Second out of 2 disappointing trips to Dog St. Pub. One more and its a permanent write-off. The hostess was insufficiently mature to handle the crowd and needs to learn that customer service does not involve making the customer feel they are an annoyance. Family members work in the hospitality industry, so I know it is an early lesson to trainees. Food was spotty: Mussels were adequate but beef stew was excellent. Chicken Tika Marsala was room temperature and the rice was uncooked. Waitress started strong, but was too busy to do more than drive by a couple of times. She literally dropped the check on the table. Management has previously offered excuses for poor service, but it they who must train the staff and supervise their behavior. But I will say that the Beer was excellent.

Very disappointing with the size of the large plate selection of fish and chips. No where close to traditional English fish and chips. It was more like fish nuggets and only a handful of chips. Nit worth the price!! On a positive note, the beer is great!!!

We went on a Sat afternoon, after a walk down Duke Gloucester, had a seat at the bar, chairs are a little uncomfortable, the bar need a foot rest, but other then that I was very pleased with the selection of drafts,it was also good that they have tast of the different drafts, perfect size.We had a side of mussels very tasty, service was good . We defenatly will go back and try dinner.

I am sorry to say that this was one of the worst dining experiences I've had. To even give one star is being generous. My friends and I ate there for lunch after a morning in Colonial Williamsburg. It took about a half hour to get our drinks which were in cans that we had to pour ourselves which is fine but not for a half hour wait. The waiter said the reason for the long wait was because one of our friends beers had to come up from the basement which apparently is in another town. The food came out about another 20 min later, but not all of our food...oh no...my friends rare hamburger apparently took the longest to cook, about 10 minutes after ours. The food was under seasoned and what should have been simple pub food was pretentious and overly complicated with no flavor. I had the eggplant sandwich which was odd combination of ingredients and flavorless even with all of the accoutrements. The only saving grace were the chips. The waiter was inattentive and when he brought back our change, from our bill which took forever to get back, he told us he shorted us a nickel because he ran out. Who does that! This establishment should be ashamed of themselves for being so disorganized and Unaccommodating. If and when we visit Williamsburg again we will not be visiting this establishment.

DoG Street Pub, we love you! We have had the good fortune to find ourselves in Williamsburg twice in one month, and both times have made daily visits to the DoG. Now, we were warned by a local that because this is a new establishment, they are still working some kinks out, and yes I would have to agree that some aspects need to be re-thought out. However, over all I think this is a successful venture, and well, we like it! By the way, I should respectfully insert at this point that this is owned by the same person who owns "The Blue Talon" (flamed below...sorry! :-s). We generally found ourselves there in the afternoons, around 3-4pm, when it was pretty busy. We LOVED sitting right up the bar. The stools are comfy and supporting and generally invite you to linger way longer than one probably should. The color scheme is a restful mixture of blue, browns with wrought iron and heavy woods....and they even have the little under bar hooks for the ladies purses (love these small details). This is a pub, but I think it is a step above a pub, even given that I have been to a gastro pub before, this place, at least with respect to their huge selection of beers etc are far above anything I have experienced. My husband and I are a couple of self confessed beer snobs (is this possible?), and the DoG catered very well to all our whims. However, I picked a fabulous Belgian Beer "Hennepin" on the first day, and pretty much stuck to this throughout all our visits. My husband was a little more adventurous...but interestingly enough his final beer was a "Hennepin", proving that a woman knows a good beer! :) We generally stuck to their small plate selection. I picked the "hummus" on all days, and on all days it was fabulous...one tip to the DoG - only ever serve this with those fabulous pickled onions (amazing...so amazing, my husband kept stealing them)....not the sliced pickles...geeesh! My husband enjoyed the "crab pot", and on a subsequent visit thoroughly enjoyed the "fried green tomatoes". Our biggest disappointment was on our final day (8/12/12), so thrilled with our other experiences we decided to make this our final port of call before heading out of Williamsburg. Our first meal of the day (we are late risers), we showed up just as the doors opened at 11am. Opting this time for coffee (too early for beer). The coffee was excellent. "Illy", I think?...and very well made, presented in a fun stainless steel set. We both got excited about the "smoked salmon on focaccia" and thought it would make a good protein start to the day and leave our bellies happy. Not so. Michael, you really need to check this one. My husband's salmon was anemic (which made him wonder about how long it had been stored), and mine looked nuclear pink (I never like to see this...it screams cheap!...sorry, but it does!). The focaccia was soggy - why? The whole presentation seriously lacked any flavor...even of the aforementioned salmon. The entire thing was strangely ice cold, almost as if certain parts were pre made and kept in cold storage? The bar man might remember a lady asking for lemon wedges. This was my desperate attempt to inject some flavor. Nothing! We ordered a side of "chips" to share, which were lovely...exactly like we make them back home. We finished the chips, my husband mostly finished his meal, and I left half of mine. Disappointing! That said, we will definitely return. Like I said, we like this place...no, we LOVE this place! Yes, it's working out some things, and I truly feel it will. The staff are absolutely lovely. Very friendly, knowledgeable and attentive (honestly, I hate to dig again but, they could teach the BT wait staff a thing or two). We wish them well...just work out that menu, and the hands that are behind preparing it.

On the plus side: +great cask ale at bar while waiting for table; great menu for beers. +nice atmosphere upstairs. +would be a good place to watch a game; On the negative side: -Without being asked if it was okay with us, we were seated in the dark basement next to a wall with no windows. We would not have eaten there if we had known we'd be stuck in the basement. -Food: "average bar food." Fish and Chips - bun was stale and the fish was undercooked. My wife asked for a grilled cheese with Swiss but they couldn't switch out for cheddar for swiss. She ended up with salmon sandwich which was flavorless, and probably frozen and purchased in bulk. They offer salads, however this gastro-pub (as they call themselves) lacked health food choices. -Waitress: one of the least inspired and lackluster servers we have ever had. When asked if items "are good" our waitress avoided the question by saying that some dishes are popular. Quite frankly it was obvious that the waitress didn't know the food on the menu and was not helpful in guiding us to what may have been good. When asked for cranberry juice for our child the waitress said that juice could not be taken from the bar in case it is needed most for mixed drinks! Overall, unless drinking with my friends and watching the game - I would avoid this bar.

no bones about it this dog is no puppy when it comes to great service, food and craft beers. the fried green tomatoes are unbelievably awesome topped with bacon proscuitto and a smathering of goat cheese. the brat burger has to be tasted to believed..beyond good. same for the salmon burger..both are ginormus served with seasoned fries and malt vinegar. everyone enjoyed what they ordered immensely. the craft beers are wonderful..i had the rasputin one night..the 10 percent alchohol this mad monk was packing knocked me on my ass in tandem with two other pints of ale.. we ate here 2 times out of the days we were on vacay because it was that good and reasonably priced..and the prices are beyond reasonable for what you get ...and the service especially don and chris is warm and friendly. don and chris are the bomb! i miss this place already! road trip! definately worth a stop for some great food and drink!

Fun place, good food. The decor is lovely. I had a lentil-mushroom soup that was delicious. The burgers were good, according to my husband. Lots of beers and ciders.

The service wasn't good and the place seemed chaotic with their seating policy. They have self seating tables where you can sit next to complete strangers. It took a while for our waitress to take our orders and she never returned with our bread even after we asked for some. Overall the food was pretty good. They had great calamari and good deviled eggs. I would recommend the brat burger if you are hungry because they put a huge cut of veal between the buns. The cottage pie did not look like a typical beef pot-pie. I was disappointed to find it without a crust; instead it was in a bowl like how you would bake a ziti. The texture resembles mashed potatoes with ground beef. Although it was different than what I imagined it to be, it was pretty good. I forgot the proper name for the curry chicken, but it was a bit random to find in an American/British pub. It was lightly spiced and the chicken was a little too dry. The light curry sauce complimented well with their rice; not at all over powering. I highly recommend coming here if you are a beer lover. Most of the menu is beer! Cheers!

I have been here twice, once I ate inside and most recently outside. Both times I had a great meal. The salmon burger was GREAT! I am also a huge fan of the Aleworks Pumpkin Ale. This place also has once of the best selections of beer I have seen around town. The patio dining is a great place for people watching and the service is good. This is one of my new favorite places on Gloucester Street. Enjoy!

This is not a review of the food. We never got to try that. When my parents and I walked in to give our name, the very sweet but completely clueless hostess told us it would be a 45 minute wait to sit inside. Ok, we said, how long is the wait outside? She said if we could give her just a minute she would check for us. We waited five minutes then asked her again. She repeated the same "Just give me one minute to check." We waited 10 more minutes. Still no answer. Not a good sign when there's a wait to find out the wait, so we decided to leave. As we left, a woman nearby told us she and her husband had been promised the next outside table 15 minutes earlier, yet had seen another party seated before them. As I said, this isn't a review of the food since the terrible service at the start caused us to completely abandon ship. Obviously this place is still working out some serious kinks.

Surprised after the fact by the negative reviews...we went twice for lunch and it was great both times. Service was good and menu offered a lot of imaginative choices that didn't disappoint. Judging by the crowds, a very popular place and we'll definitely be back.

Great food and great service. My friends and I went on a cloudy afternoon and asked to sit outside, but it started raining and even though it was a busy and crowded friday night, we were able to move inside. We ordered 2 rounds of appetizers instead of a traditional app/entree and we were so happy. It was delicious and we were happy they didn't get upset or mess up our order since we just did apps. Highly recommend- great beer selection as well!

We went here to tonight for date night. Made reservations for 7:00 and they sat us on time. I love the atmosphere....all the different chairs, chandelier and the bartender in a bow tie. The service was a bit slow but once she got our drinks things got better. She was very polite and friendly. The menu...wow! What a selection of beer. I do not drink beer but if I did, it would be neat to have so many options! As for the food selection, I thought it was very small but made ordering easy. The hubs ordered the salmon burger and I ordered the dog street burger. Hubby really enjoyed the salmon burger. I had a bite and it was very flavorful and moist. He said he would order it again. As for my burger....very dry. I ordered it medium and it was so dry I sent it back. Not impressed. They made it again and it turned out very juicy. Yay, right? No. There was absolutely no seasoning on it. Just taste like plain hamburger. Sad face. Total bummer. I did not complain to the waitress because she was really busy and we had to go. The fries that came with the burger were yummy. All in all, restaurant was ok but not my favorite. I kind of wish we went next door to the Trellis instead!!!

I was very excited to get here and try this much talked-about new addition to the outstanding dining scene in CW. While I enjoyed the experience for the most part, you could definitely tell they were "new." The server was not that knowledgeable and took a couple of moon cycles to return with requests eg. we ordered one last round of beers after finishing dinner at around 7:45, did not get said beers until just before 8:20!!. The food runners weren't exactly polite and the bussers could make less noise with jackhammers in their hands. The food was good (ordered the Cottage Pie this time) and very British which is appropriate for the overall look and experience of the place. Everyone at the table enjoyed whatever meal they had ordered. I will definitely come back but hope as time goes on the service quality improves which I'm sure it will, new places always have a few growing pains. I think this will be an excellent addition to the town.

Stopped here because they had Left Hand Nitro Milk Stout on tap, even though they only had 2 stars on yelp. As long as we were there we ate dinner. It was fantastic. Everything we had was excellent, from the fried green tomatoes to the burgers to the black sausage, and we had a wide selection. I was so impressed that I signed up on yelp to write this review.

This was a nice surprise for us. After taking one of the Williamsburg walking ghost tours on a Sunday evening, we finished around 10 p.m. and had not yet had dinner. My husband and I stopped in and had a beer and were going to share a burger. The burger was terrific. I cannot remember the name, but it had Virginia ham and cheese on it ... it was cooked perfectly. The service was great for 10 p.m. on a Sunday evening. Would definitely recommend and visit again!

Pros: Food was very good Cons: The beer is expensive! $10 for a "stem" of beer is a bit absurd. Service was probably worst I've had in years.

I think there are probably a few tips that can make a difference between Dog Street being a three star place and a four. First, make sure you sit at the bar. I've always had amazing service at the bar and they have the awesome peanuts. Service outside of the bar has ranged from great to atrocious, but most of the time it's just horrible. The second tip is to stick with their burgers. Any of them are great, but make sure you at least try the pub sauce. The rest of the food can be pretty hit or miss. I like the pastas, tikka masala, and the fish and chips are decent. I'm not a fan of the crab and potatoes or the shepherd pie. Tons of amazing rotating beer options as well so grab a seat at the bar, order some beers, and enjoy a burger. Side note - I just noticed that Dog Street increased their prices by a couple of bucks. I mean, I know this is Colonial Williamsburg, but come onnnn. They're starting to border on being too expensive for the quality and experience.

Beer selection was great, however service was dismal. We originally thought our server was new, but the group we were with says he's been here for a long time. I thought the food was mediocre, nothing terribly great, and it was very overpriced for what we got. If visiting Williamsburg, you can do a lot better going elsewhere for less money, better quality food, and better service. I would avoid this place unless you just plan to drink and order a snack.

There's an awesome selection of weird sodas and tons of beers. It's a little loud, but not unbearably. The atmosphere is cool because the chairs are mix matched. Another unique thing about this place is that they put us on the wait list and sent a text message when our table was ready, which was helpful. We were able to go look at the shops around the pub while waiting for our table. Good food! Not too many options, but enough to offer everyone something. Service wasn't perfect- they forgot to bring out one dish- but our server was nice enough and boxed our leftovers for us in the kitchen.

The place was busy but they effectively handled the crowd. I was eating alone and opted to sit at a table. The server seemed rushed at times. I ordered the brick chicken and it was brought out within minutes. It made me feel like I was being rushed out. The chicken was dry and seemed like it had sitting under a warmer. It was hard to hear my server but I was able to get her attention as she was able to walk off and get my bill. The best part was the dessert that I ordered. I am just trying to figure out when I can go back for more sticky toffee pudding!

Our group of 10 came here for dinner and spirits ;-). Service was awesome and food was great. this is a very original place and very fun. Highly recommended for groups. Parking is limited so plan accordingly. Huge selection of brew......cheers And they have a cool store...

Pretty decent little place. Wasn't in love with the atmosphere. I know they are going for Ole timey British but it just felt dark and colorless. Good notes were that the food was good and timing was superb. I tried the Black Pudding which was really good. Calamari was average. And Lamb burger was decent as well. They WILL cook food to the temp you order so don't under shoot thinking they will screw it up. It is a bit hipster. HUGE beer selection. Overall a decent place. Just nothing to write home to mom about. Seems like they are trying to mix foodie with hipster.

A great casual place that you could take virtually anyone to-- parents, friends, dates, etc. The service is always great but the restaraunt does tend to get crowded, so head there earlier if you want more silence. The whole building is so strangely shaped and set up that sitting anywhere-- the basement, the bar, the back room, the shelf up to the right, or the patio-- is an awesome experience. With a huge beer list and great menu, you can't go wrong. My favorite entree is the Trece Pasta. It's chicken, red peppers, cashews, sauce, and pasta. It is to die for. The DoG Street Burger is also a close favorite, as well. And don't forget, the best way to finish a meal is the berries and meringue desert traditional to CW, whatever it is called.

Would give it a 3.5 if I could, the food was good but our server and his shadow(he was training someone) were not the best-the new server was certainly not getting the best training. But it is a nice place in colonial Williamsburg and was open late, we ate around 9:30. Overall the pasta was well cooked and burgers were well cooked and the bun was buttery, fries hand cut. The only reason I would deduct stars was due to our service (orders were messed up) and server wasn't very attentive but was a good place

  • Josh S.

The food menu is a bit limited, but has a good selection of burgers and sandwiches. The beer menu is fantastic with several pages of options as well as rotating specials. They have small plates to share and options that should satisfy most foodies. Fried green tomatoes and a cheese plate should provide time to look closely at all of the options.

What a fun spot to get some great food and drink!!!! We stopped in with a friends recommendation and was told that our wait would be 50 minutes. Thankfully they texted me after about 10 minutes to seat us. What a great service to text you when the table is ready!!!! We enjoyed the DOG burger, the prime rib, and the kids got a burger and something else. We also got a flight of beer (3 ssamples for $5) and a butterbeer. The food was very tasty and well prepared. The drinks were also great. This was probably our best meal in CW.

I really enjoyed my dining experience last night. My friend and I went at around 7:30 on a Saturday night and were very lucky to be seated immediately. The space is lovely. It's housed in a renovated bank and has a uniquely vintage look with high ceilings. The dinner menu was very simple, but me and my dining companion knew we wanted burgers anyways. Other than a half dozen different types of burgers (all served with a small bucket of thick cut fries) the menu features an assortment of small plates and large plates that collectively take up the front page of the menu. The inside of the menu is the real bread and butter- the beer! So many different options I didn't know where to start. I settled on a dog fish head IPA. In addition to its main beer menu they also have a separate seasonal beer menu. Holy moly the options are endless. The all-angus burger was really flavorful and moist. It was medium well when I had ordered it medium, but still tasty. I didn't eat the ham that came on top (I like the standard cheeseburger). My friend goes often and said the salmon burger is his go-to. Our server was very kind, but pretty slow. Had he checked up on us, we would have ordered second beers. Great spot overall. Lots of beers I need to try.

Oh man was this place delicious. My dad says I should dock them a star because they told us the wait would be about 45 minutes but they texted us within 15 so they are liars... But I don't think so! Well worth the shortened wait! Here is what we ordered: Steamed mussels Cheese tray - 3 different cheeses, very HARD toasted bread, honey, and nuts Fish & chips - unbelievable Bacon Cheese burger - pretty rare Carrot & ginger soup with half sub - my mom enjoyed it So I had the fish and ships and was not disappointed. Very crispy and melt in your mouth! Plus, the french fries were very good. But what took the cake was the tartar sauce... I know right? Totally unexpected but made the whole dish, loved it! This will be a favorite any time we hit up Williamsburg...

This was my second visit to Dog Street Pub. We enjoyed the late night menu, which has decent selection. It's only one of a few local places to get food late night. We got a regular burger and a salmon burger. Both were yummy, but the homemade hummus dip and chips were the highlight of our meal. My favorite part about this place is the atmosphere. I love that it used to be a bank and it is still has many of the original features. The bartenders wear bow ties to fit the 1920's theme. The place is charming with its mix match chairs and blue water jugs. Everyone gets a different style glass. It's a great place to visit if you are looking for an authentic experience. I might would only asked if they could add a few more options to there late night menu.

The food is pretty good. I had a fried oyster salad. The batter on the oyster was a bit thick and crunchy rather than delicate and crispy. Decent yet expensive beer selection. The patio dining area is really nice. I would recommend DOG street pub.

Pretty cool place. Not much to say on the drinks as I didn't order anything special. Jack on the rocks, splash of water. Seems like a cool place to hang and have a drink.

We've been here several times, since we usually bring our pup when we come to Merchant Square, as do most who sit on the patio at DoG Street Pub. A lot of socialisation occurs between patrons for this reason, and I love it! A lot of other reviews talk about poor service, but I guess I am lucky and haven't had a problem yet. There will usually be a wait during peak periods, but they have a pretty decent system set up where they will text you when your table is available, so you can do some wandering around the square. The food is 'with a British accent', so don't expect it to be authentic. That's probably for the best anyway! American food tends to have a little more spice and boldness, which is welcome. And of course, burgers. A few items I've tried are pretty on-point in terms of authenticity though; London Particular, Sticky Toffee Pudding, chips and vinegar, brussel sprouts. The beer menu is pretty extensive and the tasters are good value. There's a DoG Street bottle shop next door, which will have regular free tastings and other events advertised on the pub's specials menu. It's a nice addition, we will swing by some days just for a couple bevvies, and to stay apprised of what's coming up.

Came in at 1:20 pm and the place was empty on the outside but the menu looked great and we were excited to try the calamari. I walked in with my wife and 6 month old who doesn't quite use the highchair yet. We were just going to leave her in the stroller and since there wasn't that many people there, I figured it should be fine. There is a row of four-person and two-person tables, some put together to make six and whatnot. The waitress, a teenaged girl, put us in the corner where I couldn't fit a stroller. I politely asked for the end table where I could keep her in the stroller. She then proceeded to tell me how that 4-person table is for BIG parties, as opposed to the 4-person table they sat us at. I ended up leaving. Too bad customer service is lost.

Stopped in for dinner and was pleased with the experience. Our waiter, Frank, was quick to appear, knew the menu well, and was friendly and attentive. The food was reasonably good for bar food. My wife had a delicious pasta dish (pasta with artichoke hearts and asparagus in a tomato cream sauce) and I had the 3-slider special. The sliders were OK but we're a bit over cooked. Still, a good meal. The beer selection was good and I found a new IPA that I liked. Wifey had a nice lager and I ordered the flight that was paired with the slider menu. All in all, Dog Street was a pretty good experience. We'll go back on our next visit to the area.

Great place, good service. Food tasted amazing. I ordered the fish and chips (typical). I suggest it if you want a quick dinner. Also had their in house chocolate ice cream and spotted dick. Great desserts. If you're feeling adventurous, try the black pudding and Welsh rarebit all great choices! You won't be disappointed.

My organization has coordinated a leadership program for hundreds of Federal government employees in Williamsburg, twice a year, for the last three years. Dog street Pub has always been a restaurant that we have promoted to our federal customers and enjoyed ourselves. Unfortunately last night, I along with my colleagues, were provided with extremely poor customer service, and frankly it was one of the worse experiences at Dog street we have ever had. We typically reserve Thursday nights for our internal team dinner, and made a reservation for 8:00pm last night. We arrived at 8:00pm,was seated, but did not receive a drink until 45 minutes after the hour. Additionally, to make matters worse, our entire party did not receive all of our drinks until 9:00pm. We were in good spirits, and very excited to be there, so we did not make a big deal. The issue arose when I asked our waiter to provide us with shots, to celebrate one of my colleagues, whom will no longer be working with us. We visited Dogstreet earlier this week, and one of my coworkers bought shots to celebrate another colleague, so I mentioned that we would like to have the same type of shots. The shots were $14.00 a piece. I expected to pay a significant amount, but $70.00 for five shots that were mostly grenadine was a bit alarming. The waiter whose name was Kelly, made no mention of cost, nor did she acknowledge that she would use top shelf liquor. The shots were red at the bottom, blue in the middle, and had a little bit of tequila on top. I have had my fair amount shots, and I along with my colleagues, all identified that the shots had a small amount of alcohol in them. We asked Kelly about the price of the shots, and she took an offensive tone, then stated that we got what we asked for. We then requested to speak with the manager Chris, because of the poor service we had received from Kelly all evening. Chris arrived, and we told him about the miscommunication regarding the shots, but he immediately defended her. We were simply stating that the shots were one of many customer service issues that we experienced over the course of the evening. We explained that our entire party had not received all of our drinks until an hour after we sat down. Additionally, we explained that Kelly's attitude was unpleasant the entire evening, and that we were shocked because we always have a great experience. Chris had nothing to say, and essentially looked at us as if we were in the wrong, then proceeded to leave. Kelly returned with our checks, threw them on the table, and walked off without a word. Given we spent over $300.00 on food and drinks, we at least deserved an apology from the manager regarding the poor customer service we received. We always give Dogstreet our business, and promote the restaurant to our customers, but I will never do either ever again. Frankly, the gross disregard and lack of respect we experienced was egregious. I have never experienced such poor customer service, especially a restaurant that I patronized and supported. I truly understand where your restaurant's priorities lie, and it's not with the customer. Please contact me at JJm134@gwu.edu if you have any concerns regarding this review. Jonathan McGee

Had a selection of small plates on a hot day. The food was fresh and tasty. LOVED the rarebit and fried green tomatoes. Even though it was busy the waiter was efficient --even brought us two glasses of iced tea when my husband said how thirsty he was -- and the food arrived quickly Our first visit and not our last

I had the fried green tomatoes and Cheerwine because that's what northerners eat when they visit the south and try to emulate southerners. The tomatoes were slices super thin, breaded in something really light and severed with a peppery arugula. The Cheerwine was Cherry Coke and they called it Cheerwine. I also ate an endive salad because I was still full from yesterday's lunch but ended up eating all of Dehlia's fries and feeling full as shit, something that happens with regularity, anyway.

Had a company birthday lunch and was less than satisfied? The waiter was sloppy not what you want in an eating establishment. I ordered the soup and half sandwich and tried to substitute the cheese from Swiss to cheddar and found out the sandwich is pre made. I don't know what others expect when you eat out but a premade sandwich is not what I am going to a restaurant for. I can get a fresh made sandwich at WAWA down the street. I have eaten their appetizers before and they were very good and the bear selection is good. So if you want an appetizer and beer this is the place, I would not eat a meal here again.

Food was alright. Burger wasn't as good as five guys. I mean, what burger is? Selections of beers was pretty awesome and the server was money. Not bad. I'd come back again. I think next time is order the lamb burger though.

The food was pretty good. I guess the real reason why I am giving this restaurant two stars is because of the service. Or should I say lack of service. We went there for lunch on Sunday 6 Sept and I have to say it was probably was the worse service I have ever received. The waitress took several long minutes to even come to our table after we were seated. Wife ordered an ice tea and I ordered a coke. Several more minutes later my WARM can of Coke with a glass of ice was brought with her tea. I might also point out that the water tasted like it was tap water. The waitress never asked us how our food was and never asked us at anytime if we ever needed anything. Once we were finally able to flag her down we were able to pay our bill. The restaurant was not busy and it looked well staffed so I am not sure the reason for this lack of service. I am thinking given the location this restaurant probably has mostly tourists as their customers. I am thinking they feel they do not have to worry about customer service since there will be little repeat business. If you are visiting Colonial Williamsburg I would suggest trying one of the other establishments.

This is a great place if you are not in any hurry whatsoever and don't mind eating overpriced, average tasting food. A great location and cool building, alas no atmosphere and no real reason to come back. We won't.

First time in Williamsburg and came here for some brews and a bite to eat. Our server was excellent; Brad had an excellent knowledge of the menu (beverage and food), great personality, and made us feel at home. Not only will we be back, but we will recommend this establishment to family and friends.

A sunny 65 deg Sun afternoon in se VA in the beginning of MAR is a VERY welcome treat after weeks of teens & 20's. It might as well be an 80 degree day in Anchorage! The car was washed & gleaming. The DoG Street Pub in Colonial Williamsburg was 60 miles away. The sunroof was open, the music just enough to fill the pauses in the conversation as we opted for an afternoon for "us" and the cruise there & back seemed like a perfect opportunity to discuss the week's events. I know the name appears to have a typo, but as the eatery is situated on the West Duke of Gloucester Street, the location seemed to name itself as all the locals already lovingly refer it as DoG Street. The manager has been a friend for many years and I had never been to her establishment. Knowing her attention to detail along with her customer oriented mindset combined with her worker's interests as one of her utmost priorities; I knew that this was going to be a special day. And it was! It started with the Hostess knowing my name when I mentioned the manager was holding a table for us if it had gotten too busy. She came and greeted us and then sat us herself. Our server very politely waited as we monopolized the manager's time with chit-chat. When she stepped away, our server was on the mark and presented us with the menus we had requested in addition to the cuisine. As you'll see, we were occupied for a bit trying to decide on one thing to eat, whether to try a flight of wine or even a flight of beer, or a number of non-alcohol beverages. The menu's (yes, plural) were easy to read, understand, and each had its own purpose. The dining menu for lunch, dinner, or late night, was filled with exceptional options that contained comfort foods that we can all enjoy to the lamb burger -which I chose on this occasion- and beyond. The drink menu led you to feel that the bartenders were more than just those who could pour a draft from the tap and they were quite exceptional. The Whiskey menu contained an array of Scotch, Irish, and American bourbons that was only matched by the wine menu. Both would enable a sommelier of either discipline to appreciate the chance to define of all, or some, to those who are eager to learn more about them aside from the year it was bottled. The feedback of those who imbibe the spirit of choice would keep you in your seat for a time on its own. I opted for the Belvenie Portwood 21 Scotch as recommend by her as I like to think that I appreciate good scotch. My usual is Johnny Walker Blue, but I am always open to a different take on a good Single Malt whiskey. The Ale on tap and in bottles was just as immense in quality options as you would expect an English Pub to offer. I immediately inquired about the Aventinus and combined with the lamb burger, in my opinion, was a perfect complement and contrast alike for my discerning palate. Stopping and sipping some water occasionally to cleanse the palate to have a sip of the Portwood made the meal quite delightful. We finished our meal with a desert that was light, very flavorful, and just the right touch to end the meal. We rarely have desert, but made a conscience decision to only consume half of our sandwich (a very gentle euphemism for the most tender burger I've ever had), as the Kentucky Tiramisu, with in-house made whipped topping, was just right. A mix of soft and creamy cinnamon whipped cream over the bourbon dipped ladyfingers complemented one-another in taste and texture. The portion was measured so that one person could finish, but was better to enjoy it with someone and discuss the experience we enjoyed in each bite. While Colonial Williamsburg gets its share of visitors from local and abroad, the locals know that DoG St Pub is so much more than a place that slings swill and has pretty decorations. The marble floor in the entryway is the original floor that was installed in the 1930's. It was saved and brought back to life. The little touches that most folks don't notice, or just take for granted, when taken in one-by-one can truly be appreciated. The staff, every one of them that I encountered, seemed genuinely happy to be there as opposed to some places that you see a server who is only there to get a paycheck. I feel that they are there by choice, which any others, like me, who have worked in the service industry, is quite often the case. I don't believe any of them were putting on act as their boss was with speaking with us several times, as not all of them saw that and were still quite cheerful. In summation, the food, drink, options , staff, ambiance, décor, and the entire atmosphere were nothing short of magnificent and well worth the drive there and back. I am extremely confident in saying that if you are going to Williamsburg, make this ONE of the destinations to visit. Even if it's just for a pint at the bar, it's something you'll not forget, but rather remember fondly as the English pub in Williamsburg you visited while there.

Celiac/Gluten-Free Review: As a Williamsburg local, I love having a place in the Historic Area that I can bring out-of-town guests without having to worry about what I can eat for dinner. DoG Street Pub doesn't have a dedicated gluten-free menu, but the staff is generally knowledgeable about what can be eaten and what can't be. My favorite dessert-- Eton Mess-- can be found here, and it's spot-on to the British recipe! The food is good, the service is honestly a little inconsistent in quality, and the restaurant can make it very difficult for conversation (it can be loud at certain hours likely because of its walls-- it did used to be a bank!). It's definitely worth a visit if you can go during the off-peak hours!

Great Moscow Mule and food was good also. I got a salmon salad which had a lot of flavor. Husband got the bangers and mash. Had to send it back first bc it was luke warm but the 2nd plate they sent was much better. Very interesting inside to see the decor.

Walked right out of Colonial Williamsburg into this little place and was expecting something different. Very excited to see Mead on the menu but it was extremely difficult to find a place at the bar or at a table. Service was fine, ambiance was bland and the chicken curry soup was okay. Prices were right but it was missing the warm, welcoming feeling..

Great place in colonial area. Bar service is good and the bartenders are good talkers. Easy to strike up conversation with new people there. I got the brat burger, which was excellent. The fries were awesome as well. Draft selection is small, but they have plenty of bottles to make up for it. I never would have guessed that the restaurant is only two years old. It feels really well established and so well put together. Should be on your list of places to stop.

Really would have liked to give it four stars, but the service knocked it back one. We came in on a Friday with a reservation, we arrived about 25 minutes early and asked the hostess if there was a table for us. If not, that was A-OK, we would be happy to wait at the bar or outside and enjoy a drink. Hostess was very friendly and said they could seat us now, I even asked her "Is it ok if we just have some drinks for a bit before we order dinner, because we are happy to sit at the bar?" and she assured me that it was fine for us to order drinks/apps, and just chill out. I mean it is our table after all! So we were seated at one of those tables that shares bench seating with other tables (banquette, whatever), and my husband and I looked at each other and I could tell we were just not feeling it. So our waiter comes over, also very friendly, and I asked if we could be moved to one of the little two tops next to the window, and apologized for our weirdness about the table. He was very accommodating and we moved to more private table with nice view (this was fairly early in the evening and crowd had not started to come in yet) Well, I guess when we switched we moved out of his section, because then we had this waitress.... It seems like several reviews are complaining about the slow service, but we had basically the opposite problem. She was very "rushy." We immediately ordered two pints, and told her we would like to enjoy our drinks (and heavily implied that we would be ordering many drinks afterwards) but she was back in like 2 minutes asking if we were ready to order food and trying to take away our beer menus. NOOOO! The beer menu is so awesome, we were surely ordering more, and just reading the menu is fun in itself to see everything they offer. So we order two more pints, and some appetizers. We got the cheese plate (fine) and the fried green tomatoes (meh) I did like the little arugula mixture they had incorporated into the tomato stack but the tomatoes themselves did not seem ripe enough, and the breading was a little bland. Time for more beer! And here is our waitress who seems extremely eager that we order entrees immediately. and again, trying to take away the blessed beer menu!! We order yet another pint (this is getting to be a fun evening) and finally give in and order some entrees because she seemed really irritated that we were not ordering food, though we were clearly running up a nice little tab. The entrees were tasty, I ordered the salmon burger medium, and it was cooked very nicely, flaky and not overdone and had a nice flavor. Though I did sort of forgo eating the bun because it was enormous and I has afraid to even try to pick it up and eat it burger style. Chicken tikka masala seemed good too. The chips/fries were great, but after three or four pints, most chips/fries probably seem great! Then our waitress came back over when I was not even close to being done and asked if we would like boxes....Calm the heck down woman!!! At this point, it was pretty comical that she was clearly trying to turn our table...though I honestly could not understand why. I mean, we were two people sitting at a two top, it wasn't like we were taking up a large table and ordering water with lemon and side salads and camping out there for hours (our bill for two people was nearly $100, and this is a reasonably priced place)... I understand they get crowded, but you should at least allow people to enjoy themselves without making them feel like they have to scarf down their food and push them out the door. Anyway, beer great, food pretty good, service could have been more to our liking.

The service was okay, but the food is really hit or miss. Their idea of Welsh Rarebit is just bizarre, serving it as a spread already on toasted bread (instead of being able to dip it), and all the key flavouring ingredients (garlic, onion, etc) served whole in a small side dish. Seriously, WTF is this supposed to be? Also, the fried green tomatoes were awful, since the tomatoes were completely uncooked. You're supposed to fry them for 2 minutes, not just drop them in until the batter is barely crispy enough to hold onto the tomato. However, all the toppings for the fried green tomatoes were great, and the black pudding was delicious as well, though the portions could be a bit bigger, especially considering appetizers are meant to be shared amongst multiple people at the table, and I didn't particularly appreciate the server giving me grief over asking for the eggs to be fried hard instead of runny.

Good spot in the heart of a colonial land. Really the only quality bar/pub with TVs in the area, and solid food with many beer options. Salads are actually quite good, and the staff is friendly.

Good experience! Cool environment, the building is really cool inside. The service was really good, everything came really fast. The beer selection was huge, I didn't have one, but it looked like a good selection. The food quality was very good, I had a burger and really enjoyed it. The food came extremely fast, I think less than 20 minutes. We were paying for the bill 45 minutes after we arrived. Definitely recommend it if you are in the area.

We sat at the bar and were attended to quickly by the smiling Patricia. I had the Fried Eggplant sandwich which was spectacular. I want to recreate this sandwich at home, the humus and goatcheese contrasting with the green tomatoes and the cucumber on the nut bread was beatiful. The beer selection was to be respected and I enjoyed a couple of local brews with my meal. The old guy had a corned beef sandwich and a flight was pleased.

Food was delicious but service was so-so. The server neglected to ask my daughter what she wanted to drink and when we did place her drink order she seemed bothered by the request. The atmosphere inside is very loud and noisy. I had the salmon burger which was awesome and my daughter had the roast beef sandwich. Others in our party had the lamb burger and corned beef sandwich. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Portions were very generous and everything was cooked perfectly. I think if we would have been able to sit outside and if the server was a bit more friendly & attentive I would have given the review 4 stars.

We went for lunch during our day at Colonial Williamsburg--two teenagers, two adults. My husband and I both love beer, and had a couple of good ones. My husband loved the Rail Sandwich, which the waitress also proclaimed the best thing on the menu. I had the lamb burger, which was really yummy--served with a very nice tzatziki. My son proclaimed the Brat Burger excellent. Both the "chips" (that is, fries) and the "crisps" (that is, chips) were excellent. Kids loved the root beer. Bottom line: better than average pub food, great beer, nice friendly atmosphere.

My Dog Street Pub experience was sadly, disappointing. It started off well, but slowly went downhill. Service and atmosphere are probably hit or miss depending on where you sit. For us, it was a miss. The evening started off well enough; we sat in the bar area while waiting for a table, and our service was fast, friendly, and helpful. Great atmosphere, lots of people but not packed, music at the right level. Then we were led to our table: downstairs. Huge mistake. The downstairs was quiet, a little cold, and the service was much, much slower. Gone was the fun atmosphere of the upstairs dining and bar area. Our waiter was not very attentive, and our food and drinks were slow to arrive. The menu was appetizing, but nothing we ordered met our expectations. The fried green tomatoes lacked seasoning, and although the outside breading was nicely fried, neither the breading nor the tomato itself was properly seasoned, leaving us with a bland appetizer. My entree was equally unseasoned. The Tortiglioni pasta sounded like it should have been full of flavor: creamy tomato sauce with artichoke hearts, asparagus, Kalamata olives, bacon, and Parmesan cheese. Somehow, plenty of capers also made their way into the dish, and later realized that the dish had been completely lacking bacon! Even with the strong flavors from the olives and capers, the dish completely lacked seasoning. No salt, no pepper, no herbs of any kind. It wasn't a terrible dish, and once I added some salt and pepper, it was better, but still unremarkable. The highlight of the evening was the Rum Butterbeer, which had plenty of rum, but lacked the sweetness my server assured me of when I inquired. They also offer "tastes" of different draft beers, which is nice if you don't want a lot, or prefer variety over quantity. But those "tastes" add up pretty quickly, so be careful! I would probably try a few other places in Williamsburg before heading back here.

My cousin commented on how Dog Street really didn't have that many choices for shared apps and I agree...I tried crab cake sandwhiches at 3 different restaurants while in Virginia/North Carolina and Dog Street's was the worst...just wasn't that good. Also, I've been to little cafe's where all you can get is a soda from a can...but in a big pub like this, they need to put in a soda fountain.

Nice casual place. Interesting dinner choices. Was not impressed with the hostesses. They were too busy talking to each other rather than letting us know where we could sit. Our waitress was very nice & attentive. Food was good. Cheesecake was awesome. Huge beer selection.

Entering the Dog Street Pub is like turning on an episode of the Twilight Zone and getting sucked right through the screen. Not really though. Ben and I happened to be here on the Friday night of William and Mary's Homecoming weekend of 2013, so the entire place was filled with alumni reuniting. We felt like we were in an episode of the Twilight Zone because of how dang jolly everyone was - people who hadn't seen each other in 10 years were chuckling and clanking together mason jars of beer. It was strange in the most joyous way possible. The food was incredible. I had one of the best burgers of my life at this place and I thank them for that experience. I'm a burger gal and it's not every day that I come across a burger I would add to my Yelp list of best burgers. Dog Street Pub surely deserves it. We had good service despite how packed it was. We waited for thirty minutes but it was well worth the wait.

There is a reason your last ten meals were Mexican, American, Italian, or Asian. Notably, they were not English. I gave this 4 stars because I think the food was well done. But you've got to know going in that it's English fare, which doesn't win over other types of food. But, I'm visiting Colonial America! This was the perfect start to our vacation - feeling like I was back at the founding, eating a hearty meal right by the farm. I tried the Pork in Broth. I'd take a bowl of Pho over this, all the same, I enjoyed it. My wife got a salad, that she says still tasted English somehow. Daughter, the split pea soup, which she ate a quarter of. My son, the fish and chips, which he liked. We all had the Welsh Rarebit for an appetizer, which we really liked. We also shared a cheese board, which was fine, but the three cheeses were all similar. This admittedly rare form of review is that the food isn't all that pleasant, but it was well done, and I'm very glad we ate here!

My group of 6 ate here on a Friday around noon time. It was packed but that is expected there was a 40 minute wait for a table. A group did walk in and start just sitting at the large table outside and instead of stopping them the staff just set the table for them and let them sit. Eh, the customer is always right, right? The other thing is that we waited but the hostess never explained that the high top tables when you first enter were open seating. The whole thing was available but she never told us. When we figured it out it was way too late and we had to wait the 40 minutes. We would've been very happy to sit in those seats. Anyway the service was sub-par. The server did ok but they were busy so we did not feel as though the pub was happy to have us as customers. We were just another number. At one point a server dropped off a sandwich for my sister-in-law and just walked away. She tried to get his attention to get some mayonnaise but he was gone in a flash. Our party each had a lunch meal and everyone was just OK with it. There was nothing that stood out as excellent. We were hungry and they served some food. The beer choices are way too expansive and you have no time to really look at it as they were busy and just wanted us to get in, get our food and get out so some more folks could sit down. Now the one thing that left a sour taste in my mouth was that my daughter ordered a plain cheeseburger. Not the kids menu as that is a half burger but a regular cheeseburger plain with fries. It was $12. That to me is outrageous but maybe I'm wrong. It's there in Merchants square and maybe dinner is better but I will probably not head back to find out there are so many more options in town.

I would recommend this pub for drinks or perhaps just appetizers. The beer list is great and they have a decent number on draft for tasting. There was a wait but they will text you when a table is ready which was nice. They weren't very accommodating of special orders and said that some things were "pre-made" which was disconcerting. I ended up getting a burger, which was not good and I could not bring myself to eat. My son liked the fish and chips. I might stop here for a drink but try one of the other restaurants in town for dinner.

Had lunch here today. In the wonderful world of expensive food around Colonial Williamsburg, this turned out to be a good choice. My wife had the Really Large Grilled Hotdog. To describe this as Really Large is an understatement. Think tree trunk on a bun. Great flavor and two people might be able to share. I had the fish and chips. The two pieces of fish were huge. Excellent and very flaky and about 2 inches thick. Price was great for the fill with a couple of beers. Highly recommended for lunch.

Come here for an early dinner during a training in Colonial Williamsburg looking for something other than Tavern food. We had a the hummus plate which is delicious! I highly recommend it! I tried several of their beers, all bar hosts I talked to were very knowledgeable of the beers on their list. I requested a non dairy sauce for my pasta and the chef totally accommodated for me. If ever in town, I will be sure to visit this Pub.

This is a neat pub just off of Duke of Gloucester Street in Williamsburg. The place is high ceilinged and hard surfaces, but has a good energy. The bartenders rock bow ties and they are happy to offer a recommendation for one of their excellent beer selection. I had a baked chicken with brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes for dinner. It was a good comfort food meal, though nothing out of this world. My fellow diners had the burgers and fish and chips, and were content with both. I'll admit that my rating may be more based on the beer than the food, but that's my priority. If you're looking for great beer and perfectly adequate food, it's worth a try. If you're looking for good beer only, I can't think of a better place in town.

Ate here our first night in Williamsburg. My husband had the Ploughman's Platter and ate every last bite. I had the Endive salad, and was left feeling that it was a bit lackluster. The beer menu was vast, but our waiter seemed annoyed to have to answer any questions about it. We thoroughly enjoyed eating outside.

I liked everything about this place but the prices. Food was interesting but the appetizers were small portions. Entrees were big but not overly flavorful. Fish and chips was bland but was white and flaky. Prime rib was huge. Tried the cheese platter which was small but good and the fried green tomatoes that were paper thin, neither which were really shareable. Tons of beers that ranged from $5 and up. Atmosphere was cool. Would like to hang out here without kids but the kids gobbled up the buttered noodles. 100$ for dinner.

I've only been to Dog Street Pub twice. The first time was "nice, not thrilling, but nice". I had the DoG Street Burger which was good, but didn't blow me away. The ambiance is neither dive or sports bar or gastropub or any other quantifiable style. It seems like they're going for gastropub, but there were huge TVs dominating the bar that allowed me to watch a football game while eating. The second time I attempted to go, we had a group of about six to eight people. The tables outside were free and there were a few tables inside that were empty, but they told us it would be a 90 minute wait even though it was a little later in the evening when the dinner rush should have been dying down. We weren't going to wait that long and kept moving to another place down the road which sat us immediately and had cold hard cider in my hand within minutes with just as an impressive beer list. If there's no wait and you're in Merchant's Square, you can't beat the location, otherwise there are alternatives that are just as good nearby which don't get as busy.

I was just passing through and thought I'd venture over to Colonial Williamsburg. After frolicking or really tripping all over the snow, I wandered into this restaurant as a hungry lone wolf. The staff were congenial and the bartender was especially nice because my phone was completely dead and he was a huge help by letting me change my iPhone. The beer selection is amazing - they even have barelywines (my favorite). I ordered the Black Pudding and the Fried Green Tomatoes - both were good little, nice and flavorful dishes. I will definitely be returning for more sigh seeing and to try more food at this place!

Truly a gem for civilized dining and drinking in a sea of touristy crap. Local beers and ciders - including cask ale! - plus gastropub fare that is the best food by far in the Colonial Williamsburg area. Also the service, wow, it's like many of the servers are actually interested in your enjoyment. Seriously, a must go that can't go wrong.

Stopped in for a quick, late night bite. Very interesting food. You've definitely got to have a taste for it. We tried the fried green tomatoes, which were astounding. I'll probably dream about them. We also tried the welsh rarebit. Interesting indeed! Not for me though. A shock to the senses. I'll probably stop by again to try the variety of beers and some other food items. I love gastro pubs, so hopefully the rest of the menu doesn't disappoint!

Amazing beer selection and good food. I don't tend to go here frequently because it is usually very crowded and loud, which I suppose shows you how popular it is. Usually have to wait 20-45 minutes for a seat. You can leave your name and they'll text you when your table is read, so go early and then shop around Merchant Square.

Good selection of beers, decent daily specials on food and drink. Make sure you're there early though as sometimes they'll tap out. I tried the Bratburger, which was delicious. Make sure you get their house sauce!

Dined on 11/24/2012 Micro beer lovers, this is the place for you in the shops at Colonial Williamsburg. Dog Street Pub has an excellent array of brews from all around the country, including one from Du-Claws in Bel Air Maryland. I love German style bier, especially if it was brewed in Germany, so I ordered the 20oz Draft of Einbecker Winterbock (8.5%), and Sheri had the 5.5oz Unibroue La Fin Du Monde (9%). We both enjoyed out biers to the last drop!! Note: All draft Biers are specialty items and you won't find any watery bier (Miller, Bud, Coors, etc.) on tap. But if you like those weak tasteless offerings, then yes they are available by the bottle, as well as a ton of other bottled offerings from around the world (literally) all listed on a two full-page bier menu. There are also a couple of different bottled ciders and one on tap. Lunch was fabulous. I had the Soup & Sandwich special (Meg H., this is very clearly listed as a half-sandwich on the menu). The sandwich special is different everyday, and today it was a toasted Turkey, cranberry mustard, and guerie cheese on a 7-grain bread, quite good!!! (note: I would have added some pickled onions to it). The soup was a wonderful rendition of a Roasted Red Pepper Bisque, that was absolutely delicious. My wife kept grabbing my spoon for tastes and ended up eating half of my soup...LOL!!! (see pictures) Sheri had the Curried Chicken Salad sandwich that was served open-faced. This was a very uniquely, but deliciously flavored offering that we both enjoyed. It was served on focaccia bread, which would have been better toasted, and we ended up just pushing the chicken salad onto the plate to eat without the bread. The serving size of chicken salad was huge. (see pictures) Both offerings came with super crunchy and quite Yummy kettle chips. We ate at the Bar, as there was a 45 minute wait, which was probably more like 60 minutes. I found the hostess to be pleasant but not overly friendly as she was swamped. The bartender did a great job with a full-house on a holiday weekend. The Bar stools are not as uncomfortable as L. L. would have you believe, but they are very heavy and hard to move around once you sit. I also think the prices to be quite fair considering that this restaurant is located smack dap in the middle of Colonial Williamsburg on the main road which is vehicle restricted within immediate walking distance to the historic area. My wife and I frequent Williamsburg often, and make no mistake we will be coming back to the Dog Street Pub!!! Ein groß Bier, bitte! Dànké!!

wait for table was 45 minutes yet sitting there we saw several tables of the same size get seated before us! No communication from the hostess only three feet away. No consolation - no words - no offer of drink or even a menu to look at. Gee! Then after waiting an hour and a half it took at least 10 minutes for anyone to greet us at the table. Experience was a reminder that this place is not worth the wait for the poor service. As a LOCAL, there are other places I would choose. Food is OK, nothing special. Good location and good beer selection.

We went here after our dinner at a place relatively close by. At first the initial presentation of the front was very nice. Walking in, it seems as if the place was an old bank or church that was converted to this pub. The atmosphere is a little loud and the lighting was a bit bright but overall was very respectable. Take a note that the bar is fairly large and if you're looking for a quick sit and drink/eat type deal, the table in the very center of the restaurant is considered "open seating" Which means if there is a seat, take it (pretty much just an extension of the bar). The beer selection consists mainly of craft beers local to the area. I liked a lot of what they had to offer and had a great time. Overall, I'd come back but if I do, I'd only go back to do exactly what we did - which was come to kick back a few beers and move on.

I finally got a chance to check out Dog Street Pub yesterday. I was very impressed with the beer selection. Between the draft and bottle selection, there is something for everyone. I went with my family, and I can tell you that nobody was inspired by the menu selection. We ended up ordering a bunch of appetizers, and they were all pretty good. The stand out by far was the calamari. The big disappointment was the service. The place wasn't that crowed, but our server was never to be found. When she was there you could tell she didn't want to be there. Everybody has a bad day, but I don't think it was just the server. Not the most inviting environment.

Damn fine lunch....black pudding with a fried egg and sautéed apples for a starter followed by a delicious London "split pea" soup and rounded out with a terrific Ploughman's lunch. Spectacular home pickled vegetables....only short coming was the cheese....sad because they have a splendid cheese shop 40 yds away. A very underwhelming cheddar. The Branston pickle made up for it though.

My fiancé and I were looking for a down to earth pub style restaurant to grab a bite to eat during a rainy evening. We saw some great reviews for Dog street and decided to try it out. When we walked in at 5pm the very young hostess told us we would have a 20 minute wait, even though there were plenty of seating for two. We watched for twenty minutes as multiple young ladies arrived on shift joining the hostess, standing around to discuss what might happen if they get a rush of people. We watched what felt like a never ending swap of menus where a hostess would pick up 5 menus, hand them to another girl who would walk downstairs followed by another female bringing up 5 more. We watched this happen over and over again while waiting to be seated in one of the many available seats. Once we were seated, we put in drink orders and asked for bread. Shortly after, we put in our dinner orders, reminding the waiter that we hadn't gotten out drinks yet. Our dinner arrived less than 10 minutes later, and before our drinks arrived. Surprisingly, the brat burger and grilled asparagus were FANTASTIC! We were very happy with the food. I didn't get my mixed drink until I was almost finished my meal, even though the waiter was walking around aimlessly looking for something to do. I would love to give this place more stars for the great food but the service was very disappointing and extremely impersonal for a "gastropub." I would not go back

It's a loud pub. The food is good but greasy, I had the fish and chips. And it was full of flies inside the building when I was there. We were literally swatting at the flies to keep them off our food. I haven't gone back in almost a year. Service was good.

Very loud, ok food nothing to brag about. Wait staff not so welcoming. Hostess could smile a little more. All in all wish I hadn't come. Only positive thing is thew beer is good, high priced but good. Had the fish and chips, I have he better cheaper.

The Dog Street Burger is one of the top burgers Ive had. The beef had such great taste - so atypical of the frozen burgers reataurants serve nowadays. Beer selection is constantky changing is quite eclectic. Worth a visit

This is a very good restaurant/ pub! The food was great and so was the atmosphere! I got the corned beef brisket sandwich and it was phenomenal! Plus the TV's were very entertaining! If you are in Williamsburg, Virginia this is the place to be!

First visit. Just stopped in for a beer. Been waiting to come here for months; exited to finally do it over the Run for the Dream weekend. Stopped by yesterday, but it was the one day this year that they closed. Stopped back today since I just couldn't leave town without checking them out - glad I did! Great beer selection at good prices (there are gastropubs now that charge upwards of $20 for a 10oz snifter). Menu looked tasty, but we needed to get on the road. Bartender was very knowledgable about the beer selections, which is always helpful. In picking out beers for a tasting flight, he suggested a beer that I would never have considered, but I'd now add it to my list of favorites. Wife enjoyed a pint of rye ale. Looking forward to our next trip to Williamsburg; will spend more time at DoG Street pub!

Great beer and wine list, including sours and a hand pull for beer and at least 15 wines by the glass. The menu is a fun mix of Classic British and local. For example, I followed Welsh Rarebit with a wonderful fried oyster salad. The lady next to me raved about the fish and chips, which appeared to be Panko crusted. I am working in the area off and on for a while and will definitely be back.

Delicious!! And fairly reasonable priced for the location! I got the salmon burger and both the burger and fries were so good. I drank the pub sauce right out of the container. I just wish they had given a few more fries, and that fries were offered with every plate (that's just smarter business). Our waitress (Kiana?) was very friendly and attentive. The restaurant only gives you tiny water glasses, which is dumb since I drink a lot of water, but they give you a carafe as well, so I guess it evens out. I'd definitely come back here and order the same thing!

Holy F! The seats at the bar are extremely hard to get into. The chairs are jammed tightly together and nearly impossible to slide on the floor, not to mention incredibly loud. Service at the bar was painfully slow though once we finally ordered, the food came out quickly. Food was good but was so irritated about the above mentioned things that I had to take away 2 stars. Interesting menu, always crowded, outside seating, huge selection of beers.

We did pre and post drinks here before dining across the street at Fat Canary, so I can only review on the atmosphere and bar. Their beer list is amazing. I was blown away by the choices. The bartenders are so informed on every drip of alcohol in that bar that they can recommend something for every palate. My boyfriend is a rum drinker and they were out of his favorite so the bartender informed him on other choices that he seemed to really enjoy. I had a pumpkin beer from a Williamsburg brewery which was fantastic. I wish I could have taken a case back with me to Maryland. The atmosphere is lively and the food, although I didn't try any, looked great. Definitely hit up this spot if you're in town. They have a great patio as well if you're looking to dine/drink al fresco.

Food was good. Service- AWFUL. Our waitress was Michaela (sp?). There were 4 of us seated for lunch outdoors, and we asked a passing by server (not our waitress) if he could move/fold the umbrella blocking the sun. He said he wasn't allowed to, but he said he'd do it anyway, and folded it down. Our waitress Michaela came back in a few minutes and she said "who did this? our chef doesn't allow it". I responded "we didn't do it, someone on the staff did" She responded angrily: "who was it?!" I responded: "I don't know their name" We then asked if we could move the table or be re-seated at a table in the sun, to which she agreed eventually...though she was irritable at this point. New table...same waitress... I ask about the plougman's lunch plate, which was advertised as having deviled eggs. I asked how many came with it, because we were deciding between the deviled eggs alone, or the whole lunch plate. She stated there were 4. We ordered it + our entrees. Plougman's plate comes out, and it has one-half of a deviled egg. When Michaela passed by, I asked about 4 vs 1, and the following exchange began: Her: Well, I guess there's only 1. It all depends on the chef. What do you want me to do? You don't want it anymore? Us: Well, we were just trying to find out why the difference, we ordered it because we thought there were 4. Her: Well, I'm sorry, I'm a terrible person for that. We didn't create a scene because we hadn't got out entrees yet, and she was frankly a terrible personality and were afraid she'd spit (or worse) in our food. Entrees came, food was good, but she never once came to check on us. We ordered a second round of drinks and it took about 10 minutes for them to arrive. When the wine did arrive, it took another 5 minutes to get me a wine glass (because I was drinking beer). The bill arrived, with no adjustments for the issue with the ploughman's lunch. I will NOT return, and can't recommend this place to anyone.

Extensive beer selection. Hummus was garlicky and had a bit of texture to it - yum! A Very Large Griddled Hot Dog was just that - and tasted just like you thinks a hot dog should taste. Ploughman's Lunch had a number of components - all delicious - perfect for a nibbler like me! House-made sauerkraut and great service rounded out a great lunch.

Nice selection of beer and appetizers. The sandwiches and entrees were kind of creative, but a bit pricey, so I went with 2 small plates to share with my group. Limited vegetarian options. Nice open space- enjoyed the ambience and our server was nice and efficient. She recommended we check out Alewerks after half of us ordered their beers .

  • Jonathan S.

We enjoyed the pub fare and beers. Both the DoG St. Burger and the Salmon burger were delicious. The Salmon burger features a large moist and flavorful slab of salmon, with sauerkraut, fresh melted Swiss, and a complimentary dressing that I found as good for dipping the steak fries as it was for the burger. The fried green tomatoes with greens and goat cheese dressing is a much better choice than the field greens salad, which is just greens and Parmesan. The kids menu is short, but they have all the basics covered. The ambience is undermined by the inescapable presence of multiple large TVs tuned to sports channels (even when there are no sporting events going on).

My wife and I had lunch at Dog Street on a nice sunny day. Natasha took good care of us. My lamb burger was okay but Karen's eggplant sandwich was outstanding. The beer selection is good so we shared a flight and then made our selections. The service was prompt and attentive. Natasha save the day as I left our bag of shopping purchases at the table when we left, but she labeled it and set it aside so we recovered it when we realized our mistake. We'll be glad to visit again.

Eh. Not great. Not horrible. Fish and chips are exactly what you'd expect. Burger not stellar. Service just okay. Surly waitress who ended up being helpful. Locals and we would not go back. Would much rather spend my dollar at Blue Talon or always good Cheese Shop.

Remembered the Dog Street Pub from a fall vacation weekend 2 years ago, but the London Particular split pea soup with corned beef wasn't as delicious as we remembered, or, we shouldn't have had the Dog Street Pub Mix right before....the soup could've get enough salt!!! But the Chesapeake Pale Ale hit the spot! We preferred the bar in the back, less noise and traffic, out bartender was fine but didn't smile once in the hour we were there, probably just a long day! Want to come back for the Sheperd Pie, really made with lamb!

Unfortunately, I arrived only to order off of the Late Night Menu. I ordered the Reuben Croquettes and the Brat Burger both were very good. The bar scene was great as well. I hope to be able to return to explore the full menu!

I'm giving The D.O.G. Street Pub 5 stars because the house burger is the best burger you can get on the peninsula. It's large (but edible), has a lovely slice of back bacon (basically, ham), as well as cheese and all the accouterments of the perfect burger. It comes with "chips," which are really fabulous fries perfectly seasoned, and a side of pub sauce. I dip my fries in the pub sauce, which has a wonderful unexpected "umami" flavor. Even though I have moved outside of Williamsburg, I will be making the trip whenever anyone mentions burgers, because you simply can't do any better. The fish and chips have a great moist interior and crisp exterior, and the portion is more than enough for most. If you get a chance to go on Thursdays, you can get the sliders, which are three different sliders every week. They are fun plays on burgers, with sliders like pulled pork, portobello mushroom, and sausage. The kids menu doesn't sound very exciting, but the hot dog is a huge griddled dog, and the pb&j is made on homemade soft soft bread, and super generous, and my son just loves it. Overall, the food is excellent, the service usually just fine, and the dining room attractive but loud. You probably shouldn't come here for an intimate dinner, but if you're looking for the best burger in town, you're in the right place.

This place would have received 5 stars, however, the wait staff was very overworked and service suffered. The food was exquisite. I had the muscles, fried green tomato, calamari, and lamb burger - all amazing. The bottled beer selection was pleasantly overwhelming and they make a great Moscow Mule. A great place for lunch or dinner.

My husband loved the beer selection and as I don't drink it, I'll take his word. The menu alone is about 4 pages long...of just beer! However, the food was okay. The Pork Bowl was so salty we sent it back and had the item taken off our check. My chicken and cashew pasta was also salty but not so much so I couldn't eat it. The bangers and mash was very good, the burger was very good and the fish and chips were "okay". The fries are steak fries and are soft on the inside, crunchy on the outside. The wait was about 45 minutes, however, they will text you when the table is ready. Just make sure they text the right number; they wrote ours down correctly but texted using the wrong area code. I would try this again and see if the food is less salty. If you are trying to limit your intake of sodium avoid here or talk to your server! It is very loud and we had a hard time hearing our soft-spoken waitress. However, having a conversation wasn't too hard.

Normally this is my favorite restaurant in Williamsburg, but not today. The waitress was not great and was rudely sarcastic. Then the owners wife came with her dog (who was not 100% friendly) and it was like the whole world was there for her. It's sad because I have met the owner and he is awesome. And the food is good. But the wife clearly had the wait staff on edge and they seemed to forget about the customers. It's a shame. Not great customer service and it will make think twice before returning.

Meh. That's really the best description I have for it. Very large selection of beer. Which I'm sure is great. I personally don't drink beer so it didn't matter to me. There were a few cocktails on the drink list as well. I just got a makers and coke. They brought my boyfriend the wrong beer but he declined to change it. The menu did not appeal to me, personally. Typical English pub fare.... But just not my cup of tea (see what I did there?!?! English?? Tea??). This restaurant was not my choice. Had I wanted to drop some dough, I would have gotten the prime rib with Yorkshire pudding. It looked fantastic. I just ended up with a salad. It was fine. They did bring out very yummy bread and butter. Am pretty sure the bread had jalapeños in it - but not overwhelming. However, the waiter failed to bring us plates or silverware for the butter and we didn't see him for several minutes after the bread was dropped. My boyfriend enjoyed his mussels and Reuben rolls. Our friend liked her fish and chips (I had a few fries - they were great!). Side note: the butcher paper under her meal got soggy and ripped immediately so she had to keep picking paper out of her food. Ugh. Our other friend's burger was not fully cooked, so she just ate around the outside (as in it was actually raw, not just rare). VERY noisy. And I am fairly young. Obnoxiously loud, really. Someone PLEASE do something about the chairs/stools scraping on that floor!!! Overall - ambiance not great. Food OK to good. Service poor. I'm sure it could be great with some tweaks but it will stay in business due to location and lots of beer, so who knows if the needed improvements will come. Not awful, but I won't bother going back.

Every time my husband and I come here, one of us always gets the lamb burger. It is seasoned well and the Dog Street Pub does a good job with the tzatziki sauce. Fries are pretty good here too. They have a great beer selection on tap and some rare finds such as mead which one of our waiters implored us to try (very good indeed). My husband has also had the Trecce pasta entree for dinner which is pretty solid. Not to heavy on the sauce and very filling. They have great outdoor seating right on the square, we like to grab a bite to eat here after going to the farmer's market right there in Merchant Square.

Not impressed at all. We had to wait 15 minutes to be seated even though there were several tables open. The decor is drab and cold. It's not very inviting. The "community" table that groups strangers together is not my thing at all. A Pub is supposed to be warm, inviting and fun. It is none of those things. The beer list is 5 times larger than the food menu. The menu is very limited and a little pricey for what it is. I only had drinks and appetizers so I did not try anything big. I had the Calamari and "chips" and they were both very bland and plain. The service was ok, but overall there was nothing about it that would tempt me to go back.

This place has a great tap and bottle list as well as fantastic food! I was in town 4 nights and went here on 3 occasions. It is a great place to learn about and try local craft beer. The staff was friendly and recommended other beer destinations that were spot on. Their sandwiches were delicious! I will return on my next trip!

My daughter and I ate at Dog St Pub the day after it opened. Dog Street Pub describes itself as an "American Gastropub," but the food offerings are more British than American, and are a little limited (especially if you don't like British food!). However, the quality of the food is excellent, including the most flavorful Bangers and Mash I've ever tasted (and I've sampled that dish all over England and Ireland). The fish and chips came with mushy peas (for the unacquainted, mushy peas are supposed to be mushy :) ). The fish was somewhat plain, but I've thought that about the fish for fish and chips just about everywhere. The chips were great. Didn't have any of the dessert. The beer selection, bottled and draught, is huge and excellent. Didn't sample any of the wine offerings. The physical restaurant itself is attractive outside and in. Nice location in newly renovated space. I didn't ask about a kids menu and none was offered to my 10-year-old, suggesting there isn't one. The beer selection clearly targets the adult visitor, but the atmosphere was lively and relaxed enough to feel welcoming to my daughter. Because we visited on the day after it opened for business, I expected the service to have some kinks to work out, but it was smooth. We were seated outside within the time the hosts promised. Wait staff was friendly, attentive, and responsive. In my experience, restaurants in tourist areas can usually get away with poor food and service because they don't rely on repeat customers. Dog Street Pub bucks this trend. Diners will be pleased, so long as they are interested in the somewhat limited items on the menu, and especially if they enjoy good beer.

I absolutely LOVE this place!! My husband and I visited Colonial Williamsburg for vacation in October and came across DoG Street Pub, the place was busy so we knew it had to be good. Dinner was delicious, we ordered fish and chips and a salmon salad, the portions were large (especially the salmon!) and the service was great! The cost of the meal was actually significantly less expensive than that of the taverns in Colonial Williamsburg. We loved it so much we ate here again on our last night in town. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone traveling in the area. Good food is a guarantee, DoG Street Pub does not disappoint and the Sticky Toffee Pudding...Amazing!!!

We were seated in the basement for lunch, so that may be influencing the review. The basement is loud and not very charming. The stone floors echo every little sound. Having said that, there beer menu is impressive and their food is ok. They call themselves a "gastropub", that's over estimating their food a bit. They are just a pub. If you want to go to a pub for good beer, this would be a good choice.

Well first experience.... Three of us went and ordered three sodas one beer sample and three cheese burgers. The sodas are $2.50 a piece and come in cans so no free refills. The beer sample was also $2.50. I was the only one who ordered a burger medium. My burger came out well done, so I sent it back, the next burger came out well done. I talked to the manager he appologized and comped my burger, by the way I posted pictures to show you. The check after my burger was comped was $34.00 which I think is excessive. The service was also very slow, the whole experience took two hours and we got there at 2 pm after the main rush. So another bonifide tourist trap.

This was a crazy delicious find. First off, they have an amazing beer menu. Second, the food is great. I had the Pork In Broth, which was a super awesome Ramen. For dessert, I had the Kentucky Tiramisu which was really bourbony. I will be going back here as soon as I'm back in Williamsburg.

Great burgers and an enormous beer list. And by enormous I seriously mean it! They had so many things! They had multiple kinds of mead! They had mead guys! If you're into beer and want a casual fun place to have dinner this is a great place to go.

Top quality taphouse and pub. Wednesday night in FEB and very busy. Excellent selection of beers -- 4pgs -- and equally good food. The beers are offered in several sizes suitable for tasting or longer enjoyment. Wine list is about one-half page, but adequate. Food has several classic British titles, but done in a modern style, as well as lots of local fare. Portions are very generous. I will definitely be back.

We came here with a host of food allergies and lots of kids, and our waitress (Rachel) took expert care of us. She even brought out the label for one of the items to check the ingredients. Food was great too. We had the salmon salad, lamb burger, brat burger, fish and chips, and other items. Will return.

I ate there yesterday, and did not check out Yelp prior to eating there. The food was absolutely wonderful especially the burgers but I have to agree with the other reviewers the service was less than friendly. We called ahead while on route, 5 min away and were told that we did not have to call ahead that you could be seated immediately, upon arrival we were told that it was a 10 to 20 minute wait. We could gaze across the restaurant see many cleared clean table. The receptionist was apathetic at best and we did not feel like customers were first. We waited 10 minutes to be seated the service was just okay but the food was delicious. Would give 5 stars for food, one for friendliness, esp hostess.

OK... I'll admit - we were back in town a few weeks ago and tried Dog Street Pub again for lunch.. and it was nowhere near as annoyingly disastrous as last time! Dog Street Pub, You've redeemed yourself some by me even though the beers are still expensive and the barstools are still uncomfortable. We stopped in for a quick lunch and ordered the Ploughman's Lunch and the Welsh Rarebit. Both were actually very tasty. The pub was nowhere near as busy as it was during our last visit, so the service was much better. We are planning to be back in town later this year, so who knows, maybe we'll be in again.

We love W'burg and now have a freshman at W&M, so we'll be visiting regularly. Decided to ignore the negative reviews and give DoG St. Pub a shot...so glad we did! DoG burger is one of the best I've had, with a great sauce (similar to Heinz 57), cheddar, soft/chewy roll, "back bacon" that tasted a lot like the delicious Virginia ham you get on biscuits in the historic area, and top-notch fries ("chips"). My wife thoroughly enjoyed her fried cod sandwich with chips and our dining companions were very happy, too. My cousin enjoyed her warm honey ham and cheese sandwich, while her husband polished off an entire "Very Large Griddled Hot Dog" (it was, too!) and commented on how good the hot dog and Guiness chili were. We all appreciate good food, decent service, and a comfortable atmosphere, and DoG Street Pub exceeded our expectations. Well-done!

A new place for us to try. Walking around Colonial Williamsburg we got hungry and wanted to try the DoG Pub for lunch. They have usual lunch fare for a pub. We got fried green tomatoes and I have to say it is the most interesting presentation I have seen. It tasted good but you could not even see the tomatoes which were on the bottom covered by ham arugula and goat cheese and a bit soggy. For lunch I got the DoG burger which was very underwhelming.. I asked for it MW but clearly it is a prepressed patty and it came seriously WD. For $11 I would have expected a burger that was better than the burger I get at a Wendy's. I didn't even want to finish it. I too really wanted to like this place but they need to rethink the food. On a positive note, my wife got the fish and chips and it was good.

Don't stop here expecting good food. The prime rib was not as good as other reviews depicted. Smallest "large" cut I've ever seen. (Go to Fireside Chophouse on Richmond Road for the best prime rib.) The crab crakes had too much filler (red potato) and not enough crab. Chicken Tikka Masala tasted ok, but looked unappetizing. Best thing we had was the calamari. With all the other restaurants, this local will not return. If you want a good beer selection, stop here, good food, steer clear.

This pub is exactly as advertised. better than average bar food, great atmosphere - the main room is nice and open. The highlight was the extensive beer list, and the fantastic service (considering the generic pub expectations). We went for dinner, and they sat us relatively quickly, considering it was a Friday night at 7:30 and we had no reservations. I had the crab rissoles, which were quite good, and a lot of food. My boyfriend got the DoG House Burger and was not disappointed. Their in house "chips" were also quite good. We would return there again, if ever in the area! (especially for lunch)

As visitors to any area, we are always on the lookout for a new, interesting place to eat. As beer lovers, the Dog Street Pub seemed to fit the bill. Truth be told, it seemed that we caught them just as they were opening. The hostess' seating choice seemed unreasonable since the pub was empty, but she willingly moved us to a table that was more to our liking. The Beer Our server was pleasant, however, disappeared for an uncomfortable time period, specifically after we asked to keep the beer menu. We were forced to flag down another server to take our beer order which seemed to cause quite a bit of confusion as to who was supposed to be serving us. The Hair Eventually our food arrived. Upon removal of the bowl of chips from the plate a hair was found on the entree. A quick survey of the floor revealed no servers in sight. This time we were forced to employ the hostess to initiate rectification. Eventually our server apologetically took away the contaminated dish with a promise to return shortly with a new one. In the end, the food was 'ok' - 3 stars.... The Disappointment Following the 'hunt for beer October' and following the 'hair-cident' and the obvious lack give a sh*t from the staff they still charged us full price. The Tip We are typically very generous tippers. While we still tipped the service provided, we were forced to give less than half of what we would normally have given. The Future As new Virginians, we expect to make several trips back to Williamsburg. However, we will make zero return trips to the Dog Street Pub and we will discourage anyone from patronizing this establishment.

We were in Williamsburg when we happened upon the Dog Street Pub. We waited 25 minutes for a table. On a gorgeous day, I was okay with that. The beer selection is excellent however the food was terrible. My friend had the clam chowder and calamari. Calamari was undercooked and tasteless. I had the oyster salad. Oysters were chewy and luke-warm. The apples in the salad were unpleasantly tart. I do not recommend the Dog Street Pub.

Cannot rave about this place enough! We just moved back to Williamsburg after being away for two years and were thrilled when we discovered DoG Street. Everything from the beer/cider selection to the food, is fantastic. Some may consider it a little pricey, but for the quality of the food you're getting, I'd much rather go to DoG Street than some of the other Williamsburg restaurants. If nothing else, you have to order a plate of fries with pub sauce-it's probably my favorite thing on the menu. Everything we've tried has been great and it's become our new go-to spot to take out-of-town guests. A nice, refreshing atmosphere for the colonial section of Williamsburg.

Service was slightly off par. Bar service was slightly off. Some Dishes were off, but the lamb/pork burger and other britsh dishes.

An extensive beer list! Menu is full of descriptions to help guide your selection. Best fish and chips I have ever had. My son swears by the salmon burger and my daughter's pasta was delicious (huge portion). Solid experience for beers and much better than typical pub grub.

Stopped in for a beer and french fries with 6 family members and the fries are delicious and the waitresses were nice and didn't treat us like we were taking up room or anything because we were mostly just chilling and visiting with each other. Pretty cool and dog friendly. Big water bowls outside on the patio and they sell dog biscuits inside.

Best place to eat in CW. Great atmosphere and delicious food. Love the decor. Tap beer and variety of British cuisine.

The beer and wine selection are awesome and so is the food. The food is originial, it's fun to order something new everytime I come. My personal favorite though is the Rail Sandwich. Portions are huge as well that I always have leftovers.

Had dinner here a few nights ago. Amazing! Food was fantastic, service tremendous, and the beer (choices) were unbelievable. If I lived in this area I would go here on a regular basis.

Great location for a pub in Merchant's Square prime for tourists, college kids and even a few locals in a boisterous environment. It pains me to have to give this place two stars for my Yelp rating here, but I would like to give it another try sometime before I make my final proclamation. On the positive, the beer selection is very good focusing on providing interesting variety beers and you have to be a beer snob like myself to appreciate the food menu is one page and when you open it up pages 2 and 3 are all beer! I do wish they would have a bit more local brews particularly more of Richmond's Legends Brewing (love Legends!) on the menu and as luck would have it for me the one they did have on tap was all tapped out, ok first strike. Oh well, I did find a very interesting and tasty stout I had never had before and will have to start seeking it out the next time I'm beer shopping. Second tip, if you're lucky to score patio seating on a comfortable day outside then that seems to be the place to sit and worth waiting a little extra for. Or the bar area seemed like it was nice seating too; however, we were sat in the way back of the place and squeezed in between two other parties, and it was very loud to hear back there so I think next time we'll ask to sit somewhere else if we get guided in that general direction. Food was OK. Not gonna win any best-of awards in this department issues we had aside, but it was satisfying selection of the best-of pub grub. We split the Scotch Egg appetizer, which was OK; not as good as I've had before and was a little peeved it was served with a side of what tasted like Hinez 57 sauce instead of what I'm more familiar with which is a good grainy beer mustard. Main course: I was definitely jealous of my wife's burger as it looked amazing. I got the Fish n' Chips and was stoked to have "mushy peas". Well, again it was folly, my wife found a hair in her burger...I know these things happen but certainly ruins the appetite and my fish wasn't cooked all the way thru and my mushy peas were ho-hum. We told the waitress who was very nice and told the manager and they offered to take care of our appetizer for free which we appreciated. We weren't trying to be mean about it, but definitely were disappointed all around. We love beer and love good beer places, so I hope the next time we come the food and dinning experience comes back around to let me amend my rating!

The food here is out of this world, for the price you cannot get better. I highly recommend going on a Thursday night to get the sliders (Thursday night special). When I went they were; Beef, bacon, caramelized onions and cheddar. Cod (the sauce was incredible but I don't remember what it was). The best of the three was the Mahi Tuna with Aoli sauce. The service was great, the bathrooms were clean and it was overall a great experience. Plus there are a lot of shops neayby.

My second time at DoG and I wasn't disappointed. I've eaten lunch and dinner here, and both were good. Fresh food with an English flair and a pretty amazing beer list. Wait staff is friendly and knowledgeable. There's a bottle shop next door if you want to stock up on any of the local beers you sampled during your meal. If I come back to Williamsburg again, I'll visit DoG Street Pub for sure!

A buddy of mine asked me to pick up a beer menu from Dog Street Pub while I was in Williamsburg as he and his family are planning a visit in the near future, Otherwise, I am not sure that I would have known about it. I stopped in about 8 PM on a very nice Thursday evening. I was actually surprised by the lack of people in the establishment. (I should note that the lack of people was surprising as this establishment is in Market Square.) As a solo dinner, I sat at the bar. The bar is split in two by a column. One half of the bar has two big screen TVs and the other half has nothing. I had not noticed this until after I had sat down and placed my order. If you are a beer connoisseur, this is the place for you. The draft beer and ale menu changes every 1-3 days. The bottled beer menu has about 200 choices, local, national, and international. The menu is typical pub/bar food, with some fusion between British and American traditional choices. I ordered the fried green tomatoes (with argula, goat cheese, and back bacon). It was flavorful and almost enough for two as a small plate. But the two slices of fired green tomatoes were just luke warm and the crust was a little soggy. I then ordered a Dog Street Pub burger - Angus beef and back bacon, as well as the normal fixings. It was delivered with "chips". The burger was cooked exactly to order and both the burger and chips were flavorful. The service was attentive. As an aside, even though it was not busy when I was there, I would surmise that if you wanted to go to a place that offered some privacy for quiet conversation, this would NOT be the place. The tables are placed very close together.

This was in the top three worst restaurant experiences of my life. The waiter made us wait about a half hour for our drinks because he said they had to go downstairs to get them. Finally we get our drinks. Then he serves all of us our food except for one person, and he tells us her food is not done yet. It came out about 10 minutes later, while the rest of our food got cold. None of the meat was seasoned, and my sandwich was the most bizarre sandwich I have ever seen put together, with six pieces of bread. When we gave him the money for our bill, it took him about 20 minutes to come back with our change, and he shorted us a nickel because he said he didn't have one. Horrible, pass this place if ever given the chance!

Recommend the Dog Street Burger, Salmon Burger, or fried egg plant sandwich. If a dish has the name of the restaurant on it, I assume that the owner is proud of the dish. Also the hot chocolate is delicious but small. If you like meat, this place is for you.

Four stars for the fabulous food. Our bartender didn't seem to like his job. We waited too long for drinks. Wasn't crowded and instead of him asking if I wanted another I had to ask. He even passed by a few times and we tried to stop him for refills and the check, he kept walking by, he was "too busy" to put our appetizer order in. The food came out fast and was plenty so the forgotten appetizer was a good thing. The metal chairs sliding across the tiled floors is ear wrenching, I suggest some padded felt on the bottom of the feet. Casual hangout with friends or family.

We went on a Friday night, after 8:30, with family of 5. At first they told us it would be a 45 minute wait. Then, miraculously, we had a table in 15 minutes. They brought us downstairs where there was an obviously large party 12 adults and 4 kids taking up the entire middle of the room. There were three other tables to the side with other customers. All these people and one waitress. That should have been the hint to move to another restaurant. We stuck it out and faced a frazzled waitress who forgot our drinks, forgot we were there and never brought our bill. We had to request a busboy to bring us the bill, only to be told "she will be with you in 5 minutes, she is separating the large parties bill". Meanwhile, the 4 juvenile delinquents are throwing food at each other at the table, running around the floor and the parents, definately may/December relationship, are bringing their wine glasses and periodically going outside for a smoke. The tatted manager came to us and said "can you check your bill to make sure it's accurate?". "oh and we are sorry.". The food was not worth it. The calamari was chewy and the batter pretty low quality with no taste. The fish and chips were frozen, not fresh. The kids burger was a 1/2 frozen patty. Crab Risolles was mostly potatoe, hardly any crab. Airline chicken was frozen, not fresh chicken breast. Drinks were good. I would say stay away and go to Retros around the corner.

Excellent beer selection and great atmosphere. The service was prompt and they took great care to attend our needs. The food was good tavern fare and did not disappoint. We had the fish and chip which was well thought out and very tasty. The "chips" were crunchy and tasty and the fish was not over fried or greasy. Also, if it is crowded, they will text you when your table is ready so you can explore other surrounding shops. All in all a great place and well worthy of a visit.

My wife and i were passing through to visit Colonial Williamsburg and stopped into the Dog Street Pub to escape the July heat and have a cold brew. It was nice to find a good selection of local fresh ales and other beers available and the atmosphere was nice too. There are big-screen TV's for those who like to have something to watch while they enjoy a beverage. We had a cheese platter of some very good local cheeses and a bowl of their house bar mix of nuts (complimentary) which had a nice mix of spiced and candied nuts. All in all, a nice place I would visit again.

Best beer selection I've ever seen - quality beers and unique selections. Dont get anything local, not with so many interesting imports on the list. Excellent food, a little pricey but worth it (went for lunch). Service was slow, but we weren't in a rush so it was fine. Ambiance fits the historic Williamsburg area, though was a bit fancy for a "pub" in my opinion.

As a local and frequent visitor of the UK I looked forwarded to the opening of this establishment for months. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint! Not only was the staff friendly and attentive, the food was extraordinary! To start, we ordered the cheese plate and the Mulligatawny soup. This soup is prefect for a winter lunch in Merchant's Square. Its hearty and filling and at only $5 a great price too! For our entrees I ate the fish and chips which was breaded perfectly (light and crisp) and was from a high quality cod. My date had the sauteed chicken and brussel sprouts which he couldn't get enough of! The chicken was tender, juicy and well seasoned. Although there was more than enough food we both cleaned our plate/basket. For dessert we tried the Eton Mess. It was quite refreshing and we both enjoyed it. I also quite enjoyed the decor. As someone who grew up in the town of Williamsburg I remember the old bank building that the Pub now occupies. I loved the details that the owners kept from the original space, such as the rod iron gates that separated the public from the private area of the bank, and the original skylight and cupola. Its quite obvious that a lot of effort has been put into the beer list, as it is extensive. The selections run the gamut of accessible, reasonably priced choices to something for the seasoned beer connoisseur to try and enjoy for the first time. Also, I admire how the Chef blended traditional English favorites with some of the newer flavors of Great Britain, introduced by immigrating cultures. Since this first experience, I have been back several times and have had a consistently great experience whether it be for dinner or just drinks. This is a great new spot for the young professional crowd to have a little bit of nightlife in Williamsburg, as well!

We live in Williamsburg and were very excited to try this new pub. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. The service is pretty terrible. Our waitress on numerous occasions disappeared for long, long periods of time. I was brought a warm beer that sat on our table for quite some time. Eventually, I was able to send it back but it was well at the end of our meal and there was clearly no point in ordering another. Also, my daughter ordered a cheeseburger, she likes it plain.. just a burger with cheese only. It literally arrived with every topping (lettuce, onions, etc) and no cheese. The waitress never returned with an obligatory "is everything ok?" so we all sat for a long period of time, again, as our meal got cold. Very, very disappointing.

Huge beer selection! And when we were in there the special was 1/2 price 1/2 pints - definitely a much better deal than it appears at first. Cool upscale pub atmosphere and the food was great. We ordered the Chicken and Dumplings and the Pork in Broth - the Pork in Broth was soooo good! It's a noodle bowl with tender pork and topped with a poached egg. We will definitely be going back for more and to work our way through the beer list!

if you like British fare (i.e. food with no flavor or seasoning), you'll love it here! My friends and I were very excited to eat here, as all of the food looked amazing. But when we actually ate the food it was very disappointing. Review of the dishes we had: (1) Deviled eggs: the filling was crusted over and it had clearly been sitting in the fridge, as the eggs had an odd flavor to them that was clearly from fridge cross-flavoring (2) Potted Crab: thought this was a creamy crab dip but it is literally just crab in a pot. and that crab tasted like the can it was taken out of. (3) English Banger Sausage Sandwich: literally had NO TASTE! making sausage is more than just grinding meat into a casing. You need to actually put seasonings into the meat. (4) Hamburgers: must have been made with very poor quality meat as the patties were grissly. these also lacked flavor. Final thought: don't advertise yourself as a place that serves food "without pretension" and then go and describe the taste of sprite in detail.

We came here for my birthday dinner, just my fiance and I. It was very enjoyable. We were staying across the Jamestown River at Chippokes Plantation and wanted to venture out to find a new experience to add to our vacation. While out shopping for my first Kate Spade bag the woman helping me recommended this as the best in town. Needless to say it did not disappoint. We actually missed the ferry on the way there and had to take the scenic route. We were worried most places would be closing soon...seemed meant to be when we turned the corner and heard the laughter! The pub sauce is to die for, we ordered a side of "chips" just to be able to dip some more. My fiance had the Dog Street Burger which he loved - we consider ourselves total foodies (he is a chef). I had the Crab Rissole, I love crab cakes so thought this would be neat to try. It was a crab cake with diced red potatoes also in the mix. Delightful. We can't wait to venture down again soon!

Loved this place!! I took my daughter here when we vacationed in Williamsburg. We had an hour before a ghost tour we'd booked and mentioned our time constraint to the waitress, she assured us we had plenty of time and she was right. We had the deviled eggs appetizer to start. The eggs themselves were good deviled eggs but nothing special, the bacon garnish, however, was amazing and gave the dish something extra. It came on an arugula salad that was pretty yummy. My daughter got the kid's fish and chips and it was a gorgeous plate. The fish was a quality cut of flaky and tender fish in a really nice batter and the fries were the epitome of perfection. Soft on the inside and crisp on the outside. Big fries, too, really likes their fries. I got the shepherds pie and it was amazing. They make it with ground lamb and the whole thing is just comforting and well prepared and spiced. Delicious. The meal was affordable prices, atmosphere was pleasant, staff was friendly and accommodating, and food was excellent. If come here again in a heartbeat.

What Great find!!!! First.....The beer selection is unbelievable! I never saw so many different types of beers. You walk into their open room bar. There is dining in the bar and in the back dining room. There is also dining in the lower room as well. The atmosphere is casual and there are plenty of tv's too. The food was extremely delicious, plentiful and prepared with care. I had the lamb burger...yummy and juicy! We also ordered the eggplant sandwiches which were also outstanding. We also ordered the cheeseburger as well.....juicy and delicious and the special mayo that out came with was great! I am so excited about the Dog Street pub. We have been coming here for 15 years and this is our first time here...and well be back many times in the future!!! This Is a must stop, right in merchants square in Colonial Williamsburg!

Food was really good but the wait staff wasn't very welcoming. Not that I want a welcoming committee or a song and dance but there was no introduction or anything just a "what do you need?" From the bartender. I had the Dog Street burger and it was really juicy and tasted really good. The fries were crispy and whatever dipping sauce they gave me was fantastic I just wish there was a little more. Also they served my beer in a wine glass half full which is kinda weird because it's wasn't anything special just some Belgian beer. I wouldn't recommend this place. It might add to the story that I showed up an hour before closing but that seems like adequate time for them to not feel so rushed an unwelcoming so I don't understand...

Although I have been to this restaurant a few times, this is my first review. Every dish I have had here is very good. This time we had the Trecce Pasta and Brick Chicken. The pasta is homemade and every component of this dish is good (see pic). The chicken was well seasoned and juicy and all sides well executed. The pub is nicely decorated and the atmosphere is inviting. Dessert was awesome (sticky toffee pudding), a must try.

4 stars ONLY because it was REALLY noisy. With a hard floor, windows on one wall, mirrors on the other, and a tin ceiling, it was noisy. No band, but just a lot of conversation. The food and the service was 5 star. My wife had the salmon burger, and I had fish & chips. I prefer a tempura batter, and this was English style, but the fish was PERFECT. Chips were good. My wife raved about the salmon burger. I sampled hers, and have to agree. We almost missed this place. There was a HUGE crowd out front, and we did not feel like waiting, but I decided to go in and find out how long the wait would be. None! Turns out the crowd was there to go running. It seemed to be a regular run sponsored by the pub. So, although there were plenty of people standing around, they weren't customers. Seems to be a Monday night regular thing, so don't let them discourage you from going in.

Visiting Williamsburg for the second day. Having lunch and some Cold beer at the Dog Street Pub. Very diverse menu, HUGE beer and wine menu. We had Drew as our server and he told us right from the start we were going to have the best lunch and the most outstanding service we have had yet. He was right! The Epic Anniversary RV Adventure

I went here last week with my brother and his girlfriend for the first time ever, and I was sorely disappointed. First, our waiter (who looked like he was retired, and but forced back into the workforce) was awful, and I'm surprised we got any food at all. Next, I placed an order, and was told 10 mins later that they were out of what I ordered. After checking the menu again, I ordered the chicken. When I got it, it was bone dry!!!! When the waiter came and checked on us, he ultimately got the manager, and she explained that the chicken breasts are pre-cooked. She did offer to give me another one cooked fresh, that she would "take care of it," and she would also comp a dessert. When we got the checks, we noticed two things. It was't taken care of as the manager had stated, as I was still charged the full price for my meal and we were charged for the dessert too. I don't see this as the proper way to insure that a customer will return.

We wandered in here as we strolled this darling area and we hit the jackpot! The fried green tomatoes are worth driving here for! Topped with bacon, goat cheese, greens and an amazing sauce, these are heaven on a plate. We also loved the sublime fish and chips! Authentic, fresh & flakey served with gigantic fries. They have an entire menu of ales. We enjoyed the cider which goes beautifully with the fish and chips.

Updating review. Went back for a Saturday lunch. Much better service. Much clearer layout on the draft beer sheet. Had the Rail Sandwich this time 'round. It was awesome - plenty of pulled pork with crunchy onion, spicy Dijon mustard, and slabs of dill pickle between crispy, crunchy buttered and grilled sourdough bread. I get the feeling this is a better lunch/late-lunch or late-night snack and a beer place than a dinner venue. From this point onward, I will plan accordingly.

Very cool decor with a diverse menu. 3 of us got the burger with the Virginia ham and vidalia onions. Another got the bangers and mash. The burgers were delicious and fresh. The mussel appetizer was very good and the serving was plenty for two of us. Bacon, garlic, thyme and fresh bread were key elements of the mussels and it was done very nicely. The beer selection was solid and broken down to a good selection of regional specialties and some colonial-era choices as well. Nice spot, not inexpensive, but you are in the middle of Williamsburg. Don't forget to check out their bottle shop behind the restaurant. Great selection

Dog Street Pub is a good option if you are in Colonial Williamsburg. They have a great beer selection, cool atmosphere, and good bar food. I have been here twice now and both experiences were fairly similar. This place seems to always be packed, which is just kind of the deal on Dog Street. The food was good both times but the service is lackluster and slow. The food is very good. I swear the best thing about this place is their dipping sauces. I know it sounds strange, but I would definitely recommend getting the pub sauce and also their take on a chipotle mayo. Both are great on the burgers and for dipping the fries. I got the Dog Street Burger. It has ham on top of it, which I had tried before and it is a good take on it. This is a very good burger. Something a little bit different. We also tried the "Very Large Griddled Hot Dog." They are not lying. This thing is huge and could definitely be shared. It came smothered in chili, and topped with cheese and onions. The chili is very thick and meaty. Almost like a chili that you would eat with a spoon in a bowl. Very good though. I think the dog is all beef and it is seriously filling. Their fries are good and crispy and once again a great excuse to eat some more of the specialty sauces. The beer selection here is very good. They have rotating drafts and offer seasonals on tap. They also have a good selection of bottles including options from local breweries such as Alewerks. It's always nice when local restaurants support the local breweries. The atmosphere is nice. When you first walk in it is very open with high ceilings and checkered floors. They have a nice classy bar setup and some seating towards the front. They have a back room area and a basement that has more seating. They also have a patio out front which would be nice to have a drink on a warm night and watch all of the William and Mary Students traverse Dog Street. As mentioned before, the service here is not great. I've had experiences with rude hostesses and long waits for food. The servers never seem to be apologetic about it and seem to just be disinterested overall. That's definitely the downfall of this place. Dog Place is a nice gastropub with a good beer selection, good pub food, and a nice atmosphere. If you can excuse the occasional rude service and long waits, it is worth trying out if you are in Colonial Williamsburg.

This is a neat spot in the heart of Williamsburg that I had high hopes for. My family and I stopped in here while visiting the farmers market and showing around some family from out of town. It was pretty crowded but they seated us quickly. The service was great but the food was definitely lacking. My husband ordered the Rueben and said it was just ok. I chose the tuna wrap, big mistake. I was thinking chunks of blackened tuna, but no, it was pretty much just tuna out of a can. So gross. I guess I should have read the menu better, it does say "shredded". Both meals were served with potato chips, like Lays...I'm always disappointed when a restaurant doesn't get more creative with their sides. How lazy is it just to serve chips? The one up side to Dog Street Pub is their beer menu. The prices definitely aren't the cheapest but they have quite an extensive list of beers. It was perfect for a hot day and pretty much the only saving grace. There are too many other great restaurants in the area for us to come back.

First, it's a charming restaurant in a charming area. It's in the heart of Colonial Williamsburg in an 80 year old building (it looks much older than it is) that used to be a bank. I was immediately taken by the light fixtures, the mismatched chairs, and the large windows. We're apparently old, and arrived early enough that we didn't have to wait for a table. We got a cute table next to a window (yay for good lighting) and looked over the menu. Their food menu is honestly pretty bare bones. Of the four page menu, food was just the first page. The next two pages were nothing but beer, and the fourth was sodas, wine & a small selection of cocktails. Since the soda was served in cans (and $2.25 for a non-refillable 12 oz can... no thank you) and none of the cocktails jumped out at me, I stuck with water. Graham had plenty of beers to choose from and chose the sampler, which was three 5 oz. tastings for $5. Once she came back with his beer, we ordered the Kalamata tapenade to start. This was absolutely delicious, and after one bite Graham told me that we needed to recreate this at home. The crostini were crispy and the perfect delivery vessel for the tapenade. Once we finished them, we still had half of the tapenade left. I refused to leave it behind, so she boxed it up for us, and threw in some more crostini. I just wish the had boxed up all of the tapenade. Since the menu was small (not a problem, because everything sounded good), it didn't take long to order. G went with the roasted prime rib (with Yorkshire pudding, beef jus, horseradish sauce, roasted potatoes and carrots). They offer two sizes and he got the smaller one (13 oz.). It was served with roasted carrots & potatoes. This smaller portion was HUGE. When they brought it out, I couldn't believe that it was the small portion. They definitely skimped on the vegetables though. There were maybe 5-6 small pieces of carrot and potato. He said they were delicious, just not enough of them. The prime rib was good, but nothing spectacular. It had quite a bit of fat on it, and needed more salt. I ordered the brick chicken (brick pressed herb basted double boneless breast with mashed potatoes and bacon Brussels sprouts), which was absolutely delicious, even though I don't think it was cooked under a brick. Chicken under a brick usually creates chicken with extra crispy skin. The skin on this chicken was not crispy, and it didn't have the coloring you usually end up with. But still. It was delicious. It had excellent flavor and was incredibly moist. The side dishes were pretty good. The potatoes weren't creamy enough and needed salt. The Brussels sprouts were delicious, and the roasted cherry tomatoes mixed in were a nice surprise. So, the food was good. The restaurant was charming. The main flaw with our dining was our server. She was inattentive. G ordered a full sized beer after he finished his flight, and It took her 15 minutes to bring it to him. She stopped by once after he ordered it and she said it was waiting at the bar. Um... maybe you should go get it? When she brought it (about 5 minutes later), it was the wrong one. After she delivered our check, we put our card in, stood it up so she would see it, and it took her another 10 minutes to come get it. Even though she was just cleaning & resetting a table two feet away. The other flaw was flies. They were everywhere, and it was super annoying. I'm sure it was because we were sitting very close to the door, and it was constantly opening and closing, but it was still really, really annoying. All in all, it was a good experience. We'll definitely be back. Just next time I'd like a better server and less flies.

The atmosphere is immediately lovely. A really unique set-up that I describe as a 20's speakeasy combined with the colonial aspect of Williamsburg. And it works. The colors and crown molding and chandeliers are just divine. They do fill up pretty quickly, which is a testament to their food and ambience. The bar is just gorgeous. Just make sure you get a reservation. As for the food, it was just great. The curry soup is outstanding - the addition of apples is unexpected and absolutely delicious. The pork in broth was very very good, and their signature burger is wonderful. The wait staff is alright - nothing to brag about, unfortunately. I wish it had been better. Not every entree is a hit (the crab and potato cakes lacked some flavor and were a bit bland), but overall it's a great experience and most of the food is so worth it. I will definitely keep going there.

We love this place sever times and love everything we've had on the menu. This includes the Indian dishes which are all amazing, great beers and really excellent appetizers - love the hummus. We've even been to a wedding there - that place can cater an amazing meal! Love that the pub has settled in and become a mainstay.

Pros: Good atmosphere, fast service, and fantastic beer selection. It is a convenient place to eat while in merchant square. My boyfriend enjoyed his Dog Street burger and fries. Cons: I ordered the fried green tomatoes after seeing several good reviews on them. Absolutely horrible. Cold, barely cooked, and flavorless. The menu was also too overpriced for the quality of food.

If a restaurant can't even do fish & chips, or shepard's pie correctly, it has no right to call itself a British Pub-type restaurant. I was more than disappointed. Hardly anyone in the dining room while we were there but we had quite a long wait for our entries. Then when they finally arrived, the fish & chips were too greasy (oil had obviously not been hot enough) and my so called "shepard's pie" was almost recognizable as such--5 little bits of meat with too gravy that dissolved the piped mashed potatoes on top of it into an unattractive state of mush. When I complained to the waiter, he looked embarrassed, said he was sorry--and walked away. I had to wonder if this was his first week ever being a waiter. No offer to replace the entrees or take them off the bill.

DoG is okay. It's been in this location for a few years now, but step inside and it seems to look like a pub from Britain in the 1970s and the service was a bit slow. That said, they had awesome fish n' chips and a great selection of beers. The one way it could have been better, is if the hostess had a more organized system for knowing which tables were open versus weren't. The hostess checked the entire restaurant, before letting us know it would be about 20-25 minutes before we had a table. It also would have been good if she had offered us seats at the large communal table in the bar area while we waited. Good food, great beer selection, average service.

Dog Street Pub was a delight until we got to our waitress. The wait was supposed to be 45 minutes so we went to the bar and had a couple of drinks. After about 30 minutes our cell phone buzzed and we were seated at our table. We all ordered hamburgers and I despise raw onions. There is something that just makes my taste buds SCREAM when it comes to raw onions. I asked the waitress for no raw onions on my hamburger and her response was 'The kitchen won't even listen to me so I'm not even going to tell them." Um, excuse me? I was very unhappy with her response. Who would say that to a paying customer? I've had better service at a food truck than at this restaurant. We also had to ask multiple times for silverware, refills on our ice tea etc. The table next to us (who had the same waitress) also ordered hamburgers and they were given ketchup, mayo , and mustard - where we had to ask for the condiments. The hamburger was ok, the fries and malt vinegar was delicious. Overall - don't ask for anything special with your meal because the wait staff does not care.

Holy Mary Stuart Masterson, Batman! The Fried Green Tomatoes were to die for! Also, I don't care what is really in Black Pudding, because I will devour anything that tastes like this. Did I mention the 4 local IPA's on draft? I tried The Great Return brewed in Richmond, and while I still prefer Racer 5, it was right up there. This classy pub would fit right in larger metro areas like London, Dublin, or Edinburgh no problem. Great job!

Good food and amazing beer menu. We stumbled upon this place after visiting the colonial. Nice decor and acceptable service. Only problem is that the food is a bit overpriced for the portion I got. But overall a good place to grab a beer and have a good meal.

Love the name! One starts to feel a bit pummeled by the Colonial theme in Williamsburg. OK, we get it! DOG street manages to bypass that. We didn't try any beer, but our food was great! My salad was fresh, despite the time of year. My two companions had the brat burger, and they were stoked by how good they were. The fries were great- I managed to sneak one! Our server was great. I imagine this place is pretty busy in better weather.

A very lovely atmosphere (I sat outside with the EXTENSIVE beer list and ordered a couple Magners- it's nice to see all of the imports at a pub.) Right in the center of colonial Williamsburg, I would recommend sitting outside for people-watching and really feeling like you're part of the scenery. I came right before dinner, so the menu was very limited, but ordered the Brat burger which, well- tasted like a pretty typical bratwurst in burger form, nothing special. The fries were very crispy and flavorful, though, and I can never turn down somewhere where I can load up my "chips" with malt vinegar. The wait staff was very attentive and friendly, though I wish someone had told me they still had fish n' chips at the off-hour, because that's what I was really craving. I would be back, ultimately, if I were ever in Williamsburg- the burger was pretty heavy and dense, and pretty big, but had a nice flavor and the bun was delicious. Classic pub fare with live entertainment via watching tourists. A good time, all around! I was very relaxed and content with my experience.

Not sure what everyone is talking about, the service is great, the food is great, the atmosphere is beyond great and the beer selection is fantastic, if you are in the area you really need to stop in here.

Food was decent my pasta was delicious but my wife's chicken was extremely dry ... So dry in fact that she couldnt eat more than two bites , she ate everything else just not her main dish . we drank beer flights which were excellent and my wife had mead for the first time and loved it . the prices were ok but the portions were on the small side but still very good for a pub .

Came here on a rainy Sunday afternoon when the line at Kings Arms was too long and after eating at both, I'm glad we stopped here! The service was good; we were seated and served quickly. I had the hot dog and a porter beer. As noted in other reviews, the beer selection is great, but I was sad to see they were mostly bottles and not drafts. I still really enjoyed my beer, so much that we visited Alewerks on our trip. Food was also very good but it seemed like a random menu to me. I'll definitely be back on any future trips, and would recommend this over the other restaurants we tried in the area!

Service: Just OK. Our server was very nice, however, she wasnt around much. Food: 3/5 stars. The fries were fresh and tasted great! However, my tuna sandwich did not have enough cucumbers in it. The olive spread was layered on a bit too thick and was overwhelming. Their tirimisu was extremely disappointing. I understand that these things are pre-made. However, the ladyfinger that was supposed to be marinated in burbon (?) instead of the expresso left them DRY. They should have let the tirmisu sit out at room temp instead of serving it right out of the fridge. It tasted dry and i left most of my dessert untouched ( it was not worth the calories) and tasted NOTHING like tirimisu. Decor: Like a classic pub. Ample outdoor seating, dog friendly, nice bar area and the dining area is dimly lit and classic. They seem to have a ton of beer on tap. Their alcohol takes up most of the menu. Id return probably for a drink if i am in the area.

Second time eating here, second time disappointed. Bottle selection is impressive. Draft selection is average for this day and age. Food is such a let down, my wife's burger was grossly undercooked again! I had the corned beef sandwich. It tasted ok but was seriously lacking in meat.

The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating. On the inside, there are two floors - the main floor is mostly bar seating with some table seating and the lower floor has tables and chairs for parties of 4 or 6's. The restaurant is well lit. The tables look like wood but it's actually marble. The chair at each table are wood and unique in style. The water tasted strange. They have nice selection of beers, ciders, and wines. We ordered a sampler including Bells Lager of the Lakes, Green Flash Hop Odyssey Citra Sessions, Alewerks Dear Old Mum, and Jack's Hard Cider. The service was slow. (Don't come here if you are pressed for time.) There's also flies in the restaurant. The bread was cold but loved the whipped sweet cream. The steamed mussels were small and lean. It would have tasted better in a creamy, white wine sauce than a bacony beef broth. We enjoyed our entrees - the Prime Rib, the Brick Chicken, and Tortiglioni Pasta (which reminded me of vodka cream sauce with chunky tomatoes).

We enjoyed 2 meals here. Lunch out front on the patio was made delightful by umbrella shade and great beer (ginger beer for me!). Fried green tomato appetizer was good enough to eat twice, and so were the salmon burgers. The cheese board was nice for lunch, and the asparagus pasta was so filling I took half home. I tried my first Spotted Dick dessert, and I am hooked! A couple of Brits at lunch were very entertaining, but a couple of "ugly Americans" at dinner made us sad. Never order Coors light at an authentic British pub!

For a sleepy college town, / retirement community I really enjoyed this place. They have an extensive beer list from all over, Oregon through colorado to local Brewers. They offer no in site brewing but they have a great common table I. The middle of the pub. It's located at the end of Gloucester St. With some great food options. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting, like me and this place is popular with locals as well.

Love DoG pub! We've yet to sit at a table but our experiences at the bar have been great. We've visited three times. Beers are pricey as can be imagined for the tourist area, but they have an amazing beer selection. The food was great. We had the burger and fish and chips today and the quality was excellent. Bar staff is not very friendly but with the transient tourist crowd I can see why. Will continue to come back!

I love Williamsburg and have been here many times without trying this place. It had so many good reviews and a nice beer selection so my sibs and I tried it out. We had a 10 min wait which wasn't bad. They had free wifi and plenty of televisions to check out. Their had a large beer menu of locals and imports. Our table had chili, burgers, and a corned beef brisket. Pretty much the only complaint was that the chili does not include crackers. The corned beef brisket came with a horseradish mustard type sauce that was amazing even on the burgers. My family splits all of the food with each other. They gave us crayons and a coloring sheet for my neice. Her dad ended up drawing all over the sheet and loved the crayons. Convenient and delicious. Didn't try the pub sauce for whatever reason.

During a rainstorm, trolling for a restaurant in the Merchant Square area of Williamsburg, we got stuck inside the Dog Street Pub once we came in to look at a menu. We put our name on a waiting list, just in case and ended up staying because it was too rainy to leave. What. A. Lucky. Break. The wait was about a half of an hour, but many other tourists like ourselves must have had the same idea and the place was crowded. Our waitress was superb. When our #1 vegetarian daughter balked about the menu, she explained that the bacon could be left off a dish, and that it would be great. She really inspired our daughter to branch out and try something new. Without our even having to ask, the waitress brought out our younger daughter's pasta before the rest of the food was served, which was a LIFESAVER! We ordered appetizers including the cheese board, the hummus, and the Welsh rarebit. The cheese board was good, the hummus was tasty, and I got to eat the Welsh rarebit myself, but it was really yummy. I wish the "croutons" that came with the hummus and the cheese board were more than just really-really-really hard slices or baguette, but that's a minor issue. Hubby and I had chicken tikka masala and we both enjoyed it. We saved room for dessert, and based on the waitress's suggestion again, my older daughter had the chocolate cake, which she described as perfect after the first mouthful. Younger kid had the ice cream with the dog-bone shaped cookie. Hubby and I had cheesecake which was different from a traditional NY style cheese cake but still really good. Nice beer selection, too.

Ie been here a few times and I've never had a bad experience. The wait staff can sometimes be a little inexperienced but the food is ways just fantastic. During my most recent visit I had the fish ad chips for dinner and it was magnificent. The selection of beers changes seasonally so that is always fun to see what's new. I would recommend Dog Street Pub to anyone who comes to the CW.

We love this place! It's a must stop in Williamsburg. It's in a perfect location to walk around before dinner and check out all the cute shops and there is sometimes live music. We always sit at the bar so we never wait. The grapefruit beer is amazing!!! The burger is great and comes with "chips" aka fries that are delicious. My husband gets the spicy pasta and loves it. Great service, great environment

Good food, good beer... what more can you want. Onky thing keeping it from 5 stars was a little additude from the check in desk when we asked for a dinner menu at 4:45. They don't serve dinner until 5 and 15 minutes appeared to be a big deal to these girls...

Great selection of beer on tap. Food is fine, nothing special. Calamari fries were way too salty. Fish and chip batter lacked seasonings by contrast. I would come for the beer rather than the food.

Walked in on a Thur night at 7pm. 30 min wait for table but hostess takes your cell and texts you when table ready. We were able to visit nearby shops while waiting. Why so crowded? Great food and atmosphere. A very popular place due to food and drink. I ordered the brat burger. It was great. Also had a local craft beer: Drake Tail IPA. Wife ordered crab cakes & asparagus with house merlot. Hers was equally good. Our server, Jacob, was very knowledgable about the menu and attentive while covering numerous tables. We are visiting from Midwest and would return when in town again.

I would love to give a review about the food, but unfortunately, our server dropped (literally) water off at our table and walked away. We waited for 15 minutes and decided to go eat somewhere else. Horrible service. The menu looked good and interesting though.

Stopped in for late lunch. Both women at the hostess station were less than friendly, though the wait staff was pretty ok. Really, this is a gastropub in name only. We tried the fried green tomatoes and they were ghastly. The batter alone would have led me to believe that they came out of the freezer, but the huge slices of tomato were fresh. And like rocks. Yes, it's supposed to be green tomato...and they are supposed to be cooked. These weren't even warm. Spouse and daughter each had a grilled cheese sandwich; I had the burger. Food was plentiful but completely unremarkable. We were worried after the tomatoes, but our lunch was edible if totally generic. The daughter did give a happy thumbs up to the brown sauce.

Michaela was our server and she was fantastic; especially concerning our special circumstances which consisted of many 10-11 year old boys. The adults appreciated the courtesy of the bartenders. The location, within William and Mary College, made a beautiful setting four our large group from out of town.

Not too bad. The chef seems to be afraid to use seasoning though. I ordered the fish sandwich and the cod was seasoned with batter. That's all. Not seasoning whatsoever. My mother's corned beef sandwich was so tasteless my husband apologized for feeding it to her (she's disabled). My husband's pork sandwich special was only semi-good as he said, "the pork was seasoned so well, but the sauce they drenched it was cloyingly sweet and messed up the party" Overall the place was so-so.

If you are looking for classic English fare, you found it. The fish and chips are awesome and enough to feed a couple. The appetizers are amazing. The beers are all a great selection. Its housed right downtown on DOG street in an old bank. Its a great casual site to bring the family.

When I went here I was so hungry from walking all day. I asked a local for their recommendation. The waitress brought me a jug of water and came to check on me often. I ordered a hamburger that came with a slice of grilled ham on it. It was really juicy and fresh tasting. The fries were excellent and crispy. I was in heaven.

Great location but marginal food. Water tasted like moldy. You wonder how clean they can actually get their water jugs. Pea soup was ok. Mussels were over powered with the white wine taste in the broth.

We went on a Friday afternoon while visiting Williamsburg during spring break (the week before Easter), and it was cloudy and a little drizzly. We had to wait over a half-hour for a table, and when we were seated, we were told that if we wanted the full lunch menu, we had to order quickly because the kitchen closed to prep for dinner at 4 (it was 3:50). The beer selection was excellent, and reasonably priced. We all got items off the "all-day" section of the menu (which included things like burgers, fish and chips, sandos, etc), and the food was good. The only thing that kept us from a better review- the service was terrible. We clearly didn't have a designated server, because several of them would approach our table to check on us and take our orders, sometimes one after the other, sometimes in huge intervals. Once we finished, one server took our check, and we didn't see it (or our credit card) for about 20 minutes. That is unacceptable to keep a customers credit card away from them for 20 MINUTES! This place has lost our trust, let alone our business. Other than the beer selection, this place is nothing special.

The food here is awesome. So why only 4 stars? Well, even though they have quite a large beer selection, their draught selection is rather small. I am an IPA person, so they hardly have IPA on tap. But as a local, I take this place for granted. Check it out, you won't regret it.

Tried taking a group here for lunch recently but changed my mind after the overly-tanned hostess made a condescending remark. Took my business elsewhere. That's the second time I've encountered unprofessional staff at the door. Pity, because the menu is interesting. I

I really don't have anything against this place, and maybe i was just having a bad day when i visited (i was). However i was not overly impressed with anything especially for the price we paid for it. The food options are standard tavern foods with a decent range of other options too. Lots of beer options available and we did have some good beers while there. Looking back on it though, i cant see anything that really makes this place stand out over any other restaurant in the area or region.

What a pleasure! I walked from the theater on the William and Mary campus down to Merchant Square after watching a Shakespeare performance and, finding myself parched upon arrival, walked into this bar after I saw about 30 young people leaving the place. Even so, there weren't many seats at the bar, but I found an empty space and settled int to cool off and relax. Great draft beer selections--all microbrews. No music, just the ambient sounds of conversation and crockery. And excellent service. These bartenders know what they are doing and are attentive but not intrusive. I love the half pint option--it's a great way to try a variety of different beers, and a smaller "taste" option is also available. The spicy bar peanuts were tasty, but the bowl needed refilling and tending. Scheduled to dine with friends, I couldn't eat much, but I wanted something to eat and ordered the deviled eggs which were delicious.

Came close to five stars. Great ambience. Great selection of craft beer. Half price on half pint was great. This allowed you to try different draft craft brews without breaking your wallet. The food was great and average. I had the small plate Cioppino Chowder thinking it was an appetizer but was I wrong. It could be a meal in itself. I would imagine the full plate size of this dish would be huge. The chowder was excellent and I highly recommend it. The average was the fish-n-chips. Nothing really special and was kind of bland tasting. I was in Williamsburg for business travel on a Tuesday by myself. It wasn't crowded. Being by myself I sat at the bar. The bartenders were nice and attentive. The food came out fast and hot. No complaints for service. So, if it wasn't for the bland fish-n-chips they would have gotten five stars. I will go 3/11/13 Update Beer was very good as usual. Food was good also. I recommend very much 4/16/2013 Update Returned to Williamsburg on business. Had dinner here again. Service was friendly and fast, beer was excellent and the food was excellent. Five starts from me at this time.

Just what I always wanted, the rare combination of high prices, mediocre food and poor service. Burger and eggplant sandwich didn't taste like anything, corned beef was smallish and not great, kids enjoyed their fish and chips. Best thing we are was the chips and crisps

What a pleasant surprise...we went there for the beer selection, but the food was delicious. My husband and I shared a couple of appetizers and the pork dish with the homemade noodles. The noodles were a bit al dente for our taste, but the broth made me forget all about that. Husband and child shared the cheesecake and pratically licked the plate.

Probably the worst meal my family had on vacation. But to be fair three of us had the fish and chips. He'd we tried other dishes perhaps we would have enjoyed it. None of us finished our food. There was no taste to the fish and the huge bloody vein runny down the inside of my piece of cod was a real turn off. The waitress was fantastic. The atmosphere was fun. Beer selection was huge. If you go don't get the fish and you should be okay.

Been here several times and it doesn't have the cozyness that an authentic pub should have. While they have a decent beer selection, the food and service were mediocre. On several occasions, we waited for a very long time for drinks, apps, and dinner. One time we were seated downstairs in the basement and it had a very frigid cafeteria - like atmosphere.

Took the family here our first night in town over Green Lead which also looked pretty good (translation - good beer selection). They were not that busy and they took us quicker than expected. We then had to wait 10 minutes before anyone came to our table. And that only happened because my wife asked where our waitress was. By that time we had decided what we want to eat and placed our orders. The waitress asked my 11 yr old how he wanted his burger but never asked me and at that moment I forgot to ask. Of course I was brought a burger that was over cooked. Other than that the food was good as was the beer we selected. I recommend the Stone Enjoy by 9-13-13. Oh so the waitress also took forever to run my card and bring it back. Okay food Okay prices Good beer Lousy service

5 stars for beer! I went here last weekend for drinks w/ friends and was impressed w/ their craft beer selection and # of local and regional beers. Our service was good, especially for "Sat night at the bar" service when they were slammed. Even though we were at the bar, the bartenders were so busy it could've been very easy to neglect us. Not sure about the food here, but when in Williamsburg, "Food for Thought" is my go-to for a good meal.

We went for dinner after visiting Williamsburg. Food and service were excellent. My wife, I our son and his friend were all very pleased. The beer was good as well. The price was slightly higher than average, but it is a tourist area, so it was expected. I recommend.

I've been back three times since my initial review, and things have improved. Most of the waitstaff know the vegetarian alternatives by heart now (for goodness sake-Dave Everett-just put it on the menu like they do in England). The beer selection to be excellent, but it would be great if the draft menu could offer more details such as IBUs. I'll be going back from time to time, in off-peak hours!

We almost decided not to try the DoG Street Pub based on the reviews of their service. However, when at 6:00, the Fat Canary told us they wouldn't have anything until 9:45, we decided to take the risk, and crossed the street. We were seated promptly, and our service was excellent (our server's name was Victoria). I had the brat burger, which was wonderful, and two flights of beer, which were quite tasty. I am pleased to report that we did not have any of the negative experiences that previous reviewers reported, our dinner was excellent!

  • Thommee H.

The beer selection is amazing and the atmosphere is fun. But the food was not even mediocre. The allegedly "French Onion Soup" had a thin, watered down broth, the onions were barely cooked with no carmelization in sight, which rendered a sharp, raw onion-y taste to the soup, and crouton and gruyere were miniscule. On a lark I tried the "Brat (bratwurst) Burger." The patty had a mass-produced texture, with barely an appreciable seasoning, and was overcooked and chewy. I've had better Kaiser rolls from my local supermarket. I'm going against my better judgment by not giving them 1 star, which is what the quality of the food deserves, but I'm giving them a break because it is cute and fun.....

Good atmosphere. Great food and a beer list a mile long. How could you not like this place? We had a late lunch after all day in CW. Had a 30 minute wait but not if you're willing to sit at the bar, which we did! Bartender not super attentive but helpful when asked. Most sandwiches come with potato chips which is a minus! My daughter got fries with her cod sandwich and they are great! I would eat here again.

Food was great, beer even better! Friendly service (and that's coming from a restaurant GM)

If i could give it a negative stars i would. First we waited far beyond our quoted time. Charming place so I overlooked it. We sat down. Waited a while for our server. A can of diet coke is $2.50 no refills. Our daughters dinner came out about 15 before our food. She was finished before our food came. Then our food come out mind you after the tables that day down about 15 minutes after us. Salt is obviously the only spice they've been introduced to. We've been done now for about 30 minutes and we are still waiting for our check.

This is one of my favorite gastropubs in the Williamsburg area. I've been here many times to see the rotating beer line up; which regularly changes. The food is above average in my opinion (I've had a couple of their burgers and bangers and mash). It's the beer selection and bartenders that pushes me to give this establishment a 4-star rating! They have a large selection of craft beers available at this gastropub; some beers that I feel are very hard-to-find or are available in very limited quantities. In my opinion this place is best experienced very late at night with some good food and great beer!

Ok, we almost didn't stay at this place because it smelled like a cafeteria and was loud and crowded (it is in Colonial Williamsburg so that is too be expected). However, we were desperately in need of a drink and to sit down and regroup, so we found a spot at the (quiet) end of the bar. So glad we did! Can't review the food as we didn't eat, but the complimentary spicy nut mix was good. Awesome selection of craft beers and the staff was very accommodating if you didn't know what to try. Would have given 4 stars but for the cafeteria like atmosphere in the eating area. If you find yourself in Col WB, go for beer and just tune that out!

The tikka masala was good and the eton mess was great. Reasonable pricing for the area and a gastropub and great atmosphere.

Needed someplace to eat and here it was as we walked down the street. Food is very good, but don't order a shot of anything. Their shot prices are way out of line. You 3 shots at any other bar for what they charge for one. But the food was very good and I would eat here again. The wait staff was friendly and explained the menu and gave us helpful hints.

I'm surprised we didn't eat here more than once during our trip. The beer selection ALONE should gain this place the five star rating. So many different and local choices for draft beers - all craft brews and a hundred or so bottle options. I like that you can do a taste, a half pint, or a full pint so you can try a lot of different kinds. I had the cod sandwich which was fantastic! The breading was the perfect thickness and flavored nicely. The fries were typical steak fries but they were good. My husband had the daily special of soup and sandwich. The soup was an O'Conner Beer Cheddar soup and was OUTSTANDING! Just bursting with flavor! Service was good & efficient. We waited about 10 minutes for a table during lunch on Thursday.

Went here for drinks a couple nights while vacationing in Williamsburg. Beautiful building. Great beer list. Service was alright. My husband had to ask for his drink twice (almost 3 before we saw the lightbulb go on in the bartender's head). Friendly bartenders though. Nice place all around

The cavernous space is beautiful and colonial but the blasting pop and giant televisions are conspicuous anachronisms. This is not my complaint. The fried green tomatoes were hard and acidic. The greens they served with them had a bug in them - an exotic new and exciting kind of buggy specimen. Granted, the manager comped the dish, so at least someone on staff knows what their doing. The meat pastry was described as a savory turnover but was really a low-rent, beef pot pie filled with gristly, fatty meet, gelatinous goo, and wrapped in an undercooked pepperidge farm crust with a deceptive glossy brown egg wash. The accompanying greens were dressed with a nondescript creamy dressing with no flavor or salt. My husband got the crab cake (in name only) which was mostly a potato cake on a giant bun. Very very meh. But hey, the french fries were decent and there was no issue getting a table.

We are local to the williamsburg area and while this is in the heart of a tourist zone, we love coming here. The food is consistently good, service nice and pleasant and a great range of beverages. They have cider which keeps the wife happy and I love to try the new brews. Usually they have the right game and the atmosphere is a good mix of mixing the classic colonial feel with the modern pub atmosphere.

The family went to walk around Williamsburg. My boyfriend and I did a quick lap, and then wandered into the Dog Street Pub. We only drank, so I can't critique the food, but this place rocked my world. The vibe is great! Fits the area without coming across as 'old'. We looked for some bar seating, but there was nothing available. Finally, we found 1 chair at the end of the bar. I sat, and my boyfriend stood next to me, and we ordered some beers. The draft list was quite extensive and our selections were delicious. The beer was priced reasonably too. What brought this place to the top of my list was when a waitress noticed my boyfriend standing, and offered to pull a chair up for him. He's a pretty big and strong dude, so when he saw this little tiny waitress go to haul a chair over for him, he went to help her, but the fact that she wasn't even our server, and took the initiative to insure that my boyfriend is comfortable really stood out as a great service-move. I appreciated her tremendously. Finally the menu here looked- Brittish, but tasty! I wish we could have eaten, but tummy-space was at a minimum. I'd love to go back.

My boyfriend and I stopped in for a beer while walking around Williamsburg. It's a cute place with an interesting selection of beers. We enjoy talking to locals and getting to know the "real" facts about a location. Unfortunately, the bar staff were not as personable as we would have liked and were unable to give us any pointers about the town. Being in a tourist town, I expected them to be able to give us some suggestions on what to do while we are here, but they told us "I'm not really sure." Overall, it wasn't really worth stopping in, but I didn't try anything other than the beer.

It would seem that I'm on the high end of reviews here, but I love this place. As a former student at W&M, it was always exciting when a new food option came to town. I went here with some friends during its first month and we LOVED it. As far as I'm concerned, this type of restaurant really helps round out the options available in this part of town. DSP is a great place for a nice but not-too-pricey date, a round or two of great beers with friends, or a place to take your family. I have probably been here 5-6 times, and I have been happy with my service and food each time. Our appetizers always arrived promptly and our server always had some good insight into the masses of available beers (one time our waiter actually consulted the bartender just to provide us with added information - that was a nice touch). Other than that, the ambiance is great, the bathrooms are BEAUTIFUL, and the area provides a lovely setting for a post-meal walk through Colonial Wburg. I recommend the deviled eggs appetizer (comes with a little salad and bread too!) and the cashew/sun dried tomato/spinach pasta, but I worry that last one might have been a special. So, so good.

We've been by this place many times during previous visits, but never stopped in for some reason. Glad we finally did! We started out with the fried calamari. Lightly breaded calamari steaks that were tender and clean tasting, not just fried. My wife had the DOG pub burger. It was a very solid hamburger. I had and recommend the Brat Burger. It is a bratwurst in burger form and very well done. And I enjoyed an Alewerks bourbon barrel porter with dinner. One of the many beers they offer on tap or in a bottle. If you like a solid porter with the taste of bourbon lingering in the background, try it.

Nice place. Seems wellbeing and in good spirit! We had the DoG burger for dinner. It was a really nice burger, nothing special but nice! The french fries were a bit oversalty, other than that they were actually perfect. Our waiter was super nice and sweet. I give the place 3.5/5. If you go to Williamsburg you should dine here!

Between 3.5 & 4. Gave it 4 for friendly, efficient service. Had lunch here with family on a weekday. Was seated in a semi-private nook midway into the bistros that was perfect for six. Bistro decor was bright & clean wood with ironwork accents. They have a large beer selection, but small draught glass sizes. Highly recommend the fried green tomatoes topped with greens & goat cheese--awesome. Large hotdog (foot long?) with chili was excellent. Fish & chips good. Calamari needed to be much crisper. Curried chicken wrap was tasty & chunky, but could have less curry powder to better balance flavors. Prices are reasonable--about $25 with shared appetizer, meal, drink, tax, & tip per adult for us. Good place for lunch.

Sat at the bar & the 3 of us loved our drinks & food. Service was fast. I had a salmon salad, very tasty salmon on a bed of nice mixed greens. Hubby had the shepard's pie & said it was very good. Friend had the bangers & mash & scarfed it down. Would definitely come here again!

We all ordered burgers which were good. The burgers were hot and juicy and very big! My hub had the veal and pork burger and ordered it med rare. It was more rare than med. grosses me out but he loved it. I hope he doesn't get sick eating rare porkService was good. Not a huge fan of the fries. They were just okay. The burger can easily be split with another person or take it home. My son and I ordered the cheese burger with ham. Didn't care for the ham but I'm glad I tried it anyway. Overall, nice atmosphere and good for burgers.

Everything that I say about Dog Street simply will not do it justice. The entire experience was utterly fantastic. The brew list is extensive and covers practically every possibility that a crafter could think of enjoying - and the menu is second to none. We shared the calamari fingers as a starter. Amazing. As a main course, I got the Lamb Burger with feta cheese grilled melted INSIDE. Just awesome. My better half had the Dog Street Burger and thoroughly enjoyed every bite. The service was knowledgeable and on point as well. I will absolutely be recommending DSP to anyone and everyone who travels to Williamsburg!

Nice place here in colonial Williamsburg. We ate at the bar. I ordered the burger very good. I had a couple of the local beers and they we re very tasty. The only downfall was the bartender. He seemed to have an attitude and wasn't very friendly.

Beer selection is a mile wide but an inch deep, but great if you want to broaden your horizons. I tried the shepherds pie, but the menu neglected to mention it had mushrooms. As I hate mushrooms, I sent it back, and the waitress and manager were very accommodating and allowed me to order another entree and take the pie of the check. I got the Dog Street Burger, which was very tasty with Tilamook cheddar and Virginia cured ham. Pay attention to prices on the menu, that's my only word of caution of this place, you can easily rack up a huge bill if you're not careful.

Really good fish and chips. The split pea soup was perfect for a cold day. Hard to get into during meal times but their feature to call ahead and the return your call when your table is ready worked perfectly for us. The hotdog is huge and tasty. Would return again without question!!!

I really wanted to LOOOOOVE this place, sadly I didn't. The location is so so so perfect, but the execution and staff are not. Man and myself went here on a Sunday afternoon around 1pm- the hostess was VERY rude and dismissive of us. Told us it would be a 15 minute wait- we gladly came back in 15 minutes and they were rude again saying it would be another ten minutes. Look I don't have a problem waiting- I have a problem with bad manners. Finally we got a table outside- thank goodness because it was HOT and cramped inside. waitress was nice enough. She took our drink orders and appetizer order and ran off. We ordered a beer and a hard cider, and the green fried tomatoes without bacon. She brought back the wrong cider, and the GF Tom's with bacon all over it. The GFT was terrible- bad bad bad. We both ordered the tomato bisque and grilled cheese. I thought that meant like an entire sandwich- no that was half a sandwich and the bisque. The bisque was ok- it was a step up from canned Campbell's tomato- but not AMAZING. In general it was really not a great experience- the people watching location is the only reason it gets 2 stars.

The food's pretty good but not the best and the beer selection is nice. I think the chairs and bar are very uncomfortable and the staff is moderately friendly. I don't feel compelled to run back anytime soon.

We had such an awesome time here the first night of our golf trip that we came back the 2nd and 3rd nights as well for nightcaps. The food was absolutely delicious, the staff INCREDIBLY friendly and accommodating, and the beer selection was sheer perfection. Docked one star for being out of several of their draft beers this weekend. Would have only docked 1/2 star if I could. Classy but fun - you can't beat that!

Went here Friday expecting a good time but literally walked out of this place disappointed.:/ This place is located in the CW and thus it's a bit touristy but also since W&M are near theres some college kids too. It's located next to the Trellis and as with most business in the area there is limited parking lots and a paid parking garage so you will have to walk but only a bit. I love their mascot! Honestly besides the beer selections that was my favorite thing about this place. Anyway, as we entered there was a lot of people eating outdoors so I knew they would be busy, we ended up waiting 15 minutes for a table ( that cute dog logo really had me sold). The place is kinda cramped which is expected of a pub however, I disliked the fact that the place was so sunny and bright. I just expect pubs to be darker and more homely-this felt a bit to fake. The beer menu as fellow Yelpers have stated is awesome, reading through the beers I wondered if they really had all those in stock. The dinner/lunch menu is just meh. Nothing really stood out just your regular fish n chips, burgers, salads and small plates place. I had a hard time finding a lot of options considering my diet and quite honestly while we waited to be seated I examined plates leaving the kitchen which pretty much messed up my apepptie. I saw greasy soggy looking fries and oil burgers leave as well as discoloured boild hotdogs...beer is definitely this places strong suit. In conclusion, after waitied 15 minutes to be seat we were sat near the back where we waited an additionaly 18 minutes and left. Our drink orders weren't taken and no one even said have a good day or nothing. The hostess clearly saw our group sit down and leave and just kinda averted their eyes...seriously? Overall, I'm not sure I would come back to mediocre food, horrible customer service in a touristy poorly decorated location. Yea, the beer selection is great but it is not worth the hassle.

Considering colonial Williamsburg is a tourist attraction, my expectations for restaurant dining were pretty much in the toilet. However, those low expectations were comfortably surpassed by Dog Street Pub, and what would've been a solid three stars is getting bumped to four by of the beer selection. I was told we were going to a gastropub and expected a handful of mildly interesting options. I was beyond pumped when I saw the menu of some couple hundred brews, including an oft-rotating draft list (not that that benefits me, but good to see on principle). Hubs and I decided on a Heavy Seas Pumpkin Ale (didn't even realize they were doing a seasonal) and an Ommegang Hennepin. The food's upscale pub/bar fare. My roast beef sandwich (with sautéed onions and horseradish dip) was satisfying and pretty tasty. I thought Ryan's burger was kind of dry (ordered it medium), the bun hard, and the tomato had the taste and texture one finds when it's out of season. However, Ryan was fine with it and I didn't try it until it'd been on the table for at least 20 mins, so I'll defer to his judgement, and other burger-eaters were happy with their meals as well. The place is bright and new, has TV screens with sports games sprinkled around, and feels spacious (though reservations are recommended). It's set in modern times (no acting here), and our service was very friendly and competent. We did have one beer delivered mysteriously warm, but it was replaced immediately. I was also impressed that our reservation was ready on the dot, including a high chair already set up at the table. It was a good place to bring a baby, by the way. Space for strollers at the back, and loud enough that shrieks of delight and moments of fussiness are completely lost in the crowd noise. Next time I'm back here, this'll definitely be where I head when I want a beer, whether it not I want some food to go with it.

We had a great experience on an unseasonably same February day. We were able to sit outside. Great beer selections. Delicious vegetable sandwich and unique appetizer options. The waitress was nice but forgot to bring some things and there was confusion what on food the kitchen had (we came at four as they were transitioning to dinner.) Thank goodness we were able to get the food from the menu!

Awesome beer selection and delicious appetizers make this a great spot. I'd highly recommend the fried green tomatoes. Great flavor and the texture was spot on between the crispy bacon and creamy goat cheese. Yum!

I have to admit I was barely awake when we got here. I flew in the night before on the red eye and slept none. We found this place when searching for pub food. I was surprised to see a very nice selection of brews both on tap and bottled. Local, domestic, microbrews, etc. The beer menu was really, really big. This, I like. What beers we got, I have no idea. They were good though. Kelly was a very enthusiastic server. We ordered Black "Pudding", the sharing cheese plate and two burgers, one brat and one beef. I kind of knew taking my dad and stepmom to a gastropub was a risk, but I think they liked it. The brat burger was unusual enough to please pop, and stepmom cleaned up her plate of beef burger. I worked the pudding and cheese. I'd say the pudding was the highlight -- it was a fried egg over a few slices of sausage with some thin apple slices and onions.

We stopped there one time while visiting Williamsburg~way to noise & you sit at a table with lot of other people~it would be ok if your out for a Hangover the next day but just sit have a drink & food it wasn't what I wanted!

Good food good location (right next to the Colonial WB) bit a bit overpriced . Waiter was nice but it was a bit busy so service was kind of delayed

Nice casual place. Interesting dinner choices. Was not impressed with the hostesses. They were too busy talking to each other rather than letting us know where we could sit. Our waitress was very nice & attentive. Food was good. Cheesecake was awesome. Huge beer selection.
