The pho lacks a little compared to Pho Dang and Pho Hong, but the price is better and so are the waiting times. You can sit down right away here while Pho Dang has a line out the door. I had the beef pho, which included all cuts of beef. The meatball was a little too tough for me and there was no beef tendon, but for the price, I can't complain. We also tried the beer banh mi this time. The sauce was good and it was piping hot when it came out, but I do prefer the pork and chicken banh mi much more. This place is a lot less crowded than its counterpart across the street (*cough cough* Pho Dang). No wait and certainly no wait outside in the cold! I'll definitely take that and the prices!

The last couple of months when I want to order a bahn mi they are sold out. Ordered dumplings today and the nice lady informed me they were new. New and terrible the 3 of us concluded. We wanted to like them but they looked bad and tasted bad. Inconsistent quality of food is a real problem here. Its sad but Namaste Asian Market in Winooski its over between us.

We came here for dinner. Wow! What a great little place. We had the Veggie Dumplings, Shrimp Chow Mein and Spicy Rice Noodles with Shrimp. All were excellent. Portions are huge, prices are low and everyone is very friendly. We'll definitely be back!

Everything about Namaste is wonderful. The prices are awesome and the good is delicious. Occasionally they so not have some beverages it seems, but that is morning to hold against them. Their pork and chicken Bahn Mi are both super delicious. Vietnamese coffee is on point. No one should walk through those doors without getting an order of dumplings. Chow Mein is great too. Support this spot because they're making good food and are so hospitable.

My husband and I have been here several times together or individually. It is our go to place for reasonably priced Vietnamese food. We are always amazed at the portions for the reasonably cheap prices. The small noodle soups are big portions for just $6.95. The bahn mi sandwich just $4.50 for regular sandwich. The quality is decent. The soup has the best stock and ingredients. The dumplings are my favorite here. The cooks and servers are the nicest folks. As an Asian who grew up in NYC, I think it is hard to find asian food that hasn't been badly Americanized. Living in VT, ethnic foods are better here than Chinese and Japanese standards in the area. This restaurant does a reasonable job to keep it simple and true to the flavors of the ingredients.

Not only is the food delicious, but the staff always provides a warm welcome. Complimentary tea is a nice touch, even if you are just waiting for take out to be prepared. We most often go for the noodle dishes, but we have never had a miss with the soups. The value for your dollar is great. The seating is limited and it can be a bit cold in the winter months.

The dumplings were tasty, especially the sauce it came with! Also I got a beef banh mi, so fresh and with amazing chunks of beef steak. I'm drooling thinking about it haha

I've been to every single pho restaurant in Burlington ( ya I know- not saying much) and tried every vegetarian tofu pho around and this is one of the best vegetarian pho I've tried!!!! It has so much flavor and for a small size they give you so much! I love the soup broth and the smells, it smells and tastes wonderful. I couldn't finish it so I'm saving it for lunch the next day :) I only came here by accident. I went to pho hong first but it was 4:30 and they don't open until 5; which I hate because I keep forgetting!!!! I was too hungry to wait 30 minutes so as I was going home this place was on the way and I made the stop. The ladies working there are very friendly and nice. They even gave me sauce packets of sriracha sauce and hoisin. Also tried the Vietnamese coffee, it tastes really sweet which I do appreciate but didn't really keep me up from food coma. There's not alot of seating. Only 3 tables with total of 10 chairs so big groups beware. My recommendation is to try the pho! I've read previous reviews about the banh min- that's my next conquest.

Great tasting food and superb value. The banh mi sandwiches are especially good and only 4.50 each.... I have enjoyed everything i have ordered there.

I go here all the time and always get great service and fantastic food. The chow mein and pho are a solid 2-3 meals worth of food (easy!) for under $8. The bahn mi is amazing and the dumplings will rock your world. My girlfriend is vegetarian (I am not) and we both can get stuff we love! Everything is fresh, of high quality and very tasty.

My favorite Asian food in the Burlington area. Huge portions, very reasonable prices, great atmosphere, and a very friendly staff. I recommend the chow mein and you can't go wrong with a $3.50 banh mi sandwich.

When the owner is cooking the food is out of this world and easily bests most other Asian restaurants in the area. Every dish he prepares is fantastic and his enthusiasm for his cooking proves it. You can tell that he is proud of what he cooks and it shows. Although the lady working there originally, couldn't quite match the style of the owner, these days, she has improved quite a bit. Highly recommended.

Great and friendly staff! You can't beat the prices and you get a lot of food. The tea is excellent! I got the bok choy lemongrass chicken. It was so good fresh tasting! Also trying there dumplings.

I'll admit I haven't ventured far in the menu, but the bánh mì is my favorite around. The service is extremely friendly, and Khan genuinely cares what you think of his food. recognizing my husband and I as regulars, when he changed the sauce on the bánh mì he implored us to call him when we got home with our take out and let him know how it was. Everything here has a freshness to it- crisp veggies, flavorful sauces, and the prices are incredibly cheap.

My boyfriend and I have been loyal customers for over a year, as the dishes have always exceeded our expectations. I would recommend this place over Pho Dang and Pho Hong, as their portions are generous (especially the noodle soups and rice dishes) and affordable (between $6-9 for an entree). If you are trying this place for the first time, I recommend any of the noodle soups (the wonton noodle soup is my boyfriend and I's favorite!), dumplings, lo mein dishes or fried rice dishes. The lo mein and fried rice dishes are safe bets for those who enjoy these dishes in other Asian cuisines. Quick tip: The small portions of the noodle soups, lo mein, chow mein and fried rice dishes are incredibly generous -- you may likely have leftovers! The ingredients are fresh, as the owner of the restaurant also owns a market across the street, and the kitchen is located behind the counter, so you can watch your dish being made. The limited seating may deter some people, but it is well worth the wait. As someone who grew up in New York City with an abundance of Vietnamese restaurants around, this restaurant does an excellent job of making comparable authentic Vietnamese dishes.

So this place is either FREAKING AWESOME or a little disappointing, you see that reflected in these reviews. I go here a bunch and think I have figured out the issue, depends on the cook! The owner (very friendly guy always has a smile on his face, don't know his name) is the guy you want. His portions are larger and much more fresh veggies. The food is consistently AMAZING when he's the chef. Prob would still think the food is good, but after tasting what the owner dishes out...nothing compares. I've noticed that Mondays are one of the days he does not cook.

Perfect lunch spot for a sit down or when on the fly. I always take a sandwich to go!

  • Mieneke M.

Our first visit was hot and cold. Their special of the day was somosas , 4 nice and hot somosas that tasted great and the fresh "tomato relish" was a nice addition. These were followed by the most unimaginative and bland spring rollls ever. Next came the Pho, this soup needs a kick in the soup pan, minimal flavor. The chow mein was good but the sandwiches were average in flavor but nice, warm and crusty bread. Judging by the favorable reviews we might have hit an off day but not going to be repeating a visit too soon.

Dharshan will provide you one of the best nepali/vietnamese dinners you can get in vermont. It was so delicious - banh mi, dumplings, pho...the portions were huge. service was excellent and they clearly took pride in their food. we will definitely be coming back

  • James M.

I cannot recommend the chicken lo-mein here enough. Many people have pointed out that the Pho is great, but I always go with this dish because it's $6, accented with cilantro, peppers and spices and the small is enough to feed two people. Definitely worth it!

Very good food, especially for such a cheap price. If a restaurant serves Lo Mein (which this one does), I find that the quality of that dish is a good representation of how the rest of the food tastes, and their Lo Mein is my favorite in the area. Currently their Bahn Mi has been inconsistent; some days it's amazing, other days it's meh. Truth be told, I'm such a sucker for it that I always tend to enjoy it. They have specials that change every day or so, but the prices are low enough that you can afford to eat lunch there a few times a week and not feel like you're throwing money away. They're still kind of new, so they're working out the kinks and figuring out what works. The owners are incredibly friendly and welcoming. It's very clear that they're so thrilled to be bringing you on an expedition of flavors. For the initial 7days article about the restaurant, feel free to visit: bit.ly/1blnZiL

Great spot for what it is. Cheap, no frills Vietnamese with a few Nepalese dishes also. The Banh Mi is a great deal for $3.50-$4.50. I prefer the chicken to the pork (similar to bologna). The dumplings are simple and delicious. I especially like the salsa-like dipping sauce they come with. Last time I was there, they had pyaji (similar to pakoras) 2 for $1. I love the feel of the place. It's much smaller than Pho Dang and Pho Hong (only 4 tables) and feels kind of like you're eating in someone's home. Will be back often!

we have always gone to Pho Dang across the street but thought we would try this new place. It was excellent. ... Had the pho ga and my companion had 30b which she liked after adding both the sweet and hot sauces . Now hard to decide which place to choose... A pleasant surprise,

Wait!! If you don't look closely, you might miss it and that would be a BIG mistake. I happened to park right in front and, incidentally, across from the (currently) better known Pho Dang. Always willing to try new places, we decided to give it a try. From the moment we were greeted and struck up a conversation with the host and cook, this place only got better. We ordered our lunch, tailored exactly how we like it, (for me that means no MSG and very spicy) and enjoyed an appetizer. It was also very nice of our host to actually tell us how much food to order (based on his knowledge of how big his portions are) versus other places that seemingly don't care, except that you're spending money. Turns out, he had it exactly right , we were sated but not overly stuffed. The main point, the food, was absolutely fabulous, cooked to order, using fresh vegetables, and tofu that was perfectly golden-seared. It was delicious!! Nothing more to say really-we will be back. You should go too.

Bahn mi - outstanding. Pho - outstanding. Dumplings - outstanding. Spring rolls - outstanding. Everything here is incredible and a great value. It's all priced so well and you will not leave feeling empty bellied. If you are vegan or vegetarian, just say so, and they'll be happy to accommodate you. The accent/language barrier has been an issue but they have been very quick to correct any mistakes, and frankly, if I am having any kind of ethnic food, it's a little bit of a validation when the biggest problem I've ever had is that they didn't understand what I meant by "light cilantro". The owner is one of the hardest working business owner's I've ever met and is also super friendly. If you're feeling adventurous, ask them to guide you and make some recommendations and you won't go wrong. Always happy to support this place where you always expect to be greeted with a smile and know your business is much appreciated.

The best pho you'll find for many miles. Rich, flavorful broth and very generous with their ingredients (I ordered a large beef pho). I seriously drank every last drop. Cute little place run by very friendly people. Can't believe I didn't try this place sooner. Will definitely be back.

I was heading to pho hong and stumbled upon this gem. I know they're bahn mi sandwiches have been ragged on in other reviews, but maybe they've changed their style since then because this is the best bahn mi sandwich in the area hands down. Most other places in town offering cheap bahn mi contain way too much bread for the amount of filling. The pork was wonderfully fatty as belly meat is supposed to be and the forcemeat filling was phenomenal. Plus a wonderful syle hot sauce and pickled vegetables. You can't beat this sand which for the price either; subway ain't got anything on this $3.50 footlong! (it's funny how the going rate for a bahn mi sandwich anywhere in the burlington area is $3.50. I wonder how long it'll be before these asian markets realize that most other american delis can get $7-10 for a sandwich of similar size)

This place is very inconsistent in terms of how the banh mi tastes. We have tried places like 99 Asian Market and M Saigon, and this place is probably the worst out of the 3. When we first tried this place a few months ago, the banh mi tasted alright, not the best I've had, but it was decent for the price. The last time we bought banh mi a few days ago, it was cold, the bread was kind of hard, there were no carrots or daikon in the sandwich, and the paste they used was VERY SALTY. How do you not have carrots and daikon in a Vietnamese sandwich? I'm not Vietnamese or anything, but from what I hear, this is an essential to make a good Vietnamese sandwich. Also, the paste was just so salty, that I could not even finish my sandwich. I took about 2 bites and threw the rest out. If you want a GOOD banh mi sandwich, I would recommend going to M Saigon instead. It may be a bit moer pricey, but is definitely worth the extra cost.

  • Patrick R.

This is a nice and cheap Vietnamese place that serves some of the best Vietnamese coffee I have ever had. They have banh mi, but they are sub-par in my opinion. If they would put some more meat on the sandwich or some more pickled veggies, the sandwich would improve considerably. The saving grace of the sandwiches is that they are very cheap, so if you are on a budget they do the trick. The specials are fantastic though. The menu is pretty okay for right now (I think they are just starting), but it seems that they could probably make you whatever you wanted if you asked. The owner/manager is super-friendly and a pleasure to be around.

I was excited to try this place because of the review from Seven Days. It is clear that ALL food critics should have a refined palate & an expansive knowledge about different foods. The Banh Mi is amazingly disgusting and not anywhere similar to an authentic one; I gave the meat part to my dog & threw the rest. I also ordered other items on the menu and was very much dissatisfied. They should just stick with their retail store or remove all food items (from the menu) that they presume to know how to prepare. There is a reason this place is cheap...fast food places are better than this, do not waste your money.

Revisited recently and the Bahn Mi was very good. Still a little light on filling but a whole different beast than my first visit. The bread was great. I'll be back.

I had a veggie bahn mi and it was amazing. Fresh bread, really well cooked flavorful tofu and lots of toppings. It was really good and cheap. The owner was very nice and knowing I asked for a tofu bahn mi made sure I wasn't vegan. Offered me tea and overall very nice and welcoming. Will definitely go again!!

  • M P.

First of all, the people there are nice, but to be honest the BANH MI is inconsistent. The sandwich doesn't even taste like a "vietnamese sandwich". I know because I am Vietnamese. We ordered a pork banh mi today and the type of pork was not what we've seen before. This isn't just today but previous times we ordered pork banh mi and they gave us another different type of pork. Very INCONSISTENT and the bread itself isn't all that great. I've honestly have better, more consistent sandwiches like at 99 asian market in winooski. I also heard M-saigon has good banh mi as well so definitely will try that instead.

We went the other day for lunch and the chicken dumplings were to die for. Fresh, steamed, and served quickly. Homemade sauces were delicious. Worth return visits. The Pho was also really good with fresh ingredients. A slightly different taste than I was expecting, but tasty. Also very fresh. The deli is small but they have table service.

Affordable, fresh ingredients, clean, friendly staff, and a diverse small menu. Pho is delicious, banh mi was great- especially because it's hard to find a banh mi around here sometimes. Their menu has Vietnamese and Nepalese dishes, and my chicken Pho came with what looked to be two entire chicken breasts. It was delicious. Purists may be disappointed; I was happy.

Dharshan Namaste is a hidden gem! I was dying for some Pho because I'd been in Vermont for a whole week and had been eating nothing but non-Asian food. Before boarding the plane back to California, I did a nearby search and found Pho Dang. Fortunately, they were closed. As I turned to get back into my car, a light hit Namaste's window and caught my eyes. A guy who I later found out is the waiter there said hello to me with a smile as he walked out the door and that was when I saw the word "PHO" written on their window. I apprehensively looked into the restaurant. It looks more Nepalese or Indian. I was confused because it says they also serve Viet food. What the heck? I was hungry and out of time so I just took the plunge. Grabbing my empty stomach and reluctant boyfriend, I walked in consoling myself mentally because this would only be a quick meal so if it sucked, it's ok. Thanh, the owner, was welcoming and friendly. You can immediately tell that he is very proud of his restaurant and food. As we perused the menu, people came in and out and they all knew him. I don't know if this is the case with other people, but when I go eat anywhere, I appreciate it when there are regulars because it means the food must be pretty good. In his case, Thanh's customers were all regulars. Good sign! I ordered a Pho Ga (Chicken Pho), and my boyfriend ordered a pork Banh Mi. As we waited for our food, I struck up a conversation with Thanh. I thought he was SouthAsian or Hispanic but it turns out he is Vietnamese and his wife is Nepalese. I loved talking to him! Vermont had been great so far but meeting Thanh and his wife absolutely added so much more heart to my overall impression. They were so kind, honest, considerate, and genuine! Just because we were Vietnamese patrons, he changed his music to Vietnamese music! LOL it was wonderful! Because the kitchen was literally right behind the counter, I could see everything Thanh was doing and he was telling me what he added to his broth. It was a show in itself haha. When the food came out, it smelled so good! The chicken Pho is definitely not the traditional Pho. He actually had broccoli and bok choy in there. It was odd, but in a good way. Trust me. My broth was perfect. The chicken broth was perfectly seasoned and carried with it a delicate umami flavor. The vegetables were cooked just right. Then, Thanh came out with his own special chili sauce. HOLY GOD, that sauce is the bomb! He said that because I can eat spicy food, I'd probably appreciate this sauce more than the sriracha sauce. Yup, he was right because I still can't get that sauce out of my head. I felt like I was being cared for by my big brother who knew exactly what I liked. My boyfriend absolutely loved his Pork Banh Mi, he said it was the best he's ever had because it tasted so fresh. I've never seen that guy finish a sandwich with more zest and zeal. He finished it so fast, I didn't get a taste haha. But I trust his enthusiastic review and squirrel faced nods! After we finished our meals, Thanh put a plate of Guava (a tropical fruit that is sort of hard to come by) in front of us. It was so unexpectedly sweet of him. I was so touched by his hospitality and kindness. Then, as I was eating the guavas, he packed the hot sauce for me to go! To add to the love brimming out of my heart, he also packed a second sauce for me to try when I get home. The fact that he did this all without me asking was what really touched me. He went out of his way to make my experience the very best I've EVER had, anywhere! Thanh undeniably and wholeheartedly deserves your business. His food is delicious. His service is stupendous. He is a phenomenal host. I wish I had found his restaurant earlier so I could enjoy it more than once. If you live close by, don't pass up your luck. Walk in, order a bowl of deliciousness and meet Thanh!

I can only vouch for the Deli's dumplings and fried rice options but they are delicious and use fresh ingredients and the rice portions are absolutely HUGE. They're also a surprise, as I never know what combination of vegetables will be thrown into my rice order on any given day (it seems to vary, which I love). Also, the last time I ordered chicken fried rice as takeout and didn't realize that they'd given me pork fried rice until I was back in my office. I roll with the punches, but if you've got dietary restrictions or meat preferences, I would double check with them before ordering or consuming. The people behind the counter are always courteous and accommodating, and always offer tea when I wait for takeout orders. Eating in is a cozy affair, as they have limited seating, but it's also an enjoyable experience. Bottom line: cheap, delicious, good service. So grateful to have as a lunch option during the work day.

Wow. This place was ridiculously good! The portions are gigantic, the prices..I almost want to talk to the owner about raising the prices because I literally felt like I was stealing from this family! I went in with four people, ordered almost everything on the menu (I'm talking: beef bahn mi, pork bahn mi, 2 veggie spring rolls, pork dumplings, chicken lo mein, hot wings, lemongrass flat noodle dish...), and our bill was a merely 45$. The food was all served piping hot, heaping portions, perfectly seasoned, and extremely affordable. The family was very sweet and friendly, and I will 1000% be returning!

Best Vietnamese food in the Burlington area. Portions are generous and affordable. I've yet to try something that wasn't absolutely delicious. The banh mi sandwiches are a fantastic deal. Other favorites include the Pho Bo beef noodle soup, the Nepali style house special chow mein and the hand made dumplings. Good options for vegetarian and gluten free folks.

  • Rachael T.

I'm gluten free and have been to other Vietnamese spots in town that simply don't put any type of sauce on bc I can't do soy or hoisin. I got the shrimp rice noodles and vegetables and the chef on the spot made me a homemade GF sauce for my meal. It was so amazing and I hope he can replicate it again!

Highlights: Pros: Price, portions, staff, and dumplings. Cons: Inconsistent quality of food, and order mistakes. I have been to Namaste 3 times. The first experience was okay, the second experience was as good as it gets, and the third experience was not very good at all. I rated my first experience a 3 out of 5 stars, my second experience a 5 out of 5 stars, and my 3rd experience a 1 out of 5 stars. I gave the restaurant 3 out of 5 stars overall because that was the average of the 3 visits. My favorite things about the restaurant are the extremely friendly and courteous staff, the very reasonable/low prices, the quick turn-around time for take-out orders, and the dumplings and chow mein. Of all of the items I have ordered I would say those two are the best I have tried. I found the banh mi to be average, but not as good as M-Saigon. The second time I went to the restaurant the food was as good, if not better than anything I have ever eaten at Pho Hong, which I consider to be a pretty big compliment. Everything tasted fresh, was seasoned perfectly, and was very flavorful. Plus the portions are gigantic! For the price, you really cannot beat it. My main issue with the restaurant is consistency. In two of the three occasions that I ate there, at least one item in my order was incorrect. For example, in my last order I received Beef Lo Mein instead of Beef Chow Mein and Pork and Rice Noodles instead of Tofu and Rice Noodles. The quality of the meat in my last two experiences were not very good either. There was a lot of fat and cartilage attached to the meat and it was cooked to the point of toughness. This was most prevalent in my most recent dining experience in which I ended up eating something else because the meat was so unappetizing. I am really hoping this was an anomaly and the cooking staff had an off-night. I plan on going back because the staff is so kind and friendly, and I really do want to support their business. All three times I have gone they provided complimentary tea, and gave me extra portions. For example, if I ordered a small order of dumplings (6 dumplings) I received a large order (12 dumplings) for the same price. I am hoping to have an experience similar to the second time I went where I would say it was some of my favorite Asian food that I have eaten in Burlington. Namaste is absolutely worth checking out if you live in the New North End. I am hopeful that it is still early in the process and they will iron out some of the issues and become more consistent.

I met a friend for dinner here and I liked it. I'm a loyal Pho Dang customer and wanted to see what another place was like. This place is different and stands on its own. I would not call it Vietnamese, as nobody there seems to be from Vietnam. The food is good and portions are big and cheap. We had chow mien noodles with beef and it was very fresh. We also had vermicelli with sprouts and it was great. Dumplings were good. Organization and details are a little lacking. Our order was run to a different table and then delivered to us. We also ordered spring rolls and they never showed, though they at least tried to charge and understood when we disputed the bill. Great food, nice service, a little disorganized, and wonderful character.
