I just spent a week with family at Lake Morey and we had food from the Whippi Dip every day; sometimes more than once a day. First of all, if you are getting something more than ice cream prepare to wait for 10 minutes or so as they make things as they are ordered - and the wait is well worth it. In particular, have some BBQ - they finished second at Memphis in May - the Super Bowl of BBQ. Other recommended food items: breakfast burritos and sandwiches, fried oysters and burgers. We had one bad order (shrimp and grits) and they not only credited the amount, but gave us a gift certificate. The ice cream portions are huge - and the ice cream is excellent. Last thing - we had the W/D cater a meal for about 30 people (pizza, Caesar salads and a terrific dessert) and they handled things beautifully. Highly recommended.

This place may have changed, but I can tell you from growing up visiting this ice cream stand it's delicious and perfect for a fun stop while visiting the lake...and why not try a Whippi-Dip?!

I was treated very rudely there by the older couple there; I received a very snarky answer to an innocent question about their hours. I do not recommend doing business with people who have that attitude towards a potential customer.

They opened for LUNCH at 2:00pm even though their hours stated 9am-9pm... In other words; when ever we get around to it. Lines (to only one window) are long, service is slow and they're not always open when they say they are. The second order window in rarely used. Food is good though and alternatives are few & far between here. They ONLY take cash. It took SOOOO long to eventually get served that by the time we got our food were so irritated that we weren't hungry.

If you go get the BBQ it's terrific. Had the pork sandwich very tasty. Cole slaw was fresh & hearty with an oil & vinegar dressing. No indoor seating. They have hot dogs burgers fried seafood & some tex mex items as well as ice cream. It is popular & you may have to wait in line.

The Whippi-Dip is rockstar. A friend, who is a local, took me this weekend while I was visiting. Owners are caterers that use real ingredients and make most of their own condiments. I had BBQ pulled chicken that was melt in your mouth & came with a red potato side seasoned to perfection. As said its a cash only place, customers were lined up waiting to be served due to the high volume of summer camps & location. Servers inside were busting so it goes fast & encourages interesting conversation. Extremely diverse menu with plenty of outdoor seating, napkins, & Cholula. Didn't see any Sriracha. Finished the meal with a dish of Gifford Ice Cream and took in the colorful flower garden out back. Definitely an interesting and satisfying VT roadside food experience.

I love this place, wanted to go here since close to when I moved to the area, so glad I did. I had the brisket sandwhich and a berry cobbler while hubby had a hot dog and sweet potato fries. I enjoyed my food...delicious and smokey brisket on a warm bulky roll, yum! I also enjoyed my generously portioned berry cobbler with the ice cream of my choosing (maple nut). My hubby didn't particularly enjoy his hot dog, but we both liked the sweet potato fries. The food is yummy, portions generous, and the food quite affordable. There are a couple tables outback you can sit at along with a piano your kids can bang toons out too if they so choose. Also, the condiments are very tasty too-I wonder if they make their own spicy mustard? I want to try their lobster roll. If Whippi Dip was a little closer, I could see myself eating here more often. Also, be prepared to bring cash or a check box, no plastic accepted here.

I went to Whippi-Dip recently with a large-ish group and wasn't in the mood for a heavy meal, so I ordered the roasted vegetable tacos - surprisingly delicious! The roasted veggies were fresh and the tacos came drizzled with a tasty tzatziki-like sauce, unexpected for tacos but tasted great. The dish was fresh, filling and not greasy, exactly what I was hoping for. Don't get me wrong, this isn't gourmet food - but for a roadside stand in an area with limited food options, I was impressed with the flavors and creativity. Will definitely come again.

Food isn't bad, but not noteworthy. The fun is in the name and the institution. A must-try for newbies to the area, and a good place to go when you want fries, a burger or ice cream fast during the summer.

Awesome food, great ice cream, and all in a great town. Go there as soon as you can! You won't regret it.

If you are craving some ice cream or some greasy comfort food the Whippi-Dip is the the place to go. I tried the cheeseburger with fries, they were both served piping hot and cooked to perfection. The ice cream is excellent too. Highly recommend.

An easy enough place to get to just off route 5 in Fairlee VT. You are going to want to stop by but make sure to bring cash (cash only). I can only review the soft serve but really the best that I have had in the area. Make sure to get the chocolate dip for a real dessert!

Amazing lobster roll! My husband and I still can't believe how great it was! It would cost at least $16 in NYC to get one that stuffed...Perfectly made with extremely fresh ingredients. PS: The pulled pork was pretty great too :-) All round great food!

I drove about 20 miles from Lebanon to visit this drive-in, which looked quite classic, and had received high ratings for its lobster rolls. It was 2 by the time that I got there for lunch, and I was very disappointed to hear that their lobster had just arrived, and the lobster rolls were not yet ready. I inquired as to when they'd be ready, thinking I could drive and wander up the White River, visit the many antique shops along the way, and then return. Presumably not wanting to answer as to when the lobster rolls would be ready, the cashier recommended I try the clams. So, I ordered the clams with the (also highly recommended) sweet potato fries. I was not overwhelmed by, and in fact didn't finish, either the fries or the clams. Not bad, but probably not worth 20 miles, either. And certainly not what I've come to expect of New England seafood. The trip was salvaged by a small sugar cone of chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream; a small cone at this location is two large scoops. Very good ice cream, presumably from some very contended Vermont jersey cows.

A delicious brownie sundae for only $3.75! Their soft serve cones dipped in chocolate or butterscotch with sprinkles are a favorite with everyone. The "small" is really a big size compared to other places. Beside ice cream they also have fries, hot dogs and hamburgers.

I agree with the other reviewer -- the beef brisket was delicious in a warmed, light roll. I nearly returned for a second order of sweet potato fries. The moose tracks milkshake was delicious, as was my friend's root beer float. Their root beer is delicious on its own, as well. Service was fast and friendly and it also seems like the staff have a blast working there which was entertaining to watch. Beware ice cream orders because even the kiddie size is large.

With a name like Whippi Dip, it has to be good. I am assuming it is a vintage name and has had a long local following, and deservedly so. It looks like a home town Dairy Queen drive in, but it is so much more. The food is great, and reasonable. I had soup, battered mushrooms, and chicken salad on a croissant. I think it cost $11, and it was so good, I would have paid twice as much and been satisfied. Obviously, you aren't paying for atmosphere. You can eat at one of a few picnic tables or in your car. The ice cream is also good; I really like their mini sundae, which is very small, costs about $1.50, but gives you some dessert satisfaction. This is a seasonal business, and closes each year after Columbus Day. A real find.
