On Vacation and given a $30 gift card after way too long time-share talk. Anyway, greeted at the door and seated immediately. Server was excellent, great with our kids. Food came out quick, which was impressive because the restaurant was packed. The foods was very good and the kids loved it as well. A must go to restaurant in Williamsburg, gift certificate or not. We will be back!!!

Went here based on the other reviews and was underwhelmed. The first hitch was waiting almost 25 minutes for our food in a party of 5. Once the food came out, the temperatures ranged from cold to barely lukewarm with the exception of a side of corned beef hash which was steaming hot like it had been just taken off the griddle. Eggs, pancakes, waffles, and worst yet the sausage biscuits and gravy were all cold. With the sausage gravy there were pockets of lukewarm and cold in the same bite, which is an odd sensation when eating. With the extended wait for the food, I can only guess it was prepared and sat on the serving line for several minutes before being brought out to us. The food was delicious, excellent flavor, and if it hadn't been for the food temperature issue the meal would have been close to perfect. The waitress forgot an order of eggs, but after finally tracking her down was quickly fixed and the eggs came out piping hot. This would have easily been a solid 4 stars, again had it not been for the serving temperatures.

I would definitely recommend this among the umpteen pancake and waffle houses on Richmond road. You have to understand the genre of the old school pancake house. If you do, this is just right. If you're looking for something else, this isn't your place. My 12-year-old son had the Belgian waffle. Now (a) he's a pre-teen, so he's starting to eat prodigious quantities of food. (b) we live in England, where portion sizes like this are unheard of. He was ready to order a waffle AND a side of pancakes. I encouraged him to start with a Belgian waffle and promised to order more food if he was still hungry. Fast forward 10 minutes and he's finished his plate. His comment to me: "Dad, I want to eat more. But my body is telling me I can't." I said "son, that's called being 'full'. You don't experience that a lot, as a preteen living in London." To any other English folks who might happen through: remember that they don't understand hot tea in this part of the country. I'm sorry.

Typical pancake house . Wait staff was friendly and the place was very neat and clean. Food was good proportions. Pancakes had a good taste. These were thin vs the puffy kind. My wife had the veggie omlet and a pancake , I had the scrambled eggs and pancakes.

Pretty good....had the biscuit and gravey with a side of sausage.

Maybe my stomach isn't used to southern food but I can say I Immersed myself into the southern culture of the stroke belt. Breakfast of champions: Fried catfish, biscuits and gravy and grits ...there are no acai bowls hereI just threw up. The only thing that looked good was the pancakes which I failed to order.

Had the chicken and waffles. The fried chicken wings that came with the plate was absolutely amazing. Staff was very friendly.

Went here for breakfast before heading to Busch Gardens earlier this morning. The food was excellent! Fresh and tasted homemade! Loved it. Must stop if you're in the area looking for some good breakfast food.

Traveled to the area with family for the first time and looked for something different. So I turned to Yelp and this place although very close to the hotel we were staying at (Suites Inn by marriott) Yelp listed as 4 stars with very good reviews. We ordered the home fries with two eggs, bacon/sausage and pancakes. They made my eggs and bacon exactly how I wanted - eggs well done and extra crispy bacon not burnt. The place was clean and servers were very fast in clearing tables and brining orders. I've never tried grits with a meal before the southern way but in looking at others enjoy it I think I will try it tomorrow. Definitely a great place and will definitely visit again when we return.

Ate 1.5 large pancakes but these were no ordinary pancakes. They were just the way I like them. They had that fried in butter crispness on the outside n were soft and fluffy but not too fluffy or not too dense on the inside. They were so good I ate most of them with no syrup. I usually like my pancakes with just a sprinkle of sugar on them. The service was excellent. Very friendly and welcomin g from even while we were still in the parking lot. We ate the Plantation Breakfast which was plenty for the 2 of us and I also ordered a kids breakfast for my 6 year old. Great meal and service!

Rainy Saturday morning eating breakfast with the family and decided to check out this place that I have been hearing about so much. Nice place for a busy area of Williamsburg. I had the chicken and waffles. I was surprised that the chicken was well seasoned and the waffles were golden brown and soft inside. We also had bacon omelet and wasn't season but tasted okay. The best part was the staff. Bridget is the best. Warm and very friendly and the owner was very pleasant as well. I will try the catfish and grits next visit along with a few things that also caught my eye.

Out of the 12 million Pancake houses in Williamsburg that you'll pass during your time there, PICK THIS ONE! This is a fantastic diner with great friendly, quick service! We all ordered pretty traditional orders, but the kids gobbled down their pancakes so quickly you'd have thought they were candy! All orders came out cooked perfectly, which is sometimes challenging with eggs over easy. I was a little disappointed with the grits....pretty sure they were most likely instant, which is not what I'd expect from a "Southern" breakfast place. They do have a variety of dishes on the menu like the traditional chicken and waffles and they have a number of dishes paired with cat fish too. When we return to Williamsburg, we'll have breakfast here again!

Greeted at the door with a smile and immediately seated. Our waiter was excellent and the most friendly gentlemen we've met since being in Williamsburg. Try their fried bologna...excellent!!!! Will definitely make a trip to Southern Pancake and Waffle House on my next visit to Williamsburg.

Excellent food, attentive wait staff and good location. Couldn't ask for more. Grits were creamy, pancakes were savory and biscuits were fluffy AND moist.

If I lived in Williamsburg, I would go here all the time. Excellent southern cooking. The staff were extremely courteous and friendly. Delicious waffles, grits, sausage gravy, pancakes, home fries....all homemade. You can feel the love in the people and the love in the food. Decorated like a grandma's house. Very comforting. I wish I could have gone to their sister restaurant for soul food...but not enough time, but it gave me a hankering for collard greens and chicken livers. Prices were reasonable and Williamsburg is a lovely location!!

We had a 30 dollar gift certificate to use here on a Wednesday morning for breakfast. We were seated right away but our service was very slow otherwise. Our server was very nice and our orders were right on the money, they just took forever. It could have been the 2 other large parties in the restaurant that morning. It was pretty loud. We asked for coffee and it was fresh, just right. I had 2 eggs scrambled with turkey sausage and fried apples. The turkey sausage did not resemble turkey sausage in any way, looks or taste. I swear it was pork sausage. Not complaining, just my observation. Fried apples were interesting, I wasn't used to seeing them as a breakfast side so I went with it, and glad I did. My wife had 2 eggs over easy with scrapple and grits. She said everything was great, especially the grits. Our friends had a western omelet and 2 eggs with sausage links. They enjoyed theirs as well. Our server gladly took our 30 dollar gift certificate with no problems. Yes everything took a long time, the coffee, the meal, the check, but we would stop here again for sure. Some things are worth waiting for.

This is all you need to know: Get the friend catfish. Ask for hot sauce. If you don't like fish, get the chicken and waffles. If you don't eat meat, get the pancakes. Personally, next time I go, I'm going to force everyone at the table to order the catfish and chicken and waffles. They were that good. Everything else was OK, but those two dishes were spectacular.

Authentic southern breakfast at its best. Try the awesome southern fried chicken and waffles. They won't disappoint.

I visited with a large group (10) on a Wednesday morning for a late breakfast. Service was prompt, friendly, and accurate. The staff was quick to get refills on drinks, the food was delivered accurately and quickly, and an employee even got me an extra Virginia-themed paper place mat when I mentioned that it would be good for my son's school project. The food was very good as well. I had a Greek omelet was good but fairly forgettable. The fried potatoes that came with the omelet as a side were tremendous! Definitely home-made southern food. No complaints from me.

Wow. We ate at Coreys kitchen the night before & they recommended this place for breakfast. Everything from the food to the service was 110% on point. Corey really k owns how to run a restaurant & you can tell by the way his employees are all so happy that he treats his staff like family. We will visit all his restaurants every time we are in town. Thank you Sir for the best foods we have ever eaten anywhere & anytime!!

Pulled off the road at the last minute looking for a spot to eat. The place had enough cars in the parking lot to let me know it might be worth it, but was not too crowded. The place was pretty clean and the silverware was too (I didn't have to clean it with my water or have them give me a new set). I ordered the works which was the meal with waffles, one egg, and some meat...and it was great except for whipped cream with sprinkles on the Belgium waffle and you only get one egg. It appears they put whipped cream and sprinkles on everything. "Just scoop it off and you're good to go" the waitress says. I plan on going back for the chicken and waffles and the catfish and grits.

Came here for breakfast while on vacation... The food was incredible and the service was even better... Veshon was our waiter and he was excellent.. We will definitely come again on our next trip..

  • Tom L.

Wanted to like this place but the service was dreadful and the food was mediocre. In fairness I got the impression it was just our waitress who was under performing. She took 20 mins to take our order, never checked on us and then lost one of our orders. An adjacent table asked to be moved to another server's section. When she realised people had complained she started to try forcing complimentary food on us, but in a way which was all about her. "I try to make amends but you aren't interested". It was awkward.

Great experience! Real southern charm. They have their version of Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles which is waaaay better than Roscoe's. The waffle is crisp on the outside and melt in your mouth on the inside. The chicken is fried perfectly. And it's only $10.99. Vashwan was our server and his a sweet charming man. Come early because it gets crowded very fast, but service is just as fast!

Came for breakfast on a Thursday morning ( Four adults, one toddler, and an infant) Service was outstanding and our order arrived quickly. The food was excellent. I started with a Senior Breakfast of 1/2 waffle, one egg, and one slice bacon and added a side of grits, a biscuit and grapefruit juice. My only disappointment was with the biscuit, which though tasty, was only luke warm. Place is good for kids including toddlers and infants. Wait staff have the Virginia equivalent of the Aloha spirit. I highly recommend this place for a good southern breakfast!

  • Glenna P.

A late Thursday and full. Seated quickly/ordered in 10 minutes. A very hospitable place. Food was tastee enough and home like. I will add however that my expectations of a breakfast restaurant is that they can cook eggs to order. My over medium egg was hard :-(. The home fries were actually sliced potatoes and had a pepper and onion flavor. The unfortunate part is that the items prepared ahead were easily identified; potatoes, bacon and grits. They were room temp a disappointment...the grits I argue were instant. Our server was excellent very friendly and attentive considering the large crowd. Would I try this place again likely not as I would try another highly rated site instead.

Great wait staff!! Food was great as well!!! It met our expectations of food we would eat at home. Great place to eat!!!!

  • Courtney C.

We came for the chicken & waffles, which were highly reviewed/photographed. The waffle was okay, not very hot, and the fried chicken was extremely bland. Not enough seasoning in the batter at all. The grits were alright but the homefries were fantastic. It was not great but not bad, and definitely filling.

Just had a very late breakfast here. Loved everything. Our server was a doll, the food was delicious & filling. We both ordered pancakes. Super fluffy. Home fries had onions & peppers mixed in, awesome. My husband is in love with the sausage he ordered. Food came out quickly, price was very fair. We'll come back before vacation is over for sure.

First let me start with the water down coffee. The awful service. We waited 40 minutes while watching all the tables that came after us being served with their food. We eventually had to walk out after 45 minutes.

  • Eun P.

I chose to eat here because it had great reviews. As soon as we sat down, we had ants crawling on the table and had dirty unwashed mug. Food was just okay, not all that was hyped to be based on all the reviews.

  • Michael G C.

Food was OK, nothing to brag about. Went there with family and was expecting great pancakes! They were so so and coffee was kinda week. Not sure if I would return. Waiter was friendly which was the only highlight. My real rating would have been 2 1/2 stars.

  • Diane D.

Great food, friendliest service we have ever experienced. Highly recommend a hearty breakfast here and you won't need to eat until dinner time. We are a family of 6 and we tried many of the offerings. Everything was excellent. The waitstaff were very accommodating and anticipated our needs before we did. Highly recommend.

This place was fantastic. If you are in Williamsburg and looking for breakfast, this is the place. Great service and a wide variety of southern style breakfast foods.

Had breakfast here this morning. Our server, Angel, was exceptionally friendly. Being a native of The Great State of South Carolina, I can attest to the fact that this is a good Southern breakfast. I did have a Belgian waffle, but all the rest, the hash, the ambiance, the people, had that southern charm and hospitality that one would expect from a restaurant of this nature. I will be eating here in the morning when I head home, and maybe you should too!

  • Mindy B.

The chicken and waffles are absolutely to die for. This place has the nicest staff and the best soul food imaginable. You need to go in hungry....because they don't believe in small portions!

  • Marie C.

I loved this place! It felt like going home :) REAL food is going on here. My fiance had chicken and waffles and I had eggs, bacon, home fries and bagel. The service is super friendly and the food is homemade. Don't bother with the other breakfast and pancake houses in Williamsburg, just go here. They will take care of you!

This afternoon we found ourselves in Williamsburg looking for lunch. Yelp to the rescue! The Southern Pancake House was just ahead. We found the place nearly empty (I think it's mostly a breakfast place) and we were immediately seated. Our waitress recommended the chicken and waffles (not on the menu) because the chicken looked really good today. The kids got waffles/pancakes with strawberries. My wife ordered a cheese omelette and I got the recommended chicken and waffles. After the arrival of our sweet team and lemonade (I love the south), our waitress bet my daughter a dollar that she couldn't finish her waffle--challenge accepted she said! The meal arrived hot off the griddle, iron, and fryer. It did not disappoint. My chicken was fried to crispy perfection. My wife declared the omelette fantastic, and my daughter won the dollar bet. The cost was reasonable (about $45 before tip for a family of four) and the service was GREAT. If I lived in the area I'd be back, but because we don't I'll just have to recommend it to you.

There are a whole lot of pancake houses around here! Thanks to Yelp, my husband chose the best one for sure. His mom, dad, our very sweet but definitely 2 year old toddler, he and I - well we ventured here. Our server Angel was ahhhhmazing. A sweet, energetic woman thrilled to serve and eager to be the genuine woman and obviously is. Food was just what we ordered; from well done corn beef hash to sprinkles on our daughter's pancakes. It's a spot that aims to please and the service was fantastic.

  • Kelly H.

Great breakfast experience all around. This place has great food, friendly staff, and reasonable prices. The corn beef hash and two eggs brought back good childhood memories of breakfasts with my Dad. My girlies thoroughly enjoyed their french toast and waffles too. Our favorite breakfast spot in Williamsburg.

  • Katie L.

We went here for brunch after church. While everyone's food was fine, it was not as good as expected based off other reviews. We tried a couple of omelettes, pancakes with eggs, and the chicken and waffles. The service was pretty slow and it was VERY loud.

Great Find! Yelp activated, best breakfast in Williamsburg VA. This joint pops up in the top five. So off we go. Pull up and the place isn't that packed and get get seated right away. Our server is Persells and he is a real friendly guy. We order, the catfish breakfast platter, the bacon pancakes with a side a cheese grits, the 2 egg, 2 pancake and 2 bacon platter, and a pancake and bacon platter. Everything looked great. I admit my father's catfish platter looked real good even though it was only 830am. He loved it. I had the bacon pancakes and the cheese grits. The pancakes had pieces of bacon sprinkled in the batter and they were delicious. The grits were tasty too, but they needed some salt. Rather them need salt than be too salty so that wasn't a bad thing. Overall great breakfast for a decent price, 49 and change not including tip. Good job! Remember to tell them Dan sent you and Stay Hungry!

  • Marianne N.

Family friendly environment. Good service. Great price for breakfast food. We had the Chicken and waffle special and a veggie omelette. Food was bangin but even better with hot sauce :) If ever in the area, we would definitely go back especially to try their Soul Food menu on Sunday Evening.

  • Tyana S.

Food is amazing. I'm not saying this because I am also a waitress here. I tried the food before I started working. The steak is flavorful and the pork chops are tasty. I plan to try the catfish next! The eggs are perfect, I've never had such tasty eggs and the omelettes are big which is a plus. My training was very thorough so service is beyond great. I love when kids order pancakes or waffles because it gives me the opportunity to put a whipped cream smiley face on them! I'm probably the only waitress that does that, and that's only because that's how I personally make my pancakes. The eggs over easy, over hard, or over medium look so perfect just like the eggs you see in cartoons!

Great food. Very much southern homestyle, just like my grandma's cooking. Friendly quick service.

  • Alissa F.

Good food. Good prices. Great service. Home fries were thinly sliced potatoes-yummy. Pancakes were big and had a fluffy texture. Coffee was excellent and they had vanilla creamer on the table as well as half and half. Seemed to be a family owned restaurant. Special was chicken and waffles, which we did not order, but after seeing at another table, looked awfully good. Highlight was the staff singing a unique, soulful version of happy birthday to a customer....they had some beautiful voices! Would return. We liked better than Shorty's diner, which had good yelp reviews. Comparable prices and menu. Update: went back the next day and it was excellent again! Waffle was on point. Home fries are my fav. Bathroom does not have baby changing station.

My husband and I ate here twice while visiting Williamsburg, both times for breakfast. The restaurant is clean and the entire staff is attentive and friendly. The first morning my husband got scrapple, eggs, and breakfast potatoes. He thoroughly enjoyed his breakfast and it smelled incredible. I got an order of buttermilk pancakes, which were a little on the dense side (but I like them that way!) So they were quite delicious! The next morning my husband ordered a scrapple omolet with a biscuit and breakfast potatoes. He dove in and thoroughly enjoyed them. I got a ham & cheese omelet with breakfast potatoes and they substituted my biscuit with a pancake :) My omelet was very good, but a little heavy for me. This is an old style of cooking (Probably bacon grease?) and I found the omelet a bit greasy for my pallet. I still ate most of it and enjoyed it, but I don't even cook with butter at home... So to have my omelet cooked in a presumed bacon grease was too rich for my blood! The breakfast potatoes were equally good and seemed to have the same treatment in how they were cooked. Pancake was fluffy and light, the opposite of the morning before, and scrumptious. We had the same waitress both days and she was a delight, humorous and personable. This is a really nice, slightly cramped, restaurant that I would gladly recommend to friends. They're great people with a great "Southern" touch to their food without a doubt!

  • Kay J.

Wow. I really wanted to like this place, but the free breakfast at my hotel is way better. I can't say enough about how horrible it was. The steak omelet was weird. Not all our food came out at once. How can they make a bad pancake when pancake is in their name? There was no banana I my wife's banana pancake. They served me and my wife 15 minutes before our kids. The menus were sticky with food, as were cards on the table. I think they were washing silverware behind me. And by washing I mean rinsing them in water and rubbing them with a cloth. I wish I could give less stars

  • Claire L.

Great breakfast! Mr. Alvin was excellent, paying special attention to our 2 kids in the party making sure they had some food quickly. The pancakes were delicious, the special turkey sausage omelet was fluffy.

Visited early this morning, the place was practically empty! We were greeted and seated immediately! The staff was pleasant! I ordered the blueberry waffle which was wonderful! My son ordered the kids French toast, it was mediocre nothing special about it. Could have made the same thing as home...

So our whole family chose to eat at this establishment as a farewell breakfast meal for the end of our trip. It is easy to get to and has great reviews. The building is much smaller than I expected, but was clean and nice if not a little outdated. The staff are incredibly friendly. My son has autism and they went out of their way to make him feel comfortable and to accommodate us. The service was quick and friendly. It is a bit cramped in the restaurant and tight, but you adapt quickly. So far it is pretty good. The prices for the food are reasonable with breakfast and lunch available. They normally close at 4 but are open until 6 on Sunday's. The drinks were unusually high especially for the serving size. $2.25 for 12 oz of Milk or juice...that's almost a gallon of milk. The coffee was always flowing without interruption and the staff were efficient without being intrusive. They definitely have have a "coloulful" local clientele. They are know for their Chicken and Waffles but also have other traditional Southern dishes such as catfish, grits, biscuits and gravy etc... The waffles were very good with everyone who ordered them enjoying them very much. The chicken had mixed reviews. Some really liked it and others did not. The chicken has a sweeter taste to it than normal fried chicken. My sister said it was almost like it was in pancake batter or funnel cake batter rather than traditional fried chicken. However it looked good so you would have to decide for yourself on that one. I had the biscuits and gravy. They were fine although the gravy was lacking some flavour that I made up for with salt and pepper. It was sausage gravy, but it was link sausage cut up in the gravy versus patty sausage cooked in the gravy. The sides of sausage links were just okay, having a greasy flavour rather than a good meat flavour. Same with the bacon. The eggs were very good according to the table and the catfish was prepared very well. Overall is was a positive experience, I just wished there was more flavour in the food and that is was a little less bland. Yet, the incredible service and how welcoming they were I would give 4 stars but for those who read and are more interested in the food...I have to knock a star off. We want the flavour! I would say this is a place worth checking out, even if it is a little bland.

Good, solid pancake house. I've been to a fair number of pancake houses in Williamsburg, and this is one of the few that is actually fit to eat at. No frills, just decent breakfast food. Not a bad value for the money, comparable to other pancake houses on Richmond Road. Coffee is hot and drinkable, pancakes are fluffy. What more can you want?

  • John P.

First let's start with the good. The food was very good. The pancakes had great flavor, the chicken and waffles were amazing and the bacon was well done and delicious. Our waitress Letisha was excellent. Very attentive, fast and pleasant. However; the place needs a remodel. Bathrooms dirty, ants on the table ketchup bottles reused and gross. Booths and tables need replacing. Did I mention that the chicken and waffles and Letisha were amazing.

The service was good, the staff was friendly and professional. The food was okay to not so good. The omelette was average, the potatoes fine. But the salmon cakes were very Salty and greasy. First time we didn't take a doggy bag home in a long time

This restaurant is definitely some place that you want to visit! Everything is homemade, the service is fast & friendly, and you get huge portions for a reasonable price. If you stop by for breakfast you must try the catfish & eggs!!

  • Jennifer F.

The best part of this place was our server! He was the nicest man ever! He recommended the chicken and waffles and it was the first time I've ever had that-glad I tried them, delicious! 3 huge chicken wings and a 4 piece perfectly cooked Belgium waffle. Son had "bacon" pancakes-bacon cooked inside the pancakes! Platters come with so much..biscuits (that melt in your mouth!), potatoes and grits or fried apples. Husband had the corned beef hash-definitely homemade. Had to drop a star only because the grits were a little bland and because of the time it took for the food to be made-but I would definitely recommend this place!

  • Bryn T.

Dined here while on vacation for a wedding. Food was nothing special. Biscuits and Gravy was bland and the biscuits were not fresh. Sausage and eggs were cold, and the pancakes don't have whipped butter. Upon check out I was overcharged $289! The cashier caught the mistake right away but there was little to no apology given. When the manager came to put the credit back on my debit card he told me it would happen immediately. Not true! A credit takes 3-5 business days. Needless to say I wouldn't return.

Someone please update YELP with the accurate hours. After rushing children and 3 adults out, we arrived at 1:20 to discover they closed at 1pm. Very disappointed and annoyed.

My husband and I were spending the day in Williamsburg doing some shopping. We didn't eat breakfast as we were going to eat once we got to Williamsburg. Before we left I had searched for a good place to go for breakfast. I had read that this place had very good reviews. I must say I see why. The food was wonderful. The next time we make a day trip I will be sure to stop in to have breakfast again. The prices are very reasonable too. Great place!!!

Me and my husband wanted some breakfast so we stopped in early about 5 mins after they opened we waited a few mins before anyone came out the back. he was friendly and funny. The decor was funny and quirky. ordered and got our food pretty fast the home fries were good but the orange juice was horrible it was some type of frozen stuff the guy said. Also the bacon wasn't very good. We eat a lot of natural and organic, So we are used to fresh foods. This place was ok but with so many other places in Williamsburg we probably wont be back. We don't mind paying for quality food but this place was way over priced for what you get.

  • Blaine P.

This place is a friendly as it gets. The service was just a tad bit slower with our group of 8 but that is to be expected with small groups. The waiting staff here is phenomenal. Very courteous. Lots of southern personality. Our waitress Bridgette was a comedy show by herself. With that many people I was able get lots of feedback. We ordered everything from the eggs, grits, corn beef hash, salmon cakes, sausage, home fries, banana pancakes, bacon, fried apples. Everyone enjoyed it. Not a complaint from anyone. Lots of cleaned plates here and the servings were very good size. You can get a traditional breakfast with eggs and waffles and such but there are also lots of items that are not on the printed menu. Make sure to ask about the chicken and waffles or the fried fish and eggs. We have been eating breakfast here in Williamsburg for over 20 years and this is one of the best we have had. So glad we found this place. Also, if you have a Entertainment coupon book there is a mobile coupon for $5 off.

Friendly service and delicious breakfast food at reasonable prices. The coffee was good. The French toast was perfectly cooked. The eggs were scrambled nicely and served hot. Everything I wanted out of a breakfast while on vacation. I would give this place 5 stars but I have to knock a star off because our waiter forgot what we ordered. He didn't write it down and then had to come back to ask us again what we wanted. Kind of a pet peeve of mine. Just write it down the first time!

This is the best breakfast place!! I don't live in Williamsburg or visit often anymore, but always think of Southern Pancake & Waffle when thinking of breakfast and I've been looking for a place in Richmond or the nova area that compares to here-still haven't found it. The coffee is delicious and the breakfast portions are huge. My boyfriend and I used to split the Greek omelette, which comes with toast and potatoes. We also would get a side of 1 huge pancake to split sometimes. The waffles are delicious as well. Seriously the friendliest service and the best place for breakfast!!! I only wish I could find a place that compares in Richmond.

Based on the other reviews, we stopped in for breakfast on our way out of town from vacation and weren't disappointed! We were seated immediately and waited on by Vashaun, who seems like he might be in charge. He was wonderful, our food came out quick and hot, and it was GOOD-moist pancakes and waffles, well cooked scrambled eggs, and hot coffee. The whole meal took 20-25 minutes for 2 people. Very reasonably priced-would definitely come back again!

Had a late breakfast there with my wife, her cousin and her husband. Service was excellent and attentive. I had the bacon pancakes which were excellent. We also had the veggie omelet and chicken and waffles. We left thoroughly satisfied and were making recommendations to the next couple walking in. A definite must.

Something missing on early Monday, my catfish with 2 eggs didn't come out right, everything went to over cook, left under heat lamp for too long. I missed the food that prepare from scratch, not take out from the box. 3 stars for polite server "Kayla" and clean.

Absolutely the best breakfast I have had in a long time. I had the catfish with eggs and home fries. Fantastic! And our server- LaTisha was great! Highly recommend this place.

Service was excellent and food was good. There was no wait and we were seated within seconds on a summer Sunday morning. Our waiter suggested items that weren't on the menu that the chef would make. Overall nice family restaurant.

A must! The best of my youth...scrapple, poached eggs, grits and rye toast! Not to forget the awesome server Alvin!

The Southern was clean and convenient and the service very good. Parking was a little tight However our meal was not edible and we are not picky eaters. Don't order the biscuits and gravy - what we were served had what appeared to be chopped Vienna sausage from a can and there was a preservative taste. We left all but a few bites on our plates.

Completely serviceable brunch place, no waiting, and very friendly. Didn't knock any of our socks off, but that's okay. Eggs, pancakes, grits. Good stuff.

My wife and I agree once again on a restaurant which is not always the case. I had the banana pecan pancakes and thought that they were extremely good. She had grits and French toast that she also thought were very good. We found a hotel coupon good for 20% off our breakfast and were glad we could save a few dollars. Service was prompt and very friendly and we both agree we would return back to this restaurant once again.

We ate breakfast there three mornings in a row when we were visiting Colonial Williamsburg. What a way to lift up your morning. Everyone there was friendly and they recognized us after our first visit. Food was good - loved the corned beef hash. Even my omelet loving husband had pancakes the second two visits. Highlight of our visits: Bridget! We noticed her waiting on other tables during our second visit, and we were thrilled to have her as our waitress the third time. She is a riot! When my daughter said no to the hot chocolate and asked for milk, Bridget asked if she wanted whipped cream on her milk! Of course my kid said yes, and the Bridget asked the 17 year old, who also said sure! They came with whipped cream - and sprinkles - on the MILK! The pancakes are good, but the family feeling and the friendly staff will keep you coming back.

In town for a mini vacay and this place was close to our hotel. Way better then any chain breakfast spot, by far. Nothing fancy about the place but the service was good, prices were good and most of all, the food was really good.

This is the cleanest restaurant I have ever been in. And the staff one of the nicest. My breakfast was wonderful, eggs very fresh. My husband's pancakes were delicious. Will return often.

Maybe we visited on a bad day, but the food was just pretty average. My pancakes were dry and heavy. My husband said his chicken and waffles were less than impressive, with the chicken tasting old.

tried this place based on yelp reviews and tips! thank you! i was meeting my aunt in town to pick up my grandmother who is visiting from hawaii. she asked if we could meet at ihop. no way man, local diners are the way to go! my grandma is very picky about her pancakes and she loved them! she also said the coffee was really good. i had the works and it was great! the home fries were really yummy and the biscuit was great too. i was stuffed before i made it to my waffle. we will be returning when we are in town again.

After the closing of the Gazebo, we were searching for a new Southern breakfast place and discovered this one. The staff couldn't have been friendlier and the restaurant cleaner. The chicken and waffles were absolutely outstanding and VA ham was wonderful. We look forward to returning here to try their soul food Sunday!

Nice place for a give ole southern breakfast. Staff was very friendly and the food was as good as you can make a breakfast be. Prices were very reasonable. I would definitely would visit again on another trip.

Breakfast Review Great food, great staff, good prices (chicken and waffles was $11), but it was pretty loud in there, especially for 9am. If it was a bit quieter it would be 5 star for sure.

After trying many of the Williamsburg Pancake Houses over the years we finally have one worth writing about. The Chicken & Waffles we're great, the kids loved their pancakes (I loved them too) and the service was great.

The building was clean and 60's themed. We sat down and our waitress was one of the friendliest I have ever seen. My young sister asked for a hot chocolate, it arrived with 4 inches of whipped cream, covered in sprinkles and chocolate chips. The waitress was very helpful and my drink never ran empty. The food arrived and it was amazing. I had a bacon egg cheese sandwich on a bagel - the egg was fresh, bacon wasn't too crispy, and the cheese was just enough. The home fries were awesome, and the waffle was delicious too (my sister got that) I wish I could give 6 stars, because this place is awesome.

  • Suellen D.

server and staff were unfriendly, they didnt have a changing table for babies. but food was good, not Amazingly delicious, but just good. i wouldn't come back because server kept getting smart every time we reminded him of what he forgot to bring. he needs to learn that the customer is always right, no need to argue, i saw him doing it with the other 2 tables near us.

We ate there twice while visiting Williamsburg and it was delicious both times. Their eggs were perfectly cooked and the country ham was so tender and good. The second morning we had a huge Belgian waffle with bananas and pecans that was out of this world! Great tasting coffee too. The manager was so very friendly. I highly recommend this place and I give it five stars.

You can't swing a dead cat without hitting a pancake restaurant in Williamsburg, VA so I checked Yelp and found out that "Southern Pancake & Waffle" was one of the better ones. Well, Yelp was absolutely correct. The staff (Theresa & manager) were very friendly. She patiently explained what "scrapple" was to us Northerners. The waffles, eggs, and bacon (crispy, not burnt) were all perfect. My kids said the chocolate chip pancakes were a little dry, but they were able to remedy the problem with a bit of syrup. I visited the Ladies room before we left, and it was very clean. It's been my experience that clean bathrooms usually = clean kitchens.

It was almost 4pm on a Sunday and my husband and I were dying for breakfast. Having lived in Williamsburg for a few years we knew that the only place open for breakfast would be IHOP (ugh no thanks), but we crossed our fingers and Googled for breakfast joints. Yelp popped up with a 4 breakfast place that was still open - yay! Even though it says they close at 4pm, they were open til 6 and we knew when we walked in the door that it was going to be fantastic . . . It didn't disappoint! From the service to the food, we felt right at home; this is now our go-to breakfast restaurant. We didn't even try the dinner menu but if it's at all as good as their breakfast, I can't wait! We tried a smorgasbord of food, from eggs, pancakes & french toast to scrapple (just like my gran used to make) and corned beef hash plus the crispiest bacon ever (yum!), and everything was superb! Their name says it all - Southern . . . And oh so good. Plus Sundays are "Soul Food Sundays" and they have specials to make your mouth water. If you're looking for a great home-cooked meal at a great price, you have to go to Southern Pancake & Waffle House!

*** Amazing Breakfast ***We came to Williamsburg for our anniversary and stopped at this restaurant. The food was amazing and the waitress was so helpful and nice. The whole time we were there the other servers were cleaning the walls and tables and ensuring the place was spotless... My wife ordered banana nut bread pancakes and they were enormous and she was very pleased... I had the steak and eggs and I have to say I cleaned my plate... All and all amazing place to stop for breakfast!!!

Clean, Friendly Waitstaff. Very Family Friendly Environment! Lots of Choices on the menu, average prices. Parking lot is kind of small. Remember to ask for the Chicken and Waffles it's not on the menu. We found out when some else order arrived. Everyone in the restaurant stopped to look. Waffle was a little dry, Chicken was fried just right!

Terrific restaurant! We arrived at 11am and were seated immediately. The waiter was very pleasant and checked on us frequently. I got the veggie omelet with home fried potatoes and a side of bacon. My fiancé got the bacon, egg and cheese sandwich that also came with home fried potatoes. Both meals were wonderful and we definitely left full. Their sweet tea is the best we've ever had at a restaurant. I agree with other reviewers, the restaurant was very, very clean and warm feeling. Overall a great breakfast experience.

I had high hopes for this place given the many positive reviews here, but after trying it this morning I was not impressed. The wife and I were in the area and stopped by for a mid-morning breakfast. There were quite a few people already there, it was maybe 75 percent full. She ordered the pancakes, eggs, and bacon combo and I ordered a western omelet with grits and a biscuit. We waited a while, but again the place was pretty busy so that was nothing unexpected. Eventually the food came; my western omelet was rather small, with just a sprinkling of peppers and ham and a dash of cheese on top (.99 extra for the cheese). I was looking forward to the grits, since they advertise soul food and southern cooking as their specialty, but unfortunately they gave me home fries instead of grits. Not wanting to wait any longer, I went ahead and ate the potatoes. They were OK, not greasy and not bad but also not exceptional. My biscuit was surprisingly underwhelming for a place that stresses down-home southern cooking. It was flat, heavy and a little chewy. My wife's pancakes and scrambled eggs were, again, not bad but but not exceptional. Pretty much what you would expect at any number of the many other pancake joints in town. Our waiter was personable and friendly, we had no issues with the staff or the diner itself. Maybe it was an off day for them, I don't know - it definitely seems that our experience was not what most of the other reviewers described.

We got here and it was easy to park and we were seated right away. Our table was clean and very nice. Our waiter was quick and very kind, he had a great sense of humor. The menu has so many options to choose from, I picked out the chocolate chip pancakes with bacon and homemade potatoes for breakfest. It was brought to us quickly. The pancakes were perfectly moist and had chocolate chips not only inside the pancakes but put on top in a melted form. They are a good size, so I was able to eat the two pancakes I was given. The Bacon was not to crisp but cooked to a state of perfection. I wish I could've had more, but the slices are fairly large. Lastly, the potatoes were out of this world. They were served with some onion slivers. The potatoes were crispy and moist. Definitly give this place a try

DO NOT GO HEAR!!!!!! ITS A RACIST RESTAURANT!!! It took an hour and half to get my family's meal and it was breakfast food!! It wasn't that busy!! Along with that we had SEVEN families that got severed their food and finished before we even got our food!! All SEVEN of the families where white while my family was not!! Along with that it took another hour to get the check!! He also added a tip that was not earned!!!!DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE!!!

Food was OK. I liked the scrapple, but my poached eggs were not soft, as I requested they were rubber balls. Service was VERY slow and waiter kept forgetting things, e.g. fork fell on floor (we had to go get new one ourselves), brought only 1 OJ, etc. etc. I'm not sure it was worth the wait.

    (3)
  • Matt G.

Walked in there today for breakfast and I was not disappointed. Best waffles, biscuits and grits I've had in a long time! The service was AMAZING. I would definitely recommend this place.

Service was really friendly, portion is huge. My scramble eggs came cold like have been sitting there for 10 min. Pancakes are not that good, not made with good ingredients. scrapple is on the salty side, Blueberry pancake was flavorless. Hot tea is good though!

roaches!! roaches!! roaches!! wish i could give zero or negative stars, be warned... do not eat here!!!! they have a severe roach problem, my family & i stopped by hoping to have a decent breakfast. soon as we placed our order & received drinks our children started freaking out because in our booth with us came out 2 huge roaches on the wall & by the table. needless to say,we all got up in disgust informed the manager of their apparant infestation & the only reply we received was (would you all like to switch tables?) we all completly lost our appetite & left the establishment in a hurry. i would strongly advise against anyone going to eat at any establishment that have roaches roaming around freely. for the rest of our vacation we will be sure to stay far away from there & even further when we return home...

Yelp lead us here for breakfast and I couldn't be more grateful! We were in town as a midpoint between Youngstown and Myrtle Beach and staying just feet away from an IHOP. Vishan was our server and he was friendly and helpful. We discussed the menu, as well as the vegetation in the area! The food was fast and hot, not to mention tasty as can be! I had been wanting a real Southern style meal and this was it. The grits were amazing. My Greek omelet was enough for two people. The kids' meal were huge as well. This was a great find!

Great experience! Friendly waitstaff, prompt seating, fresh food...no complaints here. My kids got sprinkles on their whipped cream for their pancakes...they loved it. Visiting local college and drove across town. Arrived at 1:20pm and they closed the restaurant as we pulled in and there was no way to talk them out of it although it is posted that they are open daily until 2pm. Off to Food For Thought. They have more reviews anyway.

Great place. Food was terrific. Five of us had pancakes, waffles, eggs, bacon, and one even had bacon pancakes. Food was terrific but even better was our waitress, Brigette, who made us feel right at home and who went out of her way for 9 year old grandson. Best coffee on our trip. Wish we had a restaurant like this where we live.

  • V C.

Food was delicious... so far the best pancake house we've been to in Williamsburg along the Richmond strip. Our server (and others) appear to be super nice however, we did wait a total of 40 minutes just to get our food. Our waitress disappears on us and we did not get to order until 20 mins from seating. Food however came out quick and hot. we are going to return and try other items. Hopefully we wont have to wait as long...

Excellent breakfast in a town full of pancake houses! If you've ever been to Williamsburg, you know there seems to be a pancake house on every corner. Southern Pancakes is one to not miss. Friendly staff, good selection, and great food. At most places, your eggs come the way they come even if you order over easy, medium, or hard. Our eggs were cooked perfectly (over medium), the sausage links were flavorful with the right spices, and the grits were perfect - I didn't even have to add butter or salt. The pancakes are excellent! Not too doughy and not too airy, and perfectly browned on the griddle. You have a lot of choices for breakfast in Williamsburg, but this should definitely be one of you're stops before a day of historical adventure, water slides, or coasters.

We came to Williamsburg to the CAX cottages @ Yorktown for a mini vacation. Though there are kitchens in the cottages, I wasn't up for cooking EVERYDAY! I'm on vaca! Anyway, we looked up a place to eat breakfast and found this heavenly place. Their pancakes were good. I had the fried catfish and grits and my husband ordered the salmon cakes. Both were really good especially the catfish. I will definitely come here again when I'm here again!

First time visiting. Cute place-clean restaurant and bathroom which is always a plus. Staff very friendly. I ordered biscuits and sausage gravy. I really enjoyed the biscuits--fluffy and homemade. Lots of gravy leftover. Definitely needed one ore biscuit! I will visit again. They had a large group of men in-maybe a men's breakfast for a church but staff was till attentive and everyone was having a great time! :)

The service was phenomenonal. The food was even better. I always go to mama steves for breakfast when in Williamsburg but my friend suggested this place so I figured why not. What a great decision. They have a large variety of choices, wonderful coffee, piping hot fast food delivered with amazing service. And the price was nothing you could beat. My friend got grilled cheese and fries and that was under $7. I got salmon cakes which came with grits and toast and I added potatoes and that was around $13. You can't beat that. This might just be my new go to when looking for breakfast in Williamsburg.

I was there for breakfast and got the BACON pancakes with a side of BACON. Can you tell I'm a bacon lover??Anyway I could taste the buttermilk and bacon in the pancakes. The bacon was perfect not to crispy not to chewy. I would recommend this place for breakfast. The service is good to nice and friendly. By the way do not listen to simon s comment because it's not a racist restaurant.

We had an altogether satisfactory experience. We were greeted warmly and made to feel right at home, even though it was early in the morning. It was clear the owners and staff take great pride in a great breakfasting experience. How can you tell? By the complete lack of that grimy, greasy "film of ages" on every surface that you find in other breakfast joints. Everything here is squeaky, squeaky clean. The food was marvelous -- simple, hearty, and cooked just right. We left full and happy and will return again.

Talk about a great breakfast! My entire family loved Southern Pancake and Waffle House. The chicken and waffles was not on the menu but sooooo delicious! We especially enjoyed the salmon cakes and biscuits. This reminded me of eating in a friends kitchen. So welcoming and comfy. Great choice.
