I'm giving this only a 2 star restaurant. The atmosphere is great....location okay only b/c parking is difficult. The food was very much lacking. I ordered the Asian salad....however, for $9 bucks, you think you would receive more than 3 shrimps, and the cook forgot about my baked wonton strips that were supposed to be on the salad. My lunch date ordered chicken and guac on the side of the cobb salad.... I never would have thought this would have been an additional $4. First impressions are everything.... I'll not be going back. p.s The waitress was great. DT

Patrick Henry wanted something not as pricey as the Penny Deux, with a more homey feel and better suited to the many students and young professionals of the PH. The owners of Wildflour and Wasena Tap Room have answered with "Henry's Public House". I personally find that the location is gorgeous. The lobby of the PH is one of the most beautiful I've seen in so many cities...I love the old school theme they have going on and the chic black that's seen. But onto the new restaurant! I came here for 3 days of soft opening and really got to know the menu and the staff while I was there. For vegetarians, you're looking at a couple good appetizer choices, the spinach & artichoke dip as well as the heirloom tomato caprese. For the meat eaters, everyone I talked to said the wings were some of the best they've ever had. Lucky for you, these wings are only 50 cents at happy hour (4-7 pm)!!! When we move onto entrees, I'd say that Henry's is better at its sandwiches than entree plates. Mah veg kidz should go for the veggie club (dat pesto tho...really) or the grilled pimento cheese sandwich (add a fresh tomato slice or two to this - you will thank me). The Whiskey Burger and Fish & Chips were the favorites of my group of friends otherwise though. So let's talk about drinks. Henry's has a great set of bartenders on the cocktail lounge side of things: Whitney and Danielle. Both will take care of you thoroughly and are great conversations just waiting to happen. The draft beer list and wine list are pretty solid I'd say, but I truly love the cocktails when I'm here. Danielle being the mixologist will make you a scrumptious manhattan or old fashioned (the two go-to drinks I've had here), but excels at the house cocktails and pretty much whatever you want to order from her! And guess what - you'll spend only $6-12 for these ridiculously good drinks!! So even if you're not hungry, drop by Henry's for a tasty sip and spend some time meeting really cool people in Roanoke. And say hi if you see yours truly there!

I had the whiskey barbecue burger. It was alright, the sauce was pretty good. The tomatoes were mushy though- tomatoes should just be forgone in January. Here's the annoying bit though : burgers and sandwiches come with tortilla chips the side, just plain tortilla chips, and salsa is a dollar extra. It is also a dollar extra to sub fries or sweet potato fries. First of all, tortilla chips do not go with burgers. Second of all, if you're going to serve tortilla chips, you ought to serve salsa with them. Who eats dry tortilla chips? Overall, meh.

In just a few short months this place has become what I was hoping it would be - a friendly atmosphere w/great food (sweet potato fries!) and AMAZINGLY drinks. You can't beat half-price burger night on Tuesdays. If you really want to be impressed though, go to the bar in the lobby and ask bartender Danielle for a drink made w/one of her shrubs (so fitting for a place named after Patrick Henry!). Dangerously good, and unlike anything you can get anywhere else!

I had dinner at Henry's Public House tonight, and while I had high hopes for this new downtown restaurant, I was disappointed on all counts. First, the menu is very limited, and the food my party ordered was not impressive. I had the Cobb salad, which was mostly spring mix (not the usual romaine), with some bacon bits, a few corn kernels, and several small pieces of grilled chicken. It arrived with no dressing. (They could take a lesson on Cobb salad from Montano's.) It took probably ten minutes to catch our server to mention this- she told me that she had not keyed in a dressing when she entered our order. Instead of bringing the dressing right away, she went to a computer to enter the orders for a large party sitting behind us. I waited at least 15-20 minutes to get the dressing, by which time the others in my group were halfway through their meals. One of us ordered fish & chips, which came with no tartar sauce. When we requested it, it took quite some time to bring that as well. A server told us they had run out of it. The fish, which I sampled, tasted as if the oil in which it was fried needed to be changed. They had also run out of their only domestic draft beer, and when our server brought out the craft beer that one member of our party ordered, she told us that we were lucky to get it- it was the last pour. I politely told another server (or hostess?) who checked on us that I thought 20 minutes was too long to wait to get salad dressing, and she told me that the servers were crazy busy. (I also told our server when she returned.)When I mentioned that the restaurant was very lightly occupied (there were maybe 5 other tables taken at that time), she said that the servers were also waiting on tables in the bar upstairs. However, she added that only one table requiring food service was taken in the bar area. All of the staff appeared to be very inexperienced, and while they seem like nice people, they need some restaurant service training, and possibly some more mature servers working with them to set an example. Finally, while the restaurant is very attractively decorated, it's also very large, and with only some low-key indie-sounding music playing in the distance, and very few tables occupied, it was lacking in atmosphere or warmth. So, with sub-par ratings on menu selection, food quality, service, and atmosphere, I don't think I'll be back. I tipped generously and thanked our server, but it was a stretch to do it. I do wish the owners all the best, however, and hope that they can tweak these problems early enough to ensure their future success.

Love this place! Delicious drinks and appetizers. Staff is very friendly and the bar is located in one of the classiest, most well-known buildings in Roanoke.
