Great place to stay. We enjoyed the ambience and friendly relaxed vibe. Dont expect a high class hotel and you will have a great time!

If you're on a budget (since you're already playing a lot to ski), this is the place for you. It's 15 minutes from Okemo, and it's easy to get there. The price was right, the restaurant downstairs was awesome, and there was a nice bar downstairs. I'd recommend this place for people in their 20's, people on a budget, who just are looking for a simple place to rest their head at night. I would stay here again. They only do Breakfast on Saturday & Sunday mornings, so watch for that. Really simple Breakfast (2 cereals, granola, and some yogurt).

We enjoyed it. :) So as far as the other reviews... people talking about the lack of heat and the noise, those didn't apply to us. We were there for Memorial Day weekend, in the area to see the Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site. Because of that, the weather was lovely, and the bar wasn't open, so it was nice and quiet. Free wifi, very quiet. Al (the innkeeper) was very helpful suggesting places for us to eat and hike. Because we were there in May, they didn't have a chef there. Instead, we were given a voucher to have a breakfast at the Coolidge Site's diner. I'd stay there again. :)

I got there at about 6pm. There was no one at reception. Apparently it's self check in. My room was freezing cold so turned up the heat to about 70° with ease. The room remained freezing cold so I finally called the manager at about 11pm. The manager simply accused me of breaking the thermostat, changed the thermostat and said he didn't want to talk about it. And I just found out that there is a $100 charge for breaking a thermostat. I don't believe you can accuse a client for breaking something if the owner never proved the thermostat was working in the first place. Anyway, the manager was really rude and hung up the phone on me. It's like he puts the broken thermostat and makes sure he is not present when people move in just so he can charge the extra $100 to unsuspecting clients!

Okay, so we booked this place because it was really cheap, like, basically the cheapest in all of the Killington area. We didn't worry too much because most of the complaints were about it being cold and we decided to bring a small space heater with us. The space heater definitely made the room a lot warmer than it would've been without it. The one night that we decided to turn it off it did get kind of cold in there. Unfortunately, the walls and ceilings in the building are really thin, so you can hear just about everything from your neighbors. Double unfortunately, we had a bunch of dude-bros staying right above us who insisted on staying up past 2:30 in the morning both nights we stayed there, playing music, talking about using their parents credit cards, and stomping around. Now, I realize you can't control who stays in a hotel, that's not my problem. My problem is the guy who runs the BnB. We called him at 1:10 am the first night we stayed there to ask him to go up to the room and ask the people to quiet down. His response? "Dude, it's 1 AM. I'm sleeping. Just go up and ask them to quiet down yourself." Yeah, thanks for that. If we go up to the Killington area again, I think it's definitely worth it to shell out 20 more bucks a night and stay somewhere with a little bit more customer service. And hopefully thicker walls and ceilings.

Horrible breakfast. Mild on the oatmeal. Dirty glasses for the OJ. Coffee was cold. The carriage house kitchen was lacking many things to cook a meal. No knives, spatulas and serving utensils. Pots and pans are gross. They need to step it up for the rates they charge.

Stayed here for a 2 night stay. Great value for what you get. A couple things that might be an issue Heat: It takes a while for the rooms to heat up, but once they do they sit around 70 F. Noise: Walls are paper thin, i was able to talk to my friend staying in an adjacent room Bfast: Not a fully stocked kitchen, but what do you expect when you're paying rock bottom prices! They just got a waffle maker, so that is a big plus The restaurant in the inn is really good, beer is great, and there is a free pool table. Lets not pretend this is a 4 star hotel. Set your expectations accordingly and you will have a good time. Just pray that you don't get placed next to loud people :)

This place was pretty much perfect. The room on the 3rd floor was cozy and warm, with a great back deck. Al, the innkeeper, is a great guy and super helpful/friendly. We even went on a Heady Topper beer run together! The food is phenomenal here. I had the pulled pork sandwich. Brad, the head cook, is super nice. They also have a nice pool table and a great draft/bottle list. We booked this place super last minute, and they were super accommodating. Definitely going back next year!

Great place. I stayed one night at the end of a Killington snowboarding trip. If you like quaint bed and breakfast type places this one is fun. The owner is really friendly, great little bar/restaurant with really, really good food for dinner. Rooms are as I mentioned, quaint, but comfortable and I prefer this style of lodging to chains. Just more personality and adds more memories to a trip. Breakfast was fairly basic....with a dinner menu like that I bet a killer breakfast could be possible. Worth staying here, and I'll be back!

COLD! The don't heat the 1st floor. We had to wear jackets at breakfast! Everytime someone came in, the door downstairs slammed, shook the place and kept us up all night. We complained to the manager/owner, but he just stared at door shock and said they tried fixing it before... He actually turned our room heat off & tried blaming it on his one employee and saying it not financially feasible to leave it one while we went out. But it took almost 3 hours to heat the room back up and the thermostat is lock to go no higher than 68. The 'pub' is closed and looks like it has been for awhile, the fireplaces haven't been used in a very long time. Because he doesn't heat the downstairs, you have to wear a jacket to have breakfast. Seriously. He knows you won't come back. He lives in the red section of the inn's picture and stays there unless someone dials '200' on the phone. From the stars in other reviews, he bought the place 12-18 months ago. He figured it would be an easy way to make money and do little to nothing. The prior owners knew the place was coming up on upgrades and upkeep. The furniture and mattresses are all very old and look like something from a yard sale. Not rustic or B&B like, but trashy and cheap. Thankfully we had planned most of our weekend outside of the inn...

We stayed here over a weekend in July and it was quite nice! Our room was perfect for families and everyone was very helpful. The inn itself was very cute. Though the bar and restaurant weren't open, we got a breakfast voucher for a super cute historic restaurant. Other than a broken fan in our room, it was great! We will stay again.

This Inn is clean and comfortable. I stayed mid-week so it was very quite, which I didn't mind cause I did my socializing elsewhere and I just wanted to have a quite place to sleep. The room had character and so did the bar area. It's only a short ride to Killington and Okemo ski areas and the nightly rate is the best in the area. I will definitely stay there again.

Warning: not family friendly. My family and I stayed here one night, and it was one night too many. Upon arrival, we were greeted by unshoveled stairs and dog waste leading up to the Inn. That should have been our first warning. Since we were traveling with children we booked the "family" room (the Moore room) which was terrible. Upon arrival, our room was a balmy 46 degrees (F), with the thermostat set at 50. We went elsewhere for dinner and came back to the room 2 hours later and the room was still 58 degrees and hardly reached 62 by bedtime. We tucked our cold selves into bed and attempted to get some rest. Falling asleep was impossible because the "family" room that we stayed in was located directly above the tavern. We could distinctly hear conversations, clattering silverware, loud music, people playing pool and laughing. Every time someone went in or out of the Inn we could hear the door slam and feel the walls of our room shake. In the morning breakfast was disappointing and consisted of cold coffee, english muffins, and cereal with no bowls to eat it from. We saw no one present who worked at the Inn who we could present our complaints to so we dropped our key at the drop box and left. The only good thing I can say is that the sheets were clean and the bed was comfortable. It was the worst hotel experience I have ever had, especially for $190/night. Needless to say, we will not be returning.

This place left us cold. Literally. Upon check-in, we found our room at a "balmy" 50 degrees. Yes, that's right, folks. 5 - 0 degrees! I called down to the proprietor who assured me that the thermostat worked and all we had to do was turn it up. We cranked it up to 68, the highest recommended per written instructions, and turned on the blower. Those very same instructions reassured us that it would take about 15 minutes for the room to come up to temperature. Yeah. No. While it was so chilly in our room, we chose to go down to the common area which boasted a big and toasty fireplace, which was truly welcoming and warming. About an hour later, we returned to our room, now a still brisk 60 degrees. Not so happy. We left the inn that evening, as planned, to enjoy a dinner visit with my son, who lives in Plymouth and works at nearby Killington Ski Resort. Arriving back at our room four hours later, the temperature had soared to 64 degrees. Hmmmm. We loaded extra blankets on the bed and slept pretty well, thanks to a very comfortable mattress. Morning. The room was at 66 degrees, despite the heat being turned on full blast all night. I turned on the shower and the water was cold. Brrrrr. My husband was able to coax it to hot. Lucky him. Putting on my smiling face, we headed down to the dining room for breakfast. The dining room was rustic and pleasant, with self-serve coffee, toast, and juices. Our proprietor served us eggs and home fries. The scrambled eggs were okay, tender but unremarkable. The home fries appeared to be the standard frozen and reheated species, just cooked and salted cubed potatoes. And the self-serve coffee was weak. Sigh. On the plus side, the inn itself is charming, having been an operating inn since 1830. The decor is charming and quaint, with some nice attention to detail. The place is clean, informal, and friendly. Our proprietor provided us with cheerful customer service and our arctic room, while cold and much too cramped, was pretty with Victorian decor and a big bay window. To the proprietor's credit, this is a Certified Green Inn, which I wholeheartedly respect and support. However, when guests' comfort is severely compromised, one begins to wonder if green could somehow be more customer friendly. My husband designated the Salt Ash Inn as a "blue" establishment, as blue is the color of someone who has frozen to death.

Despite a friendly staff and decent rooms, I can't recommend staying here. Two of the large rooms on the second floor are directly above the hotel's common area. Unfortunately, there is very little insulation in the floor/ceiling between these two levels. To make matters worse, they serve alcohol in the common area, and there is a full drumset down there (??). Our group went to bed around 10:30pm so we could get up early and get a full day of skiing in. Around 12:00 we were awoken by a group of 15 or so people who had gathered downstairs and were now getting loud. By 12:30 it was clear they weren't leaving soon so I went down there and politely asked them to keep it down, and they kindly replied they would be leaving soon. Half an hour later (1am by this point) they are still there and are now louder. I went back down and asked when they would be quieting down. "Real soon now" they said. Finally around 1:30 they left, apparently they weren't even staying at the hotel. The next day I spoke to the hotel attendant about the noise the night before and asked if we could be relocated to a different room. He said they were fully booked and there were no other available rooms. I asked that he try to make sure things were quiet at night, but he said it's an old building and there isn't much that can be done. However, he gave me a phone extension to dial if there was a problem. That night we returned to the Salt Ash Inn about 9:30, and the large and loud group was again in the common area, along with the hotel attendant that I spoke with earlier. I nodded to him as I walked past, and he acknowledged that I looked concerned about the group being there again. Unfortunately, things weren't much better and we had to call the number at almost 1:00 to complain about the noise. They were even playing the drums around midnight. The number seemed to ring downstairs, and as it rang the noise quickly quieted down. It seems the attendant was still down there as well. As for everything else, breakfast was decent, although they seemed understaffed to handle the number of people there. The wifi was surprisingly fast. There is no cell phone reception at the Salt Ash Inn, but they have landline phones in each room. The showers had good hot water, but very poor water pressure. Bring your own shampoo and wash clothes. Despite the good things about this place, what you are paying for with a hotel or bed and breakfast is a place to sleep. We got much less sleep than we had hoped for, and so I did not feel this place was a good value. If they can solve the noise problems I would probably give it 4 stars, but because I woke up each morning not feeling fully rested the Salt Ash Inn gets 2 stars.

Love the changes, so many upgrades since my last visit. The breakfast was top notch, I especially enjoyed the homemade pancakes and the toad in the hole.

We booked this place paying top dollar for Xmas time having top expectations. But it turned out to be a miserable stay. The place was under construction when we first walked in. Apparently they were recovering from Hurricane Irene which happened about 4 months ago which is ridiculous. The owner of the place did not touch a thing the opening day of the season. So I think it is OK in his view to have guests walking in to their rooms passing through a construction time. Do not expect to have breakfast at time. We were told breakfast starts at 7 am. Forget about it. You are lucky to find anybody in the kitchen before 8 or 9am. And some days nobody shows up at all. The building is so old and noisy. You can literally hear everything happening upstairs and downstairs. Overall, do not go to this place if you are looking for a nice ski vacation.Period.

I booked this for a last minute trip to Killington for MLK weekend. The Inn was purchased by 2 guys from Brooklyn 2 months prior. Although they were very nice, polite, and laid back, they were not staffed or ready to take on a full house. The rooms were very clean, and the bathrooms relatively new and true to a B&B style. The air was very dry and my girl and I woke up with bad sore throats, and knots in our neck and back from the uber sucky pillows and bed. The bar area was cool, with a large fire pit that everyone sat around and watched the playoffs. It did however take 2 and a half hours to get my cheeseburger; there was only 5-6 orders in front of me, and I couldn't think of a reason why this taking was so long, even with 1 burner and 1 grill pan. I was relaxed and not worried, so every time they apologized, I told them it wasn't a problem. I would however, have liked a complimentary pint of the Long Trail on Tap. The young women who was frantic the whole night, running around with all the food orders gave us a basket of fries and onion as an apology; which I didn't eat. The owner/ cook came out and apologized. While I was at the bar, there were 2 couples that asked to see the owner, as to complain about something. Breakfast was OK, but once more when the breakfast area filled, there was not enough food or coffee to go around. 1 pot for 12 people is not going to work. I gave them 3 stars based on fact that they just opened and hopefully will iron out these problems. They are about $40 per night cheaper than the surrounding B&B's. They were really nice people who should have realized their operational limits. Not sure I would go back.

Much like the other review they still seem to be figuring things out. As a place to sleep and spend time out and about, the Salt Ash worked ok for us, but beyond that I can't really give it any other pluses. For the price we were probably better to spend our time at a hotel and just eat breakfast at one of the many places around to dine at.

I stayed at the Salt Ash Inn for a wedding (which booked the entire place) this past summer. I can only speak for myself but I have no complaints. The place was staffed well, the room was clean and comfortable and I did order food and didn't feel the wait was longer than it should have been. The portions were large and though mostly bar food I felt everything was of good quality. They also had a large selection of beer that the wedding group took full advantage of. I will be coming back this winter for ski season.
