L’Artisan French Bakery Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Good European pastries are hard to find in the Seattle area, but these are worth the trip to Silver Lake! My dad grew up in the Netherlands and loves mocha, so I ordered a mocha cake for my parents' 60th wedding anniversary celebration. The look in his eyes really said it all!

Visited this little shop with a friend today. We both had a mocha and a cream puff but everything we saw looked amazing! It's a bit cramped for space if trying to bring in a whole family. Most of their tables seemed to be for 2. They also had a few tables outside. I would love to come back here and try something new. Maybe even take home a whole cake. They looked amazing!

This bakery was around the area we were running errands, so we decided to stop by and see if it was any good. It is located in a small strip mall area in Silver Lake. My usual go to at a bakery is an eclair but today I decided to go with the crime puff and I'm glad I did. It was delicious! My husband got the chocolate eclair which had a chocolate filling. That one was good as well it was just a lot of chocolate. The prices were pretty high being that they were the same we pay at a bakery in downtown Seattle and this was all the way out by Everett which was a little weird. There is one case that is filled with desserts and another that's filled with breads so there isn't a lot of selection but what they do have looked good. I would definitely return and would like you try other options next time.

Beautiful and fresh, and a good spot too for me to walk to when I'm craving something fancy. Right by the lake and with some nice little tables. The almond croissants are amazing.

Somewhat characterless place. My plain croissant was nothing special. Place is clean and the service was very friendly.

The desserts are okay. I watched what looked like the owner lady belittling her employees, which left a bad taste in my mouth. Check yourself before you wreck yourself!

Dedicated Artist in his studio! Super desserts for party or pastries for morning snack. L'artist is in the house. C'est bon!

I WISH I COULD EAT EVERY PASTRY THEY HAVE! The smells, the tastes...so DELICIOUS! Stopped in here one day while out in Silver lake.....this place is family owned and run! Everything is made with BUTTER, not oil or lard or crap...but real BUTTER! My mother used to make wedding cakes for a living, and she makes a mean lemon curd...well she makes a mean baked ANYTHING and I was terrified to try their lemon tart...What if it's worse? Oh, but what if it's BETTER!? It was amazing. Very close to moms, but it had a thicker, gritty texture to it that I actually fell in LOVE with. There is also a little dollop of what tasted like raspberry preserve on the bottom. Fantastic! Their almond croissant....my husband will fight me to the death for the last bite! They have a killer meal deal for around $12 or so...you get a pastry from the cooler (you get to pick from all but a small few, and I've paid for the ones not included, I actually like the others more), a sandwich or quiche AND a beverage! Amazing...can't beat it! Anytime my girlfriend and I spend the day together, we always start it off with some L'Artisan! I only have one caution here; since it is owned by a married couple, sometimes tempers can flare in a very tangible and audible way. I have seen the owners wife be very loud and short with the girls behind the counter, but i've also seen her light the whole place up with her smile....such is life!

It is very, very dangerous that this place is only ten minutes from my house. We have gone back several more times (ok - more than several - I do love their almond croissants and their cappucino!). The hubby and I have now tried a few more things: Almost croissant - still my favorite - INCREDIBLE! Quiche Lorraine - FANTASTIC! Perfect. Pear and Cheese Tart - HOLY COW - CRAZY GOOD! The crust - the filling - just amazing. Chocolate Ganache - Chocolate Heaven. Needless to say we will be back to try more items. Like any great bakery - go early for best selection. What a jewel of a bakery. YUM.

As I've been missing French food I decided I would go on a hunt for authentic French cuisine. This definitely brought me back to France. I've been here twice and will definitely be back for more!

French pastries done to perfection and rival those sold in patisseries in France. The cream cheese croissant was light and flaky. I ate breakfast there and came back to buy desserts. The chocolate eclairs were delightful. Also loved the cream puff and coffee eclairs. A bit pricy but well worth it if you want authentic French pastries. Highly recommend this bakery.

We have stopped here a few times for bread and pastry. The French bread is excellent, as well as croissants. My husband said the creme puffs were good as well. I have tried a few cakes, which were ok but not my favorite. I just thought they were a little bland, even though They looked beautiful. They carefully box each purchase so your goodies make it home safe.

Brazilian mocha cake was old and dry tasting. Macaroons were also old and dry tasting. Disappointed after everything looked so nice.

Finally decided to check out the bakery. I went mid day Sunday and the selection wasn't great due to the fact that they didn't make a large volume due to being closed on Mondays. I got the lemon tart, fruit tart, peach tart and raisin croissant. The raisin croissant was really good. I would get it again. The tarts were average. Nothing to rave about. The puff pastry for the tarts were over cooked. The price is pretty munch between $3 -$4.

I happened to find myself North of Seattle. I was off the beaten path and saw this bakery a few miles away. What the heck? French pastries? I'm in! My navigation was less than accurate so I passed it once and had to double back. Tucked away in a small strip mall, you'll find this lovely bakery. I keep my hands in my pockets at bakeries telling myself, "Just get a few things. Geez! Not that! Do you know how many carbs is in that? Seriously? Your ass doesn't need that much sugar." That goes on for 4 minutes or so. I walked away with a croissant and cream puff. A croissant is one of the standards by which I judge bakeries. It was very light an airy and although buttery, not so much where it was too heavy. There was also an egg wash on the surface of the croissant and I have mixed feelings on that. The cream puff...wow! If you look at my picture, it was mostly cream. It's not a bad thing, I just found it refreshing to get a nice portion of cream filling. The chocolate paired really well with the cream, which was not too sweet and a bit more eggy than I'm used to. Service was friendly and fast. I found the selection a bit small but that could be because it was on a Saturday afternoon so I won't hold that against them. I'm really glad I visited this place and will likely do so again, very soon.

I haven't been to this shop personally, but my friend got me an almond pear pastry tart here! It was good enough for me to write a review about this place :) I thought that the pasty was pretty well made and tasty! The tart crust was pretty good, but what made the tart was that the base they used was made with real almonds. I could taste the small almond chunks, which I really enjoyed, as I am a HUGE almond fan! The sliced pears on the tart were a nice touch, but I felt that slices were pretty thin, and too syrup-y sweet. Nevertheless, I still thought it was a great pastry. I will re-review this place when I actually go and visit it!

The pastries, coffee, and sandwiches are pretty great here. I stop in whenever I'm in the area and interested in pastries. I like the almond and chocolate croissants best. In the interest of full disclosure, I should mention that I worked here years ago, and the owner Rosanna is miserable to work for. Jacques was always nice, but I couldn't take more than a couple weeks of working for his wife. So, remember to tip the kids working there well!

Having been low-carbing for the past few months, I finally decided I needed a break. What better way to cheat than with a decedent French pastry? I chose a couple Napoleons and a fruit tart (not all for me, I didn't cheat THAT much!). I don't know if it was the fact that I haven't had anything sweet in so long or the fact that it was just THAT good, but OMG that Napoleon was delicious! At the moment, that is my #1 cheat spot for next time.

Most of the pastries were sold out when I came. However, I was able to get the lemon tart, cream puff, and a frazier. They were very beautiful to the eye and very tasty. The lemon tart had a nice flavor. Everything was good. Next time, I will try to come early for more options. The service was great. They were very careful boxing up the items.

I was looking for a birthday cake around the area and decided to try this place. I like my cake moist, not to bread(y) and not too sweet on the icings. I asked the staff for a recommendation and they said chocolate ganache is their moist(est) cake. So I got it for my sis bday and it was a hit. The kids said the cake was delicious like abt 3-4x that night. My mom who is also picky like me said the cake was good. It is a tad bit sweet but still good. Highly recommended.

If you are in the mood for some fabulous french pastries, croissants, tarts, fresh bread, etc. this is the place. Every time I introduce someone new to this place the reaction is the same..."how did I not know this existed"! The selection is wonderful and I don't think you can go wrong. The only problem is trying to decide what to get. When I need a nice dessert to take to a party and want to impress this is where I go. But especially on the weekends you need to go early for the whole tarts and cakes for best selection, the line starts early. They sell everything in single servings too. And the owners and the folks that work there couldn't be sweeter. They have a cafe menu and do great lattes a well. I could go on and on. Go check out this little jewel of a place!!

L'Artisan pastries are fantastic and the best we've had in the area, including the various pastry purveyors at Pike Place market. Flavors a layered and complex. I love that most of their pastries have a "surprise" flavor, like a thin layer of raspberry along the crust or a hint of orange in another. The chocolate eclair is one of our regular favorites and a must try. The coffee eclair is also excellent and one of my personal favorites. The presentation is equally impressive and it's difficult to decide what to take home each time we go.

The missus and I went here the other day for a pastry breakfast. Really good. We had almond croissants. Very very good. They had three cases. Two appeared to be dedicated to some awesome cakes and other desserts. The chocolate ganache cake looked amazing. They had a number of croissants I very much intend to try. Along the back they have a collection of breads that certainly look better than most of the generic stuff you find in a grocery store. My missus and I share a slice of ham and cheese quiche as well. Holy crap. The best quiche I think I've ever had. It was layered first with the perfect of amount of ham -- not too much and not too little -- and cheese. On top of that, the egg mixture was light and fluffy and flavorful. I can't get my head around how it was so light, but I would totally recommend it. The only weak part was the coffee I got. My missus got a cappuccino that she was very happy with. I got a regular espresso. I felt it was a bit weak.

I go to this place almost every weekend for breakfast. The menu is not very fancy but simple and just what I want, fresh food. The desserts are suuupeer good and they have a nice variety. My favorite ones are the Fruit Tart and the Brazilian Mocha. I really like it the place feels unique around this area.

If you're looking for a real French bakery in the north end not only is this your ONLY choice (that place by QFC in Mill Creek is NOT French despite its name), but it is a GREAT choice! I'm a true francophile, and these pastries and bread rank right up there with those I've enjoyed in many Parisian bakeries. Yum! I would, however, love to see a little more authenticity in the sandwiches, which are mostly American sandwich ideas done on baguettes. I'd love a great Jambon Cru, for example. The lack of a fryer also means they can't make one of my kids' favorite treats from bakeries in France: "les chouquettes' which disappoints them each time we go, as they always ask. It would also be fabulous if they at least endeavored to hire some folks who maybe speak some French, as one of our favorite things to do at Le Panier at Pike Place is chat with staff in French - they always seem to have at least one person working who speak the language. That last point really isn't a downside to the place, it would just be a fun addition. I also agree with the reviewer who said it feels like a hospital cafeteria in there, there really is no ambiance at all, but the food more than makes up for any of that...it really is FANTASTIC!

Stopped by here on Valentine's Day for the first time...and omg the minute we walked in and saw their selection my husband and I were literally drooling! Everything we got was heavenly delish from their Snow White and cherry ganache, to the eclairs, and the passion fruit and coconut was to die for! Will be a regular for sure!

I had been suppressing my curiosity for a while to go and find this place calling itself a "French bakery" and finally on my anniversary I coaxed my husband into going to look for it! I'm so glad I did!! Having spent some time in Paris and around the south of France, I was hesitant to expect anything like what I ate in France. I was so excited when I saw that the front of this store was a glass view into the bakery itself. It takes a lot of confidence for any food operation to put the guts of the business on full display to its customers. It really impressed on me before I even entered that there was a lot of pride in this place. We got there at a little past 5 pm, and this bakery closes at 6. The first thing the girls up front say after their cheery greetings is "This is your first time here? I'm so sorry! The selections a little low at this time of day. I hope you can fine something you like!" Now at the time they are apologizing, I am standing in front of the case with my mouth open in total disbelief. There were well over a half dozen choices of cakes, several breads and croissants of various types like I haven't seen since I left Europe. I was delighted! And the coffee!!!!! It was just right! Americans brew their coffee with really hot hot water and for a long time. It's just the way most of us drink it. But... Well, I don't. To me, it makes it unnecessarily bitter and brings out the muddy flavors. You have to add sugar and milk to make it palatable. Most people complain that the coffee in Europe is weak, but I like it. I don't have to add sugar and cream. I can just drink it black or get a dry cappuccino. The coffee here is like that. It made me really happy. We ordered three deserts, I got a pear tart and my DH got a Snow White and a chocolate truffle tart. We shared and I have to say, we gobbled them up. The ganache was so smooth and silky, the tart crust was perfect, the cakes were moist and the flavor profiles were perfect. Sweet, but not sickeningly so like many places. I especially loved the tart lemony gel glaze on the top of the Snow White. It made that cake. I was determined to return to this place with my brother, who is a chef, and have him try things. So, less than a week later he and I arrived at half past 1 for lunch. The girls give me a smile and say welcome back! The selection was huge and all so beautiful. I had the quiche with a lemon tart and my brother had a sandwich and cherry turnover. He basically inhaled his food and then comments, "This place is awesome. I'm going to come back and eat the whole menu. And this is really really $&&@#%* good coffee." I couldn't really do anything but giggle, because I was still eating. The quiche was soooo good! The crust was flakey and tender. The cheese was all melted and stretchy, And the egg royal was so delicate and fluffy! It was probably the best quiche I have ever eaten in the USA. There was a liberal hand with the nutmeg for the top and the spice really tasted fresh. It came with a mixed fruits salad made of strawberries, watermelon and blueberries. I loved it. As we were leaving I was talking to my brother about the palmiers being my favorite cookie. The girls overheard us and interjected that they were fresh and then brought us a a couple to sample. They were so good, I bought a bag to take home, even if it meant making my impatient brother fret about us being late for the ferry he wanted to catch. LOL. Absolutely worth driving for and one of my new favorite places!!!

First of all, this bakery is in a strange strip mall and has an interesting entrance. The bakery itself is pretty small and not somewhere you can comfortably eat lunch or stay for a cup of coffee (in my opinion). I purchased a chocolate croissant, lemon tart, cream puff and raspberry mousse. I definitely would not buy another chocolate croissant. It was full of air and not flaky, I could get better croissants at Costco (I actually like them!). The raspberry mousse was okay, I had a bite and didn't really enjoy the taste. I feel like they could have incorporated a different element, instead of just tart raspberry mousse and cake (was it ladyfingers?). I guess the only thing that saved this review from being one star is the cream puff and lemon tart. I actually really liked the lemon tart but it may be TOO sour for others-- I'm a fan of tart treats. The cream puff was okay, nothing to rave about. Overall, I wouldn't come back unless maybe I was passing by and was really craving a lemon tart.

I have been coming to this bakery since they first opened. I am from Holland and very picky when it comes to pastries and bread! I love the Brazilian Mocha, and the Frazier! Before my husband passed away we used to come here frequently for lunch, sometimes it is to painful not to see him sitting there with me. I still do come at least once a month, pastries are to awesome and so is their chicken croissant!

Top notch desserts and service. Always a fan favorite for my wife and kids for birthdays or a special treat. Not easy to find at first as they are tucked around back in a strip mall near silver lake but great atmosphere once you find them. Highly recommend.

We stopped in for a Sunday afternoon treat after walking around Silver Lake. We chose a chocolate croissant to share. While the croissant was plenty good (about what you'd expect), the people running the joint were RUDE! Very matter of fact and not friendly in the least. We won't be back purely based on service.

This place has the best pumpkin tart ever , its only available in season. the rest of their desserts are Ok, nothing amazing in my opinion.. The croissants are not mouth watering and their sandwiches are pretty good but they are all cold, if they were grilled I would like them better !

Fantastic. I'm a regular. The quiche lunch special for brunch is amazing...all the pastries and cakes are divine...great coffee and tea, friendly service, what more can you ask for! The place is small so you may have to wait for a table, but it's worth it.

My wife being from south Belgium,is very familiar with French bakeries..gave thumbs up. We tried a couple plain croissant and a loaf of the batard(bastard) bread. At first we thought the loaf might have been old, but realized, the outside was harden crust with a fluffy inside. We were amazed and will begin picking up our regular bread from here. We believe the comments below may be a cultural misunderstanding. Although the drip coffee was weak than what we anticipate from a European café,but good. In hindesite, we should have ordered espresso or americanos. The French are very proud of their food and take offense at someone drinking subpar coffee with the food they put so much passion in. It's kind of like putting ketchup on a filet mignon. so..starbucks has a bad name when it comes to coffee for the epicure. we found the French to be a proud people..sometimes to a fault. look past this or even embrace it and you'll find a pretty good café. cheers!

Still a fan! My Husband and I ordered a wholesale order of Madeleines to be made here for our wedding favors. They offered to have them just in boxes so we package them ourselves, or to package them for us. We got the OPTION, which was fantastic because there was a significant price difference. They were super easy to communicate with, and there was no problem with pick up. They were paid for in advance and they didn't let me down with being late or burnt or something surprising. We even had a good deal of extras in case of something! Everyone at the wedding said they loved the madeleines, more so than the breakfast breads that were being served at the time. Also their seasonal items are so much fun during the holiday. During October/November/FALL the have a pumpkin cheese tart? with a cranberry and small sugar cookie garnish. I like to pick that up for noms later. They do special log cakes, tiny desserts for parties and special occasions and they're still just a popular place for us to get a bite for lunch with a fabulous dessert! Highly recommend the chocolate ganache- yum! Since 2009- and before that, things still haven't changed.

What the heck, i like pastries, so we had to try it. Unfortunately, the employees do not share or encourage enthusiasm for staring into the display cases with awe. Ours seemed to resent having to be at work that saturday morning and frustrated that we couldn't get on with our selection. Really. You work at a treat store, not the DMV. Can i suggest the owners of this shop train their employees about hospitality and that you are about to make someone's day better with yummy treats? I didn't have a problem with the food. And at least the bus boy who offered to bring us free water was very sweet. Also the place looks like a hospital cafeteria. Warm it up a little? We'll be going to Mon Amie from now on.

4-23-13. We meet our friend for lunch at this cute bakery located on Silver Lake. Greeted by the sweetly smiling staff, we choose three of the sandwich specials -including beverage and beautiful dessert pastry . A true European Bakery, serving teas as well. Spotless and well stocked , the Staff were friendly helpful and the flavors a delight. We will be back. Right next door to Sushi Ring, greatest Sushi place in Everett, just ask for Elvis the boss.

Went there yesterday looking for a special birthday cake. We tried three different options, and they were all great-tasting, well-presented cakes. The staff was very friendly and willing to work with us. The price is higher than grocery store cakes, but not outrageous in my opinion, and well worth it for what you get. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to get the best birthday cake, it will bring a smile to your loved one's face.

The bakery's name gives it all away - the pastries on display are as French as it gets, and each looks so good that an artisan may really be preparing them from the adjoining bakery in the back. Their assortment of baked goodies come in bigger-sized croissants, presented in chocolate, cheese, butter, almond, apple, or cinnamon flavors. They also have cinnamon twist, cream cheese, peach Danish, brioche, and a few others, each with its own unique softness and taste. One of my lunch menu favorites is the chicken breast--avocado sandwich, which comes with the usual tomato, lettuce and mustard, all wrapped in a baguette, and paired just right with strong, bottomless coffee. This combo, served with a polite and sweet smile from any of the staff, is almost guaranteed to make anyone's weekend started just right. True to its name, this bakery has yet to disappoint anyone. It sets the bar much higher than any other establishment of the same category, and consistently delivers delectable, uniquely-prepared, authentic pastry selections to its patrons. Finally, it tops it off with incessant politeness and attentive service from its staff. This place is one of the best - I'm so glad that we have places like this around this town.

The pastries are a feast for the eyes, as well as the tastebuds. They are outstanding by themselves or as a finish to the great lunch sandwiches. I like the turkey and havarti with a little onion added. We fight over the cream puffs, as they are popular and go quick. Enjoy!

Love the pastries here! While I try not to stop in too often because my thighs can't take it, I love the chocolate eclairs. Their fruit tarts are great as well as their croissants. Really a great place to stop in for a quick treat!

L' Artisan French Bakery was a pleasant and different culinary experience. Unlike a typical bakery with heavier pastries like donuts (which tend to be filing after pastry number 2), L' Artisan treats you to much lighter fair with more subtle flavors and textures at work. That being said I made the mistake of chancing upon this bakery when I was hungry so my suggestion would be to come to L' Artisan full with a little room left over for some delicacies, unless you are interested in trying their sandwiches as well. Due to their location you must really be in the mood for French baked goods because otherwise they are located a really odd corner in an out of the way strip mall in Silver Lake. The inside is not much with very little seating both inside and out and the décor is really minimal which is fine considering all the art are in the food cases as you walk in. I had no problems with the service as the staff was warm and inviting and service was in a timely manner. They must tend to sell out earlier in the day so be ready to have to decide between your second and third pick, also their pastries are of a decent size but a tad bit spendy. Overall I give this spot a three out of five for solid service and nice looking and tasting food only being outweighed by a poor location and slightly higher price tag.

Very tempting display of nicely decorated cakes and pastries. I tried a few with the latte (which was from Cafe Vita?), I agreed that the quality is very good. Prices of the cakes are not bad at all. But the staff do need to learn how to smile more! To make customer feel welcome! Good food does not gaurantee success, right? Might come back only if I will be in the neigborhood.

I have been looking for a nice French bakery for a while. Not sure why I never came across this place before, I guess it was fate. This place is amazing. First there is plenty of parking which is a plus. After you park you can actually see the baker preparing all the goodies, food and a show. The place is so clean you could probably eat off the floor, not that I recommend it, but it is spotless. Great place to unwind as it is cozy and peaceful. As for the service, I think after reading all the reviews and experiencing it first hand is very straight forward and to the point (nothing wrong with that). I had plenty of time to view the beautifully made pastries and cakes and make my decision. There is an artist working in the kitchen as each cake and pastry is individually crafted like a work of art. I almost feel bad eating these masterpieces. The almond crescent was amazing, no almond extract here, just pure almond paste filled goodies, defiantly worth every penny. I will be letting everyone know about this place as it needs to remain in business for a long long time. I will be back and will be bringing my friends, family and most importantly my appetite. I hope everyone that reads this review takes the time to drive to this bakery and put my words into action by enjoying their own one of a kind hand crafted pastry.

It's nice having one nice, authentic French pastry in the north end. I love the Raspberry Charlotte, and the Frasier is pretty delicious as well. Good breakfast pastries and tarts and they have a really good lunch special as well (sandwich or quiche with a drink of choice, and almost any single-serve pastry from their selection for around $11). Their sandwiches aren't anything spectacular, but a good deal is still a good deal. That said, giving this 4 stars because I have always been put off by their service. I've been coming here for four years now and have never gotten anything more than exceptionally average customer service. (I have always heard they had high turn-over too). Granted, the level of service shouldn't deter you too much from coming here, but it does take away something from the experience and that is an important to me as a consumer.

Stopped by on a quiet Sunday morning and had a wonderful experience! The pastry case was stoked with wonderfully delicious works of art. I tried 3 different ones and they were all excellent. The service was great! they helped pull a couple of table together so that my whole family could enjoy our food together. To top it off their cappuccinos are straight out of Italy quality. Will be back for sure!

I've been coming to L'artisan for about ten years and I have tried everything in the case. It's all AMAZING. I haven't tried anything I haven't liked. The raspberry mouse is definitely the most delicious thing they offer.

These deserts are out of this world! The breakfast pastries are very good, quality is so much better than what you find in a grocery store. I love the brie sandwich, it is unique and delicious. All the deserts are works of art, and taste as good as they look. We recently got a cake for a birthday here and all the guests were in awe at how beautiful it was, and how amazing it tasted, and still mention is months later. Workers have always been courteous & pleasant, sometimes they get a rush of people, but they do their best to handle it.

Stopped in to give it a try. Sells mostly pastries from what I saw in display case. Baked breads in the case were limited. Very small inside dining. 3 staffing the front but none seemed interested in helping customers. No ambiance...unless you count the sterile-like environment. I've heard more cheerfulness in funeral parlors than I did in this place. No smiles, no greeting when customers walked in. Only 3 sandwich offerings. I saw a woman eating one and it looked like all bread with a thin layer of something between the slices. I ordered a cappuccino but apparently the girl making it didn't know how to make them. She left my coffee cup of espresso cooling while she made 2 attempts to froth milk. Finally someone else gave her a lesson...as my coffee cooled completely. Then I was given a cup filled half way with foam and the other half with very bitter coffee. I'm not a coffee snob but I did work at a coffee and espresso bar before Starbucks was even born and I DO know how to make espresso drinks, making them at work and on my personal machine at home. This drink was so bad I got up and just left it...chalking this one up to a lesson learned. Don't go there!

It is easy to pass by if you don't familiar with Silver Lake. There are lots of strip mall parking that you don't have to parallel park or find a spot on the street. My favorite is Almond Croissant is to die for. A thin layer of almond & sugar crust on top, soft & buttery inside. I also had a Brioche and that's good, too. However, the coffee quality and the service can be improved. There was an older lady at the counter who did not seem very pleasant. I'll try the under $10 lunch special next time.

We have been going to this bakery for years and love the quality and taste of their pastries. These are true French/european cakes. Their quiche and lunch items are also very tasty. I was surprised at the negative comments about service since I have always had pleasent servers who are polite and always stop by to refill a coffee or tea. This is a place we will continue to visit.

The food is good, though it is expensive for the portions given. The owner (male) is pretentious and uppity towards customers. I have only seen his wife and have not spoken with her (I have not seen her smile once.). The employee turnover is a great example of how "behind the scenes" runs. The location is odd, but there is always parking and it's easy to get to. It doesn't matter how amazing food is, if you don't know how to treat your customers with respect and kindness; you might as well not work with the public. Take the time to drive 20 minutes to any number of the scratch-made bakeries in and around Seattle. You'll get better service, more selection and less sass.

Driving South on the Bothell-Everett Hwy you'll soon round the north end of little Silver Lake. The small shopping center to the left is where this gem of a bakery is located. The front entrance walks you past where all the goodies are created. The display cases and minimal tables and chairs are in the back portion of the building. But allows access the the couple of chairs and tables set aside for outdoor dining next to a well landscape retention pont that is a clever deception that poses as a well stocked wet lands garden. The area also sits several feet below the Hwy and is his from view by a nice wall. Traffic noise is constant but acceptable when you much of any of the delicious cakes, rolls or croissants . The word indulgence fits perfectly. Topped off with a good cup of coffee and you'll have treated yourself well. Open every day except Monday.

Several years ago, I stopped at L'Artisan while driving through the area and can honestly say that life has never been the same again. Every birthday, anniversary, Mothers' Day and just-because-it's-the-second-Tuesday-of-the-month since that fateful day have been marked by treats from this dessert heaven. Unlike most traditional bakeries, the goodies from L'Artisan are never sickeningly sweet or topped with pounds of sugary frosting. The shortcake-like base for many of the cakes is perfectly buttery and crumbly, the chocolate ganache rich but never overwhelmingly so, and the raspberry mousse delightfully light and fluffy. The baguettes are always fresh, crispy and golden brown on the outside, soft on the inside. I've only tried the almond croissant from their breakfast pastry assortment, but it was one of the best I've ever had. Only downside to L'Artisan is that it is closed on Mondays. Although I suppose even the French baker needs a day off once a week. In response to the reviewers who are disappointed with the slightly less than cheerful service, I say you're there to eat fantastic pastries, not make friends with the staff. Service makes no difference as far as the quality of the food is concerned. Go here. Get the the Raspberry Mousse, the Chocolate Truffle or the Lemon Tart. Or better yet, just get all of them.

The baked bread is your best bet. Their baguette is wonderfully crunchy and soft, excellent for sandwiches. I've had variety of their dessert pastries several times and inevitably the pastry is soggy. The service is slow and indifferent. They also don't open until 8:00 AM or 8:30, depending on the day of the week. For a shop that specializes in breakfast pastries and coffee, that's far too late. I'll hit Frost Donuts, Central Market, or even Starbucks to grab something to eat on my way to work at 7 AM.

I have gone to this place 3-4 times and I have not been disappointed yet. They have delicious deserts and delicious beverages. This is the perfect spot to go after a date, with your kid, etc. The last time I went, I took my daughter after school for a daddy/daughter date. We had a blast as always. I love the local neighborhood feel of the place. If you are ever in Silver Lake/Everett/Mill Creek area, go check this place out.

We finally tried this bakery cafe a couple weeks ago. The service was so friendly and welcoming. We just tried it once and we have to go back to try other cakes and pastries they have. We started off to have lunch first. They have the lunch combo which gives you the choice of sandwich or quiche and a slice of cake/pastry. We had the turkey & Harvati cheese sandwich and their Ham and Cheese quiche. Very fresh ingredients and good flavor. We then had the Napoleon and the Peach tart. The place is okay size with a few tables, but many people just came to buy their cakes and pastries To-Go! Love it!

Oh my goodness, the chicken-avocado sandwich ranks in the top three sandwiches i've ever had. Amazing. I would give this place five stars if it was a little cheaper, but still worth it simply for the fact that i will forever crave that sandwich.

As a person who can't get enough fresh food for breakfast or lunch, when I found the French Bakery, I was ecstatic. I used to work for a casino and we loved the Frasier cakes so much we bought them whole to sell in our restaurant. The glass storefront which lets you see into the actual bakery itself adds a whole lot of charm. I could sit and watch for hours. The coffee there is delicious, the music and staff add the perfect welcoming ambiance. I've taken all my friends here!

  • Michael B.

I've been going here for a few years and if I were rating the food alone I'd give it 5 stars (the Frasier cake, Napoleon, and Brie sandwich are superb). However, the customer service at l'Artisan is abyssmal and it starts with the owner/head baker (the French guy in the back who makes everything). The bad service trickles down to his wife (who works the counter) and to the young help he's employed. And it isn't just one occasion I've experienced poor treatment -- it's been most everytime I've visited in the past year. So overall I give l'Artisan 1 star. One time my wife and I had just come from Starbucks and had some coffees in hand and stopped by to buy pastry for breakfast to take home. I was told by the owner that we could not be served unless we removed our Starbucks coffees from the premises first. Are you kidding me??? Is this guy new to Seattle? Because most anywhere you go in Seattle someone is carrying a cup of coffee and nearly every establishment I've gone to doesn't mind. I'm not going to l'Artisan for the coffee, I'm going because IT'S A BAKERY. Secondly, and this has happened on MULTIPLE occasions, I've called to order a Frasier cake. One time I was told the owner isn't making them currently because strawberries are out of season. Ok, fair enough. Then another time I called when strawberries were in season and I was told he's out of marzipan -- is this my problem? I'm willing to buy an expensive large Frasier cake for a birthday and he can't muster the energy to call his supplier and get some marzipan? The next time I tried I called in late March to pre-order a Frasier cake for my wife's birthday in April -- was told they aren't making them yet, strawberries aren't in. Called again, was told they'd start making Frasier cakes next week, middle of April. My wife's birthday is April 12 that I really needed the cake, their response was "well, we don't know when next week, but not Sunday, April 12." I'm done with this place -- the Frasier cake must be among their best selling and high priced items -- the owner of l'Artisan demonstrates repeatedly that customers aren't his top priority.

I am really not impressed. I held off writing this until I went in twice, thinking maybe I had hit an off day. Both times the older woman (I believe she is the owner) was exceptionally rude with her staff right in front of everyone and she was short with the customers. I just can't stand it when employees get treated like crap, especially in front of the people they are serving. I have had a selection of pastries and found them to either be too sweet or totally lacking in flavor. I would love to support a local business and I did give them a second chance, but this place is just not where it's at...

This is a bakery with a fine assortment of sugary goods, coffee, and tea. The almond croissant is delicious and the tart good. I thought the service was pleasant, particularly the young man who brought us our pastries. It's easy to miss in a small strip mall tucked in next to some Silver Lake apartments. Would frequent it again if I were in the area but I wouldn't make a special trip.

This is by far the best french bakery I have ever been to. Each item is as delicious as it is beautiful. I cannot recommend this place high enough. I only wish it was closer to my house. Highlights for Me: almond croissant, Brazilian mocha cake, lemon meringue tart, and the cream puff. I can't wait to try more.

One of the best bakeries I've been to. Great tasting assortment of bakeries that have too often put me off course from my diet plans. The selection is great, the staff is friendly. My only recommendation is to stay open a bit later (from6pm) and offer discounts at the end of day for left over bakeries... Still, this is a great place for all my deserts.

  • Christine Y.

been going to this bakery for the past..5 yrs or so. i really love the variety of pastries, the colorful display of cakes, the cleanliness and brightness of the store. some favorites: chocolate ganache--rich, chocolatey cherry ganache (not sure if this is the official name) mixed fruit tart (i think it's gotten sweeter over the yrs) almond croissant--great with a latte chocolate croissant--it's the regular croissant with a stick of chocolate inside lunch is also awesome here. most of the time i get the ham n cheese or the chicken avocado sandwich. ingredients are FRESH and made to order. the chicken can be bland tho and always needs more salt n pepper. i don't often get the quiche lorraine, but it is also good and comes with fresh fruit, which when i tried in the summer, was a combo of delicious sweet strawberries, blueberries, and cantaloupe add a beverage and dessert to make it a lunch special, about $10. i love it in the summertime because u can sit outside and enjoy delicious food in the sun. lastly, the owners are nice, but i think the wife can be moody..

I've had some pastries here which were not bad and decided to come back for a birthday cake. Bad decision! I paid $29 for an 8-inch Snow White Cake which no one at the party finished. While it looked gorgeous, it tasted bland and gross. The cake consisted of thick layers of lemon butter cream intertwined with thin layers of cake. It's almost like you were eating a cube of butter. We had over half of the cake leftover in the fridge which I hate to throw out but will. Even my husband, a non-picky cake fan, felt sick after wards and will not touch it. What a disappointment and waste of money!

I just can't give this place that high of a rating. I appreciate that they serve Caffe Vita and they had really nice and helpful staff. But here's the low down - the croissants aren't that great. Hubby and I got a peach, cream cheese, chocolate, and almond croissant. We don't go up to Everett often enough, so why not try as much as you can in one go? Glad we did because I don't think I would have returned otherwise. I have made better chocolate croissants at home with Trader Joe's frozen ones. The peach and cream cheese were just okay, nothing to brag about. The almond was actually pretty decent, but still not the best I've ever had. We took a baguette to go and that didn't last the weekend, so thumbs up on that. Also - their lunch special sounds pretty reasonable and, considering I liked their bread, it might bump them up. Until then, it's just "a-okay".

I am so sorry I have been out there tasting food and not reporting back. This place is to die for. You have to go try this place. It will be a little hard to find because it's in a small strip mall and it doesn't have a sign up. The way we found it was my boyfriend had the window down and could smell it. Thank goodness he did because I had a croissant with cream cheese and it was wonderful. I wanted another one but I didn't get it because I would have only wanted another one and we would have been there all day. I would have taken a picture of it but once I took a bite I couldn't put it down to get my camera. It's a little pricey but it's worth it. Be sure and try this place its in the strip mall that has Luca's Ristorante and Pizzeria on the corner. When you go could you get me a croissant with cream cheese and I saw this piece of cake I wanted to try.

Real European style pastries, the way pastries should be. Just like pastries from Paris. Not overly sweet, just super fresh good quality awesomeness.

Yikes now I know about this place so I'm in trouble. Who woullda thunk there was a classy French Bakery right on Silver Lake? I got two pieces of cake: something that was cappucino flavored and something else with strawberries. Both were awesome. I brought them over to Grandma's apartment since she's always complaining about the desserts at the "home" being sub-par. Well I made her day! I'm totally going here again next week.

  • Kim C.

My initial 5 star review was based upon pastries and cakes ordered and shared by others. After physically going to the bakery, there is no way that I can keep their rating that high. The young people working at the bakery are very sweet and helpful, but the woman, who I assume is the owner, is just downright rude. Rude to her employees and surprisingly rude to her customers. I felt a little embarrassed for her and now she has presented me with a serious internal struggle! There is no denying that the pastries and cakes are amazing, but they do taste a little less sweet when served by such discourteous people.

I have NEVER had anything from this bakery that wasn't good. Outstanding....when I go to some ones home for dinner I always take the dessert and it always comes from L'Artisan!!! Jacques produces amazing products and I am always treated with respect and kindness by him and his wife. He is an artist with his work....everything has beautiful presentation.

  • Daigoro T.

Had regular and chocolate croissants, as well as a piece of Napoleon. They were okay, not anything special, nothing like the real French croissants. I personally believe Central Market has just as good croissants for more reasonable prices. They seemed to use butter cream instead of custard cream for Napoleon, which was another turn off for us. I gave them three stars instead of two due to their relatively reasonable pricing. I don't think we are going back.

I liked this little hidden place. I was meeting a friend here the other day, and I was early so I ordered a white chocolate mocha (it was quite tasty), and then had a plain croissant. I think my total came to around $5-6? Only bad thing was that the credit card slips you sign do not have a Tips part. Whoops. Croissant was huge and delicious! They brought it to the table I was sitting at before I even put my credit card away! It came with a thing of butter and grape jelly, and was delicious! The older lady (who I think might own the place?) was super attentive to me, and cleared my table while my friend and I were talking. She was super friendly and laughing a lot with 'regulars' (or so they seemed.) The cafe is small in my opinion, it seems you could only fit a 20 max people in there, and that would be a tight squeeze. Overall, I liked the place. Their desserts look scrumptious and will be back with the Boyfriend to sample some!!

  • Ali U.

I have not had brioche or croissants this good since I stayed in France!! I've gone all over Seattle looking for a great croissant, sure their are some good ones out their but nothing truly French. L'Artisan nailed it! So buttery and flaky. The Batard is just so so, but the desserts are fantastic!!

  • D S.

Based on Yelp reviews I decided to visit. I was a little nervous because of some of the things that people had said about the place. However I've gone twice now and have had positive experiences both times! It is a little small, so weekends and lunch time it was kind of crowded. I was able to get a seat the first time and the second time I was doing take-out anyway. The lunch special is where it's at, $12 buys you a drink, sandwich and delicious pastry! They have lots of french pastry items, beautiful croissants, eclairs, yum. I hate to recommend this place because I'd like to keep it all to myself, however I think the secret is getting out whether I like it or not!

I do have to agree that the food is quite good. I've eaten here several times. Unfortunately, I also have to agree with the negative reviews as well. The customer service is absolutely the worst. I keep going back hoping that will change. I've yet to be surprised. If you can stand poor customer service, the food is quite good.

Had Chocolate Croissants in Leavenworth, they were to die for, but looked for something closer to home so tried these guys...bad mistake! Where's the chocolate?? Seriously, I cut one in half and found maybe half a mini size candy bar, the second one was worse...two blobs the size of chocolate chips!!! Will not waste time or money here or recommend!

It only took me 5 years to find an authentic almond croissant! Our espresso girl works at the bakery on the weekend and we visited the bakery last weekend. It's located in an unexpected location and from the parking lot you can view the bakery through the floor to ceiling windows. It's a small cute cafe. The folks are friendly. We ordered an almond croissant, super moist and to die for! The other item we bought was a loaf of bread, we didn't eat it for a couple of days and it was still soft and chewy. Yummy!

My wife and I go here all the time for lunch and baked goods and we both love it. They have the most delectable shortbread cookies I've ever had and I have yet to try something that I did not love. This is a great bakery and a good cafe and certainly a local business that deserves your attention.

Amazing little surprise in an unassuming strip mall. My dad lives in an assisted living place just up the street so I am always looking for something good that is close. The staff is wonderful and the food amazing and great prices. Local restauarants - you should be buying your desserts here - they are gorgeous and amazing!

This bakery is a nice little hidden gem located in the Everett Silver Lake area! The pastries are freshly made, savory and sweet but not overdone with sugar. I've also bought many cakes and they are beautiful and almost modern contemporary looking compared to the grocery market cakes that are packed with hideous flowers. You gotta try it!

I biked here with a group today for lunch and had a turkey and havarti sandwich that was just all right, nothing special. Their deserts and pastries looked tasty but I wanted something more than a raspberry tart for lunch. Staff was definitely kind and helpful. A girl came in while we were there and asked if they make wedding cakes, which apparently they do. Not sure that really changes my review but maybe that's of interest to others.

I'm so in love with this cute little neighborhood bakery. Their cream puffs are just the thing when you are craving something gooey and sweet. Their Almond rolls are so moist and delicious. If you just want a sandwich you will not be disappointed. They are so simple but rich and delicious. I like to take my grandmother here when she is craving something sweet and so does she.

Since I have previously traveled around France, there are times I long for the qualities I found in restaurants and bakeries. This bakery fulfills that need for me: the smell inside the bakery, the look of the desserts, and the taste of the products all remind me of what I expect from a French bakery. I've ordered Chocolate Croissants (very much like the Pan Au Chocolat's I had), Almond Croissants (sweet, flaky, and soft), and Napoleans (rich, creamy, and divine). All were very delicious, fresh, and enjoyed by every one that tried them. Only quirk I had with the croissants is that they were not warm, but I came late enough in the day (near close) so that should be expected. I also was disappointed to see many of the desserts are gone at that time too, but that is what happens with a popular bakery. So if you want the best stuff, go nearer the beginning of the day. Every time I've ordered something, I've just been in and out at the counter. The service I've received has been friendly and courteous each time I've gone. Highly recommended for a delicious treat.

L'Artisan is a fabulous little place on the north end of Silver Lake. It is in an unassuming location, and quite small, but bright and clean with a very friendly staff. The food is amazing - a touch of France in Silver Lake. The deserts are to die for, and as beautiful as they are delicious. The lunch menu is limited, but the sandwiches are made with the freshly baked bread or croissants, and the quiche Lorraine is heavenly - smooth, creamy and flavorful. I have ordered their full size deserts for family parties, and sadly, never had so much as a crumb left over. My personal favorites are the Lemon Torte and the Chocolate Ganache Cake. They are made so beautifully that you hate to cut into them. If you order their lunch special you get your choice of a single serving desert.....that way you can decide on your own favorite.

I actually used Yelp to learn about L'Artisan Bakery. This is such a great place for delicious desserts and breads. At first I couldn't find the place because its hidden in the corner of the complex area in silverlake. I just go in to get some cakes and breads to go. Their presentation of baked goods is just mouth watering. You'd want to buy one of each. The croissants are very soft and flaky. I love the chocolate croissant. The cakes on the other hand are so good they just melt in your mouth. The snow white is awesome. The fruit tart is really good. Everytime I go there, I have to try something new and it doesn't dissapoint.

Just went here this morning for breakfast and I wanted to try everything! The almond croissant was damn good (thanks to the previous reviews, that was the first thing I wanted to try) and so was my vanilla latte. I will definitely be back... possibly weekly. Uh-oh, new addiction!

Went there in Fall 2006 and they did not have a panini(sandwichera) for the sandwich. They did not have cheesecake. I bought something that looked like cheesecake and did not like it. Maybe they have improved. They were not that attentive.

  • Lisa L.

I really wish I could give this place a higher review. Their deserts and pastries are fantastic, easily worth all 5 stars. I just wish the cafe itself had a better feel. I've tried to go there several times now for lunch and each time I just felt unwelcome to sit down and stay a while. The staff wasn't mean they just were not nice and the cafe itself is cold and uncomfortable.

I like their brioche and fruit tart. My friend loved her lemon tart (can't remember the exact name, but it was VERY lemony)
