Had the BBQ sampler. As a southerner who rarely is impressed by the pork bbq offered north of the Mason Dixon line, this was the best I've had. The bbq chicken was excellent as well. Meat falling off the bone, great smoke flavor, solid sauce. And compared to Brooklyn prices, this was cheap, really even at southern prices. We got take out, but the bar is a sweet spot I hope to come back to and enjoy a beverage with my BBQ and watch a game.

We stood waiting for a seat for 35 minutes without any staff coming to help us. Finally when we asked about seating, they told us it would be an hour wait. Basically, the service is awful.

I love this place because the service is always so pleasant, the BBQ IS the best in Vermont and the bloody marry's are fantastic!! A must, if your in Plymouth, just driving through or staying for awhile! The music is always great and the ambience is PERFECT! A real work of art!

This place ROCKS! Best food for the money, huge portions, and menu is pretty big so that's a PLUS, and great, big variety of beer to choose from. LOVE it!

Whenever we have an excuse to stop here, we will; even if it requires justifying a 30 minute reroute. The jalapeno poppers are actually one of the best things I've ever tasted. They have a good taplist, the service has been pleasant each time we've went, and they're menu is big/mouthwatering. The interior of this place looks awesome, but we've sat outside as well and the patio is very nice. But, the jalapeno poppers. They're phenomenal. A must-order!

Really enjoyed nice dinner after spending the whole day skiing! A bit slow service, however, the food was worth it. Will definitely be back

Was in town so looked up dinner places after a day of snowmobiling. Dropped by this restaurant around 6:30pm and so glad we did because the line got really long after we were seated! The lady owner read us the specials for the night and gave us our menus. Very nice to see owners running their restaurants cos u do not see that a lot in NY. I ordered the spicy corn chowder with scallops and it was so good!!! Scallops were nicely cooked (grilled? I think) and the soup has a nice kick to it with corn, potatoes, celery and i cant remember what else was in it. Had the mussels as appetizers and that was really good! They also served warm bread with a sweet tasting butter spread and i really enjoyed it. We each ordered an entree to share. I ordered the smoked salmon fettuccine, my friend ordered the NY strip and girlfriend ordered the combo with chicken and ribs. The smoked salmon fettuccine came and i was expecting it to be cured smoked salmon but turned out to be cooked salmon which also tasted pretty good. The sauce was alittle on the heavier side so it will fill u up!!! NY strip was cooked nicely (medium) served with veggies and he chose a side of mash potatoes. The steak tasted very tender and flavorful. I love when a restaurant does their steaks the right way. I only tried the ribs from my girlfriend's plate since at this point i was more than half way full! The ribs were fall off the bone and tasted good. There were some hard parts but i think thas just the top layer of skin. Overall, although a very busy restaurant, the food was good. They had a huge bar with what seemed like a lot of beers to choose from but i was too full to have some. Customer service was nice, had no issues with getting my cup filled w water or asking for anything. Wouldnt mind coming back again next time!

This is our go to place for great barbecue and I mean great barbecue! The portions are big and can't beat the taste. Highly recommended!

40 year old place specializes in BBQ. Good prices and large portions. Our platters of BBQ pulled pork and BBQ turkey dinner were $18 each. Turkey came with stuffing, mashed potatoes and vegetables. Start with tasty rolls and great cole slaw. Friendly service.

Drive by this place at least 6 times a month, and finally decided to stop. Glad I did! This place has it all. Great atmosphere, super friendly staff, many beers on tap, and of course GREAT food. Prices seem high, but once you see the amount of food they bring you, the prices are spot on. The poppers are to die for, and the ribs are HUGE. Will be stopping again for sure.

It hurts me to leave this review. I've been in Killington for 3 years now, and this place was one that I RAVED about. Even my boyfriend who's lived here all his life, raved about the Back Behind. Not only is it the only BBQ restaurant in the area, it was always was delicious and a solid dining experience. However, on our visit yesterday, it was an overly disappointing experience. First off, the owner/ hostess, was especially uptight and rude. She decided to shout over the mild greetings our party was having to each other (just 4 of us) to ask how many were in our party. Then when she came to the table to tell us the specials, she was overly miserable in her delivery. It was almost as if she was telling us about the recent deaths in the area. It took 20 minutes after we finally ordered to get our appetizers, then another 20 minutes after that to get BREAD. Yes, the bread that comes with every table. Most appalling, was the 1 hour and 45 minutes - yes 1 hour and 45 minutes- it took for our to get our entrees, from the time we were seated. And there was zero acknowledgment, or apology from either our waitress or the owner about the extremely sluggish service. What's worse, they weren't even that busy. We actually saw a table of 2 sit down, then get up and leave after about 10 minutes because no one had come to take their orders. So there was empty tables, other waitstaff meandering around, our waitress out of sight half the time, and an hour and 45 minutes for us to get our entrees. Just really unacceptable. Then the worst of it all, the food was just not that good at all. The venison was over cooked, the chicken was tough, the stuffed flounder had WAY too much salt in it (and I love salt, but I tried it and it was hard to eat), and the actual BBQ- smoked pulled pork and brisket- was so dry, I debated whether it was worth bringing home to the dogs or not. I stopped eating it when I took a bite that was also COLD, no matter how hungry I was. And to top it off, their sweet potato fries - which cost $2.50 extra- were the frozen ones out of a bag, that really anyone could notice. When we finally decided that we just needed to leave, our waitress was no where to be found. It took about 10 minutes for her to reappear. We asked for the check, and then it took her another 10/15 minutes for us to get that! She made it worse by laying out a lame excuse about how 'all her tables were leaving at the same time', which wasn't the case at all. Both our server and the owner were oblivious as to how bad things were during our dining experience, and didn't seem to really care. Sad to see what once was such a great restaurant go down the tubes. We won't be returning, but hoping they get things back on track.

Arrived at 8pm on a Sunday. One other table contained the entirety of the restaurant's other customers. Somehow it still took over an hour to deliver BBQ for my party of two, which is what the sign over the door advertises. Food was mediocre after all that buildup. I thought getting away from the access road might mitigate the Killington effect where everyone seems to think what they have is way more special than it is, but that didn't work out here.

HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! We waited for about 10 minites and our waiter was rude. She showed us our table but did not get us menus and we had to get the menus ourselfs. Once we got our menus, it was outragious. She said she had to cater to the other folks. So we left. On the way out, we were cornered by our waitress. I would have gave it no stars but this app does not allow that.

Visited tonight as my parents were celebrating their 60th birthdays and this was the place they got engaged at many moons ago. We thought it would be fun to reminisce and enjoy a fun evening out. We were not disappointed. The food here is amazing! The ribs were the best I ever had! They easily fell off the bone, and were so tender and flavorful. The portions are huge. I'll have enough left over for tomorrow's lunch and dinner! The staff was friendly and attentive. Gerry is super welcoming and came to check on us multiple times to make sure we were enjoying ourselves and our meals were delicious. We are about an hour away from here but the trip was well worth making and we hope to be back again soon. Thanks for the hospitality Gerry!

So delicious we forgot to take a photo before we ate it. Also great for right after ski/snowboarding. Lots of food! The complimentary honey bread is a cloud of ....Omg! Cale slaw fresh! The Server was amazing. The interior is decorated with a slice of the Owners life...

Went here based on the positive reviews and wanted to add another one! Keeping it short and sweet, this place lives up to the title of "Best BQQ in New England". Coming in, seating was quick for our large party of 7. Service was initially an average pace, but slowed quite a bit after our drinks were delivered. Not too slow, but enough to wonder where the heck out waitress was. The family sampled all of the BQQ meats offered, pulled pork, chicken, brisket and ribs. All were absolutely delectable. Ribs were fall of the bone, pork was juicy, brisket was hearty, and chicken was tender (although some parts were noticeably charred). Our wait service, as said, was a bit on the slow side, but very welcoming and energetic. We have a loud family, and they went with joking with us all the out the door. Prices were higher than expected for a BQQ joint, but I believe you absolutely get what you pay for.

I can see why there are some negative reviews here because yes they do have too large of a menu. I make barbeque meats in my smoker at home and I know it is demanding enough to have fresh barbeque on hand all the time. So I am not sure how they can serve so many specials. A pleasant surprise was the beer list. I saw a Founders breakfast stout handle and ordered that but the woman that was helping us said it was Founders oatmeal stout instead right now and it was on a nitro pour. It is often hard to get people to tell you what is on tap let alone tell you that they have it on a nitro pour which is great. I had the jalapeno popper while being very good and unique they were also a bit steep in price at $8+ for 4 poppers. Granted they were about 2x the size of normal poppers. The brisket sandwich I ordered was not fantastic, but was OK. Brisket tasted reheated. The people I was with enjoyed their meals immensely. I will be back for apres ski again this week and probably for a while to come as this place is right by our house up there!

Best corn and the baby back ribs we have ever had. Awesome waiter and staff. Wow just wow.

The only reason I'm giving three stars is because of the service. Otherwise the food is good and the selection of beers on tap is excellent. You must have patience to go here. If you are in a hurry go somewhere else. We went on a Saturday early and was the second group to be seated after waiting 5-10 minutes. We were told we couldn't have menus until the owner came over to explain the evening's specials even though I can clearly read them from the ginormous blackboard on the wall. The 15 minute wait for the menu wouldn't have been bad if one of several wait staff took our drink order while they were serving the one other table in the restaurant. Now I fully understand the origin of the word "wait"er. We watched as people shuffled in only to be told there was 30 minute wait for a table all the while there were numerous empty tables in the dining area. We got our dinners over an hour later. The food was excellent and we enjoyed the special appetizer and ribeye steak although a little overcooked. They didn't seem to have a sense of urgency in turning over the table so we had a night cap and waited once again for our check. After leaving, I looked at my watch and realized we had spent 2 1/2 hours for dinner for a party of 2. Wow!

A great find! Went for a bite after skiing and was pleasantly surprised. Staff was very welcoming, food was even better. Seafood stew was a winner. Their maple walnut vinaigrette salad dressing deserves a shoutout too, as it was one of the best dressings I've ever had. Ill be getting some of their bbq next time. Go check it out!

We stopped in for lunch today, haven't been since Irene came ripping thru. Seen pictures of what the storm did to this fine place. Terrible, just terrible. It was nice to see they were able to recover. My wife had the smoked Angus Burger, I had the pulled pork sandwich. Both were incredible. All around the service and food was great. I would totally recommend this place to anyone. Keep up the good work guys.

This place totally rocks!! The food was awesome and the staff was super curious and attentive. We were from out of town for the EORA Show at Killington and drove by this place on the Rt. 100 turn, the smoker brought us in from the road!! The pull pork sandwiches were epic, perfectly flavored with a great balance between meat and seasoning. We ordered the jalapeno poppers which were unique but delicious- a must try if you're into spicy. The staff was super nice throughout our visit, and the chef even came over to ask how the corn of the cobb was. He mentioned that the corn is locally sourced from Massachusetts and they get all of their produce from local New England farms. Will be back next year, no doubt!!

Inconsistent food and service. A bit expensive. Huge menu has identity crisis. We watched waiter get reprimanded for not charging for extra bread on a $18 meal. Cold soup.. Got it right the 2nd try though. Decor was dated and dusty.. If that matters to you. Artificial flowers not so great.

Our visit to the BBQ was wonderful. We were greeted by one of the owners: Gerry. She seated us and rattled off an abundance of specials. We ordered two bowls of French onion soup to start: delicious. I ordered the fish and chips and my friend order the smoked burger. Both were cooked well! The fish and chips was the larger portion size I've ever seen! It was flaky and amazing. We ordered the berry pie and cookies and cream homemade ice cream for dessert. Both were phenomenal. Our waitress was good and Gerry continued to check on us throughout the meal. Has a charming "hometown" and "tradition" kind of feel that chains like Applebee's and Cracker Barrel try to have. These guys nail it.

I had the smoked boneless chicken thighs for takeout and they were delicious. They came with two sides homemade coleslaw and baked beans, both very tasty! Had enough chicken leftover to make a tasty sandwich for lunch on the trail the next day. Got to meet Jerri the hostess and Conrad the BBQ king, both nice folks. A definite must stop in!

This place looked like a place I would love. However, with a sleeping baby and my dog, I went in to grab a menu and get some food to bring with us. I was told "he's not doing take out, it's too busy". I have never heard of such a thing before, a paying customer is a paying and possible frequent customer. I gladly took my money elsewhere.

This is our go to place in Killington, winter or summer. Have never had a disappointing meal here. We usually go BBQ, but have had a special on occasion, and always start our meals with the amazing, fresh made and unique jalapeño poppers and some thin sliced deep fried pickles. Yeah it may be a little pricey for the area but everything is made in house and it's clearly a labor of love for the owners, who serve as chef and chief hostess. Portions are gut busting, so either take it easy on the ordering or prepare to have enough for lunch the next day, especially if going with the BBQ sampler, which includes 5 different BBQ meats.

This is a very cosy and homey restaurant with the owner Gerry greeting and seating us and enthusiastically describing the incredibly long list of specials they had for the night. Waitress service was pleasant and efficient. The quality of the food was unfortunately very disappointing. The NE clam chowder I ordered was watery and tasteless. My wife's "home stuffed" (with cheese and tuna?) jalapeño poppers were gigantic and unappetizing. We all ordered BBQ as that is the "house specialty". The ribs were tender and falling off the bone but they were tasteless. No smoky flavor and smothered with BBQ sauce that was too sweet. I suspect the ribs were boiled and not truly smoked. The draft beer selection is very good with several VT brewed ales. We were very disappointed overall as we so wanted to like this place.

This place is great. I've probably passed this place many times before but never noticed it was there. The restaurant is tucked behind on Rt. 4 and you probably won't notice it when you're driving by. The restaurant is a typical Killington bar/restaurant. They have a pretty large menu with great selections. We came here on Sat night for dinner and we all sat the bar. The food was good and the bartender was great. The place was packed on Sat night so be prepared to wait for a little bit if you're coming for dinner. They have BBQ and other food selections if you don't like BBQ. We ended up ordering a few appetizers to share and they didn't disappoint. I would definitely be coming back again when I'm around the area.

I ate here for the first time in 15 years over the weekend. I used to stop here for lunch with my fam when I was a kid. Did a trip with some friends, and we had dinner here on a Saturday. The place was packed, about 45 minute wait for a table. We decided to eat at the bar. The bartender was very professional and attentive (her break down of what was on tap was downright impressive). All six of us were very happy with our food. I got the BBQ sampler, and had enough left over for lunch the next day. The beer selection on tap was good, and the lines were clean. Great spot for dinner or lunch (if you can skate on your ski's the sundog trail sucks).

NASTY STAFF - HORRID SERVICE - TWO YEARS IN A ROW SAME EXPERIENCE - OWNERS AND STAFF COULD CARE LESS ABOUT YOU -don't give your money to people who don't appreciate your patronage. Five of us sat at bar for 25 mins with no service on a sunday night at 8pm. The staff is rude and knows nothing about customer service. Locals tell us they wont set foot in the place and many wonder how the hell the place has any decent reviews. DONT GO !!

It's tough to find good barbecue in New England and I definitely thought Vermont was an unlikely location, but boy did I have some delicious pulled pork! Lick your lips good. It came with a pickle, cole slaw and beans. This is where I think they could've added their own touch rather than stick to the traditional just to stand out. You can't make substitutions but it's easily remedied by ordering a side of fries. Their beer selection was great filled with tons of local and micro brews, which is a staple for a lot of Vermont bars. The waitress was knowledgable about the beers and did a great job describing the various beers. We literally camped out at the restaurant for at least 3 hours and everyone was so incredibly friendly. The Back Behind Saloon seems like a great place to check out whether you're a local or a tourist. Just make sure to come hungry!

This is my favorite place to eat in the Killington area of VT. If you're lucky the first person you'll meet when you walk in will be Gerri. Gerri is warm, charming and a total character! I loved her instantly! The food here was so excellent and the service so spot on that my husband and I ate here twice during our recent visit to Killington. If you can get the table next to the fireplace, order yourself a pomegranate martini, fried pickles and a Slammer. You will NOT regret it! For me, the Back Behind represents all of the best of VT. Hats off to you, Gerri and Connie! You guys rock!

We were staying at the place across the street and tried Back Behind out of convenience the first night. Five nights later we've been three times (they are closed Tues and Wed) and have been thrilled by the amazing service, great music and most of all, excellent food. There are not enough stars for this place. The jalapeno poppers are wrapped in bacon instead of breaded and served with home made ranch. The cajun chicken alfredo is perfectly balanced. The crab cakes were good enough to order twice. The jalapeno corn bread was delicious. The bread, honey butter and coleslaw that come with each meal was all perfect each time. Everything is made from scratch from fresh local ingredients. The atmosphere is cozy and rustic. The music is a perfect classic rock mix, the wine selection is great and the staff is on top of your every need. If you're anywhere near Killington, don't miss coming here.

We had been driving around trying to find a new places and stumbled upon a pig shaped grill and knew we were in for a treat! We walked in and were automatically greeted by Gerri who made us feel right at home! She introduced us to Leslie who was our fantastic bartender for the meal. We both ordered the chili, chips and cheese to start, which could've been a meal in itself. The chili was the perfect amount of flavor and heat. Next we both ordered the slammer, an open-face pork BBQ sandwich piled with cheese and coleslaw, which was to DIE FOR!!! We couldn't finish them, but instead of packing it up to-go we chose to stay and enjoy the atmosphere and pick on it for another hour. The place is so lively and fills up quickly and was the perfect mix of locals and tourists. We loved it so much we decided to go back the next day! We ordered the french onion soup- fantastic, fried pickles- huge plate and also fantastic, as well as the bbq pork sandwich straight up. The bbq alone was delicious, the coleslaw is just the right amount of sweet, and the portion was huge. All in all, I can't wait for our next trip back to Vermont so we can swing by!

This was a very pleasant surprise to find in Killington, which surprisingly lacks decent food. I would say my feelings are in line with the other 4 and 5 star reviewers. This place is definitely one of the best (probably not the best) bbq places in the northeast. The apps were interesting and tasty. One of us had the Rhode Island (clear) Clam Chowder and said it was good, I had the jalapeno corn bread with honey butter which was fantastic. We also had the jalapeno poppers which I wasn't personally a fan of because #1 they were not spicy hot at all #2. We weren't a fan of the tuna stuff on the inside. I would have like the peppers to be much spicier and filled with just cheese or some type of other tasty meat. I had the pulled pork sandwich which was juicy, tangy and delicious. My buddy had the brisket sandwich and was extremely pleased with his choice. His wife had the Dino Ribs (Texas beef ribs) which were huge and delicious. She could only finish one of the ribs... If you don't want bbq there are plenty of other interesting looking options which I'm sure you'll be happy with. This is going to become a regular place for us when we're in the Killington area.

This place was the best part of my trip to Killington! For starters we ordered the clam chowder and crab cakes. The choweder was perfect...not overly creamy like other clam chowders in new england. For dinner we had a rack of baby back ribs which was HUGE and also falling off the bone. These were the best restaurant baby back ribs I've ever had. The coleslaw and fries that came on the side were also delicious. The atmosphere was great, very old fashion and wood based, which I love. The back portion of the restaurant was an old train cart, which was very unique. The owner, I think her name was Gerri, was a great hostess, very warm and inviting. If I lived closer I would be here all the time.

Went here on a weekend afternoon. It was very nice--outdoor seating in the summer. It was a little buggy, but overall the atmosphere was great. We were promptly seated by Gerri, one of the owners. She went over all of the specials for us, which luckily included Prime Rib. (Sunday nights only). The list of specials was extensive. We were also informed that all of the items are homemade, including the BBQ. We had French onion soup for an appetizer, which was very tasty and piping hot. The entrees came with cole slaw (yum!) and tasty bread. My dining partner ordered the BBQ--brisket and pulled pork. The portion was massive and included fresh veggies and a potato. He went for the sweet potato fries, which were very good (and an upcharge of $2 or something). I went for the prime rib, which also included potato and veggies. My only disappointment was I ordered the PR medium rare and the piece I got was full-on medium. No pink. So I was sad but I ate the beef and it was still good. There were about 100 other things I would have liked to try on the menu. Our waitress was friendly and nice. The Back Behind Saloon has a full bar. We will be going back on our next venture through Vermont!

I was reticent about stopping by a barbecue place in Vermont, having recently toured many Kansas city traditional barbecue places such as Arthur Bryant's etc... But it was getting cold and we had run out of daylight anyways... That said I was very pleasantly surprised, the meat is barbecued right there, and it's fall off the bone tender as they say, we had a rack of ribs, and the pulled pork sandwich, both were pretty good, and the pulled pork was tangy just the way I like it , take it from someone who just toured the KC bbq scene... We paid around 28$ per person including tip, for which we had a sandwich each and a full rack of ribs and beer for three people. The portions were filling. They carry local beers from right up the road, but also beer from another small independent brewery, dogfish head. To me, the fact that they carry such an independent small brand on tap says attention to detail, it says that the manager(s) actively research what they have to offer, and that's the sort of place that will keep me coming back every time I'm in the area... It's an impression I often get in Vermont; that the people there put thought in what they do. I will also add that the setting is very cosy, giving the impression of a somewhat cluttered tavern, which I like... I absolutely recommend this place to anyone who likes good barbecue, and would like to sample Vermont know-how...

We stumbled in here when we couldn't get up Killington Road. What a surprise! We were greeted by the owner, seated and found that everything on the menu is made by hand on premise, they smoke their own BBQ. Sorry Wobbly, but we have a new favorite restaurant in Killington. The waitstaff was excellent, the food as good as it gets and the business is top notch through and through. You can even sit in an old caboose. At the corner of Rt 4 and 100.

Have been here twice on snowboarding trips to killington. Adorable place, half of the restaurant is an old train car. Great barbecue! Try the jalapeño poppers, freshly made, not fried like store bought. They have a great selection of beer, and the bar menu is even better then the dinner menu. Owned by a lovely couple who are so sweet! It's hard to find good food in killington, this is a great spot!

With the lack of mobile service/wifi, we had to rely on the old but proven strategy of choosing a place to eat based on how crowded its parking lot is. Back Behind Saloon's parking lot to say the least was full. Upon entering, we found the bar area completely crowded with plenty of room still available in the dining room. Within 10 mins of us arriving, the place had basically filled up. While the food was very good (compared to what could have been), there were a couple of issues that did make the experience simply okay. We arrived to find the hostess *finishing* making a dessert in the back. This wouldn't have been an issue if there weren't 3-5 waiters just sitting around, doing nothing except going back and forth to tell us that she would be with us as soon as she was done (took a good 10 mins). Why couldn't waiters have sat us down given they were doing nothing? The line of people behind us kept on growing and growing until it reached the front door. When the hostess finally came out, she then got on the case of the waiters telling them they should have told her there was a line of people. In fact, when she sat everyone down, she did a massive group sit down and told 5-6 tables at once the specials for the night by shouting it across the dining room. Maybe it's because there's nothing much to do after sunset but after a full day of skiing, knowing we'd have to drive in the dark through one lane roads back to our hotel, we just wanted some good food before sleep. We weren't looking to linger. Our two bowls of chowder came out fast enough. The bread basket and the cole slaw that appeared at every other table though took a good 20 mins to arrive. Our main meals took even longer and we watched several other table finish their entire meals while we waited. Hsulin P. and I were sharing the Back Behind BBQ combo sampler while Will R. was having their Brisket Platter. Portions are humongous with Hsulin and I very happy we chose to share a plate. The BBQ sauce is made in house and is unfortunately too generously poured over everything (maybe best to ask for it on the side). The sweetness of the sauce is not bad but in large quantities, it hides all the smoke and juices of the meat. Given everything is cooked in a smokehouse in front of the restaurant, it's a waste of hours spent smoking meats. As I watched the husband at another table soak up as much sauce as possible of his plate with a paper napkin, I thought about how I'd take that as an insult if I was the cook. Unfortunately, when my own plate arrived, I couldn't help but want to do the exact same thing. Below all that sauce, the meat was very good though. 4 star for the moist, meaty, fall-of-the-bone baby back ribs (compared to dry, non-tasty food at the main lodge) 1 star for the cozy atmosphere -1 star for the slow service and never getting our leftovers -1 star for the New England Clam Chowder Would we be back? Absolutely. But maybe we'd come a little less hungry and more ready for the slow service. And yes, we really were longing for our leftovers the next morning.

Arrived on a Sunday afternoon and we were immediately greeted by the owner. Place has a rustic feel and very cozy. After we heard the specialties, we decided to start with the jalepeno poppers. Best I have ever had. Steamed jalepenos stuffed with cream cheese and bacon...4 to an order and all you need is one. For our meals, we got the pulled pork sandwich, brisket sandwich, and an open faced pulled pork with melted pepperjack cheese. Everything was delicious and all our plates were cleaned dry. Portions were large and the service was friendly. Great stop on our way through vermont. Would definitely come back!

Love this funky little place . Surprised by the ribs for sure. My family also loved the prime riband smoked turkey dinner, bit I'd go go the st. Louis ribs for sure. So glad to have gone , will be back next week for more. Yum!

Even though I'll probably never be back here - I had to write a review for 2 reasons: 1) For the first time ever, I ate escargot. It was out of shell swimming in buttery, winey, garlicy sauce with cheese and tomato. I actually liked it considering that they are dark grey and gross looking. I guess this proves that everything is good with garlic. 2) I got pulled pork w/ sauce for dinner and it was good! Like really really good, like North Carolina good - for real

Wait staff was horrible. Not worth it. Way overrated.

So after about five minutes of on-line searching I came across tons of great reviews for this place which is leaving me a little confused. I dined at the Back Behind today for the first time, and maybe my hopes were too high, but it sorely disappointed. There were precious few good things about our meal, but Ill start with those. The hostess, who I think was the manager, was very charming and chatted with us for a minute about where we were from, etc, in addition to proudly mentioning some new specials they had. Which it was my poor judgment not to order. The meat on our BBQ combo, pulled pork and brisket, was good, tender, and the sauce definitely tasted homemade, the corn and rice side dishes were fresh, and here's where the good ends. Our smoked salmon appetizer, besides being overpriced (like the entree) was disgusting. Being a cook myself I try to be understanding when I go out to eat, but this was inexcusable. Over cooked, over salted, with the consistency of play-do mixed with warm tap water. Not at all wanting to make a scene, we sent it back and I told the waitress it had a strange texture, and was veeerry salty. This salmon was NOT fresh. She said she would tell the owner, and comped it. The bill was still almost 40 dollars for one entree and 2 beers!!! This is not fine dining people!!!!! No apology, suggestion of something else to try, or even a sense of slight concern at all, which I know was because my girlfriend and I were young and not locals. It was so slow when we went, I was surprised the owner had nothing to say about the matter at all, except to tell the waitress to tell us that "sometimes when salmon is smoked it gets a different texture." What a line of BS. It felt slightly condescending, and when combined with the slow, inattentive service, the very over priced, uninspired food, and the fear of food poisoning I now have, I will not be going back. Vermont should be embarrassed.

Just at at Back Behind, asked the waitress a few questions and was treated like I was some stupified city slicker. I know what good bbq and how to properly smoke something is and is done. I wanted to know if the brisket is rare or red in the center which to me is an indicator of whether the people know what they are doing. I was dismissed as not understanding things. If you like this food, that is fine. It's opinion. This place has no idea how to prepare brisket properly in anything that resembles experience or quality. Dark brown, dry and drowned in sauce is not a result of anyone that knows what they are doing. I also got the French Onion soup which I thought was excellent. Unfortunately (and this happened) I looked up at the tv for something that caught my attention and the waitress cleared it off my table like a stealth food waster. I was not even half done with it. I got over it and decided to try the burger my wife got. Holy cow it was bad. Again, if you like the food that's fine. My problem is I also know good burgers and when you order a medium burger and it's dark brown, tough and flavorless it's not too impressive. We gave it to our dog, she was very happy. I would give this place a D but since they had such an attitude and superiority complex about their feeble nonexistent smoking skills I would give it an F for the false advertising factor. Apologies to anyone offended but I have several great bbq places near me in Boston as well as knowing how to prepare it myself. If you want some decent bbq and are ever near Boson try the Blue Ribbon. The chef here certainly should.

The baby back ribs at Back Behind are good enough to plunge the country into a second Civil War. You ain't gonna get better than these fall-off-the-bone racks this side of the Mason-Dixon line, and any righteous Rebel with a rifle who finds this place sittin' at the foot of the slopes of Killington will no doubt feel duty-bound to protect the honor of the Confederate States. And I'll second the motion of the lovely and obviously spot-on Miss Heather in the review above. The pulled pork comes from that same smokehouse (a decomissioned railroad car at the other end of the Back Behind's parking lot) and provides a stellar sidebar to the aforementioned ribs. I won't leave the Killington area unless there's a pulled pork sandwich from BB sittin' on my dashboard for the ride home. I'm not your source for any info on the remainder of the menu.. With those ribs in play, I see no reason to venture any further down the carte de maison, folks. Go grab that apres-ski wack o' wibs, kids!!!!

This is definitely a charming BBQ place in Killington. Unfortunately, we ate here last night and were pretty disappointed. Everything in the BBQ sampler was dry and bland. Service took extremely long despite the restaurant not seeming to be overly packed. We had two toddlers and it took quite a long time for any food to reach the table (including the bread which came out with the appetizers). A few bright spots were the French onion soup, the stuffed jalapeños and the overall ambiance. It's a place we've been to a few times and we really tried to love it. After last night though, we'll be trying other places.

I don't know what happened, but I always try to get there when I'm in the area, this time it was just hideous. We ordered the fried pickles which were the only enjoyable part of the meal....that and the Cole slaw ...my mother ordered the baby back ribs, which came out dry and hard, oh, and weren't baby back ribs. My father and I ordered the fish and chips which was more grease then anything else. Everything tasted blah. I think if the hostess would of cracked a smile he face would of fallen apart. The waitress was good, but seemed to care less about my mother's complaint about her so called baby back ribs that weren't. I really don't think we are going back, unless there is a craving for fried pickles.

Not a bad bbq joint at all and the owner was very friendly! The bowl of house made coleslaw they bring out is tangy and delicious. The lightly smoked ribeye steak was excellent. The bbq was decent although a little overcooked and under-seasoned in my opinion (got the sampler plate). Still a place I would come back to when I'm in the mood for meat!

Extensive menu and solid BBQ. Came here for dinner on our travel day to Killington, lured in by the smoker parked out front by the road. There really isn't much to choose from in this area, so we're glad we found this place! After hearing the extensive special list, we decided to order a piece of the jalapeño cornbread and clam chowder for our apps. The cornbread was subtle and mild on the jalapeño side, but very good flavor - especially when topped with the homemade honey butter. Chowder was also very good and creamy. For dinner we both ordered the pulled pork platter - holy Moses, SO MUCH FOOD. I was kind of wondering why it cost $18 (it's been SO refreshing to get away from NYC prices this trip) but when the waiter delivered half a hog on the table, I just said amen and got to eating. I ate maybe a third of the meat and had the rest of it packaged up - very good flavor and sauce, came with fries and homemade coleslaw. They had a lot of things on the menu that looked good - the table beside us got some of the cedar planked meats, and they smelled wonderful. Family owned and operated, this place has great food, great service and loyal patrons. Will definitely be back if I'm ever in the area again!

This place is great, and it's not just BBQ. Their scallops and salmon are delicious! Been there several times and am always more than satisfied. Will keep going to Back Behind again and again whenever I want a good meal served with pride. Owner and staff truly care about their customers.
