This restaurant was pretty good and unexpected to find. Decor was modern rustic and had an updated feel to it. Ambiance was good and romantic. My husband and I each had the lobster bisque, which was good - I don't like peppers so was a little surprised to find them in there - it may have been listed on the menu, but I could have easily overlooked it. I had a chicken dish which was good and my husband had a burger, which he enjoyed as well. Good experience overall.

Been here a few times prior. The food has always been good. But tonight was the first time with a big group, and even though the restaurant wasn't full it couldn't have been more disorganized. They didn't take drink orders for the whole table at once. Another large party who sat down after we did was served both their apps and dinner first. We had asked to order but by the time he came back to take it they were out of burgers. And when we finally got served almost an hour after being seated, apps and mains came out together, and one of the salads was missing. The woman server with the accent was quite nice and attentive and comped us the missing salad, but it was just a frustrating experience. Pity as the good is good there....

Could there really be this little hidden gem in Redding? Why hadn't I heard about this place before? The answers are "yes" and "who cares". But if you find yourself up near Okemo, Woodstock or anywhere else within 50 miles, this is a great bistro place. We came here on a Saturday night around 6:30; within a half hour it was nearly full -- and, in summer, there wasn't a skier to be found. (Reservations not required, but we made one anyways). We brought our three kids along and saw two other families here. There is a "verbal" kids menu of chicken tenders (fresh huge pieces of chicken -- so good that I had to had a few bites), pasta and burger etc. And they all come with some carrot sticks too. It was a steal of a price too. We had the PEI mussels (so good), a house salad (don't forget to ask for the blue cheese if you want it), and two specials that day: Chicken Marsala and a "French Dip"-type sandwich. All were delicious. The sandwich deserves a special mention for the dipping sauce (not too rich or salty) and the outrageously good fries. If there's a dish with the fries, get them. They are some of the best you'll have. Very fresh and generously portioned (and with a little skin on the tips). The desserts are also not to be missed including Maple Creme Brulee and homemade sorbets. The fresh biscotti too was a very nice touch. And a full bar too. All this for about $100? That same meal costs $175 in New York. But don't let the setting fool you, this is outstanding bistro-pub food. We'll be back. Early and often. P.S. Good luck getting a cell phone signal here!

Yelp did not disappoint me tonight. I don't think we would have ever noticed this place without the Yelp reviews. The meal was wonderful. I started with the Butternut Squash Bisque which was divine. My husband chose the New York Strip which was great, no fat at all. I had the Shoyu Glazed Salmon. I tend to order salmon at a lot of restaurants, but this was probably the best I ever had. It was a quiet restaurant in rural Vermont, but definitely worth driving out of your way to try!!!

This is one of our favorite little spots outside of Woodstock. The food is always fantastic and service is great. We have been here many times over the years after someone recommended this as the "locals" place in VT. Usually I am always good for the kielbasa sausage entree or the burger. That was what I was going to order tonight, but I went with the duck special. IT WAS OUT OF THIS WORLD. My wife had the sea bass and that was fantastic as well. I think there is a husband/wife team as the owners and they are doing a fantastic job with the food, good beer selection, and great atmosphere.

In the middle of the woods this gem rocks. Great little bar, excellent beers. We've been twice in a month and the raves are "best salmon ever" (and we live close to great fish restaurants), great rock hen, delicious free range roast chicken. Also had the mushroom bisque and it knocked me for a loop. We had dessert on our first visit - short list, but delicious choices. They've got a vermont cheddar cheeseburger on the menu - want to go for it, but the poultry and fish might help me live longer. I've seen it delivered to nearby diners, received with oohs and ahhs. UPDATE 11/25/14: we have been many times since our first visit. I am a fan of French onion soup, and theirs is the best I've had in all my years of sampling. Likewise, as suspected the burger is excellent as are the fries. My daughter loves the clam chowders, and I agree it is great. If you like dessert you will love Keepers.

Keeper's Cafe is a charming, comfortable place that also happens to serve terrific food! The atmosphere is just right...lower noise level so you can hear your companions, lower..but not too low lighting, spacious table set up etc. four of us recently had dinner there...two house-made kielbasa, one salmon, one lamb chops and we all loved our dinners. They are plated with interesting and colorful sides...most of the food is locally sourced. The service was fabulous...I think it was one of the owners...always a smile, totally knew the preparations and ingredients and willing to change up the asparagus hash for mashed potatoes for our lamb chop eater. That night, entrees ranged from $14-$33 with most in the $20-$24 range. This place is a Keeper!

Amazing find nestled in Vermont, just down the road from Woodstock. Extremely fresh, locally grown food, cooked to perfection. They have a small standing menu but a wide variety of daily specials (~6 entree specials plus 2 vegetarian entrees). Great meal for the price! Staff is friendly, environment feels clean yet rustic, and tables are broken into a few rooms so it's not too loud. There's a 6-8 seat bar if you just want to get a drink or are eating solo. I will definitely be coming back!

We went to Vt. with our son and his family. My husband and I had made plans to go here for dinner. The kids arrived earlier than expected and with just 20 min. notice we added them without a problem. The food was 5 star. The duck was super as was the mussels. Desserts were terrific. If you are in the area do not miss this place!

Easily 5 stars!!! This place has been recommended to us about a dozen times and we tried it Saturday night for the first time. Who woulda thought we'd find such a spectacular place to eat in the middle of the woods. We were seated immediately on a Saturday night even though the place was pretty busy. Decor was warm and inviting and the staff was friendly and efficient. I started with a Butternut Squash soup which was garnished with a little swirl of sour cream. It was delicious. My boyfriend had the keeper's salad with sherry vinegarette, which I tried and was terrific as well. For my meal, I had the pasta special which was penne in a garlic cream sauce, with smoked chicken (which couldn't have been tastier and more juicy), cold, roasted roma tomatoes for a little contrast with the hot meal. The whole dish was covered in parmesan cheese, walnuts and chives. It was maybe the best thing I've eaten in years. My companion had the Bangers and Mash, which he LOVED and which I tried and loved as well. The bangers were out of this world, although I still loved my own dinner more. Came with gravy, spinach and apple sauce. To finish I had the Maple Creme Brulee and Nicky had the flourless chocolate truffle pie. My broolay was a little on the overdone side, but underneath was still delicious and it didn't affect the 5 star rating. The menu changes daily, which bums me out a bit since I would love to get the pasta thing again. And not that you will, but if you find yourself in the area, definitely go.

Traveling through New England it can be difficult at times to know where to turn for above average food. The distance between fine dinning establishments and the cold (in winter) can conspire to lock you into many a marginal place. Keeper's if far from this. A warm, enviting location with the feel of a little bit of city style (rather than overly New England) makes this place a standout in Southern/Central Vermont. The food/menu is varied and represents a number of fusion elements that make each dish intriguing and tasty. The service is superior, informed and friendly. The standout entrees the night we were there included the sirloin and the shrimp risotto. The beet salad and very unique tequilla infused gravlax were the stars of the apetizers. A special cheesecake made its way to our table and we can only hope it finds its way to the menu.

We live about 20 minutes away and this is by far my favorite restaurant around. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the staff is friendly and helpful, the food is always delicious and the menu ranges from a great burger to fresh seafood. Whenever we have a special occasion, I always want to go to Keeper's because it's a beautiful drive and I know we will have a memorable meal. Well worth the trip.

This is a terrific find, a bit less than half an hour from Ludlow. It is a farm-to-table restaurant with great locally sourced food. Among the items we ordered was an excellent cheese plate, a vey fresh arugula and beet salad, and fried local kielbasa with home-made sauerkraut. More casual (and less expensive) than The Downtown Grocery, there is a grass-fed local beef burger every night if you want even more casual (or bring less adventurous eaters). The decor is very clean and the tables are not on top of one another. This was definitely worth the drive, and we will be back.

LIke many of the other reviewers, I would have overlooked this gem if it hadn't been yelped so highly. My friends who live less than 1/2 hour from this place didn't even know about it. We checked the place out via yelp/their website and I called for a 6:30 reservation at 1PM on Saturday in Peeper Season...and got a table!! Amazing. The cozy atmosphere is country but with class. Assorted tables and chairs, well placed sound and lighting, and a good vibe (which, after 8:00 got rather loud in a good way). Our server was exceptional in recommending things, saying yes to every high maintenance request we had and (owner don't get mad!!) when I ordered a Grand Marnier with desert, let me know that it was $22 a snifter. I skipped it but had coffee and dessert any way, and didn't leave intending to write a scathing yelp about markup (VT liquor price for a 750ml of GM is $42..that's 24 oz so basically the owner makes cost back on the first two pours and profit on the next 10 OR 220 profit per bottle). But I digress...Appetizers: Roasted Squash Bisque...don't know they sold out. French Onion Soup...good flavor and plenty of cheese on top. Crab Wands...Probably not house made but very tasty and the orange dipping sauce fantastic. House salad w/ Chevre got a rave from my friend. Entrees: Mushroom wands w/ side of beans came out as an app and a side, rather than a great presentation, but ultimately was greatly enjoyed. Chicken stuffed with bacon, Kale and Cheese w/ roasted potato wedges and beets was very moist, tasty and the 1/2 portion was enough to satisfy and have room for deserts. The bread and OO btw was great, the oil so forward with fresh olive and a very low acidity it was almost drinkable. On to deserts..we'll skip the cordial issue and say that the Flourless Chocolate Cake, Blueberry tartan and creme brulee were all much enjoyed to the point of wondering if we should order another round to go. Add to the above 3 cocktails and 5 glasses of wine, and walk away under $200...staggeringly amazing. Don't go though, I want to keep this place to myself.

"A Country Cafe" is misleading, this is some high quality food!! Totally unexpected for being in the middle of nowhere. Unfortunately it isn't very inspiring for vegetarians, but they were more than happy to fix me something. Pasta without the shrimp, but it was the best vodka sauce I've ever had. And they discounted it, which is a plus in my book. The meat eaters I was with loved it. One said it was the best steak she had ever had! Great food, great service, I'd definitely come here again!

Four of us had a lovely dinner here with excellent salads and very good entrees. Not a large menu, but everything was ordered was good. Friendly and attentive service. My only question is, what's up with the teeny tiny pieces of bread which were about two bites per person?? But that was my only minor complaint. This is a nice place, a beautiful drive from Woodstock. Packed during peak season, call ahead for reservations.
