The mix of fish and chips with falafel and tacos seems eclectic at fish, but everything is cooked up fast and delicious. Having a ginger beer or root beer is a nice beverage addition to a fine meal. If you give him a chance, Dave will talk your ear off about the tartar sauce, how making mayonnaise is a lost art, and that his is made from the eggs of local free range chickens, and lovingly crafted into a delicious condiment. And it is good tartar sauce, well worth the extra charge. The place is new, and feels new. The owners say they are "living the dream" and their enthusiasm is apparent. The food is good enough to match the enthusiasm.

Perfect spot for an easy lunch in town (although it is cash only). The falafel wrap with hot-sauce is awesome as is the spicy fries (with the chipotle dipping sauce). I can't speak to the rest of the menu as this is all I have tried but i like it so much it is hard to order anything else...

This place is amazing. it is seriously some of the best food town. The crunchy tofu avocado wrap with spicy peanut sauce is fantastic. My go to. Unfortunately, I'm knocking them two stars because of their infrequent hours. I swing by regularly and are often closed. tonight being the third time in 10 days.

I really like this place, but I feel it is falling short of its potential, and therefore giving the place 4 stars until they make the necessary changes to get 5 stars. The Food: I've ordered the falafel and fries, and the fish and chips on two trips. The falafel was good, but different. It has a crunchy outer texture that really is unique, but I'm not always in the mood for unique. The tahini sauce was too thin for my taste, but didn't ruin the falafel. It would have been nice if they made a rice side to go with the falafel like most halal carts in NYC. The fried fish was excellent. It was easily some of the best fried fish I've ever had- fresh and cooked and seasoned perfectly. I loved how pieces flaked off and wasn't soggy, and held the flavors in place. It was also not too greasy. However, I did not like how they charged $1 for their tartar sauce, which was good, but should be free. The fries, I hate. Maybe it's a personal thing, but I like thin skinless fries with baker's salt (Mcdonald's style). They were also slightly soggy, which is just-- No. I bought a Mexican coke, and they charged 3 dollars for a ten oz bottle. That's ridiculous, and that in and of itself warrants a lost star. They should make some aqua fresca, put it in a huge cup, and charge $2 for it. The Atmosphere: The decor and mood of the place was nice. They have two picnic tables as well as some smaller cafe tables in the front of the store. Everything is organized in a funky bohemian style, which matches the restaurant well. The place is a bit cramped, but that's not their fault. Summary: Overall, I really like Elliot Street Fish and Chips but it is not 5 star. The fries are subpar, and the prices are higher than average, although the fish is a pretty good deal. It's ridiculous to be selling Mexican coke for $3, and I'll likely be taking my food home from now on to avoid such costs. If they added a rice option instead of fries, and made some aqua fresca and sold it at a reasonable price, then this place will become a regular spot for me.

I came here one night during the summer after a 8 hour drive, absolutely starving and in search of a good meal. I walked into Elliot Street Fish hoping to find something even though it was 9 pm and most of the town was closed. The man behind the counter told me that he was closing up for the night and had turned off the grille already, when I told him about my long journey in search of food he told me that he had made himself two pieces of fish and chips for his dinner but if I sat down with him he would gladly share. The owner was one of the kindest, most interesting people I have met on my journey across the country and it was easily the best fish and chips I've had (and I'm from the Cape). If you find yourself in Brattleboro stop by, meet the owner, and have a delicious piece of fried fish!

While it changed management mid-August 2015, the new management has kept the menu and prices intact, hasn't changed the ambiance (except now reggae isn't on constantly), and they finally have printed menus. They are also less ambiguous about their hours of operation, so Chad S. should update his review to reflect that improvement. I'm partial to the fried chicken, the sauces and the fries (though I don't know if the fries have changed along with management, but gun-to-my-head guess is that they're the same, maybe not as over-salted as was the custom with the original chef). I found the salads unsatisfying and over-priced.

So fresh and so Delicious!! Best place to stop by and pick up or eat, Fish n chips: crunchy light and big chunks of well cooked fillet. I can tell it was fresh. Super flakey and just the perfect layer of a crunchy batter. Cooked very well. You will def say "mmmm....omg,mmm...so good!" Because that's exactly what I did. Falafel: well mixed crunchy and not as oily, the sauce was nice and light as well (tahini), also the spicy chilly sauce.. woah was it a nice kick! Service: the guy that served us was super chill and knows all about the food. Ask him and he will tell you all you need to know. Even though theres a huge menu right at the register that already gives you that info... just saying! Decor: cool vibe, nice picnic style benches, bright with a beach feel over all, and a platform with stool seating at the front window to ppl watch as you munch on....also whimsical from the checkered floor to the white panel 3d looking cieling. All in all great food, I would come here for a nice fish and chips fill or falafel again. This place is definitely a GEM! Got rockstar parking right in front. P.s. Nice selection of Roots Reggae playing as I waited for the freshness.

So unassuming yet so delicious. Vegan choices and friendly staff make this a destination, not a place to visit just when it's convenient.

We were driving through and needed a place to stop for our toddler. This place was perfect!!!! A clean restaurant run by a nice couple, there was a chalk board, kids books and a high chair!! Fish was fresh and delicious, it had a great crunchy exterior, and the Belgium fries were from real potatoes. Do glad we found this little gem instead of a generic place. Thanks!!!

The rumor is true. I've been dying to try this place. I'm picky about fish and chips. This is the best I've had in New England. Wild caught haddock. House made tartar. Fresh hand cut fries. Super friendly and welcoming staff. Can't wait to return!

I'm so happy to have falafel back in town and the added fish and chips is a huge bonus. Great fresh food, reasonable price and the location right downtown provides easy access to parking, shops, etc. They don't take credit cards but will do a local check or of course cash. My only minor complaint was the fixings in the falafel had a bit of lemon rind in it which if intentional was too strong a flavor at times. But that wasn't enough for me to give it four stars. Great place, check it out!

Oh my word. I'd heard good things about this food and wanted to try it with my friend. Here's the backstory. I had just woken up from an impromptu nap and really needed a Coke to clear my head. And, since I don't drink beer when I eat, I thought nothing would go better with my food than a Coke. I wasn't necessarily in the mood for this fare, but was willing to adjust since it was on my list. My friend and I walked in to an EMPTY room. The boy behind the counter said hello. I said I was looking for a Coke to drink (his beverage selection was limited at best) and he launched into a moralistic lecture. "I[sic] got no problem if you want to bring a Coke in. I just don't sell it. I don't believe in it. I won't sell anything that I wouldn't put in my body. And I don't believe in Coke or Pepsi because I wouldn't put that into my body." He could have just said, "No, I don't sell it. Sorry." Bear in mind that the entirety of his menu is deep-fried. And that is--apparently--perfectly acceptable to put into his temple. I just wanted a soda. I didn't want a moralistic lecture. So, we left. And had a DELICIOUS dinner at Shin La!

Really excellent fish and chips. In fact the best in VT, NH, or MA. Excellent batter with real flavor, and very good, clean tasting French fries. Only draw back is the limited seating. But if you can grab a table, you will enjoy the food. Can't wait to go back!

Wow - I feel so silly that I haven't been in this place before. I guess I didn't really know what to expect so it was outside ofmy radar - but I am so grateful that my partner suggested it last night - I have already been back 2 times! The food is AMAZING, so fresh - so delicoius and great portions. The decor is welcoming, bright and sunny - with local art on the walls. I hope in the future they can get a better beer selection ( I am extremely averse to Magic Hat anything) but otherwise I will be back for more very soon!

My 8 year old daughter and I travel to Brattleboro weekly. We tried many restaurants before eating here. Now this is the only place we go! I am a foodie.... not a health foodie... not a fancy restaurant foodie.... I have tried everything on the menu and I've loved it all! The menu is short but varied enough to offer something delicious for everyone. My favorite is the avocado and crunchy tofu salad with peanut sauce. WOW! I never thought vegetables could taste so good! The chef/ owner takes great care in making sure all of the ingredients are fresh and cooked perfectly. The atmosphere is relaxed and perfect for families with small children (there is a chalkboard wall for kids to create art while they wait). If you want to eat fresh, tasty food in a laid back spot this is the place!

Looked forward to a rare dinner out and was eager to use the outing to finally get here. I got the fish tacos. The fish was perfectly cooked and the batter was delicious -- spicy and flavorful. The sauce on the tacos was also quite good. But the corn tortillas, while fresh and of good quality, were cold, and corn tortillas, one of my favorite foods in the world, are awful both in taste and texture when they're cold. I even left one uneaten on my dish, something I never do. in addition, the "slaw" under the delicious fish was nothing but raw, unseasoned cabbage. I would have forgiven the cabbage and was even prepared to forgive the mishap on the tortillas when I thought it was an oversight that they (somehow) weren't aware of. When I quietly mentioned it to the proprietor, however, he said -- yeah, our steamer isn't working. The discovery that they were serving something that they knew was sub-par and failed to do whatever was necessary to serve the food correctly (holding the tortillas over a flame, or popping them in an oven, or a skillet, or borrowing a microwave!) was enough to dampen any interest I had to come back and try the fish & chips or the falafel.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.
