If you like East Carolina style pork bbq, you need to go to Big Daddies!!!! It is simply the best pork bbq arouns, and as a certified bbq judge I've had my fair share of bbq. My entire family loves it, my kids have requested Big Daddies pork bbq to be served at their birthdays parties for years. And everyone who tried it asks where they can get more. We buy several pounds at a time so we always have someone hand in the freezer. I've only had a few other items from...their beef bbq, which was just ok, and their Gumbo which is amazing, but they don't always have it on the menu. A few other reviews gave mediocre ratings after eating fish sandwiches. I can't say I've tried their fish sandwich, but why would I. It's called Big Daddies BBQ, not Big Daddies Fish sandwiches. Order the pork bbq and you won't be disappointed!

Husband & I were super hungry & couldn't find anything around so we went here, which is similar to "The Cookout." Kinda nervous about it because it looked raggedy & run down. It's drive thru only & the lady was extremely nice when taking our order. I ordered the fried trout sandwich which came with fries for $5.99. My Husband order a 1/4 beef cheeseburger & it cost $1.49 for get fries with it. It took about 25 min for our food to be ready because it was cooked to order. The food smelled real real good so I was ready to eat. The fries could've used more seasoning but it was decent. My fried trout was sandwiched between 2 pieces of white bread & it looked dry. All I had was a little thing of tarter sauce to spread on between it & overall the trout tasted good & I got two pieces but would've liked if it had more sauce. My husband said his burger was "ok" but his his food was completely gone lol so it must've been decent. I would probably come here again but I know I could get a better fried fish sandwich somewhere else but customer service was really nice and expect to be waiting awhile. I'm not sure if this place gets much business, I never see cars here but still try it out.

BBQ ok. Portion size, minuscule at best. Mac & cheese costs $2.99 for a small and believe me, it's child size. I posted a pic of the container. Beef BBQ sandwich had a small amount of meat and the cole slaw was bitter. Sorry...nothing great here.

Big Daddy's BBQ? More like Second cousin twice removed from that side of your family you don't talk to too much anymore because they always bring chips to the potluck. First off, this place is a very very small shack, it's not even a restaurant; it's actually more like a drive through place, just with no indoor seating. They have two very old and poorly constructed bench tables outside for eating and there is no view at all. The workers are nice and that's probably the only good thing I have to say. I got the fried catfish sandwich. I know EXACTLY how it should taste and Comfort has definitely set the standards for this type of sandwich. It seemed like Big Daddy's either re-fried the catfish and it just didn't taste fresh. Instead of being over-seasoned it was actually just too salty... Texture was decent but just way too salty. Only reason why I went here was because it was close to my work. Definitely not coming back. P.S.- their sweet tea wasn't even homemade, it was just from a powder!

When you find this little gem, don't be in a hurry. Do get the EastCarolina style bbq sandwich. Can't make a bad choice when it comes to side dishes. Can be a little slow, but the food is hand crafted. Always a friendly face. The Bbq pork is the best on the menu. There vinegar based sauce is awesome!

Big Daddy's is amazing. Sweet Corn Fritters are to die for, go ahead and get the large. The chicken salad is awesome. The cobblers are perfect. The ribs. oh god. the ribs. Get the ribs. Do it. No hesitation. And mac and cheese. Its best to call ahead, because just like your best friend's mom's kitchen, it takes a minute and she don't cook on sundays. And every Sunday I grieve. I could eat here every day, get something different and ALWAYS be impressed. Amazing. Puts all of the other awesome bbq in richmond into a secondary category that only matters... on sundays when I can't have big daddy's.

I was lucky enough to sample some of the Texas Brisket and the Applewood Smoked Chicken Salad at the Fluvanna Farmers Market on 4/5. Both are great tasting! The Smoked Chicken Salad was our favorite. We look forward to visiting the store in Richmond very soon! Till then we will continue to pick up his great food at the Farmer's Market.
