Very helpful and attentive service, they will never let your beverage glass go empty! Really wonderful coffee and breakfast. I got a sausage and cheese omelette and my fiance got a western omelette. Homefries came out family style and were very delicious. If you want a nice sit down breakfast in Rutland, try it here.

Dellveneri Bakery provided the dessert for our wedding. The planning and tasting process was easy and convenient. The logistical planning for day of delivery was flawless. And, most importantly, the presentation and taste was to die for! The chocolate cupcakes with beautiful swirled maple buttercream were topped with hand painted gum paste maple leaves. The boston creme donuts were perfectly golden! Our guests raved about the desserts as they enjoyed them all evening and the next morning at brunch. Thank you, Dellveneri Bakery!

Southside Steakhouse

Wonderful meal. Wonderful atmosphere. Could not have been happier with my dining experience.
We saw this from the side of the road and decided to check out the Yelp reviews. We walked to the restaurant from our hotel (Comfort Inn) since it has adjacent parking lots. The outside of the restaurant is a little odd, seems like it is in an office building but once you are inside looks like a fancy steakhouse. The restaurant only had a few min wait for 2people on a Fri night. The bar was busy and loud. It was an interesting mix of customers, saw a few babies but none were a nuisance! I had a signature cocktail (sparkling pear something), Caesar salad (huge, fed two!) and the Southside burger. I really liked the "coleslaw" which I think was a kale (?) salad. My boyfriend enjoyed his prime rib. Friendly, nice, good food, I would come back.
Wine list excellent! Bar and restaurant beautifully designed. Love the wall of wine. Had a great time. My food cooked to perfection. I'm pretty picky and do not write very many reviews. I'm can't wait to go back. Wally brought a great restaurant back to the old South Station.

Roots the Restaurant

Happened upon this gem early on a Saturday evening. We stopped in for an early dinner before heading back to New York. Our timing was perfect; a few minutes later and we might not have been able to get a table because apparently every table was reserved from around 5 pm until after 8 pm. I suggest making reservations, especially on a Friday or Saturday. Catherine was our waitress and she was excellent. I told her that I was in the mood for a whiskey drink and at Catherine's suggestion I ordered a citrus basil julep, which is a cocktail with bourbon and basil. It was delicious and refreshing. The basil, as Catherine explained, adds flavor and complexity without overpowering the bourbon. Truly a clever concoction. Everything we ordered was flavorful and well-prepared. The menu is brimming with fresh and locally-sourced ingredients. The place had a nice vibe and the staff was of good cheer. I must admit that I did not expect to find a place like this in Rutland but, lo and behold, I stumbled upon a diamond in the rough. I recommend the brie fondue. It's epic. I'm serious. We're talking life-changing fondue here.
We really like Roots for "upscale casual" dining. The staff are super friendly and the food is generally excellent (we've had the occasional dud dish, but for the most part, we consider it the price of experimenting). Prices are reasonable for the quality. You're never rushed out, even when it's busy, which makes for a convivial meal. The place is small, and can get a bit noisy on a weekend evening - brick walls mean the sound bounces. But it's the noise of conversation, not over-loud music, so it's not harsh or unpleasant. We really enjoy the atmosphere. They have awesome homemade potato chips, and we love the beet salad for "down-home" fare!
Nice little spot. Cozy and friendly. Exposed brick. Neat lighting. Great drinks. I ordered a lemonade spiked with fresh blueberries that had a nice taste and was cool and refreshing. Got a nice beet salad atop a great bed of spinach plus goat cheese sprinkled over all of it.

Hands down the best breakfast place you can go to in Rutland county. Nowhere else comes close (although there are other good places too). I make it a point to stop here when I'm in Vermont. There's plenty of parking, but you might have to wait a bit if you hit it during peak. The longest I ever waited was thirty minutes with a party of five on Mother's Day. Otherwise, you're usually right in. I think they only take reservations for large parties. Good food, good service, and friendly staff. Try the Mexican or Montreal Scrambles, huge portions.
We brought two of our kids here for a late Monday breakfast. Finally a breakfast both kids loved! Darling daughter had the house omelet. Handsome son had a breakfast sandwich. This kid is usually a bottomless pit but he was quite satisfied with the sandwich. I had steak and eggs, they were cooked perfect. Only uncomfortable moment was hearing the kitchen staff say when ever someone orders Medium or Medium well (my order) the waitress should let out a big sigh because its a waste of meat. *yikes* But they did find an order of sausage and biscuits for my dearest. Food was amazing and waitress was a doll!
3.5 stars. My husband and I ate breakfast here on the way home from a weekend in Vermont. This place is a nice family breakfast place. We split pancakes, french toast, and hash browns. They use fresh Vermont maple syrup. Yummy yummy! Service was nice and quick. The bathroom was clean though a bit oddly decorated. We'll probably return as this place has a convenient location on the way home to NJ.

The Paw House Inn

1376 Clarendon Ave
Rutland, 05701
Reviews:
We just got back from a four day, three night stay at the Paw House. We stayed in Shakespeare's Retreat, one of the larger (but not the largest) rooms at the inn. Kirsten, the on-site general manager, made sure that we had a great stay. She said she's been there about 4 and a half months and is the first live-in manager since the owners moved out in 2006. Other managers had not lived on the property. It sounds like a tag line, but the Paw House really does cater to dogs. There is a penned in area for them to run around in, a separate building called Mario's Playhouse where you can leave your dog in an indoor run if you don't want to take them with you, and there is an abundant supply of poop bags, towels, and extra bowls for food and water. FYI - There are 2 rules that were more of a pain for the guest than the dog. (1) You can't wear your outside shoes into the house, so bring some slippers or clean inside shoes. Otherwise you are walking around in your socks. (2) Your dog cannot stay in your room alone for any amount of time and they are not welcome in the breakfast room. To take your dog over to the Playhouse before you ate breakfast meant that you had to change shoes and walk across the lawn and back. Pros: Penned in outdoor play area, a walking path that goes for about 30 minutes on the property, separate indoor runs for each dog in a building that is heated/cooled, three choices for breakfast entrees every morning, dogs are welcome in the common areas and anywhere in the inn as long as they are with you. Cons: The indoor/outdoor shoe rule, the location of the inn means that most activities are a bit of a drive - anywhere from 15 to 60 minutes away.
The Paw House is a godsend for those of us with pets who've stayed in hotels where they treat you like second hand citizens, just because of our furry companions. Mitch and Jen have set up such a sweet little Inn, I'll be back for sure! It's located just outside of Rutland within easy access of hiking trails, Killington and all other fun things that Vermont has to offer. Each room has a theme of a different canine hero (I stayed in Rin Tin Tin) and is pleasant and cozy. They also have a separate building for our pups to stay, for those meals/events in which we don't involve them. This building is equipped with a big bathtub (for cleaning up after romps in the mud), TVs, cubbies and a food prep area for our pooches. Mitch & Jen also have trainers come by so owners can opt in for training sessions (unfortunately not Cesar Milan). Also on the grounds is a play area with an agility course to test out your pup's jumping skills. It's all in good fun- One last thing, the breakfast that is prepared in the morning is oh so yummy!
AWESOME. Our first time here (me, my husband, and our dog-from Boston): *Extremely friendly staff *Very clean *Since this place caters to owners who love their dogs so much, you automatically filter out to people who have a common joy- dogs *Great location for access to hiking adventures with your dog(s), great food (a few places that's are also dog friendly - the trak-in restaurant with an unbelievable view!), and local shops (Brandon and Woodstock) *They have the convenience of the nice kennel if you want to eat somewhere nice without your furry companion - they play music and a tv while the dogs are in the kennel *Delicious breakfast every morning *The details Mitch and his crew take care of- can't compare to anywhere else who allow dogs at a B+B WE WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK!!!!!

Server was Laura tonight. Post Spartan beast. She was the right combination of sarcastic and fantastic service. Made my NY heart swell. And feel at home. I was craving a burger. And the menu drew me in. Garlic Sweet Potato fries? Kale Slaw!? Let's do it. Food was good enough to rival burger places in NY. Seriously. I'm shocked. If in Rutland, come and visit. Ask for Laura.
The Reuben review caught my eye, and being my favorite sandwich for years, I thought I would try it. My expectations were somewhat high and I most certainly was not disappointed! I asked for it with no dressing, as I prefer mustard only. It is served on what looked like marble swirl rye, and what makes the sandwich remarkable is the corned beef. It was obviously hand carved, and had just enough fat visible to add flavor. I discussed the sandwich with my server, and found out the corned beef is roasted in-house and hand carved! Enough said. The service was very good, and my server was attentive, and the hostess came by and checked in with me as well. Nice to sit on the rear outside patio.
Really excellent food. Atmosphere inside is so, so. We ate on the back patio. That was nice. Wait staff seemed rushed.

Cara Mia’s Pizzeria

50 Strongs Ave
Rutland, 05701
Reviews:
One of the fastest restaurants in Rutland. Usually takes 10-15 minutes every time, while other lunch options like Gills usually take an hour (if you call in) I think the food is great here, the people are nice. We choose Cara Mia's AT LEAST once a week. I really recommend you to try this place out. I haven't had one bad thing off the menu. My suggestions.... Hot Italian Sub Any Calzone Chicken Parm Sub Pizza is great, with authentic Sauce, and thin crust. Definitely in the Top 2 of Rutlands Best Pizza.
Cara Mias charges an entire dollar for anything other than the lettuce and meat (specifically on mine was black olives, pickles, onions and cheese). I have given them the benefit of the doubt and I have ordered a sub from Cara Mias a couple of different times now and every single time they have been skimpy with their fillings. I think i counted four onions, seven black olives and four pickles...for four dollars. The time before this I got tomatoes when I didn't ask for them nor am I a fan of them. I also asked for extra pickles and again could count them on one and a half hands. Hence this review. If you are looking for a loaded up sub, meat and no extra cost for veggies, check out Maxies Tubs and Mini Subs on State Street in Rutland. Reasonable and much tastier.
During my short stay in Rutland, I spotted several times the Cara Mia's Pizzeria delivery trucks "whizzing by" through Downtown Rutland. The delivery trucks are oven heated for "hot" delivery. I was getting hungry and I decided to give Cara Mia's a try for dinner takeout. Cara Mia's Pizzeria is open 7 days a week at 11AM and geared towards takeout and delivery only since the place has no table seating, just a few seats for waiting across from the order counter with open kitchen area. For takeout, I ordered a Small 10" Cheese Pizza ($5) and a Spaghetti & Sausage Dinner ($5), totaling $11 with tax. I watched my food being made as I waited. The pizza dough was hand stretched and spun in the air, then topped with sauce and Grande mozzarella cheese and put in an oven lined with bricks. The food was ready in under 12 minutes. The cheese pizza was pretty good, which had a thin chewy crust with plenty of thick tomato sauce and cheese, a bit greasy. The spaghetti & sausage (in a round foil container) was very good, which was a good sized portion of al dente spaghetti, a thick soft Italian sausage and plenty of thick and chunky tomato sauce, served with a warm section of soft French bread loaf. I enjoyed the food with a nice green salad I had packed in my cooler. Overall, a solid good dinner at a reasonable price with a few pizza slices leftover. I would order from Cara Mia's again.
