Been here several times in the past & was always happy with the food. This time the portions were so small we all left hungry! I'm not a big person and always leave food on my plate - not at this diner. Also, We waited for for 45 min for pancakes & eggs.

I've been living in Castleton for the past several months and have dined at the Birdseye several times - both alone and with friends. Come here for good old fashioned comfort food done well in a hometown diner atmosphere: breakfast, lunch or dinner. The staff is always friendly, cheerful, and attentive. $4 Burger Night every Wednesday - totally worth it! You won't be disappointed.

Bad service and bad food. My roast beef dinner was bland and our waitress never returned to ask how our food was. Really disappointed after hearing how good this place was.

If you're a diner aficionado, this is a gem of a diner you do not want to pass up. The breakfast specials are great and the atmosphere is very laid back. Pull out the Sunday paper or your iPad , order breakfast, kick back and relax. The service is great and the wait staff extremely friendly.

Go here! I've been coming here for years for breakfast with my family. It NEVER disappoints. The portions are huge and everything is freshly made and wonderful. Even the coffee is good. Get the bab-ba-louie bread - it's homemade and great. There's always a good local crowd here, which means you get to hear all of the good gossip.

Disgusting. We waited 45 minutes for our breakfast to arrive only to receive cold eggs. When we mentioned this to our server she was surly -- almost hesitant to resolve the issue. Also, the owner stopped by on this busy Sunday morning and proceeded to make herself an English muffin right in front of guests without an sanitary precautions. When she licked the knife that was really gross. Makes us want to call the local board if health. Save yourself the time, money and bad attitude and go somewhere else. Yuck.

Great classic diner: hot, delicious coffee, perfectly poached eggs, great hashbrowns, and they even had Tabasco sauce! Will definitely be back if I'm in the area! This was a fantastic diner experience, complete with locals griping at the counter; it was actually fitting and A-OK with me.

Real good breakfast. Was looking for oatmeal on the menu, but no luck. Went with the hash and cheese omelet which was good. Service was polite but didn't ever get a refill of coffee which will knock it down a little. I will go back and recommend to friends.

The perfect old school diner. Typical diner fare with a local Vermont flair. Local crowd, college kids and seasonal visitors. Great place to unwind and have a great meal with a cold beer. Perfect place for Sunday breakfast. Used to be just the classic 1940's Silk City Diner but extended into the building next door and can now accommodate more people. Must try the Birds Eye Onion Rings!!!!

They advertise on the internet as having some organc food, including organc hamburgers, but when I went, there was no mention of it on the diner-style menu. When I asked the staff, they looked blankly at me apparently not even knowing what organc beef was. There was a sticker on the window indicating that they were part of the "local food network," but again the staff seemed to know nothing about any local produce being offered. The food is exactly what you'd expect from a diner, but don't let their claims on the internet lure you into thinking you'll get a local or organc meal here.

We were out for a drive a desided we needed a chocolate malt. The Birdseye is one of the few places in the area that has them. ( many places in VT don't even know what a malt is) The malts here are worth every sip, but be prepared to use your spoon. :) Everyone is friendly which makes the whole adventure a treat.

Friendly service, good portions, great flavor, and maple syrup. Ask for the breakfast menu at night if you're looking for it. Cool looking old diner too.
