Beaver Pond Farm

First to review! This comfy home is close to Sugarbush and the golf course. The entry way is welcoming and has the owners quarters to the right with a happy Hanna pup to great visitors. To the left is a mud room with a bench to take off boots and various informative brochures for the area. The kitchen is behind and seen through a window along the bench wall. The kitchen was wide and bright with a picture window over looking the land view behind the Inn. Just to the left of the bench starts the entry way to the next room and the heart of guest gatherings, the dining room. Wide pine floors, post and beam. Beautiful country style dining room table with a bright window on the rear wall. Way better than a hotel that is for sure! Continue past the dining room and enter the next room, the living room. Roaring fires, parcheesi, the game of life, reading magazines about vt real estate, the New Yorker, and just lounging in a vt country setting. That's how I spent my NYE 2014 with my wife and baby to be in the living room. This living room with it's wide pine floors, Christmas tree with lights and hydrangeas from Kim's garden, rocking chair and oversized brick rustic fireplace, oriental carpets...half way into this room on the right wall is an entry way back to the rear of the dining room. Just before the dining room is a small bar area and coffe station. VT craft beers and VT coffee and teas! Also the storage area for games and a CD player, a small bar sink as well. The breakfast each day were amazing! The homemade granola was out of this world, the scones, waffles, sausages, baked pear were out of this world. Again, way better than a hotel could ever do. The bedroom we stayed in was Babcock. It had a queen sized bed with lots of pillows and a nice semi firm mattress. We also had a small TV and a private bathroom with shower and tub. Always a nice touch! It had wide pine floors too. Outside of the house is a large deck and hot tub. We didn't try it but I think a guest did on the first night we were there. I think you should book a night or two at this Inn and enjoy all of what VT and the Mad River Valley has to offer. We had a great holiday vacation.

Buffalo Bill’s Retreat

From the moment we walked in and saw the giant moosehead above the front door, we knew this place was going to be awesome. We piled a dozen people in for a skiing bachelor party, and we really couldn't have found a better place in the area to stay. It's super close to Sugarbush (walkable if you need too) but is remote enough that you can be as raucous as.. a bachelor party. A few pro tips: * Hit Bill up for discount lift tickets * As much as you think the horses want a beer, they don't and * They are horses, not mooses. * Shuffleboard is more fun than you might think * There is a convenient bathroom located next to the refrigerator. * Local Vermont maple syrup goes well with pizza * The porch is not strong enough for a dogpile * JUSTICE * (from Bill) Moosehead is not a beer, it is a misdemeanor That all said, you can have a great time here without wrecking the place. Buffalo Bill himself is a cool dude so you wouldn't want to wreck it anyway.

The Pitcher Inn

Reviews:
Amazing Inn. The inn exceeded our expectations in every way. We were looking for a nice place to stay on our road trip through Vermont and the Pitcher Inn was perfect. The room was comfortable and well decorated. The casual restaurant, Tracks, was very good and had a pool table and shuffleboard for after dinner. The service was top notch and we definitely will pay another visit to the hotel when we return to Vermont.
Came here for a romantic birthday dinner and was really amazed. The atmosphere was amazing, and the service was perfect. The matrede was supper pleasant (Thx Ari) and helpful, and our waiter knew exactly when to ask for our order or let is enjoy moment. The portions were perfect size, as we did not have to roll out of our chairs, and very tasty. Looking forward to coming back next time I'm in the area. Thx!!!
I can't say anything for the Pitcher Inn and its hotel accommodations, but I can speak for the fabulous underground mini-restaurant titled "Tracks". The first thing that struck me as a I walked in were the beautiful photos of mountainous animals, with their paw prints and names. Mellow music was played, and there were more couch and lounge areas then tables. Board games were available, and a grand fireplace was burning. The best part, in my opinion was the game room. Complete with a gorgeous pool table, a shuffleboard and antique billiard balls and q-sticks, the game room was hit! The only thing I didn't like about Tracks was that the food took a very long time. It was fine for us however, because we were in the above mentioned game room, and I could understand, the place was crowded. The food was amazing. I recommend the burger with bacon. Hope to return there soon!

West Hill House B&B

Reviews:
My partner surprised me with a last minute trip to Vermont (I leave the car for 5 minutes and this is what happens), and we ended up staying at the West Hill House for an evening. The property itself is beautiful, as is the B&B itself. Very homely and comfortable, there were books all over the place and plenty of movies and games to relax with as well. The property has two beautiful cats that I'm sure ran the place as cute kitties so often do. :) We stayed in the Stetson Suite, which was just perfect for what we were looking for. It had a queen bed, steam shower, jacuzzi tub and a little sitting room so I could read in the morning without waking my partner. We only wish the barn apartment was not being renovated, otherwise we would have loved to stay there with the view of the gardens and the small pond/lake. Peter and Susan were fantastic and very kind. And Susan cooks a delightful breakfast. Overall a lovely choice for our surprise trip north. Thanks P&S for the lovely evening/morning.
My husband and I just returned from a wonderful four night stay at West Hill House B&B. We spent three days at Sugarbush snowboarding, and were very pleased with how conveniently located the house was to the mountain. To make it even better, there was a shuttle that picked us up at the house and took us right to the base of the mountain. We stayed in the Wildflower room which was very lovely, clean and comfortable. We had a large jacuzzi tub, which was a huge bonus after a long day on the slopes! The common areas of the house were relaxing and homey. To top it all off, the food was delicious and the innkeepers were grand! Looking forward to returning!
Excellent Inn, especially for the value! Having stayed in a pricier B&B in the same area near Sugarbush, I was delighted to find an Inn that was less expensive but did not sacrifice on hospitality and extras. The rooms are delightful and the hosts, Peter and Susan, go out of their way to provide a comfortable and relaxing experience for their guests. If you need advice for taking day trips, they are more than happy to help out, but at the same time they give you space to enjoy the Inn as you please. Highly recommend!

The Common Man Restaurant

Reviews:
Vermont is not known for fine dining, but this place came highly recommended. The food is what you would expect in a place like this- nothing particularly unique, but it was fresh and well executed. The service was another matter- ABYSMAL! Hey, I get it, it's VT, everything's chill, dude... This however went beyond even the typical VT level of service- Water glasses not kept filled, entrees took forever, and then came out at different times! Server disappeared, then apologized, "Sorry, I got to talking with some LOCAL customers, you know how it is" No, I don't know "how it is", I have a house an hour from here, but I'd rather stay down in NYC, happily spend 4 times what I spent here, and at least get what I'm paying for. Like I said, the food was okay, get rid of whatever dipshit is running the front of the house and the stoner servers, and this place wouldn't be bad.
The Common Man has new owners since I started dining here oh so long ago, and I think it has improved quite a bit. From being a rather common place (no pun intended) to what is now rather inventive modern cuisine, this place is now a favorite of mine. I'm really late on this review (sorry!) but we all had great appetizers and entrees. The charcuterie board was great, and most of us had various salads, I had one with beets, very good. For my entree, I had the rib-eye steak, it was done perfectly, and the accompaniments were also. For dessert, I had the famous Schneeball, which is about the only item left from the original menu. It's basically an oversized ball of vanilla ice cream rolled in coconut flakes, with hot fudge sauce drizzled around it. very old-fashioned, but still great. Greeat and friendly service to top it all off.
I've experienced better - and it was here, under the old ownership. I really, really, wanted to like it. The ambiance is nothing short of spectacular. And the food used to be the best in the valley -right-on french bistro style. It was like Hammersley's in Boston but with less pretense (ok, almost the same amount of pretense) and a smaller bill. But that's since changed. Gone is the fillet mignon, replaced with a skirt steak for what seems to be the same price. No more rabbit or cassoulet. Farewell, too, to the local beers (I'll miss you most of all, Lawson's Finest!). And the Schneeball, that kitschy concoction of vanilla ice cream, toasted coconut and hot fudge? Gone. Replaced with a differently named Schneeball. Why rename it? I guess because you can. Instead, we get the cheese plate with Keebler-esque crackers, sharp Cabot Vermont cheddar and vt summer sausage. Thanks, but I can get it much cheaper at Paradise Deli down the street. Sure, the entrees are still good - and can be very good - but for the price, I used to get better... and it was here.

Cool spot. Live bands. Two food options...cheeseburger, or grilled cheese. Burger was outstanding. It seems like one guy does everything, cook, bartend, innkeeper. He does a good job keeping it simple. Well executed. Clean and pleasant.

Timber’s Restaurant

1840 Sugarbush Access Rd
Warren, 05674
Reviews:
Located in the Sugarbush resort, the Timber's restaurant has a really nice cozy feel and a great view of the mountain. The food, on the other hand, left us feeling empty. It was tapas/salsa dancing night so we decided on the gazpacho (which was spelled incorrectly on the menu), stuffed cannelloni, some beef on arugula, and another dish that I can't remember. The only thing that was good on the menu was the coffee flan we had for dessert although it really didn't taste like coffee. The chocolate truffles that accompanied the flan were fabulous but I'm not sure if these were made by the establishment or bought. As for the service, Kenneth was our server and the beginning of our dinner was rather slow. He started to pick up the pace after the food had arrived. I do like that he was attentive in pouring our wine for us when our glasses ran low. I don't think that I would come back to Timber's for the food since it was just so so and the prices were a little steep ($9 for each tapas plate) but it might be nice for have some wine and take in the scenery.
This is an odd space as it seems like they are trying to pack a bar, bistro, and fine dining establishment into one restaurant. My husband and I were there a couple of days ago and I have to say that we were slightly disappointed as we were looking for a fine dining experience. To start with, our cocktails were a little off and my husband noted that they did not have one of the ingredients for the drink but did not mention that. The service was a little awkward and sloppy and although the food was not bad, it didn't blow us away. All in all I would probably want to try other restaurants in the area before going back to Timbers especially considering the prices (which as noted before are ski resort prices).
We come here often because it's the only restaurant on the mountain where you can get an OK glass of wine. I love that they try and use local foods when ever possible. I can usually count on getting good salads or burgers. Otherwise, the food is inconsistent. It can be very good or disappointing. The service is almost always very slow. We came on Saturday and I had a skimpy Caesar salad with plenty of bland chicken but very little lettuce and almost no parmesan cheese. My husband was happy with his burger, cooked perfectly with hot fries. My adult son order pulled pork sliders. They were a big disappointment. They were miniscule (I know a slider is mini), all bread with about a tablespoon of pork. When having lunch while skiing, our goal is to be in & out in about 45 minutes. We were in & out in just under an hour. That's fast for Timbers. I would have rated it a 2 but I have had some really good meals here.

I have never in my life been more upset with an establishment. We were first told it would be 15-20 minutes to be seated- it took closer to 30 minutes. After we ordered, 20 minutes later the server came back and told us that they were out of Pizza? How?! Half their menu consists of pizza! So fine, we will get over this and order something different. After this, another 15 minutes or so go by and the waiter comes back letting us know that they only have enough ingredients for ONE philly cheese even though two of them were ordered. At this point I was done. I paid for my drink and was offered a "complimentary" one and refused it as I just wanted to get out of there. What is even worse is that we didn't even get to see a manager or get offered a partial discount. That is a clear sign of incredibly poor customer service. The owner needs to do some cleaning up-with his staff.
I really try to stay positive with reviews, but there's little here worth eating. Wait staff is friendly, but service is painfully slow and you'd think for a mountainside pub would be the perfect place après ski to drink and chow down, but skip PTP and order a pizza next door at Pizza Soul instead. And while that's baking, have a few drinks and shoot some pool at PTP which is what this place excels at doing.
Setting: Atmosphere and decor is cool if you like a divey, old school style apres ski bar (which I do). Some cool couches to lounge in if you get them, pool table and some bar games, a few tvs, etc. Food: Went here for the second time on Saturday evening around 6. Finally tried some of the food: fried pickle chips and some buffalo wings. The fried pickles were average. The buffalo wings were big, but otherwise unimpressive. Service: It's hard for this not to come across as a rant, but it probably will. To put it frankly, the main bartender here goes out of his way to be a jerk to you if you're not "a local". A friend asked what beers were on tap (we were out of view of the taps) and the bartender said "I don't know - a lot - go look". A request for menus resulted in some being gruffly thrown at us. A "Can I have another PBR when you get a chance?" received "it's busy I can't be getting beers for everyone". (Note: there were a total of maybe 30-40 patrons in the entire bar). It's too bad because we're staying a stone's throw from this place every weekend this winter, but will be looking elsewhere for our go-to watering hole.
