Best Jackson Ward restaurant for sho for sho! We ate here Sept 4, First Friday of September when Downtown was packed with RVA First Friday patrons. We walked around Jackson Ward to create a new experience and new memories, being careful to choose a locally owned establishment. We stood at the corner of 2nd and Marshall discussing our options and a passerby out of the blue recommended Lucys. It didnt take much thought after we walked inside. Wow. What a presentation! Inside the restaurant is very welcoming, womderful lighting, friendly service and smiles on the servers faces. We did not have a reservation but they refused to let us leave: they made room for 2 more The meat Fillet Steak was OMG! Mouth watering beefy - delish!!! Locally owned Moravian cattle from the restaurant owners ranch, the side dishes fresh and locally grown, beer was local VA breweries and the taste out of this world. We fell in love with Lucys and the patrons were classy people. The menu lists their burger @ $11. Local meat, local ingredients and priced just right! This place deserves your attention, unlike one local establishment that rips off their patrons with overpriced burgers and beers, and arrogant attitude: Saison Market

I love Lucy's! I came here hungry on a Friday afternoon. I just got off of a two-hour bus, and we happened to walk past this small restaurant. Lucy's is classy and has really thoughtful accents like these amazing plant picture frames (see picture). It's a smaller restaurant, so it can accommodate smaller groups well. I got the meatless meatball sub that comes with either fries or a side salad. The meatless meatballs are made with artichoke, spinach and avocado, i.e. more creative than just tofu. The dish came out piping hot and with gooey melted mozzarella cheese on top. It was hearty, filling, and pretty healthy. Lucy's menu changes regularly, and they have fun and seasonal specials. Creative dishes, relaxing atmosphere, great service -- try it out!

Very quaint place in an awesome looking district of Richmond, VA. I came here with my family in the midst of a Father's Day road trip. Upon entering I loved the atmosphere that Lucy's presented itself with. As a family who was just passing through, our wait was about 30 minutes (on Father's Day) which it might be a little bad for a me on a normal day, I totally understood the busyness. I was perusing the menu before getting seated, and the Brunch place seemed to have a nice, but short selection of food options for everyone. All ages seemed to be happy in this restaurant. I ordered the brunch steak special. Man, I was not disappointed at all! The steak from Monrovia Farm definitely did not disappoint. Though I was not completely filled up after the meal, the food was definitely eloquent and on a different level. The servers were very courteous (maybe it's the southern hospitality), and everyone just seemed to be enjoying themselves in this restaurant. If I am ever back in the area, I will come back again!

Listen, Lucy's is my favorite restaurant in Jackson Ward. If you've been there, then you know why. I ran in after the Wine Expo this weekend because I was craving my favorite meal- non spaghetti & meatballs. It is exactly how it sounds: spaghetti and meatballs but with spaghetti squash instead of pasta and spinach, avocado, and artichoke "meatballs" instead of regular meatballs. Like, seriously who thought of this? They are genius! I'm good for getting this for takeout on a day when I'm craving spaghetti, but don't need the disrespectful carbs in my life. The restaurant itself is charming. I always receive a warm welcome upon entering and the crowd always seems very relaxed. I absolutely love their partnership with Monrovia Farm. It's a good thing to know where my food is coming from and adds a certain flare to their story! Since I always get the same thing, I solemnly swear that the next time I come here I will try something new. Their menu is always intriguing and it's a shame to not branch out. You'll be seeing me again very soon, Lucy's!

Lucy's is another great addition to the Jackson Ward area-we had a great brunch here, and were seriously impressed in particular with the service and the setting. Lucy's feels cozy as soon as you walk in. Lots of paintings from local artists frame the walls, and the wood floors and benches really make you feel at home. The location is small too, we came around 1:30 on a Sunday and I can't imagine how packed they get any earlier than that. If you can, get here later or very early to avoid the brunch rush! The French Pound I had was wonderful. It's a very thick French toast, almost pound cake consistency, drizzled with blackberry sauce and honey. The sauce really works well with the dryness that comes with this kind of French toast, and the chopped almonds sprinkled on top added a nice touch. Very good brunch food. The house bloody mary, the "Bloody Lucy", was also excellent. I like my bloody marys spicy, and this really hit the spot. There was a certain thickness to this drink as well that I really enjoyed, but it was a bit lacking in vodka. We had great service throughout our visit, the food was out quickly, and the prices were good. Lucy's is a great choice for brunch and I'm looking forward to my next visit!

Lucy can be easily overlooked. It's quite small and somewhat randomly placed in Jackson Ward. Nevertheless, I would frequent this cute brunch place at every opportunity possible. For 16 dollars, I was able to order steak and eggs with bread pudding. Such a hearty meal for a great price. The steak was tender, the eggs were perfectly overeasy. The star however was by far the bread pudding. The bread pudding felt like Christmas morning. It was filled with warmth and love. The service was great, super friendly waitress who was attentive but not overbearing. The decor was somewhat hipster but customers were still diverse. A bit small so large parties are not recommended. All in all, definitely worth trying.

Ever since Lucy's was featured in a Weekly Yelp (in a review written by my friend and fellow Elite Kelly C.), I have been wanting to try it out. Today, I finally got the chance to do so when I had brunch there with none other than Kelly herself! =) We arrived around 10:45AM (brunch starts at 10AM). The restaurant was full, but we were fortunate and only had to wait about three minutes for a table. The restaurant isn't too big, but it has a decent amount of seats. Lots of natural light due to the big window upfront in this cozy part of Jackson Ward on a Sunday morning. The interior of the restaurant is pleasant, with a wall lined with brick on one side and peculiar planters hanging on the opposite wall (with plants sticking out perpendicular to the wall). Service was fine, and we had a friendly waitress who was later willing to split our bill even after it had been printed as one. She was so sweet! I ordered grapefruit juice (I felt like having a drink since it was brunch), but was disappointed that it was pulp-free and came with a lot of ice. In my opinion, juice without pulp is not real juice. =P I forget the exact name of my dish, it was a pork dish with "fried bread," poached eggs, scallion hollandaise, and roasted potatoes. The two pieces of bread and thinly sliced pork (think prosciutto) were kind of small, but the side of potatoes and richness of the two eggs and hollandaise still made the dish very filling. The scallion hollandaise was really unique; it tasted great and I have never seen green hollandaise before! I think I liked Kelly's dish more (which I sampled, and is also pictured below). She ordered the fish and grits: fried catfish with two eggs over a bed of very smooth, creamy grits. Very warm and very delish! =) Kelly also said that the coffee today was especially excellent (although she was definitely feeling its diuretic power having drunk nearly two large mugs worth when we made snickerdoodles at my place after our meal). Overall, reasonable prices for brunch (less than or equal to $12, most under $10) and an excellent dining experience. Kelly says it's probably her favorite restaurant in all of Richmond! I don't know that I'd give it quite such high praise, but it does deserve a very high 4-star rating in my book. P.S. I almost forgot, most of their ingredients come fresh from their own farm, which is pretty cool. Maybe bumps up their rating to 4.5 stars. ;)

If you're looking for a comfort breakfast, try the fish and grits. It's absolute heaven on a plate! Eggs done your way and fried fish over a bed of grits and mushroom gravy. So, so good...with added salt and pepper. Small, cozy restaurant on 2nd Street in Jackson Ward. Nice décor. Pleasant bartender and waitresses. I also tried a slice of pumpkin cheesecake, which had no flavor, and the texture was off. Unfortunate and shouldn't be on the menu at all. Still, I really like this spot and will definitely be back.

Very cozy atmosphere. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. The large table in the back was perfect for our family of 8. Several of us had the grilled sirloin and were very impressed with the flavor. Several ordered burgers which were a bit undercooked but still flavorful. Corn fritters were very good too. Plenty of parking was available. Will definitely be back for a brunch!

The brunch is excellent! I am not a breakfast person but the Porky's Hash I had was phenomenal. The Blood Lucy is a well done interpretation of the classic "bloody" drink. First class execution and quality ingredients was evident in our meal. We are definitely going to be back for a dinner service!

I ordered the Porkies Hash here from Lucy's. It was fairly tasty except the potatoes. They were harder and less seasoned than I'm used to having on my RVA brunch adventures. The pork was tasty, eggs were fine of course and the sauce was also tasty. The service was great (Amanda L), musical selection was great, the look of the restaurant was cool. Good ol brick and wood type of thing like most RVA restaurants. This isn't a place that I wouldn't recommend if somebody were interested in going but there are definitely a few other places I'd pick before here. Not disappointed at all just used to other things.

Lucy's effortlessly sophisticated & comfortable atmosphere made a really nice impression. The staff know their role - always kind & helpful, never impatient. I got to enjoy a special sandwich with house-made corned beef that was nothing shy of art. In short, the restaurant comes across like a farm-to-table love letter; you can tell they care.

what a cute, farm to table, delicious place in Jackson ward. I've been eyeing this place for awhile and finally got to try it for brunch today. we started with the cherry/raspberry mimosas which were a special for the day. sooo delicious. those alone are worth five stars. I was debating between the lemon pound cake french toast and the open joy sandwich. I went with the open joy because I couldn't justify cake for brunch haha. boyfriend has the burger. the fries are delicious and the sandwich was really fresh. boyfriend liked the burger but said he's had better. I'm dying to go back and try the meatless meatballs and other items.

If I could give this place more than 5 stars I would. This was THE most delicious meal-hands down. The best crab cakes I've ever had- even the shaved brussel sprouts that garnished the dish were delicious. The meat and cheese board was great- smoked cheese and their own cured beef bacon- we could have eaten the bacon itself for dinner. For dinner we had the two specials- scallops with jalapeño corn and fried green tomatoes and a 12 oz strip steak with chive butter, asparagus and rosemary gnocchi. Everything was delicious and cooked absolutely perfectly. My mother in law grew up on a farm and said it was the best steak she ever hard- it tasted like steaks used to! For dessert we had home made...yes home made mint ice cream and sugar cookie sandwich (and we could taste the fresh mint in the ice cream- like nothing we've had before!). The creme brûlée was phenomenal too. I love that they use fresh, ingredients from their family farm and make what seemed like everything from scratch!! The only downside is that they don't have a Lucy's in Cleveland. Please Lucy's, get on that :)

Really enjoyed my dinner at Lucy's. For the price point, I need to try a few more dishes before I could give it a 5. Tried the non-spaghetti and meatballs which is a veggie meatball with squash strands as the spaghetti. Came out piping hot and the meatballs were really good. The squash spaghetti was not bad but different. I could def recommend it but I would also try something else next time. BF had the ny strip special - meat was good, wish the med rare was a little more rare. Bread was crusty and good. Service was nice and the place looks good. The dress is a little nicer than casual.

First time visiting Richmond and decided to try this place out. We ordered the bacon donut holes and the burger. The donut holes were very balanced! Not too heavy and just the right amount of bacon. The burger was perfectly cooked, bun had mayo. The fries were kennebec- not as crunchy as I like but still good. Great atmosphere and service! The bar has a nice selection of craft beers, 5$ mimosa and Bloody Mary!

My goodness! Amazing food! Great atmosphere. I had the mushroom soup and the dip (roast beef with an a jus). The beef came from, get this, the owner's own farm, Monrovia Farms! How tender and flavorful! This is a 5 minute walk from the Richmond Convention Center! DON'T eat there! Eat here at the same price!

I was in search of a restaurant somewhere between Blacksburg and Newport News. I figured I had a decent shot at finding a farm to table restaurant in Richmond, so thus my search began. Lucy's surfaced, so I checked out the menu and figured I'd give it a shot! I arrived about an hour after Lucy's opened and...I was the only one there! Wait, are you open? The bartender confirmed they were so I took a seat at the bar and began investigating my options. The restaurant quickly filled up and I ordered the non-spaghetti and meatballs. My meal arrived quickly and boy was it delicious! I will admit, if I could change just one thing, I would have had real meat balls instead of the non-meat meatballs, but regardless, it all tasted amazing and my tastebuds/stomach were pleased. The wait staff was nice, great ambiance, love the background music and I was able to park just a few feet from the front door.

A place that has "non spaghetti and meatballs" on the menu is immediately a winner in my book! So what does that mean? Well, it's spaghetti and meatballs without the pasta or the meat! It's actually spaghetti squash served with a delicious caramelized onion sauce and topped with five avocado, artichoke, and spinach orbs that look like meatballs at first glance. I mean, it's seriously crazy how similar this dish actually looks to it's carb and meat counterpart. Looks aside, the taste is what really matters, and it was spot on. I'm a spaghetti squash, avocado, artichoke, and spinach fan, but I'm less of a caramelized onion person. Not with this dish! The ingredients all worked together really well and the flavors played off of each other - including the onions! Seriously, so delicious. I could only eat about half, but that just meant I got to enjoy round two of my faux spaghetti and meatballs the next day. I also have to give a shout out to the summer wrap, which my fiancé and I shared as our app. It's shrimp salad with dill, lemon, and sour cream wrapped in bibb lettuce. It was light, refreshing, and the perfect way to start the meal. Oh, and we received incredible service from the moment we entered the restaurant. We'll definitely be back to Lucy's soon.

Baxter's Beef - 4/5. Braised beef with a whole grain mustard sauce and slice of provolone cheese served inside a warm ciabatta bun. Definitely satisfies the urge for a meaty sandwich that has a good balance of elements (plus a side salad thrown in with the lunch sandwich too!) Definitely have plans to come back and try out the Downtown Cheddar!

Farm-to-table? Beautiful interior? Great service? Awesome-possum food and presentation? Check, check, check, check. Upon arriving in Jackson Ward for dinner, we found parking at a nearby street and casually strolled in to this cozy yet open restaurant. The overall dining experience is five stars. And the starter bread...yums. Plus, who (other than the non-meat eaters) could say "no" to farm-raised beef? The Dinner Eats: 1. The Corn Beef ($9): a delectable, albeit small, appetizer composed of their well-known seared, juicy corned beef atop a well-seasoned polenta cake served with sides of pickled onions and mustard. Can't get enough of it. 2. Bibb Blue & Black ($8): a small lettuce salad with absolutely delicious blocks of blue cheese. If you're a blue cheese lover, this is it. 3. Non "Spaghetti & Meat Balls" ($16): a medium plate of 5-6 fried vegetable meatballs over spaghetti squash and sauce. Overall taste is decent, however, definitely not enough carbs to keep us full. I would probably skip this one and try the hamburger or lamb at my next visit. 4. Basil ice cream over pan-fried lemon cake ($5): enough to share amongst two. It still floors me how strong yet flavorful the basil (hand-picked by the waitress) came through in the ice cream. The idea of serving it over the lemon cake along with a side of blackberries makes for a perfect melody. [[EDIT]] Made it back for brunch and it was divine! The Sunday Brunch Eats: 1. Corn Beef Hash ($10): little cubes of corn beef with flavors bursting at its seams along with potatoes and topped with two eggs however you like it. Wish there was more as I could eat this all day. 2. Fish and Grits ($11): a large SUPER flavorful dish of two eggs over fried fish over amazingly creamy grits. MUST GET. Best service and food ever. Lucy's has definitely become my favorite restaurant in Richmond.

Tried this place for the first time finally, which is kind of ridiculous since my bf lives so close. Sat happily at the bar, and were served by Arthur, a familiar face from the Whiskey bar. I ordered the duck. Duck fat seared to perfection, sitting alongside the creamiest polenta with goat cheese ever. The bf got a special of steak cooked wonderfully with rosemary potatoes. For dessert we fought over the panacotta with our spoons. Beautiful interior, great service. Fantastic dining experience, and I will be back for sure!

Great spot from start to finish. Started the evening at the bar and had deliciously handmade cocktails, Moscow mule was made with house made ginger beer- awesome! Service was great, friendly and attentive but not overbearing. We enjoyed the shrimp and grits - just enough spice and not too cheesy. House made fettuccini with fresh vegetables and house made bacon was incredible. The strawberry salad had a nice twist with cashews. Enjoyed it all and will definitely be back.

Overall a great brunch spot, however I felt that when I requested for things it was forgotten and I had to ask a second time. The hollandaise sauce was pretty sour and the flavors weren't "all that" but I would go back.

I would give this 3.5 stars. This is one of those typical Jackson Ward old buildings, but very nicely remodeled. There was a small bar in the back and a moderately sized seating area. I came here for dinner on a Saturday with a group of eight people. We had cocktails and beer before dinner, and everyone was happy. They had a few beers, and I had the Champion IPA, which was very good. My wife had a cocktail (I can't remember what now) that she really enjoyed. The table split some appetizers and the highlight was a plate that included a small piece of steak, which was excellent. The owners of the restaurant also are affiliated with the firm from which the meat hails, and the steak was excellent. I believe we also had fondue and something else, but they weren't particularly memorable. For our entrees, I had the Non Spaghetti and Meat Balls at the recommendation of a few Yelpers. It was very good, but a little less flavorful than I was hoping for. I'm just not generally one who would prefer the vegetarian option. My wife had the special, a New York Strip with savory bread pudding and asparagus. It was also outstanding, likely because of the freshness of the meat. All in all a good eating experience, but nothing out of this world.

10 stars for this outstanding and amazing spot! My absolute favorite place in all of Richmond! We found Lucy's after Broad Appetite 2 years ago after the mouth-watering beef decadence of a sandwich...seriously it is heaven. Since then we've been back for brunch, dinner, & lunch and everything is out of this world. Seriously these chefs are magicians and artists. The food isn't BS fancy rather absolute heaven! I would recommend everything - huevos rancheros with the homemade chips and edamame beans, no meat spaghetti & meatballs, meatloaf with fingerling potatoes, burgers, Baxter's beef sandwich is out of this world & totally worth cheating for all you non-bread eaters out there...check it out you won't be disappointed....definitely remember I Love Lucy's!

I was here last night for a vendor dinner. The service was spot on throughout the entire meal. Our server allowed us enough time to make our decisions and when we were deeply engaged in conversation she noticed and gave us more time. There are a few little tweaks I'd recommend that would just push this into 4 star territory for me. We shared 3 appetizers, the meat and cheese board, the crab cakes and the shrimp. All were very tasty. My issue came with the fact we shared. Since we shared, we used our bread plates so I was unable to drizzle oil on the plate and enjoy a piece of the delicious looking bread. Next time, if there's sharing I would recommend bringing appetizer plates. This would also allow you to bus my dirty plates and retain my silverware by placing them on my bread plate and not directly on the table. Three of us ordered the daily beef special which was the rib-eye. It was cooked perfectly. It came with what must be magically scalloped potatoes since I am known for HATING scalloped potatoes and there were none left at the end. See - MAGIC! If I had one recommendation here (and you know I do) I would reduce the number of onions severed on top on the meat. I like onions, but the dish would be well served with about half the amount. Lastly, we had dessert. They won me at chocolate mousse. It was served in a wider glass with a decadent marshmallow topping. It was SO RICH that none of us could even finish it. My note here - serve it in a tall glass so that you reduce the amount of topping and cut the richness. Luckily one of my dining companions made short work of what I left. I also enjoyed a lovely Manhattan since I am a sucker for a bourbon cocktail. Plus prosecco with dessert. I'll definitely be bringing the hubby back with me.

Pros: The best bloody mary I've had in Richmond so far. Nice-looking environment and people. 50's musicals playing on the TV gave me something to watch. I did not have the food but it looked delicious and the prices were good. Cons: Very little attention given to me at the bar by the staff. The drink took about 10 minutes to fix, and then I sat there drinking it for about 10 minutes before the bartender asked me what I'd like to order. No more contact until I told him I was ready to pay. None of the other 3 servers said hello. Everyone who came was a couple, so not exactly the best place to meet people, in my opinion, at least on a Sunday at 2:00 pm. They were a little busy, but so what. I expect more when I go out to eat, so they get a solid 4 for the food alone.

My husband and I came here after rave reviews from friends, and while we enjoyed our meal, we left a bit disappointed. The wings are incredibly dry, although the sour cream dipping sauce was pretty good. My husband got the burger after hearing it was the best in Richmond, and while it wasn't terrible, it was anything that special, and didn't even make our top 10 list. My meatloaf was okay, but again, a little dry. The tomato sauce served on top is cold, which is a weird combo. I get that Cesar salads are made with anchovies, but the salad here tasted like old fish guts, that I couldn't eat. Our trip to Lucy's was by no means terrible, and if a friend invited me to go again I would join... But with all the other great options in Richmond, I doubt I would ever chose to come here again, especially at the price point.

One of the best burgers I have ever eaten. Cooked to perfection. I also recommend getting the fries, amazing! They were crispy and well salted. Atmosphere is very cute, they had an old movie playing on the TV and jazzy music playing. Our waitress was very pleasant and gave us some good suggestions for things to do around Richmond. My fiancé had the HRT sandwich, which was very good with the chipotle mayo that was delicious and the Cesar salad. Definitely recommend!

Great little independently-owned restaurant (ie not Richmond Restaurant Group) in the emerging neighborhood of Jackson Ward. It's relatively small, but efficiently uses the space to maximize seating while not feeling cramped. The bar toward the back has seating for 8, and itself is spacious enough to comfortably accomodate diners. The draft list has 3 beers, and if you're not in eye-shot of the taps, you're gambling with your order because they don't list the full names of their beers on the over-head chalkboard. However, the bottle list is substantial, and representative of a range of styles. The cocktail list, superficially, is exciting, with a handful of prohibition-era drinks. However, in our experience, the bartender knew NONE of them by heart, referring back to the list itself a half dozen times to mentally gather the ingredients, and mixing them in very odd proportions. After speaking with him, it turns out he's not a proper bartender, but rather a restaurant "jack of all trades". While I can appreciate it may be prohibitively expensive to have a full-time bartender in a new restaurant like Lucy's, in the future, I hope that changes. The highlight of this restaurant, and where most new ones fail in their infancy, is the food itself. The menu strikes a balance between creativity and comfort, resulting in a dining experience that is simultaneously interesting and familiar. Yes, they source their beef from the co-owner's family farm, and, yes, the beef is tasty (though maybe a touch overcooked and overseasoned), but I was more impressed with the non-beef (and meat free) dishes. In addition to quality execution, the portions are hearty and the prices are reasonable. I for one am thrilled to see an emergence of solid neighborhood restaurants in Jackson Ward, and am excited to see how Lucy's grows.

In the emerging restaurant scene that is Jackson Ward, this is another gem. The restaurant has had great reviews and is doing it all just right. I love the decor and the vibe of comfortable/rustic, but nice and thoughtful. The owners, one of whom was our server, have put a lot of love into the place. The menu features lots of meat from one of the owner's family farm, Monrovia. I was there for lunch. The burger my friend got and the chicken I had were both excellent. I had the Pig & Chicken Salad. Delicious pieces of chicken encrusted in bacon. You really can't go wrong with it - tons of flavor. There is a whole list of delicious-sounding sandwiches that I have yet to get to. Looking forward to more.

I was visiting Richmond from Dallas and went here on a recommendation of a friend. The ambience was peaceful and quaint while the service was attentive but not annoying. The drinks were delicious and the duck was cooked perfectly, crispy outside but tender meat. I couldn't find a way to say how it could be better.

Locally sourced beef cooked to perfection. I can't say anything bad about this place. I've had all their veggie dishes, which are amazing but when I found out about their whole beef situation, I almost peed my pants. The owners have a grass fed beef farm......boooooooooom. That was my head exploding. So I tried the corn-beef hash, easily the best in the city, then I tried the beef and cheese plate, also incredible. What really blows me away, like a million miles away and turns me into a savage cave dweller, is the burger. The seemingly regular hamburger will trigger your animalistic survival brain switch and make you into a uncontrollable wildling. I understand now why people started to like hamburgers, I was never a fan before now. WOW. ::::faint::::

Met my niece here for lunch on Sunday afternoon. The place is really cute inside and out. The waiter was very attentive but not overly so. And the food!!!!! Wow! My niece had a breakfast sandwich and breakfast potatoes and my husband and I both enjoyed the special "Baxter's Beef," tender pulled beef with provolone and pickles on a ciabatta roll served with house-made chips or a side salad or, for $1.00 extra, fries. He chose the fries and I, the chips. Everything was fresh and tasty. As we usually do, the three of us lingered after lunch at the table for a while talking and were not bothered. (While we weren't alone, they weren't crowded either.) We will definitely go back!

Great service, superb breakfast. A little gem hidden away amongst closed shops. My only complaint was no almond or soy milk options for my coffee.

Went with my girlfriend for brunch on a Sunday morning. Jackson Ward is really becoming an attractive area with all the new dining options, and this is a great addition. Atmosphere is relaxing with cool hues, classy yet managing to be casual and unpretentious. I ordered a Bloody Mary which was delicious, and did not appear to be or taste like a Bloody Mary made with Zing Zang; I believe he used fresh ingredients. If it did have Zing Zang, the bartender sure fooled me. The pickled green bean garnish was a nice touch. Now, the food: delicious. The quality of the ingredients they use shows, and it is remarkable that one can get such quality food at such a price. I ordered steak (medium-rare) and scrambled eggs which came with a side of potatoes. My girlfriend ordered a cup of corn chicken chowder and Witte's Huevos. My steak was cooked a little bit closer medium than medium-rare, but was flavored perfectly. The beef they use is really tasty, there was no reason for me to use add any sort of extra seasoning or sauce. The eggs were cooked well, and I thought the potatoes were tasty although my girlfriend thought they were a bit salty. My girlfriend loved the chowder, we joked about trying to buy an entire pot to take home. Witte's Huevos was delicious, my girlfriend loved every bite of her dish. They did not overload the tortilla chips with sauce or toppings which in my experience can result in a soggy, chewy chip. The dish had just the right amount of each ingredient and retained the crunch that accents the softer textures. Our service was good. Informative, and not intrusive or overbearing. We really liked this place, and definitely plan on going again this month for lunch/dinner.

We'd heard a lot about this place and my wife and I were very excited to try it. What I loved most was the simplicity of everything. From the cozy casual decor, to the perfectly curated wine and beer list. I imagine this is the perfect spot for a romantic evening out, a spontaneous celebration with friends, or just a midweek meal when cooking isn't in the cards. Lucy's definitely emphasizes a farm-to-table ethos but in a very non-pretentious way. We enjoyed our meal so much on Saturday night that we came back in for brunch on Sunday! We arrived a bit early for our dinner reservation, but Amanda (one of the co-owners) was able to accommodate us right away. What ensued was one of the finest meals I've had in the past 5 years. We started with the cheese fondue and beef pastry appetizers. The fondue was creamy and inviting. The apples, croutons, and fried cauliflower were the perfect partners for dunking into the perfect blend of boursin and blue cheese. The beef & pastry was flaky and surprisingly flavorful. We shared the spring chicken entree and this was the star of the show. The dry rub BBQ was the perfect mix of spiciness and sweetness. The meat was to perfection. The jalapeno creamed corn was spot on. I could have easily eaten a second helping. The swisschard was bright and colorful. It was cooked with great care so as to not be overly wilted. The service was attentive without being intrusive. Impressed by our dinner experience, we returned the next afternoon. I know RVA has some legendary brunch spots but this newcomer deserves to be in the conversation. From the tangy blackberry bellini to the eggs benedict that my wife declared the best she's ever had, this place has all the ingredients for a perfect lowkey brunch. I opted for the fried catfish special. Holy mother of Mary...this was comfort food on steroids. Creamy grits, farm fresh eggs, and crispy fried catfish...all smothered in oyster mushroom gravy. My mouth is watering just typing this. The only downside is we don't live in Richmond. And given interstate 95 traffic during the summer months, we won't be back for a while. But when we do return, we will be sure to seek out Lucy's - the crown jewel of the emerging Jackson Ward restaurant scene.

Our Richmond restaurants just seem to be getting better and better all the time. We have a new gem! Lucy's! The Jackson Ward section is rapidly adding very special places to eat, too! This is a farm to table restaurant that the owners actually own the farm! Pretty cool, huh! Their farm is in Westmorland County and the food, veggies and meat are great. Since I always order a burger at all the farm to table and better restaurants that serve burgers, I keep a mental note and this one is a winner! It was a fresh blu-cheese burger that was outstanding! I wasn't surprised! The makeover of Lucy's is really cool, open, w/ an exposed brick wall! The owners will either be cooking or serving. Everyone's food was excellent! Excellent place! Should be on your bucket list for spring14!!

Came here the other night with 2 friends that had never been. After I had raved about the food here, I was a bit disappointed this particular night in the food. One friend ordered the non-spaghetti and meatballs (thank goodness) and this unfortunately was the only good dish that night. The other friend and I both ordered the "fresh pasta" dish (from menu - House made pasta with a butternut squash, saffron cream sauce, arugula, topped with toasted cashews and aged gruyere cheese). It was mediocre, surprisingly. I was really expecting alot of flavor here because of my past visits. This menu item has to be replaced. We also ordered for an app the "Beef & Pastry" - Slow braised beef, onion, goat cheese, in house made tart shell. It was good, maybe could do with less cheese and not so gamey meat. Wine was great, per usual here.

We came in for brunch. Lets just say the hollandaise is amazingly fresh. But we are carnivores and the meat surely did not miss. They source locally from monrovia farms. Have to say the best put together restaurant I've seen in a while. The wrought iron front door is amazing and probably came from a local craftsman. Keep up the good work! We'll come by for dinner and be sure to update to 5 stars!

I got to visit Lucy's for the first time yesterday during happy hour and it was beautiful! I don't know what the space looked like before they renovated but they have really created a beautiful and comfortable space. The lighting is awesome and everything is warm, but also very clean and tidy. I was very impressed! The drink list was right sized and came in a cute little booklet. They had a small selection of draft beers and wines and many more in bottles. All of the staff was welcoming and swift to serve. I am looking forward to making it back for dinner soon!

It pains me to write this review and to give Lucy's anything but five stars because the food and drinks were nothing less than amazing. And the service was great.....up until the last 30 seconds before we walked out the door to leave. I had brunch at Lucy's this past Sunday with five of my closest friends to celebrate a recent engagement. I put my name on the list a little before 11AM, and the tiny Jackson Ward location was packed. We waited patiently for the only large table in the restaurant, it ended up being approximately a half hour. We were all hungry but it great moods and not turned off by the wait at all. We finally made it too our table and ordered a round of bloody marys, and they were amazing. We ordered an appetizer, salads, and brunch entrees. Everything came out of the kitchen promptly and was delicious! The server was very friendly and attentive. She brought us the check and we split it equally between the six of us. Our server brought the credit cards slips back on mini clipboards with pens. About 10 minutes later, as two of my friends were taking the last sips of their second bloody mary, a different woman came to our table and said something to the effect of "Please leave, there are other people waiting for your table." (It was worded differently, but does it matter? No) I was beyond shocked and very angry. First of all we waited 30 minutes for that table, spent about $200, and had just paid our bill. We were not a two top that had been hanging around for 45 minutes after paying out. Secondly, I, and all of my friends who were present, have worked in the service industry in some way or another for over a decade. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to ask/tell people who outstay their welcome to leave. But you just can't, because it's inexcusably rude. We all spent the rest of the afternoon talking about how that excellent meal was ruined in what was literally the last minute that we were in this restaurant. It took me another 60 seconds of internet research to find out that the woman that asked us to leave was the owner, Amanda. I was shocked again. How can you offer a great guest experience to some at the expense of others? It doesn't make sense to me. At this point, I doubt any of us will be back, despite any cravings we may have for the food we tried that morning. If you treat your customers like they don't matter, they won't come back. Pretty simple.

Overall unimpressed but worth another shot. Pluses: ambiance, character, service. The vegetarian spaghetti and meatballs that my friend got were amazing. It's pretty hard to find a GOOD vegetarian meal that's actually creative, but it really was fantastic. The bread was warm and perfectly crusty on the outside and soft on the inside, just wish they were more generous with their bread portions (but hey, complementary bread, not really complaining). Also the beef comes from a family farm, yay! Minuses: the meals my boyfriend and I got were both drastically unseasoned. I got the shrimp pasta which was utterly tasteless, could not taste any garlic or cauliflower as was described in menu, also no snowpeas. It was literally unseasoned shrimp, a very bland cream sauce, and some scallions on top, severely lacking on even salt and pepper. Boyfriend got the beef stew, also lacking in seasoning but not nearly as disappointing as the pasta. I might give it another shot. It's still new and it's possible whoever was cooking that day wasn't on their game.

Great new find! Food was wonderful and service was friendly and welcoming. Pork and eggs with potatoes was delicious. The ciabatta bread on the club made for a perfect sandwich. We'll definitely be back.

Farm to table gem in Jackson Ward. I went for lunch today and sat at the bar. Carrie waited on me and was on point. Jason Lucy, the owner/chef came out to check on things while his wife Amanda took care of front of the house and making sure everything went smoothly. Lots of local ingredients from Virginia family farm "Monrovia Farm." I had "Baxter's Beef" sandwich and it was great. Full flavored, rich and slightly gamey slow cooked, braised, Monrovia Farm beef with melted provolone and spicy house made pickles and a whole grain mustard-ayonnaise on ciabatta! The house cut fries were some of the best I've had. A good friend told me to come get the awesome burger but the entire menu had me torn on what to order. I'll be back soon to try other items (the burger!) and also try them out for dinner. Check out Lucy's! You will be glad you did!

My wife and I attended Sunday brunch here and it fantastic! Despite there being 2 booths open, they gave us a choice to sit at the community table or the bar. A bit annoying I guess, but I understand they are trying to save some tables for bigger groups. We choose the bar, but toward the end of the meal a group of 6-7 people hovered behind us and kept reaching over our shoulders to look at the menu, hand the menu back, get there drinks, etc. We then had to listen to them complain about the place not having enough group seating. That said, it's the reason I gave Lucy's as a whole 4 stars instead of 5. The food, however, was definitely worth 5 stars. I ordered the fried catfish and grits. It was delicious! The grits and oyster/mushroom gravy complemented the breading (i think it had some cornmeal in it) of the catfish perfectly. I also ordered a bloody mary and was happy to watch the bartender add some Sriracha sauce and horseradish to the bloody mary mix (which wasn't Zing Zang like every other place uses theses days). He topped it off with a sprinkle of black pepper; It was great. My wife ordered the "breakfast" meal, which came with 2 eggs, choice of bacon or pork loin, country potatoes and sauteed arugula/cherry tomato salad. Everything, again, was fantastic. We both agreed we will be back to Lucy's for brunch again in the near future, and are definitely excited to experience their dinner.

Their burger is very good, and the inside is a huge contrast to the area in which it's situated. The staff was friendly, and the bartender (as I was alone, I took my customary seat at the bar to have dinner) made a mixed drink for a nearby patron which I was compelled to try. Rum, lime juice, mango juice and bitters (shaken, not stirred) makes a tasty concoction. Definitely worth the visit to this section of downtown Richmond to go to Lucy's.

Saturday Brunch opened at 10 AM, we arrived to an empty house at 11:00. Not a great indicator, but it was excellent. Mimosas and Bloody's were excellent and inexpensive. Brunch items were large portions, creative and original and very tasty. I would recommend and will definitely be back. We left at 12:30 and the place was half full. The decor was comfortable and the bathrooms clean and spacious.

This afternoon was my second visit to Lucy's. I brought some colleagues along, and we all agreed that the dining experience was the bee's knees. First of all, the servers are always incredibly friendly and welcoming, almost like you've just walked into their home kitchen. They are approachable and answer any and all questions with a smile. The food is excellent, and most is sourced from local farms. Today I got the HRT sandwich (House Roasted Turkey breast). It comes with avocado, house made slaw, and spicy mayo. I got a salad as my side with shallot vinaigrette. If I could have changed one thing, the shallot viniagrette wasn't to my liking but not because it was poorly made...only because I'm not a huge shallot fan but wanted to try something new. Definitely worth a try for lunch, especially if you work downtown.

I usually cut restaurant slack for service during the ever-busy Sunday brunch, but the rudeness and unkindness I experienced at Lucy's this weekend compels me to write. When we arrived at 11:, the wait staff assured me that our party of four would be seated in "20 to 25 minutes." When I double checked to say that we had two small kids and couldn't wait more than a half hour, she assured me that it would be--exact quote here!--"no problem." Well, we wound up waiting for OVER AN HOUR before we had to leave. Our kids were very well behaved the whole time but also very hungry and beginning to wimper quietly at the end. The problem was not merely patrons lingering over their meals. While we were there, we observed it took most tables over 40 minutes to receive their food. Wait staff left tables uncleared and chatted up some customers while letting others attempting to flag them down for their check. Moreover, during our whole time there, no one acknowledged us or apologized for the poor time estimate. No one asked us if we'd like a glass of water or a cup of coffee while we waited. When (after 45 minutes), I asked if I could have a piece of bread for my hungry daughter, they retrieved one. When I asked again for another one, I was told angrily that the waitress was "too busy" to accommodate her. Finally, before I left, I spoke with the owner. There were no apologies and a basic attitude of "we're busy--what do you want from us?" Okay, if that' their attitude, fair enough. But in this case, I'd ask Lucy's to please not advertise itself on Facebook as neighborly and DON'T welcome patrons and assure them you can accommodate them, when that's not the case.

Yum yum yum! I really like this place. I went shortly after they opened and everything was super together for a new place. I started with the meat and cheese plate. Instead of salami stuff it was like a tiny steak and a block of cheese. Very cool. The big bowl of comfort was sooo scrumptious.

Went here on a whim for brunch, and glad we did. This place is pretty much as good as it gets for brunch. Delicious drinks, sausage and biscuits, huevos rancheros, topped off by great service. Can't beat it.

Adorable. Friendly service. Amazing Spaghetti Squash and Avacado Meatballs. I have to say hands down best food I have had in a while. Very cute and cozy. So nice it's farm to table food. The decor is very chic and big city style. Unique to anything in the area. Will be back!

I normally do not write reviews, but have decided that authentic reviews are needed for sites like these. Our dinner at Lucy's was fantastic. The restaurants that we have come to love create a personalized experience with the cuisine. Lucy's does this quite well. There is nothing cookie-cutter at this place. From their choice of ingredients and combinations to the presentation- every entree on our table said "lovingly prepared just for you." Cheers for this fabulous place!

Loved this place! Went to brunch and was happy to be able to sit right down and not have to wait. But don't let that fool you-- there is absolutely no reason this place shouldn't be packed. Great unique food, great service, and beautiful decor. Definitely try the bacon donut holes!

Came here for lunch. So good! Have the best selection of creative, mouth watering sandwiches. Salads are great and unique. This place is a hidden gem. The atmosphere inside takes you out of richmond, especially Jackson Ward. New favorite place. Great job y'all keep up the great food!

Had lunch there recently with two others. I got the vegan meatballs and a side salad. Both were really great. My lunch mates got meat sandwiches their house made pita chips and they both enjoyed their meals too. Service was fast, attentive and friendly. The physical space is very attractive. I shall return to try their cocktails.

Overall I thought the food was good but nothing out of this world. The portion sizes are quite small for the price. The $9 corned beef appetizer was literally a 2"x1" piece of corned beef on a playing card deck sized piece of polenta, with 3 rings of onions, and tablespoon of mustard. I asked the waitress before I ordered if that and a salad was enough in place of an entree and she said yes. The salad was good but wasn't big either. I ended up having to get dessert just to be full. I wanted to contact them directly about this as I feel that appetizer needs some work and cannot find a way to do so. I did like the building and definitely suggest a reservation.

It's rare I give a restaurant five stars, but Lucy's deserves 5 plus. Today was my fourth dining experience and first for brunch. Rarely do I leave a restaurant feeling the food is better than I can make at home. Lucy's has a fabulous menu for brunch, lunch or dinner. Many times when I eat out I have only one choice as I'm allergic to fish and don't like heavy fried and overlooked food. At Lucy's there are so many awesome choices that I feel I could eat there everyday. Everything at Lucy's is farm to table and prepared like you really care. This is hands down the best food I've had since moving to Richmond four months ago. So glad you're here. You also make a great gin and tonic.
