We've been dining here now since TGP opened over a year ago. Over all, we've been extremely impressed with the quality, value and consistency offered. The only minor negative is that at busy times you can expect to wait quite a while for your food. But honestly, it's always worth the wait!! There were some recent modest price increases, but they seem to have been offset fairly by even larger portions. The home-fries have changed recently too -- they are bigger chunks of potato and seem to be seasoned more aggressively. A welcome update. For breakfast, the Veggie Eggs Benedict is my favorite, and it is always on point. My wife has had the egg/cheese sandwich the last few times we've dined there, and you can't beat it for $4.99 with hand-cut home-fries. Coffee is fresh, hot and plentiful. Service is always with a smile, and unless you dine during the weekend at busy times, it's very speedy. I love hot sauces with my breakfast, and I like that I can choose from Frank's, Sriracha or Tabasco at TGP. But it would be even better to have available some of the excellent local hot-sauces available, such as the delicious Peach Ginger Habanero" from Vermont Pepper Works. Think you could make that happen, TGP? I'm upping the rating to 5-stars because of the consistent quality and good value for money. This is a local favorite.

The new go to diner for my fiancé and I. Quick, inexpensive and simple food. I have yet to try something I don't like. Love going for breakfast, which is conveniently served all day! I've been keen on ordering the 'Americana' : eggs served how you please, homefries crisped to perfection, toast (I usually opt out) and choice of fresh toast or pancake short stack which obviously comes with Vermont maple syrup. All for $8.99! Can't beat it! Love that we can fill up for $20! Friendly, consistent staff always tentative to refills/needs of tables. Long time coming for this sort of spot in the bay. Don't go anywhere!

Great food, great service, great locations, hearty portions and all the breakfast items you could ever want. When the pantry is running dry, head for the Plate.

What I can say is that there may be a Guilty Plate, but that does not mean a guilty wallet, or less than generous portions either! So, as expected, peak weekend breakfast hours are packed. Expect a wait, but with the price it's worth it. However, if you're like me and don't care when you get your brekkies just before or after the rush that happens on weekend from 9-11a other than that, waiting is not an issue. I was shocked how quickly food came out to the table. Huge portions, fantastic, hearty toast, and the waitresses, while sometimes not the most social with customers were both attentive and courteous. Did I mention that it's cheap..? No really, every time I waddle away from this place, I am amazed at the value in their menu. Left there completely satisfied, feeling like I could become a regular without sacrificing too much dough and certainly not skimping on quality.

I have eaten at this diner about 3 times now and enjoy the consistency of the food, service and atmosphere. Prices are affordable. Place is clean and bright. I look forward to my next visit!

I've been to this breakfast place a number of times on my trips to Vermont. The decor has a hint of 50's 60's diner about it. The food portions are hearty, and the waitstaff is very kind. It can get a little rowdy, so if you are looking for a quieter morning eatery you may want to look elsewhere.

We tried it, liked it and became regulars. Then today they refused to seat us because one (1) of our party, who was joining us from across town, was delayed by snowy roads. What's more, the waitperson was downright snotty about it. :-(

My wife and I stopped in to try this new place out for lunch. We got the mozzarella sticks to start. They were tasty and come six to an order. She ordered their egg salad sandwich with fries. This was also tasty and the sandwich was loaded with egg salad. The fries were excellent! This was a great portion of food for the price. I ordered their veggie burger with fries. Again, the fries were excellent! The toppings on the burger seemed fresh. The veggie burger itself was nothing fancy. I could have likely bought the same burger at my local grocery store. The meal was good and again a good value for the portion. The service was ok. We entered and waited to be seated following their sign posted. We were greeted after a few minutes and then told to grab a seat anywhere. Our waitress was nice and thorough with the orders. I feel that she could have been a bit more attentive to refills, following up on the meal and clearing the table. There were a handful of people in the place at the time. Conclusion: good food at attractive prices. This place and people are new and it feels like they are still getting into the swing of things. We will go back for breakfast.

One of the best burgers I have had in a very long time. Their special of the day was a California burger on a home made cheddar jalapeno roll, the burger was cooked to perfection and the taste exploded in your mouth with a little zing at the end.

The Guilty Plate certainly fills a void in Malletts Bay. It's a standard diner, with good prices and decent food. Just an idea about prices: Omelets are about $7, and good-sized breakfast sandwiches are $4-5 with homefries. My favorite thing about breakfast was the homefries; they were crispy and well-seasoned. I would love to see more local and organic ingredients, especially with everything in season right now and fantastic farmstands right around the corner. Organic eggs, please! They do have real VT maple syrup, which is always a plus. I know it's a diner, but seeing some VT stuff on the menu is great. Local jam? My dad ordered the Americana and chose French toast, which was mediocre at best. It was thin and kind of soggy and could really benefit from a bread upgrade. I was disappointed in the $4 fruit cup which was just watermelon, cantaloupe and grapes. Berries would have been really great. I ordered the Greek breakfast sandwich with spinach, feta, tomatoes and onions, and the flavor was great and was a great portion for the price. I had ordered gluten-free bread (which they have!) and the roll upon which the sandwich came looked suspiciously gluten-y. Before I even had a chance to ask about it, my server came over, apologized, and replaced it with gluten-free bread. Thanks, Taylor! My mom's gyro omelet had some meat but was missing the tomato that it advertised and was overall kind of "meh." She didn't love it. The coffee wasn't that great and we had a little bit of slowness with refills, service and time waiting for food, but overall, the place was decent! I think that as they're open for longer, they'll get into a groove. I like the booths and all of the seating at the bar. It is kind of loud, but not extreme, and there were a lot of kids running around and a very chill atmosphere. I think that the place is clean and the food good, though not fancy. Overall, it's a good diner. :)

Great diner near the Starlight Inn. Friendly and decorated very well. We were there for breakfast and found the food great. The special was prime rib hash which had a great taste! Eggs and everything else were fine as well. Will go back when visiting the area. We were there at 7am and plenty of room on a Saturday but heard it does get packed.

Good service, good food - cooked just the way you like it. Their breakfast menu is extremely good and it is delivered hot and fast. If you do have to wait for a table it usually doesn't take too long. Their lunch menu is also quite tasty... but it's the breakfast menu that grabs my palette every time.

Had lunch there on Friday June 5th 2015. the wait staff to Customer was almost 1 to 1 but it still took 10-15 minutes for our order to be placed. ordered sandwiches with french fries. french fries were good to excellent. sandwiches were okay. Prices were a little above average. don't think I'll be going back.

At the price point it's hard to have complaints. This place is clean and service was efficient. The place was bustling! Sure, I'd a bit more variety in the menu (it's large but not very original) - but overall they got it right for the area. Serving size is generous and coffee flows endlessly. We'll be back.

Now well into three or four times here, my impressions need updating. They definitely got it right with this place. A renovated video store is now a very cute diner. Plenty of window seats and well placed booths. Nice service, quick, hot food and just right size portions. The blueberry pancakes were LOADED with blueberries and the western omelet was done just the way I like. Specials were great... $10 for 2 breakfasts that were more than enough... Service was fair at best. Waitress talked with the cook all the time we were there. She asked if we wanted coffee refills, then immediately went back and talked to the cook until our breakfast was finished... then she realized her mistake.

There are better places. The owners of the Guilty Plate Diner in Colchester should feel guilty over the extremely poor breakfast service that was provided by their staff on the morning of June 13th. After reading several reviews of this dinner from Seven Days, social media and online restaurant review sites the decision was made to invest in the time and gas to drive out to the Bay to try this place out. Upon entering the dinner the first thing noticed was how disturbingly loud this establishment is. The interior has high ceilings, stand alone booths and industrial walls. The dining room is effectively an echo chamber. There is nothing to absorb the sound. A semi full dining room served up an overwhelming loud clatter from the reverberation of unimpeded noise bouncing around. As this was a solo meal I opted for a seat at the counter, just to the left of the open kitchen window. It is always a plus to be able to see how the line staff operates. What wasn't a plus were the several waitresses who were hanging by the window and counter area catching up on their texting and cell phone obligations. It was a cool, damp morning. Steak and eggs were the order of the day. The stout, young waitress took my order. Steak medium, eggs over medium, white toast with double extra butter and on a special request I asked for grilled onions on my home fries. Not an unusual request by most standards. After getting through the Burlington Free Press my server presented my order. On a large platter were my steak, eggs, toast and a small plastic cup with extra butter. On a separate plate were the home fries. But they were naked home fries. There were no grilled onions. I pointedly asked my server, "Didn't I order grilled onions on my home fries?" She looked at her ticket and replied yes. She then took the plated home fries back to the kitchen window and, presumably, asked for the grilled onions. The expectation was that the home fries would be back shortly but that wasn't to be the case. After ten minutes the home fries had not arrived. The balance of the uneaten breakfast was now cold and unappetizing. After catching the server's attention she came over. Telling her it was a mistake to come in this morning I pointed out the lack of the breakfast potatoes being served at all and the now cold platter of eggs, toast and steak. She seemed shocked, shocked I tell you, especially when I walked on this dismal service. Chef Ramsey, from Hell's Kitchen, could certainly have a field day correcting this operation. This diner is loud in an unappealing way, waitresses should find a better place to do their texting than at the front counter and the servers need to do their job correctly. There are better places trying harder that deliver a quality dining experience than this place. You should seek out those other establishments.

40 minutes after being seated the waitress came to ask what we had ordered. Not a good sign...we were at 55 minutes when the food finally arrived. Before that we had to ask three times for our water and coffee. Apologetic, but you could see that both of the wait staff were new at the job, or maybe just not their calling. It was busy, or had been so to some extent I can understand. However, both my wife and I have been in the restaurant business and you can tell when it is the situation or the servers. Food was Ok. Nothing special, just diner food. The open faced roast beef sandwich is served on what seems to be wonder bread, so if I were to order it again I would see if I could get some better bread. Wife's egg sandwich was fine. Fries were good...greasy and salty, but good. Prices seem fair. Decor is very nice for a diner. I was impressed with that. So, to summarize, grades are: Service C - Food B - Decor B+

My mom and I went the first Saturday they were open for business and to be fair I think its important to keep that in mind when reading this review. We were greeted quickly and sat quickly as well. The inside was nice. Drinks came quickly. Our waitress was nice and had a funny personality. They serve lunch and breakfast. We decided to both get breakfast. They were out of home fries so they offered their fresh cut fries or a hash brown as a substitute. Not a big deal and we both decided to try the fries. Also ordered gravy to go with them. Food came out fast. My eggs were fine. My moms eggs were too salty. Both orders of fries were too salty. She couldn't eat them but I did. Gravy was salty too but I was able to eat that as well. We told our waitress and she took care of it no problem. She wasn't going to charge us anything but I wanted to pay for my meal as I ate it all. We will be back again. I will update the review after our next visit and after they have been open for more than a week. Give The Guilty Plate Diner a try and support a Colchester restaurant.

This family has made great dinner food in VT since I have lived here - 1993. I have had breakfast and lunch and it has always been great. Can't wait to get to a fish fry!

We went here for breakfast on 10/19. It was busy, but we were seated at a booth immediately. Our waiter was fast and just the right amount of attentive (not overly intense on checking on us, but my coffee was never emptied or cool). Food was good. Standard diner fare. Prices were amazing. I can't think of any place in the region that you can get a large breakfast sandwich with a generous portion of home fries for under $5. Seriously, enough food that we weren't hungry again until mid afternoon after eating breakfast at 8. Anyway, we will definitely be back again. Happy to have a breakfast restaurant so close to our house!
