My family and I had very enjoyable dinner after our ferry ride back. We ate outside on their deck and watched the sun descend over the tops of the trees. Our waiter James was extremely kind and did an excellent job of taking care of us. The 104 Burger was excellent with a generous, and very tasty grass-fed meat patty. I chose bleu cheese, which made it even more enjoyable. My wife had the meatloaf and it proved that meatloaf is often given a bad rap. It was quite good and you'll have some to take home as there is a generous portion served. This was our first time at Main Street Ale House and we were very happy with our last minute choice for dinner. We will be back.

A very nice place to grab a quick bite while you wait for the Kingston ferry. After a productive day trip to the Olympic national park I was tired and hungry but still had not had the opportunity to have some of the awesome Dungeness crab. The place looked nice and very presentable, a place where I would not mind sitting and having something to eat if I have the time. The service was prompt and friendly. The Dungeness crab melt was also very tasty. I loved it. It was well seasoned and the crab tested very fresh. This place also has a bar and we grabbed a quick drink on our way out. Overall, a nice, friendly place with good food.

Really disappointing experience. They were out of the beer (Valholl Golden Warrior), appetizer (steamers), and entree (22 oz ribeye) that I wanted to order. It was not a particularly busy night (Labor Day Monday), but it took over 45 minutes for our family of four to be served. Adding insult to injury, before we even got our food one of the servers asked if we had finished eating. Once we got the food, it was just ok. The best part of the fish and chips was the coleslaw. Our waitress apologized, but we won't be coming back.

I'll give a 4 because I like a big fat burger which the restaurant provides. Beer is great and if you have a 21st birthday, get the birthday shot. Delicious!! Fried are meh though. Fish and chips are wonderful!

They have a very good clam chowder! Perfect after getting off the ferry. The crab melt was small and really 2 crab cakes on half a baguette with cheese on top. Service was nice but food came out slowly and it wasn't crowded at all.

On my way back from Port Townsend, just missed the ferry. It was lunchtime, so this seemed like a likely spot to grab some lunch before the next boat arrived. I made it work, but there wasn't a lot of time to spare. I had the bacon cheeseburger (they have some other name for it) and fries for $14, and an IPA. The beer wast tasty, and the food was great, but there are better deals to be had on pub grub than fourteen bucks for a burger and fries. Service was quick, friendly and efficient, and they did get me on the road in time to catch my ferry.

Just OK. Got the 1/2 lb burger with fries. They were out of fries. A drop of mayo on the burger. Sweet potatoes substituted for reg fries. Ok but they were raw and undercooked. I've visited here a few times. Service is so so and food quality is inconsistent. If you come here without too high of expectations you'll be fine. Beer is good. Outside deck is inviting. Not horrible but not great. Last time I visited got the crab cakes with rice. Rice hard and undercooked. Seriously new management?? How do s your cook/s mess up freaking rice and fries. I know 10 year olds that can cook better than this. I used to order these before the new management and this was my favorite thing on the menu. Cooks are in dire need of training.

Ate here for lunch.. Went out on the deck and the waiter took our picture overlooking the water. Great service and really good food. Great Hamburger. The bar area looked charming. Would like to try this out for happy hour.

Just sat at a table for 20 minutes without a server coming to bring us water, ask for drink orders, or take our food order. We watched another table arrive after us in our section and get served drinks. We left without a server ever coming to our table. We went to The Drifter Lounge and had a beer in hand within a few minutes of entering.

We had a huge meal here and everything was exceptionally good! The head chef came to our table and surprised us with some side dishes that were so so delicious!! We will be back every time we come through town!!

I am really trying to say something good, so let me first say the chowder was excellent and our waiter tried really hard to make the experience better. I came with my Aunt an Uncle who had been there the week before and raved about the quality of the meal. But regretfully,to say it bluntly, this was overall the worst meal I have ever eaten out. Something was really off in the kitchen. The food took over an hour. My aunt ordered the fruit salad...last time it was a wonderful delightful mix of local berries and melon that she was really looking forward too. This time it was 8 gigantic wedges of watermelon thrown on the plate and a few strawberry's drizzled with yogurt, must have been at least half a large watermelon she took home. My Uncles cheese stake sandwich was so so dry he had to ask for extra aju to get it down. My Cesar salad had no flavor. The worst was my sons meatloaf. What came out of the kitchen should never have been put on a plate. It was burnt black, falling apart, and a complete mess. Looked like it came was just thrown on the plate. It was so bad the waiter apologized and ordered a new plate and did not charge us for the meal. My son ended up having to wait almost an hour and a half to eat and by that point all he wanted to do was leave. Thank God there is a good ice creamery across the street to make it up to him.

We ventured in tonight for dinner. The service was excellent- we weren't in a hurry or trying to catch a ferry, yet they were quick and attentive. The food was amazing - my husband and I both had a different style steak. The meat was perfectly cooked and very flavorful. The sides were yummy too and the vanilla creme brûlée was so good! We will definitely come eat here again!

Nice bar with great service. We did not have dinner, but did enjoy a couple appetizers. The food was good and staff was friendly. Service was almost too efficient... which we attribute to the ferry schedule. Once the waitress realized we were there to watch the game and were in no hurry to leave, we enjoyed our visit all the more. If you are not in a hurry, you should state this upfront so your food and bill do not arrive too quickly.

We ended up here while on a day trip exploring the other side of the Sound. It was reviewed well and seemed pretty convenient to the ferry, so we gave it a shot. Ehhh... not so much. Their patio was a good way to soak up the later summer sun, but that's all Main Street Ale House really has going for it. For the price we paid, the prime rib should have been melt in your mouth awesome. Despite being decently cooked, it was chewy enough that I had to set it aside after eating half of it. The wife had the Scatter Platter, thinking she couldn't go wrong with deep friend seafood. She didn't end up finishing her plate either. Probably the most disappointing thing was our wine was warm. Not like room temperature warm, but rather sitting in a hot kitchen warm. We ended up plucking ice out of our water, waters that seemed to be empty more than they were full, to cool down our wine. Did I mention it was red wine? Yes, ice in red wine. It was DELICIOUS. If we find ourselves in the area again, we'll likely look elsewhere.

Wish they'd spent time and money to paint and clean instead of investing in the place next door. Food is consistantly good, they used to have the brst Ruebens around which are now missing from the menu. Last time I went in I was b y myself and sat at the bar for a burger and service was way below what I usually experience-sermed like I was invisible.

How is this place getting such good reviews?!? Went there for my aunts birthday lunch today and not only was our service slow and inconsiderate but our food was Denny's quality with a much higher price tag. Upon being asked about separate checks our server, Jason, rolled eyes eyes and gave a big sigh. dude, we were a six top, you had maybe three tables, not rocket science. We waiting a long time for drinks and he didn't even bring all the waters we ordered. He then disappeared while we waited to order. Got our order in, waited a long time for how busy the place was. When we finally got our food it was cold, my sons calamari was undercooked and chewy and my aunts fish was sticky. When I asked to have the calamari cooked more, he argued with me. Classy! For the prices they charge I expect better quality and some actual service. We had to flag him down to get refills on water and tea. Never going back! And if you value you money and taste buds you will avoid it too!

Great food, friendly service. Great patio overlooking the harbor. Good selection of local beers on tap. Highly recommend the fish and chips with a bowl of clam chowder. Dungeness crab melt was a hit at our table also.

  • Caroline S.

A great place to meet out of town guests. A nice range of choices on the menu allows for different palates. The beer selection is quite fine, as well as the choice of wines. The pear salad is exquisite and sure to please. The char-broiled wild salmon is amazing!

  • Fred F.

Decent food though not intelligently thought out at times. Expensive at times. Ambiance sucky. Interior ok, but busy. Portion side on the small. Olive Garden would be much better because it is consistent and better portion size. For example, a special pasta dish offered with garlic, veggies and red peppered light buttered sauce without a consideration of say perhaps friggin prawns??!! We are at a Ferry Terminal near the water. What no seafood ? Idiots. Ordered said special from the manager who tended our table and asked why prawns were not in the entree. Deer in the headlamps response. " that actually sounds really good ..." What?! Maybe it's the stinky ferry landing and putrid crap water at the terminal affecting cranial matter?

    (2)
  • Michael J.

Chef Ben knows what is going on. Creative with products he has to create specials. Always ask for the Ben special. His latest creation was a ribeye in bun, taste like a great philly to me. Ben helps create the menu weekly, so it is a'll ways fresh if you go often. Many beers on tap, looks like they need to expand.

We dined at this restaurant TWICE during our most recent visit to the peninsula. The first vista was because it had gotten so many great reviews on YELP; the second time because it was so good! The first night we dined there, I had the burger and fries while my husband enjoyed a pasta dish with vodka sauce off the daily specials menu. Both meals were excellent. The burger good, and the fries were hot and crispy. His meal was also incredibly flavorful and well seasoned. We enjoyed our meal so much that we went back to the restaurant two night later. On the second visit, I had the prime rib dinner with vegetables and mashed red potatoes off the specials menu, and my husband enjoyed the linguini and clams. For an appetizer, I ordered their clam chowder (off the regular menu) and my husband had the smoked salmon chowder off the daily specials menu. Both chowders were incredibly rich and creamy, and mine was chocked full of clams. In fact, it was one of the best cups of chowder I've ever had. My prime rib came exactly as I'd ordered it (medium rare) and the eight ounce slab was relatively lean and not fatty like so many prime rib cuts are. The vegetables were cooked perfectly and the mashed red potatoes were chunky and well seasoned. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a nice meal out.

Downhill. Suggested this place for a family meet-up. Been before and it was fine. This time: not so much! Felt like a few gray-haired ladies and a toddler were not their preferred clientele. Too bad! I have never felt so unwelcome. And the food was awful. Cold, undercooked and not fresh.

  • Emma F.

The waitress here introduced me to Magic Hat #9 beer. I had to give it 4 stars for that alone. The food is your average sysco pub fare. Nothing spectacular but good enough. The real draw here is the view, if you can get a seat on the patio on a sunny day with a cold beer, it's practically heaven.

Stopped for a quick dinner before a show. Food was great, beer was cold. Nice atmosphere. We will return.

    (5)
  • Jessica P.

A little pricey. Ask for the calamari with a little extra spice on it and it is perfect. A great beer selection and the inside bar is quit. Outside there is it much of a view and you can hear everyone's conversation around you.

A great place for lunch out on the deck when it's sunny and warm, or as it can be wet and Rainey here,it's cosy and comfortable inside. The service has always been pleasant and attentive with out being bothersome. We take the ferry over 3-4 times a year. Today I had the BLTA and fries, outstanding the sourdough bread had a nice toast on it, the sandwich had plenty of bacon, avocado and tomatoes. The portions are plentiful with out being to much. My traveling companion had the roasted garlic ginger salad, also excellent. Passing through its a great place to have a meal and wait for the next ferry or possible even the one after that

Amazing ham and gruyere sandwich. Service was super prompt and friendly. Had great seats on their deck on a warm and sunny day. Definitely worth checking out!

I live in Kingston and love that the Ale House offers Seattle-quality food on this side of the water. They Mojitos are to DIE for! I also love the fish tacos (lunch menu) and the gumbo is especially great on a cold day or when you need some comfort food. It may be a small restaurant, but it has big flavor and friendly staff. Don't go in a hurry - this is a place to sit back and enjoy your meal.

Got dinner while waiting for the ferry. When the order took longer than expected and we missed the boat we were planning on they change our order on the fly and we dined in instead of taking out. The food and service were great and we would very much come again!

  • Liz O.

If you appreciate good food, a nice beer selection, and a sweet staff all at a reasonable price and in a comfortable atmosphere... well then you probably will like Main Street Ale House! My favorite? Their home-made *spicy* potato chips dipped in barbecue sauce. Though their burgers are memorable (and HUGE), the potato chips are something special.

Went there for Father's Day with the family. The food and service was outstanding. We started off with garlic cheese toast, hot crab dip and clam chowder. Large portions, enough for the four of us to share. Highly recommend the garlic cheese toast. Not your average cheese toast, comes with sun-dried tomatoes and bell peppers. For dinner, I had the Cowboy steak. Best rib-eye steak I have had in some time. The ale house sauce was awesome. The steak was very tender and could cut with a fork. Topped this off with warm apple cobbler ala mode. Again, not disappointed. Every bite was enjoyable. Strongly recommend that if you are in or traveling through Kingston, you stop in, enjoy an excellently prepared meal, served by a friendly staff. Say hi to Joe, Derrick, Bobby and Carly for me.

Midway through our meal, we realized we'd miscalculated the time we had before our Ferry -- our waiter (Jason) rushed in got us the food to go and helped us close out in seconds! I was blown away at how nice and pleasant he was though all this. For the 20 minutes that we sat on the deck and had a drink -- it was definitely a great experience too. I'll definitely go back there.

Had fish and chips... Frozen?! Chowder was good. Waitress and hostess were not friendly. I went back and read reviews to make sure I was in the right place.

I had a candied garlic spinach salad yesterday. The candied garlic was not soft. I told the waitress that the garlic was crunchy. She agreed that the garlic should not be raw. She came back from the kitchen and told me that she had nothing else to offer me and they did nothing to fix it. They also didn't offer to take anything off of the bill. The word GARLIC was in the title of the salad. The salad was not prepared properly, and it didn't taste right. The salad was disappointing and the service was even more disappointing. I think there should have been a better solution than nothing.

It was a sunny day and we got to sit on the deck. I had some nice steamers, some (clam, never chicken) strips and chips, and a cold pint of Iron Horse Irish Death. The food was decent and the service was attentive. I liked it enough to have a second beer. Okay, I probably would have had one anyway. I'll go back.

    (3)
  • J C.

Three stars for the outside seating on the deck & view. Service was super slow, food was not impressive. I had the candied garlic spinach salad with grilled chicken. Pretty sure the chicken was grilled days before, spinach was drenched in dressing making it soggy. The candied garlic was not candied... more like boiled in oil 2 weeks ago & the goat cheese was runny. Not delicious!

We are so happy that we found Main Street Ale House! We stopped in for a late night dinner and were not disappointed. The clam chowder was quite possibly the best I've ever had, my one and only complaint would be the saltines provided (I pledged my allegiance to oyster crackers many years ago).

  • Scott E.

I love this place! I just happened to be passing through, noticed this place, and stopped in. They are motorcycle friendly (the owner rides). Nice beer selection, local breweries that I haven't tried. I had the fried razor clams for lunch, which were great, and I especially liked the cocktail sauce. The best part was the owners. They were incredibly friendly and warm, really lovely people.

    (5)
  • Anne F.

Crabcake and the pear salad - yummy! I really liked that the blue cheese crumbles weren't too strong on the salad. Wait staff was attentive. Would definitely return.

  • Lauren M.

Been here a handful of times and I am always impressed! The atmosphere is casual, comfy and friendly. The wait staff is always attentive, friendly and maintains the decor based on the season or holiday. We asked the manager what beer he recommends and he gave us a few samples of his favorite ones to make sure we ordered one that we liked. I recommend trying their fish and chips and a beer. Really close to the Kingston ferry if you have time to kill before departing!

  • Fiona F.

I've never seen such a diverse menu that still manages to be cohesive. They have a little something for everybody, even the most particular customer. The food was amazing and their beer selection is vary large. I ordered the Manila steamers and my friend had the gumbo. On top of all this, they're service is lovely. They definitely make you feel valued.

The Ale House is a great spot! If you're looking for someplace new or something to enjoy after a long day, the patio is great, the ales are plentiful and DIVINE, and everyone is so nice. I've read a lot of the other reviews, and I think that the restaurant staff has a great capacity to read and revise the things they've been critiqued on: I didn't have any issues listed elsewhere.

I have a supreme "dislike" for this place. A friend of mine hosts Karaoke here and when she does we have made the trip to the Alehouse to support her. Now I usually love Karaoke, but this place is definitely not for anyone under the age of 45. The Alehouse is very small and fills up quick with lots and lots of people 45+ ..... thus making the songs sung at Karaoke super lame. Lots of OLD OLD OLD songs. Also the singers are over the top. They move through the crowd singing, dancing, and rubbing up on people and this place is too small for that. There are so many people that 25-35 crowd doesn't get a chance to sing because the geriatrics hog the microphone. Unfortunately for my friend, I cannot take another night if this and will not be going back there... unless they can promise to keep the old folks out.

Always wanting to support local businesses, my grandparents took me here when I was home from college for a nice dinner. Everything was excellent. The Alehouse has been under new ownership for almost a year and both the owners visited our table that night. My grandpa and I ordered the spanikopita, which was flaky and packed with spinach. My grandmother ordered clams, which were soaked in a lemon sauce. Not the best clam sauce I've ever had, but thr manila clams were high quality and very tasty. The highlight of the meal was our appetizer! We ordered calamari for the table, and it was the BEST calamari I've ever tasted. Highly highly highly recommended.

Waiting for ferry rides can give a lot of time to explore the area around the terminal.. and while waiting for our labor day vessel home, we decided to tour around and grab a beer and some bites. We set our sights on Main Street Ale House, because.. well.. the name.. ALE! What establishment wouldn't be good with the word "ale" in their name! We walk in and head straight for the bar.. Scope out the beer selection and we were told by one of the waiters that we could either sit inside or sit on the patio. We opt for the patio and head out. There are a bustling number of waiters/waitresses working and we are thinking, hey.. this should be quick.... We sit for a few minutes.. a party of three shows up and is seated. They get their menus.. we continue to sit.. One waiter looks at us and just passes us.. (still sitting...)The guy that told us to take a seat sees us and still doesn't do anything.. This same guy comes back out with a tray of three waters.. Which clearly wasn't for us. He walks by us, and attends to the party of three.. and we sit there wondering whats happening.. Needless to say, we left and found an establishment down the street. There were plenty of workers so I am not really sure what the issue was with the slow and poor service.

Great place. For a little adventure my husband and I walked on the ferry in Edmonds, enjoyed a sunny ferry ride and hit the ale house. We both found the tap list to be top notch with a menu to match. We sat at the bar and were served by the owner. When the night as over we walked down the block and enjoyed a moonlight ferry ride back. Follow our lead - it was a pretty fun date. (we both had steak and the meals were great) We've been through Kingston one time since and we didn't think twice about where to go for lunch. We sat inside with the kids and it was another great visit. (we had burgers - two thumbs up from everyone)

We used to frequent the Ale House when it was actually located on "main street" and loved the place! It had excellent food, beer selection, and consistently great service. It moved to a new location and is sharing space with another restaurant in Bothell. We've been there twice now: 1st time - food was decent, service super slow (memorable); 2nd time (last night) - service non-existent, and we left. We were initially greeted by a server as we walked into the bar side of the room and she said she would bring menus out to us. We sat at a table that was dirty with the check and glasses/napkins, etc. We waited 7 minutes at this dirty table - while we watched this server make several trips into the restaurant, back and forth, and we watched the bartender who never left his bar. We finally decided to leave and as we stood up, the server was just walking back by us again and as she saw us leaving said "Thanks" as though we had dined there. Then the realization appeared to come over her that we had never been properly taken care of and I just told her it was too late. We won't be going back. The place simply isn't the same. I gave it two stars as opposed to one because I know that at least they do have good food - at least they used to!

The Ale House is an amazing place to go to get a feel for the small town of Kingston. The new owners are genuinely warm and friendly and want to make sure their customers are content and feel at home. The front bar area has a comfy pub feel with bar and table seating and the back has booth seating with a more private setting. The patio has an amazing view of apple tree cove and is open during the sunnier months. ;) Along with the homey, warm, and comfortable atmosphere, the food is truly amazing. There is something for everyone on the menu from surf and turf to chicken tenders and the prices are the same. If you're hungry and don't want to spend too much the appetizers are tasty and filling, but if you want to splurge a bit, go for the filet minon, wow! SO yummy! ...and the ceasar salad, or clam chowder from scratch...either will make your eyes roll to the back of your head. lol New owners, new feel, great atmosphere, and Amazing food! Just go, you won't regret it, I swear....OH! Almost forgot a most important ingredient! ...As for spirits, their local tap beers are scrumptious and their selection of wine is vast, and with great bartenders they can whip up any tasty conconction you wish!

I loved this place, they did great work with the space they have available. The servers are all very friendly and the food was AMAZING!! I'd give em a 5 star if parking was easier to get there.

Went here while waiting for the ferry after a day of fishing. Sat outside, and our drinks were served quickly. Our server took our order, brought us some bread, and seemed to have disappeared. We wanted to order more drinks. Next time we saw her she was bringing us our dinner about a half hour later. I had the chicken marsala which was excellent. Other than that 30 minutes of inattentiveness, It wasn't a bad experience at all and the food was great.

My fiance and I walked in on a Friday night. The place was busy, but not packed. We stood by the door for 5 minutes waiting for the waitstaff to acknowledge us or even just tell us to sit anywhere. After waiting, we spotted menus and figured we'd peruse until the waitstaff had the time for us. I stood in a spot where the waitress would have to walk past me. She squeezed by me several times, never said a word. A customer came up and complimented me on my top, but the waitstaff never acknowledged us. After 10 minutes of looking over the menu while standing in the middle of the restaurant and waiting to be recognized as customers, we left. I have never felt so awkward at a restaurant in my entire life. I was really excited about their beer and food menu, but don't think we'll be going back. It was the most unnerving experience. We walked up the street to the Filling Station which acknowledged us right away.

I enjoyed my visit to the Main Street Ale House. I have been here in years past with the old owners and it was a big "MEH" The service was crap, the food was even worse and I just couldn't find a reason to come back. I have heard great things since they changed the owners and I am pleased to confirm those great things! We sat in the bar area since the dining room was packed and the service was not compromised like it can be in some restaurants. I had the salmon and it was well seasoned and perfectly cooked. The drinks were great too, the bar tender has a heavy had with the liquor which I wont be complaining about. The prices are reasonable, especially given the large portions that you get.

Consistently good food. Comfy atmosphere. But this review is mostly about the wait staff. I really liked that they treated my kids like people. They were attentive but not annoying. They were knowledgeable and friendly.

We stopped here before a ferry ride for a brew and lunch. Weekday, after the usual lunch time. We just sat up front in the bar area, were greeted quickly by three different servers, and asked our drink choice. I'm a beer fan, so I asked what was on tap. They read off their regulars and seasonals without hesitation, even let me try a taste before I decided. Food didn't take long to come out, and was outstanding. I had fish and chips, and my wife had fish tacos. Coming from CA, the fish tacos left a bit to be desired, but the slaw served with it would make a great chicken salad. My fish and chips were panko crusted, beer battered - it doesn't get better than that. My three-star is mainly because of the cost. Even at lunchtime, between two drinks and two meals we spent $40. It's a bit steep. Next time, we'll split something and maybe only one drinks. But as far as a waystop through the ferry run, it's a sight better than anything in Edmonds.

We love this place. The food is great, the service is excellent, and the choice of libations is outstanding. When we have out-of-town guests, Main Street Ale House is always on the agenda.

I have to say, the Main Street Ale House is home of one of the BEST customer service experiences I have ever, ever experienced in my entire life. Really, every employee in the establishment had a cheerful disposition and were genuinely nice and sociable. A refreshing change from some of the more utilitarian service you may expect from places on the other side of the water. I had planned a little touristy type day for my friend visiting from Denver, and we decided we would walk on the ferry and go find some trouble over in Kingston for a few hours. I had done my research and found that they did a happy hour from 4-6 pm, and after a late lunch/early dinner down the street, we mosied on in for a couple rounds here. The ambiance was lovely. It was a really, really nice space. Though we were some of the only customers sitting in the front of the restaurant, I think the back side has a better view and is more picturesque. The lovely woman taking care of us, Lara, was just amazing. She was extremely knowledgeable about the micros on tap. I started with one of my favorites, Ninkasi Total Dom IPA. I noticed that they had a TON of local Kitsap County beers on tap. They were completely out of the Silver City Whoop Pass which is one of my very favorites, so that was a bit disappointing, but the awesomeness of Lara went out of her way to give me a free tasting of about six different libations, gratis, so I could decide which one was my favorite. They stock about six different IPA's so I was in heaven. The one I had from Poulsbo's Sound Brewery, aptly named Reluctant Northwest IPA, was absolutely delicious as well. My friend, who isn't much of a micro brew drinker, ended up ordering a bourbon and coke. They have a pretty well stocked bar as well as an excellent tap selection that shows so much dedication and personal caring to what they serve to their customers. Lara was so awesome, that she even let us "sample" a little bit of bourbon, too. She filled us with many many delicious libations, and stories about living in what I consider to be one of the most beautiful areas in the world. Not only that, but since it was happy hour, our bill was ridiculously cheap. I will be back, believe me. If not for the awesome beer, and even more amazing service, but to try their food, which looks amazing. Five well deserved stars.

Great staff. We had the wild salmon tacos and crab melt, and both were very good. We came over on the ferry just to walk around town--will come back just to stop here.

From what I understand, this place takes the cake as far as food in Kingston goes. My mom lives near here, and she keeps telling me about it. Finally, this last weekend, I had the opportunity to sample the food here. I must say, the food is above-par for "ale-house food". The salads are gourmet and the list of salads is long and diverse. We split a "hearts of romaine" salad, which consisted of romaine hearts covered in blue cheese dressing, caramelized onions, and candied walnuts. Quite tasty. The sandwiches consist of a little something extra beyond the usual greasy meat/cheese pub-fare options. We split a Reuben, made with boar's head beef pastrami and some damn fine kraut. The rye was good, and they did a great job of NOT making it super greasy. Thank you for that! All in all, I rate the food well. The other salad options looked both delicious and enticing (and all fairly gourmet). The other sandwich options seemed intriguing as well. They had a few soups, and some decent looking fried options (for those hung over/drunken cravings). The fries were quite delicious - seasoned with pepper and kosher salt. Crispy and not terribly greasy. Beware, however, the split plate fee. We were idiots, and told the server we were splitting the salad/sandwich. She brought them out all split for us... how nice! Until we noticed that she charged us $2 for splitting the food. We would have been better off not mentioning it and splitting it ourselves. Live and learn, I guess. On to the beer. For an alehouse, the list was a bit shorter than expected. Approximately 12 (give or take) beers on tap. The menu had them separated by pales/goldens, IPA's, and Stouts/Porters. I partook of the Main Street Pale (actually the local Dosewallops renamed for the ale house). It was a very tasty pale ale. I guess that compared to what else Kingston has to offer, this beer selection is par excellence, but coming from PDX, with places like Concordia and Belmont Station, this selection seemed merely so-so. I guess its not fair to punish the Ale House based on such distant competition, so I'll give it 4-stars. If this place were in Seattle or Portland, it would only merit 3... but in Kingston, a solid 4. The back porch is quite nice, weather permitting, and the back section inside is quite cozy. The service is merely ok. Our food took FOREVER (and the place was not crowded at all), and when our server was asked about the wait, we got some attitude rather than apology (and we were nice about asking). That, and the failure to warn us about the $2 split-plate fee, aside, the experience was positive overall. I would recommend this place for lunch, and especially for a beer if you happen to be stuck on a 3-ferry wait to get back to Seattle.

I'm a big beer guy so any place that has a large selection of craft beers gets my vote. Combine this with great food and I'm sold. This is the spot to go on a sunny day in Kingston.

Stopped here for a tasty bloody while awaiting the ferry. Service was great, bartender was sweet and the spicy Mary hit the spot! We were just bummed we couldn't stick around for the live music.

I think this is the best place to eat in Kingston - great food, cool spot. The beer selection is not huge, but I do think there's something for everyone! And if you don't know some of the beers, they're more than happy to bring out a sample (or two, like we had!) of the beers! Being a non-Seafood eater, the selection was limited for me but not bad... we had chicken strips, a delicious burger, clam chowder and some beers. The back deck gets the perfect amount of sun, so check it out if it's a nice day!!

Ate here with the husband yesterday. I ordered the stuffed chicken, which at first I was disappointed that I did not taste ANY goat cheese (I love goat cheese, and was expecting at least a hint of it), but then I ate the chicken with the sauce on the side. The sauce was amazing, it had a faint flavor lavender. That made the meal right there. The husband ordered the crab melt, which I had a bite of and will be ordering that in the future, as it was an incredible mix of flavors. Minus one star for the time it took for our food to come out (around 35 minutes).

Great location being right by the ferry. Good menu for "ferry bites" so you can get in and out quick if needed. Lots of beer handles that rotate through various local beers. Live music and karaoke during the week and open mic also. Recommend more than the time allowed by a ferry wait to enjoy the full experience of this quaint Ale House and get seated on the back deck during appropriate weather. Ignore reviews from the 20 something year olds, etc. This is not the typical "bar scene" but an upscale place that they likely are not used to.

A friend told us that one of their favorite combination kid friendly/adults day out activites in Edmonds is to walk down and take the ferry across to Kingston, walk around town a little bit, sit on the back deck of the Main Street Ale House, eat some lunch and drink a couple beers. So on a nearly perfect day earlier this week, that's exactly what we did. It was definitely a great activity even if the Main Street Ale House was a little underwhelming. I don't even know why I was underwhelmed by the place. The food was good - I had a delicious open faced Dungeness Crab melt that was chock full of crab and the wife had crab dip that was basically the same thing, but no cheese and toast. And the deck was nice with a great view of the harbor. But I agree with some of the other reviews, for an ale house, the beer list was pretty weak. I did have a Dabob Bay IPA from the local Hood Canal Brewery that was pretty good. And something else wasn't quite right, but I can't put my finger on it. Perhaps the high prices? I don't know. Nonetheless, it was a nice ride to Kingston and a trip that we'd recommend to anybody that needs a good combo kid/adult day out.

My friend and I came here on a "day trip" to Kingston from Edmonds. When we got there we sat out on the deck and asked if they were serving happy hour, even though it was a Saturday. Our server told us they were, so we each ordered a drink and an appetizer. Once our beer was almost gone she came back to apologize and said they didn't realize it was Saturday and they weren't serving HH. We were so disappointed and decided to not order anything else. The prices were pretty high and if it weren't for them telling us it was HH we probably wouldn't have stayed. On the plus side, the do offer a great tap list.

Best thing about the Ale House for me, the water! It tasted great. Really enjoyed it. Went with Mom and Grandma. I liked their sweet potato fries with sea salt and the slightly spicy sauce they served with them. Not a big fan of sweet potato fries, but these were tasty. Fish and chips were OK, I didn't eat the Asian slaw because I don't eat slaw, but it looked really good. I felt that my french fries were a little over salted though. Wasn't a big fan of the tater sauce. It was spicy, and I usually like spicy, but it was just not for me. Mom and Grandma had Dungeness crab melts. Really enjoyed them and the chowder was outstanding. Outstanding! Great service. You could tell our waiter was use to working at night. He kept saying "this evening" and "tonight" at like 1pm. It was funny, we had a good chuckle after we left. Other food we saw come out looked good too. Did I mention the water was wonderful?

Happened upon this place on a trip up north. Great place with some good beers. Good place to kill some time waiting for the ferry.

This is a nice little place in Kingston to grab a beer or a bite to eat while waiting on the ferry or returning from the peninsula. I will occasionally meet up with friends here when visiting my parents as the food is pretty good by all standards.

Twice in the last 6 weeks my boyfriend and I have taken advantage of the gorgeous weather and taken a ferry ride over to Kingston to enjoy the day. Both times we wound up at the Main Street Ale House and felt little need to go anywhere else. Sit out on the patio, soaks up some rays and relish the vibe. Waitstaff was very attentive, quite friendly and always ready with suggestions. We washed down some totally yummy steamers and a heaping plate of perfectly pan fried oysters with a local microbrew. The place is not cheap but well worth the price. Walk on to the ferry instead of driving and the money you save can go to your beer fund. I wish I lived on this side of the bay so I could go here more often.

This restaurant has the worst service on earth. There are 5 on waitstaff and only 14 customers and no one getting the fing food. There are flies EVERYWHERE to boot! If I could give negative stars I would!!!

I went here a few days ago on a day trip to Kingston with my friends. We sat out on the deck and had a lovely view of the water. After about 15 minutes of waiting for our order, a waitress finally(who was very friendly) came over and asked us what we would like to drink. We promptly gave her our drink order and added our food orders too, in fear that we may have to wait 15 minutes again. We received our drinks shortly after we ordered them, but then had to wait about a half an hour for us to receive our food. All of our food was great, but the amount it took was a bit annoying. All in all it was good experience, I enjoyed my meal and recommend anyone to go here if they are in the area, just be warned you may be there awhile.

We've been here for lunch and dinner and often stop on our way back from Seattle when we come back from visiting our son. They have some interesting, in a good way, entrees, and we've never had a bad meal at either lunch or dinner. It's sort of quirky but that only adds to the charm.

Candied Garlic Salad? Count me in! Crab Melt? Oh yes! Steamed clams? Please! This place was a terrific spot to wait for the ferry. Nice deck outside. Great food. Only disappointment was the beer selection...surprisingly limited.

Never again would I eat at this restaurant as we arrived there @ 8:00pm for a late dinner. Karoke was going on at front of bar area, so we were seated in rear with a full kitchen view. We waited over 30 mins for our meal and were entertained by watching the staff cooking. Service was slow, and they apologized, as there were very few people there. Just after finishing my fish and chips and my husband had the Spanakopita, we observed the main chef placing his hands and using them to lean from the grill vent. Now I know from working in the buisness that is the dirtiest place in the kitchen. Ewww. we then observed him pick his nose and then continue cooking without washing his hands. At that time I was DISGUSTED!!!. THought about pointing this out to mangement, but there was none to be found except 2 waitresses that were too busy trying to close the dining room down. Needless to say, I'd rather eat at McDonalds than have to go through that ordeal again....Looks like management needs to do a kitchen talkin' to.....

Food exceeded expectations for a pub. The staff was super friendly. We walked to the back of the restaurant for a view of the water. I had some amazing clam chowder and my husband had some salmon fish tacos. Everything was delightful except for the lemonade (it wasn't mixed well and was super strong in a definitely not real-lemondade way). Would come again.

We stopped in here before getting in the ferry line, and we were met with a very warm welcome. Service was attentive and helpful. Very good selection of draft beers; much better deal to order a pitcher ($5 for a pint, $15 for a pitcher). I had the dungeness crab melt, and it was awesome! I loved the atmosphere of the place, and I have to say it's the first "bar" where golf was on TV (The Master's), and everyone was cheering and high-fiving. It was a lot of fun! I will definitely go back if I find myself in Kingston again.

I would say this is my favourite place in Kitsap County. The Pear Salad and Dungeness Crab Melts were delicious, but what really kicked it up to 5 stars for me was the service. Our waiter was absolutely on the ball the entire time, even as the restaurant filled up, and very responsive to shifting drink orders as our evening progressed.

While on an outing to check out the awesome car show at Port Gamble we decided to take the scenic route home and stopped in Kingston for a look and a bite. We just happened on the Ale House and when we realized they had outdoor seating we ventured in. What a lucky choice! We had a burger and a Reuben and both were delicious. NO fat on a generous portion of pastrami and a great mixed green salad with a very tasty honey vinaigrette dressing. We saw other patrons enjoying the Sweet Summer Corn Soup so decided to share a bowl and see for ourselves what the fuss was about. It was spectacular and our server was not the least annoyed when I asked what was in it. He spoke to the cook and came back with a list of ingredients. I have made good Corn Chowder in the past but never quite this good. I will make it again using the information I was provided. The staff was friendly, efficient and good natured. It is a bit unusual for us to have such a good experience while "roading" it. Today we were very lucky and if we lived closer we would be regulars.

My friend and I found the Main Street Ale House in the late '90s after a long day of bike riding around the Peninsula. The food is outstanding, and it was so nice to sit outside on the back deck and enjoy the sunset. In the cooler months, they put heaters on the deck. We told my folks about it, and they love it, too. Now, whenever we visit family in Seattle and Edmonds, we make a point to take a ferry trip to Kingston and the Main Street Ale House. (I don't drink beer, so I can't comment on that, but I've had many terrific mixed drinks here.) They used to have karaoke on certain nights - I think they still do this. ------------------------------------------------------- Update: We were in Seattle recently, and of course, we went to the Main Street Ale House, and as usual, it was excellent! It was a beautiful day, and we sat outside. I have a wheat allergy, so I got the crab melt without the English muffin, and it was very good. The cocktails are still fabulous, and we had a great time (again)!

Small, cozy dining area in the back so keep going past the bar which takes up the front half of the restaurant. Delicious, home-style food in generous portions. Try the meatloaf, its better than Mom used to make. Save room for dessert, they are all fresh made daily and make you want to order the sweet stuff first and forget about dinner.
