Clean restaurant, fresh food, and great service. Our fries were fresh cut and the cheese and bacon were real. Not many diners pass my standards but this one was quite exceptional.

Cozy place for good food at nice prices. Got the Turkey Club and it was good roast turkey, not deli meat like you get in some places. Service was good even with only one waitress covering several patrons. Try the spiced hot cider if it's available (seasonal)!

We stop in for breakfast while camping down the street. This is the kind of place my wife and I enjoy. Good food, friendly service, no surprises. But don't you hate it when you place your order, then they walk by with something that looks awesome. In the morning, if it's not raining, we will stop in again.

We made our third visit to the Putney Diner in April and we've always thought the food was very good the service was good, but we are quite amazed at how the prices seem to have really gone up since last Fall. Granted, the last two visits were for breakfast not lunch but it still seemed kind of dear. I'm not sure they still deserve the one dollar sign designation.

We decided to give it a chance and we are glad we did. Good food at reasonable price and quickly delivered. The diner was not crowded, so perhaps that is the key to success. Our plates were empty!

Wow, I'm pretty shocked and saddened at the number of poor reviews for this place, as my ex and I would take the 2 hour drive frequently just to eat here. He had gone to school in the area and always talked about this place, and we both were big fans. All the food I have ever gotten here has been delicious, in particular The Putney Sundae (I think that's what it's called) which is a cake donut topped with vanilla ice cream, maple syrup, and whipped cream.

I really wanted to like this diner, I really did. It's located across the street from church so it makes sense for Sunday breakfast. The waitress is my primary reason for not returning. You'll get a big coffee cup because they will probably forget to refill it. I've sat for over 15 minutes without being served. The food wasn't bad but it wasn't cheap enough for me to bump my star rating.

I went back recently and the food was pretty bad--maybe they got a new cook. The biscuit I got with my eggs was inedible--hard as a hockey puck. I hope they manage to improve...

Pretty good food for a college budget! :D Apple cider is AMAZING! But... they don't have it a lot. Also, god bless her for being there and working so hard, but the main waitress won't be arsed to make you a milkshake if you go to school up the hill. ;p But the burgers are great, and the desserts vary daily... red velvet cake slices are HUGE and so are brownies! But service is slow, and very passive: you have to either be a regular or keep egging them on... it's not fun, but if you're stuck in town it may be your only option. I would recommend Bickford's but that's now gone from the Brattleboro roundabout. And for those who wrote in their review about finding parking, there's a small lot in the back that's usually quite empty. Use that. :)

Decent little "hometown" style diner - i had the cheese burger as well as the bacon cheese fries (which were quite good). Service was exactly as you'd expect at this sort of establishment - not lightning fast, however everything was made exactly to order. Finding parking may be tricky if you don't know the area well, but that's a minor point.

It took me three years of living in the area before I actually had a meal here and, well, I wasn't missing much. It's a diner. It does diner things like a diner should in a mediocre diner way---the portions are not as big as diner-sized, though. I guess I should excuse it for being a small town diner but I have had way better and cheaper diner food at small town diners in towns that aren't nearly as tourist-visited as Putney. I can't really recommend the Putney Diner if you're traveling to or through the area, despite how much I want you to spend your money in my local economy.

I thought this diner was great. The waitress, who seems as if she has been there since the beginning, was a hoot. My husband ordered a buckwheat pancake and she told him (TOLD HIM) he would have it with blueberries. He did and loved it. I asked for a few things different from the menu and was accommodated without a problem. The coffee was good and strong and I loved the breakfast. The eggs were fresh and the corned beef hash was made in house with peppers and onions. But I especially loved the waitress. My husband ordered 4 slices of pie to go and wanted to order a fifth but the waitress told him "No" that she was cutting him off. I am sure, with her years of experience, she knows what customers she can "mess" with and get away with it. We loved her and her sassiness so much we would go back just to see her. Oh, and we found parking right in front. Good parking karma.

Everything said in the previous reviews is spoy on but. for those of us who have more than the last year to compare it to are disappointed in the most recent version of the Putney Diner. The need to make it economically should not be evident when one orders their meal but it is clear today that the current proprietors are watching pennies. Let me be clear I am no snob and the current owners are very nice people but there has been a sugnificant decrease in the quality and variety of the offerings of the Putney Diner. Still it is a fine place to meet and get lunch just don't expect the legendary accolades that lauded this locale as one of New England's best diners. That was then and this now.

Some Yelpers seem to have had bad experiences here. Not us. There are a number of pretty decent diners around the southern parts of VT and NH, and this is among them, based on our several trips here. We've visited only for breakfasts, and by some peculiar circumstance, we've never been here when there was a big crowd, which could color our experience. But -- what we found instead was friendly, neighbor-like service from several waitresses, diner prices (inexpensive) and tasty breakfasts. The kitchen knows to cook the home fries with lots of onions, and they come out hot and crunchy and nicely seasoned. The eggs are fresh, and so is the crispy bacon. You get a couple of tea bags for your hot tea, and the coffee has been strong and freshly brewed. So, we're very satisfied with our experiences. Always been meaning to try lunch but never have been around here at that time of day. When we do, we'll add on to this.

Never got to eat a thing here. Came in and was told to seat ourselves by the waitress and then sat for 20 minutes while watching one other party leave. We got up to leave and the waitress said she'd be right there only to notice her 10 minutes later sitting at a table doing bookkeeping on het tickets. We never even got a cup of coffee which we should have had two minutes after we arrived. As we left the woman looked up at us and said she was sorry. What the heck?

Have been here over an hour and they have not brought our food. When the food finally came my son asked: Is my side of bacon coming? At which point GE waitress pointed to my other sons plate and said - if there are 6 pieces on that plate then you can take it off that plate. Unbelievable - worst experience. I would give it a negative star if you had them
