Beautiful, Quaint, & Cozy Really cute little place with great views of the bay and Indian Island. Everything was lovely. The reason for my 4 stars was two fold- 1) my husband found the bed uncomfortable and 2) at check-in, we were told the breakfast in the am on Mother's day was a special brunch menu- but they also had the early breakfast deal ($7.00). When we went to breakfast- they said it was a holiday (?) and there was no early am deal....wish that had been properly communicated to the hotel staff. Other than that we had a nice mother's day weekend-

The location of the hotel is very convenient. The view was pretty nice, but kind of hidden behind the building surrounding us. The staff and service were very courteous. We did not enjoy how firm and thick the pillow was, it was hurting my back. Also, the hair dryer handle is greasy.. seems that no one has cleaned it since the last user. It made me wonder what else are they not cleaning.

I went during the off season, in January when Eastsound is pretty dead. I'd have to say that's the best time to go, and it's worth sacrificing some sunny summer days in return for wonderful mild, winter ones with no hassle of waiting for ferries. It was the perfect place to do very little than sit around. The rooms are updated and nice (I was in the luxury bay view suite), with beautiful views of the sunrise in the Eastsound bay.

This is one of my favorite places to stay on Orcas. It's a nice location right in the heart of town. I've only stayed in the view suites. The rooms are large, with a seating area. The bathrooms are nice, with a large soaking tub. The view is amazing. The location is great because you can walk around town. And their in-house restaurant, New Leaf, is a pretty nice place to dine too.

Note: this is a review of the bay view suites part of the hotel. Given the price point, I would suggest either staying elsewhere on Orcas, or going with the cheaper motel-style rooms on the other side of the inn which are like $50/night and have a shared bathroom. I will probably try Rosario next time. The suites here *look* nice enough, but our room frequently smelled like an outhouse. Not sure if they are having some plumbing problems, or moisture issues, or what, but it wasn't pleasant. Not overwhelming, but not good either. The bed was comfortable (my husband raved about it) but the walls were quite thin (I was woken up many times during our stay by the upstairs neighbors walking around, and by neighbors on either side coming and going - doors opening and closing, toilets flushing, water running, people talking, the whole nine yards. The room also had issues with heating and cooling. Well, actually, only issues with cooling - the heat worked fine, but if the room got too hot, there was no way to cool it off. There seemed to be no HVAC to speak of, so I'm not sure what kind of heating system was used. Maybe radiant in-floor heating. But I basically had to leave the window open all weekend AND the heat on so it didn't get too hot or cold. Dear environment: I'm sorry! Dear mom: No, I wasn't raised in a barn, and you know that. You're the one who raised me. When we arrived, I figured it must be trash day or something because of the overwhelming smell of garbage from the dumpster. (There's a restaurant attached to the inn). Well, the smell didn't get much better other than one particularly windy day. Not sure if the Outlook Inn pays much attention to their dumpster, or if it's their job to keep it clean and not terrible-smelling or the waste management company's responsibility, but I would get that looked at. it's definitely not pleasant, and you have to drive by to get in and out of the parking area. yuck. the carpet in our room was pretty worn out, and the walls could have done with a new coat of paint too. The bathroom definitely dated the whole place - I'm guessing it was remodeled in the late 80's/early 90's. There was a huge jetted tub, which I didn't get a chance to use. There was a big dead pill bug in the corner of the bathroom that didn't move the entire weekend, even though housekeeping came. The toilet had a little note on it explaining that you have to hold the handle down for 10 seconds. Despite following those instructions, the day we arrived the toilet began flooding all over the bathroom floor. I think I know what that outhouse smell might be from! (It's at this point where I actually click 2 stars for the review instead of the original 3 stars I was thinking about). Basically, for $230/night (slightly less in the off-season, but the price you are reminded of every time you leave your room because it's printed on the back of the door) I feel like there were too many little issues that I shouldn't have had to worry about during a relaxing long weekend in the San Juan islands. Hopefully these suites are due for an upgrade (it looked like some of the less-expensive rooms were getting windows replaced while we stayed) so most of these issues are addressed. Also, for the price, it would have been nice to have some extras available, like room service from the on-site restaurant (shouldn't be too hard to manage). On the upside, the people who work here are genuinely very friendly, welcoming, and helpful. We had a couple of meals in the New Leaf Cafe inside the inn (I'm going to review that separately), which were really great, and obviously the location can't be beat - you can walk to all the restaurants and shops nearby. And our room had a spectacular view of the water. There's a really spacious mini fridge and wet bar area with dishes and everything you'd need. So if you're planning on lots of takeout, that would be perfect. Oh, and the towel warmer in the bathroom is really cool.

We spent 3 nights here and could not have been happier. We have two young kids who enjoyed the proximity to the town and all it has to offer, but we could also quickly be to any part of the island for bigger outdoor adventures. Everyone we ran into on the staff was helpful, friendly, and full of great advice. If you are looking for a central location for your next trip to Orcas I highly recommend Outlook Inn.

I had never been to Orcas Island before so new territory. It is the epitome of "Island Life" A very friendly staff await you, rooms are comfortable as well as affordable. It is minutes from Moran State Park and the town is a perfect blend of classic hippie and good ole home town. The New Leaf was exceptional, great food, wonderful breakfast and dinner! It was the quickest three days ever, also the best. Thanks to all at the hotel and restaurant. I will be back!

What an amazing experience. My wife and I were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary and wanted to go somewhere special. We was watching the travel channel last month and they said the San Juan Islands was a top 10 "Must See" destination. After doing some homework, everyone recommended Orcas Island to visit. The Outlook Inn on Orcas Island was highly recommended. We spend a little extra for the newer rooms and glad we did. The rooms were fabulous but the view from our room was spectacular. They entire staff was friendly, especially Tracy that checked us in. Needless to say, the New Leaf restaurant attached to the Outlook was phenomenal as well. We are planning another trip soon with our children so they can enjoy the amazing experience.

It's quaint in an not top notch way. The "waterfront" room, is on second floor and does have a window with grids on it looking over parking lot street and then a view of waterfront. It has a fridge, no microwave. It's roomy has a bay window looking over the bar. Service was fine but not super accommodating. The island has an overall laid back approach. You won't be waited on. They do have a nice Resturant. Great food, fair service, everyone that works in hotel and Resturant wears yoga pants and tee shirts. (Strange, but not really if you walk around town) The town is liberal, hippie-ville. Lots of "gardners", they all know each other. They are friendly enough. You are there to pay and pay you will. It's an island! Nothing's inexpensive.

Superb hotel. It's not new - very early/mid 20th century - but has a wonderfully nostalgic feel. I've stayed there 3 or 4 times over the years and have never been disappointed. It's quiet and clean and ultra-charming. The restaurant is also excellent. I haven't been there in awhile and look forward to going back.

This Inn was fine. We had a room with a shared bathroom for the floor. The room had a bed and a sink and that was it. The rooms that had their own bathrooms were much nicer, but they didn't have any available when I booked. The staff was polite but the security door lock came off of the door when I tried opening it from the outside. I would probably rate it higher if we were in a different room. The location is great and the staff was friendly.
