If you're looking for old Vermont charm this place is for you. Lobby and restaurant are charming(wish the owner would make the fire bigger and kept it alive during the evening, it was on the small side if it was there in the first place) Rooms are really small and bathrooms even smaller lol bring ear plugs as the walls are paper thin. Overall we knew what we where getting in to and enjoyed our stay. Restaurant is great food was delicious, prime rib was good and portions where huge.

After years and years of skiing at Mount Snow and staying at places all over the area I finally have a place to call home. The price for a clean and well appointed room is more than fair. I had to do a double take when I paid for my first stay because the value was incredible. You just can't stay anywhere else at these fair prices! The service of Janet and her staff are unparalleled. I had some friends coming in to meet me the second day of my most recent stay and Janet was very helpful in making sure that we were all able to be accommodated. The restaurant located at the Red Mill is just perfect. Be ready to walk out with a full belly of great food and craft beer! Spend some apres ski time chatting up the friendly bartender and nice clientele at the cozy bar in the restaurant. Need a change of pace? The Old Red Mill is a 30 second walk into the charming town of Wilmington. Bars, restaurants, pizza and live music are all within a very short walk. Have a few responsible cocktails in town and not worry about the drive back! In a nutshell: Are looking for a cozy, economical and friendly hotel, with a great bar and restaurant within walking distance of all that Southern Vermont has to offer? Look no further than the Old Red Mill. Oh and I almost forgot to mention that you can be at the mountain from the Old Red Mill in 15 minutes...you just cant beat it!

This is actually a two-part review; I stayed here AND dined here (for lunch and dinner on two separate days) and if one was to halve my review, both the accommodations and dining would get four stars -- and I'll explain why. Firstly, the dining, which I presume is why you're reading this. Dependent on the season, the service is primarily inside (which you can't miss if you walk into the Old Red Mill from the main entrance) or at Jerry's Deck, which is connected and located "next door," and has a separate entrance from the Inn itself. We were here for the Tough Mudder 2013, and expected the place to be fairly busy. The first day, I spent time at the bar on the deck, and had a burger with chips. It was a perfectly done burger. This may not seem like a big deal, but places mess up temperatures on burgers. Mine was a perfect medium with Vermont cheddar. They had four beers on draft (three local micros and Shock Top) and the locals were all great beers. The service was at the bar, and given that there were only a few tables of people (this was around noonish), food came at a good pace. No complaints. The second day, a friend and I came in for an early dinner around 4pm, and the deck was hopping. All tables save for a couple were full, the bar was full, and everyone was eating and seemed happy. (Not like I was listening in, but as a server, I feel I can spot a p.o.'ed table of customers.) We started off with a half-pound of peel & eat shrimp (which were spot on) and then for the main course, he had the 12 oz. strip and I had the grilled lobster. Both were great. I've read reviews complaining about food being slow. There were three servers on, I believe (maybe four) and folks were ordering and eating the whole time. Those servers were MOVING. Ours was nice enough to let us know, post-shrimp app, that our entrees would be coming in a little bit. That's cool by me -- at least she let me know. It wasn't a long wait (I mean, yeah, we were hungry, but we just finished a Tough Mudder a couple of hours ago) and you can't fault a busy place for BEING BUSY. Sometimes issues come up, and as long as it's conveyed that you're still on the radar, that's good enough for me. Bottom line: everything was excellent, and I'd eat here again. Now, the accommodations. You should know that the place made Yankee Magazine's "Best Bargain" two years in a row. The rooms are cheap, and they're not big. If you're looking for spacious, look elsewhere. This does not make them bad rooms, though! They're small, cozy, and clean. The walls ARE a bit on the thin side, but as we stayed there, most guests were cognizant of others and weren't loud (save for a couple, but I should have brought earplugs). Really, it's a great place to stay, and we had no issues with parking, linens, water pressure, nothing. It was fine. The Inn does NOT have 24-hour staffing, so make note of that if you think you might have some sort of late-night issue. You can call the owner (his number is located at the front desk) but I can't quite imagine what sort of issue you'd have. Overall, worth the visit/stay!

Jerry's Deck is a great place to enjoy the beauty of southern Vermont. We ordered two burgers medium. Unfortunately they were dry and way over cooked. The grill is located adjacent to the eating area so I started watching the cook. He takes his spatula and flattens the burgers several times while cooking removing all the jucies. No wonder they were dry. I've seen friends do this but not in a restaurant. Our waitress Patti was excellent and the atmosphere couldn't be better. Come on Jerry, let's fix the burgers

Ate there Sat nite. Had to ask three times for water and ketchup. Cheese on cheeseburger was raw/cold. Overcharged on glasses of wine relative to price listed on menu. When called to the attention of server she checked with bartender who said that they were out of the wine I ordered. Probably so but they should have absorbed the extra $1.00 per glass, It's big profit margin anyway. Phil Chappaqua N.Y.

My friends and I just walked in just before a snow storm was reported to be coming in! We were starving and the owner, staff were quick to take us and make sure we were taken care of. I ordered the duck and was absolutely tender, juicy and so well-made my friends and I were talking about it the entire week!! The Old Red Mill Inn is perfectly located between other shops and stores. Highly recommended and look forward to visiting again!

Very mixed emotions on this place.... My first experience was great and I really enjoyed it.... My wife and I where out on a Friday last spring ridding though VT and looking for a place to stay when we happened to pass though Wilmington VT and saw the Old Mill Inn and Restaurant. The gentleman at the desk couldn't have been any nicer or more helpful. He came outside and helped me find a good flat spot to park the bike, set us up with a room and gave us all kinds of dinning options in town including their own... The room was very small but nice enough, clean, comfortable and had a great view of the river... We cleaned up and had dinner out on the deck..The sun was just going down and it was a beautiful night to sit outside. We picked a table at the edge of the deck hanging over the river and ordered a couple of Margaritas' (Okay, I ordered a couple of Margaritas') Nicely made, well balanced. Our dinner was excellent, My wife had a Caesar salad and I started with a side salad. Both chilled and very fresh...I ordered and got a perfectly prepared burger, rare with local gouda on a fresh baked bun ...we split a great piece of chocolate cake with coffee for desert and both where great... The waitress couldn't have been more attentive, very nice, very professional. The Inn was pretty full that night due to a local event but we slept very comfortable and soundly...Got up the next day and continued on our way ... So what's not to like? My second visit wasn't so great. In fact it was pretty bad....Myself and some friends where ridding through the area when I suggested we stop at the Old Mill for lunch.. We pulled in and right away we felt unwelcome....We had a party of 9 or 10 and understood we had just dropped in out of the blue on a Sunday afternoon but you would have thought we just crashed a wedding.. There where a few people there but by no means was it busy.. You could see the staff was none to happy to see or help us.. We helped pushed a few table together and tried to ordered but after a while we just grabbed a few beers from the bar... The waitress they assigned us was completely undertrained and frazzled. The poor women was so confused and out of her element...We saw her asking for help but the other wait staff just couldn't be bothered with her or us.... The cook at the outdoor grill was more interested talking and dropping F bombs loud enough for all to hear as she told another staff member who was chain smoking her tails of woe...Hey, I can toss a few 4 letter words around myself but there is a time and place for it.... Our food took a long time and came out terrible. over cooked and just not presented well at all...No one was happy or had anything good to say about it. Our waitress just about disappeared and we had to ask another twice for a few things like ketchup, water, napkins, etc... When we did get the check our original waitress went into a tizzy because we wanted it split it few ways and had a couple of credit cards... It was really embarrassing. I had told these people all about what a great place the Old Mill Inn was and we left I was apologizing left and right... I understand every place has good day's and bad but this was so radically different it makes you wonder if it's even somewhere in the middle is it worth the effort?

Don't come here if you're hungry! We waited for an hour (yes, literally) for burgers. It was a Friday night and we got there at about 7:15 (party of four). It had started raining pretty hard so we opted to sit inside, rather than the deck. Had we known that the people who sit on the deck (apparently) get serving priority, we would have sat there instead. The dining room where we were seated was pretty quiet - there were maybe 3 or 4 tables of guests aside from our table. The waitress took our drink orders, set down a basket of potato chips, took our food order...and then literally disappeared for 45 minutes. I was wrapped up in the conversation with my friends, but I started checking the time because it seemed like some time had passed before we saw the waitress. By this point, our drinks were long drained and the chips were gone...and we were really hungry! She re-appeared and apologized, saying that it had been quiet when we'd gotten there...but then the deck had filled up with customers and the kitchen had fallen behind. Wait a minute...so, it's 45 minutes and we didn't get our food because the deck filled up with people who arrived AFTER we did? What does that mean? Our orders presumably went to the kitchen before all these other customers came in. Is it safe to think that we should have had some priority where the order's concerned? She said "the wait will be worth it, I promise." Well, even if that burger had come infused with truffle oil, foie gras or whatever, I don't think I would have willingly waited an hour for it. The burger made its appearance shortly after the one-hour mark and was okay. It came with a side of pasta salad and I honestly don't see how assembling this meal took an hour. My husband also had a cheeseburger. Our friends had a haddock sandwich and a Caesar's salad with salmon (and the salad simply had romaine lettuce and croutons and nothing else). I read that another reviewer was offered a dessert on the house. It would have been a nice move to offer us something too - a free appetizer during the 1+ hour wait, free dessert, something! It was clear that we were not happy about the wait. . It's a shame because I liked the interior and the setting on the river was nice. But based on the average food, and the expensive-for-what-you-get prices, there are better places to eat.

This review is based on Friday night dinner. On my way over to NY from NH, I stopped for dinner at the Old Red Mill Inn, located near the center of Wilmington. The Old Red Mill Inn is housed in an old lumber mill with high ceilings, wooden floors and wooden beams, which has a bar/lounge area and two spacious dining rooms with table seating. The center dining area has painted wood floors with a salad bar in the middle and the north dining room is carpeted with a fireplace and is decorated with old wheels and paintings. The dinner menu offerings include steaks, seafood, chicken, ribs, pasta, salads, soups, and homemade desserts. Daily specials are offered along with a beer and wine list. The prices are moderate to pricey, entree prices in the $17 to $34 range and all entrees include the salad bar and bread. Minimum charge per person is $8. I arrived here just after 5PM and was greeted by the bartender. The place really wasn't that busy yet. He did ask me if I came from skiing, since this place is very close to Mount Snow. I told him I was on my way over to NY and passing through town. I could sit anywhere I'd like and chose a table by the back window overlooking the frozen river. The lighting throughout the whole place was on the dim side with clear glass candle holders lit at each table. The atmosphere was pretty relaxed and laid back. The waitress came over promptly with ice water and I quickly decided that I was going to have the Pasta of the Day ($16.95) which was Italian Sausage & Beef Lasagna. I helped myself to the salad bar station which had such things as romaine lettuce, spinach, field greens, cherry tomatoes, feta, gorgonzola, Greek olives (with pits), shredded carrots, chick peas, beets, dressings, real bacon bits, anchovies, an Asian noodle salad with snow peas, and a bread carving area. The items on the salad bar tasted fresh and the fresh baked bread was crusty outside, soft inside and very good. However, the Asian noodle salad was very salty tasting. The dinner entree (lasagna) arrived 30 minutes after ordering. The baked lasagna was piping hot with a side of vegetables (zucchini medley). The lasagna was very good, which was layered with cheeses, firm noodles, rich tomato sauce, fresh zucchini, portabella mushrooms. carrots, and eggplant. However this was NOT what I intended to order expecting lots of meat and sausage in the lasagna as I ordered. I informed the waitress of what I received and she went back to the kitchen to find out what was really the special pasta dish. A few moments later, the waitress came out and apologized for the mistake and as a result, told me to save room for dessert since it was on the house. The dessert choices include cakes, Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream, brownie ala mode, and maple bread pudding with vanilla ice cream. I chose the latter. The Maple Bread Pudding was served hot with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. This dessert tasted sweet all around with big chewy and soft bread pieces along with maple syrup drizzle and the ice cream was a nice refreshing touch. The check came out to $18.48 with tax and before tip, on the low side here. Overall, most of the food I had was very good even with the blooper. The vegetable lasagna was very filling to eat, plus two bowls of salad & bread and I just about almost passed on the dessert offer. It very hard was hard to say no to bread pudding. The service here was acceptable. I was given refills on the ice water as needed, especially needed after eating the salty noodle salad. The staff especially the bartender was nice as I was greeted when I walked in, asked how the food was, and was told to have a good trip over the mountain as I left. I did have a decent and very busy drive the rest of the way with lots of headlights going east in the opposite direction between Troy NY and Bennington. I had to focus along the shoulder to avoid being blinded by the bright lights. The majority of the license plates were black on yellow. New Jersey folks sure love Vermont all year round. restaurant review - I hate to let out the secret, but this is the best place for dinner in Wilmington. The inn is in a beautiful building by the river. In an area with a lot of burger and pizza joints, the Old Red Mill serves up that as well as higher end fare. DH always gets the pork chop, kids love the kids menu options, and I love the salad bar. Definitely get the bread pudding. Bonus that there are great beers on tap. The service is not the fastest, but the staff is lovely.

5 stars for atmosphere alone at Jerry's Deck (their restaurant). One part crab shack, one part margaritaville, one part chuckwagon, one part small town charm, this place was a true pleasure. One of the most charming accidental discoveries of all my travels. Good food, and lovely in nice weather-the whole back wall opens to a riverview deck where they're boiling lobsters and fresh corn on the cob... all in the quaintness of a historic old river mill. You can hardly beat the charm of this place!

Most of he restaurants in town are just too expensive--closer to NYC than VT--but this place is a bit more reasonable and less pretentious. The setting is casual -- warm and welcoming, and the entrees are nothing fancy but you can count on them being cooked well. My favorite aspect is the salad bar on which you can easily make a meal--very fresh.

Great salad bar but everything else was merely ok. My fish was drowning in sauce and the broccoli was overcooked, our brownie was burned on the bottom. Disappointing at these prices.

Spent the weekend snowboarding at Mount Snow and after a few evenings of bad service and less than stellar food we went to the Old Red Mill for a late (by Vermont standards) Saturday night dinner. We've been here before. It was years before I joined yelp.com so this review is well overdue. Service was good, friendly and attentive. We were a big group of seven and due to snow and wind they were able to accommodate us right away. We ordered everything from steaks to fish to duck and everything was great! Half of us were waiting to go to the salad bar after our entrees arrived and the owner, noticing a few of us had not gotten up to make salads, came up to us to let us know they would be closing early due to the weather and would be closing down the salad bar so we were able to make our salads ahead to save for after our meal. Although they were closing early we were not rushed out not even after we had finished out dessert and coffee. We even joked about just renting rooms upstairs and sleeping there since the weather was getting worse. Had we not had to go back to the house we were renting in West Wendover to walk our dogs we probably would have too! Will definitely come back the next time we are in the area.

BEST HOMEMADE FOOD IN WILMINGTON VT. You get quite a bang for your buck here. The portions are HUGE and when they say homemade, they mean it. The chef is wonderful and has been working at the inn for years. The pastry/desserts are made by the owner herself and are 100% homemade. We had our rehersal dinner here and my friends/family still talk about how amazing the food was a year later. The famous ribs are to die for and their sauce is beyond wonderful and delicious. The portions at my rehersal dinner were HUGE and everyone couldn't finish their dinner. We chose a wonderful swordfish and vegetarian lasanga as our other choices. Everyone loved what they had the portions were so huge everyone was able to share and enjoy each others food. They accomodated the children and served hamburgers and fries for the kids. The dessert was homemade apple pie with Ben & Jerry's vanilla bean ice cream. I was the happiest Bride-to-Be ever on that night. The food and rustic log cabin atmosphere was awesome. Our college drunken friends stayed there and it was super affordable for them. Amazing wonderful...so good....get the ribs and homemade desserts! LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
