Stewed Hamburger Steak, all for $10.50 each. (Prices are different from their most updated online lunch menu.) Lastly we ordered the Dragon Roll to share. First we were served Miso Soup which was delicious and just the right temperature, then came our meal served with salad and rice. The salad had almost an Italian-style dressing with sliced watermelon on top. Something totally new to me and delicious too! I tried all our food, and everything was great. The teriyaki salmon hit the spot, and all of us cleaned our plates, but felt adequately full. Even the wasabi for the sushi was as good as you can get in the US with just enough heat to burn some of your nostril hairs off if you eat a little too much! My kind of wasabi. For some final observations, the waitstaff was attentive enough and parking was easy and free in the parking lot. I will definitely come here again!

I've been wanting to try this place out for a while and I'm glad I did. It was a lot smaller than I expected and the restaurant is pretty narrow but it was cozy. I came here for lunch with my husband. The menu is only a page long with their sushi rolls on the back. I wish I saw that their appetizers and desserts were written on separate boards and not on the menu because I didn't see it at first and I might have wanted to try something if I hadn't already ordered. Anyway, I had the tempura udon which was very good. The soup base wasn't too fishy and over powering like I've had at some places. The tempura was nice, crunchy, and light. Not at all greasy. My husband had curry rice with tonkatsu. It's so much better than the packaged curry I normally buy from the store. I also had to try the panna cotta sundae. And it was delicious! I like that there was variety in their desserts rather than having just mochi ice cream (which seems to be the standard at any Japanese restaurant.) We will definitely be back to try more. :3

This place just keeps getting better, I left 1 year ago and Cafe' Soleil is still making excellent Chef cook meals, Shinichi and Masumi Nakagawa will be celebrating their 5 years of doing 5 star service (With-a-Smile), if your driving by-then stop on by.

My favorite spot for after work drinks and western style Japanese food. Try the mushroom and clam appetizer and omelet rice with hayashi rice.

A friend recommended me this place after my moaning and groaning about wanting omurice. Since the need for omurice was too strong, I decided that I should definitely check out Cafe Soleil. The place was quite small, but pretty cozy. I felt pretty welcome in the restaurant. The menu was quite small, but every item sounded interesting. I was also pretty surprised that I had options available for my omurice, such as having it with Hayashi sauce or curry sauce, and adding tonkatsu or chicken katsu as well. I decided to go with the curry sauce and tonkatsu. The omurice was pretty good! The egg had a very smooth consistency and blanketed the rice evenly. The rice inside was also great as well, the flavor of the ketchup not being incredibly overpowering. The curry sauce was also a nice addition, adding some kick to the egg. The tonkatsu was rice, but it was a little tough, but that wasn't that big of an issue. I also decided to treat myself to some dessert and ordered the green tea creme brulee. It was served with the strawberries and whipped cream on the side, which I thought was nice. The creme brulee was absolutely wonderful. It was a gentle kind of sweet and the sugar on top was not burnt and complemented the dessert very well. The service was excellent. The nice waitress was attentive and very nice. The chef was also pretty cool to talk to and was helping out with my conversational Japanese. It's a little more on the pricy side, but with the excellent food and service I got, it was well worth it. Overall, my experience was quite pleasant and I'll be visiting this restaurant often. :D

I could eat their sautéed oysters all day long! The place is a little crammy for family with kids but good place to have jap/euro style food. Service is just ok.

Authentic Japanese homestyle cooking. The place is kind of small and I felt cramped in there. Their menu has a lot of non-gluten options, so if you have a gluten allergy, options are very limited. Probably wouldn't go back there because everything has wheat or soy in it.

The food was awesome!!!! I am Japanese so I could enjoy the home cooked food! However,,,,,,,,the old lady who is chef's wife is soooooooooooooo rude. Even I really liked the food I couldn't have a good time cuz of the bad service.

I'm really picky about eating good food. This place is amazing! Euro Japanese Cuisine! I Love their food! But if you go there, then you must try their curry! I heard Head chef / owner makes his own curry from scratch! I wonder why this restaurant's curry taste so amazing! Food is delicious, well plated, and clean. Plus all the staffs are really friendly! I really Love this place! Gotta check out lunch and dinner specials for sure! This place is highly recommended for people those who wants take time and enjoy the great food.

My family has been eating at Café Soleil for at least five years now, and we are constantly impressed by the high quality tastes Nakagawa-san offers. There is always something new for every holiday special. The Café Soleil staff treats us like family, and they give gifts to the children of their consistent customers. Often we have no words to describe their quality of food. I got Yelp just so that I could write this review.

The location is hard to spot at the beginning but the food is amazing!!! I highly recommend their curry fries and takoyaki!!! They are my all-time favorites!!!:D I come here a lot and I have tried many different dishes here. The only food that I don't recommend is their sushi... They look and taste ok... Not very good sushi...too simple and they don't have a lot of stuff in them. They are more like the shopping mall kind of sushi.....which kind of surprised me when I saw them as I expected better food from them lol. The staff are nice and friendly! The seating is very limited so sometimes you may not be able to find a seat. It can get very crowded on a Friday night or during holidays. It's worth the wait though!!:)

The name "Cafe Soleil" totally fooled me at first... but turns out it's a really good Japanese restaurant. It's perfect whether you're looking for a meal after touring the nearby Boeing Factory, or if you just want delicious, authentic Japanese Western-style food. The location is small, tucked away in a little strip along the highway. Getting into the parking lot is a little tricky. From the Mukilteo Speedway, turn onto Harbour Pointe Boulevard, then make a right at Harbour Place. Recommended dishes: - Rice omelette (aka "omurice") - Poutine - Creme brûlée (seasonal flavor) - Panna cotta sundae (vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, panna cotta, Omurice is an omelette filled with fried rice. Cafe Soleil's is spot-on. If you haven't had it before, you must try it. And if you have had it before, you won't be disappointed. The rice stuffing is fried with chicken and vegetables, and it's flavored with just enough ketchup. The egg is creamy and light. Poutine is originally a French-Canadian dish. Cafe Soleil's version consists of thinner-cut fries, covered in curry sauce, and topped with melted mozzarella cheese. It's pretty simple, but it's freakin' good comfort food. The panna cotta sundae is a parfait, with cornflakes at the bottom, vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, panna cotta, berries, and a Pocky-type garnish (chocolate-dipped biscuit stick). I wouldn't advise getting the grilled herb salmon - the sauce is tasty, but I found the fish a little overcooked. Plus, there are so many other tasty, less common things to eat! Note -- the bathroom is kinda weird... it's clean, don't get me wrong. But the lighting is eery. It's not blacklight, as another reviewer said, although I get why she thought so - it's a combination of blue and red light bulbs. Totally doesn't jibe with the rest of the restaurant's atmosphere. Well, whatever. The food's tasty!

This place is my favorite little whole in the wall restaurant! It is so absolutely unique and delicious! If you are in the mood to try something new and exotic, definintely stop here! Their garlic edamame is GREAT! I ordered prawns with rice and cheese; it was different, but wish I went a little more out of the box. No matter what you order here, you are sure to be pleased! As for deserts, the green tea creme brulee is delicious, and the panna cotta sundae is as well if you are in to flan

We decided on this place because of the reviews here on yelp. I'll start by saying that their appetizers were great! We had the fried tofu steak, pork wrapped asparagus and a spicy tuna roll sushi. All between $6-8 Their dinner plates on the other hand, were in the $11-14 range were more of a plate lunch type food I felt and I would have been fine paying $8 for a plate lunch. Definitely go for a few drinks and tapas style snacking. Then I might grab a plate to go since I'm already there. ;)

The service was slow. They could warn us in advance about cooking the food for so long. But at least it was fresh and delicous! This place reminds me of the Japanese western style restaurants in Tokyo. My curry rice was delicious with homemade curry. Other fusion style dishes are just as good. We will definitely come back soon for more!

I would've never know about this place if it wasn't for my friend, Shinichi. One being that it is located way up in Mukilteo, which is pretty far from me. So one night hanging out with my friend near Lynnwood, I suggested we try out the place. Originally I headed to this place for the curry but I didn't feel like having rice that night so I got the curry fries and wrapped asparagus. The curry fries were really good, fries were crispy and not overcooked and the curry had a more subtle taste. I would imagine it would be excellent over rice. The wrapped asparagus was delicious, tender and juicy but the sauce was overly sweet for me. Some added pepper flakes would've made it just perfect. For dessert I could not resist ordering the mocha creme brulee and man was I ecstatic I did. It was rich and smooth with the perfect amount of mocha. So good I almost licked the bowl! My friend ordered a bowl of udon which was huge! Looked very delicious as well. Next time when I'm in the neighborhood, I will stop by for some curry like I had planned to.

We just stumbled onto the place as it's near our hotel. And it was definitely a find. The salads were really tasty, and I wish we'd gotten more of the shrimp dumplings as they were very good, but only 4 per order made for a small serving for each of us. With the main meal, my wife had the beef curry which was very good and flavorful with 'medium' heat. I had the tempura udon, which was good as well. Overall, a good neighborhood find, even though I wasn't expecting Chinese/Asian from a place named Café Soleil.

I've frequented this establishment since Grouchy Chef took his inflated ego and temper and left. Thank goodness and good riddance! This place is deservedly better, and with less shouting/up-tightedness. All the fish dishes I've had were perfectly done. All the chicken dishes I've had were perfectly done. The curry was especially delicious, and anything with Salmon in it is going to get your salivary glands a workout because it's perfect. Japanese-American-Euro fusion dining at it's best. The restaurant is small (around 20 seats) and thus having just one server and one chef is OK. I'm really searching for something bad to say about this place. The prices are very reasonable for the quality you get and you shouldn't leave hungry. The desserts are all awesome too, the creme brulee is especially awesome. For all the kvetching about the north-end being a wasteland of chain restaurants, have heart, and know where to look. Try this place, and if you walk away from here disappointed, stick with your foo-foo Seattle restaurants. Or maybe go over to the shed that the Grouch went to, that'll keep you in your place!

I'm writing this having just devoured a plateful of Hayashi Rice with Chicken Katsu ($10) and their Black Tea Mousse Cake ($6.25) and Green Tea Creme Brulee (approx. $6). And a bite of their Organic Tofu Steak with Greens ($8.50) and Hayashi Rice with Deep Fried Prawns ($10). If that amount of food sounded intimidating, imagine my full stomach... I thought their Hayashi Sauce was okay--not as boldly flavored as I've had in Japan--however, the chicken katsu was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Prawns were good, too, just on the small side. I was impressed by the organic tofu and how one can make it so flavorful. It tasted like steak with the black pepper, garlic chips, etc but was textured like tofu, soft and smooth. Desserts were AMAZING. The Mousse Cake tasted like tea and was balanced out by the berry compote, fresh whipped cream, and cherries on the side. The crumbly pie crust bottom was a nice surprise. Green Tea Creme Brulee tasted really rich and fragrant--as in, you really taste matcha when you eat it, and not just artificial flavoring like Starbucks matcha lattes.. I don't think I'd be able to eat an entire order of it because I would need something tart to balance out the creaminess. All in all, a fun little Japanese joint with great food at slightly high prices. But it's also organic and/or natural foods. Convenient hours, too: M-F 11-9pm, Sat 12pm-9pm.

I love this place... far from me but still, we take the time to get out there and enjoy their food. The organic tofu steak.... oh and the eggplant is fantastic as are most of the entrees... try the Japanese hambagu which is like their version of meatloaf. Amazing! Their desserts are a definite try, too. You can tell they use quality ingredients in their cooking. Plus, they're always so nice and gracious. Very small place and so try not to come with a large group.

Who said Japanese food needs to be sashimi (raw fish)? What a nice restaurant! Why is it in Mukilteo? A family owned Japanese Fusion restaurant. I believe it's been open a little while. It's where the old Grouchy Chef location was. However, none of the staff served with attitude. I went there the first time for lunch with my friend at work. We both ordered their lunch special of the day with tempura, salad, soup, and rolls. It didn't look like a lot of food. Therefore, I didn't have to eat dinner that night. And, everything was so good and fresh. I went there the 2nd time with a couple yelpers after a hike up north. We told the chef our budget and had him brought the dishes to us. We had Garlic Edamame, Cafe Soleil Style Poutine, Deep Fried Chicken Karaage, Garlic Organic Tofu Steak, Tuna Poke, Spicy Tuna Rolls, California Rolls, Stewed Hamburg Steak with Deep Fried Prawns, Desserts (lavender creme brulee, and mango pudding). Since most of the food was tapas, I didn't think it would fill me up! But, that's a lot of food. It cost $27 plus tips per person. I thought it was very reasonable. My favorites are the Garlic Edamame, Tuna Poke, and the desserts. GARLIC EDAMAME is very unique. I've never had edamame saute with garlic. I was so good and I was tempted to ate the skin too. TUNA POKE was good. I love how they mixed greens, tuna, and avocado together and served with fresh fried tortilla chips. DESSERTS, man, Killer! I love their desserts. Both Lavendar Creme Brulee and Mango Pudding were really good. The creamy textures and the herbal, fruity flavors were amazing! Come here and try it if you are ever in the hood! :-)

Visited Cafe Soleil on the advice of a Yelper, in order to try out their Organic Tofu Steak, which presumably was supposed to taste like steak, except made from Tofu. Someone needs to come up with more clever names. I'm thinking Tofeak or Steakfu, although the latter might be reserved for bovine martial arts. I ordered the tofu steak as an entrée, which also came with vegetable tempura - something I had also never experienced before. What I received was vegetable tempura (obviously) and a tempura-style fried tofu steak that I was told by said Yelper was not actually the right dish, so soon I will need to go back and order the actual tofu steak, which may be an appetizer and not the entrée. Still, the fried-everything tasted really good. The fried tofu, even if it was not what I initially was supposed to order, was tasty. The tempura was the first tempura I've ever had, so it was average (tee hee, math jokes). It's nice to know that there are still ways to make even vegetables unhealthy. You'd think tempura was an American food, but apparently not. I also had the green tea mochi cake (or matchi cake?) and it was delicious. It was also served with red bean paste, equally as delicious. I would go back for the cake alone. As a side note, apparently beans are also considered to be small, but I would argue that beans are only small when compared to other larger things. Beans are much bigger than ants. This is a fact. It's a little bit overpriced for a small little restaurant in Mukilteo, but since most of the ingredients are organic they can justify it. Neat little place in the middle of a city I can't spell without cutting and pasting.

Came here once for the sushi and it was great. Had a selection of California, spring and Washington rolls and they all tasted fantastic. There is bar seating next to where they make the food which is kinda cool and there are displays of traditional Japanese art work and wines. The chairs are nice and the counter was clean. Will come again.

I happened to be at the Mukilteo Y for two days of training, yelped local places for lunch and found this hidden gem! I am half Japanese, have lived in Japan, and LOVE me some Japanese food! I don't care if its expensive or popular - I've eaten in 5 star resturaunts and hole in the wall dives with equal enjoyment as long as the food is GOOD. That said, I loved the food at Cafe Soleil! Bizzare name for a Japanese place, but when you consider the food is entirely modern Japanese it makes more sense. They would consider it heavily Western influenced food, but it is in an entirely Japanese way. French fries with cheese and curry sauce, for instance! The food was entirely authentic modern Japanese, and delicious. I had the teriyaki salmon both days because it was just that good. Sashimi grade salmon, cooked to perfection - fast and still super moist and falling apart, not at all dry. The teriyaki sauce was REAL teriyaki sauce - thin, not too sweet, with garlic and ginger. Yum!!! My partner had some sushi, and said the rice was quality and the flavor good. (we are total rice snobs, and most places we really don't like it) I wish there were more wheat free items, but looking (and smelling) around, everything from fried oysters, to omelet rice (like grandma makes!), looked delicious. Also, both days there were nihonjin (japanese people from japan) in there. How likely is that in Mukilteo? Fantastic! Will definately be back.

Needed a place for dinner after seeing the Boeing 'Future of Flight' tour and this came up on Yelp. It's a small and quaint little restaurant with a real Japanese cook and wait staff, always a good sign for a Japanese restaurant. My husband and I split: Spicy Tuna Spring Roll, Fried Octopus Balls and Curry Rice (Spicy Level 3). We weren't very hungry and it was the perfect amount. The spicy tuna spring rolls were unique and tasty, instead the usual spring roll you'd get with Pho, this had spicy tuna. The fried octopus balls were the right texture and really flavorful. The curry wasn't like any curry I had before. A mix between yellow Chinese curry and Indian curry. I really liked it. I love spicy and this had just a little heat to make it interesting but definitely not a scorcher. Overall, a great find and definitely recommend! Yay for a Yelp find!

Went back to taste other things on the menu this evening! I LOVED the experience again!! This time I had a dinner entree: Salmon Omelet Rice, which came with miso soup and a side of salad with bits of watermelon - how refreshing!! My friend ordered the highly yelp recommended Hiyashi rice omelet and she loved it. And for dessert: Green Tea Mochi Cake + Earl Tea mouse with blueberry topping (It is just a hint of earl tea so don't worry - it's definitely a sweet dessert)

Yummy!!! I love their Japanese food and I'm big fan of Cafe Soleil. I wish they were closer to my place. Their Omurice(?) is super tasty and the way they cook egg is super proffessional. Their dressing is also tasty :D

This place suuuuuuuuuuucks! My mom is Japanese, and she was so excited to go to this place. It was so unbelievably disappointing. It's the equivalent of school cafeteria food in Japan. All the food tastes like it's smothered in ketchup. Because it is. The waitress was totally rude AND awkward (what a winner). And the bathroom has a blacklight, like I'm trying to look for stains from body fluids in a hotel room. Weiiiiiiiiiiiiird.

Went for lunch a few days ago. I had the lunch bento also at the table was the chicken Terriyaki. The fish in the bento was over cooked, the tempura and sushi was average. The chicken Terriyaki was ok but not as good as other restaurants in the area. I'm not planning on going back anytime soon. It's too bad because I live super close.

I came to this place for lunch. I tried to order their satee oysters but were told it's not available. I tried to order their signature dish omettlete rice but were told it's only on dinner menu and the cook was too busy at the time to make the dish. So I finally ordered curry rice with fried prawns and their famous octopus balls. How much you like this place really depends on your expectation. If you expect food-court quality or terriyaki place kind of food, this place is not bad, above average I would say. But for a proper sit down meal, it's average at best. The octopus balls were on the mushy side, lacked the slight chewiness that was expected from traditonal takoyaki. Curry rice was above average and the 2 prawns were crispy and tasted good. However right after I finished my meal, my tongue was a bit swollon; I believe it's caused by the MSG and I subsequently had to drink 3 glasses of water to quench my thrist. So for the MSG index, I gave it a 4 out of 5. This place is decant if you want a quick meal especially if you are immune to the side effects of MSG.

If there was a negative star level I would give this place a negative 305 stars. I have never experience such bad service. We literally went an hour without our food only to have to split up our OWN bill because the waitress insisted it was too confusing. This place's wildly mediocre cuisine is definitely not worth the attitude from the wait staff. Save yourself $30 and go spend it at McDonalds, at least you know you will get quick and attentive service.

I had the curry for lunch while my wife had a lunch special. Unfortunately I forgot what she had but she liked it. The homemade curry sauce was awesome. It seems to me that the owner/chef takes his craft very seriously. I appreciate the fact that this is the type of cuisine I would find in a cafe in Japan and that this quality of food can be had in Mukilteo, WA of all places. I can't wait to try the hayashi rice and omlet dishes.

Where the F*** is Mukilteo?!?!? Seriously. Driving from Renton to this place was a pain in the a$$ but the deserts really was well worth it. The tapas and the entrees were on the pricey side but they did have the whole comfort food thing down. We were here on a Saturday night and prob close to 5 Japanese families strolled through this tiny restaurant(that means it's good damn it). We had the omelet eel which was something new and good. The deep fried stuff prob ok but not special enough to justify the price. The clam whatever dish was good per my wife and friends(I'm not a shellfish person). Overall, my friends and my family had a great time and I definitely recommend coming here at least once and especially if you are around prime outlets for shopping this season. It's a nice strip mall joint that deserves to yelped!

The reviews for this place seemed okay so my family and I figured we would give it a try. To keep it simple, the food is really "different." I didn't understand what it is they are trying to do by mixing Japanese with whatever else that they had going on?!? The worst part was the service, the lady there was so dry and unfriendly, made the experience a pretty bad one from the start. Work on you costumer service and this restaurant may not so bad. Will I ever be back? Nope.

I've been coming to this place so many times. And I always find something I like. This is the authentic westernized Japanese food that I can not find anywhere in Seattle area. I'm so glad they opened up the restaurant near where I live!! They have some menu for a limited time, which they create with seasonal ingredients, such as matsutake (very fragrant Japanese mushroom), chestnuts, etc... For the month of November, which ended today, they were Omu rice with mushroom sauce and for dessert, it was Chestnut&Sweet potate cream parfait. Both I tried, Delicious!! I heard they will have special menu for the month of December which I can not wait to try! Another thing I really like about this place is tapas menu. When I went to the restaurant with my friend for my birthday, we ordered raw oysters with ponzu sauce, matsutake chawanmushi for appetizers. Huge oysters served on shells with salty sour ponzu with a little bit of citrus(yuzu?) were so creamy, they melted in your mouth. Chawanmushi was silky soft with lots of matsutake flavor. It's been about a month since I was at this restaurant and already craving for it!

This places rocks. I read a review in a Japanese magazine and thought I'd give it a try. The quality of the food over was pretty fantastic. Things we ordered: Sashimi app - fresh fish of tuna, salmon, hamachi, and squid. Poutine - it was good but nothing amazing, good drinking app Doria - this was not what we expected (not cream based) but the hayashi sauce was very good and the fried prawns were great. Crunch roll - I love the sushi rice here and the roll was excellent Spicy Tuna - Pretty traditional, again the rice is awesome and the flavoring of the spicy in the tuna was on the mild side for me but still pretty good. Homemade Green Tea Mochi cake - i'm not a big fan of desserts but the wifey loved it A great place for traditional items and also fusion musings. The place is intimate enough that you could go eat there by yourself. The prices were fair and the portions were just right. If you live near here definitely give it a shot, even if you just get rolls there....they are better than most and priced way better. Not a big place so not recommended for large groups. Service was good enough but it definitely helped that the food came out quickly!

Love Love Love!!! True gem in a hidden place @ Mukilteo!! A small restaurant sitting in a very quiet neighborhood. Plenty of parking. My friend and I were the first 2 customers walked in that evening, we were greeted by a very friendly waitress (could be the ladyboss). Appetizer menu with many cool stuff. I ordered buttered mushroom (can't remember the correct name, it was written on the blackboard up on sushi bar) and ahi tuna salad. OMG, the presentation of the dishes were so carefully arranged. Taste were awesome too!! The lightly buttered japanese mushroom is crispy and the ahi tuna salad filled with very pleasant sesame oil, fresh vege. Best of all, the big chunk of ahi is so freshy !! Love Love Love. Then I was struggle to go with main course or more appetizers .. end up, what the hack, more appetizers !!! I ordered the organic tofu steak and WHEM! The best I have had before!! Size of that tofu is big (yeah, that's why it is called a steak), the top is pan fried in golden brown, then took my first bite, crispy n sweet !!! End up I have no room for dessert, sushi, nor main course. Will do another round next time then. If you're the driver, pay attention not to turn to Harbour Point Blvd SW. You should keep going till you see Harbour Point Blvd, that is the right street to go. It is quite confusing if you go there first time.

This place wasn't amazing but it wasn't bad either. I came here with my co-worker around 8pm on a Monday night because everywhere else we wanted to go to seemed to be closed. The service was friendly and for the most part, prompt, although it took a little while to get our entrees... but the quality of the fish in the sushi we had was only 3/5 stars. My salmon had large chunks of fat on it, and the tuna seemed a little grey in certain spots. The avocado was really fresh, though, and the yellow tail wasn't bad either. I was a little bummed that despite this place having tons of Japanese employees, there wasn't a single dish on the menu that was "traditional"...I guess they are more fusion. I just wanted some slices of tuna on rice but instead I had to get a fusion thing with tuna and salmon. Oh well. Like I said, it wasn't bad, and the prices were fair, it just wasn't "great"...they do have Sapporo on tap though! So yay!

This little lunch gem is located just 5 min from my office in a small shopping area on the Muk Speedway. It used to be a Chinese eatery, but has been remodeled and has new ownership. Boy am I glad I finally peeked in! This place is very small but clean and nicely decorated. The menu blew me away...did not expect home made deserts and an extensive Euro-Japanese menu, complete with sushi rolls, broiled oysters, gourmet teriyaki and much more. I ordered Udon with a side of shrimp and vegetable tempura and a spicy tuna roll, all of which was delicious. Tempura was light and crispy, tuna roll was just spicy enough and udon broth had plenty of flavor...All for under $15 :-) The owner/cheff was very friendly and accommodating. I also took a peak at the dinner and tapas menu and was even more surprised to see items like broiled beef tongue (yum), sake lamb chops and seafood mix plate. All very reasonably priced. This cafe also has a small but great selection of wines and sake. I will be back in no time :-)

If you ever need to get your Youshoku cravings satisfied, this is the place to do it. It's probably a notch above most of the places in Japan serving this type of food, because they don't have the same institutional food suppliers that enable a certain kind of practiced laziness in the often-sleepy equivalents you'd find in a residential neighborhood in Japan. The demiglace is made here, not from a jar. The desserts are really nice. For a vegetarian or non-meat-eater, things are a bit limited, but I dig the toasted garlic-flavored grilled tofu and a Japanese-style curry dish. The only comparable place in the region is Fort St. George, which opened circa 1994and quickly filled with smoking Japanese salarymen and served dishes like gratin and doria and wafuu spaghetti, but has mostly shifted into being a bar with half-hearted attempts at these dishes. Cafe Soleil is better than Ft. St. George ever was.

As most will tell you, this place is a hidden gem. If you're one of the lucky ones to find this place, you are in for a treat! Far into Mukilteo speedway, and in some random plaza that doesn't have much else but a shake n go, farmers insurance and subway. The restaurant is small (so seating for big groups is rough), but the size definitely helps the comfortable atmosphere. Every single worker in that place has a geniuine smile...I love it! Now...the important part...the food! The appetizers are greatt! A bowl of garlic edamame is a must try..you might never go back to traditional edamame after this...seriously. As for entrees, I've had the curry and pork cutlet, and I was definiting digging it, iIt might be a bit strong flavored for some though. On my second trip there, I tried their omelet and I think I hit the jack pot! Fried rice wrapped around fluffy egg with 2 skewers of fried meat/veggies.. Mmm.... Oh! And each dish also comes with first a miso soup, then a salad before the actual entree. All very delicious. My bf tried the hamburger steak one, and although I'm a meat lover, this was definitely a no-go for me or him. The meat comes out looking soooo good..but it's oddle mushy and all soft and not meaty at all... perhaps its because I'm stuck on my american meaty-beefy ways, but I won't be trying that again, nor do I recommend it to you meaty lovers. And lastly...for the TRUE treasure..the gem of all gems!...THE DESSERT! I've tasted just about all of them, and I'd honestly be shocked if you didn't fall in love after just making eye contact. My fav so far is the pudding/ice cream sundae one and the green tea creme brulee......But don't get me wrong, the other desserts are just as amazing.

Don't let the name or location fool you! The service is friendly. The food is cooked to order so can take extra time but is totally worth the wait. I have met friends here several times and it always is impressive. We usually order off the sushi list but also have tried their dinner specials.

You can't do better for a unique lunch! Very small venue - best for parties of two to four. The chef rotates specials often and shows creativity and skill well above the price point you are paying. The staff are polite and courteous and the facility is always clean. I've yet to be disappointed.

Went there today for lunch with hubby. Everyone is very friendly and with good smiles. We can tell there are many regulars there. Today is the first time for us and for sure it will not be the last time. Pretty surprise little Japanese restaurant with good food. I tried the omelet rice with pork cutlet. The omelet was fluffy and just cooked. Red rice with corn, chicken and others tasted just right. Curry flavor macaroni salad was special. Salad on plate was fresh crisp with delicious dressing. Hubby ordered teriyaki chicken. Chicken was slightly overcooked but flavor was good. We will go back to try the dinner menu and dessert soon.

My husband and I ordered sushi to go last night. We chose Cafe Soleil based on reviews and we were not disappointed. I am 9 months pregnant and had a wicked sushi craving, so we ordered a selection of non-raw rolls and the garlic edamame. For 4 rolls and the edamame was $25, which I felt was a great price for 32 pieces of sushi! The rolls were well prepared, fresh, and delicious. The garlic edamame was heavenly. The garlic is not overwhelming and has wonderful flavor. Definitely give it a try! We were very pleased with our experience and I can't wait to try their raw options.

I love omurice. I've been craving omurice for awhile...but not the kind with ketchup-the kind with a good, home made demi-glace sauce/ hayashi/ or curry sauce. This is a small, hidden restaurant, run by two guys. I finally tried Cafe Soleil and was completely satisfied. The egg was really well made and not overly cooked- their homemade hayashi sauce was really good. The thing was, even without the hayashi sauce, i think it would've been good. Their curry katsu looks simple, but this isn no curry from a S&B instant box- you can taste the spices they placed into it. They also cater it to a spiciness level for you, which isn't normal for many Japanese restaurants. I also tried their squid and uni- for 7.00, it's pretty tasty. Raw squid and uni mixed together! Finally, I was totally blown away and impressed by their desserts. I had the panacotta sundae which was pana cotta over green tea ice cream witha berry compote. Not to sweet, but very tasty. The dessert that impressed me the mose was their green tea mochi cake. The cake has a chewy texture- like mochi/duk/ nian gao and cake mixed together. The edges are browned , which gives a nice texture. They also have an amazing azuki bean paste on top. The paste is smooth and sweet, not just beans from a can you get sometimes. It was really tasty. Totally creative and I would go just to have the dessert.

First, I really liked Cafe Soleil. This place reminds me of a small westernized food restaurant in Tokyo. food here is not fully Japanese.... they do not serve sushi or sashimi. However, what they server there is western style food with a hint of Japanese culture. Anyways, we went to this place for lunch. The restaurant itself was pretty small with 2 tables for 4 and 3 tables for 2. When we arrived (1:30 on Sat), there were 4 other customers. The lunch menu is a little bit limited compared to their dinner menu. My bf ordered Curry rice with deep fried pork (Tonkatsu), and I orderd rice omelet. One great thing about their rice omelet is the egg. Their egg was so fluffy and soft that I could never mimic at home. The egg was fully cooked, but it was as soft as chocolate mousse. I had a bite of my bf's curry rice as well. The curry was pretty spicy and had unique taste. It was unique in a good way, at the same time, it so hard to explain because it wasn't something I have had before. He liked it. That's all I can say lol We enjoyed our lunch very much, and the service was pretty good. The only problem would be the location. We drove to the place all the way from Seattle and had a hard time finding. It is hidden from the main street, so it could be hard to find if you are not familiar with the area. In short, it is kind of behind of walgreens. However, it is in the strip mall next to Walgreens.... My bf and I are excited to try their dinner menu sometimes soon.

It's always fun when you go to a new place and about 30 minutes later get terrible stomach cramps...oh wait...no, it is not. A group of about 12 went to Café Soleil for a celebration work event and here are some highlights of our experience: one person who sat down was told to leave unless he ordered an unspecified "minimum" purchase of food (as the waitress said it was the lunch rush...there were 5 open seats in the small place and we had already brought a huge amount of business); we were told that a check could only be split 3 ways, and that was all they could do; we were charged an automatic gratuity that was neither specified on the bill (just put into the total) or stated anywhere on the menu or signage (even though our group was split up into 3 separate tables). The server was rude and very unaccommodating to anyone, and acted as if it was a burden for us to be there. It was a very weird and uncomfortable place, which was a shame since the food was pretty decent and well priced - I cannot say with certainty that my stomachache later was in-fact related to this dining experience, but all signs pointed me to that general decision. All in all I would say if you get the opportunity to dine here, go ahead and pass.

Wow, I have been craving some Japanese style food that is not teriyaki nor sushi related. I happened to stumble across this place by accident as it is kind of obscured from street view. The atmosphere is nice and laid back. Doesn't feel like a dive nor a restaurant. Feels more like a casual lounge. Prices are a bit high, but definitely worth it. I will be going here more often. And if no one knows where Mukilteo is like some ignorant people, its squeezed next to Everett and Lynnwood. If you still can't find it, look for BOEING. Rather be from Mukilteo than ghetto ass Renton.

The food and staff was wonderful. I had the special which consisted of something I wouldn't typically order. Salmon-Rice omelet with vegetable gravy, house salad, and miso soup. It also came with 3 locally caught, deep-fried oysters that we're delectable, light, fluffy and crunchy! I had a large cold sake and the imported draft beer. Also, added a spicy-tuna roll to test freshness. Everything was delicious and of top-notch quality and freshness. I would consider the price to be medium. My stay wasn't a "deal" but I did get what I paid for.

Cafe Soleil is a restaurant that serves western cuisine with Japanese interpretation. Think of tapas dishes from Wann in Belltown or main dishes from Fort St. George in International district. Cafe Soleil adds more creativity to these dishes, though. Edamame comes not with salt but with garlic + soy sauce. Their poutine has curry sauce, popular flavor in Japan. Most of all, I was impressed with "kasu" marinated lamb. "Kasu" is traditionally used to marinate fish like cod and they creatively applied it to meat. The bold combination was nothing but a success. The pasta was not "al dente" and a little overcooked, but that's probably the only complaint I had among the 12 dishes I tried. Don't forget to leave some room for desserts. Chef Naka used to make desserts for Ginza in Bellevue and you can expect the same quality here. You can see the menu at the website: cafe-soleil.net It is a good to place to go in a group of 4 to 6 so that you can try many dishes. You might have a hard time in finding this restaurant. Make sure you have their number before you head out.

The food was very fresh and the service was pretty good. I went with my family and we had salted grilled salmon, the teriyaki salmon, the house salad, and the shrimp dumplings. For appetizers we had miso soup and edamame. The green tea ice cream is amazing, if you're looking for something sweet. It is perfect for kids and it has great food.

My friend has been raving about the Chef that has been famous for making dessert @ Ginza and opened his own Cafe here in Mukilteo (of all places)... :) Anyway, we ordered almost all the Tapa dishes with a few exceptions. What was more remarkable was the duck and the Sake marinated lamb chops. The flavor was just right and nicely done here. Also try the eel omelette... On to desserts, I digged his Pana Cotta as well as the Green Tea Creme Brulee... his fame is well deserved here. But I would recommend that Chef tries to create even more new dishes and desserts here. Afterall, we don't travel out to Mukilteo often and I think there has to be some good stables as well as some great surprises to draw me out here. All in all, a worthwhile experience albeit a little on the pricey end. I will visit again!!

good service, simple and good comfort food. First time i had the lunch special which come with fried breaded oyster, potato croquette, green salad, and salmon fried rice. the fried rice was very flavorful. this make me return for lunch the next day. then i had the omelet rice, plain with no sauce (so i can really taste the egg and rice) still pretty darn good.

The quick... Great food. Small space. Will eat there again! We were up in Everett for a birthday party and decided to stop here for dinner since we've heard others say good things about it. The place is small and in a strip mall on the far side of Paine Field. It kinda reminded me of restaurants in Japan. I had the hayashi rice with chicken katsu. I've never had hayashi rice but I've seen it on the "Dochi" Japanese TV show. It looked soo good, I had to try it. I would say it was rich and delicious. The katsu was good, even though I wish serving was slightly larger. My wife had the special...chicken katsu, au gratin and rice. Again, the katsu was katsu and even she wished there was a little more. I would have to say that the au gratin was excellent. It was rich and creamy goodness! We also had dessert - the coffee cheesecake. Very good! There were several other desserts available. I was glad to not see the standard "mochi ice cream" on the menu. :D We can't wait to go again...the drive from Bellevue makes it a once in awhile event. There are so many things on the menu that we want to try...like the kasu marinaded lamb chops or the duck breast. The price was a little high but then the chef uses high quality ingredients and it shows in the food he creates. The flavor and balance of dishes were perfect.

cafe Soleil is delicious - western and japanese fusion food that I welcome with open arms, especially in suburban Mukilteo where it seems all people do is eat fast food or whatever the QFC deli has to offer. It's next to Shake N Go, in a newer business park, and the inside is very cute and comfortable. The chefs and owner are extremely nice and you feel as if you've stepped into their home for lunch. I go to get the lunch or daily specials, and I never have to ask what it is because I know I'll like it!

i've been here twice already and if it wasn't so darn far from me in bellevue i'd be here more often. japanese cooking techniques + western ingredients = win! i'm pretty sure this is one of the only places that makes a hayashi sauce (sort of a japanese stew that's tomato based) and it's killer. naka makes his sauces and everything from scratch and he's constantly tweaking and experimenting with his items. the menu has changed several times - adding new things, removing things that aren't in season, etc...so make sure you check their website to see what the menu is. it's not cheap here, but he uses organic ingredients and that's why the prices are a bit higher. desserts are a real stand out. lunch is a little cheaper if your pockets are tight.

sorry this place isn't any good i got some baked fried rice and shrimp tempura thing.. the shrimp was good but you only get three the baked fried rice thing there was nothing good to say about. It was topped with some sort of tomato sauce and cheese, but the whole thing was overcooked, anything that WAS green like peas and veggies had turned brown. Even the tomato sauce was turning muddy brown. It ended up tasting like an overcooked pizza made out of fried rice or something. there are a couple asian cafes in socal that do this sort of dish correctly but this one was no good. The miso soup..also overcooked. The seaweed and onions in it were turning brown and it had obviously sat in a warming pot all day. There was little that was good, made worse by the portions being small. I am a light eater and i am probably going to be looking for food again in another hour or two. The total bill was $17 including tax and tip, not worth it The place is clean and staff was helpful, but thats not useful if the food is bad.

We live in Mukilteo and drove by this restaurant (formerly the Grouchy Chef) and decided to give it a try. We were surprised at the high entree prices ($15-$24), given that the restaurant was in a strip mall. The background jazz music was a bit too loud. We ordered the Penne Cream Chicken ($15), Mukilteo Seafood Mix ($19), and Grilled Chicken ($15). When my salad came, I had to ask for utensils - the waitress gave us 3 paper napkins and 3 forks. The napkins and utensils were held in plastic holders below the kitchen counter. My pasta was served in a cereal bowl. I had to get up to get the salt and pepper shakers from the far end of the kitchen counter. Overall, the food quality was good but the portions were moderate. Definitely not the place if you are looking for value, ambiance, or service.

Very good gourmet versions of japanese home-cooking. I was amazed how good the hayashi rice was, and I couldn't believe how tasty the white-chocolate cake was. The service was excellent, the price was right and the food was fantastic. What more could you want?

A bit disappointed this time... I'm a Ramen fanatic and was expecting to have some REAL Japanese Ramen noodles here. There are 2 flavors today, Garlic Salt and Carbona, supposedly Tonkotsu flavor. My daughter had Garlic Salt and it was pretty good. Yes, it was a real ramen noodle with salt, but garlic added. I can take that. I had Carbona. Well... I should've known. It tasted like carbonara pasta... That was a big disappointment. If I wanted carbonara pasta, I would've gone to an Italian restaurant. Well, their sign reads, Euro Japanese. It's not a traditional Japanese restaurant. So for that, I'd give 5 stars and will be back. If you want a real ramen noodle, go with garlic salt flavor.

Very delicious ramen. I have been looking for great ramen shop not far from Lynnwood and I have finally found one. Although, they only serve ramen on Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturdays during lunch hours. The lady serving could smile to customers to make them feel more welcome. She wasn't rude by any means. She was plenty nice. They have those cute little metal buckets for putting your payment in, I thought that was unique.
