I went here on a weekday for lunch with a friend of mine while I was visiting the area. This cute little place is kind of in the middle of nowhere but it's well worth the drive. The food is delicious and the staff are great people. I ordered the number 13, Chicken Mushroom Melt on Basil focaccia and it was amazing. I asked for a whole sandwich but I think a half would've been enough food. The portions are really big, especially for the price. They offer a lot of nice baked goods as well. I ended up taking home a brownie and a lemon bar for my husband. The lemon bar was amazing but the brownie was a bit dry. My friend assured me that it's usually really great so I'll give it another try sometime. I definitely plan on returning to this place, hopefully with my husband in tow next time. I'd love to try more of their baked goods as well as some of their other sandwiches on the menu.

I was super impressed with the food and the staff was all very kind and accommodating. I ADORE the atmosphere, it screams rustic Vermont and its very comfortable. There is a great amount of parking and even though it is situated on a main road, its quiet and a great located to stop in and eat. I am very impressed and will be making this my go to spot for breakfast and lunch. The food is PHENOMENAL, I've tried the The Vermonter Sandwich and the Chicken Mushroom Melt. Both Amazing! Their Hot Cocoa is also fantastic! I will definitely be returning.

Amazing freshly baked bread for the foundation of excellent sandwiches. Top it off with fresh baked deserts and exceptionally welcoming staff. Take a loaf or two to go.

Why on earth is this place not being reviewed regularly??? They were always good, but have reopened under new management and they are as good as ever! Open for breakfast and lunch Tues-Sat, they have a great variety of breakfast sandwiches. Do NOT miss the Vermonter, which is egg, cheddar, candied bacon, and apple on raisin bread. It's AMAZING! My favorite lunch sandwiches are tuna (made with capers) and their chicken salad (which has grapes in it). They serve their sandwiches on Ciabatta bread or their house made sourdough. They have an extensive sandwich menu and always have good specials. Their tomato basil soup is awesome, as well. House made pastries adorn their pastry case and are there to accompany your coffee or be dessert. They are all SUPER yummy! Oh, and can we talk about the service? These people are friendly to the max and will bend over backwards to make sure that your experience there is the absolute best it can be. Next time you are traveling north or south on Interstate 91, make a point to get off at Exit 8 and stop by the Red Barn Bakery Cafe to give them a try. I can promise you'll be happy you did!

Travelers could count their blessings if every exit off I-91 had an eatery like the Red Barn. Just off the interstate, everything is homemade here by the charming family that runs the business. You can't get a more sophisticated broccoli cheddar soup anywhere. The perfect lunch spot.

Not sure how my wife knew about this place, but glad she found it! We stopped in for breakfast one day, then came back the next day, and the day after that. Tried a bunch of different pastries, breakfast and lunch sandwiches. I had the Vermonter breakfast sandwich twice: eggs, bacon, Vermont cheddar, apples on grilled raisin bread. Red Barn breakfast sandwich with mango chutney, added sausage. Very tasty! Relaxing environment. We didn't have to wait too long for our food, but remember you're in Vermont, relax for a minute! A bonus were the board games, card games and books on the tables. It kept our kids entertained while we waited for our food. Top of the list for pastries was the raspberry scone. I'd go back for them alone, perfectly moist. Also tried a pear and ginger muffin, raspberry bar, brownie bar and maple pecan scone. Pear-ginger muffin was tasty, but the pear got lost under the ginger. A pleasant spice to the muffin, perfect crumb. Raspberry bar had a coconut sprinkle, not my thing, but the crust was perfect. Brownie bar was excellent, the chips kicked up the chocolate intensity. Maple pecan scone was excellent but the raspberry scone was by far the best thing I ate here. We'll be back, a great place for kids.

A great little order at the counter cafe in Ascuntey. VT. This cafe has homemade muffins, scones, pateries, cookies, sandwiches (hot & Cold), soups, salads, and hot and cold drinks. Daily specials are offered. Free Wi-fi is also offered as well as outdoor seating at many picnic tables. Friendly staff and service. I hope to come back soon. Open Tues- Sat 8-:300.

Took them 15 minutes to nuke a hot chocolate and put a cookie on a plate. If you're retired and waiting for the inevitable, might as well spend it waiting here to be served.

This place is a hidden OASIS. It's holed up behind a gas station and crossroads -- a true "diamond in the rough" as my mother likes to refer to it. The Normal Rockwell-inspired interior is true to the surrounding community and I love how cozy the whole place is. There are indoor tables, but you can also get food to go. It closes early on weekdays (3:00pm), but it's perfect for breakfast or lunch in the Claremont area. I stopped here with my mom for lunch and we split the mozzarella, pesto, spinach and tomato sandwich on wheat berry bread with a fresh tomato basil soup on the side. So fresh and delicious! Just the smell of the soup was enough for us to walk away feeling sated. This is the BEST lunch place in the area and I only wish that they were open later!

Surrounded by four gas stations and on the edge of the CT. River sits the little Red Barn Cafe, an unassuming country cafe in Ascutney, VT. The Red Barn has your typical bakery & sandwich variety with something extra. The coffee is a bit bland (if Red Barn folks are reading this, invest in Mocha Joes!), but this is made up for in what is the BEST breakfast sandwich in the Upper Valley. Portugese muffin, egg, cheese, (add bacon) & the awesome magic ingredient MAGON CHUTNEY, make this a day-starter worth the drive. Well done! Highly recommended!
