I recently enjoyed an extended stay in Northwestern Vermont and was pleased to find The Inn at Buck Hollow Farm still rules. There were new kitties to meet and the other guests I met this time were really nice people (Barbara T.!) with great stories to share over breakfast. As far as breakfasts go, they continued to wow me. One morning I had an amazing cranberry orange muffin with cranberry oatmeal. Another favorite included vegan maple vanilla cream French toast. The veggie sausage was better than ever and the fruit cup always refreshing. The manager, Cheri, had some great suggestions for local haunts that I hadn't visited and had lots of fun stories to tell about the inn and goings-on. There was a family that booked up all of the other inn rooms at one point to have a relaxing birthday celebration. I thought this was a great idea and may do the same in the future. I wasn't sure what to expect of the weather and foliage when we arrived at the end of October, but I was pleased to see there was still plenty of color, and unseasonably mild temps. I enjoyed taking pictures of one of the beautiful trees on the land of the inn during my stay, capturing the full-blown foliage, to the snow-cover, to bare. This goes to show that any time of the year is a great one to visit. Sign up for their newsletter to get all the rate specials that aren't advertised elsewhere!

On the Farm's web page under 'specials' it notes that during specified weekdays the rate, if mentioned when making a reservation, would be 50% off the listed rate. So, on that basis I called, mentioned the web special and was told that there was availability at the special rate, but I was asked to call back in 15 minutes because the person I was speaking with couldn't make the reservation at that time. I did call back in 15 minutes, but was promptly told there were no rooms available for the dates I had earlier been assured were available. I have no way of knowing if the rooms were available or not at the 'special' price, but it is my assumption that I was told there was not availability because they were hoping to get a full paying client. If that is their goal, to have all customers pay full price, then they should be honest and get rid of the 'specials' listed on the web site.

The owners are friendly enough, but they lost me at hello when we asked for an extra comforter and some extra pillows and were told, flat out, "We don't have any." I'm not a hospitality guru, but that seems whack to me. Things got worse the next morning at breakfast when I asked if it would be possible to get some egg whites. The cook told me "We don't do special orders." (Ok, that's sort of fair. My fault for not asking ahead of time). Then, my 10 year old son, in deciding between pork, chicken and veggie sausages asked the cook "How many sausages do I get?" She looked him right in the eye and said "You get two." And oh yeah, the wi-fi didn't work. The wi-fi didn't work. Seriously, the wi-fi didn't work. To me, that's on the level of "The electricity was out." I really think this may have been my last B&B experience. Because the fact is, you can look at photos and read Yelp reviews. But until you step foot into someone's house, it's impossible to know what's up. And by then, it's usually 10p at night and they've already swiped your credit card. B&B's are a box of chocolates. Except when you bite a lousy one, you can't put half back. And this one left me with a bitter taste.

The Inn at Buck Hollow Farm has been consistently wonderful! We first stayed here in 2009 and we're enjoying yet another cozy stay. The Inn has always been friendly, accommodating, and welcoming to our family. The food is delicious, filling and plentiful. Special dietary accommodations can be made if you let the hosts know the prior evening. The sunroom is warm, welcoming and comfortable year round. I have read the other Yelp reviews and I have to say that one must understand that WiFi is not the end all, be all of a fantastic trip. My husband was able to access WiFi from his iPad, I couldn't from an iPhone. This was a blessing in disguise for me as I had time to read from the wonderful books that are available and take the time to watch the sunset. There is a computer available if you need to check email or look for a great local adventure. The tranquility of the Inn and the bucolic setting is miles away from our hurried lifestyles and we are from a rural area! I find the Inn a perfect place for rest, reflection, relaxation and rejuvenation. We've had family from out of the country and from Florida join us on our various trips and everyone has enjoyed their stay at the Inn. We look forward to many more years of staying at Buck Hollow Farm.

After planning this trip since the beginning of 2015 to make a special trip back home to franklin county where I grew up, I thought for sure that this would be the place to stay. After reading some of the reviews that were posted here, there were a handful that were great but then there was about the same of not so great reviews based on customer service. I decided to go a head and reserve our room for a week (willing to give this place a try). Unfortunately due to unexpected family emergency we canceled every other part of our trip and the bed and breakfast was something that slipped my mind. I called them immediately once it dawned on me that I didn't cancel the reservation now just a couple days into my actual reservation. I spoke to Brad and apologized to him for not showing up but due to a family emergency we were forced to cancel our vacation. At this point he had ran my debit card for one nights transaction, and told me he filled a couple days of my reservation to another couple. I asked him to cancel the remainder of my stay, which he verified to me that did..... BUT I was still responsible the rest of the reservation!!! He tried to process my credit card 2 more times before I actually had to cancel my card for fraudulent activity by Inn at a Buck Hollow (This was after my reservation had been canceled). I understand business is business but family always comes first and if it wasn't for the unexpected emergency we would be in VT enjoying the peace and serenity that VT brings. He was ABSOLUTELY the rudest person I have ever had to deal with when it comes to customer service, he was very unsympathetic to my situation and could careless about anything except for the $$$$$. It's not like we live a couple hours away. We live in Phoenix and wanted nothing more than to make this trip like I mentioned we had been planning this trip for months down to every detail possible. I should have gone with my gut feeling about this place after reading the negative reviews, but instead I figure I would give them a chance and boy was I wrong! Just after the experience that I've had in dealing with Brad I would NEVER recommend anyone to this place!

This is a wonderful little B&B in Northern Vermont, and is definitely a quiet and relaxing, or even romantic, get away for anyone who is looking. My parents, my girlfriend, and myself decided to give this place a try for a trip/visit while my parents were up. We did book about a month or 2 weeks out, and didn't have any problems getting the rooms. My mom picked it out specifically due to the fact that it was pet friendly. (My mom has a Chihuahua that is very much like a discover card... she never leaves home without it... err, him.) If you check out their website, you'll be able to see the owner's wonderful cats and dogs that are usually hiding someone on the property, if not looking for your attention. ;-) The location is great. Nestled off the beaten path, err... road, and set between a few rolling hills and plenty of wooded acreage. It is a beautiful scene and get-away that's great to see any season of the year. Though I highly recommend mid to late fall with the changing colors of the leaves and foliage. The owner's are VERY nice people. Greeting us and helping us with our bags, giving us information about the house, area, and the sites to see. They even suggested a few nice places for us to grab dinner the local towns, although they also offered a cooked dinner in the B&B as well. The family den area is very nice and cozy, with plenty of places to sit and read, watch a bit of TV, check your email, or play a game of chess. There is even a wood burning stove if you just want to sit by the heat/fire and talk. There are also large glass windows/doors that let in plenty of light and offer a view of the back yard and pool area. The word "back yard" doesn't provide much justice either because the view is actually very nice/pleasant. The rooms are very nice, well kept, and definitely inviting. My parents stayed downstairs in the "Presidential Suite" which has a canopy bed, and a little sitting room attached, along with a private bath and a sliding door for access to the back yard. My mom thought this room would be best for letting the dog in and out when/if needed. The hard wood floors, and wood post bed make this room feel a bit old, but in a good way! Me and my girl stayed in the Foliage room upstairs, which had a HUGE king bed, private bath, and a small TV to fall asleep too. :-P The bed was very comfy, and the overall room was very clean. The bathroom had a very classic modern feel to it, which I kept talking about during our stay. It was a neat bathroom... LOL In the morning we were all welcomed with a nice, and healthy, breakfast. Lime zest pancakes with turkey bacon, diced potatoes, and coffee/juice. Top off the pancakes with some local Vermont maple syrup and it's almost heavenly! Overall this was a great experience (though a bit of a drive), and I would HIGHLY recommend it for a weekend get-away. Great for hiking on the property or in the area, and the city of Burlington isn't far away if you want to get out and do some shopping. If you in the marketplace for a quick retreat, I'd suggest checking this one out.

I was not a big fan of B&B's until I stayed here. My partner and I were looking for a nice affordable place to stay for a romantic weekend away from the city. It is out of the way and I liked that, the rooms were warm (nice, since there was a random snow storm the night we arrived) and they have a jacuzzi, which we used both nights of our stay. We booked this place last minute and were able to get the last available room for the weekend. The food was wonderful and the staff were very kind. There are animals in the main house part, but I could not smell them. The owners were out of town the weekend we stayed, the people there watching over everything were as kind as can be, they really made us feel at home, with out being at home. We were blessed to have one of the dogs and cat be our tour guide as we walked around the back property.

We still cannot stop talking about this place and want to go back as soon as we can. If you are an animal lover and especially if you travel with your critter friend, this place is for you. The hosts are awesome, the house is amazing, and the bed was so cozy. It is very country cozy and the stop for us was way too short on our honeymoon, wish we'd discovered it earlier to stay for more than one night.
