I am writing a review for both breakfast at Gables and Heinz fondue. The breakfast here is the best in town hands down. I always love staying here at the inn and having a delicious Vermont breakfast in the morning. The Vermont breakfast is my favorite but I try to rotate through the options because they are all delicious. Heinz fondue for dinner was an amazing treat. I had never had fondue before and this dinner makes me want to come back for more. The cheese fondue was great and comes from Switzerland. I had the beef and shrimp for dinner and it was so good. The chocolate fondue for dessert is not to be missed. Such a different dining experience if you have never done it before and a lot of fun! I believe it is by reservation only but definitely worth the call. Overall a great dining experience and a great meal!

I've been to this place for breakfast in the past and thought I'd stop in here for a quick breakfast but it was anything but quick. They were a bit busy at 10am and we stood on the porch and waited to be seated but after a few minutes, no one sat us, so we sat ourselves. The two waitresses working were not happy that we sat ourselves and proceeded to talk about our table--in front of us. One waitress even said, "they'll just have to wait" and wait we did. 20 minutes for our order to be taken, another 40 minutes for our food to arrive, 15 minutes to cash out. [we almost considered leaving but were too hungry to move] The only redeeming factor is that this place, like always, turns out delicious breakfast [4 stars for food, 1 star for service]. It's unfortunate that the service stinks here. This wasn't our 'hotel' but for those that stay over night here, your breakfast is included in your room rate.

Always a delicious breakfast, everything cooked to perfection. Quality plus! Very friendly staff....return every year, 2 to 3 times during our week stay in Stowe.

I am actually writing a review for Swiss Fondue by Heinz. Heinz and his wife serve authentic Swiss fondue at the Gables Inn in the evenings. I was there with two of my girlfriends and we had the place to ourselves. Heinz greeted us enthusiastically and is clearly passionate and knowledgeable about his Swiss cuisine. He and his wife were very attentive and kind to us and the food was amazing. We got the cheese fondue with side salads. The salad dressing was a Swiss dressing with a yogurt base. For dessert, we had the chocolate fondue served with cubes of poundcake, marshmallows, and slices of banana, and strawberries. The beer and wine list was unique. I enjoyed the dry Riesling I ordered. As for the cost, fondue is never cheap but always worth it. We had a wonderful meal and it was served to us by a lovely couple. I hope that their dining room fills up.

I recently took a 'beercation' to VT where I checked out several different breweries and drank my fair share of great tasting local beer. I chose to stay at the Gables as it was reasonably priced and was in a great location for where I wanted to be. I shall start by saying that the Gables will make you feel like you are home. On more than one occasion, I chatted with the owner Randy and his mother Susan who were extremely friendly and accommodating. I booked a master bedroom but was upgraded to a suite for no extra charge! The room was spacious with it's own bathroom, bathtub, couch, tv, and nice sized bed. Breakfast every morning was truly a treat. The omelettes are massive, bacon, and sausage are delicious and everything is so fresh tasting. I was so sad when I had to leave the Gables as it was such a stellar experience. I will definitely come back to VT again one day and I don't need to think twice about where I'll be staying.

We slept at the Gables Inn last weekend to attend the Hot Air Balloon Festival, which was a short walk away. The overall experience was good but the breakfast service in the morning was extremely slow. When we arrived Saturday afternoon, we were greeted by the owner's mother and some other guests who were sitting in the living room. (There are no TVs in the bedrooms, but they did have good Wifi.) There were a couple of small dogs running around, including a very cute newborn puppy that urinated on the living room rug (which was quickly cleaned up, but still...) Our bedroom had a lot of old-charm character, and it was very clean with a good air conditioner and clean bathroom. The only real complaint I would have was the breakfast service in the morning. It was probably the busiest weekend of the summer because of the Hot Air Balloon Festival and there were only two servers. We had a half-hour wait, and then waited another 40 minutes for the food. The food was free because we stayed at the inn, and it was delicious. The employees were also very friendly.

Great place for a reasonably priced, simple breakfast. Blueberry pancakes were great!

Exactly what you would want from a Vermont B & B. Randy, the owner, runs a great place. Our room was big and spacious with a great fireplace, and he got us a room that allowed our dogs. Soup in the afternoons and they lent my wife a blow dryer. It is centrally located in Stowe, but you feel like you are out on your own. If we ever go back to Stowe, we will definitely stay here again. They run a breakfast restaurant out of the B & B and the food there was excellent.

Upon making reservations at Gables Inn in anticipation of attending an old friends birthday celebration, it occurred to me that I recklessly neglected to check their cancellation policy. I called the inn directly and was treated with the upmost of courtesy by Randy, Gables Inn's congenial owner/all-round-good-guy. When I explained why I needed to know as there was a very real possibility of my having to cancel, he could not of been nicer or more understanding. For this alone, Gables Inn gets my highest rating, great customer service! What a concept! I was able to attend, was given a lovely room (with a fireplace!) and a fabulous mattress, which really matters when traveling long distances via automobile. Breakfast was sublime, I indulged in Eggs Benedict one morning which was perfectly executed. For some reason many restaurants never get the egg right and you end up with hard boiled egg on English muffin with curdled Hollandaise sauce. Not so at Gables Inn where their Eggs Benedict is done to perfection. The second day I had standard (perfectly cooked) eggs over easy with bacon & home fries. Gables Inn takes their coffee seriously, the Johnny-on-the-spot servers make sure you never get below the half way mark before offering more perfectly brewed Java. The menu was varied and by the looks of the crowd that gathered to wait, Gables Inn is obviously the local favorite. They even had Matzo Brie, something I have not seen on a breakfast menu since I moved out of New York & certainly never in New England! I love Gables Inn & hope to have the opportunity of returning, next time with my husband for a romantic "Weekend in New England!"

Gables Inn offers a tasty, local breakfast in a quaint, charming setting. Along with good, well-rounded coffee, and delicious pastries, Gables has a traditional breakfast menu that features simple, flavorful combinations. The food is nicely prepared and made from fresh ingredients. A few standouts: eggs benedict, coffee cake, and french toast. The service is accommodating and friendly, albeit a little slow. Since the hotel is small, the dining area is often understaffed. This area includes both an indoor dining room and a closed-in porch. Try to get a place on the porch: it's a great morning spot. Needless to say, a perfect locale for Sunday brunch in Stowe.

Great breakfast, perfectly cooked eggs and pancakes. Had the eggs Benedict and the hollandaise had a different tang flavor that I liked. My boyfriend had simple over easy eggs and bacon and toast and said it was also perfect

Very clean, great breakfast! Can't beat this lovely Vermont inn. I stayed at the end of October and felt comfortable and safe while traveling alone. I hope to make a trip back someday!

On Memorial Day 2014, we stopped by for a quick breakfast at this nice and quaint B&B. I would highly recommend the place. The hostess Sheree Lambert was very accomodating. The server (and service) was quite good. Prices were reasonable. And most importantly, the coffee, omelette, toast and eggs benedict were excellent.

Just returned from a recent stay at The Gables and felt compelled to write a review not only for the inn itself, but for Randy the owner and his staff, which deliver on the quintessential Vermont bed & breakfast-style experience, with great proximity and location to Stowe Mountain Resort. The Gables offers quaint and cozy farmhouse-style accommodations with a spacious communal living room and restaurant, with plenty of comfortable seating and wood-burning fireplace perfect for those cold winter afternoons and nights. We were impressed with the cleanliness all around, and our room well-suited our needs with fresh towels and linens, while we were out. We stayed three nights and was blown away by the all-around hospitality received. From homemade soups and walnut cake every afternoon, to Randy's time spent offering activity and dinner recommendations, we were guided to what delivered on being a very enjoyable trip. Don't think twice in booking your stay here; the quality of breakfast alone makes this one of the best values in Stowe and we'll certainly be back. I assume our next stay will feel more like returning to an old friends' house, as this speaks to the first-class establishment Randy is running. Well done!

Randy runs a warm and wonderfully friendly inn; we have stayed here the past two years and the Gables has become the kind of place where when visiting you go out to eat in town with the owner and you meet guests who return year in and out and do the same and consider Randy to be a friend who happens to own the inn they vacation at. Extremely reasonably priced with a great variety of rooms and only a short ten minute drive to Stowe Mountain Resort, the Gables is the place where travelers who want an authentic Vermont experience while avoiding the sometimes ostentatious side of Stowe. An added bonus of staying at the Gables is that breakfast is included, and I mean like you have a variety of options to choose from and Randy really knocks it out of the park. And as a final bonus after you're day of activity return in the late afternoon to find a big complementary pot of homemade soup simmering next to a pot of hot apple cider.

My husband and I stayed here last winter and had a great experience. They accommodated our dog very well and even had a treat for him when we checked in. The room was clean and comfortable. There was plenty of parking. They even went out of their way to make gluten free soups for apres ski in the afternoons when they found out about my dietary restrictions. We will definitely stay here again the next time we are in Stowe.

Good pancakes and great service. Nothing to complain about. We were there on a Monday and it wasn't crowded at all. I've heard weekends can slow down the service.

Quaint ski inn. We spent three days here after New Years. We stayed in the master suite and it was perfect for the two of us. Breakfast was amazing each morning before we were off to the mountain to ski. Randy and Annette were lovely and very helpful. We would recommend this place for a laid back stay just off the mountain.

This was our third visit and it just keeps on getting better! I can't say enough about how wonderful our breakfast was. Our two children will also agree! It is a bit of a wait but it is absolutely worth it :)

We stayed there for five nights in the Riverview Suite. It was amazing! Very private and very spacious (like twice the size of my Manhattan studio!). The Jacuzzi in the bedroom was also great. Although, it was slightly broken and the water kept draining itself, so after 15 mins in, the water had gone down half the tub. We had to keep the water running from the faucet so the water would be at the appropriate level. Other than thinking that this is such an unnecessary waste of water, it didn't bother us that much. The breakfast was amazingggg! The best eggs benedict I have ever had! The chicken liver was also delicious. I looked forward to having breakfast there every morning during my stay. The wife of the owner was also very attentive and friendly. She knew I liked to have tea with honey, and without having to request for it, she always served my tea with honey throughout the stay. Also, since it was my first time skiing, I didn't invest in a good pair of ski pants. The owner gladly lent me a few pairs of his wife's old ski pants. I was so grateful. Over all, great experience! I will definitely come back to this place if I get to visit Stowe again!
