been eating here, 5-6 times a year, for 6+ years. we consistently have good service and good food. our family of 5 have tried a lot of dfferent dishes but some of our favorites are the cuban sandwhich, seafood stew, handbreaded chicken fingers, potato skins and breaded fish. we've made the mistake a couple times of getting the kids pasta with alfredo sauce...it's just too rich and oily...but everything else is always well prepared and cooked well.

Just what we needed!! Sweet little small town eatery with a wide variety and awesome staff. Came here on our way through town after celebrating the Grand Re-Opening of the Woodchuck Cidery in need of a great breakfast -- and boy did we get that! HUGE portions! Cornbeef hash and eggs were great- my friend had a side pancake that was pretty much the size of his whole head. Plus Sunday morning Bloody Mary and beer specials. A couple of local brews on tap. Excellent. Sunny welcoming screened in patio with pretty Vermont trees around. My only complaint is that we won't be in town long enough to go back for dinner! **note** some people got a little huffy and left because they weren't waited on fast enough. Dude- it's a beautiful Sunday morning in little tiny Vermont town. Slow down and live a little - don't take it out on these sweet servers!

We went there on 1/25/2014 for our first time . The atmosphere and staff was very welcoming. For starter we ordered a platter of chicken wings we an assortment of sauces. If we order their hot wings, be prepared, they will set your mouth on fire. There was 4 in our party. Our dinner orders were 2 chicken burgers, a sirloin burger, and prime rib. All dinners were very good. One thing that would have made a better experience would be the presence of a salad bar.. I totally recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area, looking forward to our next visit. .

Stopped in to watch the World Cup while vacationing nearby. Not a bad place. Very busy but the televisions were nearby (we sat at a high table looking toward the bar). Good beer selection, and nice mixed drinks on tap. My partner and I split the beer mussels - delicious but a pretty small portion. I also had a cup of clam chowder. Not that good, really tasted like it came straight from the can. Prices were pretty good, and our waitress was nice. If the clam chowder had tasted fresh and the mussels a bigger portion than this would have been a four in my book.

Yum, yum, yum....blueberry pancakes and crispy bacon. Just what I needed on a dreary Sunday morning!

Good food, good company and good price! Cattails is on Rt 7 just north of downtown Brandon. It's good alone or for groups because they have a wide range of food that is consistently good. I visit VT no more than once a year and have tried them 4 times in the past 2 years. I've done 2 takeouts and they only take ~10 minutes. Last Friday night, I dined in at the restaurant with some friends. The place was packed with couples and families but we were lucky to find seats right away. We started with cocktails and they have a good selection of premium liquor and beers. We had their calamari and shrimp dumplings (pot stickers) for appetizers. They are worth trying and not greasy. My friends ordered a chicken burger, captain's plate and I tried their tenderloin with horseradish sauce, substituted mash potato with onion rings. It was yummy and my onion rings were light and crispy. My portion was generous and petite lil' me ate ALL of it ;-). My friend let me taste his french onion soup (FOS) and it was delectable. I'm planning to go back for their chicken wings special this Wednesday and will have a bowl of FOS then. Their creamies are very good too, so eat dessert first or save some room. I was told it's made from real cream. They have a stall for creamies adjacent to the restaurant and I think you can order a few to go food items too. There are only half a dozen places I visit repeatedly between Brandon and Burlington and this is one of my faves. If I lived here, I'm sure I'd be at Cattails every week as the food is awesome and the staff is attentive and make you feel at home.

How this place manages to have an average of a three star rating is beyond me! I'm giving it two because I haven't visited in awhile and I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that things have improved or they would get a 1 star rating. I lived in Brandon for two years and visited this place twice. Both times the food was absolutely awful and way over priced. There are a number of decent spots in town to get food and this is not one of them.

This is now a busy restaurant. It used to be Smoke Rise, but has been revamped and is quite nice inside, in a rustic north country way. Six of us went there for dinner on a Wednesday night and had a buffalo wrap, club sandwich, walnut salad and Delmonico streak, among other things. Although this place is not especially cheap, the food was decidedly average. And don't even consider trying their fries-no good. There are really no alternatives to this place nearby - so there you are...

We visit this restaurant once a month and have never been disappointed. Let's face it, this is a rual setting but the food is consistantly good and the service is very friendly and responsive. Wednesday's wing special is famous and the restaurantbcan be crowded.

Well, looking at the menu, you would expect some really hot shot chef behind it, but in the end the execution just doesn't follow through. They do an ok job with lunch, but for the money you're better off going to Cafe Provence just south in Brandon proper. And the black flies are very annoying there in the summer months. Sorry...

The food was excellent. The service was not. Upon entering the establishment we were asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside in the screened room. I specifically asked about the insect situation (mosquitoes were a major issue in the area). I was reassured that the room was safe and bugs weren't a problem. Our dinner dates were... mosquitoes...uninvited guests. Our waitress was not exactly with it. My mom ordered an entree with a salad. The salad came. How to eat it? Silverware you say? What silverware? The entrees came 15 minutes later to join the mosquitoes, now less fresh salad, and us. Guess what we had to ask for still! Bonus nightmares: They charge for refills. The place is a bar/restaurant. Only found out by asking, as it was not listed in the menu. Ordered a refill and later on my mom did. Check time: check is delivered with items listed. One refill is shown. Waitress comes back to get the card/bill and has an "AHA I forgot to bill them for the second refill, let me fix that without explanation" moment. She fixes the bill with a side of 0 explanation (obviously). We would've pointed it out had the experience not been so bad already. Long story long: we won't return, if you value even basic service standards: skip this place!

Have visited Cattails a half a dozen times in the last 4 months since I now live and work in Brandon. Service totally SUCKS....wait staff is borderline competent, kitchen always seems to slow as molasses, food is hit or miss. Had the Chicken Pai Thai and the chicken was either rotten, freezer burned or not chicken.....sent it back and they knocked a dollar off but still demanded I pay. Since it has been hit or miss tried again today....kitchen was slow, food so so and service was the worst ever...waitress did not even acknowledge or apology for really crappy service. Does management even care? Obviously not.... Last time for my crew.

Service was terribly slow on a Sunday morning. Food was okay but not remarkable. We had pancakes and various sides - eggs, bacon, sausage. Our server was nice but not very attentive. We had empty water and coffee cups on the table most of the meal. Not the greatest experience overall.

Ok, these people know what they're doing. I go there often because out of most places Ive ventured in Brandon, Middlebury AND Bristol, THIS place is hard to beat. Good portions, reasonable prices and damn, their Mac & Cheese is freaking AWESOME! Hell, even their chicken Cesar salad is amazing! Oh! And try their fish tacos...sweet Jesus they're good! Friendly waitresses too! Their desserts are a bit on the pricier side but that's because they give HUGE portions. Addt: They've recently remodeled so seating HAS improved.
