Very interesting place. The food is locally sourced and big kudos for having many options on the crepe material for people w/ food allergies. My partner can't eat hybrid wheat and needs either ancient grain flour (spelt, buckwheat, Farro etc) or the gluten-free kind which is really tasteless! You stand in line and order at the counter which is fine and then they deliver and bus the tables. Very small space and sadly NO internet there. The service workers weren't too friendly so I gave my rating a 3 star. : ( We ordered the buckwheat Lamb Fetatastic crepe which was very good except a little dry inside. The sauce on top was unique (not the Tzaziki sauce I'm used to) but could have used a tad more to moisten inside the crepe. It came with a small side of leafy greens which were yummy. We also ordered a side of hand-cut fries which were yummy and served w/ a choice of sauces for dipping which I chose honey mustard. Loved the fries. Nice selection of local/regional sodas/drinks. Worth another visit for sure.

I absolutely love this place. The food is just delicious and it never gets old. I could eat here all the time. I am a huge fan of the dessert crepes. They also have delicious fries. Its a must place to go. whether you're in burlington or montpelier. totally worth it. the prices aren't bad either and they give you huge portions. if you are a crepe lover, go here. seriously. They also have gluten free options and beer and wine! woohoo!

Things have improved again so I'm gonna give them some well-deserved love: The staffing is uneven at times but generally there is a kinder gentler feel as the Skinny Pancake really settles into our grub community. The food is typically good these days. I still find the crepes a little odd in texture but the fillings really are marvelous. The dessert crepes are often the best dessert in town. They are local local local x 20 so they have a lot of great stuff you can't get everywhere. Rookie's Root Beer, Vermont Artisan Roobios Tea, Wilcox Ice Cream... etc etc. On the downside their pretty cutlery weighs so much that it can set one of their beautiful hand-crafted tables off balance. I definitely work off wrist and finger fat while I eat there.

Great LOCAL FOOD! Supper friendly service! I went to fall foliage trip to Vermont this week and i just found great local food there. I stayed Monpelier inn(very close from skinny pancake) for two nights and went to skinny pancake for two nights! First night we came in hungry and i had "VEGGIE MONSTER" (spinach, roasted red pepper, cheddar cheese and sauteed onions and basil sunflower seed pesto. It was heaven! absolutely delicious! The pesto was just heavenly matched with veggies so i wanted some more other crepes. Everything sounds great! so next day my husband and i had 4 crepes. hahaha~ We had one pulled pork crepe, breakfast monster, sass squash crepe and pure and simple crepe. Everything we had was great especially i love squash crepe it was goat cheese squash puree apple spinach combined. Love the flavor! I want to go back someday! I love Vermont! Thank you skinny pancake!^^

Excellent crepes. Fresh ingredients. And my cousin fell in love with the waitress.

Went here for breakfast on a Sunday morning, and it was quite the experience. I had the breakfast monster, my brother had Noah's ark, and my father had the atlantic monster, they were all outstanding.

I admit...I don't know enough about crepes to really be an expert reviewer of them. That being said, I've been to the Skinny Pancake a couple of times when is the area for business...I've found their selections to be a bit overwhelming, and indeed a bit intimidating. My first visit was in the morning, while on my to NY, so I appropriately got the breakfast monster...normally I am not a fan of pesto, howvever the sunflower basil pesto is very good, and they don't just slop it on...very nice balance with the egg, bacon, cheese, and vegetables. My second visit I was on my way home from a meeting in Richmond, and ordered a sass-squash buckwheat crepe. Very good, and very balanced..the Skinny Pancake is a great place to try the great produce that the area has to offer, all in one place. Also they have poutine on the menu, however, I don't know if I could eat a whole order myself and not be ashamed.

Great food, horrific customer service. I had stayed far away from The Skinny Pancake (Montpelier) for a while, after a number of visits that resulted in terrible service - a "side" of fries that consisted of half a dozen actual french fries, their red-eyed and cloudy headed kitchen staff forgetting an order after sitting in the restaurant for an hour, etc. I decided to give 'em another shot, figuring that they likely had some staff turnover in the past several months. Well, it would appear they've had some turnover, but not for the better. After explicitly ordering a vegan crepe, reviewing that I have a severe food allergy to dairy/eggs, and then repeatedly reviewing this information with the staff who took my order, I returned home with my take-out to find that my crepe was lathered in mayonnaise. Sure, accidents happen, but this is far from an isolated incident with The Skinny Pancake, in my experience. This is a restaurant that advertises the word vegan on their windows, and yet doesn't seem to pay much attention to an issue that can result in severe gastrointestinal distress for folks like myself. Upon calling to ask them to rectify the situation, I encountered a staff member who frequently made reference to the fact that this was other people's fault, rather than simply trying to fix the situation. When I asked if they had a delivery driver who could drop off my original order, to replace this mayo-bathed crepe, I was laughed at. I was spoken over when I tried to answer the staff's questions, or ask questions myself. When I asked the staff to please stop talking over me, so that I could answer the question and put an end to the call, I was lectured. In the end, it took far too long to arrive at the simple solution of them mailing a refund to me. Perhaps The Skinny Pancake should reevaluate their place in the community, and take into perspective that they are here to serve their customers - rather than frustrate and belittle them for having a food allergy.

Seriously yummy food! Poutine, crepe-a-dilla, hard cider! OH la la, TASTY! More than the great food, the locally sourced food, beverages...really gives a good taste and feel of Vermont at it's best.

I could've eaten everything here. Seriously. Everything sounded delicious. I had a savory crepe of sausage, cheddar cheese, apple slices, with Vermont maple syrup with a side salad. Partner had the veggie crepe. So good! There's a breakfast menu, our lunches were from the savory menu, and they have a dessert menu. If I visited this quaint town again, I would definitely come back here. Or if I lived here, I would have to eat my way through their whole menu.

This place surprised me. Generous sized "skinny pancakes" filled with local ingredients, reasonable prices, beer and wine selection and quick service. Oh, and the best part (for me anyway), gluten free option! All in all, Skinny Pancake gets my vote.

My friend and I randomly (okay, we got lost...) visited Montpelier on our way home from Canada and absolutely loved the entire downtown. The Skinny Pancake stood out amongst the restaurants and we decided to get our crepe on. Huge list of crepes to pick from! In fact, I didn't even notice the first board that listed such cool items as poutine because I was trying to decide between three crepes. My friend wanted the lamb crepe but they were sold out which was a bummer. They had my apple crisp crepe and he ended up getting one of the breakfast crepes. Delicious. They were also out of apple cider. We were there later in the afternoon so my guess is the earlier you go then the better odds they will have your crepe. Seating was nice. Felt very rustic. We drank water out of metal cups which I thought was a nice touch. Prices were reasonable and the staff very friendly. Kind of noisy but there was a table packed with about 8 people right behind us. Plenty of outdoor seating too. If I find myself downtown again, then I think I will definitely stop by and this time try the poutine!

I had never thought Montpelier a place I would want to live in, but The Skinny Pancake has come close to changing my mind. I stopped here on a Monday afternoon while wandering through the city. On the recommendation of the cashier, I ordered a Johnny crepe and my friend got the veggie crepe. They were both unbelievably delicious- and, I might add, inexpensive considering the amount of food and the focus on local and organic ingredients. Next time I'm in Vermont, this place is on the top of my list to visit!

Crepes are yummy, let's not lie to ourselves. This place, recently taking over where the beloved Ben & Jerry's used to be, is busy. With several wood tables and outdoor seating it's not uncommon to see this place packed. We had a large group with us and it only took a few minutes for a table to clear. Their ordering system is pretty nifty, too. You go to the counter, select your order and they'll give you a number to put on your table. That way, when your food comes out any of the staff can bring it right to the table, no need to wait for the waitstaff! They've got a wide variety of choices and serve breakfast all day long, which gets automatic bonus points from me. I love how they have field greens on the side with the more savory crepes and that the portions are not out of this world huge like some other places. The prices aren't horrible, but it's not without good reason that it might seem higher than it could potentially be at other places. This spot utilizes area farms and goes organic everywhere they can while doing it locally which is fantastic! Not an easy feat in these trying times. P.S. try the ham, vermont cheddar, and apples crepe! its soooo good! and any of their desserts :) I had the Atlantic Monster (smoked salmon, spinach, eggs, and a spinach artichoke cream cheese).

This place is excellent! We had a delicious lunch here - probably the culinary highlight of our weekend in Vermont. We had the lamb fetatastic and garlique chic crepes and enjoyed them both immensely. The best crepes I'ce ever had for sure. We had a little wait to place our order, because the place seems pretty popular.

So disappointing after having eaten first in Burlington. The buckwheat crepe was dry and the Dawn Beet crepe I tried was just not very good. This version of the Skinny Crepe is significantly smaller than its Burlington sister, and the service, not so great. Don't try to use your American Express card here: we were told they shouldn't have taken it in Burlington ( and the gentleman who was functioning as the cashier told my companion he would make sure they wouldn't take it again in Burlington). We were so hungry after our lunch order, we got the Choco Monkey, but it was not available in the gluten free version, so I wasn't able to sample the crepe part. The garbanzo bean crepe was not available here, so no vegan options. We both agreed, we would definitely go back to Burlington's version of the Skinny Pancake, but not here.

We came here 2 times over the past summer! We had gotten hungry and wanted a snack! So we came here for something sweet and light! As you walk in you will see that its small and normally busy! We did get sat both times pretty quickly. They also came and took our orders quickly as well. The server was always friendly and took care of our needs. The food here is awesome! We had gotten the love maker. This was VERY yummy! It has nutella and strawberries in it. A combo that is GREAT together! Also tried the heart breaker. Same items inside with chocolate. So pending on your sweet tooth I can recommend both! For the crates your gonna be set back around $7. Not to bad. We always ended up sharing because they are pretty good size. So its not too heavy. The only thing I didn't like was the live music. We had gone one night and sat inside. The guys playing the music were playing WAY to loud! So we just sit outside when we go now. Other than that the place is great. Plus its next to the water front. So its nice to be in that area at night after your done! Go walk off the food you just ordered! Good 4/5

My wife and I ate here while we were driving through Montpelier. What a wonderful little place! The server/cashier was friendly. The menu was extensive. The food was so fresh and tasty. I could sense the care and thought that went onto designing the restaurant and its menu. Seems somebody or some people really care about this establishment. This restaurant is part of the Vermont Fresh program so most or all of their ingredients are Vermont-sourced and as local as possible. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would recommend this place to anybody in the area. Good to find local gems like this through Yelp.

I had my first-ever Skinny Pancake experience today. My mom and I grabbed some yummy lunch :) We both had the Strawberry Short Crepes and they were delicious! There was only 1 other person there so we only had to wait a few short minutes for our crepes. Our drinks were brought out well before that - the second our butts touched the chairs :) I didn't give 5 stars because of the waitress. She was extremely nice and the service was great. However, the shirt/dress/whatever she was wearing was so low that I could see, uh, EVERYTHING. Not exactly what I needed to whet my appetite. My semi-conservative mother didn't appreciate it either.

This place is so good I forgave them for forgetting the bacon from my order. Seriously, it's that delicious. They use some pretty darn good and fresh local ingredients. The crepemakers were also really good at what they're doing. It feels like an upscale creperie since they serve everything in really fancy dishes and with really really fancy silverware. But the prices were pretty reasonable; the most expensive thing I saw was a yak crepe that was ten bucks. They do serve lots of coffee drinks and have four (pretty good local) beers on tap. Being not a fan of coffee and a driver who just stopped by for lunch I had neither. But I'm very happy that they do serve these things. I had a pesto breakfast crepe. I thought given the nature of pesto and crepes that the thing would collapse the second I cut into it. Not true. It held together thanks to the sturdiness of the crepe (it was really sturdy) and the organic Vermont cheese. It was absolutely delicious and yes, even though they left out the bacon I was still very very happy. The seating is their biggest problem. They don't have many tables so there could be a wait for seats. The one I sat at was a little uneven but it was still pretty good. The wait for crepes is a little long but I think it was reasonable since it was packed and they had free wifi. The service was above average and certainly very friendly. I'm pretty sure that next time I stop by Montpelier I'll come back again...

DELICIOUS. I only wish I lived in the area so I could eat here all the time. The place is small, but it has a nice quiet atmosphere, and the staff are super friendly. We had the veggie crepe, with mozzarella, spinach, tomato, and peppers, which was like a mini pizza with a thin crust, absolutely fantastic, as was the apple and brie crepe with apple and cranberry chutney. I was in HEAVEN. They also had a nice selection of local beers as well as hard cider, which we had. A fantastic little place.

Stumbled across this place looking for a kid-friendly bite to eat on a late Sunday afternoon. The crepes were delicious, but the salad was out of this world...local means amazingly fresh ingredients, at least during summer! The place was a little small, so I could see it being a bit tight during a meal time or in winter.

Just stopped by here on my way home from the Vermont Cheese Festival. My friend got the Dawn Beet, a savory crepe with beets and blue cheese. I got the vegan crepe with seitan, caramelized onions, sauteed mushrooms, and pesto. Everything was delicious!! It was fresh and LOCAL which was a big draw. Oh and they also sell bottled drinks by a company called Vermont Sweetwater. We tried Maple Seltzer, which is just carbonated sap with no added water. Apparently maple syrup is very condensed, but the raw sap is quite watery. It was delicious. I wish they sold it in Boston, but the draw of VT is all the local products... Anyway everything looked great and I definitely want to come back and try the other crepes. They have meat, cheese, and egg crepes, but we were so full of cheese from this afternoon, we just couldn't bring ourselves to eat them. Oh, and they have French fries - russet and sweet potato, and you can get pesto mayo dipping sauce... Mmm.

The worst experience I have had here is I went to grab a "quick" dinner before a work meeting. I ran out the door without checking my order. I got back to my office with 5 minutes to eat before the meeting was going to start. I had ordered the "pooh bear" which is basically just a crepe with sugar and honey in it. Pretty simple. I had them add bananas, as well. (I had ordered this about 5 times before- cost 7 bucks) I cut into the crepe to see black mush oozing out of my crepe. I was like what the truck is that?!?!?!? Upon further inspection, I realized that it was rotten, I mean, cut up bananas slices that have been in the compost in 80 degree humid weather for a week, rotten. I am not kidding. Since the meeting was about to start, I had no choice but to triple wrap this composting "dinner" and go to my meeting hungry. By the time the meeting was over, the Skinny Pancake was closed. I decided two weeks later to give it another go, I told the cashier (either dumb as bricks or high as a kite, your guess!) about the rotten bananas and that I'd like to talk to a manager. A manager never came out even though I waited 30 minutes for my $17.00 crepe to come out. I had ordered a crepe with a slight mod. to it. The woman (no idea what her role there was...) who always sits at the order window with a laptop, got my order and came to give it to me. She proceeded to go back and forth with me on what my order was actually called... like it mattered, which I finally concluded. I think they are too proud of their "clever" crepe names just to admit it's was just a tickin' pancake with cheese and apples in it that I ordered..... But, no instead you are made to order by silly names like "brownies in bed for 2" Sure the names might give you a laugh but all in all, the names distract people who are new the place. I am certain it takes them 10 minutes longer to decide what to order as well. My advice is this: if you have money and time to blow, try this place out. Please, for your sake if you take it to go, check inside the crepe to make sure it is cooked properly and/or not rotten like mine was. If you want to eat in, there might not be any tables. There might be one man on a laptop who ate his food an hour ago who is nursing a beer taking up a table for 5- don't think he will actually acknowledge you if you try to ask him to move. Don't expect the staff there to clean a table for you, remove old dishes/ half eaten food from a table so you may sit there. Better still, don't plan to have a sit down dinner there at all. Also, the "dessert crepes" are a far better choice than the meat/ veggie crepes. Yes they all sound delish... but trust, they most likely will not live up to their silly clever names and claim for fresh, local food. Or just don't go to this place at all and let it close it's door and have the owner scratch his head as to what went wrong? After all it did earna "daysies" first place several years in a row... but that was the one located in Burlington, if I am not mistaken and I am reviewing the Montpelier eatery.

I love the Skinny Pancake. I only get to visit twice a year due to living in New Hampshire but I frequent Goddard College, so during residencies we always go to the skinny pancake. I've had several dishes from here and have never been disappointed. My favorites include the Eggs Fetatastic, Spinach and feta crepe, and the Heartbreaker smoothie. They have an excellent menu with good prices and lattes. I love the savory crepes but intend to try the sweet ones on my next visit. The last visit I had the Eggs Fetatastic and my partner had the Pesto and cheese crepe. Both were excellent and came with a light salad on the side with great dressing that complimented the crepes well. Service has always been good, and I like that they use local ingredients as much as possible. The iced coffee was also good, a great alternative to places like Dunkin' Donuts (Eww). The location is nice, adjacent to a shopping center with local artists' work and the La Brioche bakery.

A mecca for slow food lovers, local food activists, and vegetarians alike. If it's fresh and local, they will wrap it in a crepe and serve it to you! Everything homemade. Great local cheeses. I had a vegan crepe which I thought might taste like cardboard topped with sawdust, but the flavorful roasted peppers and the in-house seitan were so tasty. Food that makes you feel good. Best in summer so you can sit outside. Inside is kind of dank and can be crowded. Innovative place doing good stuff with the edibles!

  • Miki W.

I've learned that it's a given that pretty much all restaurants in VT have vegetarian options on their menu ( and Skinny Pancake has tons of veggie options!), but I have also learned that around these parts, it's somewhat of a sacrilege not to throw some cow dairy into every dish. So, I was glad to see they make a point of having a blatantly vegan crepe option! Crepes are not something I get to eat often, so I really enjoyed my savory crepe with the veggies and wonderful seitan inside. Also, this place seems super concerned with using locally sourced food, which I give them credit for, even if it's animal products that I personally don't eat, I still respect the local ethics.

  • Lilee N.

Cute and quaint. Crepes themselves were a bit thick to be a "crepe" but we were in the middle of nowhere and this was good considering our limited options. The ingredients for the fillings are fresh and everything is made to order.

I was really disappointed with this place. I had high expectations, given the local/fresh stuff they touted on their menu. I ordered the Noah's Ark and sat down to wait. And wait. And wait. It took forever for the meal to come. When it did, I thought, "man, it had better be good after a wait like that. Nope. I thought I'd asked for the eggs over EASY, not overCOOKED. The yolks were rock hard. The bacon wasn't bad, but then, it's kind of hard to really screw up bacon. The "frumple cakes" were cold (actually, nothing on the plate was really good and hot), and they were NOT topped with powdered sugar and cinnamon as I was led to believe they would be. So, my verdict: blah. Next time I'm in Montpelier, I'll go elsewhere for brunch, no matter how long the line looks.

I love you Skinny Pancake, with your wonderfully innovative menu, and your many vegetarian entries. Keep up the good work! Next time I'm in Vermont I'll try the Burlington location. See you then!

This is one occasion I am glad I didn't read anything on Yelp about this place before I came. I just ate the best meal I've had out here since moving to New England. Unless this establishment is really inconsistent, I have no idea what the other reviewers are talking about. Sure, the place could use a little more space but the food was awesome. The ingredients were really fresh and tasty. I ate the Breakfast Monster with bacon and everything was balanced perfectly, all the flavors matched. My crepe was not undercooked at all. It was the perfect size. It was just great. Literally, after the first bite I looked at my wife and asked her if this was the best food we'd had since moving out here. She agreed. I find it interesting that another reviewer mentioned Crepevine in San Francisco because that's exactly what my wife and I were comparing this place to. We used to live down the street from it. There are a lot of difference, sure, but they both use local, fresh, great ingredients. Does it cost a bit? Sure. Each crepe was about $8. Out the door it was $25 drinks and tip included. If we're ever in the area again, we'll be coming back. Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Cleanliness: 4/5 Price: 4/5 P.S. Their latte leaves much to be desired. That's ok, I didn't expect much.

After recently moving to New England, this is one of the closest things I have found to the healthy yet still delicious food on the West Coast. The veggie monster crepe was outstanding, and the service was friendly and prompt. If I didn't live 3 hours away, I would be a frequent customer.

Great crepes, awesome local food. We had 2 fantastic crepes, 1 mediocre crepe and fried soft shell crab. Garlique Chic was highly recommended, carmelized onions, pesto, Cabot cheddar... Veggie crepe was tasty too. The lamb crepe was a bit dry but otherwise we'd recommend the place. Our biggest complaint was the awkward silverware.

CELIACS BEWARE. I found the Skinny Pancake by doing a search for restaurants with gluten-free options in Montpelier. The menu offers gluten-free batter alternatives for their crepes. I ordered one for my 5-year-old son who has celiac disease. When ordering food in restaurants I typically ask that his meal be prepared on a separate, clean surface. Unfortunately, and this was my mistake, I assumed that "gluten free" on the menu meant that the food really was gluten free. When I went back to order a second crepe I realized that I had forgotten to ask if the "gluten free" crepes were cooked on a separate surface and the response I got was, "well, how sensitive are you?" The employee then told me that they were not. I gave him a brief explanation of celiac disease and the havoc that even a miniscule amount of gluten can wreak on the digestive tract of a celiac sufferer. He responded that they do not have enough space to use one of their griddles exclusively for gluten-free crepe batter. I suggested that they either make room for a separate griddle or remove the term "gluten free" from the menu. Given the cavalier attitude toward cooking on separate surfaces, I wonder if the "gluten-free" batter is in fact contaminated with gluten during or after preparation in the kitchen.

Good lord, this place is slow as shite!!! Holy cow, they're killing me. Food was decent, girl working there wasn't particularly friendly. Got the special and found I was still quite hungry afterwards. It had mint, local strawberries and Ricotta. I'd try this place again, hopefully things would go a little quicker.

My family and I stopped here on our way back to Maryland from a vacation in Vermont. There were 5 of us - 2 adults and 3 children. We placed our order (which came to almost $60!! - VERY steep for breakfast, but if the food is good, I don't mind paying) and took a seat. All of the tables had dirty dishes on them, so we scooted the dirty cups to then end of the table, hoping that someone would pick them up. A few minutes later 2 of our dishes were brought out (dirty dishes still on the table). We got up and searched for our own silverware and found some on a side table near the front that also had a big jug of maple syrup on it. I cut into mine and it was not what I ordered. My son went to the front to put some syrup on his (his order was a dry crepe with sliced strawberries and a little bit of whipped cream on the side slapped onto a plate) and the server came and told him that he needs to pay a dollar if he wants syrup and then snatched his plate out of his hand, since they had brought us the wrong order. A little later they brought the two of us the correct plates and a man brought a small serving of syrup to my son and told him (not me, he told a child) that he will need to "settle up" before we leave. My crepe was filled with brie, apples and ham - it was delicious (but I didn't get to enjoy it since it was really the only good food that were received, in the end, and everyone else at the table ended up eating mine). The other 3 members of our party still had no food. A few minutes later, another plate of food was brought out to my husband - a dry, tasteless crepe with diced apple and maybe a little cinnamon. Finally, my other 2 children received their food. They both ordered Noah's Ark. The eggs were pretty good, the bacon was burned and was so hard that it was not edible and the crepes were dry, but at least these came with free syrup to douse them in. Beside the fact that the food at this place left a lot to be desired and was WAY too expensive for what we got, I can't believe how rude the staff at this restaurant was! To snatch a plate of of a child's hand and then demand a dollar from him is behavior that I would never expect in a restaurant. It's also a little strange to not bring all of the food to a table at the same time. We will never return to this restaurant and since you might have to go to another place to eat after you eat here like we did - I'd recommend that you just skip this place and save yourself some time and a lot of money. There are better places to eat that are much less expensive.

I had only eaten at the Skinny Pancake in Burlington once or twice, but that was enough for me to know that Montpelier was more than lucky to be getting their own location downtown. Its no lie that these guys have the art of crepe making down. You can even watch them through the glass counter, hand making each crepe. From savory to sweet, to the spinach artichoke dip there isn't a thing I've tasted at the skinny pancake that I wouldn't order time and time again. There is one crepe that has VT Smoke and Cure Italian Sausage, apples and cheddar with maple syrup and that was a winner for sure. The heartbreaker, which I believe has bananas, strawberries, nutella, and whipped cream is an amazing end to any night. The crepe chips they serve with the FANTASTIC spinach artichoke dip are crunchy and sturdy enough for the dip. the dip itself is full of artichoke hearts, cream cheese, garlic and spinach. its got tons of flavor, and was without a doubt one of my favorite things to eat..ever!

ordered Deja Vu and Lamb Fetatastic. Deja Vu was much more familiar (duh) and the lamb was novel and exciting. Summary: okay price, good speed and service. Very good food. Would reccommend. The decor is nice, I enjoyed eating inside, they also have great looking outdoor seating. The produce elements were all fresh tasting and pleasing. The two types of sausages were both well cooked and flavorful. One of mine came with maple syrup at no extra charge, another customer wanted syrup and it cost a dollar.

Came here based on the Yelp reviews and had the best meal of our time in Vermont. I had the breakfast monster, it was phenomenal. My wife equally enjoyed the crepe Monsieur. If it's cool, get the Maple Latte, if warm enjoy an iced coffee with a dash of maple syrup. Food is all locally sourced and the staff was friendly, efficient, and gracious (this was even during a crowded Mother's Day). Absolutely worth the visit.

We came on a Saturday right after they opened. Had a breakfast burrito (which was really tastey) and a cup of coffee. I really appreciate the sustainability values they have in the heart of Montpelier. There needs to be more restaurants like this one!!

I thoroughly enjoyed The Skinny Pancake! I'm predisposed towards French and Quebecois food in general, so am not completely unbiased here, but I found the food here to be fresh, delicious, and memorable......and that's about all you can ask of a restaurant these days! I had the "Garlique Chic" savory crepe: which contained Misty Knoll chicken, pesto spread, roasted red peppers, caramelized onions and Cabot white cheddar and it was so flavorful and nicely presented! The chef used each ingredient in just the right proportion so that none of the flavors were so overpowering that you weren't able to taste the others. The fresh greens which accompanied the crepe were drizzled with a subtle maple vinaigrette, and paired well with the dish. My girlfriend ordered the "Breakfast Monster" (egg, Cabot white cheddar, baby spinach, caramelized onions, roasted red peppers, bacon, and basil-sunflower seed pesto) and thoroughly enjoyed it, as well. I would gladly come back here anytime I was even remotely in the area and would recommend it to anyone visiting the general region and / or passing through for a quick bite en route to Montreal (Montpelier is right off Exit 8 of I-89, after all!). I would love to try the Crepe Monsieur and Apples & Brie w/ Ham crepes, the Poutine, as well as some of their sweeter dessert offerings, so will definitely be returning. The only downside of this establishment is that I felt the price was slightly disproportionate to the amount of food you received. However, I can assure you that every ingredient tasted fresh and they tend to source locally, so that is to be expected, I guess. French cuisine tends to involve smaller portions than American cuisine, in general, so maybe that was it, too. This really wasn't a big issue though....considering I don't know how to make crepes myself and have yet to find authentic crepes near where I live, I don't mind paying a $1-2 premium for the novelty of a well-prepared French crepe. Ideally, I'd give The Skinny Pancake 4.5 stars for this reason, but am rating it a 5 to (hopefully) bump the average above 4.

The Skinny Pancake is a Vermont institution, and it is really great. The staff was attentive, alert, and helpful. The food was flavorful and fresh, but I had one complaint. My lamb crepe came with no sort of binding sauce inside it, so the filling was spilling everywhere. There was a small amount of tzatziki sauce on top, but if it was inside, binding the ingredients together, it would have been amazing. Otherwise, it was great. Good place.

Best food I had in Montpelier for a whole month. I loved the buckwheat crepe! Thank you. I want to try to make them when I get home.

Just stopped here to eat on our way through vt from ny. Prices are high for very average food. Bacon seemed to be great quality but reheated and tasteless by the time it got to me. Crepes were a bit undercooked and also very little flavor. With all the other options for good local food in the area be sure to skip this one

We kind of stumbled upon this place, as we were looking for somewhere quick to eat Montpelier. It was a quaint little place, with a good atmosphere, and great food. And my wife particularly liked the irregular mugs.

Ate here after a long morning of tourist stuff - hiking a waterfall & stopping for ice cream at Ben & Jerry's. We were starving for a late lunch. Happily we fixed our low blood sugar problem at The Skinny Pancake. We picked several different choices - lumberjack, feta & spinach & apple & Brie. Each selection was large, filling & delicious. We were happy with our choices & hopefully will get another chance to stop here.

The Atlantic Monster. A local egg, smoked salmon, baby spinach, scallions, and spinach-artichoke cream cheese. This was the best crepe I've ever had. I don't know what they're doing to their food in Vermont, but food there is completely different. Everything seems to be farm-to-table and not that "HEY EVERYBOY LOOK WE'RE GETTING OUR SHIT FROM A FARM". You will drive right past the damn farm you're getting your food from and you won't even know it in Vermont. I can't say enough about how impressed I am about this crepe I was. I will literally compare every crepe I have forever to this one. The combination of the ingredients with a prefectly cooked egg (still with a oozing yolk to be perfectly soaked up by the crepe) was incredible. you. can. taste. every. god. damn. ingredient. so distinctly. If I ever get to stop by in Montpelier again, I will be sure to make a stop to The Skinny Pancake.

The crepes were spongy and soggy, but the fillings were quite tasty. Nutella, banana, and strawberries were a good combination. The Big Atlantic was a decent alternative to a bagel and lox My frumple was lacking much flavor and was not what I ordered. This place is highly rated and popular. We must have caught them on a bad day. .

Recently I participated in a crepes spree that spanned over three days in a row. After eating crepes in Québec City and Montréal the Skinny Pancake was the third stop on my tour. Frankly my visits weren't planned at all, but I happened to come across these places by chance and I just happened to be on a crepes kick at the time. Believe it or not, the Skinny Pancake was the best of the bunch. (That's right, good old American-made verses French Canadian-made). Yup, their maple syrup crepe was very good. Maybe that's because they used real Vermont maple syrup. Coincidentally, the previous day I got a maple syrup crepe in Montréal and those guys were stingy with their maple syrup. The Skinny Pancake guys weren't stingy at all. So kudos to them because I know maple syrup don't come cheap. Their root beer on tap was pretty good too. And I loved the location and the set-up of the restaurant. Their location is right in the heart of Montpelier. I hadn't been in Montpelier in years and it was nice to see the downtown area bustling with lots of people and activity.

So it's breakfast time. You're hungry. That much is clear. What's *not* clear is whether you want something sweet or something savory. Those pancakes sound so good, but you feel like you want some eggs and bacon too. Can you order all of the things in some stackable configuration? Maybe, but will the staff judge you? How much extra will they charge for that? Do you care? Before you know it, you're curled up in a fetal position in the car mumbling incoherently about what could have been. ...Ahem. So you could have that struggle, or you could just go to the Skinny Pancake and order the crêpe monsieur. They'll sort it allll out for you. There will be an egg with salty (in a good way!) ham and cheddar, swaddled in a sweet crêpe. You'll want to add some maple syrup too. Obviously. They'll even give you a fresh, locally-sourced side salad so that you feel virtuous and fancy, like you're the kind of person that buys Lululemon yoga pants and then actually follows through by attending a yoga class. If you're feeling a different kind of fancy-athletic, like some sort of farmer/scholar/hiker hybrid, the breakfast monster might be the way to go. There's that egg and cheddar again, but this time with caramelized onions and peppers and pesto and spinach too. ...I know. I know. It's like the best, most delicious short story you've ever read. You want to go to there.

Really great spot in downtown Montpelier! You order and pay at the counter first and then find a table, they'll bring the food to you and take your plates away. The people there are so nice and patient (which is helpful because you'll need a lot of time to look over the whole menu). I got the Breakfast Monster which was very filling and came with a nice little side salad. But I think the best part was the side of sweet potato fries we got. The person at the cashier recommended we get the pesto mayo as a dipping sauce which ended up being super good. If possible, definitely try and grab a seat in their outdoor dining area. Must visit!

A big menu with lots of crepe choices, a good beer selection, all for decent prices. I'm assuming the ingredients are high quality too. As for the crepes, they weren't bad. A bit thicker than I'm used to, closer to a pancake, but I definitely enjoyed my breakfast crepe (already forget which one I ordered) as a lunch. Who doesn't want breakfast all day anyway?! In other words, if you're looking for crepes, stop by. It'll be worth the visit.

Inventive crepes of every kind with delicious local ingredients. Deja Vu was delightful. Sausage, apples, fennel, cheese. Yum! Lamb was outstanding with feta and tzadziki Kids had sweet crepes with Nutella, bananas and strawberries. One crepe each was just the right amount to hit the spot. Not a huge place so better for parties of 4 or smaller. Great location right in adorable downtown area. I'm detouring through Montpelier just to hit this place again.

Wow! What a disappointment this location is to the Skinny Pancake brand! As a Burlington native, quite familiar with their waterfront, church street, and even airport locations, I convinced my mother this would be well worth the stop. Boy, was I wrong. Now, I'm no mathematician but I'm pretty sure that if crepes are quick enough to make to open up a location at the airport, it shouldn't take very long to receive them, right? Wrong! We waited over 50 minutes from when we placed our order to when it arrived. This location took 5 times as long as their other locations. If I were the owner of a restaurant running those type of ticket times, I would be utterly ashamed! But, the fun has only just begun. My crepe sat under a heat lamp so long that the whipped cream melted and the crepe came out more like burnt pita bread. I could literally crack it into two halves. They skimped on the Nutella and Strawberries. And my Mother enjoyed mostly cranberry sauce in her crepe, with minimal Bree and bland, out of season apples. Of course hers too also came wrapped in a burnt crepe. Why try something if you're not going to give it a serious shot? Now, where are the 5 staff members in all this you may ask? Just chilling behind the counter, with 1 person taking orders, another cooking, and the remaining 3 taking turns running plates and prepping silverware. Where was the hospitality to greet guests and offer to help them find a spare seat? Or open up the second register? Or hop behind the line and help move some orders through? At the very least, I should have received an apology from my food was finally delivered or even just some simple recognition of the time I waited. I'd still like to say I'm a believer in the skinny pancake franchise, but after this visit, I'll be waiting a while before daring to trust this brand again!

A quick search on Yelp in the Montpelier area brought us to The Skinny Pancake for a roadtrip lunch. I wasn't feeling great, so I opted for the Lemon Classic crepe. It was light and airy and completely fulfilled my sweet craving without a sugar bomb in my mouth. My boyfriend had The Lumberjack (ham and cheese crepe) and he also loved it. Service was slow for two crepes on a not-so-busy Sunday afternoon. The prices were great, though.

Stopped into Montpelier on the way to Montreal for lunch, and stumbled into the skinny pancake due to its high ratings on yelp. They were spot on - excellent fresh foods all placed in crepes, or a panini. Perfect portion sizes and a reasonable price. I had the "Blues for Breakfast" which was cheddar, ham and blue cheese in a crepe. The ham was delicious - not cold cuts. The small salad greens on the side were excellent because of the dressing. Certainly recommended.

omg YES Lunch here was incredible - I loved my chicken/cranberry/spinach/cheese crepe!! The crepe tasted so fresh, and was huge but I couldn't stop eating! It was lovely to sit outdoors on their patio, too.

We decided to visit Montpelier as a part of trying to get to all fifty states (with Capitals as a bonus!) so we went without really making plans for any particular restaurant. We parked down by the Capital and started walking with our dog. We realized pretty quickly that many restaurants in Montpelier (at least downtown) didn't want our lab mix outside on their patio, citing "health codes". I went in to The Quirky Pet to ask if there were any restaurants in the area that allowed dogs on the patio. The owner suggested "The Skinny Pancake", as she had seen dogs there before. I was so excited to find a place that would accommodate our dog that we didn't really know what they served. (We were hungry!) So it was a plus that this place had excellent food! I did not know that crepes could be used to make delicious hot sandwich style food. My husband got the greek-style lamb with feta and tzadziki and, to make up for him eating lamb, I got the locally sourced vegetarian-spinach, red peppers and caramelized onions with added mushrooms. :) It was not only the perfect temperature, but the veggies were cooked exactly right. We also split a dessert crepe with Nutella, bananas, strawberries and whipped cream. I love that they used locally-sourced food as much as possible and were very creative in the use of crepes. Five stars!

Serious crepes my friends! VERY VT, left wingish, new agey, tree hugn, berkensokn approach to food - you can spell and pronounce everything in your meal. Served with down-to-earth human spirit, food is good for your body, and the good vibrations GREAT for your soul. And if you know beer... they serve Heady Topper! They pride themselves in serving meals created with local sources, only the best makes it - like locally made lamb sausage, Morse Farms Decadent MAPLE SYRUP. I went with a veggy crepe, and the hub went with the lamb and feta deliciousness. Sonny boy had "pizza in a crepe" (their calzone) AND a traditional, just because he felt like having a maple syrup drenched basic crepe. DELICIOUS! Pay at the counter and sit yourself, the local is small, friendly and clean. Couldn't ask for more! (Ok, I could, another stomach and no dieting, so I could indulge in one of their dessert offerings!! Something with chocolate, strawberries, bananas and a whopping dose of whipped cream!)

Good food, but for me I thought it was way over priced for what I was eating. For two people for breakfast/early lunch somehow we had managed to spend over $40. I was not overly impressed and will not be going back. Go to a diner and get some pancakes instead

The crepes were pretty good, and the service was great. Had the breakfast monster with bacon, which was my favorite, and the heartbreaker (Nutella, strawberry and banana). The breakfast monster is just that - stuffed with Cabot cheese, spinach, caramelized onions, red pepper and a fried egg. The heartbreaker was a little bit lackluster - maybe it's just because the fruit really thins out the chocolate concentration, but it just didn't quite do it for me. My boyfriend got the breakfast burrito, which comes with eggs, black beans, cheese and bacon (extra charge) wrapped in a crepe. He liked it, but thought the $13 charge was a bit steep for what he got. As a local sourcer, the higher price kind of comes with the territory since you're getting top-of-the line organic and local ingredients, which is something I respect. Montpelier is such a cute little town, and we sat outside on the patio to enjoy our breakfast. Definitely recommend for a quick bite when you're in the area!

Hipster crepes! Eh, not really. More like casual crepes. This is a pleasant place to stop, especially if you're driving through. Crepes are good, service is fast and efficient, and price point is excellent. Hot crepes and coffee are a nice warm refuge on some cold winter days in Montpelier.

Vegetarian? Vegan? Gluten-free? Yes. Yes. Yes...and some of the best pulled pork I've had in a loooong time! Large menu with options for pretty much anyone. With the level of organic, local ingredients this cafe promotes I trust it too. Good times!

Found this place via Yelp while driving home to CT from Stowe. Nice place for lunch, and loads of delicious things to choose from. If I lived closer, I would be a regular! The only problem was that our kids didn't love the texture of their crepes. They said the taste was good, but the grilled cheese crepe's cheese got very gummy as it cooled, and the pizza crepe's sauce was very runny. Overall, though, big thumbs up!

Came here a week ago and walked away having mixed feelings. The location is great, there's a nice patio with umbrellas and free wifi available. The selection of crepes is good, all of which use local ingredients. Came across as kind of a hipster place, which is fine but the people working there had very flat affect and were neither friendly nor unfriendly. The water was room temperature which was kind of weird. My sister and I split the calzone crepe and it was pretty terrible. It was basically ricotta cheese and arugula, and that's it. There was supposed to be a marinara sauce as well but it was almost undetectable. My parents, however, ordered a crepe with root beer pulled pork I believe, and that was tasty. So I guess it depends on what you order. Regardless there wasn't much filling in either, they could've been a lot more generous. Then we had a brownie dessert crepe and that was very good too. I don't know that I would necessarily come back here if I was visiting the area again, but they've got a nice concept and location going for them. They just need to work on food quality and service and they could be a lot better.

It was my 1st time having crepes for breakfast and I liked it. I didn't have the sweet & fruity ones though because I wasn't ready for the sweet ones yet so I had the eggs, spinach, olive & feta cheese crepe. It was delicious. This place looks like a hipster's hang-out with cool alternative music pumping out of the loud speakers & social awareness posters on the walls

A gorgeous sunny day in Montpelier, after visiting the State House we decided to walk to lunch and that place was the Skinny Pancake. A creperie that has a VAST selection of crepes, craft beers and fondue, it was hard not to try this place. My sons gravitated towards the nutella crepes since they had not had them since Germany and I spotted their veggie monster (they also have a vegan monster.) We sat outside and waited for our crepes to come out. We once again fell silent, the crepes were nice and fluffy and the fillings of spinach, roasted red peppers and Vermont Cabot cheddar was the perfect amount and filled me up without over stuffing. My sons, delighted in the creamy and chocolate filled crepe. This is a cute place and located in a great spot with a view of the Capitol dome. We really enjoyed this place.

Outstanding! I was spoiled on crepes back in my high school days when we had the good fortune of a regrettably short-lived small business called Creperie Bretonne near my hometown, so discovering the Skinny Pancake was very exciting. It doesn't disappoint either, featuring locally sourced ingredients combined in the tastiest ways. They also have the best poutine I've had outside Montreal.

  • Gabriela M.

The service is lackluster and dull. When I read in previous reviews that the servers provided poor service I didn't think it mattered to me, so we went anyways. It turns out the little shop really does need its employees to give a hoot in greeting, taking food orders, and general attitude, in order to make it quaint and worthwhile. The food was fine, but there was nothing to return for....

Whatever the fuss is, this ex-hippie (pine tables and all) just doesn't see it after visiting with my son... with the exception of the incredible sweet potato fries, served in a paper lined coupe....loved that part. First off the young waiter decided to get in a snit with me after he came to the table where al the available 3 seats were filled and asked 'Is everybody here?' and jovial me responded with a smile 'Not much room for anyone else !' Gotta roll with it mate....doesn't do you or the establishment to be defensive. This is a trend among recent generations which just fails to get "It's not about you..it's about your customer. If you want to get all snitty, self indulgent and all PC, go home. It's called Restaurant Service because you are supposed to 'restore' and 'serve'. I ordered the pancake with ham....yukkkk. Ham in machine like little cubes between a pancake does not constitute what you are charging. PS: since this poor experience I spent some time looking through many photographs of menu items at TSP and, on that basis am awarding an extra star as I am encouraged to give it another try sometime as, even though my previous analysis of the particular item chosen still stands, I may have not made the best choice previously.

Went here on a Friday evening and it was mobbed. Service seemed a little on the slow side. The food was good (I got the apples and Brie crepe, my friend got the calzone crepe) except for the fact that my crepe was missing items that were supposed to be included, while my friend's crepe contained spinach that she specifically asked them to hold. Probably a pretty good place over all (considering the other glowing reviews) but perhaps they drop the ball on busy days. (I came back a few days later and ordered a crepe that was supposed to be made with Cabot cheddar cheese, which seemed to be made with mozzarella instead. Perhaps the cook needs to pay just a little more attention to what he/she is doing...)

Delicious crepes! I had the Veggie Monster and it was very fulfilling, and they had a good selection of teas. We got there at 10am on Sunday and it was fairly empty. The women working the front were nice (although not overly friendly) and were fairly accommodating to our requests for soy milk and an ingredient on the side. Would definitely come again if I were to pass by!

What a pleasant surprise! The Skinny Pancake is a great place for a light lunch while in Montpelier. The service was attentive and the food was delicious. I had the Lumberjack Crepe which had ham, cheese and apples. The crepe was served with a small salad topped with maple vinaigrette. Yum!! Definitely a good place to grab a bite to eat.

We stumbled upon The Skinny Pancake one afternoon in the midst of a road trip to Montreal. Man, am I glad we came here! Gordon kept it simple and only ordered some french fries. They were goooood fries. Tasted like real potatoes- imagine that! I got the Bleus for Breakfast: soft-cooked egg, bleu cheese and pieces of ham. Delicious. Since we were getting back on the road, I didn't want to stuff myself, so I skipped a sweet crepe. I really really wanted one, though. I love that they tell you where all the ingredients come from. On the chalkboard menu, the various local farms are listed with each ingredient. Gives you the local connection. If we even pass through Montpelier again, we are definitely stopping here again! And I will order a sweet crepe, I promise you that.

We decided to get breakfast at The Skinny Pancake when some other breakfast/brunch places nearby were too busy. The wait wasn't bad. The service was a little off; the folks behind the counter seemed a little distracted by the Sunday morning rush. The menu is a little pricey. The crepes are delicious and worth the price, but the drinks cost too much for the volume. Still, The Skinny Pancake uses all local ingredients and has a great atmosphere. I would definitely recommend it to folks in Montpelier looking for a unique breakfast/brunch experience.

It is because of places like The Skinny Pancake which makes the state of Vermont pure awesomeness. We came here after heading to Kismet via raving yelp reviews lead us to a closed restaurant. Skinny Pancake was the 2nd raved breakfast joint so we quickly TomTom'ed our way here and it was the best decision ever. Pesto Riser - House-made basil-sunflower seed pesto, Cabot cheddar cheese, and a Shadow Cross Farm egg...... HEAVEN ON A PLATE Whoever thought of putting all of the above ingredients together on a plate is a pure genius. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a breakfast spot but please keep in mind my review is only based upon my one dish. I'm sure there are other treasures found in this colossus of a menu.

This place was delicious. I ordered the deja vu crepe, which is sweet Italian sausage, apples, and Cabot cheddar cheese with a side of maple syrup. Very Vermont, and mindblowingly delicious. I've gone to many crepe restaurants, and this was one of the best. I got a goat's milk caramel crepe for dessert, which was very good, but not as impressive as the deja vu crepe.

  • Permahungry C.

Solidly mediocre, in my opinion. Stopped in about 9:00 on a Thursday morning, place was empty... but it started to fill up about 9:30ish... Food - ordered the Breakfast Monster. The crepe itself was pretty tasty, and the fillings were... okay. I think I expected more of a flavor explosion based on the ingredients, so was kind of surprised that it was almost bland (aside from the overwhelming flavor of the onions...)....and somehow a little greasy? It was served with a side of mixed greens which was fresh, but slightly overdressed for my taste (which was my bad, I should have asked for dressing on the side like I usually do because I prefer my salads super lightly dressed). Atmosphere - when I first walked in, I thought it'd be the kind of place I'd want to hang out for a bit and read... but for some reason, I didn't feel... welcome? Comfortable? Service - a previous reviewer got it right when they said it was neither friendly nor unfriendly... just sort of... there... hard to explain.. In conclusion - I don't really think it lives up to the hype, but would give it a second chance. Mostly because I love crepes. And wanted to try pretty much everything on the menu. I'd say give it a shot, but don't go in expecting a life-changing experience...
