I'm a Stowe regular and I can't believe it took me this long to find the best restaurant in town. Ambiance is cozy and charming. Food hits the perfect pitch from start to finish. And who makes all of their own desserts anymore? Makes a huge difference. Tony is a gifted restauranteur. His Italian background and passion really come alive in every aspect of the experience. Enjoy! Can't wait to go back.

By far, best restaurant in Stowe (I've been coming to Stowe since 1997, and always go to the Trattoria). My family has been to all of the restaurants in the area, which come and go- Trattoria has withstood the test of time in a very competitive market. My favorite dish is the duck. I'm an expert. I eat duck at every restaurant that I go to that offers it. Tony's duck is the best I've had. Patty's martinis are divine. The tiramisu is to die for. Bon Appetite!

Excellent service, nice atmosphere. Food was delicious!! The ravioli with wild mushrooms was fresh and flavorful and the bruschetta was perfect.

Love this restaurant, great food, great friendly service and a general feel good atmosphere. I had the eggplant and it was cooked perfectly. My mother had dessert, and she is a dessert perfectionist, and was blown away it was so good.

4 yrs in Vermont & you get those long, lonesome yearnings for something a little bit different than Meat & a Beer or a little article of overly dressed, "High Fashion Food". Good for those Out of Staters who don't know we have a mud season or need to let the world know they know everything about fine dining & want to share it with the world. This place has Vermont Character & some pretty darn good Italian food, by VT standards. Yes Vermont Standards. We need those!

For a resort town, this is a decent restaurant. The prices were slight higher than we'd expected but the food was very good. We had chicken parm, sausage pasta and two kids' meals - pasta and pizza. Caesar salads came with the meals and they were great. We had a chocolate dessert special and panna cotta - both excellent. The atmosphere is ski town meets d school Italian - it's cute! I would go again!

Wow. What a wonderful dinner after a full day of skiing. Several of the locals strongly recommended this restaurant and boy am I glad I came here The restaurant was packed which is always a good sign. I called ahead to get a reservation which is an absolute must especially on a weekday. I had the veal parm which is one of the best that I've ever had. They use Panko crumbs which helps the texture significantly. It was wonderfully paired with haricots verts in a oil and garlic sauce. The staff is attentive and friendly and the vibe is casual - I noticed many locals who come here regularly. It's so good, I may actually come back tomorrow night :-).

Since we rarely eat pasta, we were really stoked to hear that there was an authentic Italian restaurant in Stowe. We started with a caprese salad as an appetizer. The pesto that came with it was very good. My wife ordered the meatballs with penne. While the penne was cooked very nicely, she questioned the homemade-ness of both the sauce and the meatballs. I had the carbonara which was very good. Would definitely order it again. We heard the dessert was good but skipped it as the carbs filled us up. Very friendly staff and fast service but not rushed.

Great authentic Italian food. Very nicely prepared and good portions also! Caesar salad is very nice. You won't be disappointed...and actually we were delighted!

Favorite restaurant here in Stowe. Been coming here for over 15 years and never had a disappointing meal. Excellent Caesar salad that comes free with you're entree. Pomodoro sauce is delicious. Service is quick, friendly, and clean. The first place I recommend to newcomers to Stowe.

Good Italian food in the Stowe area. Free salad and bread will make you more hungry... salmon was great...!

We had a great experience here. Staff was SO nice, friendly and efficient. Food was great too, a tad pricey, but it is good. The bread and homemade butter was awesome. Even the side Caesar salad was delicious. I had beef carpaccio-which I had never tried before--but it was a little too rare for me. But that's not the restaurant's fault because its supposed to be served that way. The ambience was very nice as well; this would make a good date place. Would definitely stop by again sometime.

Really cozy atmosphere, amazing service. Must save room for dessert -- the ice cream pie was out of this world.

This place is good, and I live in NJ, where Italian restaurants run amok. The decor and feel is old school, but it's part of the charm... a welcome change from the swanky pretentious wanna be's, which can be somewhat typical of Stowe... The staff is friendly, the service and food are good. Try their puttanesca...

Came without a reservation during the holiday season but they were kind enough to squeeze us in and I'm super happy they did! We started off with the salmon carpaccio which had great flavor but was only 4 small slices of salmon =( Luckily our entrees came quickly so I didn't sit around starving for too long. I had the super carbonara with whole wheat pasta. The carbonara was great but I regreted ordering the whole wheat pasta bc I forget how it tastes too hard to me. If I had ordered regular - the dish would have been perfect. My bf had meatballs & spaghetti, which he also enjoyed. Cute restaurant with good food - I would def come back here next time I'm in Stowe.

I ALWAYS have a great meal here. Some reviewers have said it was out of date or no "creative" enough. Well, that's the point. It's traditional Italian food and dining. This place is a classic. I love the feel of being in an old fashioned Italian eatery. Makes me feel like I'm in New York City. The food is good, the prices are a tad high, but that's Stowe. Trattoria La Festa comes highly recommended for classic/traditional Italian dining. If you want something "modern" go to some phony California style place with stainless steel walls and glass tables. Then you can pay $19 for one of those gross spring greens salads!

If you feel like revisiting Italian dining in 1975 this place is for you! From the plastic veg on the walls and the naugahyde tablecloths, yup, it's something you will instantly recognize. Food is acceptable. They did modernize and add a blood orange salad with fennel which was a bit soggy but flavorful. Of course, entrees "come with" a ceasar salad. That too was a bit soggy, but had flavor. My chicken parmigiana was about as basic as you can get.. Well fried, glop of cheese on top, pasta respectably cooked. Worth $19? Only in a resort town. So, don your leisure suit, pull out your polyester separate and this place will suit you just fine.

We were disappointed in the marinara sauce with the traditional spaghetti and meatballs. The veal was tough with our other order. Did not like the chili pepper lights on the walls, isn't that Mexican versus Italian ?

We go here once a week, sit at the bar, and have the wonderful company of Patti and Tony as well as a great meal. We usually order the Bosca salad, a favorite of ours; the Catch of the Day is always delicious; the roasted duck is also a huge favorite; and the truffle fries are exceptional. The soups are always delicious - order by all means. The piece de resistance for us is always Patti's homemade desserts. Patti is a very gifted artisan who creates the most spectacular confections you can imagine. Pass up the tartufo and bask in the glory of whatever dessert Patti has just made - you will not be sorry.

A night a Tony's is like coming home to friends, family and comfort food! He greets you at the door with a big smile, open arms and a glass of wine. Our favorite is Friday night when it is bustling with locals and visitors from all over the world. It is a truly a "seen and be seen" place. And, Tony--chef owner--takes tremendous pride in his farm to table fresh cuisine. Try the beef Carpaccio with onions and capers, the Vermont fresh greens with goat cheese and tangerines and the lamb chops or veal--cooked to perfection. And be sure ask Patty what she whipped up for dessert--her specialty. This is a MUST VISIT place when in Stowe. Done!

My husband and I decided to give this place a go based on other yelp reviews and limited dining choices in Stowe off-season. We arrived at about 6:30 on a fairly busy Saturday night and were told we could not be seated without a reservation. There were 2 open seats at the bar so we opted to eat there. Host turned several other small parties away as they "were full", but there were at least 2 open tables that were never seated during the approx 2 hours we were there. Patty, the owner/bartender was super nice and attentive. Menu is pretty standard, nothing exciting. Food was ok. Proscuitto was cut too think and seemed like it had freezer burn and salad that came with meal had really goopy salad dressing. It was caesar-like but it was if it was not mixed well. All in all, it was fine. I may give it another try because service was really pleasant and the atmosphere was cozy and comfortable.

This is my favorite restaurant in the Stowe area and the one I eat at on the night before I leave. The food is always properly prepared and served at the right time after it has been cooked. The pasta is served al dente. The service is exemplary. And the tartufo is fabulous. Make a reservation because this place is hopping.

My husband and I enjoyed a nice dinner here tonight. Though the portions were on the smaller side, the food itself was quite good. My husband had the risotto special with chicken, fennel, and tomato in a white wine sauce. It had a nice, rich flavor, though he was disappointed there wasn't more on his plate. I had the portofino, which boasted a fresh, delicious pesto, pine nuts, sun-dried tomatoes, and chicken with fettucine cooked perfectly al dente. Service was friendly, attentive, and quick - the timing between the courses was evenly spaced so as not to feel rushed or slow. One thing that struck us is that the menu online seemed to be a lot better than the menu we were presented with at the restaurant. The restaurant menu seemed plainer and more basic than some of the dishes we saw online. Also, the tables are placed rather close together, the backs of our chairs mere inches away from the neighboring tables. Otherwise, the atmosphere was warm, the lowered lights lending a somewhat intimate ambiance. Despite some of its shortcomings, we did enjoy our meal and would consider going back.

30 of us went there for dinner. We are holding a team building offsite at SML. The restaurant at the lodge, Solstice, is so bad that we decided to try something else at the resort. It was completely out of line unacceptable. Pasta was overlooked, chicken and pork were so hard, dry and not eatable. Our night after hard work was totally ruined. S sad...

Excellent special anniversary dinner out with my husband! The staff was very friendly and we enjoyed the atmosphere. The food was great! Service was outstanding! They accommodated my request for the meal I wanted without hesitation. The drinks were great and I would highly recommend it!

My husband and I came here last weekend and had a very pleasant and comfortable experience. As vegetarians, the dining experience was great--the portions were well-sized, veggies were fresh-tasting, and the prices were reasonable. (The day before we paid the same amount for a salad/sushi lunch at Hana as we did for 2 courses for dinner here.) I had the mushroom risotto which had some black truffle oil in it--absolutely delicious! The decor was cheesy, but it was fine compared to the other meathead bars/pubs/taverns scattered around Stowe.

GROSS! We ordered the following for only $80: I had Chicken Parm with pasta: bad move, this resulted in a double dose of the worst pasta sauce I have ever tasted. Tasted like a can of off brand diced tomatoes that was reduced for 3 minutes without seasoning. The wife had Sirloin with Balsamic Glaze: This steak survived a serious grease fire but was still served. This was served with marginal fast food quality potatoes and green beans without flavor. The kids had pizza: Apparently it is difficult to cook the crust on pizza. As my oldest stated - "I can not eat this raw smooshy dough". We also had a 1/2 carafe of wine for $10. This was actually reasonable and a good value. This place should be renamed Trattoria Suca Festa. Save your money and eat at home.

  • A Local's Review For U.

Typical of many Stowe restaurants, this Italian eatery has relatively mundane food at rather high prices. For a eatery that specialized in pasta, I was surprised to find no fresh pastas here nor any creative sauces. You can choose from a variety of pasta shapes (spaghetti, ziti, etc) and a variety of sauces (Scampi, Carbonara, etc.) with the usual 'Americanizations' of added chicken, scallops, etc. I noticed that many of the dishes listed on their website menu were not available when I dined there. All in all, not a bad choice for dining in Stowe if your tastes run to the mainstream. Prices are high for this type of food, but not too bad compared to many other Stowe restaurants.

Warm bread comes before you even order. My friend and I both got specials, and they were both delicious. The wine was good too. Prices were reasonable given the type of restaurant. I wish I was from the area, because I would definitely eat here often.

We recently had dinner at this restaurant while vacationing in northern Vermont. Coming in out of a cold, rainy night, the warmth and aromas were very welcomed. We had reservations and were immediately seated. Our server was very efficient in getting our beverage orders (they have a limited but excellent wine list) and bring out bread and explaining the various specials. My wife and son both had chicken parmesan while I ordered the tortellini, which was a bit too al dente for my taste; the sauce was the popular pink sauce with vodka--no peas or walnuts which are traditional with tortellini. Both my wife and son appeared satisfied with their chicken dishes. We were impressed that, as we were leaving, the owner stopped a conversation to thank us for dining at his restaurant. We did not experience this type of hospitality often enough on our travels through New England. One major criticism of this establishment is the deplorable parking lot. As I mentioned above, it was a wet evening and the parking lot was pure mud; in addition, there is zero lighting and if I were alone, I would feel uneasy in trying to find a parking place (no stripes, every driver for him/self) and walking behind the restaurant to the entry door..

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
