This place was recommended to us by our Airbnb host, Ellen. It was delicious. We drove in from nyc, and weren't expecting much. This place blew us away. It seems like a place that would be in the city, but without the large crowds and hiked up prices. The cheese corn risotto croquettes were mouthwatering. After the appetizer our entrees arrived shortly after. My burger was fresh with perfect thin cut french fries and a lovely tasting side salad. It's great that they use the local beef! My boyfriends meatloaf was so flavorful. You can taste the spicy chorizo in every bite with a perfectly whipped garlic mash. To top it off, they have a great selection of craft beer! Can't go wrong. Service was friendly and fast. A must-try in the town of Bristol.

Something here has changed and, for the better. The portions seemed double of what they used to be and the entree's seemed stepped up a notch as far as the presentation and the flavor. All four of us raved about our dinner. We'll certainly keep coming back! One of the folks we were dining with, was vacationing for a full month in the Northeast and stated it was the best meal of his vacation. Great job Bobcat!

Last night was my first time here. I took a chance and ordered an unusual sounding entrée: sweet potato, kidney bean and quinoa tostada with red cabbage slaw and corn relish. Delicious! Also good service, intimate atmosphere, and an extensive beer and wine menu. I will be back.

I have nothing bad to say about the Bobcat. I've eaten here several times and have never been disappointed. The wings are amazing. The tofu banh mi is my favorite. When people come visit, I bring them here and they all rave about the good food, beer and service. Make reservations! Even if you're coming on a week night.

Came here last night for my husband's birthday dinner - it's one of his favorite places. They list the IBU on their beer menu, which we like. We were surprised to find the place is under new ownership; and thusly, they are not able to sell any of their own beer this month. Not to worry, they had a great selection of local and worldwide beers to choose from. We each started with the cold beet soup - what a lovely creamy concoction! He had the venison and chorizo meatloaf; I had an ambitious vegetarian tostada. It had the whole kitchen sink thrown on it. I could take up the whole review trying to list its ingrdedients, and fail, but let's try: crispy corn tortilla, quinoa, sweet potato, watercress, jicama, grilled pineapple, pepitas... basically, one of the appetizer salads was thrown on top of the tostada. This is actually why I ordered it - I had been considering the watercress & jicama salad, and saw that I could get it on one of the entrees and still have room to order the beet soup. If it seems I am putting off telling you my opinion of this tostada, I guess it's because I'm still not sure. There were way too many variables. I ended with a chocolate sorbet, which was perfect and a generous two scoops, making it nicely sharable. Overall the Bobcat always pleases us.

Great beer selection and very nice, cozy atmosphere (you can tell how they care for decor given the bathroom - a usual test of mine) They have some great dishes with authentic ingredients local to Vermont, and the beer selection is top notch (and quite affordable!) A satisfying dinner for two with drinks should cost about $50 I would say for Bristol this is the best place to go if you are looking for a good beer

Great atmosphere. Lovely old pub type place. Very interesting menu; steaks, burgers, curries, pot stickers, salads. Plus a bar offering lots of different craft beers, ales etc.

I think that Bobcat is the best place to eat in Greater Middlebury. Their beer is fairly good and they offer half-pints and tasting portions so you can try more than one. As a vegetarian I really appreciate that they always have several vegetarian items on the menu and they stay away from the standard vegetarian items that I get really tired of: pasta and veggie burger. However, last year they had two incredible vegetarian dishes that they took off in the summer: the butternut squash risotto and the black bean burger tostada. I was hoping that maybe they would make a return this winter but that does not seem to be the case. Their current vegetarian fare is definitely above average but the risotto and the tostada may have honestly been the two best vegetarian plates that I've had at any New American restaurant, not just in Vermont but anywhere. Please bring them back Bobcat!

Great service, which actually started with my phone call to make a reservation. Their down-home graciousness continued throughout the evening. Ambiance was warm and had local feeling. Nothing high-falluttin'. The burger was excellent. The two other people I was with practically licked their plates, too. Definitely recommend.

We've been here about 6 times now and always had great meals. The service is top notch, friendly, and professional. The bartenders are great and you can sit at the bar if it's really busy. The food is really amazing! Great meats, fishes, and veggie dishes. They brew all their own beers and have a nice variety. A+

We stopped in at the Bobcat after relaxing up at the Bristol Falls for the afternoon, and I'm very glad we made the stop. I was slightly concerned that it would be too busy, but it seems like reservations aren't really an issue there, as we sat down immediately and it never completely filled up. We decided to split some appetizers, and without asking they gave us our three dishes already split, with more food than would be on a single dish - and they didn't even charge us for it! Talk about amazing service, going way above what I expected. This did result in us being very full and having to take some back home, but that's perfectly fine! I would absolutely return to the Bobcat. The beer was good, the food delicious, and the service superb.

Bobcat definitely wins for the best food I had in Bristol while on vaca. Great beers and innovative food. I had the Farmer's plate for an app, which came with awesome flatbread, local chicken liver pâté, local goats milk cheese, and veggies. It was fantastic. Followed that up with the taco salad (with tofu) and it was delicious. Bobcat, to my surprise, was very kid friendly and offered a solid kids menu. They were happy, which means we were happy. Service was friendly but on the slow side. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in town.

Considering all the hype my friends gave this place, I decided to go here with a friend to eat out. Service was good for the most part, and the waitress give me some good recommendations or their beer. Their homebrews are quite extensive! This is the place to go if you're looking to try some great Vermont beers. I had the Lincoln lager and was blown away with its crispness. YUM. However, the food we ordered I found to be subpar. I ordered the Thai Basil Marinated Chicken Breast and it wasn't very tender and soft. In addition, they put the noodles in the coconut soup and I found the soup to be too salty and ruin my noodles. The food can be hit-or-miss, but the beer is a must-try.

I'm a big fan of the Bobcat Café. It has a become a tradition now to visit the Bobcat Café every time I visit my family in Vermont. The atmosphere is warm and cozy and the waitresses are friendly and personable. To start out, there are a number of house brewed beers to choose from. My favorites include the Downtown Brown, the seasonal maple porter, and the imperial stout. The food is a bit pricey, but well worth it. Entrees are artistically presented, well-proportioned, and, most importantly, taste greate. I came here with my parents last night and everyone was satisfied with their meals. I had the Cornmeal Crusted Haddock, my mother had the Teryiaki Marinated Tofu Tempura, and my father had the Maple Brined Pork Rined. We topped it off with a deliciously sweet and creamy maple encrusted crème brulee. Can't wait for my next visit to Vermont!

Great beer and even better wings. Very nice atmosphere. The bartender was great!

  • Aaron E.

The food is pretty good and the atmosphere is nice - a good interior in an old historic building. The place seems to have gotten a bit full of itself over time as it has gotten more popular and busier. It's best now to have a reservation if you want to get in. On a recent visit without a reservation, I was nonplussed to be told there would be a 30 minute wait when many tables were open - and then that we would only be allowed 60 minutes until a reservation party arrived. Not, IMO, the best service.

I had the best burger I've ever had in my life sitting at the bar while in Bristol on business. What an awesome bartender, he is the old fashioned kind that actually pays attention to you and is friendly and helpful! They were very accommodating about my unusual diet as well. I will be going back for sure!

A casual relaxing atmosphere with excellent food. Staff was pleasant and timely we received our appetizers right away. Portions are more than friendly and extremely tasty. Pub fare options are easier on the wallet, the bobcat burger was excellent.

Best restaurant in Addison by far. Quaint local foodie atmosphere. Super crowded on weekends and I'd always make reservations anyway. Great wings and I always get the meatloaf. Large portions. They used to have duck egg rolls, which were the best egg rolls in VT. Menu ranges from about $12-$20. Beer is tops as well. Brewed on site. Get the pepper stout if they have it. Up here on vacation? It's a must for local Vt flavor. Perfect spot to eat after a scenic drive around the Green Mts. Worth a 35 min drive from Burlington too. Only down side is it's a bit cool in the winter. Try to not sit by the door or dress warm.

Pretty good food for quaint Bristol. Their burgers are very good, topped with sharp cheddar from Grafton Village and applewood bacon on a powdery baker's bun. So are the accompanying herbed frites and spicy aioli. I also tried the braised pork enchilada verde with a smoked cabbage salad and roasted poblanos -- amaze balls. One disappointment on the menu are the chicken wings. Although tasty (especially the apricot teriyaki glaze) and sourced not too far away (Misty Knolls Farm), the size of the wings were puny, about half the size of what I'm used to eating. Also, I don't think their beer stacks up to other Vermont producers like The Alchemist, Lawson's, or Hill Farmstead.

  • Ian S.

It's a great place! The food and atmosphere are both excellent. I've never had a bad meal here. Once or twice the service has been less than great but on the whole, another A. That said, I wish they had a local root beer. I'm not a beer drinker but do love a good root beer. We have local root beers around Vermont, so it would be nice to see them serve one of them instead of Barq's.

Beer might be ok. Not sure as bartender was AWFUL. We asked for APA. Told us 4 times they had no IPA after serving an IPA sample. Hmm???? I am about 30% sure we had what he said. He was rude, short and forgot half the order. Finally paid and moved on. Might be ok place. No idea based on my experience. Would rate very low based on my experience.

  • Juliet B.

We have visited here a couple times when we are nearby, and just recently went back for dinner and brews. The beer is fantastic, and elusive as they do not bottle it or distribute it. There is a draught for everyone- a light 4% lager, or a hearty 9% bock. Well rounded beverages. Which, can be delightfully paired with their food! We split a "bucket" of wings- which are local, happy chickens and taste much better. We moved on and had a GIANT, local beef burger cooked to perfection with great buns. The Mussles in whatever sauce they came in (it was almost like a seafood stew) were incredible. Paired with a toasted slice of baguette and it was perfection. Our bellies were very happy. They apparently change up their menu frequently, but keep some staples on there. It is always busy, even on a weeknight (a good sign), and you can see the peppering of locals who have their "local" mugs. If you are REMOTELY near Bristol, it is totally worth stopping by. Cheers!

We've been three times and each time great. Make sure you make reservations. The atmosphere is great, the staff top notch. Tasty food. Vegan, vegetarian friendly. The Beer is awesome. Brewed on premises. Fully detailed beer menu, right down to the ibu,s. Really worth the hour drive. We are happy we found this place.

Most people who have reviewed this restaurant have had nothing but great things to say, and I honestly think people need a little more of a well informed review. I've been to the Bobcat several times and had nothing but horrible experiences each time. To start, if you're looking to go for beer and a great bar, I highly recommend. However if you're going to eat do yourself the favor a look elsewhere. Yesterday, my family and I went and each got burgers and fries. As a professional chef, I know burgers are not the most difficult item on the menu to create. Yet when we received our meals, each of us took one bite to realize the meat was raw, not rare, but raw and very bloody. Four hours later my family and I were all loosing our lunch to food poisoning. Probably one of the worst meals I have ever eaten. Who would have thought a simple burger and fries could be so easy to mess up. Believe me our stomachs paid the price. Stay away from this place if you're looking to eat. If you're looking to go out for drinks however I still would recommend. Shame, my own local restaurant can't even cook their food properly. I hope this review saves somebody. Even if 1 person doesn't go, I will feel this review was worthwhile. Take care Yelpers!

Wow. Great food, atmosphere and service. Pork enchiladas were the best I've ever had! Make a point to go here, just reserve a table first. Place is jammed, even on Monday nights.

I ate here for the first time last night. I have to say that my meal was incredible. I had the Caribbean jerked pork loin with sweet potato coconut flan, roasted vegetable and kidney bean hash. The pork was expertly cooked and the seasoning was so good. The marriage of the spice rub and citrus was perfect. The portion was ample and the sides worked nicely. I have only eaten here once but I'm definitely going back.

Went there on a whim last Sunday, place is busy! We happened to arrive 15 minutes early, by the time we left there was a line out the door. Wings were good and very generous portion. Salad was interesting and good. Fries are AMAZING. We had two wait staff "attending" us the original waitress was great, some how when the second waitress brought our bill they charged us $2.00 for milk that went with the tea. It was too busy to complain so I took it off the tip, which is very, very rare for me. I can see why the place is so popular. Great atmosphere. It was nice to be able to sample the beers.

What a great little place! Not only is their beer out of this world (we attended a beer festival prior featuring their beer prior to making our reservations), but the locally-sourced food is out-of-this-world. The atmosphere is lively, the bar is great (as was the bar-tender...no wonder they have a loyal club of patron mug-owners), and the food was not to be believed. We tried a smattering of things on the menu and none of it disappointed. The waitress was knowledgable and was able to let us know not only where the ingredients from our dishes were from, but generally how they were prepared. Overall, a fantastic experience. Can't wait to go back!

I think this is the best food in Bristol & I cannot believe it took me so many years to buy into the flatlander influence in my home town. The feel of the place is a little more upscale, a bit yuppie. The beer is excellent (they brew their own), and their food is fresh and delicious. I love their local sourced menu. It's perhaps not as locally-sourced as Mary's down the road, but I slightly prefer Bobcat over Mary's for the downtown location and social vibe - guess it depends on the goal of your outing! More for small groups or dates rather than the family scene because of the limited seating and price. The waitresses were fast and friendly. I will be making this a go-to when I'm back in town.

Love the beer, the food & the company. It's the best in the area. Hamburgers & salads are the way to go (but you can't really go wrong with anything on the menu!) 5 stars, excellent.

This is some of the best food in the greater Burlington area. I went once and although I had just their burger, was impressed with the depth of flavors and freshness of the meal and ingredients. Highly recommend those in the Burlington area checking this place out

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. Delightfully limited menu...but still too many mouth watering things to choose from. I think this might be my new favorite "local" restaurant. You must try the Housemade Sage gnocchi with butternut sqaush. Sooooooo GOOD! The restaurant is warm and cozy and small...so you might want to consider making a reservation.

The beer selection was great and I enjoyed the IPA. The food was unique and we all loved the variety of choices. The wait staff could use an attitude adjustment and I would have had more beer if they came around more.

This place is a MUST! Great microbrew beer (usually have six or more on tap from lager to IPA to stout!). The place is small and cozy but you feel like a regular from the get-go! The appetizers are yummy and unique! The chili-crusted salmon taco salad is FANTASTIC! I would recommend making a reservation since it a really popular spot (we got there around 6 on a Thursday evening and had to wait about 30 minutes for a table for 2!). Don't let that keep you away, make a reservation and enjoy local vegetables, cheeses, and super food that you won't find anywhere else! Can't wait to go back.

We drive almost a 90 minute drive from northern VT to eat at the Bobcat as frequently as possible... usually 4 times a year. In my opinion, there is no better restaurant in Vermont or New Hampshire. Their specials are always creatively devised recipes. As a microbrewery, they are also one of the finest in the U.S. If you like Imperial IPA or Stout, you can frequently find one here. The atmosphere is friendly, casual, and relaxed with a bushel full of character. Make reservations on weekends. They are almost always packed. LOVE THIS CAFE. I hope they never change.

This restaurant is located at 5 Main in Bristol. It is in a historic building and has an elaborate but well taken care of old bar as a centerpiece. While this place is part bar, it is more importantly a culinary gem. What makes this more incredible is that it is located in Bristol, a city that proudly puts forward its conventional American values and seems like an improbable location for such an innovative restaurant. They have one of my standard favorites on the menu, french fries. The fries here are not the highlight. They are somewhat better than McDonalds, herb sprinkled and served with a very good spicy dipping sauce but also have little flavor and no skin. The best thing I had here was the avocado, green chile cheesecake. I didn't know what to expect with this, definitely not a dessert and both interesting and incredibly good. The corn based crust was a great addition. Another stand out entree was the succotash. An interesting and innovative combination of fresh vegetable ingredients. Everything here was presented and served in a careful, artfully arranged way with interesting accents and accompaniments. The other items we tried here were comparably or nearly as good and equally thoughtful and creatively put together. This place is probably the best overall restaurant that I have visited in this state.

Four stars if you stick to the pub dishes and beer, otherwise three. Service is fine. The air conditioning can't keep up with a full house so be prepared for that if you go on a hot Saturday night.

I went again just for a drink and dessert. I had the porter which was smooth, rich, and delicious. My guy ordered a cocktail which was fantastic too. It had raspberry puree, crushed lime, simple syrup, a Brazilian liqueur made from cane sugar. It was so good! The dessert was the best! A key lime flan with mojito syrup over a house made graham cracker. OOhhh so good. It was fresh citrusy sweetness with smooth creamy finish. Fantastic!

BOBCAT IS GREAT!!!! I love their steak and taters... They also have great wings. Homebrew beer that is unbelievable. Also I would recommend the duck to duck lovers. So goood. Also both bartenders are great too. I get pretty rowdy sometimes and they are very classy and respectful. Try the homebrews.....

I love love love this place! Have been here a few times now and have never been disappointed. Food and drink and service and ambiance are all absolutely amazing. Perhaps a bit expensive for the area, but worth it for the quality of everything. And c'mon, they make their own beer AND serve classy food (not pub grub). Here's a sampling of what I have tried here so far: Mushroom/tempeh lasagna- perhaps the best entree I've had here- very filling, delicious flavors, had an arugula/beet salad and some red pepper sauce; took half the lasagna home for lunch the next day (and it even reheated well!) Meatloaf- we ordered the meatloaf to split between the two of us, and when it came out, it was on two plates, already cut and divided out for us! I was SO impressed, and it tasted very good! Duck spring rolls- a very classy verison of the chinese favorite. used to be my fave app here until I tried... Bison Nachoes- yes that's right, crumbled ground bison meat on nachoes- nachoes that were SO stuffed with toppings (tomatoes, jalapenos, lettuce, cheese, etc etc), my only complaint is that there were not enough chips (and that is a complaint I have NEVER made regarding nachoes!). Perhaps the best nachoes I've ever had (perhaps second to my fave nachoes at Sunset) Flatbread Pizzas- I've tried a few different flavors, and they are always exciting, interesting flavor combinations. Good to split as an app, or alone for a meal. And of course, the beer. Here are all the different beers I have tried: (scores are scale of 1 to 5. 1 being the very best beer in the world, 5 being the very worst), so it's a pretty good sign that all these beers are 3 and above! Whitcomb's Wit: 1.5 belgian white style with orange peel and coriander, banana hef, light Paulaners Downtown Brown: 1.75 very good malty, caramely flavor, very light Havenly Hefeweizen: 2 slight banana, light wheat Octoberfest: 2 very good, very fall/spicy, teeny tiny bit bitter at end Winona Wheat: 2 thin but wheaty flavored. Good Scottish 90: 2 is like beer candy, no bitter, caramel and malty Lincoln Lager: 2.25 very light, but heavy wheat taste Unrepentent: 2.25 chocolate and pepper flavors, belgian stout Prayer Rock Pale Ale: 2.25 not bitter, floral/good perfumy and wheaty-amazing that it's not like a PA, no bitterness really BIL: 2.5 black IPA, roasted coffee flavor, not too bitter, not enough carbonation, dark black color Kolsch: 2.5 very wheat aftertaste but very plain Calypso: Double Red 2.5 a little bitter, very good flavor, almost like a red/brown ale (hoppy red with smooth bitter finish) Dennis Hop'RD: 2.5 very flavorful, floral, not too hoppy, not bitter, carbonated nicely (yeasty flavor with sublte bitterness) Dry Hop #5: 2.75 LIAC (Love in a canoe) dry hopped with cluster hops. Light flavored, but these hops are not so bad! Cali-com: 3 IPA, bitter, plain and typical Dry Hop #6: 3 LIAC (Love in a canoe) dry hopped with wilamette hops. Light flavored, but these hopsare horrible cat pee flavored!

The Meatloaf is incredible!!!!! I would go back just for that, however the service, atmosphere and flatbread selection are pretty excellent as well! I didn't try any of their beers but I will definitely be back to give them a shot!

The food and drink were odd--the Voodoo cocktail had so much chili pepper that the tequila and other flavors were obscured; the felafel was a fried, mashed paste with little resemblance and virtually none of the spicing of well made crunchy patties. The roasted tofu and barley were quite good, on the other hand, but the babba ghanoush lacked smokiness. So perhaps the Middle Eastern fare can be avoided for a tastier meal. The blueberry and lemon curd shortcake, laded w/whipped cream, was the star dish of the meal for two of us.

OK, let me just lead with this: no chicken ever had three legs. And no BBQ chicken dinner, anywhere, is three drumsticks. Rethink that one. I wouldn't want the Bobcat to go away, but believe all the three- and maybe four-star reviews, not the crazies: the food is hit-or-miss and overpriced by a mile--stick with comfort food, no fancy stuff! And you gotta love the beer.

I want to give The Bobcat 4 stars. I really do. But the wait staff drags the experience down. I have always been seated promptly, although I do recommend a reservation Thursday-Sunday evenings. The wait staff is clueless however. One evening my dad ordered a Mt Gay and tonic, pretty self explanatory, and the bartender did not even know what it was. We have ben going to The Bobcat since it opened, they have Mt Gay, and with the clientele, they should know what it is. At least they didn't mess up on the Grey Goose martini. The food is delicious. Comfort food. If you are looking for fine dining, go to Mary's. The Bobcat is about hamburger's, meat loaf, flatbreads, and chicken wings. On the current menu, I highly recommend the duck lasagna, the lamb burger and the haddock. The Bobcat Burger is always a good option and I was very pleased a few nights ago when it actually came out medium rare! It's hard to get restaurants to actually do medium rare. The French fries are deliciously seasoned, and served with a spicey (I want to say chile) mayonnaise, which has a kick to it, a pleasant change from ketchup and mustard. If you happen to be at the Bobcat and a large party comes in, be prepared to be ignored by your wait staff. They are immediately more concerned with a large party. It can also get very noisy, but that is part of the experience. Make sure to check out the bar. It was brought over from Plattsburg, NY and I think it is a very cool piece of furniture, if I can call it that. Overall, it is a fun place to go after a long day on the slopes for hamburgers and a beer. It is not fine dining, and it is not romantic. It's more about locals hanging out at the bar.

  • Nancy W.

We live nearby so we eat at the Bobcat often. The food is always good, occasionally great. I'm not a big fan of most of the beer, which I find is not very complex, so I usually drink wine. They have a small, modestly priced but fine wine list. The problem is how busy they always are. If you want to go Thursday-Sunday you'd better make a reservation. There is always a crowd at the bar which makes the noise level very high, but there is still an intimate feel at the tables. The service is usually very good. We always leave feeling like we've gotten our moneys worth.
