Asta's was a wonderful experience. Asta's operates as a Bed & Breakfast with an adjoining restaurant. Guests of the B&B are given priority for restaurant seating, but there is also plenty of seating available to other visitors traveling from out of town or who live locally. Bonnie and Chef Michel are the owner/operators, and are absolutely wonderful hosts. My wife and I stayed at the B&B for a long weekend and had a fantastic time. The restaurant serves authentic Swiss cuisine, and our meals were fantastic. I grew up with a Swiss mom and know what Roesti is supposed to taste like, and Swiss-born, educated and trained Chef Michel knows Swiss cuisine. My wife had the Salmon Vermontaise which was wonderful, and I had the Duck a L'Orange which was succulent and delicious. We strongly recommend the Matterhorn for desert; coming from Swiss roots I am a chocolate fanatic, and this dessert doesn't disappoint. I travel and dine internationally on a regular basis, and Asta's restaurant can hold its own against any classic European dining experience. At the B&B, we were greeted cordially on arrival and Bonnie and Michel made us feel very welcome to share their home for the weekend. We did not feel that we were intruding into their space, on the contrary we were made to feel at home and were very comfortable. We had plenty of private space and were treated to cider and snacks in the afternoons. Our room was meticulously clean, comfortable, and newly renovated with a TV, fireplace, comfortable sofa, and very comfortable bed. We enjoyed fresh flowers in the room, and high-quality linens and bath appointments. The room had access to the outdoor balcony in front, and a nice view of the property and river in the back. As many other businesses and homes, Asta's was hit hard by Tropical Storm Irene in 2011, but you could not tell as the inn was absolutely beautiful. Breakfast was provided as part of the B&B package, and Chef Michel treated us to a delicious meal each morning. We had omelettes, muesli in the traditional style, a Swiss version of French toast, and plenty of fruit. Thank you Bonnie and Michel for a wonderful weekend getaway, we can't wait to come back.
I've been twice now and had a fabulous experience both times. The atmosphere is quaint, romantic with a nice small bar & fireplace. The hosts are a wonderful married swiss couple and their pup Zack. Its one of the last few places that still gives you a salad with your meal, and the vermont maple balsamic makes you want to lick your plate clean. The plate size is also perfect. Its a regular size plate, almost as if your Mom cooked your meal, except your Mom can't cook this good. I recommend the Chicken Zurchoise, my personal fav. Also, they make the desserts in house and if you order one once your stuck ordering dessert forever because they are THAT good. The materhorn and the creme brulee are definitely the standout stars. The prices are also reasonable and many wine bottles under $30. I can't wait to return.
