Clam chowder was great, grilled cheese was spectacular and the flavor never got old or felt too heavy (like some grilled cheeses can), and the chicken salad was delicious and nut-free! A real bonus for me. I wish we could have tried everything. If I lived up there, I'd go back all the time.

I've been here twice. The first time was February and the place was packed. Service was slow. Food was unremarkable. Altogether an uncomfortable experience. But I figured, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and a second chance. This time, mid-summer. Mid-afternoon. Still blah food. Higher than expected prices. Slow service. Cramped dining room. There are so many better options in Stowe. Steer clear of this one.

Awesome service - delicious food. 6 kinds of coffee. We ordered the Greek omelette and it was incredible - fresh, filled with spinach, feta, tomato and kalamata olives . They have gluten free toast (yay) and I got a GF cookie too! The people at the table beside us were raving about their granola - great local spot and worth the visit for breakfast (much more tasty than the green Mountain Inn next door)

Next to the Inn we were staying at.Nice hometown atmosphere. Nice selection for breakfast or lunch. Muffins looked wonderful, passed them for the Nor' Eastern!

If I was a local, I would absolutely be a regular here. Think Luke's Diner on Gilmore Girls. It's small and cozy. You feel right at home. The menu is handwritten on chalkboards. The staff is so friendly and welcoming. It's a very laid back environment. You order you food, and then they bring it to you, but there is no wait staff. It seemed like a good mixture of locals and tourists. Honestly what makes this place is the atmosphere. I can't gush enough about how friendly and relaxed the staff was or how cozy the interior was. The food was delicious and cheap. I had a Belgian waffle with bacon, a simple breakfast. The bacon was cooked more perfectly than any bacon I've ever had. The waffle was good as well, though a bit sweet for me. Like I said, if I lived here, I would probably return daily! Loved it!

We stumbled across this sandwich and salad place while looking for a good lunch place today... I tried the black forest ham sandwich which came with a mango chutney .....was a bit skeptical at first ..but wow.. It was delicious.. The combination of the sweet chutney with the ham and lettuce was perfect. They have a large selection of soups, sandwiches and salads available.. Prices are reasonable as well. Definitely worth checking out.

Came here for the first time today and loved it. After getting burgers and larger lunch all week while on vacation my husband and I just wanted a good deli sandwich. This place hit the spot! I had the 'Sal'ami sandwich and my husband had the turkey sandwich. I loved the hot pepper spread on mine, gave it a nice kick. My husband was a fan of the cranberry mayo with the mustard on his sandwich. I'm very picky when it comes to deli sandwiches since I used to work in a deli for many years. This place did not disappoint. Oh, we also had a chocolate chip cookie which was awesome. Can't wait to go back tomorrow for lunch!

Love this local cafe. When staying at the GMI, we walk up the hill for coffee and breakfast everyday. The staff is wonderful, really friendly. Their baked goods are made on the premises and are delicious as are the items in the case for sandwiches, salads, etc. There are a few outside tables. The combination of great food, coffee and a great staff make this our favorite place for breakfast/coffee when visiting Stowe.

Great Sammie & soup shop! Today I'm having sweet potato soup and chicken salad with apples & cranberries. I also love the turkey Rachel.. Try it grilled. They also serve a basic breakfast.. Eggs, omelets, home made granola & oatmeal!

This review could be just for the waffles, they are by far and away, the best I've had while eating out. The coffee here is average at best, but that's not the point. Having lived in Stowe for nearly 10 years, I have seen this place change hands four times, and the breakfast fare, soups, salads and sandwiches make it my first choice for breakfast or lunch.

If you want fresh ingredients and very nice sandwiches this is your place! Also had breakfast and pastries available. The pretzel twist was amazing. The best part was the friendly staff - thanks, Timothy!

Came for breakfast with my husband while on vacation the other day. Our breakfast was great! Yummy breakfast potatoes, I highly recommend trying them. Grabbed two maple walnut cookies for the road, as I read in another review how good they are. WOW. I'm not sure I've ever had a more delicious cookie, no joke. I'm only giving 4 stars because while refilling my coffee, then my husband's coffee, then getting up once more to just add a splash to warm it up, the girl behind the counter says, "just so you know, coffee refills are $1.00" Really??? First of all, there is no sign that says that. Actually, there's no sign that lists the price of a cup of coffee to begin with.. I've never been anywhere where coffee didn't include refills. So I grabbed two dollars and handed them to her. Oh well. Other than that, I'd return here again if I was in town.

Best food, low cost and friendly people. Highly recommended. They gave us free cookies because "they weren't up to standard". They were the best cookies I have ever eaten.

I was up in Stowe about 2 weeks ago for a ski trip with my family, and we arrived a couple of hours before our house was ready. We were hungry and Yelp led us to this wonderful cozy cafe. The atmosphere felt very welcoming, the wait staff was so nice and helpful. Since we just missed breakfast, they were offering us to sample some of the soups that were fresh made for lunch. The soups were AMAZING!! It was exactly what we needed to warm us up!! The menu is written on a blackboard, and they have so many selections of sandwiches and salads. From my understanding the soups change daily, but if you are in town and they are serving it, you must try the Tomato Soup!!! Everyone was very friendly, the sitting area was very clean, and the prices are extremely reasonable! We had such a good experience, that on our last day in Stowe, we came back for a second helping of some delicious cafe snacks!

I am writing this review solely for their maple walnut cookies. My husband and I visited Stowe last year from NY and went to Cafe on Main. Then my life changed. We bought their maple walnut cookie and loved it so much that we picked up three cookies on the way back to NY. Please, please you guys on Cafe on Main, find a way to ship these cookies to the rest of the country!! I might visit Stowe again just for the cookies :P

This place is average at best. We got our breakfast quickly. I got the 2 eggs special with a side of homefries and it was OKAY. Very greasy...not something you'd expect from a cafe, but from a hole in the wall diner. Their cookies were pretty good, I wouldn't hype it up like the other reviewers have. Self-serve Green Mountain coffee. Looks like more of a local spot. I think I'd venture elsewhere if I'm ever back in Stowe.

A homey little lunch counter, nice pit stop after you've purchased the requiste souvenir t-shirts and tchotkes. I had the curried chicken salad sammy which was solid but a bit dry. I split the soft and delicious sugar cookie, and quite possibly one of the best I've had!

Very good food! First time here and I got the bean burger and a side salad. The salad was fresh and I think the bean burger was homemade and it had a great chipotle mayo on it. The service was pretty good. The woman who took my order was nice and helpful but the younger woman at the register was a little surly. She tried giving me someone else's BLT instead of my bean burger and seemed irritated with me about her own mistake. The atmosphere was not great. We ended up at a larger table with other people and so it was difficult to have a conversation without being overheard. The food was really good so I'll definitely be back.

I was feeling sick and decided to order their chicken noodle soup. The soup was very flavorful and filled with noodles, chicken, and veggies. It definitely filled me up and actually made me feel a bit better. It wasn't overly watered down or anything. This place can get pretty busy so its best to order for take-out. I liked this place and will definitely try out some of their other menu options in the future!

This place was located in a building that had a gift shop, a bookstore, and a clothing store. If you want to grab a bite to eat and shop a little then this is a good place to go if you are visiting Stowe. That is only if you have no plans and want to just shop around. Cafe on Main have many different kinds of sandwiches and soup. I ordered ginger and carrot soup and a roast beef sandwich. The soup was AMAZING. My boyfriend ordered chicken noodle soup and that was great, too! I will warn you that if you look on the menu on yelp, they may not have the soup that you want. You'd have to call and ask them what kind of soup they are serving that day. The roast beef sandwich was okay! I have better sandwiches but it was okay! I ordered for pick up and it was all ready for me to come pick it up. Glad I ordered it to go because the cafe was PACKED. However, if you are in no rush and would like to shop around the building (it's a small building) then go for it!

This is what you are expecting when you go to a cafe in Stowe. Great Food. Great Service, Probably family owned, and that feeling even though its a small small space; you feel right at home. I wish we had come here first before the other cafe in town. Delicious Breakfast Sandwiches, tasty coffee, and smiles on everyones face. Don't need to say anymore. Will recommend, and we will be back!

Great location, centrally located downtown above a great general store. The bread was fresh and amazing. But, I ordered a Turkey Ruben and it wasn't toasted/grilled. There were also black flies in the restaurant. Service was solid though. Don't go out of your way for this place, but if you're downtown its solid.

Went here for breakfast on a girls weekend. The food was out of this world fresh and delicious. Tim and his crew are beyond friendly. The atmosphere was so cozy and welcoming right down to the music. We had to come back for breakfast the second day too!!

Cafe on Main is our place to have lunch at in Stowe. It's small, just a little storefront with a few tables so I dread it getting fuller with more guests, but of course I have to support a place this good. Generally speaking, I am not a fan of soup, but I could easily live off their carrot ginger soup. Still, I am usually draw to their superlative BLT. It falls apart quick but it's perfect. I m a fan of both of their chicken salads even though I consider myself a chicken salad slob. As for their cookies, the maple walnut cookie is phenomenal.

Great little spot to get good sammiches, read a book or just people watch. I love their turkey BLT with Swiss cheese, but get it on their amazing sourdough instead of the wheat bread! Cheers

Great little coffee shop at the base of mountain road. Excellent coffee, and great baked treats. A good breakfast stop, but need to arrive before the rooster crows since it's so tiny!

Another really great breakfast spot, which there seem to be plenty of in Stowe...perhaps that's why I fell in love with this town. Excellent eggs and pancakes. I might have liked some home fries with the eggs and bacon, and would have happily paid more for the dish. But no biggie. I like this place a lot. Good baked goods, too.

We stumbled across this cafe when we were inside Shaw's Store shopping. It was packed so we knew it had to be great food so we decided to wait. The service was very friendly, the staff was more than happy to assist us with their menu of specialty sandwiches, soups, etc.. We tried their famous grilled cheese sandwich made with Vermont Cheddar and some of their fresh baked cookies - all of it being delicious! The grilled cheese is served buttery with a crust and served piping hot! Highly Recommend!

Nice little place. Decent breakfast sandwiches. Good looking and tasting salads. It's a tad pricey, but not terrible value for Stowe. I recommend it highly for a light breakfast or lunch, OR to pick some things up to go for s picnic.
