We drove along Chuckanut Drive the weekend before Thanksgiving - after a snow storm. I read about this restaurant in my Lonely Planet guide, and my family and I were not disappointed. We had a lovely late lunch. Everything was delicious - oysters on the half shell with mango mignionette, my 8 year old son loved the Chantrelle Gnudi. The service was wonderful, we enjoyed the view and excellent food. We will definitely be back!

Gorgeous and romantic but very pricey for the experience. I ordered a dozen oysters for over $30. I found the same Fanny Bays at Seabolts in Oak Harbor for $8 bucks per dozen. Also the cioppino was good but seemed like a bowl of soup rather than a seafood stew. Small portions with a big price tag but an awesome view!

Went to the Oyster Bar with my partner Monday night. Great, maybe even exceptional service. The greens salad may have been the best I have ever eaten, at least in the top five. The king salmon could have been cooked another 2 minutes and the under lying vegetables were almost raw. I know how salmon should be cooked, not so sure what their intent was with the vegetables. My partner and I each had water, salad, main dish, coffee and desert and it came to $100 + tip for two so its not for everyone.

Please please please, no more reviews of this place. Oyster Bar is one of the best kept secrets in the Northwest. It rivals any of the other more "famous" establishments, most of which are just living off their reputations. Herb Farm? Good grief no. Canlis? Whatever. This place is an understated jewel. The closer you look the better it gets. Cruising along Chuckanut Drive, blink and you'll miss it. An unexceptional exterior leads to an intimate space with knock your socks off views. The menu includes traditional fare prepared with northwest authenticity and subtle flavors that sneak up on you. We enjoyed the beet salad, lightly fried oysters, fresh halibut, and a half bottle of pinot noir. A spur of the moment "let's stop in" turned into a meal to remember. Exceptional service too, without that pretentious vibe you get at a lot of "nice" places. Tell no one about this place!

My boyfriend and I visit Seattle every September and last year we were told to take a drive on Chuckanut to check out the NW coastline and low and behold we found this Oyster Bar! I wanted to keep this place our little secret but I guess the secret's out! My boyfriend and I still crave their fresh Kumamoto oysters... We compare every place we find that serves fresh oysters and there's no place like the Oyster Bar! Can't wait til we head up again this year! P.S. Grab a seat on the patio for the best view of the NW Pacific! Its absolutely breathtaking!

Best restaurant in the county. Wonderful service, great view, wonderful food. Pricey, but worth every centime.

Simply, devine and why we go out to eat. We started with a baker's dozen assorted Washington State oysters. Each variety unique and perfectly shucked and oh so fresh. Next we had the mixed green salad and the Endive salad. They were the best salad, respectively, we have ever had. Perfect balance of ingredients and dressed to perfection. The wine list was intensive and spot on. John, our waiter was everything you want in a server, again perfect balance. Thank you Justin, the chef, for a perfect meal.

The only reason I am giving this restaurant 2 stars is because the view is magnificent. We had a wonderful table outside last night, the weather was great, got there about 5:30 and not crowded. The Food on the other hand was not what I was expecting or hoping for. We drove from Marysville just for dinner. Chose this place over the Chuckanut Manor because the reviews on Yelp were close but just a bit better for the Oyster Bar. First off, I got half order of oysters and they were not shucked right. I don't know what you call the thing that the oyster is attached to but it was all shucked and attached to the oyster and I ate it on the first one with out knowing. It was that way on all of them. I had the salmon special and my other two guests had filets. The salmon was dry - overcooked. The steaks were not seasoned and one had to be sent back because it was well done not rare. I know that happens sometimes and it is what it is. But even the steak that came back cooked perfectly as requested had no flavor or seasoning at all. And the soufflé that came with the dinner was just awful. We could have just come on an off night or someone new was in the kitchen but for the money we spent $202.00 for 3 people and the drive we made it was just to much of a disappointment. Believe me I was looking for a reason to come back because the view is unbelievable

Without a doubt, one of the best restaurants in Western Washington. Unparalleled views to match the unparalleled service. Appetizer escargot in pastry SO good. Intermediate, complimentary drink-snacky of pineapple sorbet in champagne with a touch of cilantro was particularly brilliant. Cedar-planked wild salmon entree was excellent. Tequila-soaked Alaskan King Crab was a bit unnecessarily ambitious, but delicious, nonetheless. Chinook Chard an excellent choice (if I do say so myself), and finally, the wild mint infused, dark chocolate pot de creme was perfectly-portioned and sinfully rich. Oh Oyster Bar, I do love you!

Why we Washingtonians don't herald this place as much as we cherish the Herb Farm, or Californian's their French Laundry for that matter, I don't know. This restaurant is truly one of a kind. Perched high on a bluff over north Puget Sound and hugging one of many bends along Chuckanut Drive, The Oyster Bar is not only a place for views but also smack dab in the middle of some of the best seafood and fresh produce the region has to offer. I have found everything on the menu expertly prepared, especially their souffle. The best bet is to head up (or down) along Chuckanut for an early dinner in Autumn just as the leaves turn and see what they are doing with fresh Copper River Salmon. If you're entertaining a friend on their first visit to the Pacific Northwest, this place will definitely leave an impression.

Although I went with a friend of mine, we both quickly decided this was the most romantic "date" we had ever been on. The food is excellent, expect leftovers, because you will be eating multiple portions. The cozy "cabin" setting and view are great! The coup is the service, the VERY best I've experienced!

Oyster Bar is a fantastic fine-dining experience with magnificent views of the bay and the sunsets. It's definitely not cheap but was the perfect choice for a celebratory dinner. Hawaiian Ono and an appetizer of wine and butter mussels was amazing.

We kept asking the local people for a good place to eat between Anacortes and Bellingham... everyone said this place. It's a little out of the way but totally worth it. Amazing location, great views, super fresh food and friendly service. They have more than just seafood, a good variety of locally grown meals, and they have yummy and unique desserts..... 5/5 for sure!!

I visit this restaurant every summer. The view is perfect, overlooking the water. i usually have the baked oyster appetizer and the fried oysters. The food is excellent. The service is attentive. It is pricey but worth every penny.

We went here to eat last night. Let me start by saying, the food was phenomenal. Mouthwateringly good. The service was quick and attentive and our waiter was charismatic and helpful. The view was spectacular and the restaurant itself is lovely. All of these things in mind we will be back. There are 2 reasons I didn't give this place 5 stars. The first, the espresso grinder is in the dinning room, and it is very loud. We had a fairly late dinner so many people at the restaurant ordered coffee. Meaning we had to stop talking (because you can't hear each other over the grinder) several times through out our meal. The second reason I didn't give this restaurant 5 stars was because our waiter had some very intense body odor. When we first arrived we smelt it and were unsure of where it was coming from. Only to find out moments later that it was our waiter. It was hard to listen to what he was saying and he regularly reached across me to put down plates and drinks making the smell that much worse. Overall we will be back, and we will sit in a different section of the restaurant as far from the espresso grinder as possible.

This falls into the category of 'best restaurants I've given only two stars to'... The Oyster Bar is one of the finest restaurants in this neck of the woods, with a well-deserved reputation for its cuisine, but is hamstrung by some maddening logistical and housekeeping issues. THE ROSES: Let's start with the obvious; the location is exquisite! on a cliff overlooking Samish Bay, TOB is where you go to celebrate anniversaries, birthdays, and to propose to that special someone. The dining rooms are long and narrow, and every table has at least a good view, and most have a spectacular view! There is also an outside deck for the gorgeous summer evenings we've been having, but they come with a caveat: more on that in a moment. The food is, well, as the kids say, 'it's all that!' (mostly; more on that in a moment). An appetizer of a dungeness crab 'lasagna', served in a pool of a roasted pepper puree was nothing less than transcendent! The Quinoa Roulade is a vegan entree that could make this carnivore swear off meat, and the fried fresh local oysters were a delight! One controversial thing about the restaurant is their policy of denying entry to any patrons under 9 years old. In Seattle, this would be 'casus belli', as hordes of well-heeled yuppie parents would picket the establishment for daring to deny entree to their precious little Ritalin-addled sprogs. Speaking as one who has had no end of flights, movies, and dinners ruined by over-indulged, out of control brats, I am totally behind this! Memo to would-be indignant parents: this policy was probably the result of a lot of bad experiences. When you're going to be dropping $100+ a patron for a dinner experience, you're paying wayyyyyy too much $$$ to have your evening ruined by an undisciplined kid. Before you complain, ask yourself, 'am I part of the problem?'. THE THORNS: I hate to be the 'dog in the manger', given all the 5-star reviews, but this critique must be shared. It's easy to be a 'big fish in a small pond', but what can slide in Bow would never fly in say, Seattle. 1) Service is a bit inconsistent. Your experience depends a lot on who you get. On our level, we had two servers working the area. One was very attentive, and a rather charming raconteur, but the other was younger, a bit indifferent, and frequently 'AWOL'. We got stuck with the latter. 2) Not all the dishes were of stellar quality. The smoked salmon chowder was, to be brutally honest, thin, weak in the flavour department, and I wasn't getting any of the smoked salmon taste. Did they simply wave a smoked salmon in front of the pot and call it good? 3) Pacing left a LOT to be desired. Apertifs and first course were prompt enough, but there was a gap in time between the second and main courses that made me wonder if the kitchen staff was rappelling down to the bay to get my oysters. The entrees are served with a delightful cheese & onion souffle; I suspect they ran out, and had to fire a fresh batch, hence the delay. Keeping us in the loop would've helped. This was a case where the pacing wasn't 'romantically slow', it was downright glacial! 4) If you DO choose a seat on the outside deck, do so when there's a north wind. We were repeatedly hit with wafts of 'overfull septic tank smell' coming from somewhere, and that did put a bit of a damper on our experience. 5) Parking sucks. No lot, just street parking, and if it's busy, you may be in for a hike. SO WHY ONLY TWO STARS? This is not a cheap restaurant. The oysters on the half-shell are rather spendy, and the wine list is skewed towards the 1%. When you're playing at this price point, little annoyances become big annoyances. What may slide in Bow would never fly in Seattle. THE VERDICT: Big fish in a small pond, The Oyster Bar offers some really show-stopping dishes that match their view, but is somewhat hamstrung by inconsistencies in service, pacing, and - if you're outside - the risk of a rather offensive assault upon your olfactories! I say check it out, but dine inside!

WOW! An amazing lunch! Lobster roll was filled with chunks of lobster. Sweet potato fries were thin & crispy to perfection. Sat outside on the deck with a beautiful view of the water. The food here is really delicious! Just a perfect place. My co worker had fresh oysters that were SO DELISH !!! One of the best meals I've had in a long time in this area. I live in Seattle & I can't think of a place that beats this. I'm very picky coming from Nola. I've had dinner here before that was just as memorable. Worth every penny & it's allot of pennies$$$ The crab & avocado & melted cheese sandwich was SO great. Don't feel like you have to be dressed up, you see everything from dressy to shorts.

My husband & I ordered a dozen Oysters, it was really good. We also had some Salmon special apetizers which was also good. I had the Seafood Stew, which was awesome, but next time, I'll order rice with it. My husband oredered the Sole special which he really likes. This place was worth the trip. Can't wait to come back here for dinner & try their dinner menu.

Can I give this restaurant 3.5 stars? Darn it, no, no half stars can be given. Ok, I'll round up, but I really think 3.5 is more appropriate. As other have noted, the view from this restaurant, high on a bluff overlooking the water, is breathtaking. The view alone is worth 10 stars plus! We had a lovely hostess who sat us at a prime window seat for a late lunch recently, and our server was also lovely and attentive. The restaurant is deceptive from the outside, as the exterior is fairly non-descript and there is no real parking lot (you have to park along the busy Chuckanut Drive), and the bathroom is accessible from the outside of the restaurant. We thought this would be more like a real "oyster bar" and not the pricey, elegant restaurant that it is, complete with white linens and lunch dishes starting at $20 (and going way up from there). The bread basket was quite nice, with fresh rolls and butter curls. They offered a few salads, and my kid had the fig and chevre salad which she said was fantastic (would be perfect as a side dish. Small-ish). Hubby had the seafood bouillabaisse which, while very good, had way too much broth/liquid, and his bowl was left 3/4 full of the liquid. (It should have had rice with it, or more fillers - like potatoes, - or been served with a lot more bread to sop up the excessive broth). We all felt that the cioppino at Anthony's was as good and a better value by far (comes with a lot more seafood). This dish, while tasty, did not have a lot of seafood in it; hubby was still hungry (very hungry). My younger kid had what was undoubtedly the best dish of the table: the fried oysters with apple aioli sauce and grilled vegetables. I had the veggies and they were great. But the fried oysters! Oh my. My hubby and other kid tried them and nearly fainted with delight, they were that good. And all agreed, this was THE dish to get, should we return. They were eaten with relish and only shared under duress (lol!). Between the three dishes (really two main dishes and one side dish), and two bottled beers for hubby, tax and tip, our lunch was $70. Pricey, eh? Good, yes. Very good. Elegant, yes. With a stunner of a view. But worth $70? Debatable. I should note that there is a sign at the front door that children under 9 years old were not permitted in the restaurant. A family was turned away at the door while we were eating. We were surprised, never having seen this in a restaurant. Granted, we totally understand and agree with not having infants or toddlers at an "adult", elegant restaurant. But 7 or 8 or 9 years old? Heck, our daughters were well-behaved and quiet and proper at 6. Some kids are way better behaved than adults. I thought this policy somewhat off-putting. And there is another sign that says to refrain from cell phone usage. Hooray to this policy! Although I shudder to think how it's enforced.

Chuckanut Drive + lunch at the Oyster Bar is easily one of the best ways to spend a sunny day in the Pacific Northwest. This place is so unexpected: white table cloths, fantastic food, great service, all in the middle of no where. What a fun secluded spot to take in a glass of wine and a gorgeous view of the bay. This is such a great location for a summer date or a good place to drop off if you are making the drive up to Canada. There are many trails nearby as well to stop off and stretch your legs or enjoy a late summer sunset. I am a huge fan of outdoor dining and their deck is pretty hard to beat plus they give you a blanket to beat the chill. If you haven't been, make a point to put it on your list!

We stumbled upon the Oyster Bar while on a scenic drive and we had to pull over. Sunset, ocean view balcony, oysters on the half shell - AWESOME. Surprisingly high end dining, we did rack up quite the bill.

This place is simply amazing. The food here is fresh u can deff taste it, the service is also superb. I came in on Monday so we were able to get a seat fast, I'm sure on weekends is very busy.

It's excellent. Anyone that tells you otherwise needs a complete check-up. We came here for our wedding anniversary and as far as I can tell, this is one of the few classy, romantic and delicious restaurants in the area. We have had plenty of delicious seafood in SoCal and this place is better than most in OC & LAC. Look forward to dining here again later at night in the Summer!!

Fine dining with a million dollar view! Very romantic! Great oysters with lots of local choices. Incredibly fresh. Also recommend the crab cakes. This is a very quiet restaurant and some of the clientele are 60+. Romantic atmosphere...not boisterous.

Awesome view and great food. This was my second visit and it did not disappoint. I had the special which was swordfish. But of course you must start with oysters . I hope to return whenever I am in the area.

What a wonderful place to eat, enjoy the view of the sound and sip incredible wine. If you haven't visited The Oyster Bar your missing out. It's spendy but sooooo worth it. If dinner prices are to much go for lunch. I wish I could eat here once a week.

Just got back from a great little hideaway dinner spot. We had the Seafood Bouillabaisse and it has to be the best I've ever had. I look forward to coming back and having it again. We also had a great selection of oysters on the half shell and the service isn't bad either, lol. Take the beautiful drive up Chickanut drive and go past Chuckanut Manor to The Oyster Bar, you won't be disappointed!

This place sucks!!!! I don't know what all the hype is all about, really! The only thing good about this place is the view, honestly. Prior to visiting this place, a few friends and I were at Elliott's Oyster house on Pier 56 and they blew the Oyster Bar out of the water. Looking over the other reviews, I'm surprised how others talk about it being "romantic". If you want romantic, just pack a few tuna sandwiches and drive a few minutes North and go to the lookout on your left and voilà, you have a view of the whole sound. Or if you and your lucky one are an adventurist, do the oyster dome hike to the top and have a lovely picnic and enjoy the view. OK! OK! Enough, now about my experience. From the time we walked in @ about 3pm (lunch is from 11am-4pm) we sat down and looked at the menus right away. The waitress was extremely kind. We all were ordering oysters to share (1dz for 4 people) and 2 of us were having soup and 1 of us was having the kobe burger and I wanted the salmon pastrami sandwich. The waitress took our orders and when she got to me, she said my choice was out. It would have been nice to been informed what was left on the menu, right? (also please note that we were the only 4 people in the restaurant). I quickly changed my order to the fish taco's. About 20 minutes into being seated, bread/butter and water was given to us and also our oysters. YAAAY!!!. We talked, talked, talked and TALKED until we realized that the bread, oysters and our water was gone and the restaurant was empty, not even a waitress was in sight. Hmmmm!?!? About 3:40pm, she comes out to refill our waters and puts a small bowl in front of my friend for his muscle shells (he ordered some muscle soup). Eventually, at about 3:50, our food came out. Almost a whole hour from the time we walked in, sat down, did we get our food. But really? When we were the only ones in the restaruant? For 2 bowls of soup, a burger and 2 fish tacos? Besides the slow service on a slow day, the tacos were horrible, i have had better tacos @ Jack-in-the box, or Del Taco. This is why I recommend Elliot's Oyster House on Pier 56, where the day before, us 4 were seated at the bar, and the bartender got to know us, talked to us and heck even acted like he cared.

(4/15/2015) We did the drive down Chuckanut from Bellingham to Bow for the scenery and hoping for the food. The Oyster Creek Inn by Taylor Shellfish Farm was recommended to us, but was permanently shuttered (very unfortunate for us). We spotted the Oyster Bar further south and pulled in. In my mind's eye, I was looking for something more like a waterman's shed (which is what it looks like from the outside) and less like the fine dining set up that is the Oyster Bar. We should've walked out, but everyone was very friendly (even after hearing that we were only there for a few oysters and not a full meal) and the view was spectacular, especially when we were there at sunset. We still should've walked out (really not for any fault of theirs, we just were not prepared to pay the high rent). Oysters on the half shell ranged from $2.95 and $3.95. The Kumamotos and Shigokus were delicious, the Samish Bay were sandy. The hard cider mignonette granita was delicious and icy with the briny oysters. I might do it again if I was going for the full fine dining experience, but be forewarned, this cover hides a very pricey book.

Amazing view- food-service!! Mark was wonderful oysters awesome! Stayed after dinner and did some computer work on the deck as the sun set- and an incredible drive to get there! Lots of hiking trails! Next time I will do both- worth the trip!!!!

  • Bryan L.

I honestly think the food is about a three star mainly because the food is overpriced for what you get and a little plane in flavor. You're paying for a view and great service which is close to a five star.

That was the best meal I've had in 10 years. The Bouillabaisse was good, the sunset view was better and our waitress Shelly was the best. Well done.

This place never dissapoints as they are always creating new ideas to grow. I ordered a dozen of the Smanish Bay raw oysters and they were the cleanest and less briny of the oyster choices and they were excellent. My customer wasn't sure about them but he ate half of them and loved it. Any novice would love these oysters as they are less briny or what I think is the flavor of seaweed. Loved the halibut dish as they know how to cook it on the barely done side and not overdone. The halibut melted as it was fresh and cooked perfectly. The ambience alone is worth the trip here.

Well wow. The ride there. The view when you get out of your car. The view when you walk into the restaurant. It's so neatly perched on the edge, that it just takes your breath away. Even the view from the bathroom window is delicious. I tired every kind of oyster they had. The Elkhorn were my favorite. They had a vegetarian gnocchi, which I enjoyed, but longed for a little more flavor. The staff was completely professional and attentive. Overall, I loved the experience dining here.

So my mom and I came here for lunch and made great memories. View ( yes come on you pay) was awesome. We had a glass of wine each and a dozen oysters and had to continue and had fried oysters with sweet potato fries. Pricy but worth the memory!

  • Camille Y.

Made a reservation for 4 people and the view they gave us was absolutely gorgeous, possibly the best in the house! The bay with the sun setting behind the mountains provided the perfect background to a lovely meal. I had the grilled salmon with a dozen oysters for an appetizer. The salmon was delicious, but the oysters were what took the cake. They gave me a sampler, so I had a little of everything. They also provided a kind of icy hard cider slush as a dipping sauce, and omg, I could sit there and eat oysters with that sauce all day. Definitely would come back again (and will!) As a side note, they ask that you not use your cell phone or bring in very young children, which I thought is a fabulous idea.

My dad and I stopped by after a hike up to oyster dome. The place seems small from outside but they have a downstairs area as well as a deck. This place is a hidden gem you have to check it out! Ken was our waiter and he will treat you like family! The food was amazing the oysters are fresh and pair real well with sweet potato fries. The deck outside has a really nice view and works really well if you need to plan a romantic night!

Really disappointed! My husband and I have been going here to eat for 11 years and now we can't because they will not let kids in under the age of 9yrs. I understand for dinner, but lunch, come on! Love the food but won't recommend due to the lack of kindness and support for family. Bummer really wanted to share this place with my kids and build a family tradition.

The oysters alone are worth the trip. Today's special was a Maine lobster. Incredibly good. Perfectly cooked. The fried oyster plate was fantastic. Don't know what they used in their sauce, but I want more.

  • Chuck R.

What a nice place! Large, fresh, delectable selection of oysters from Washington, Oregon, California, and elsewhere. As entrees, the four of us had meals of fresh fish, crab, and crab cakes--all prepared very well and presented by friendly and knowledgeable servers. The wine list is also wonderful. They even had King Estate Pinot Gris by the glass, something you don't find on most restaurants' wine lists. Service was amazing, they sent someone outside to explore possibilities for retrieving a camera we'd let slide out of our car and down the cliff, and we did get the camera back. Eat here, you will not be disappointed.

We stumbled upon this gem when we chose to take a back way home instead of I-5. The setting, service, and food were all incredible. I had the seafood salad and my friend had the crab melt sandwich. Both were delicious! Fresh raw oysters were also a treat.

My wife and I stopped here for lunch on our way from Vancouver to Seattle. She ordered Halibut fish tacos, which were perfectly spicy and fresh. I had the Halibut fish and chips which were crispy and not too breaded or greasy, easily one of the better fish and chips I've had. The view is worth the trip alone, but a great lunch makes it that much better. It is a bit pricy at $50+ for lunch, but the great service and excellent food make it worth the money.

  • Laura S.

This place has an incredible view and is worth the $ for that reason. The food is also very good but make sure you allow plenty of time because even though they weren't any more than half full it took quite awhile to get our lunch on a Sunday.

What an absolute delight for lunch ! Most likely the best oysters I have ever eaten. Being from the Deep South that is a major compliment. The view and service were impeccable. Our first meal in Washington after heading down from Vancouver.

The poet Léon-Paul Fargue (1876-1947) once wrote: "I love oysters. It's like kissing the sea on the lips." My husband and I stopped here on our drive to Vancouver, per all of the excellent reviews. I was a bit stunned when I entered and saw how fancy it was. Nevertheless, the waiter was extremely friendly despite my nerves and travel-rumpled jeans. You see, I had never tried an oyster before and my husband doesn't like seafood. The waiter was extremely knowledgeable. He knew just the one for me to try and it was delicious. I ordered a full platter. They're salty and savory. I've never tasted anything so fresh. My husband, meanwhile, thoroughly enjoyed his burger. We were seated by the window overlooking the bay. It was beautiful. Also, we could see some men dragging their oyster catch up from the beach. It's an experience not to be missed.

Came across this little hidden treat along Chuckanut Dr one Sunday afternoon while exploring the area. We stopped for a late lunch and were pleasantly surprised by the experience. It seems a bit upscale and we felt a bit out of place in our jeans and sweatshirts, but they made us feel welcomed. We were sat at a table overlooking the water and saw a bald eagle swoop into the trees while we were waiting to order. We tried a sampler of the various local oysters which I enjoyed, but my husband is not a huge fan of oysters. My husband really enjoyed the Crab & Cheddar Melt (which I wish I had gotten myself) and I had the Fish Tacos which were good and were very fresh - but I enjoyed my husband's choice better. We both enjoyed the Crème Brulee for dessert. All in all a very nice place to happen upon on a Sunday Drive along a beautiful scenic road. A bit off the beaten path - but well worth the drive, if just to get out of town for awhile. The place has what looks like a lovely patio deck - not sure how handicap friendly the place is, as we had to go up and down steps to get in/out of the place which is literally built into the side of the mountain. So those who are w/ strollers or wheelchair may face a bit of challenge - might want to call ahead as there maybe a handicap entrance.

Not impressed at all!! Three of us went for lunch. Two of us had the fish and rice. The fish was very greasy tasting. and the rice had no taste. When our server brought rolls to the table, he served 2 rolls for 3 people. When I asked for more he brought 2 more. The person who had oysters said they were good but was not impressed by the sweet potato fries. After we were served our meals our waiter diappeared, no refills for our soft drinks. When he came back with the check, over 70.00, he did ask if we wanted refills. Way too late! IVAR'S IS MUCH BETTER!!!!

This was an amazing place. The food was incredible with flavors that were complex and well-suited to the dishes. The service was great. Mark, our waiter, was very attentive but not overly so. He had a real passion for describing the dishes and his descriptions were right on. This is definitely our new romantic dinner spot.

This place was kind of confusing. It's very upscale in many aspects mainly the food and prices, but from the outside and the interior it seems to be less upscale. Don't get me wrong this place was pretty much a surprising oasis on a rural highway. We only got a couple appetizers after realizing the prices. I would defiantly go back with more money in my pocket and the knowledge I have now. The crowd was very very interesting to say the least. A lot of the strange crowd is not much of a suprise though with the location. We had the baked oysters and calimari. The oysters were amazing, so much in fact we bought a bag of oysters at the near by farm and tried to copy them without success. The calimari was good, but nothing to write home about. It was all around a great place with the view on a sunny day, a few beers and a couple of good appetizers.

Ok - soooo if you don't like raw oysters, you should probably NOT go to an oyster bar. But I do appreciate my husband for taking me. With that said, the poor guy had to endure (and I kid you not!) a filet mignon which I'm pretty sure was previously frozen... or something. It just wasn't right. And I decided I was going to try fried oysters - ACK. Please don't get me wrong. I love me some oysters. But I can't stand chomping down on black gooey bleck along with egg yokish liquid. I literally started to feel ill. (Yes yes, I know that black stuff is a delicacy - it's all yours, you can have it.) I did try the raw oysters. The waitress was so pleased when she came out to tell me they found 1 more of this special kind of oyster. You know what 1 last special oyster means? It was put aside for a reason. Because it wasn't worth serving. Out of my 6 oysters - 4 were fabulous. Unfortunately, I think 2 of them were found in the corner somewhere. Soooo yes, I reiterate: If you're going to go to an oyster bar - it's best to have the oysters. The raw ones. Oh my!! I almost forgot to mention the bill!!! 6 oysters, filet mignon, fried oyster dinner, small bottle of wine (was supposed to be 17 dollars and they charged 21; was going to say something but we just wanted to leave) and 2 beers came to 120 something. Add in the tip and you've got a WAY expensive bill for a not good enough meal.

I took my wife here for dinner last night which was our 3rd here overall and usually have a good experience, but last night was terrible. My wife had to ask the waitress to tell us about the specials, the rolls she brought us were burnt she replaced the burnt roll with another burnt roll, I ordered the seafood stew and about halfway through my lukewarm stew I found a 3" hair and I know this happens from time to time, but the waitress offered up no apology and replaced the stew which was actually hot this time. Was shocked when I received my bill and they offered up no compensation. Doubt we'll go back any time soon.

Several days ago I had the pleasant experience of the oyster bar. The building and equipment were clean and well maintained. Although they could use a carpet change. The food was outstanding! Great food with the price of a ( outback ). Service was very pleasant. Other than badly needing to add liquor to the menu, I would highly recommend!! I my self will be returning again soon.

Great view (recommend reservation or go there early for a window seats) (ask for balcony seating) Food: Fair Price: Over Clientele: Mostly older couple and seniors It's nice the host let me borrow their antique binocular. I just wish that they will clean it from time to time. The lens are covered with... stuff. Recommendation: Go for the scenery but not food. Oysters are fresh and tasty but at restaurant price on the up side. I found a secret place for cheap oyster price but high quality with great view and amazing experience. ;P

This place is far from fine dining. The food is awful and the service was lousy. The location and view are great but the food is out of 1980. This place needs new management with a trained chef. I ordered salmon and it was horribly overcooked. It was served with mixed veggies that were poorly prepared and slathered in butter. You can get a better vegetable side out of the frozen foot section. My plate was so greasy it was gross!! This place must be the stomping grounds for the uncultured masses. To call it fine dining is a joke. It's barely a step up from Denny's!!

Second star for the patio views only. Maybe I just don't like WA bay oysters, but I thought what they served were warm and borderline foul. Should have known this place was a trap from the schmarmy music, worn wall to wall carpeting, and white tablecloths. Who has white tablecloths in a bayside oyster bar?! Oh, and it's overpriced to boot. Whack. Keep going to Taylor.

My favorite romantic, beautiful restaurant. This place is such a gem. It's hidden off the side of Chuckanut Drive and has the best view one can imagine, perched high above the water. The food is deliciously prepared. Obviously, a lot of planning is involved in creating unique dishes with fresh, local ingredients here. The wine list fits wonderfully with the food. This is classic northwest. If you live here or if you're in town visiting, this is definitely the spot I recommend visiting for a very memorable evening.

This dainty roadside restaurant along the coast of the Pacific Northwest is a great place to enjoy the magnificent view overlooking the ocean while dining on fresh seafood. It is constructed like a cabin house with general seating on the main floor and a private dining area downstairs since it is built on a downhill slope. The area is gorgeous and the food is almost just as good. They have a great assortment of half-shell oysters and various seafood dishes like clam chowder and fresh fish. Overall food is pretty good and service is very hospitable. Great for family gatherings.

Everything p.e. said, except we didn't have the Shannen Dougherty hostess. :D Fantastic food. Great seafood. Great preparation. and hands down ****OUTSTANDING SERVICE****** We always have Mark as our waiter and he is simply fantastic. Let him pick a wine for you. He will bring a few suggestions in different price points. The guy knows his wine and will not steer you wrong. I was just there for my birthday last week. Wonderful. And for that person who said the portions were small. He/she must have a big appetite, because they are normal size portions. Especially when you enjoy a bunch of oysters on the half shell before your main course. I was stuffed and couldn't have dessert from oysters, bisque and sole as my main course. Plus yummy rolls served hot. Also to the lobster bisque complainer: That lobster bisque actually contained a bunch of lobster. That's what the "grainy bits" were. He/she was probably used to the lobster-flavored cream that cheapo restaurants pass off as lobster bisque. Oh and there IS an indoor bathroom downstairs for the cold winter nights. It has a lovely view of the bay out the window too. :D The Oyster Bar is worth the drive from Seattle.

We stopped here after passing it by for many years on our way to Taylor's. Even though we had a picked up some great seafood there, we were hungry and decided to stop and have lunch. Right away, we knew it would be pricy: candles at lunch and a big fat wine list are your first clue. We were seated promptly at a terrific table and scanned the menu. Surprisingly, no oysters on the half shell. What? Our waitress, who was sincere but a bit flustered, described some specials, one of which was a lobster roll for $35.00. No oysters on the half? Oh well. I ordered the baked oyster app, DH the seafood salad. I got a glass of wine, he a beer. The food came out promptly and was really really good. The oysters were perfectly baked with a terrific light topping. The rolls delish, and the salad very generous and tasty. So I would say it was a success, except a restaurant named The Oyster Bar really should have one, and we waited way too long for our check. It's worth the stop.

The food and the service at the Oyster Bar is unparalleled. The crab cakes (especially!) are incredible! The menu changes seasonally, and they use fresh local organic ingredients. The quality of the food, as well as the presentation is absolutely outstanding. Everything is cooked to perfection, and is just as visually pleasing as it is on your palate. This is by far the best restaurant in Bellingham. Great place to take a date, or to celebrate a special occasion. The servers truly personalize your dining experience. All in all: Absolutely Incredible, and unmatched!!

My husband and I stopped here on our way north to Vancouver BC and were very happy we did. Saturday afternoon about 1:30 and the place was busy. We had no reservation but were seated on the deck overlooking Samish Bay right away. Wonderful view! We ordered Samish Bay and Kumomoto oysters that were oh so fresh and sweet. My husband had the Kobe beef burger ( his go to food ) with and I ordered the fish tacos with the fish of the day (ling cod). My fish was seasoned well and not battered. Good thing! Two came on the plate. With the sweet potato fries and garlic aioli, it was plenty to eat. Prices may be a bit high, but for the view, great food and stellar service, we would definitely return.

I'd call the Oyster Bar a "find", but many others found the Oyster Bar first! Hey, I sure do get the sentiment of other Yelpers not wanting you to know about this diamond, the Oyster Bar, but it is just too good to not write about! We came this past Saturday afternoon with brilliant sunshine splashing down over Puget Sound and the San Juans in the distance. Walking in, we felt we would need to have had a reservation, but one of the hosts said the deck was great and recommended it to us. We were led down two flights of stairs to the deck which has four tables. We occupied the last empty table here. Despite the temperature of no more than 60 degrees and no gas heaters nearby, that bright sunshine from the west created just the right amount of warmth. Music, at the perfect volume level and consisting of a blend of vocal standards and classical instrumentals was piped out on to the deck. That, combined with glasses of pinot gris, made for a rather romantic setting. Our server was amazing, just amazing. Bearing a resemblance to actress Shannon Dougherty, she was able to rattle off the specials perfectly and with full details....using that soft and soothing voice of hers. We ordered off the appetizer menu. Of course, with a name of Oyster Bar, they had quite the selection of oysters, both in quantity and style prepared. We opted for the baked oysters. So good, just so good. Served on the shell with a bit of cheese, bacon and spinach, they were just right! We also ordered the crab cakes. Oh...my...gosh. These are the best ever. Aside from the large and plump pieces of crab, the cakes were cooked to perfect doneness with just the lightest and most delicate hint of currry. The cakes came with a smudge of yummy aiello and two kinds of a fruity preserve/jelly. Oh, for "pre-appetizers" we had the asparagus soup and the salmon chowder. Asparagus soup came with a few small bits of asparagus tips, garlic and a shaving of a nice dry white cheese. Spot on! The salmon chowder was excellent. Though it contained lots of spices, they were masterfully added, creating just the right flavor, not overwhelming at all. We would have had dessert, but we were disgusting earlier in the afternoon and stopped at a DQ in Burlington for ice cream. Dinner was perfect at the Oyster Bar in all aspects, but as a great final touch, our server offered to take our picture with our camera. I'd end by saying that the Oyster Bar understands completely what makes a great dining experience and it shows. Okay, so now that you have read this review, please don't tell anybody about the Oyster Bar.

An Exemplary Northwest Spot!... History...Location...Fresh Oysters/Seafood...Excellent Wait Staff and Kitchen...What a View!... I stopped in for a late lunch with a colleague and was pleasantly surprised. The oysters were excellent in choice and freshness(some plucked directly from the water within our view). I ordered the Seafood Stew with a curry coconut and lime broth... Outstanding!... Great place for a romantic evening.

What good stuff can I say that hasn't already been said about this place? Really, not much. So, I'll keep this review kinda short. Pros: * Great service * Fantastic view. * Great service * Really good food. * Great service * The drive to here is scenic. * Did I mention the service is really good? Cons: * The pillars have cheesy mirrors on them. OK, I had to come up with something for the cons section. * In order to use the restrooms you must exit the restaurant and enter from outside the building. I'm not sure of this belongs in the "pros" section or the "cons" section so I'll put it here all by itself: * The waitress looks like Shannen Daugherty. If you think Shannen is cool, then you should go the The Oyster Bar and see her. If you think she is uncool, then you should go to the Oyster Bar anyway. If you think I misspelled Shannen and that it should be spelled with an 'o' then take it up her with directly--because, hey, that's how she spells her name.

SUCH a refreshing change of drink options! Jim is the only bar tender and his menu consists of his own carefully created masterpieces and old-school classics which he treats with utmost respect. Never have I had so much originality, flavor and love put into a drink (this is the only place I'll have cocktails- as he manages to achieve amazing flavors naturally without sugar and syrupy crap!) Worth the wait for your drink to ensure its quality as he is more of meticulous scientist than a rapid paced bar-tender just trying to move people along. And the prices are right. (He uses flavors like lavender, chai, ginger, basil, rosemary . . . it's a beautiful thing.) Note: it's a tiny joint so avoid going on a weekend evening as it gets crowded, hot and uncomfortable with little seating.

The Oyster Bar is a beautiful restaurant with amazing oysters at cost. I took the folks here while they were on vacation and they loved it. $35 for a dozen but they have a good variety and all fresh and delicious. Service and setting are immaculate but we did experience a bit of a snooty attitude from the hostess because we had our son with us. Our child was well behaved but you can detect the stuffiness in the restaurant. We had ordered dozen oysters, mushroom tart, halibut soup, quinoa red pepper, fried oysters, and a ny sirloin. Everything was delicious but they under cooked the quinoa and the steak (ordered rare) was a bit tough and stringy in the middle. They did compensate us for the mistakes and we'd be happy to go back. This is a great place to take someone to impress them, but maybe not for a casual eat.

I can't believe we found a place in Bellingham that rivals Mama's Fish House in Maui! Not just the food, the atmosphere, the service, the view, but also the price. Outrageously expensive, but SO worth it for a rare treat.

My boyfriend and I where coming back from Semiahmoo for a weekend away and decided to stop by for lunch. We were lucky to be there at the right time, a gorgeous day and beautiful views. We had a great lunch and a great experience. When I mentioned it was my birthday, our waitress volunteered to take our picture and print it up for us right then and there. Amazing! They have a great wine list and with wonderful recommendations. The whole experience will be one I remember for a very long time!

I first went to the Oyster Bar 20 years ago, and was as impressed as a freshman in college can be. Since then, my experiences have broadened and the quality of food available from coast to coast has really gone up. But the Oyster Bar has stayed essentially the same. We went recently for a family event and while the table service was excellent, the food certainly didn't warrant the price, and our experience with the hostess was unacceptable. I started with the lobster bisque - served as a special for the evening. The flavor was good. But the texture was grainy, not creamy. There was a lump of cheese crouton in the middle that was utterly tasteless. For the main course, I had the wild game knoedel. This was essentially a pot roast with bison and elk, served with root vegetables and slices of knoedel in a broth. The vegetables and knoedel were really good. The meat, unbelievably, was dry and relatively tough. Game meat can be lean, but don't serve it if you don't have the skills to make it tender. The price was such that it should have been better. For desert, I ordered the pumpkin cheesecake which was fine (nice crust), but unremarkable. Others had the duck (good, but not outstanding), the oysters (looked good - and should be - but I didn't try them), the crabcakes (tasty) and the mahi mahi special (very good). Wine selection was nice, but in my opinion priced very high. The room is dated - like checking into a hotel that was once nice, but is getting a little tired. I'd ditch the mirrors on the support posts. And you should prepare to have an intimate meal with everyone else in the restaurant as well... diners are right on top of one another. This probably explains the rule about not seating children under 9 in the dining room - perfectly understandable. No one wants to eat an overpriced, mediocre, meal with kids running around the dining room. We actually had a 4 year old in our party and were told originally upon making the reservation about the rule - but that it would be 'okay' this time. We were a little hesitant, but decided to go forward with the reservation anyway. When we arrived, the hostess (who did not take the original reservation) made several attempts to seat us in the basement in a manner that can only be described as passive aggressive. We opted for the dining room, and our young guest was very well behaved. Crisis averted. My beef isn't with the rule - I don't have kids. I get that they aren't all good. My primary complaint is how they treated us once they made the decision to relax the rule - which wasn't good. Our server was outstanding and very accomodating. Our hostess, not so much. And given that the dining room was essentially empty on a Saturday night, I think service had better be top notch when you're paying a 20% premium. Particularly when the food doesn't support it. 2 stars may seem stingy. But the bad service at the hostess desk cost them a star. Otherwise I'd have given it three stars based on the food (3 stars), price (2 stars), and table service (4 stars). Sorry to say we won't be back without some major changes.

The Oyster Bar came highly recommended from some coworkers. I can say with confidence that this is one of the best seafood places I have ever eaten at. The drive to the restaurant on Chuckanut alone sets the stage for this place. Also as you walk in, the view of the bay makes all your worries go away and allow you to really relax. The food really kept the feeling going here. We started with the Morrels and they were outstanding. We also got an order of Oysters, we pretty much had to!, and they were great. I have never had Oysters this fresh and I don't know that I will even try. They won't beat the Oysters House's. I had some verrrrry fresh scallops for dinner and I mean wow. All of the flavors were paired extremely well and all were used to really present the Scallops. The wine list here is quite large and the servers will let you know what the perfect pairings are. The service here is also quite attentive as they will not intrude on your dinner experiance but understand when you will need something before you ask. Just perfect! If you are in the area and want to spend the money for a great meal, make a reservation at the Oyster Bar. You wont be dissapointed.

We flew in from LA and we were looking forward to eating here for two weeks. We researched Chuckanut Drive and were so excited to experience some beautiful seafood. My children are well mannered children who actually enjoy seafood. We were turned away because there are no children allowed. It was 2 o'clock in the afternoon. I was mortified. There are other places along this road that have wonderful service and great food.

Oyster Bar has a special place in my heart as it is where my husband proposed to me....15 years ago! We have been back 4 or 5 times since then and are always blown away. Everything is perfect - service, ambiance, and last but not least the food. PNW seafood really shines here. When I eat here I am reminded of why I live here. For a truly special experience, go to the Oyster Bar.

No doubt the best meal I have ever had in my life. Went here for my first wedding anniversary and was absolutely blown away. The service was friendly but not over bearing. The food was fresh, perfectly seasoned and cooked. If you go I'm sure it will make your top 5.

This cozy little establishment you may pass right by on Chuckanut Drive if you blink! Of all the oyster eateries on "Oyster Row" (aka Chuckanut Drive) I love The Oyster Bar best...how many times can I say oyster in a sentence? I went here after a hike at Larabee, and fell in love. Understated, and simple fresh Northwest seafood. Uncomplicated flavor accompaniments allow the natural essence of the cuisine to the palate. The staff is perfect and knowledgeable. Oh, and the VIEW is spectacular...even if you don't sit right at the window. They have a fireplace and plenty of intimate dining nooks. Perfect for friends, family, or a romantic dinner for two. See you after my next hike!

Wow. It's a bit pricey, but this one is worth it. Great, but not overbearing service. The view, well, there are few nicer ones in the world. Food was superb. Even standards like seafood salad, mussels, and cioppino were a little off the standard path for these items. Little creative tweaks made it much better and interesting. In particular the cioppino was not the usual Manhattan-clam-chowder with a few things floating in it. Great ingredients... great results. You've gotta try it.

Just wish there was a B&B next door so I could go all out. Great view, rustic, but romantic interior, impeccable service and the freshest oysters around. They have a value conscious champagne on the menu to wash down the oysters. Incredible view.
