The Brown Cow remains on our " Must Stop" list every time we visit the north country. Housed in small quarters, this small hometown diner type eatery has a friendly feel as the staff are fun and quirky. The food does not disappoint, or is it cookie cutter. From real Vermont maple syrup to the homemade doughnuts, the menu surprises and is creative. One must try the breakfast pork chop! So good! I suggest to sit at the counter to live the full experience.

In town on vacation and stopped here and had a WONDERFUL brunch. Had the biscuits and gravvy and couldnt have been more satisfied!

I have eaten at the Brown Cow many times in the past, under the previous owner. I have eaten twice since it changed hands. The atmosphere and decor are much more welcoming now, I have to say I am disappointed in the food. The food is not as good as it used to be. For example, I ordered sausage gravy and biscuit with eggs over easy with whole wheat toast. The toast was barely toasted, although the bread was an excellent homemade. The eggs were fine , but the sausage gravy was an overly salted, gelatinous mess. The biscuits could not stand up to the gravy even though they appeared to be OK. The service is excellent, but the food leaves much to be desired.

We go here to get one of the best breakfast around in town. The portions are generous all the food is very tasty environment is friendly and clean. The owner is very conservative on a political realm and that is always a plus for me.

The owner who I believe is named Ken, is a complete douche. I have walked in there several times with groups of 2-4 people when there were about 20 open seats and he has made us stand there like idiots for 25 minutes while he tries to figure out how to combine tables. He typically stands there with a with a look of shock on his face when we appear to be slighlty confused by the situation. Then is MO is to rudely slam the check down on your table when you are about half way done with your meal. This guy has zero concept of customer service and/or loyalty. I have been coming up to Newport for 20 years and this place has progressively gone downhill due to his attitude. For those of you who want a great breakfast made by wonderful and friendly people who know who to put tables together and count then head up to Roasters in Derby!!!!

Classic diner breakfast made by real people. The waitress was engaging and helpful. The food was good and the prices fair. I would go again.

Two friends and I stumbled upon this great little restaurant in Newport on the way back from skiing in Quebec. Great food (yummy grilled cheese) and great staff. If there is a dessert available ... get the dessert. SOOOOO good.

Very good restaurant. Don't go often at all as we are just under 700 miles away.

Take the Newport Exit! Fantastic. Real, fresh, home-made Americana. If you are visiting this end of the state, this is a must do. If you are consistently under-whelmed by Stars & Stripes enshroud restaurants and Diners claiming to be "real" deals (with one of those ubiquitous, James Dean cardboard life sized cut-outs somewhere on the premises) , you will be MORE than pleasantly surprised. Quality, local ingredients. Unpretentious atmosphere galore. Affordable. Delicious. Gracious folks and a certain Jem to stumble upon in a bucolic America that has largely been left a Sysco-poisoned culinary wasteland thanks to the likes of big-box starch shovelers like Mc D's, Denny's, Horton's, I-Hop, etc. I'm a sucker for house-made doughnuts. Don't be put off by their delicate size: their flavour real-estate is huge. My bet is that you will leave this place with renewed hope for can-do local business and a satisfied gut. Thank you Brown Cow.

Happened in here about 10 minutes from closing this past Sunday. Waitstaff was still willing to seat us, which was great. My roommate had scrambled eggs and hash and I had eggs and toast. The food was great, the staff was friendly (even though we were probably keeping them from going home -- sorry), and we were in and out in 20 minutes flat, without feeling rushed.

Best breakfast in Newport, VT, no doubt. I had the country fried steak and eggs the morning of my wedding and remember it to this day. The digs are modest, small dining room, but the food more than makes up for the spartan setting. I had my entire family in there with me and the staff was very gracious and welcoming. If you are in Newport for breakfast eat at The Brown Cow, but bring something to read because I hear there is a line out the doors on weekends.

A great place for a country-style, old-fashioned breakfast. We make it a point to visit the Brown Cow when we are in town. The kids beg to go. It's a cute little place from the outside. And, it is basically a one-room diner on the interior. Watch out for the crowds, though, people line up to get in, it seems. The staff and owner are very pleasant too, with the owner often taking time to tease the kids. The bottom line is we have a lake house in Newport and this is one of our favorite places to go for breakfast.
