Hands down the best meal I've had in forever! Service was warm and friendly, excellent beers on tap (including some local brews), lobster, prime rib, and bleu cheese dressing are noteworthy contenders for any palette with good taste and need for satisfaction. If you can get in (and get the table by the fireplace), I highly recommend u anchor!

I've always loved The Anchor. It's much busier these days than it used to be, and that's a testament to how good the food is. Beware! If you don't make a reservation during busy season you will wait at least an hour for a seat. Just so that's on your radar. Now the food - considering it's not terribly close to the coast the seafood here is spot on. My fiancé loves their clam chowder and the lobster dinner he had the other night looked faboosh. I'm more of a landlubber myself and their chicken and burgers are fantastic, not dry and cooked quite well. Their french fries are killer too - and I'm a serious fry addict. As far as drinks are concerned they have a decent selection of beers on tap and in bottles, standard fare for mixed drinks, and a small selection of wine. Nothing crazy, but just what you're looking for after a day on the slopes (or antiquing!)

This is a decent seafood restaurant in downtown Wilmington. We ate at the bar on a Friday evening - bartender was friendly, scallops were absolutely delicious, homemade salad dressings (they bring you three different ones to taste and choose from) were a nice touch. Prices were okay value-wise. I would avoid the apple curry rice - sounded good on paper but needed at least a tablespoon of salt for flavor.

Such friendly staff, the waitress came to check on us several times. I really enjoy the laid back environment, it's very "homey" .. The St. Louis baby back was delicious, I and the mashed potatoes and pumpkin squash with the Alaskan king crab was amazing!

Delicious food. Huge serving sizes (order of an entree comes with salad, bread, and a starch) but the service was super slow. Waited forever for each course and to pay the bill. However the staff was friendly and my water cup was never empty!

First of all, I want to comment on how nice and happy all the workers are. They are extremely welcoming and make you feel comfortable. Our server, (forgot his name), was very nice and constantly made sure that we were doing well with our food. We are from New York, so we were unsure of some local dish names - he took out the time to explain all the specials to us, lovely! I ordered the bacon-wrapped shrimp with horseradish sauce. It was so yummy! The flavor of the bacon and shrimp was wonderful but the horseradish was a little overwhelming for the small dish. For another appetizer, I ordered the clam chowder soup... so delish! There was a good amount of potatoes and clams, made me extremely happy. It wasn't too heavy but it was creamy! Every entree came with a salad... and for the dressing... they have 3 DIFFERENT FLAVORS. All homemade! They were all so interesting, must try all three! For the entree, I ordered the special, seafood bouillabaisse. It was a hugeeeee portion. After the two appetizers, the salad, and the bread, I was not able to finish my food. But of course, it was full of flavors. The dish came with clams, shrimps, mussels... all very fresh. Makes me love seafood even more... Thank you Anchor for giving us a great night in Vermont! I definitely hope I can try it again in the future!

My favorite place to go for a dirty martini. After refreshment there is always something enticing on the specials board. I hardly ever have to order form the menu but if I do my favorite would be the chicken and Brie salad. This is the restaurant that I always am comfortable recommending.

It's true - seafood in Wilmington. Great, fresh seafood at that. Creative selections on the menu along with an ever changing specials board. The staff is great, and always makes you feel like a local. TV's in the more casual bar area, and more formal dining down the hall. Open kitchen with nothing to hide. This spot has gone through some remarkable times, suffering not only a devastating fire but also enduring a flood shortly after their rebuild and grand re-opening. A lot of people would have had enough and pulled up stakes. They didn't. Tough Vermonters. Well worth a stop, just steps away from the intersection of 9 and 100. Parking in the back, or in the public lot 100 yards further down the road.

It's difficult to add something to the previous 53 Yelp reviews. Good food, reasonable in price and good service! I'm glad my husband and I ate there when in that area of Vermont.

Staying in Wilmington over the New Year weekend we decided to stop by for Dinner. My wife had crab legs and I had a Lobster, both where delicious and cooked to perfection. If you're in to seafood this place is for you.

All around superb food and charming VT setting. We had a great bottle of Malbec for $29 and then splurged on the surf and turf as well as the king crab legs (pre-sliced which made them all the better!) The homemade salad dressings were superb that came with the mains as were the garlic mashed potatoes. We can't wait to come back. Pictures and smiles speak for themselves! Good idea to make a reservation if coming during peak ski season!

nice staff, great food. very busy would suggest a reservation or to be put on the call ahead list as you may have to wait a while to be seated.

Extremely slow service -one woman waiter worked like crazy and young man not much. Tuna ordered rare came in raw and cold in center, broccoli was tasteless, sole Francaise was salty and not much other flavor. Fried clams were OK, but nothing special. Even the homemade blue cheese dressing tasted bland. Not recommended, wish it had been a lot better.

This is a 5-star restaurant and as good as it gets in the area - the only reason I'm giving it a 4 is because we called ahead and were assured that there wouldn't be an issue getting a table, yet we had to wait a half hour to be seated when we got in. Oh, and I overheard one of the waitresses saying she caught a bug - maybe you should stay home next time? The french onion soup is a must-try. The thick layer of cheese and the sizable slices of french baguette coexist perfectly - as they should - with the salty broth and caramelized onions. The garlic dinner rolls dipped into the savory soupy goodness take on a whole new level of deliciousness. The house salad comes with three dressing choices - and all are set on your table once your plate is served. Gorgonzola was my hands-down favorite, but the bleu cheese and cranberry something-something were great, as well. I thought I'd made a rookie mistake when I ordered a burger at a seafood/steak joint, but it turned out to be a great freaking burger - thick patty, bun that's crusty on the outside but soft and delicious on the inside, hefty slice of cheese, accompanied by a generous helping of delicious fries, and all for just ten bucks. The entrees are in the $20-30 range, but the quality and deliciousness of food extends beyond the price tag. This place is a must if you're in the area.

BEST MEAL I'VE HAD IN A WHILE. Had a reservation for 8:45 and went in at 7:45 and was seated within five minutes. The service was unbelievably great. The food was amazing. Our party had the onion strings (average), clam chowder (could tell it was home made), raw seared tuna (excellent), seafood sampler (so much flavor, so good, a little too buttery tho). The meal comes with salad, rolls, and a side. Honestly best meal I've had in so long. Would definitely recommend if you like seafood and are looking for a really good filling meal with an awesome atmosphere. GO HERE. YOU WONT REGRET IT. Wish I lived in VT so I could eat here more often.

I do believe that this place had the best seafood in the area. I ordered the king crab legs and the it was a decent size. You can really rate (shelled) seafood by taste, due to the freshness but it was boiled in water. Seafood taste a thousand times better steamed in beer . We also had streamers and bacon wrapped shrimp. The only complaint that i had wad the price of the shrimp. It was a bit pricy for three shrimp. The person that I with had the St. Louis ribs and they did fall of the bone. The food took a while to come out, so that's a good thing, it lets me know that it's not microwaved. Good food

In the Heart of the Village There are several restaurants in our town of 2,000 people, and this is the best of them. Food is reliably good. They always have a specials menu alongside the regular one. The social vibe is very pleasant, with a mix of locals, second home owners and tourists. Susan, the owner, is there most of the time and makes sure everyone is welcome and the place runs well. The servers are all nice, but one of them, Taryn, is a pistol. Whenever she tends bar, we make sure to have our dinner at the bar because the whole place becomes like a show, with laughter and cracking jokes. This restaurant is not only located in the heart of the village - it lives there.

Overall, very slow, good servers and food is ok but a bit overpriced. May go back during off peak hours but... - servers should not handle food (see below) - Vermont can be very cold. Right now, the wind chill is -35F. Warm the plates. The main dish we had seemed like they were prepared a while ago. - bigger kitchen or less items on the menu Having the opportunity to observe the restaurant for an hour and a half while I waited for my table during peak hours (got there at 6pm, I have to say that the kitchen is too small for the size of the restaurant. They should reduce the number of items on the menu unless they plan to expand their kitchen. Service is very slow, probably because they are asked to make finishing touches to dishes (i.e., sprinkling dried parsley and adding lemon - by the way, the servers touch a lot of things so they should not be handling food. I did not observe any of them washing hands or putting gloves before they put finishing touches). It took 20 minutes for the couple in front of us at a table at the bar area to get a cup of soup. 40 minutes after ordering dinner, they had not yet received their main dish. The servers seemed to be generally good, efficient, and friendly so I think it is a management issue. The estimate of us getting seated was 20-40 mins. Actual was an hour and a half. The inability to reasonably estimate waiting time is also a negative. Once I got to the table, we let the server know that we were in a rush so we were able to get out in about an hour after placing our orders. But we have noticed that the 2 tables around us who sat right after we did did not have their dinner served when we left. Food is ok but a bit overpriced.

While in Town with friends we were looking for a good place to eat. We spoke with a shop owner in an antique shop who recommended this place. He said he thought the food was very good and the prices were even better. Well we all agreed, the food was very good, and the prices were also very good! The fish and chips were very good, cooked to perfection and fresh and flakey.

Seafood, in Vermont?? Yes! They have a great selection of fresh seafood and damn, they do an amazing job cooking it! Steamers and mussels are always worth getting and not to be missed! The staff is amazing, top notch friendly people who make you feel like you're part of the family. Was so happy to grow up in this town and come here an uncountable number of times.

Unimpressed. Came up to visit some friends and needed a late lunch/early dinner. Wandered around the area checking out places but it turns out the majority of places close by 5 on Sundays. We finally stumbled upon this place (intrigued by the sign stating seafood) but walked in to find a totally empty restaurant except for a waitress behind the bar. After being ignored for a few moments, though she had looked up to see us standing there, she finally came around the bar and we were seated outside. Long story short, service was blah and we felt we were bothering them. Food (fried seafood platter, chowder and sirloin sandwich) were tolerable. However if they're "known" for their chowder then they must be known for it being a major disappointment. Wouldn't go back.

Still amazing. By far the best seafood restaurant in the valley, and definitely the best restaurant in Wilmington, VT. Every time I am in the area, I am sure to stop in for a meal. In the summer, they have two outdoor decks to eat on which are great. During lunch, their oyster po boy sandwich is the way to go! It's the best I have ever had. The sandwich is a fresh hero roll stuffed and overflowing with fresh fried oysters, the flavor is perfect. Plus, it is reasonably priced and comes with fries and cole slaw, both good as well. I have tried most of their dishes, and you really can't go wrong w/anything on their menu. This is a family-owned and run restaurant, which cannot be topped in the restaurant business when it comes to how they treat their customers. Simply said, they care. We have been there as a party of 2 up to a party of 10, and the level of food and service is always the consistently great.

This place was great. The service was on point, the salad we had gotten with our entrees came with a little turning salad dressing stand! Super fun to taste all three. The entree (Stuffed shrimp) was good, a little bland but still satisfying. Overall I would give this restaurant another visit next time we're in Wilmington!

Seafood sampler platter was perfectly cooked. It may be fried, but cooking it right still takes disciple and I super appreciated the quick and proper delivery. Kudos to the kitchen. Highly recommended.

Nice looking building. Need to order carefully. Food uneven but waitresses are great. Salad was wilted and hamburger burnt . But drinks were cheap and the place had good ambiance. So just be prepared.....that's all.

Super cute seafood restaurant right on Main Street. My mom and I were in town visiting and stopped here for dinner and we had an amazing lobster dinner. The potatoes were divine and everything had great flavor. The pumpkin pie was also good!

My boyfriend and I finally visited The Anchor last night, the Sunday of Labor Day weekend. We come up to the area from Boston once or twice a month and for whatever reason we had yet to eat here. After an afternoon at Mount Snow's beer festival we were ready for an early dinner around 6 pm and had no problem getting seats at the bar. It was just starting to get busy, but the bartender was acting like she was serving a crowd twice the size; she was so frantic and acting so busy but was totally inefficient. She kept making drinks or bringing food in and asking customers if they had ordered it, even if she had taken the original order. Any time someone asked for a drink she would give a long drawn out reply about whose drink she had to make next and what order everyone would be served in. Overall she was one of the most unprofessional bartenders I've ever seen. There were a couple young ladies who would float in and out of the bar to help her out and they were the only reason things kept moving. They all talked very loudly to each other, however, about how they were understaffed because the restaurant was catering a wedding that night. This also struck me as very unprofessional because they brought it up more than once and they just shouldn't have been bringing this kind of attention to themselves, especially when they weren't even speaking to customers. On the other hand, I was very pleased with all of the food. We ordered the crab cake and the fried shrimp for apps and both were delicious. I tend to be picky about seafood and I think the fried shrimp were the best I've ever had. We also had an appetizer-sized Caesar salad that was large enough to split. For mains, I had the fra diavolo-style mussels (an app) and my boyfriend had a cheeseburger. The mussels were average-sized and they must have given me at least three dozen. The bread wasn't crusty but the broth was perfect so I needed extra bread that they didn't charge for. The cheeseburger was standard but the fries were seriously good. Everything was very fairly priced and I would go so far to say a great value (my sangria was only $6.50 a glass!). One other thing I noted is that they were running out of things left and right. The Switchback keg was kicked when we got there; to run out of this in the middle of Labor Day weekend is a travesty. The mussels were also gone not long after I ordered. I doubt this will be our only visit to The Anchor but now I am nervous they will be out of everything. I really hope I can upgrade the rating next time.

The Anchor is perhaps the best restaurant in Wilmington and has been for years. It has all the pluses that one expects out of a top place: 1. Great hand on Owner, 2. Super friendly servers and support staff. 3. Fresh super seafood be it lobsters, flat fish, steamers, belly clams, all prepared how you'll love it. 4. Excellent landlubber dishes - on weekends try the Prime Rib. Huge piece of meat, super veggies, and popover. 5. Fresh salads with home made dressings. With all these things going for it, I guess thats why we dine there at least once or twice a week during summers.

The Anchor came through again for a nice dinner on busy MLK ski weekend. Wife and I have eaten at the Anchor on several previous trips. They don't take reservations for parties of 2 (they will for larger parties). We arrived early and the place filled up quickly. Chef special of seafood crepes was really good. Scallops also very good from regular menu. Friendly and attentive waitstaff. Casual dinning.

Landlocked Vermont has a solid seafood repository here. It's a cool local hangout serving good food at fair prices with an excellent bar and entertaining service. We're not locals, but we were welcomed as if long-lost friends by Larry, the "host" and server. We ate an early dinner and were virtually alone for an hour or so, which gave us an opportunity for a long chat with Larry, who's been working here for 17 years. He survived the fire that burned the place down almost two years ago, and saw it miraculously escape destruction when Hurricane Irene in 2011 sent waters crashing down over this lovely little town. Anyhow, come on by here for seafood. We're fond of the lobster rolls, and we're told thee are the best in VT (no argument from us, though we suspect the competition isn't intense). They're full of fresh meat in a buttered roll and yummy to the taste, served with crisp fries and cole slaw. Add a cup of very thick, clam-and-potto filled clam chowder and you have a dammed fine meal. The menu offers a pretty good variety of the usual seafood suspects, and we haven't herd any complaints. They have a modest selection of beers on draft, and they can whip up a mean Bloody Mary among other cocktail delights. We are winding up spending a lot of time here; come on by and join us for a cold one.

First time here. My wife and I had the fried clam app. and the prime rib; we shared. Never thought it would be that good. The clams were very fresh and done just right. The prime rib (med. rare) was melt in your mouth delicious. What a pleasant surprise. We sat at the bar and the bartender was sweet and friendly. Drinks were not over poured and drowning you with a heavy alcohol taste. This was better than most of the touted restaurants I have been to. I will go back tomorrow and try the fried calamari.

Anchor offers some decent seafood at fair prices, but nothing special. The steamers we ordered were rather small, slightly overcooked and way too sandy ($16 for 1.5 lb). Overpriced considering the quality of the shellfish and preparation. The fish stew had a nice rich flavor and was the best dish of the meal. Fish sandwiches were fine, but nothing over the top. We were there for lunch, and their lunch menu for fish is very narrow and leans to the fried fish side. The dinner menu is more varied and much more interesting. Also, although most reviews seem pleased by the service, our waitress appeared to have more important things on her mind even though there were few people in the restaurant. The food was OK. I'd keep to simple dishes and stay away from the steamers.

  • Gail H.

Another great dinner- start with the steamers- consistently excellent. Other favorites include fried oysters, baked scallops, chowder, stuffed sole. Self serve salad dressing and tartar/cocktail sauce are clearly made on premise- service and atmosphere add to the enjoyment

We have had dinner here twice now since moving to the area and we have not been disappointed. Coming from Long Island, we were skeptical about getting a good seafood dinner in Vermont. We are definitely fans and will be back from time to time, no doubt! Wait staff is friendly, atmosphere is great...no complaints!!!

Had a wonderful anniversary dinner here with my husband. Followed the recommendation of our innkeeper and they didn't disappoint. The Chicken Francaise is incredible moist flavorful, everything it should be and their Prime Rib is the best I've ever had, I don't eat steak often because I like it well done and that often means dry and over-cooked. This was done on the grill to perfect

We arrived at 2.30 pm on weekday so very quiet in December afternoon when there's no snow & skiing in area. The recently rebuilt restaurant has no local seafood competition so far from the sea! Fast and efficient service. We had starters - potato skins ok but nothing special, my wife claims to have had much better. The cLam chowder was a little bland but lumps of spud and clams made it wholesome, just needed little more seasoning. UFO beer, a light german sytle wheat beer, was on draft and a pleasant find. Wood chuck hard cider for my wife, no others offered. The haddock sandwich was very, very well fried to extent batter was very dark but still tasty. Good fries and coleslaw. A decent meal for 2 for 40 bucks. Would return again.

Our group of 14 called ahead and got a reservation for Saturday night which was impressive in itself. Place was pretty packed when we walked it but we were seated right away upstairs. People got a variety of dishes and they were all good. Combine that with 4 dollar beers and good service and I would definitely recommend next time your in the area.

I was recently visiting the Wilmington area with a group of friends and happened to stumble upon this restaurant while walking around the quaint little downtown area. First, let me say that there aren't very many places to go in Wilmington for a bite to eat, so we were drawn to Anchor due to their advertised stock of tasty lobster rolls and clam chowder. We sat in an outdoor area located upstairs, which was really lovely. We had a great view of the activities going on in the area. We ordered a round of blueberry martinis which were delicious before ordering our appetizers. Due to their claim to having great seafood, we ordered the stuffed clams to start. They were unfortunately very dry with way too much breading. It was almost like a bread pudding. I also ordered a cup of clam chowder, with was "ok," but not great. On to the main courses...I ordered a Vermont cheddar burger that came out way way way over cooked and dry. My friends described their lobster rolls as "pretty good," but not the best. I am giving three stars because the servers are super friendly and the ambiance is really relaxing with a homelike feel.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Anchor. When we go to VT it is one of my favorite places to go. On Friday and Saturdays they have the Prime Rib. It is so yummy!!! BUT it's so big you'll be bringing home a doggie bag. The first thing they bring you is a house salad with a choice of 3 dressings.....I don't even know what the other 2 taste like because the first time I had the blue cheese I never tried anything else! It is the best blue cheese dressing I have ever had. Then comes the huge piece of prime rib with a popover and a veggie. If they have it, get the butternut squash. It's great. I have never had dessert there as I have always been way to full. On and the rolls they bring before dinner are really good too. I think everything I have had there is wonderful and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. If you are in Wilmington, you have to go here.

The Anchor is open and totally rebuilt, post fire. It's a must visit when we're in the area. Great bar for chilling. When you dine, make sure Larry is your server. He is such a pro and just a fine, kind human being.

Freshest seafood around. Been here many, many times over the past 7 years and never left unsatisfied. Wonderful, welcoming staff with a cozy, clean, warm atmosphere. So sad they had a fire and flood over the past years but so happy they keep on going because they just get better and better! Beautifully decorated, they also have a fire place that you can sit next to. Great for the family or a romantic date for two. LOVE IT

This is a great local hangout. We were sad when it burned, because it has always been our go-to place for lunch when we're in Vermont, so we're glad it's back! During our four-day vacation in January, we visited the Anchor twice for lunch and once more for drinks. We never ventured past the bar, but the dining room looked decent enough. The atmosphere is nothing special (it's a bar) but the service is prompt and friendly, the food is deeelicious, and prices are reasonable.

The food was acceptable, service quite fine, and it had a very quaint atmosphere. We came on a Sunday night during the peak of the Ski Season. Admittedly, a Sunday at 8pm is a slower time. There were only 2 other couples in the restaurant and their food arrived as we were sitting down. The server gave us the "best table in the house" next to the fireplace. This is really a one man operation. The dining room seats less than 20, maybe 15 tops, and on this night there was one server. They make you feel at home, you are never rushed. I believe there is one chef in the kitchen as well, so food does not come out lightning fast, but VT is all about relaxing and taking time so I think this has something to do with it. If you are starving I'd say go somewhere else. If you want a tasty meal from a restaurant with a pretty extensive menu then come here. If you are just looking for something to complain about then please don't come here. The people are very nice and they work hard and they don't need city folk telling them how things should be, this is how things are. Love it or leave it. Full 1 1/4lb lobster dinner with salad, veg, starch $25.99. The waiter even cracked it for me at the table. Cooked perfectly. Fresh hot roll as well. Grilled Salmon with salad, veg, starch $19.95. Perfectly prepared. Total for 2 dinners plus 1 beer was around $60 incl tax&tip I recommend this place if you are looking for a relaxing dining experience. Low-key all the way.

Great food. Ate here last week; Had the stuffed clam appetizer which was fantastic and had the crab cake entree. The servings here are really big, so prepare yourself. I couldnt eat all of the food they served. Nice ambiance inside, we even saw a rottweiller walking through the restaurant which reinforces the casual vibe.

Accommodating for dietary restrictions although kitchen made a mistake but server immediately corrected. Food was pretty good - crab cakes and scallops. Steamers were highly gritty! Cape Codders (drinks) - still searching for decent Grey Goose pour. We were having a good time until closing when we saw THE DOG roam into the kitchen! Blech, shock and horror.

Fantastic. Just had clams and steamers. And fish and a lobster. We are from the south and really excited about seafood. Having grown up in Boston this place fits the bill. Such amazing and sweet staff and the food was so good. All fresh plump and delicious seafood and the setting is very Cape Cod...

Unpretentious and loud (accoustics reflect every sound) the Food at the Anchor Seafood Restaurant is worth the drive to Wilmington, Vermont. Though their "signature" Clam Chowder should probably remain unsigned, being bland to the point of being tasteless, it DID have large chunks of Potato, and tender clams. It was NOT thick enough to pass the "spoon test" (A spoon will stand straight up, unsupported), it was of a nice consistancy, and had it had a flavor, it does warm one's innards. The Escargot were wonderful. The pungent garlic/butter sauce just begged to be sopped up with the provided Baguettes, and if one asks, additional rolls will be provided so that one can enjoy the wonderful sauce that accompanies the flavorful and tender escargot served out of their shell. The Mussels likewise came in an extremely delicious butter/wine sauce which provided a LOT of enjoyment soaked up with some of the freshly baked rolls we made a point to ask for. Our main courses were wonderful. The Seafood Sampler was abundant with Fried Clams, Haddock, and Scallops served over crisp French Fries. The Fried Belly Clams were tasty and accompanied by delicious Linguini. A feast far too plentiful to finish in one sitting. In between courses, the fresh garden salad came with a selection of home made dressings and provided a nice intermezzo between the appetizers and the main dishes. We WILL be returning to this wonderful restaurant and though we will never order the Clam Chowder again, we will bring guests and feast on the marvelously prepared fresh seafood served by the smiling and attentive.wait staff.

The Anchor is a good New England style seafood restaurant in the heart of Wilmington. It is located in an old home and the interior is modeled to make it feel like you're at Cape Cod, when really you're in the mountains of Vermont. I ate lunch here and have to say that the service was very slow. It took forever for our lunch to be served. We were talking to a nearby table about the slow service. We were the only two groups in the restaurant I believe. At least the two waitresses were nice. Aside from that, the food was defiantly worth it. I had a salmon salad that was featured on the daily specials and it was great. I love salmon, so this really hit the spot. There were also various veggies in the salad and it all just worked. The flavors were perfect with each other. The dressing was great, although I could never figure out what it was. One big disappointment I had was they didn't have lobster rolls. They had lobster shipped in from the coast and they had clam and scallop rolls, but no lobster rolls, which I was craving. Oh well, not worth a star deduction. Overall, if you are looking for a seafood fix in the mountains of Southern Vermont, stop in at the Anchor.
