Went here for a quick impromptu family dinner. It's not a "true" Greek restaurant, but it has a fare share of Greek food. It was quiet (for a Tuesday) and it is a quaint little place. They have traditional tables, but also some leather couch seating, which is a nice touch. The bar is really an attractive option as well, with PLENTY of TVs for watching football, etc. The food was delicious - Gyro Platter and the Souvlaki Platter. Just the right amount of food, and the tzatziki sauce is AWESOME. Some of the best I've ever had. Price was reasonable (34 bucks for 3 people) and this included an adult beverage. Seeing as it was really slow in there, the service was a tad slow, but not awful by any means. Always nice to sit by the window and look out over Lake Anne, one of the great reasons to live in Reston.

Very pretty outside seating on the Lake Anne harbor especially at night. I am not sure why this is a Greek restaurant because there are not many greek items on the menu. Maybe they want to be Italian? (: The service was good and I can give my food 3 stars. We had the Greek salad with chicken, it was fresh, large and tasty. The pizza was thin crust and only worth 2 stars to me. Decent beer selection. The feature Dog Fish Head and Bells besides the yellow water beers.

I had lunch at Kalypso's with my family on a laid back Sunday afternoon. We were all hungry and excited to dine outside by the lake on a beautiful day. We were seated right away by a friendly German hostess and it just went downhill from there on. We never even saw our waiter until we flagged down a busboy for some water. When we finally got some water our waiter showed up and took our order. He expressionlessly stared at the ground the whole time (I could not tell if it was just a bad day or poor training, or both). While we were waiting for our food to arrive, I heard the couple next to us complaining about how long they had been waiting for their food. I think they were lucky their server was actually around to even hear their complaints because we hardly saw ours. Any visible waitstaff sat at empty tables in the restaurant and did not bother to check on any of the tables for extended periods of time. We saw a family yelling across the restaurant to grab their waiter's attention to get their check. I had at least hoped that the food would make up for the terrible service. For the appetizer we ordered the trio dip--warm pita and hummus, tzatziki, and feta spread. The hummus was good and the tzatziki tasted fresh, but the feta spread was so unbearably salty that it was inedible. While we were still eating, the waiter tried to take away our plates without even asking if we were finished (we wanted to keep the hummus for the gyro and souvlaki). I ordered the souvlaki sandwich and my flavorless pork was so dry I could barely chew it. The mixed green salad was just a plate of limp iceberg lettuce drenched in dressing. The linguini cypriana had skimpy portions of overcooked shrimp covered in mild tomato paste. I really wanted to like this restaurant but it just left a bad taste in my mouth.

When we approached this restaurant, we were greeted by a very friendly hostess. She promptly sat us and gave us our menus. After sitting around and deciding what we wanted, we all realized that we hadn't seen a waiter yet, not even to take drink orders. After asking around, we eventually had a server come to our table. He mumbled to us with a very somber disposition and took our orders. He came back with some bread (which was decent but cold) Eventually, the entrees arrived after taking a relatively long time (even though the restaurant only had a handful of patrons, if that). The gyro I ordered was pretty unremarkable while also a bit too salty. The tzatziki that came with the gyro was good (probably the best thing served at the restaurant). The pasta dish we ordered was somewhat adequate, but nothing worth noting (portions were small as well, especially considering the price). Overall, this place was not really worthwhile as the food was mediocre at best and the service was slow and dull.

Excellent food, but disorganized and clueless front of house. My husband and I had dinner there recently for the first time. The food was delicious, but the lone inexperienced waiter was in desperate need of training and help. A man we assumed was the owner or manager pitched in to help serve, but that was not enough. It took a very long time for our drinks and food to arrive. When we finished our meal, the check was brought to us without anyone asking if we wanted coffees or dessert, which we gladly would have tried. There weren't that many people there, so the slow and inconsistent service seemed the result of disorganization and lack of experience. We really want this place to succeed, but it is doomed unless they get a competent manager and wait staff.

I've heard from others that the food here is a mixed bag, but we found a variety of items (entrees, pizza and appetizers) all of good quality during a recent visit. And the location is great, especially the outdoor seating when there's live music and people strolling along the plaza. The one thing that other reviewers have said that we'll echo is that the service leaves a lot to be desired -- we wound up waiting more than 30 minutes for the check. To be fair, the restaurant is still relatively new and it was packed the night we went, but they need to work the bugs out on the table service soon.

This is a great restaurant. Fabulous food and the servers work very hard to make sure you are happy. My networking group just held a luncheon there and the owner not only made all the food she worked with us to make sure we were happy. From menu selection to formatting the room she met all of needs and exceeded our expectations. If you have had a bad experience in the past I urge you to give this place another chance.

Best Greek/Mediterranean in the area as said in some of the other reviews the Taziki sauce is fantastic!! Tried a bunch off the menu but my go to is chicken kabob or souvlacki but really cant go wrong with anything. Service is always a lil slow but the food/atmosphere is worth the lack of attention from the servers. Would and have recommended to family/friends and we all share the same feeling:)

This is the space that was once occupied by "Tavern on the Lake" which while it was once a really good spot, deteriorated quickly as the owners ran out of money, and the last six months of its existence, the food was inedible. Kalypso's is a mighty big improvement. They redid the bar itself and it just feels a lot better, a lot more light coming in. They cut out the "bar lounge" that had been put in by Tavern and replaced it with an open area leading to a waiting area lounge which fits the layout much better and makes it look like less of a townie bar than it once was. Food... I've been very impressed by everything I've had there. Gyro is good, not the best, but the pita bread and tzatki are superb. Pizza is the highlight for me actually.. I love love love their pizza. Great soft dough, crispy, and thin.. very similar to Joe's Pizza and Pasta in Vienna. Spicy Feta is my favorite appetizer by far. Drinks.. yeah, they're overpriced compared to some bars. Let's remember though that Reston is not exactly a poor area, and the rent reflects that for these businesses. Cafe Momar about 3 restaurants down charges more than them, and they own their space and have for years. But compare it to an equal restaurant in Town Center such as Clyde's or M&S, they're about the same I'd say. I think this place is absolutely fantastic when it's warmer out and you can sit outside, the bar can seem a little crowded quickly and I've never dined in the dining room, but it does look really nice. The people running this place are extremely genuine and great people.

Worst experience ever! I went there on a Friday night with my boyfriend for dinner. First off they sat us outside and no one came up to us for about 15 minutes then we got our food and never saw our server again! I kept seeing him across the way cleaning up tables and sweeping. He definitely forgot about us. My boyfriend had to go to the Manager and ask for our server. The Manager didn't apologize for the lack of service. I thought that we should have gotten something taken off our bill and we did not. So all and all worst experience I have ever had! I will never go back! It's unfortunate because I live so close and I like that it is on the water.

I went here for the first time with my kids (9 and 7). The lakeside location is nice, although I could have done without the smokers. The kids ordered the kids' burgers, which was a generous portion, and the fries were good. I ordered a greek salad, which was OK. It came without dressing, then they put a LOT of dressing on without mixing it in. I ordered a cucumber mojito, which sounds great...but it was GROSS! My son said his Sprite tasted funny. I think I might go back because of the location, but I'll read the reviews before I decide what to order. They have a lot of greek items, bar fare, and the wait staff speaks Spanish, so perhaps there's just an identity crisis.

Full disclosure: my sister works at this place, but I don't get here very often. I had a very nice experience here last time. I think it had a rough start, but things seem to be running pretty smoothly now. It's good seeing some new life on the plaza--the entire patio was full for Father's Day. The menu has a lot of great vegetarian options and is reasonably priced. Greek appetizers like hummus, falafel, and spanakopita are excellent. The hummus and falafel tasted freshly made. Last time I got the pasta basilico, which is in a flavorful tomato sauce with feta and olives for a Greek twist. The salad that came with the meal was very fresh and contained a good mix of greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, and parsley. Saganaki: your server will secretly hate you if you order it, but it's good. They also kept a reasonable distance between flaming cheese and my head, which has been a problem at other Greek restaurants. Overall I recommend it for a healthy Mediterranean meal with a view. I think they've worked through the service issues. Support a non-chain restaurant and get away from the Town Center crowds.

Went here for game 3 of the caps bruins playoffs. Very quiet maybe, 7 other people there. Was expecting a larger crowd for caps home playoff game. Nice big HD flat screens all over. Was excited about the game day menu which included .50 cent wings and other bar food for around 5 bucks, BUT the deal only lasts as long as the 1ST period or quarter( NBA, NFL). Surprised and dissapointed over that, but the 2.50 miller lite tall boys an 7 buck Bombay quickly made me forget I was hungry

The food is okay. The service is absolutely horrendous. We were asked to close our tab with the swing shift bartender before our food even arrived, despite the fact that she was still there when we left. Normally this wouldn't be a problem except that my boyfriend sat for 20 minutes without a beverage after having finished his food and despite the fact that three different bartenders walked by several times each without stopping. The prices were sort of absurd considering the fact the fact that we ordered off the happy hour menu, walked out sober and remained fairly angry for the entire experience. My advice is to avoid this place at all costs. It kills me to think that I actually felt compelled to return there after three previous, equally unpleasant experiences. It's really too bad too, because sometimes all you want to do is go somewhere besides the town center.

Holy Greek-themed dive bars, Batman! What do we have here, in the "old" school part of Reston. Kalypso's is the latest incarnation of a place that was once called.......I lost track. Restaurants don't seem to make it here. But for an authentic, grungy happy hour, this place does the trick. Greek food is not exactly my favorite while enjoying microbrews, which Kalypso's has a good supply of. Skip the food, load up on the beers. And don't fall into the lake on your way out.

Okay so this is bizarre... I went to dinner with my husband and two kids on 8/19. We sat outside under an umbrella but at the edge of the right side of the restaurant so we were only partially covered. A storm started to brew so it got a little windy. A gush of wind came by and all of these little white flakes fell all over us and our food. The waiter saw us examining them and came over. He said "Oh, that happens all the time, something is blowing off the roof when it gets windy." The closer I looked at it, it was paint chips! I told the waiter this and he said "No, it's not paint chips, there's just gravel up there." I said "Well, whatever it is, I'm sure it's not edible." and he replied "Well no one's ever gotten sick." WHAT?! I told the manager about this and he took the food off our bill since we quit eating at that point. He should have taken the last round of drinks off too since there were paint chip floating in them. Crazy! I would never go back. And yes it was PAINT CHIPS! I examined the ones in my hair when I got home.

Scammed! We ordered two glasses of rose, assuming like any where else that we would get their house wine. The waiter did not ask what brand and came back with a whole bottle. I decided we would probably have ordered another couple of glasses anyway so I didn't say anything. When the bill came though, they charged us $110. The most expensive wine on their wine list is only $60. The manager claimed that this is the only rose they carry. He said the only thing he could do was discount the price to $90. When I travel overseas, this is one of the scams you watch out for. I never would have thought I would have to watch for this in Reston, VA!

ive given this place a few chances and am let down time after time. first time i was there the bar tender seem to be on drugs (which i later found to be true from another bar tender working there). my last encounter there was the worst of all, i went with my girlfriend to grab a few drinks. there was a table of females next to us when a guy comes up to them and starts insulting them, after a few minutes of overhearing this my girlfriend tells him to stop. he proceeds to spit in her face and push her to the ground. a second later the owner (i think, but very mean lady that is always yelling at the staff) comes out and tries to start a fight with my girlfriend saying shes causing problems and that we need to leave (all this after spending $100+ on drinks) will never be back the kalypso's even though its a 2 min walk from my apt.

Went on a thursday to hang out and smoke some hookah, it's in a good location and open late. the hookah was $15 and i was pleased with the quality however the service was pretty bad.

I just moved to reston and really wanted this place to be good as I am looking for an alternative to the overpriced places in Reston Town Center. I love Town Center, but I want alternatives and being able to walk to Kalypso's was a great one. I see a theme through all of these reviews and apparantly the management is clueless or has never seen these as I had an equally dissapointing experiance. I ordered the burger as I thought it would be safe...it is a frozen patty deal, which can be good...I have managed several restaurants and owned one and there are some decent frozen products out there...but they burned this one to a crisp...I ordered it mid well...the fries were good, the lettuce, onion and tomato were very fresh. Service: The bad service is a common theme...this is because all of the servers are drunk. I observed every single person behind the bar consuming alcohol early in the evening onward. The tall galunck with the earrings kept bouncing the mixing cup off of the floor and then USING IT! He did not catch it one time and it rolled about the floor, he picked it up, and immediately mixed a marg in it...DISGUSTING!! He kept bouncing the mixing cup off of the floor throughout the evening. He and several others also kept dipping glassware into the icebin...a big NONO! Those that actually used the ice scoop kept throwing it back into the ice bin...again disgusting. Think about it...cross contamination everywhere. If they are that careless out front, just think of what is going on in the kitchen. I hate giving bad reviews as I know how hard it is to keep a restaurant and its employees under control...but these people just do not care. I only gave it two stars because ONE bartender...with crazy big brown curly hair like a fro (which was awesome) is the only employee who actually asked me if I would like anything...the only one who asked if I would care for another drink, and was attentive to other customers. There was also a sad DJ setting up when I could take no more and he had 1 (one) speaker. This place COULD be awesome. The atmosphere is conducive to a great evening and the setting could not be better. They need management and accountability. I will not go back, as much as I want it to be my hangout I cannot take the health risk.

I am not sure what Frank W. is talking about the menu is full of Greek items. They have the best Lemon Chicken Rice Soup, Avegolemono! (Not sure the spelling of it in Greek) Our server, Andrew, was outstanding! I will have to say that the Hummus and meat marinades are super garlic-y. I did see the Italian items on the menu but I am glad that they have a variety in case you go with someone who doesn't like Greek food.

I have never been to a restaurant that had a ruder staff. The hostess was short with me, and then told one of the waiters to take care of me because she was too busy. The confused waiter thought that I wanted to order to go, when all I wanted was to be seated! (Isn't that the hostess job?!?). I was finally seated, without menus. 10 minutes later, someone stopped bsy to give me a complimentary water. 10 minutes after that, a waitress stopped by and asked if someone had helped me. I said no. She asked what I would like for dinner...I told her that I STILL hadn't seen a menu! She got me a menu and told me she'd be back in 2-3 minutes. 10 minutes later, she took my order. For the rest of the meal, the waitress rarely came back. We had to walk to the bar for refills, while our waitress stood ten feet away in conversation with another customer for 30 minutes. I arrived at 730 and didn't leave until nearly 10. The Greek salad was flavorless, slimy, small, and unimpressive. The grilled shrimp on it was fairly decent. It's sad because the place looks nice but is all-around unimpressive. Even the bathrooms. The stalls were dirty and both out of toliet paper. They didn't have paper towels. Sitting outside near the outdoor herb boxes was nice...until you get bitten by ants through the entire meal. Don't they spray? The table next to me was equally as annoyed. The waiter messed up their drink order and annoyed them. HIRE A BETTER STAFF! Or at least TRAIN this one better, they are NOT good at being hospitable. And when your first impression is a rude hostess, that's a bad start. I have had better food and service at chain restaurants!

I am sorry to say that I am revising my review of Kalypso's. They have been open for about a month now - and I have to say - I am disappointed. We went there twice this weekend, and spent a lot of time waiting, and waiting, and waiting. We weren't even ordering food - just sitting at the bar! With the exception of one bartender, everybody in the restuarant seems to be more interested in talking to eachother than waiting on clients. Really - we come here to eat and drink - not to watch the staff chit-chat it up. So when we walk in, please be polite to us. When we order a drink and water, bring us both the drink and the water. When you see our drink or water is starting to look low - at least come over and ask us if we are doing OK - or if we would like another round... I REALLY want you to succeed - but man, if there are more staff than patrons and the service is still crappy - you know something is wrong. -------- Kalypsos just opened this weekend, and though I haven't had a chance to try out there food yet, I am a huge fan of the place. Finally something is back in this beautiful spot on Lake Anne - and this place hits the spot. The bartending staff is awesome, the menu looks delicious, the view is awesome, the set-up inside is great. They have about 10 HUGE flat screen TVs set up to show sporting events, two bar areas, a 'lounge' seating area, and indoor and outdoor seating areas. I am very excited for this new addition to Lake Anne!

First off, the only reason we went was for sitting on the patio over looking the Lake Anne harbor. Great view. We had low expectations for the food as it's a "sports bar." We got salads and some drinks. The food wasn't great, but it wasn't too bad. The service was pretty poor. Our sever almost seemed scared to come up to the table.

Why did I give it two stars? Here is my reasoning. This restaurant is situated in a nice little area by Lake Anne in Reston, but is getting run down as business is definitely going down for all the retail in this building area as most shops are closing down. Many were not even open on a Sunday. We went here for a late lunch and they had the largest area for outdoor seating and people were eating there so we decided to try it as we did want to sit outside. This is a meditteranean restaurant which is what we were kind of in the mood for. We walked in to get a table and the waiters and host just looked at us and walked around for 5 minutes before deciding that they wanted to come to us and ask us if we wanted a table(first bad sign). After we mentioned we wanted to sit outside, they took us to a table that was not cleared off but still had all the dirty plates, glasses, ashtry with ashes on the tablecloth and had not been wiped down(second bad sign). Then we waited for a bit before the server(who was very nice throughout our lunch and very attentive to our needs and really tried to make it a positive experience. He took our food order which was a simple salad and a gyro sandwich. We enjoyed the day, but after a while it got annoying as we were getting hungry and so much time had passed and we asked for our food, 45 minutes later(after our order was placed) the food finally came out. Of course, i was already on edge because I saw no reason for the delay(third bad sign). We tried the food, my friend said the salad was ok but it look like it douced in some strange dressing and then slices of grilled chicken on top?? strange. Then my gyro sandwich had feta and i saw it as soon as it came, and i mentioned it, and he is like let me fix it, and i could have let him, but i didnt know what that meant. Were they going to scrape it off, lick my food, or remake it, neither option was good since it already took 45 minutes for it to come out so i took the feta out myself. When I actually bit into the sandwich I found that the gyro meat was not fresh and actually was grilled multiple times as it had grill burns(when meat is prepared and refrigerated, and then grilled again), not to mention the gyro meat was EXTREMELY SALTY whereby i had drank multiple glasses of water and few glasses of soda. Now in regards to the soda, i ordered coke. we all know that many restaurants have fountain drinks which is fine, but what i didnt understand is why the consistency of the flavor was different each of the three times i received my coke?? it was as if they changed the soda concentrate going into my soda each time with different flavors. definitely a place i will not go again to eat. Its possible I end up here for drinks by the water but not for a meal.

My husband and I visited this restaurant Greek reported in the Lake Anne Plaza in Reston. No one greeted us or gave us menus until asked. The salads were great, the lamb chops were tough, the baklava was the worst ever. . .chewy and tough and allegedly made by the owner. The Alfredo sauce was not even warm and quite runny. The waiter Isaiah was a smooth operator but insincere in his manners, words, and service. What a horrible place!

Came here the other day when the weather was beautiful and I really wanted to sit outside with a drink. The service was absolutely appalling. Took forever to get our server to come by and take our order. When he finally came by to take our drink order, they didn't have what I wanted so I took a look at the wine menu while the person I was with ordered his drink. When he was finished I started to say what I wanted and the server just walked away, I guess he thought that I wasn't planning to get anything? it was kind of strange. Fast forward ten, fifteen minutes and our server hasn't been back. We noticed that two tables nearby who were seated moments after us were already getting appetizers, but we couldn't even get our drinks or a chance to order food. We flagged down a separate server as she walked by and asked if we could order since our waiter was not attentive. She took my drink and appetizer order. The drinks finally showed up. After we had been there for 45 minutes and noticed that everyone around us was eating their meals and we hadn't even seen our waiter to order our meals we decided to call it a day. The waiter brought out our appetizer and we told him we were leaving due to the lack of service and the look on his face indicated that he was stunned and had no clue. No apology either. The manager came out, and honestly I think this explained it. He sort of bumbled an apology but gave no explanation and seemed very aloof.

I really wanted to like this place. It's clean and vibrant, aesthetic, and has a great location overlooking Lake Anne. I was hoping to make this a place I go to regularly. It is that nice there. And then my wife and I ate there tonight. It's a good thing they have the view, because the food is mediocre and the service is horrible. After being seated and taking our order, our waitress disappeared. After waiting a long time (I admit I didn't keep track, but it was definitely too long), we had to actually request our meal from the hostess because we couldn't find our waitress (I did look). Luckily the hostess could find her, and ironically our food just finished after we asked about it. She still skipped giving us one salad that we ordered though. After the meal was delivered, our waitress disappeared again. This seemed to be a recurring problem because the table next to us had the same issue, and they got the manager to wait on them. This time I did keep track though, and 15 minutes after finishing we finally had to request our check from a busser. The bussers were doing an excellent job there clearing tables and refilling water. The waitress never checked on us the entire time. To add insult to this, we were overcharged. I was going to leave a symbolic $1 tip, but then the waitress wouldn't bring me a pen to sign the credit card slip! So she missed out on a whole dollar and didn't seem to care. The food was ok but not great. The lamb was cooked well, but the pasta and sauce were bland. As we were leaving, we overheard a waitress on the floor within earshot of patrons complaining about something in the kitchen. The best thing I can say about this place is that it has no where to look but up.

The food was excellent here and the service equally great. It's nice to have Greek as a new selection for the Lake Anne area. Our servers were very attentive and the outdoor seating made for a very relaxing meal. Inside there's a nice sports bar area and beyond that a small loungy area and nicer indoor dining. Like a few other reviewers, I was happy to see this great location at Lake Anne occupied and open for business. A sports tavern wasn't a concept I was excited about, but I was optimistic that the setting and some Greek food would make me an occasional customer. My wife and I went for a late Friday afternoon lunch. There were a few customers in the bar area but no one on the patio or the main dining room. The hostess was friendly. Our waiter was friendly and attentive, if not experienced and knowledgeable. We sat inside the restaurant, which was comfortable and clean. The menu was not as Greek as we expected, which was disappointing. There were a lot of burgers, pizza and pasta on the menu. There were several Greek appetizers, but few Greek dishes otherwise. The only Greek main dish I remember seeing was souvlaki. The lunch menu seemed to be the same as the dinner menu, and the prices were comparable to Reston Town Center restaurants. Wine by the glass was expensive, at $9-10/glass. Draft beers were $4-6. Complimentary bread and olive oil were served shortly after we were seated. The bread was sliced, room temperature, fairly soft, and fresh enough. Nothing fancy, but good. The olive oil and herb dip was very good. We enjoyed it more than the appetizers. Since we wanted to try the Greek food, we ordered three appetizers (spanakopita, taramosalata, saganaki) and a souvlaki (pork) platter, which came with a good-sized house salad. The spanakopita was very attractively served with bits of feta and snipped parsley. It was rich for us--we like more spinach taste. The taramosalata was not what I expected and not something that I would order again, but if you like taramosalata in general, you would probably like it. It is made with fish roe and is intensely fishy and salty. It was served with a good amount of Greek pita bread. The saganaki (cheese) is served flamed with brandy, table side. They are still perfecting the presentation. It was good. The souvlaki platter was a souvlaki sandwich with fries and a side salad. For $2.95 more, you can upgrade to a Greek side salad. (To turn the complimentary "mixed greens" salad into a Greek salad, all you would have to do is put a few little pieces of feta cheese and a few olives on it.) The salad contained iceberg other lettuces, a few slices of green pepper, cucumber slices, parsley, red onion, and tomato. All the ingredients were fresh. The sandwich was on pita bread and had a good ratio of meat to bread to tzatziki to lettuce. Too bad lamb was not an option. It was a well-constructed sandwich, wrapped in foil and easy to eat. Not what we expected for a platter since there is also a sandwich on the menu, but it was good. We are not crazy about fries, but they were good as well. There was no Greek coffee available. We were not offered a dessert menu. We might be back in the next few months, but the next time we want a nice Lake Anne dining experience, we are more likely to go to Cafe Montmartre.

OMG. Your signage says Kalypso Sports Tavern. You negotiate a really terrific sales price for the property. You do a wonderful job with renovations. The new lounge is lovely! You have the most beautiful view in Reston. But then...... You hire waiters/waitresses that are Goth rather than sports buff or qualified. Your entire outdoor area is full to be taken care of by one waiter and two busboys. You put a souvlaki platter on your menu and it is pork or chicken and no lamb. It takes 20 minutes to get water and asked about the menu. Your dinner is served 35 minutes later but no knife and fork. Sorry this is Reston and not amateur league. Better get it together or you will have a very very very long winter!

Living within walking distance, I had high hopes but have been disappointed here so far. I tried only the gyro platter with chicken but it was dry and the fries with it were cold (much better gyro at Roti Grill across the Plaza). I also thought the drinks were overpriced given the location. (drink pricing on-par with downtown Georgetown, not reasonable for this suburb neighborhood hole-in-the wall Lake Ann location). I experienced no problems with the service as reported by other reviewers. The space was renovated and the restaurant side is very attractive but the bar side feels sterile, lacking in atmosphere (despite the nice tv's).. Since it is called a 'sports tavern', it would be nice if they could develop the sports-bar side's atmosphere more and offer more attractive drink pricing which I think would increase repeat / regular clientele. After two visits, I stopped going there but would re-try if changes are made.

Lovely evening for al fresco dining. New arrival to Lake Anne, Kalypso's looks as though it's succeeding - a good happy crowd dining outside - but on the basis of mixed dishes tonight, I'm not yet sure. Pros: lovely lakeside setting, enthusiastic server who was still learning the ropes, reasonable price point, very family friendly - we were two but many tables with small children, all easily accommodated - and decent starters: the spanikopita was genuinely delicious; the little side salads were fresh (with dressings that were nothing special), and the soup of the day, a thick, hearty lentil, was weird for a steamy summer evening but well-seasoned and tasty nonetheless. Cons: drinks were very stingily poured - probably measured out to a "t" but that "t" was still short - standard varies, but here the wine surely wasn't 5 ounces and seemed less than 4, and my gin on the rocks made the ice glisten but I could barely discern a drink in my tumbler. Gone in a flash, needed an almost immediate refill. (And for a spot with so reasonable a price point, Kalypso seems intent on making a lot of that back up on the bar tab - mediocre wine choices at relatively steep prices for short pours.) I felt like only a sandwich and, given the spanikopita ordered earlier, thought Souvlaki would be reliable. Wrong: the skimpy serving of meat was half fat/gristle and half rubber; and the tzatziki was too thickly congealed and didn't cover well. The baby zucchini side was fine. Our other entree, scallops in a butter sauce (ordered with the baby zucchini side), was tasty and well prepared, but consisted of only 5 small pieces of an inch diameter or less, which, for 18.99, struck us as a bit dear . We like the location, and we want to give Kalypso's another shot, but I'm hoping for improvement.

My husband and I attempted to have lunch here last Sunday. The hostess seated us right away and gave us the brunch menu . We asked for the regular menu since we weren't interested in brunch at 1:00. We decided what we wanted and 20 minutes later, the waiter took our order. We waited another 10 minutes to be told that the kitchen doesn't start serving from the menu we ordered from until after 2. We were so frustrated at this point that we just left. We would really like to see this restaurant succeed because it's in such a great location but unless they work on their customer service, they won't last a year.

Another gem opens at Lake Anne! If you thought Tavern on the Lake was bad wait until you try Kalypso's Sports Tavern. My wife and I didn't get our hopes up for this place since every other restaurant to open here have been complete failures, but this place takes the cake. Let me start by saying I feel bad for the wait staff. Obviously these guys are not the brightest bulbs and have had no formal training on how to wait tables. We asked for a certain bottle of wine and the waitress said that there were only two left and that the "kitchen" said they had to save them. What?!? The bus boy brought out the bread and to our amazement there were only two slices for three people. So then we ordered our meals, my wife got the Moussaka and I got the leg of Lamb. I asked for it medium rare and the waitress said that it wouldn't be a problem. The lamb had a color of and old grey sock and taste to boot. I have never seen a cut of meat like this in my life. It looked like they left it in the oven for three hours and then microwaved it for twenty minutes. I'm really not the one to complain because I have worked in restaurants, but this was ridiculous. I asked the waitress to take it back and to see if I could get a piece at a medium rare. She came back and said that the "kitchen" says that they only serve it medium and if I don't like it too bad. I decided to order something else, but the waitress didn't come back for another ten minutes and my wife and daughter were done with their meals. I decided not to get anything else. After waiting another twenty minutes for my check I come to find out that they charged me for the shoe leather. I went to talk to the manager, but he saw me coming and raced back to the kitchen. While I waited for him to come out of the kitchen I over heard him talking to the kitchen staff. He goes, "If I find anymore unwashed silverware in the clean pile someone is going to get fired". How many dirty spoons and forks were set on the tables? Ugh! Needless to say the manager avoided me, so I just got some other waitress to take the meal off my bill. I was hoping that the curse would be lifted from this place, but it looks like this restaurant will be gone within six months. Great Job! If you like salt you will LOVE this restaurant.

Come here for the outside view and ambiance only. The food and service were both extremely lackluster. But that view, that view, that view! This is definiltey one of the most relaxing places around to enjoy a meal while sitting under white canopies and watching the kayaks and pontoon boats go by. My friends and I all thought it felt like being outside of the country in some small European town. If you need to get away from it all, you can find a nice little respite in Reston. Don't come hungry or you might starve. Basically the food is non-authentic Greek. It's more like cafeteria style food with poor presentation and inferior ingredients. How does a "Greek" restaurant make a unpalatable Greek salad? The lettuce was poor quality, there were only two olives on the plate, very little feta, and the dressing was horrible. Granted, Kalypsos' name says "Sports Tavern" but they also like to cross advertise as Greek. My expectations would be lower if it was simply a sports bar. My friend got the steak Greek salad and she thought it was bad too. The Grilled Chicken Kabobs over rice was suboptimal. Basically, the food is blah. The only interesting item on the menu was a beer that supposedly tastes just like root beer. I was unable to try it since it has gluten in it but I would have if I could have. Service was close to non-existent. The server took our order and we did not see her again until we had to ask someone else to find her so we could pay the bill.

I've wanted to try Kalypso since it opened at Lake Anne a few years ago and finally did last night. It was unfortunately a bit uneven (in most respects), but maybe this was due to it being a Saturday night with beautiful weather and a very packed house. So I'm not writing them off by any means, I will try them again, but probably not anytime really soon, and next time probably in the middle of the week when it's not going to be quite as busy. The food was good at times, not so good at others. We didn't order many things, but hopefully what we did will give you at least a sampling of what they offer. Prices are cheap, but they aren't unreasonable, especially given the fairly generous quantities that are provided. I ordered the falafel appetizer, which comes with tahini and a generous portion of freshly warmed pita slices. The falafels are very generous in size also. Many people would probably fill up on them and be fine without a main course, maybe just adding a side salad. I might consider that if I actually enjoyed the felafel. I really wanted to like it, as I'm a big fan of felafel and have been eating them a lot recently at various area eateries. I have to say that these were unfortunately some of my least favorite I've had. They are big and filling, but they are not very tasty to say the least. They are so big that the majority of what they consist of is the meal inside the felafel, which essentially tastes like a grain meal with maybe a tiny bit of chick pea mixed in? Not much spice or flavor in that or the tahini. Even worse, there seemed to be a very slightly bitter taste to the felafel. I don't know whether that was the tahini or the oil they used to fry the felafel in, but it made what would have been a mediocre dish into something I would never choose again unless I knew they had completely revamped their recipe... For the entree I had the Kalypso Greek Salmon. This came with a mixture of tomato, olives and feta on top of it, which was good. Not overly greasy or rich, and not piled so high that it completely took over the dish. It was also surprisingly not super salty, and the salmon didn't seem overly salted either. I need to watch my salt intake, so I appreciated that. Unfortunately, the middle of the salmon was undercooked to the point of being raw. This wasn't most of the salmon though, but maybe just the middle 20%, so technically it was even a smaller percentage that was undercooked. Still. I mentioned this to our server and asked that it be reheated. She asked if I just wanted a new fillet but I was a) almost full by then and b) didn't want to wait another 20 minutes (or more). I could have just left it but thought sending it back would potentially help the kitchen realize they might need to up the cooking time just a little. Entrees come with a house salad and I found mine to be good. The vinaigrette served was tasty and the salads were fresh and not your typical iceberg tragedy. My wife ordered a chicken kabob which she said was ok, nothing special, but decent. The rice accompanying both of our meals was good and cooked perfectly. The service, like the food, was a bit uneven. In general, the service was good. We didn't have to wait around much to order, to get our dishes, or to get the check, despite it being a very busy night. The servers were also generally very friendly and outgoing. The one issue we had though did kind of leave us on a slightly sour note. When we asked for the bill, we mentioned that we had an Entertainment card. Our server was not familiar with it, came back with an incorrect discount which had to be corrected. After that, her demeanor towards us was quite cold and unfriendly, which was not a good note to end on! One of the nicest parts about Kalypso is the atmosphere. It is friendly (the occasional hiccup as described above notwithstanding), lively, relaxing, and on a beautiful night like last night when you can eat at their outdoor tables, can be wonderfully pleasant. We saw lots of families and couples in a variety of ages, colors, etc. Some even brought their dogs to hang out with them. The only downside (in my point of view) to their atmosphere, is that Kalypso is also a bar, and I suppose because of this, there is a smoking section outdoors that, of course, can waft into the areas where no one is smoking. Unless you physically close off spaces for smoking, "sections" are really a misnomer. Smoking has become something so rare in the venues I go to that we are particularly sensitive to it and so it becomes a distraction to have to even occasionally breath this stuff in. Then again, this didn't happen throughout our entire meal, so I'm guessing it's just the luck of the draw when you go there - especially on a Saturday night. Otherwise, you do really feel like you are at some seaside town (given the proximity to the lake front) where everyone is on vacation, the large umbrellas shading the sun enough to keep you cool on a warm evening like last night.

This was some of the slowest service I have ever had at restaurant. It took 20 minutes to get salads and bread, and we had empty drinks for over 5 minutes without anyone noticing. We would have ordered more drinks...if anyone came to our table. If it was very busy I would understand, but it was not. I witnessed multiple people with the same problem, as well as the wrong food, very delayed entrees or side salads coming out a minute before the entrees. In regards to the food, it was fine but I was already not happy with the service. Oh and did I mention we saw our waitress a total of 3 times (I do appreciate the apology for not stopping by more, but unfortunately it was a little too late). The view was nice so that earned a star increase from a 1 to a 2. I will not be going back.

Having family living at Lake Anne we have been to Kalypso's several times previously and not been overly impressed. We want back again this past Saturday as one of our party of 5 expressed an interest in trying it, it is very convenient as we had another commitment in the evening and there was a rumor heard that management had changed. The best that can be said of the visit was the lovely weather and view...neither credited to Kalypso's. This was a Saturday night but it was only half full and we had no difficulty getting a table...now I know why, people choose to go elsewhere. Although everyone in our party had a different entree selection we all agreed the food was generally bland. The best that can be said of the serving staff is indifferent. Our primary server spill some of my red wine on the way to the table. He not only did not return to the bar for a fresh glass he made no attempt to wipe the spill that had run down the glass and pooled on the bottom nor wipe the mess that it created when he placed it on the table. My husband was serve his soda water in a plastic glass you would expect from a fast food restaurant and it was only half full. None of our party were ever asked if we cared for an add'l beverage when our glasses were empty. Three of our party ordered appetizers that were served well after our salads with our entrees arriving almost immediately thereafter. Their option being to wolf down the appetizer, having a cooled entree or requesting items returned to the kitchen. Fortunately, with all the dining choices in the immediate Reston area we need not look to Kalypso's again.

If it wasn't for the location on the lake and view this place would be closed!! Went for an event, patio seating was cramped and the layout inside was even worse. It took forever to get a server's attention. I asked for hot wings and was served wings with a creamy disgusting white sauce. It tasted like the wings were flash fried instead of fully cooked. The drinks were weak and my overall experience was not good. No tissue in the ladies room, There is potential at this location but it requires a staff and facility makeover!!! I not be visiting again

The food here is AMAZING! Its a chill location to go to with family or friends. I love that you can sit either inside or out. Its clean which for me is always important and the staff is charming. My husband and I had dinner here when the weather was nasty. It was nice to be welcomed in - the dining room was empty, as everyone with smarts, was at home keeping warm. We were craving Greek food, so we ordered the spanakopita and the gyro platter. Everything came picture perfect and was good to eat. The spanakopita didn't seem to be homemade, just well made, store bought fare. The platter had a good amount of food, maybe a little more greens than we expected but the gyro meat was tasty and not chewy or overcooked. The fries also seemed store bought, but well made - they were not soggy nor burnt. The service was a little bit slow considering we were the only ones in the dining room area, but we didn't mind, we were grateful that Kalypso's was open.

Decent food, though my salmon lacked seasoning. I was able to season it okay, and the salad wasn't overdressed, which I appreciate. So many places just drown their salads in dressing, when less is more. Hubby's souvlaki platter was tasty and plentiful. Service is slow, but we weren't in a rush. We had our dog with us, and though our hostess put us at the sunniest table in the place, the waitstaff were very nice and brought water, treats and attention to our dog. Made up for the sunburn I got after an hour in the direct sunlight. My only real complaint was the terrible blueberry sangria. Pretty tasteless and overpriced at $11.95. I could have sent it back, so my fault for keeping it; I was thirsty and not feeling like reordering. But I'd never drink it again. Great place to laze away an early dinner evening outside. Will come back, but will leave our dog at home so we can get a better table.

This is my second time eating here in about 4-5 years. The first time horrible and yup the second was just as horrible. I remember the service being very slow and unprofessional. This time the service was no existent. I ordered the fish tacos. Which were nasty. There was something definitely wrong with the fish. I ended up having to spit the first bit out. They did comp my entree but it took over 15 minutes just to settle our bill. It is a total shame this place is so bad. It occupies such primo real estate. The staff, from when we entered to when we left was amazing; everyone was incredibly inviting and easy to talk to. Our server Jeff was AWESOME. He checked on us when we needed him to then left us to have our date night dinner just the two of us. At the end of our amazing pasta dinner Jeff came over to our table and talked to us like old friends. What a wonderful way to end our amazing meal. To top it off the owner Vicky stopped by to say hi and chatted, that's so rare these days to meet such a personable group of people. My boyfriend and I will most definitely be returning there for more date nights in the future. Excellent job Kalypso!!!

Great for watching football on Sundays! They have the NFL Sunday Ticket and 30+ TVs, plus a great "game day menu." The gameday menu has $.50 wings which are very meaty and come in a variety of flavors. They have other great deals like a $5 burger + fries, and nachos, but you should try their wings. Besides coming to watch games, they have great outdoor seating and fantastic Greek food. I would recommend the Gyro platter (comes with bread, salad, the Gyro, and fries). They also have the best hummus I've ever had. Look out for them on Specialicious (like Groupon) because they have a lot of $15 for $30 deals. Definitely worth checking out!

I had high hopes for this restaurant, since people in Reston reference it all the time and it looks really nice inside. We went there for my birthday and while our waiter was unbelievably awesome, the food was just "meh." We went at normal dinner time and the entire dining area was empty which was weird; just people on the other side in the bar area. It would've been a romantic and nice setting except being the only ones there in this giant room made it kind of a buzzkill. We may go back here to try it for a more casual, lunch-time experience but it was pretty disappointing.

We had an enjoyable lunch today at Kalypso's...having a restaurant nearby with a view of the water is a rarity in Northern Virginia so it was really pleasant to sit in the outside dining area and take in the great view of Lake Anne. Our food was pretty good and we found the service to be without issues. The manager was quite attentive; adjusting our slightly rocky table and making sure we got our meal served without any undue delay. We will definitely be back!

Stopped in while we are the Farmers Market for some brunch. We started with the triple dip plate that has hummus, Tzatiki, and Spicy feta served with flat bread. It was excellent! We then both had a breakfast skillet that was by far the best I've ever had. Cooked on a cast iron skillet so it crusts the bottom of the eggs....Money!! Will definitely go back to try other items on their menu. Service was great and the outdoor seating are was large and shaded. We really enjoyed it.

My wife and I hosted a wedding rehearsal dinner at Kalypso's on Friday, March 27. We had 35 people there. Everything about the night was awesome. The staff was attentive, gracious, fun. We were all treated as well as I could have ever imagined. And the food was spectacular. Beef kabobs, Brandy Chicken and the grilled shrimp were all perfect. And you must try the calamari I had stopped in the day before to finally see the place for the first time (since it was all planned without ever seeing it). Nick the bartender was very knowledgeable when I asked about the beers. Thanks for introducing me to the DeChutes Fresh Squeezed IPA (I finally remembered the name)! And having a beer and pizza outside by the lake is a great way to spend some time. And a HUGE thanks to the server who dealt with my mother in law and her allergies. That can be a trying experience and it was handled quite graciously. And for getting the NCAA games on the right TVs for some fans. And thanks to Vicky and Kevin. I had been in touch with Kevin via e-mail to arrange the whole event. He understood what we wanted to do and made it all happen. He even sent me pictures of the place to know what the layout was like. It was the easiest event I've ever planned. A huge thanks to all the staff at Kalypso's for making the night one to remember. I can't recommend this place enough.

Server recommends a wine then takes a half hour for it to arrive at the table once my meal was done. I had to get the wine myself. Fish tacos have no flavor & I asked why do they come with a curry sauce. Waiter has no idea and doesn't find out. My table listened to the wait staff talk about another table wondering who's table it was. They resolved to wait until someone complained before addressing the patrons. No wine with my meal & my water was empty too. I could have sooner filled my cup from Lake Anne than summoned the waiter to refill my cup. We opted for ice cream elsewhere afterwards.

Wed 12 Nov. "Thirst & Theology" group from St Anne's Episcopal meets at Kalypso the second Wed of each month. 22 persons showed up for the Nov meeting. This a record. Kalypso handled the descent of this crowd with good grace and aplomb. There was already a group there for pizza and beer. Our group arrived and the kitchen was (probably) slammed. They handled it well, delivered good food and drink and left everyone happy. Kudos to Kalypso!

I used to like to frequent Kalypso's. However: This past week will be my last visit. We sat in the "outside bar area" which meant that table regular servers did not assist us with ordering. Instead, one of the bar tenders was helping us. I understand that it might have been a difficult serving situation, but there isn't an excuse for neglect of nearly 1/2 hour chunks of time as well as needing to close inside. A couple days later my party and I noted that there were adjustments to our tip after we signed the slips. Yikes. This behavior likely not his first time adjusting tips, just the first time he got caught. My advice: Stay away from this establishment. They said they'd refund the portion of the tip to my card, but they have yet to do so. I don't believe that this establishment is worth your trust.

This place is great! Hidden gem in old Reston. Cheers like watering hole with good Mediterranean food. Great place to hang out and drink in the summer and enjoy the lake view. Ruben sandwich is awesome so are the Charbroiled oysters.

I went to this restaurant a couple weeks ago . The TVs are everywhere and that's one good thing about this restaurant. I ordered chicken wings as an appetizer , and it took more than 20 minutes to come. The buffalo sauce was a bit nasty , it had a weird taste and the chicken was over-cooked. The server was a bit rude about it , and I didn't appreciate that. My glass of water was empty all the time , although it was slow and not too many people were there.

Kalypso's has a little bit of everything for everyone. There's the lounge area inside, a sports bar, and then a large outdoor patio area facing Lake Anne. I've mostly only experienced eating dinner on the patio area, but the sports bar looks like fun as well. The past few times I've gone to Kalypso's I've been pleastly surprised that the food is quite good and they give ample portions. My son's child size pizza was so big (and yummy!) that I took his leftovers home for lunch the next day. My mussels were good as well. I'd like to go back to watch a game one day. This is a good alternative to going to Reston Town Center (and more scenic).

I threw my girlfriend a surprise birthday party here last Friday! First off let me begin by saying how accommodating and wonderful everyone from owner, to gm to staff was. The food was awesome, they didn't hassle us when we wanted 20+ separate checks. They let us take over a section inside so we can dance/party. Overall it was a great experience! On a side note: I have been coming here for years (it was actually where I took my girlfriend on our first date). It's what I call the best kept secret in northern Virginia. I had never gone here having walked by for years and never thinking much of the place. But on an office outing the location was chosen by co-workers. The view was nice and the food was only ok, but the service was awful. The service was soooo slow, water was not replenished when needed, the food took forever, even with several people drinking ice tea we had to get up and get the sugar from the tray at the waiter station because we asked for it and it had been 20 minutes and it still had not come. The appetizer with the three dips came without spoons, when we asked for spoons we got forks. My fish and chips also could have used lemon but after waiting for the sugar I decided not to ask. The only nice thing about this place is the outdoor seating, although the couch I sat on needed to be replaced. If the food and service improved, this would be a nice place to go.

Overall, I really enjoy Kalypso's. It's my favorite place to watch sports in the Reston area by far. They have at least 15 televisions, you're game is guaranteed to be on at least one of them. Most of the waitstaff and bartenders are great, I've never had a bad service experience there. During the warmer months it's really nice to be able to sit outside by the lake and enjoy a drink. Both the interior and exterior eating area are very nice looking. The reason I give it 4 stars as opposed to 5 is sometimes the food can be VERY salty. I've eaten there many times, so at this point I know what to order and what not to order. I've tried the lasagna and the macaroni and cheese, both were generously portioned but overwhelmingly salty! The buffalo chicken dip was also way too salty. However, they really do have some good food options. My boyfriend and I love their wings, nachos, gyro sliders, and french fries. I also enjoy their Greek food options, which are probably superior to the American options.

Lake Anne is the original RTC and therefore often overlooked. Perhaps that is one of the reasons I keep coming back time after time. Kalypso's is by no means an amazing restaurant. They churn out good food at good prices. The service is hit or miss and the reason for only three stars. While the wait staff is generally friendly the service is unbearably slow. The major redeeming quality is the lovely outdoor patio. Also you can often find Robert E. Simon (Reston's founder) dining here as he lives at Lake Anne.

Our small Red Hats group went last night for dinner. I never think of Lake Ann as a place to go for dinner. This restaurant is hidden if you don't know the area. They have a lovely outdoor area with a view of the lake and fountain. Very pleasant evening to sit outside. The thing that bothered me was that the staff was spraying shellac over the corn hole boards right next to the dining area and the smell was a bit overwhelming at first. The menu has lots of choices - they lean toward Greek and Mediterranean food. Nice choices of wine and prices were reasonable. They were very accommodating to our request for separate checks. I had the Kalypsos Grilled Shrimp. It comes with rice, vegetable of day and a salad. I asked asked if rice could be replaced by additional veggies since I can't eat rice. The server told me that I would need to pay extra. I never understand that, but decided to just leave rice off the plate. The meal was delicious. One person had the Gyro platter and loved it. Another had the mussels with linguini and truly enjoyed them. One person had the seafood dinner special and said it was delicious. I must say the server needs to learn how to serve. We were at a round table with plenty of room around us. The server leaned across the table to hand out meals. That is so not right especially when there is room to move around. Of course, he did looked so uninterested in his job that he probably would not care to learn how to do it right. The other little thing that bothered me is our waiter never asked if we wanted coffee or dessert. He just brought us our checks like its time for you to be done. So although he probably could have had a bit more added to the bill, we did not even ask for anything more. Would I try this restaurant again? Yes I would and I would hope to sit outside again.

I dined here back in April when I was nearby for work and needed a quick meal but didn't feel like driving over to Reston Town Center. Boy what a mistake. From the moment I walked in, I had my doubts. The floor (inside, not the patio) was COVERED in half-eaten food and there were stains on many of the waiters' aprons and shirts. I figured maybe they had a messy school group or family just leave and hadn't cleaned up yet, so I decided to give them a shot based on good reviews I had seen. The bread was cold and tasted like it was something frozen they had thawed out, the tzatziki and pita was average and could have just as well been store bought, and my alfredo pasta dish with shrimp had some of the most overcooked shrimp I have ever had it in. The pasta was way too al dente and the sauce itself was lumpy and tasted rough, like they didn't properly mix the flour in. Oh, and they made zero attempt to clean up the dirty floor while I was there even though only one other table was occupied and they had at least 5 servers aimlessly hanging around. I will definitely not be going back. Pretty gross and I'm surprised I didn't get sick from the food.

First the good. Nice atmosphere. Generally a nice experience. However several days ago I ordered the half rack of ribs. What was provided for my entree was 5 bones worth of ribs. Scarcely a quarter to a third of a rack. Not a bit more. There was an appetizer portion on the same menu which I can only imagine as "laughable". The ribs were tasty! I pointed out the portion size to the server who said that she mentioned my dissatisfaction to the cook and the manager and that was that. Prior to posting this on Yelp, I sent a note via the Kalypso website describing my experience and after a week, nothing in reply. So here it is folks. Don't order the half rack of ribs. It is a complete LIE. It is a RIP OFF and lastly, management doesn't appear to care or can't be bothered to respond. There are other choices at Lake Anne. Pass this place up if you care about quality, honesty, and customer care in a restaurant....

I had two very good experiences recently. I came here with a big group for lunch and back again later with a friend for dinner another time. Both times were pretty great and I had very attentive service. Nice atmosphere, pleasant lakeside view outside, and generous portions of food. The food is very, very good if you like Mediterranean. The appetizers were exceptional, salads satisfying (huge shrimp on my salad!), and the pizzas others ordered also looked great. I think this place is a great alternative to Reston Town Center, more peaceful, and even on a weekend, there was no wait!

A nice change of pace in Reston. This is an independent restaurant and bar. The restaurant is connected to the bar but far enough away that you don't get the noise even on NFL game day. Went there to meet a friend on New Years day for lunch. It's upscale casual and a nice sized dining room with a view of the lake I had the special which was a nice sized greek salad with grilled salmon. It was excellent! The salad was fresh,with quality ingredients and the salmon was a nice generous portion with excellent flavor. The service was great though it wasn't crowded. This would be a great place to dine outside when the weather suits.

I unfortunately must agree with the majority of the reviews on Yelp and Urbanspoon about this place being lousy overall are not unfounded. We never checked these before going as we were attending NoVA Magazines BBQ Brawl event there at Lake Anne and after the tastings decided to get off our feet, cool off under their umbrellas and have an early evening meal... big mistake. We only chose Kalypso, because the only other place, Jasmine Café I had already tried and liked - coulda' shoulda' gone there! Despite the fact that what we selected for drinks cannot be screwed up, I was wrong as I could attest with my tepid $5.50 Blue Moon Draft, the watered down and lackluster rail vodka Cosmos, down to insipid Margaritas at $6.50 each weren't worth half the price. The Calamari Appetizer, Spanikopita and Grilled Haloumi we ordered were at best mediocre and nothing to write home about, the clincher for us was being served by Emmy which ended up feeling like teeth being pulled, constantly reminding her of requested water multiple times and lack of attention overall - seemed like she was on a cloud! Their quickest response of the day was picking up our payment for the check! Just plain Sucky service! I guess when you're the second only joint there, taking advantage of second or third rate service is the way to go. Unfortunately, they've lost 4 future spenders... next time, we're going next door!

Time after time, we keep trying Kalypso at Lake Anne Plaza after tennis. We truly do enjoy the food, and sitting out by the lake is beautiful on a nice day. Somehow, we keep having the same experience. Service is typically slow. I mean REALLY slow. We don't order anything crazy....sandwiches, salads, dips and maybe a pasta. We have been sitting there for 45 minutes without food sometimes. Friday, 8/8 a group of us headed to Kalypso for lunch. We had to laugh......two of us ordered a drink. One beer and one margarita. The margarita was supposed to have salt. No salt. The beer, a Blue Moon, was supposed to come with a slice of orange. No orange. The part that was pretty funny......our server told us the bartender hadn't cut the oranges yet. OK. How long does that take? I drank 3/4 of my beer before an orange slice arrived. Two ladies ordered pasta.....their salad was very nice and looked crisp and fresh. Their pasta arrived and there was no bread, no peppers or cheese. They asked for both. My sandwich had to be "remade", because "they made it wrong". OK.....I waited. I love the sandwich and when if finally arrived, it was as good as ever. PLEASE get your act together. I lived in Reston for over 30 years. I love that Kalypso is at Lake Anne Plaza. I love the plaza. Train your servers and get your bartender up to par. A bar should be set and ready to go when the restaurant opens. No excuses.

Took my mom and brother for lunch at Kalypso's a free days ago, as a reward for helping me put my garden to bed, and couldn't have asked for a better experience. We're admittedly a fussy trio when it comes to food, atmosphere and service. To make matters worse, I'm a Grecophile who did three years in Athens, so I know Greek/Med food. Poor German drew the short straw as server, but managed to convince us that Kalypso's is one of the two best places to grab a meal in the Herndon/Reston area. It was a gorgeous day, so we sat out, 'waterside', enjoying the last of the fall sunshine. German brought out the well-earned beer and wine, recommended several dishes, gave us the details on others, and placed our order in immediately. Our mezzo platter came out minutes later, drinks were refilled promptly and main courses were well-timed. Bravo German! The food was as close to authentic as I have found in 10 years of being stateside. The saganaki was a real show at the table, and the avgolemono soup was an exercise in nostalgia. The only thing I missed was skordalia! The second time I went within the same week, I was by myself. My server, a gal whose name I never got, treated me like a visiting cousin, solicitous, friendly, prompt, and my souvlaki platter came to the table hot, fresh and with a smile. If I were to close my eyes and pretend the voices around me were in Greek, I could have been at a taverna in Anafiotika. Bravo Kalypso! Two notes: please serve bottled beer with a glass (at least for us ladies). Also, is Greek coffee on the menu?

I love this place. The bar staff is awesome, Brittany, Nick, Kevin and Scott always take care of me and have my drink in front of me before I sit down. The manager Kevin is always friendly and nice to talk to. The food is good as well, I have had a white pizza and a few of the apps and haven't been disappointed. If you are ever in the area you should swing by for a drink or 2.

Now that Kalypso's is within walking distance of my house I must give it 5 STARS. But seriously, Kalypso's has grown on me...it's a local bar off the beaten path. It not in the Reston Town Center, so it's more of a low-key place. Gets crowded sometimes but it's not someplace you feel cramped. However, it's not a large place either. Only a few tables to sit at, and a half bar but like I said, it's not a place that attracts the crowds like a Jackson's or McCormick's. Great for Sunday Funday during football season - they have like 15 TVs in the place. The owners are very friendly and they are always walking about in the crowds. They host lots of theme parties and music and DJ acts which is a good change-up from the town center monotony. My Wow moment: The food is actually excellent! I recommend eating here. The hummus is homemade. Amazing!

Like what they are trying to do with the place and the atmosphere. However that is where it stops. First the Sangria is the absolute worst Sangria I have ever tasted, it's like someone took a bottle of Merlot poured it over ice and put some fruit in it. Absolutely gross! Food was OK, but come one 3 pieces of Spinakopata for an appetizer, really. Only saving grace was the reggae band, which as actually pretty good.

I had the chance to visit Kalypso's for brunch last weekend and am pleased to say that the service was much improved. Our server, Isaiah, was very professional unlike my previous server here. Although my wife and I arrived just 5 minutes past the 2pm cutoff for brunch, the hostess told us they could accommodate us with that menu anyway. I had the Kalypso's Benedict which was different in that it featured gyro meat. That was a pretty nice change up from the norm. The toast was a bit overdone, but not by too much. Thankfully the poached egg exhibited the perfect amount of gooeyness to take care of that. The other Greek spin on this dish was the feta cheese, but you couldn't taste any of it due to the Hollandaise sauce. The home fries that accompanied the dish were perfect in some aspects: light, delicate, sometimes crispy, and imperfect in others: some pieces tasted completely saturated with oil. It was definitely a dish I'd come back to enjoy for brunch though. My wife commented that the Surf Panini she had was awesome and just the right amount of food. She said the bread was perfect. I'd come back for brunch, but the drink prices remain way too high to even consider it as a nightlife option.

TERRIBLE!!! Stay away!! I dined here once out on the patio and it was just horrific. They were out of everything; twice the waiter came back to tell us what we ordered was no longer available- even after the waiter had personally recommended an item after our first choice was not available. At least two different waiters dropped & shattered dishes not once, not twice but THREE times during our meal. The staff was so slow and flakey we practically had to beg to get our drinks refilled and we waited for ages for each of our courses to arrive. The outdoor area of this place is great, and they allow dogs but the food and drinks are terrible. I ordered Sangria at the bar while waiting for outdoor table and the guy literally poured bottled Sangria into my glass and it was the worst I've ever tasted. This place was a joke. When we walked in we were greeted by a very friendly lady who was more than attentive. Set our tables up for us and everything. Then it took us a couple minutes to receive our menus. We then get the menus and it takes us almost 40 minutes to receive our food. It was 11:50 am and no one was in the bar area but us. Our server, oh gosh where do i begin. He rolled his eyes at my colleague when she asked for an additional ranch. Then my other colleague heads up the bar to ask for our checks because we need to head back to work, and he says..."are you freaking kidding me?' out of his mouth as if she was asking him for something out of the ordinary. Then proceeds to grab his head, smacking himself multiple times....like was that even real???? We waited for 10 minutes and had to leave our debit cards with our other co workers in order to get back to work on time because he was too incompetent to give us our checks. I loved the location and the amazing hostess and the food was pretty good too. But that reject bartender has got to go. I worked in customer service for years and would have never raised my voice at a customer no matter how rough my day was. He needs to pick a new career ASAP. He was pitiful!!!! Inconsistency is Kalypso's middle name. The food is acceptable, though nothing to write home about. The drinks are meh as well. The service is really what brings it down. I've been here several times, always due to the decision of someone else (birthday's, mostly), and NEVER has the server gotten my order or bill right. They have tried to overcharge me several times or given me the wrong check altogether, charged me for things that I ordered but never received, et cetera. The list goes on. Every server I've had is inattentive, leading me to track someone, anyone, down. Bar service sucks - if you don't have an "in" or you're not a regular, good luck. The location is great and several of my friends live right near by, which is why I've been here more than once. If that weren't the case, I would have never returned.

We frequent Kalypso's about once a month, it is that often because the food is amazing(whomever the exec. chef is, he/she has it spot on) and the outside seating next to the water. The problem we have had on a continuous basis has been the service from the wait staff. It has become a running joke with my wife that we will be getting great food with nice ambiance but we will expect the service to not match at all, and we are never disappointed. Service is constantly slow and mistakes are made often. It is so consistent that I blame it on the staff not being trained on the basics of service. As an example, on our last visit, we walked in the door(no customers in the inside dinning room and two parties sitting outside) and had to wait at least 5 min before we were greeted. Once we were they said take any table, we did an waited another 5min for anyone to come to table. Once we received our order, that was the last we saw of our waitress, never checked back to see how food was, had to get up to find someone to refill soda and had to do the same not only to get bill but then to pay bill. Unfortunately, with all the reviews here, and customers that I know of speaking to management in person, we have come to the conclusion that they either don't care or do not have the ability to make a change. If you want some really good food and have the patience to tolerate sub par service, give them a try.

This is a very unique venue. Kalypso's is on the water, you can dine inside or out, relax in the lounge area, drink at two bars, the food is great, has outstanding service, a mixture of entertainment and friendly Bartenders! Not sure where the folks that reviewed in the past went, but I found it to be a wonderful experience. All week-end they have some sort of entertainment you might find a guy playing guitar, Classic Rock Band, Indie Group, Jazz and even Blue Grass! My wife and friends dropped in last Friday night and found the staff and management to be quite friendly. The clientele is a mixture of 20 something's through 60 year old's. If you are in Reston, drop in and experience a spot that is not cookie cutter--Kalypso's has it's own personality

I so much want to like this place, however, it is not meant to be. I will provide one star for the outside ambience. It is a sports tavern so my expectation is for good tavern food. The food, what we received, was ok. The problem was in the service, the mistakes, and how they handled the mistakes. It was a Friday evening, not terribly busy - some outside tables remained empty. Two parties in our group received their entrées. The server claimed that a mistake was made with the other two and were brought out to the wrong table. As we waited for the two other entrées (two pizza Margherita's), the manager checked in on us. I explained that two dishes have not come out yet, the server was aware and trying to expedite. The server brings a pepperoni pizza out and states as he is placing it down "I hope this is ok". It is not as this person is a vegetarian. Later another pizza comes out and this one is a white pizza. We accept it despite ordering the pizza margherita as the two waiting are too hungry to continue the wait and the other two in the party have completed their entrées. The bill arrives and I was expecting they would at least comp the white pizza. After paying and preparing to leave the manager came over and inquired "how was your dinner?" I stated that I was surprised to be charged for the white pizza after the series of mistakes. At this time, he insisted on crediting that portion back to me. The food: grilled shrimp platter. It was ok, a little on the salty side. Wine: Hess Select Cabernet - good cabernet. Medium on the tannins and acidity. L De Lyeth Merlot - probably one of the worst Merlot's I have had. Almost had a rubbing alchol after taste to it. (not that I have tasted rubbing alcohol... that I can recall :)

Friday night in the bar at Kalypsos. No one at front, we find a spot in bar, which is ok. Bar staff I order a Fat Tire, it tastes like Coors Light, there is obviously something funky with taps/lines. Bartender asks me if i want another and i mention it doesnt taste right (i'm a beer lover) doesnt seem to care so i order bottles rest of night. They don't come by regularly, but holding bottle up results in quick refill. They were working hard on this busy Friday night. Food was ok? Piece of dead lettuce removed from salad but rest is decent, if not up to NOVA standards (not being a snob, just pointing out that there is room for improvement). Fish tacos from the daily special list are ok. Very fair portion, but something a little suspect on garnish. My wifes GYRO is huge and she likes it. Overall, our bar staff was not attentive but were responsive which was ok on a busy Friday but no way too run a business. They need too pay more attention to the freshness, and cleanliness of the fresh vegetables. And for goodness sake clean the bar once in a whole and get someone in there who know how to run a clean tap line-if I was a Fat Tire distributor i would be horrified. I would go bac

The interior of Kalypso's is attractively designed and the outside seating area is a gem. As far as the service is concerned, it was slow and it took the waiter forever to get anything for us. The waiter was friendly though. However, the problem with Kalypso's is THE FOOD. When I looked at the menu, I got excited. Everything sounded tasty, but it was one bland plate after another. The app was on a special menu. It was a greek sampler. It was a good, but unspectacular start to my meal. Wish they had included more pita chips with it. As far as the main courses, one of my guests said the meal wasn't balanced and ended up being too heavy. The other said the mussels were nicely cooked, but the pasta was bland. I ordered lamb chops. Nicely cooked, but they needed to be seasoned, they needed some more flavor. The sides that came with it were boring and unflavorful. As for the dessert, I ordered the Tiramisu. I was hoping dinner would end on a positive, but again another bland plate. I don't get it?!? All of the food presentations are beautiful, but the food is continually bland and under seasoned. If Kalypso's could get a handle on their food, they would be a pretty nice restaurant.

They have gotten much better over the last year. I swore the place off after a few visits when they first open due to the time it took to get food, sometimes an hour. I've been going back now since they host my football teams meetup group for Sunday football. The service has come up quite a bit, food comes out in a timely manner etc. The bar food is OK, what you would expect from a sports bar. My wife raves about the spicy fried bean appetizer though.

** Please note: an update appears at the bottom of this review. ** Before I begin, let me make it clear that my issue is with MANAGEMENT, in particular the management we have seen for two months on Saturday mornings. My husband and I can walk to the Lake Anne Farmer's Market, so our tradition (since the Market opened this season) has been to walk to the Market, shop, then have brunch at Kalypso's. We both love the Kalypso's Benedict (awesome originality!). Today, we also tried the frittata and grilled halloumi (absolutely fantastic!). We love the food, we love the location, but the service has always been so-so--it takes a while even to get a drink, much the less food. However, we're laid-back people, so we're fine relaxing on a Saturday morning. This morning, we brought a friend. When the check came, we asked for it to be split: one frittata on one card, the rest of the bill on the other. When the check was returned to us, only one card was there (the one that was supposed to have just the frittata), and the entire bill had been charged to that card. I sent my husband off to find out 1) what had happened and 2) where our card had gone. When he returned to the table a few minutes later, manager and server in tow, he asked the manager to explain to me what had happened. Apparently, our server had returned our card to ANOTHER customer--who he had run down in the parking lot. YES, our credit card was HANDED to another individual who then drove off in her car: the easiest form of identity theft ever. I was shocked. What shocked me more, though, was that the manager (a short, dark-haired young man) had nothing to say. An interlude here: my husband was a server, and we are loathe to complain. In fact, 20% is the low end of our tipping range. But when that manager said NOTHING, I looked at him and said, "I assume you will be taking care of our bill this morning, no?" He then paused, looked uncomfortable, looked at our server, and said "well, sorry, you'll have to cover it." Seriously? You're going to make ME feel guilty about having our (very nice) server cover it? You're not going to offer to take care of the bill, given that you GAVE MY CREDIT CARD AWAY TO SOMEONE ELSE? I am shocked. And sad. We loved having Kalypso's as our Saturday morning tradition. And a very, very poor customer service situation has made that impossible. I'm so sorry, Kalypso's, that your poor management has outweighed your delicious food and wonderful atmosphere. ** Update: After I sent the contents of this review to the restaurant (via their online feedback form), I was contacted that same night by another manager. Not only did she apologize profusely for what had happened, but she also told me that our server would NOT be obligated to pay for our check. Furthermore, the woman who took our credit card had called the restaurant, and the manager who contacted me via email (NOT the manager we had that morning) drove out to that woman's house last night to retrieve our card. While I'm still not certain we'll return simply because the everyday service is so weak, I very much appreciate the efforts of the manager who contacted us last night. **

Living within walking distance, I had high hopes but have been disappointed here so far. I tried only the gyro platter with chicken but it was dry and the fries with it were cold (much better gyro at Roti Grill across the Plaza). I also thought the drinks were overpriced given the location. (drink pricing on-par with downtown Georgetown, not reasonable for this suburb neighborhood hole-in-the wall Lake Ann location). I experienced no problems with the service as reported by other reviewers. The space was renovated and the restaurant side is very attractive but the bar side feels sterile, lacking in atmosphere (despite the nice tv's).. Since it is called a 'sports tavern', it would be nice if they could develop the sports-bar side's atmosphere more and offer more attractive drink pricing which I think would increase repeat / regular clientele. After two visits, I stopped going there but would re-try if changes are made.

Lovely evening for al fresco dining. New arrival to Lake Anne, Kalypso's looks as though it's succeeding - a good happy crowd dining outside - but on the basis of mixed dishes tonight, I'm not yet sure. Pros: lovely lakeside setting, enthusiastic server who was still learning the ropes, reasonable price point, very family friendly - we were two but many tables with small children, all easily accommodated - and decent starters: the spanikopita was genuinely delicious; the little side salads were fresh (with dressings that were nothing special), and the soup of the day, a thick, hearty lentil, was weird for a steamy summer evening but well-seasoned and tasty nonetheless. Cons: drinks were very stingily poured - probably measured out to a "t" but that "t" was still short - standard varies, but here the wine surely wasn't 5 ounces and seemed less than 4, and my gin on the rocks made the ice glisten but I could barely discern a drink in my tumbler. Gone in a flash, needed an almost immediate refill. (And for a spot with so reasonable a price point, Kalypso seems intent on making a lot of that back up on the bar tab - mediocre wine choices at relatively steep prices for short pours.) I felt like only a sandwich and, given the spanikopita ordered earlier, thought Souvlaki would be reliable. Wrong: the skimpy serving of meat was half fat/gristle and half rubber; and the tzatziki was too thickly congealed and didn't cover well. The baby zucchini side was fine. Our other entree, scallops in a butter sauce (ordered with the baby zucchini side), was tasty and well prepared, but consisted of only 5 small pieces of an inch diameter or less, which, for 18.99, struck us as a bit dear . We like the location, and we want to give Kalypso's another shot, but I'm hoping for improvement.

My husband and I attempted to have lunch here last Sunday. The hostess seated us right away and gave us the brunch menu . We asked for the regular menu since we weren't interested in brunch at 1:00. We decided what we wanted and 20 minutes later, the waiter took our order. We waited another 10 minutes to be told that the kitchen doesn't start serving from the menu we ordered from until after 2. We were so frustrated at this point that we just left. We would really like to see this restaurant succeed because it's in such a great location but unless they work on their customer service, they won't last a year.

Another gem opens at Lake Anne! If you thought Tavern on the Lake was bad wait until you try Kalypso's Sports Tavern. My wife and I didn't get our hopes up for this place since every other restaurant to open here have been complete failures, but this place takes the cake. Let me start by saying I feel bad for the wait staff. Obviously these guys are not the brightest bulbs and have had no formal training on how to wait tables. We asked for a certain bottle of wine and the waitress said that there were only two left and that the "kitchen" said they had to save them. What?!? The bus boy brought out the bread and to our amazement there were only two slices for three people. So then we ordered our meals, my wife got the Moussaka and I got the leg of Lamb. I asked for it medium rare and the waitress said that it wouldn't be a problem. The lamb had a color of and old grey sock and taste to boot. I have never seen a cut of meat like this in my life. It looked like they left it in the oven for three hours and then microwaved it for twenty minutes. I'm really not the one to complain because I have worked in restaurants, but this was ridiculous. I asked the waitress to take it back and to see if I could get a piece at a medium rare. She came back and said that the "kitchen" says that they only serve it medium and if I don't like it too bad. I decided to order something else, but the waitress didn't come back for another ten minutes and my wife and daughter were done with their meals. I decided not to get anything else. After waiting another twenty minutes for my check I come to find out that they charged me for the shoe leather. I went to talk to the manager, but he saw me coming and raced back to the kitchen. While I waited for him to come out of the kitchen I over heard him talking to the kitchen staff. He goes, "If I find anymore unwashed silverware in the clean pile someone is going to get fired". How many dirty spoons and forks were set on the tables? Ugh! Needless to say the manager avoided me, so I just got some other waitress to take the meal off my bill. I was hoping that the curse would be lifted from this place, but it looks like this restaurant will be gone within six months. Great Job! If you like salt you will LOVE this restaurant.

Worst experience ever! I went there on a Friday night with my boyfriend for dinner. First off they sat us outside and no one came up to us for about 15 minutes then we got our food and never saw our server again! I kept seeing him across the way cleaning up tables and sweeping. He definitely forgot about us. My boyfriend had to go to the Manager and ask for our server. The Manager didn't apologize for the lack of service. I thought that we should have gotten something taken off our bill and we did not. So all and all worst experience I have ever had! I will never go back! It's unfortunate because I live so close and I like that it is on the water.

I went here for the first time with my kids (9 and 7). The lakeside location is nice, although I could have done without the smokers. The kids ordered the kids' burgers, which was a generous portion, and the fries were good. I ordered a greek salad, which was OK. It came without dressing, then they put a LOT of dressing on without mixing it in. I ordered a cucumber mojito, which sounds great...but it was GROSS! My son said his Sprite tasted funny. I think I might go back because of the location, but I'll read the reviews before I decide what to order. They have a lot of greek items, bar fare, and the wait staff speaks Spanish, so perhaps there's just an identity crisis.

Full disclosure: my sister works at this place, but I don't get here very often. I had a very nice experience here last time. I think it had a rough start, but things seem to be running pretty smoothly now. It's good seeing some new life on the plaza--the entire patio was full for Father's Day. The menu has a lot of great vegetarian options and is reasonably priced. Greek appetizers like hummus, falafel, and spanakopita are excellent. The hummus and falafel tasted freshly made. Last time I got the pasta basilico, which is in a flavorful tomato sauce with feta and olives for a Greek twist. The salad that came with the meal was very fresh and contained a good mix of greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, and parsley. Saganaki: your server will secretly hate you if you order it, but it's good. They also kept a reasonable distance between flaming cheese and my head, which has been a problem at other Greek restaurants. Overall I recommend it for a healthy Mediterranean meal with a view. I think they've worked through the service issues. Support a non-chain restaurant and get away from the Town Center crowds.

Went here for game 3 of the caps bruins playoffs. Very quiet maybe, 7 other people there. Was expecting a larger crowd for caps home playoff game. Nice big HD flat screens all over. Was excited about the game day menu which included .50 cent wings and other bar food for around 5 bucks, BUT the deal only lasts as long as the 1ST period or quarter( NBA, NFL). Surprised and dissapointed over that, but the 2.50 miller lite tall boys an 7 buck Bombay quickly made me forget I was hungry

The food is okay. The service is absolutely horrendous. We were asked to close our tab with the swing shift bartender before our food even arrived, despite the fact that she was still there when we left. Normally this wouldn't be a problem except that my boyfriend sat for 20 minutes without a beverage after having finished his food and despite the fact that three different bartenders walked by several times each without stopping. The prices were sort of absurd considering the fact the fact that we ordered off the happy hour menu, walked out sober and remained fairly angry for the entire experience. My advice is to avoid this place at all costs. It kills me to think that I actually felt compelled to return there after three previous, equally unpleasant experiences. It's really too bad too, because sometimes all you want to do is go somewhere besides the town center.

Holy Greek-themed dive bars, Batman! What do we have here, in the "old" school part of Reston. Kalypso's is the latest incarnation of a place that was once called.......I lost track. Restaurants don't seem to make it here. But for an authentic, grungy happy hour, this place does the trick. Greek food is not exactly my favorite while enjoying microbrews, which Kalypso's has a good supply of. Skip the food, load up on the beers. And don't fall into the lake on your way out.

Okay so this is bizarre... I went to dinner with my husband and two kids on 8/19. We sat outside under an umbrella but at the edge of the right side of the restaurant so we were only partially covered. A storm started to brew so it got a little windy. A gush of wind came by and all of these little white flakes fell all over us and our food. The waiter saw us examining them and came over. He said "Oh, that happens all the time, something is blowing off the roof when it gets windy." The closer I looked at it, it was paint chips! I told the waiter this and he said "No, it's not paint chips, there's just gravel up there." I said "Well, whatever it is, I'm sure it's not edible." and he replied "Well no one's ever gotten sick." WHAT?! I told the manager about this and he took the food off our bill since we quit eating at that point. He should have taken the last round of drinks off too since there were paint chip floating in them. Crazy! I would never go back. And yes it was PAINT CHIPS! I examined the ones in my hair when I got home.

Scammed! We ordered two glasses of rose, assuming like any where else that we would get their house wine. The waiter did not ask what brand and came back with a whole bottle. I decided we would probably have ordered another couple of glasses anyway so I didn't say anything. When the bill came though, they charged us $110. The most expensive wine on their wine list is only $60. The manager claimed that this is the only rose they carry. He said the only thing he could do was discount the price to $90. When I travel overseas, this is one of the scams you watch out for. I never would have thought I would have to watch for this in Reston, VA!

ive given this place a few chances and am let down time after time. first time i was there the bar tender seem to be on drugs (which i later found to be true from another bar tender working there). my last encounter there was the worst of all, i went with my girlfriend to grab a few drinks. there was a table of females next to us when a guy comes up to them and starts insulting them, after a few minutes of overhearing this my girlfriend tells him to stop. he proceeds to spit in her face and push her to the ground. a second later the owner (i think, but very mean lady that is always yelling at the staff) comes out and tries to start a fight with my girlfriend saying shes causing problems and that we need to leave (all this after spending $100+ on drinks) will never be back the kalypso's even though its a 2 min walk from my apt.

My husband and I visited this restaurant Greek reported in the Lake Anne Plaza in Reston. No one greeted us or gave us menus until asked. The salads were great, the lamb chops were tough, the baklava was the worst ever. . .chewy and tough and allegedly made by the owner. The Alfredo sauce was not even warm and quite runny. The waiter Isaiah was a smooth operator but insincere in his manners, words, and service. What a horrible place!

I just moved to reston and really wanted this place to be good as I am looking for an alternative to the overpriced places in Reston Town Center. I love Town Center, but I want alternatives and being able to walk to Kalypso's was a great one. I see a theme through all of these reviews and apparantly the management is clueless or has never seen these as I had an equally dissapointing experiance. I ordered the burger as I thought it would be safe...it is a frozen patty deal, which can be good...I have managed several restaurants and owned one and there are some decent frozen products out there...but they burned this one to a crisp...I ordered it mid well...the fries were good, the lettuce, onion and tomato were very fresh. Service: The bad service is a common theme...this is because all of the servers are drunk. I observed every single person behind the bar consuming alcohol early in the evening onward. The tall galunck with the earrings kept bouncing the mixing cup off of the floor and then USING IT! He did not catch it one time and it rolled about the floor, he picked it up, and immediately mixed a marg in it...DISGUSTING!! He kept bouncing the mixing cup off of the floor throughout the evening. He and several others also kept dipping glassware into the icebin...a big NONO! Those that actually used the ice scoop kept throwing it back into the ice bin...again disgusting. Think about it...cross contamination everywhere. If they are that careless out front, just think of what is going on in the kitchen. I hate giving bad reviews as I know how hard it is to keep a restaurant and its employees under control...but these people just do not care. I only gave it two stars because ONE bartender...with crazy big brown curly hair like a fro (which was awesome) is the only employee who actually asked me if I would like anything...the only one who asked if I would care for another drink, and was attentive to other customers. There was also a sad DJ setting up when I could take no more and he had 1 (one) speaker. This place COULD be awesome. The atmosphere is conducive to a great evening and the setting could not be better. They need management and accountability. I will not go back, as much as I want it to be my hangout I cannot take the health risk.

I am not sure what Frank W. is talking about the menu is full of Greek items. They have the best Lemon Chicken Rice Soup, Avegolemono! (Not sure the spelling of it in Greek) Our server, Andrew, was outstanding! I will have to say that the Hummus and meat marinades are super garlic-y. I did see the Italian items on the menu but I am glad that they have a variety in case you go with someone who doesn't like Greek food.

I have never been to a restaurant that had a ruder staff. The hostess was short with me, and then told one of the waiters to take care of me because she was too busy. The confused waiter thought that I wanted to order to go, when all I wanted was to be seated! (Isn't that the hostess job?!?). I was finally seated, without menus. 10 minutes later, someone stopped bsy to give me a complimentary water. 10 minutes after that, a waitress stopped by and asked if someone had helped me. I said no. She asked what I would like for dinner...I told her that I STILL hadn't seen a menu! She got me a menu and told me she'd be back in 2-3 minutes. 10 minutes later, she took my order. For the rest of the meal, the waitress rarely came back. We had to walk to the bar for refills, while our waitress stood ten feet away in conversation with another customer for 30 minutes. I arrived at 730 and didn't leave until nearly 10. The Greek salad was flavorless, slimy, small, and unimpressive. The grilled shrimp on it was fairly decent. It's sad because the place looks nice but is all-around unimpressive. Even the bathrooms. The stalls were dirty and both out of toliet paper. They didn't have paper towels. Sitting outside near the outdoor herb boxes was nice...until you get bitten by ants through the entire meal. Don't they spray? The table next to me was equally as annoyed. The waiter messed up their drink order and annoyed them. HIRE A BETTER STAFF! Or at least TRAIN this one better, they are NOT good at being hospitable. And when your first impression is a rude hostess, that's a bad start. I have had better food and service at chain restaurants!

I am sorry to say that I am revising my review of Kalypso's. They have been open for about a month now - and I have to say - I am disappointed. We went there twice this weekend, and spent a lot of time waiting, and waiting, and waiting. We weren't even ordering food - just sitting at the bar! With the exception of one bartender, everybody in the restuarant seems to be more interested in talking to eachother than waiting on clients. Really - we come here to eat and drink - not to watch the staff chit-chat it up. So when we walk in, please be polite to us. When we order a drink and water, bring us both the drink and the water. When you see our drink or water is starting to look low - at least come over and ask us if we are doing OK - or if we would like another round... I REALLY want you to succeed - but man, if there are more staff than patrons and the service is still crappy - you know something is wrong. -------- Kalypsos just opened this weekend, and though I haven't had a chance to try out there food yet, I am a huge fan of the place. Finally something is back in this beautiful spot on Lake Anne - and this place hits the spot. The bartending staff is awesome, the menu looks delicious, the view is awesome, the set-up inside is great. They have about 10 HUGE flat screen TVs set up to show sporting events, two bar areas, a 'lounge' seating area, and indoor and outdoor seating areas. I am very excited for this new addition to Lake Anne!

First off, the only reason we went was for sitting on the patio over looking the Lake Anne harbor. Great view. We had low expectations for the food as it's a "sports bar." We got salads and some drinks. The food wasn't great, but it wasn't too bad. The service was pretty poor. Our sever almost seemed scared to come up to the table.

Why did I give it two stars? Here is my reasoning. This restaurant is situated in a nice little area by Lake Anne in Reston, but is getting run down as business is definitely going down for all the retail in this building area as most shops are closing down. Many were not even open on a Sunday. We went here for a late lunch and they had the largest area for outdoor seating and people were eating there so we decided to try it as we did want to sit outside. This is a meditteranean restaurant which is what we were kind of in the mood for. We walked in to get a table and the waiters and host just looked at us and walked around for 5 minutes before deciding that they wanted to come to us and ask us if we wanted a table(first bad sign). After we mentioned we wanted to sit outside, they took us to a table that was not cleared off but still had all the dirty plates, glasses, ashtry with ashes on the tablecloth and had not been wiped down(second bad sign). Then we waited for a bit before the server(who was very nice throughout our lunch and very attentive to our needs and really tried to make it a positive experience. He took our food order which was a simple salad and a gyro sandwich. We enjoyed the day, but after a while it got annoying as we were getting hungry and so much time had passed and we asked for our food, 45 minutes later(after our order was placed) the food finally came out. Of course, i was already on edge because I saw no reason for the delay(third bad sign). We tried the food, my friend said the salad was ok but it look like it douced in some strange dressing and then slices of grilled chicken on top?? strange. Then my gyro sandwich had feta and i saw it as soon as it came, and i mentioned it, and he is like let me fix it, and i could have let him, but i didnt know what that meant. Were they going to scrape it off, lick my food, or remake it, neither option was good since it already took 45 minutes for it to come out so i took the feta out myself. When I actually bit into the sandwich I found that the gyro meat was not fresh and actually was grilled multiple times as it had grill burns(when meat is prepared and refrigerated, and then grilled again), not to mention the gyro meat was EXTREMELY SALTY whereby i had drank multiple glasses of water and few glasses of soda. Now in regards to the soda, i ordered coke. we all know that many restaurants have fountain drinks which is fine, but what i didnt understand is why the consistency of the flavor was different each of the three times i received my coke?? it was as if they changed the soda concentrate going into my soda each time with different flavors. definitely a place i will not go again to eat. Its possible I end up here for drinks by the water but not for a meal.

They have gotten much better over the last year. I swore the place off after a few visits when they first open due to the time it took to get food, sometimes an hour. I've been going back now since they host my football teams meetup group for Sunday football. The service has come up quite a bit, food comes out in a timely manner etc. The bar food is OK, what you would expect from a sports bar. My wife raves about the spicy fried bean appetizer though.

Came here the other day when the weather was beautiful and I really wanted to sit outside with a drink. The service was absolutely appalling. Took forever to get our server to come by and take our order. When he finally came by to take our drink order, they didn't have what I wanted so I took a look at the wine menu while the person I was with ordered his drink. When he was finished I started to say what I wanted and the server just walked away, I guess he thought that I wasn't planning to get anything? it was kind of strange. Fast forward ten, fifteen minutes and our server hasn't been back. We noticed that two tables nearby who were seated moments after us were already getting appetizers, but we couldn't even get our drinks or a chance to order food. We flagged down a separate server as she walked by and asked if we could order since our waiter was not attentive. She took my drink and appetizer order. The drinks finally showed up. After we had been there for 45 minutes and noticed that everyone around us was eating their meals and we hadn't even seen our waiter to order our meals we decided to call it a day. The waiter brought out our appetizer and we told him we were leaving due to the lack of service and the look on his face indicated that he was stunned and had no clue. No apology either. The manager came out, and honestly I think this explained it. He sort of bumbled an apology but gave no explanation and seemed very aloof.

I really wanted to like this place. It's clean and vibrant, aesthetic, and has a great location overlooking Lake Anne. I was hoping to make this a place I go to regularly. It is that nice there. And then my wife and I ate there tonight. It's a good thing they have the view, because the food is mediocre and the service is horrible. After being seated and taking our order, our waitress disappeared. After waiting a long time (I admit I didn't keep track, but it was definitely too long), we had to actually request our meal from the hostess because we couldn't find our waitress (I did look). Luckily the hostess could find her, and ironically our food just finished after we asked about it. She still skipped giving us one salad that we ordered though. After the meal was delivered, our waitress disappeared again. This seemed to be a recurring problem because the table next to us had the same issue, and they got the manager to wait on them. This time I did keep track though, and 15 minutes after finishing we finally had to request our check from a busser. The bussers were doing an excellent job there clearing tables and refilling water. The waitress never checked on us the entire time. To add insult to this, we were overcharged. I was going to leave a symbolic $1 tip, but then the waitress wouldn't bring me a pen to sign the credit card slip! So she missed out on a whole dollar and didn't seem to care. The food was ok but not great. The lamb was cooked well, but the pasta and sauce were bland. As we were leaving, we overheard a waitress on the floor within earshot of patrons complaining about something in the kitchen. The best thing I can say about this place is that it has no where to look but up.

The food was excellent here and the service equally great. It's nice to have Greek as a new selection for the Lake Anne area. Our servers were very attentive and the outdoor seating made for a very relaxing meal. Inside there's a nice sports bar area and beyond that a small loungy area and nicer indoor dining. Like a few other reviewers, I was happy to see this great location at Lake Anne occupied and open for business. A sports tavern wasn't a concept I was excited about, but I was optimistic that the setting and some Greek food would make me an occasional customer. My wife and I went for a late Friday afternoon lunch. There were a few customers in the bar area but no one on the patio or the main dining room. The hostess was friendly. Our waiter was friendly and attentive, if not experienced and knowledgeable. We sat inside the restaurant, which was comfortable and clean. The menu was not as Greek as we expected, which was disappointing. There were a lot of burgers, pizza and pasta on the menu. There were several Greek appetizers, but few Greek dishes otherwise. The only Greek main dish I remember seeing was souvlaki. The lunch menu seemed to be the same as the dinner menu, and the prices were comparable to Reston Town Center restaurants. Wine by the glass was expensive, at $9-10/glass. Draft beers were $4-6. Complimentary bread and olive oil were served shortly after we were seated. The bread was sliced, room temperature, fairly soft, and fresh enough. Nothing fancy, but good. The olive oil and herb dip was very good. We enjoyed it more than the appetizers. Since we wanted to try the Greek food, we ordered three appetizers (spanakopita, taramosalata, saganaki) and a souvlaki (pork) platter, which came with a good-sized house salad. The spanakopita was very attractively served with bits of feta and snipped parsley. It was rich for us--we like more spinach taste. The taramosalata was not what I expected and not something that I would order again, but if you like taramosalata in general, you would probably like it. It is made with fish roe and is intensely fishy and salty. It was served with a good amount of Greek pita bread. The saganaki (cheese) is served flamed with brandy, table side. They are still perfecting the presentation. It was good. The souvlaki platter was a souvlaki sandwich with fries and a side salad. For $2.95 more, you can upgrade to a Greek side salad. (To turn the complimentary "mixed greens" salad into a Greek salad, all you would have to do is put a few little pieces of feta cheese and a few olives on it.) The salad contained iceberg other lettuces, a few slices of green pepper, cucumber slices, parsley, red onion, and tomato. All the ingredients were fresh. The sandwich was on pita bread and had a good ratio of meat to bread to tzatziki to lettuce. Too bad lamb was not an option. It was a well-constructed sandwich, wrapped in foil and easy to eat. Not what we expected for a platter since there is also a sandwich on the menu, but it was good. We are not crazy about fries, but they were good as well. There was no Greek coffee available. We were not offered a dessert menu. We might be back in the next few months, but the next time we want a nice Lake Anne dining experience, we are more likely to go to Cafe Montmartre.

OMG. Your signage says Kalypso Sports Tavern. You negotiate a really terrific sales price for the property. You do a wonderful job with renovations. The new lounge is lovely! You have the most beautiful view in Reston. But then...... You hire waiters/waitresses that are Goth rather than sports buff or qualified. Your entire outdoor area is full to be taken care of by one waiter and two busboys. You put a souvlaki platter on your menu and it is pork or chicken and no lamb. It takes 20 minutes to get water and asked about the menu. Your dinner is served 35 minutes later but no knife and fork. Sorry this is Reston and not amateur league. Better get it together or you will have a very very very long winter!

I threw my girlfriend a surprise birthday party here last Friday! First off let me begin by saying how accommodating and wonderful everyone from owner, to gm to staff was. The food was awesome, they didn't hassle us when we wanted 20+ separate checks. They let us take over a section inside so we can dance/party. Overall it was a great experience! On a side note: I have been coming here for years (it was actually where I took my girlfriend on our first date). It's what I call the best kept secret in northern Virginia. Its an awesome restaurant with a great view of Lake Ann. Food prices are very reasonable and drinks as well. I had never gone here having walked by for years and never thinking much of the place. But on an office outing the location was chosen by co-workers. The view was nice and the food was only ok, but the service was awful. The service was soooo slow, water was not replenished when needed, the food took forever, even with several people drinking ice tea we had to get up and get the sugar from the tray at the waiter station because we asked for it and it had been 20 minutes and it still had not come. The appetizer with the three dips came without spoons, when we asked for spoons we got forks. My fish and chips also could have used lemon but after waiting for the sugar I decided not to ask. The only nice thing about this place is the outdoor seating, although the couch I sat on needed to be replaced. If the food and service improved, this would be a nice place to go.

Overall, I really enjoy Kalypso's. It's my favorite place to watch sports in the Reston area by far. They have at least 15 televisions, you're game is guaranteed to be on at least one of them. Most of the waitstaff and bartenders are great, I've never had a bad service experience there. During the warmer months it's really nice to be able to sit outside by the lake and enjoy a drink. Both the interior and exterior eating area are very nice looking. The reason I give it 4 stars as opposed to 5 is sometimes the food can be VERY salty. I've eaten there many times, so at this point I know what to order and what not to order. I've tried the lasagna and the macaroni and cheese, both were generously portioned but overwhelmingly salty! The buffalo chicken dip was also way too salty. However, they really do have some good food options. My boyfriend and I love their wings, nachos, gyro sliders, and french fries. I also enjoy their Greek food options, which are probably superior to the American options.

Lake Anne is the original RTC and therefore often overlooked. Perhaps that is one of the reasons I keep coming back time after time. Kalypso's is by no means an amazing restaurant. They churn out good food at good prices. The service is hit or miss and the reason for only three stars. While the wait staff is generally friendly the service is unbearably slow. The major redeeming quality is the lovely outdoor patio. Also you can often find Robert E. Simon (Reston's founder) dining here as he lives at Lake Anne.

Our small Red Hats group went last night for dinner. I never think of Lake Ann as a place to go for dinner. This restaurant is hidden if you don't know the area. They have a lovely outdoor area with a view of the lake and fountain. Very pleasant evening to sit outside. The thing that bothered me was that the staff was spraying shellac over the corn hole boards right next to the dining area and the smell was a bit overwhelming at first. The menu has lots of choices - they lean toward Greek and Mediterranean food. Nice choices of wine and prices were reasonable. They were very accommodating to our request for separate checks. I had the Kalypsos Grilled Shrimp. It comes with rice, vegetable of day and a salad. I asked asked if rice could be replaced by additional veggies since I can't eat rice. The server told me that I would need to pay extra. I never understand that, but decided to just leave rice off the plate. The meal was delicious. One person had the Gyro platter and loved it. Another had the mussels with linguini and truly enjoyed them. One person had the seafood dinner special and said it was delicious. I must say the server needs to learn how to serve. We were at a round table with plenty of room around us. The server leaned across the table to hand out meals. That is so not right especially when there is room to move around. Of course, he did looked so uninterested in his job that he probably would not care to learn how to do it right. The other little thing that bothered me is our waiter never asked if we wanted coffee or dessert. He just brought us our checks like its time for you to be done. So although he probably could have had a bit more added to the bill, we did not even ask for anything more. Would I try this restaurant again? Yes I would and I would hope to sit outside again.

I dined here back in April when I was nearby for work and needed a quick meal but didn't feel like driving over to Reston Town Center. Boy what a mistake. From the moment I walked in, I had my doubts. The floor (inside, not the patio) was COVERED in half-eaten food and there were stains on many of the waiters' aprons and shirts. I figured maybe they had a messy school group or family just leave and hadn't cleaned up yet, so I decided to give them a shot based on good reviews I had seen. The bread was cold and tasted like it was something frozen they had thawed out, the tzatziki and pita was average and could have just as well been store bought, and my alfredo pasta dish with shrimp had some of the most overcooked shrimp I have ever had it in. The pasta was way too al dente and the sauce itself was lumpy and tasted rough, like they didn't properly mix the flour in. Oh, and they made zero attempt to clean up the dirty floor while I was there even though only one other table was occupied and they had at least 5 servers aimlessly hanging around. I will definitely not be going back. Pretty gross and I'm surprised I didn't get sick from the food.

First the good. Nice atmosphere. Generally a nice experience. However several days ago I ordered the half rack of ribs. What was provided for my entree was 5 bones worth of ribs. Scarcely a quarter to a third of a rack. Not a bit more. There was an appetizer portion on the same menu which I can only imagine as "laughable". The ribs were tasty! I pointed out the portion size to the server who said that she mentioned my dissatisfaction to the cook and the manager and that was that. Prior to posting this on Yelp, I sent a note via the Kalypso website describing my experience and after a week, nothing in reply. So here it is folks. Don't order the half rack of ribs. It is a complete LIE. It is a RIP OFF and lastly, management doesn't appear to care or can't be bothered to respond. There are other choices at Lake Anne. Pass this place up if you care about quality, honesty, and customer care in a restaurant....

I had two very good experiences recently. I came here with a big group for lunch and back again later with a friend for dinner another time. Both times were pretty great and I had very attentive service. Nice atmosphere, pleasant lakeside view outside, and generous portions of food. The food is very, very good if you like Mediterranean. The appetizers were exceptional, salads satisfying (huge shrimp on my salad!), and the pizzas others ordered also looked great. I think this place is a great alternative to Reston Town Center, more peaceful, and even on a weekend, there was no wait!

I unfortunately must agree with the majority of the reviews on Yelp and Urbanspoon about this place being lousy overall are not unfounded. We never checked these before going as we were attending NoVA Magazines BBQ Brawl event there at Lake Anne and after the tastings decided to get off our feet, cool off under their umbrellas and have an early evening meal... big mistake. We only chose Kalypso, because the only other place, Jasmine Café I had already tried and liked - coulda' shoulda' gone there! Despite the fact that what we selected for drinks cannot be screwed up, I was wrong as I could attest with my tepid $5.50 Blue Moon Draft, the watered down and lackluster rail vodka Cosmos, down to insipid Margaritas at $6.50 each weren't worth half the price. The Calamari Appetizer, Spanikopita and Grilled Haloumi we ordered were at best mediocre and nothing to write home about, the clincher for us was being served by Emmy which ended up feeling like teeth being pulled, constantly reminding her of requested water multiple times and lack of attention overall - seemed like she was on a cloud! Their quickest response of the day was picking up our payment for the check! Just plain Sucky service! I guess when you're the second only joint there, taking advantage of second or third rate service is the way to go. Unfortunately, they've lost 4 future spenders... next time, we're going next door!

Time after time, we keep trying Kalypso at Lake Anne Plaza after tennis. We truly do enjoy the food, and sitting out by the lake is beautiful on a nice day. Somehow, we keep having the same experience. Service is typically slow. I mean REALLY slow. We don't order anything crazy....sandwiches, salads, dips and maybe a pasta. We have been sitting there for 45 minutes without food sometimes. Friday, 8/8 a group of us headed to Kalypso for lunch. We had to laugh......two of us ordered a drink. One beer and one margarita. The margarita was supposed to have salt. No salt. The beer, a Blue Moon, was supposed to come with a slice of orange. No orange. The part that was pretty funny......our server told us the bartender hadn't cut the oranges yet. OK. How long does that take? I drank 3/4 of my beer before an orange slice arrived. Two ladies ordered pasta.....their salad was very nice and looked crisp and fresh. Their pasta arrived and there was no bread, no peppers or cheese. They asked for both. My sandwich had to be "remade", because "they made it wrong". OK.....I waited. I love the sandwich and when if finally arrived, it was as good as ever. PLEASE get your act together. I lived in Reston for over 30 years. I love that Kalypso is at Lake Anne Plaza. I love the plaza. Train your servers and get your bartender up to par. A bar should be set and ready to go when the restaurant opens. No excuses.

Now that Kalypso's is within walking distance of my house I must give it 5 STARS. But seriously, Kalypso's has grown on me...it's a local bar off the beaten path. It not in the Reston Town Center, so it's more of a low-key place. Gets crowded sometimes but it's not someplace you feel cramped. However, it's not a large place either. Only a few tables to sit at, and a half bar but like I said, it's not a place that attracts the crowds like a Jackson's or McCormick's. Great for Sunday Funday during football season - they have like 15 TVs in the place. The owners are very friendly and they are always walking about in the crowds. They host lots of theme parties and music and DJ acts which is a good change-up from the town center monotony. My Wow moment: The food is actually excellent! I recommend eating here. The hummus is homemade. Amazing!

I love this place. The bar staff is awesome, Brittany, Nick, Kevin and Scott always take care of me and have my drink in front of me before I sit down. The manager Kevin is always friendly and nice to talk to. The food is good as well, I have had a white pizza and a few of the apps and haven't been disappointed. If you are ever in the area you should swing by for a drink or 2.

A nice change of pace in Reston. This is an independent restaurant and bar. The restaurant is connected to the bar but far enough away that you don't get the noise even on NFL game day. Went there to meet a friend on New Years day for lunch. It's upscale casual and a nice sized dining room with a view of the lake I had the special which was a nice sized greek salad with grilled salmon. It was excellent! The salad was fresh,with quality ingredients and the salmon was a nice generous portion with excellent flavor. The service was great though it wasn't crowded. This would be a great place to dine outside when the weather suits.

Took my mom and brother for lunch at Kalypso's a free days ago, as a reward for helping me put my garden to bed, and couldn't have asked for a better experience. We're admittedly a fussy trio when it comes to food, atmosphere and service. To make matters worse, I'm a Grecophile who did three years in Athens, so I know Greek/Med food. Poor German drew the short straw as server, but managed to convince us that Kalypso's is one of the two best places to grab a meal in the Herndon/Reston area. It was a gorgeous day, so we sat out, 'waterside', enjoying the last of the fall sunshine. German brought out the well-earned beer and wine, recommended several dishes, gave us the details on others, and placed our order in immediately. Our mezzo platter came out minutes later, drinks were refilled promptly and main courses were well-timed. Bravo German! The food was as close to authentic as I have found in 10 years of being stateside. The saganaki was a real show at the table, and the avgolemono soup was an exercise in nostalgia. The only thing I missed was skordalia! The second time I went within the same week, I was by myself. My server, a gal whose name I never got, treated me like a visiting cousin, solicitous, friendly, prompt, and my souvlaki platter came to the table hot, fresh and with a smile. If I were to close my eyes and pretend the voices around me were in Greek, I could have been at a taverna in Anafiotika. Bravo Kalypso! Two notes: please serve bottled beer with a glass (at least for us ladies). Also, is Greek coffee on the menu?

Like what they are trying to do with the place and the atmosphere. However that is where it stops. First the Sangria is the absolute worst Sangria I have ever tasted, it's like someone took a bottle of Merlot poured it over ice and put some fruit in it. Absolutely gross! Food was OK, but come one 3 pieces of Spinakopata for an appetizer, really. Only saving grace was the reggae band, which as actually pretty good.

I had the chance to visit Kalypso's for brunch last weekend and am pleased to say that the service was much improved. Our server, Isaiah, was very professional unlike my previous server here. Although my wife and I arrived just 5 minutes past the 2pm cutoff for brunch, the hostess told us they could accommodate us with that menu anyway. I had the Kalypso's Benedict which was different in that it featured gyro meat. That was a pretty nice change up from the norm. The toast was a bit overdone, but not by too much. Thankfully the poached egg exhibited the perfect amount of gooeyness to take care of that. The other Greek spin on this dish was the feta cheese, but you couldn't taste any of it due to the Hollandaise sauce. The home fries that accompanied the dish were perfect in some aspects: light, delicate, sometimes crispy, and imperfect in others: some pieces tasted completely saturated with oil. It was definitely a dish I'd come back to enjoy for brunch though. My wife commented that the Surf Panini she had was awesome and just the right amount of food. She said the bread was perfect. I'd come back for brunch, but the drink prices remain way too high to even consider it as a nightlife option.

TERRIBLE!!! Stay away!! I dined here once out on the patio and it was just horrific. They were out of everything; twice the waiter came back to tell us what we ordered was no longer available- even after the waiter had personally recommended an item after our first choice was not available. At least two different waiters dropped & shattered dishes not once, not twice but THREE times during our meal. The staff was so slow and flakey we practically had to beg to get our drinks refilled and we waited for ages for each of our courses to arrive. Also the patio is not level so our table and each of our chairs wobbled irritatingly throughout the entire meal. The food was just okay.

The outdoor area of this place is great, and they allow dogs but the food and drinks are terrible. I ordered Sangria at the bar while waiting for outdoor table and the guy literally poured bottled Sangria into my glass and it was the worst I've ever tasted. This place was a joke. When we walked in we were greeted by a very friendly lady who was more than attentive. Set our tables up for us and everything. Then it took us a couple minutes to receive our menus. We then get the menus and it takes us almost 40 minutes to receive our food. It was 11:50 am and no one was in the bar area but us. Our server, oh gosh where do i begin. He rolled his eyes at my colleague when she asked for an additional ranch. Then my other colleague heads up the bar to ask for our checks because we need to head back to work, and he says..."are you freaking kidding me?' out of his mouth as if she was asking him for something out of the ordinary. Then proceeds to grab his head, smacking himself multiple times....like was that even real???? We waited for 10 minutes and had to leave our debit cards with our other co workers in order to get back to work on time because he was too incompetent to give us our checks. I loved the location and the amazing hostess and the food was pretty good too. But that reject bartender has got to go. I worked in customer service for years and would have never raised my voice at a customer no matter how rough my day was. He needs to pick a new career ASAP. He was pitiful!!!! If you come to the bar and you see a scruffy man, RUN AWAY!!!!!

Inconsistency is Kalypso's middle name. The food is acceptable, though nothing to write home about. The drinks are meh as well. The service is really what brings it down. I've been here several times, always due to the decision of someone else (birthday's, mostly), and NEVER has the server gotten my order or bill right. They have tried to overcharge me several times or given me the wrong check altogether, charged me for things that I ordered but never received, et cetera. The list goes on. Every server I've had is inattentive, leading me to track someone, anyone, down. Bar service sucks - if you don't have an "in" or you're not a regular, good luck. The location is great and several of my friends live right near by, which is why I've been here more than once. If that weren't the case, I would have never returned.

We frequent Kalypso's about once a month, it is that often because the food is amazing(whomever the exec. chef is, he/she has it spot on) and the outside seating next to the water. The problem we have had on a continuous basis has been the service from the wait staff. It has become a running joke with my wife that we will be getting great food with nice ambiance but we will expect the service to not match at all, and we are never disappointed. Service is constantly slow and mistakes are made often. It is so consistent that I blame it on the staff not being trained on the basics of service. As an example, on our last visit, we walked in the door(no customers in the inside dinning room and two parties sitting outside) and had to wait at least 5 min before we were greeted. Once we were they said take any table, we did an waited another 5min for anyone to come to table. Once we received our order, that was the last we saw of our waitress, never checked back to see how food was, had to get up to find someone to refill soda and had to do the same not only to get bill but then to pay bill. Unfortunately, with all the reviews here, and customers that I know of speaking to management in person, we have come to the conclusion that they either don't care or do not have the ability to make a change. If you want some really good food and have the patience to tolerate sub par service, give them a try.

This is a very unique venue. Kalypso's is on the water, you can dine inside or out, relax in the lounge area, drink at two bars, the food is great, has outstanding service, a mixture of entertainment and friendly Bartenders! Not sure where the folks that reviewed in the past went, but I found it to be a wonderful experience. All week-end they have some sort of entertainment you might find a guy playing guitar, Classic Rock Band, Indie Group, Jazz and even Blue Grass! My wife and friends dropped in last Friday night and found the staff and management to be quite friendly. The clientele is a mixture of 20 something's through 60 year old's. If you are in Reston, drop in and experience a spot that is not cookie cutter--Kalypso's has it's own personality

I so much want to like this place, however, it is not meant to be. I will provide one star for the outside ambience. It is a sports tavern so my expectation is for good tavern food. The food, what we received, was ok. The problem was in the service, the mistakes, and how they handled the mistakes. It was a Friday evening, not terribly busy - some outside tables remained empty. Two parties in our group received their entrées. The server claimed that a mistake was made with the other two and were brought out to the wrong table. As we waited for the two other entrées (two pizza Margherita's), the manager checked in on us. I explained that two dishes have not come out yet, the server was aware and trying to expedite. The server brings a pepperoni pizza out and states as he is placing it down "I hope this is ok". It is not as this person is a vegetarian. Later another pizza comes out and this one is a white pizza. We accept it despite ordering the pizza margherita as the two waiting are too hungry to continue the wait and the other two in the party have completed their entrées. The bill arrives and I was expecting they would at least comp the white pizza. After paying and preparing to leave the manager came over and inquired "how was your dinner?" I stated that I was surprised to be charged for the white pizza after the series of mistakes. At this time, he insisted on crediting that portion back to me. The food: grilled shrimp platter. It was ok, a little on the salty side. Wine: Hess Select Cabernet - good cabernet. Medium on the tannins and acidity. L De Lyeth Merlot - probably one of the worst Merlot's I have had. Almost had a rubbing alchol after taste to it. (not that I have tasted rubbing alcohol... that I can recall :)

Friday night in the bar at Kalypsos. No one at front, we find a spot in bar, which is ok. Bar staff I order a Fat Tire, it tastes like Coors Light, there is obviously something funky with taps/lines. Bartender asks me if i want another and i mention it doesnt taste right (i'm a beer lover) doesnt seem to care so i order bottles rest of night. They don't come by regularly, but holding bottle up results in quick refill. They were working hard on this busy Friday night. Food was ok? Piece of dead lettuce removed from salad but rest is decent, if not up to NOVA standards (not being a snob, just pointing out that there is room for improvement). Fish tacos from the daily special list are ok. Very fair portion, but something a little suspect on garnish. My wifes GYRO is huge and she likes it. Overall, our bar staff was not attentive but were responsive which was ok on a busy Friday but no way too run a business. They need too pay more attention to the freshness, and cleanliness of the fresh vegetables. The interior of Kalypso's is attractively designed and the outside seating area is a gem. As far as the service is concerned, it was slow and it took the waiter forever to get anything for us. The waiter was friendly though. However, the problem with Kalypso's is THE FOOD. When I looked at the menu, I got excited. Everything sounded tasty, but it was one bland plate after another. The app was on a special menu. It was a greek sampler. It was a good, but unspectacular start to my meal. Wish they had included more pita chips with it. As far as the main courses, one of my guests said the meal wasn't balanced and ended up being too heavy. The other said the mussels were nicely cooked, but the pasta was bland. I ordered lamb chops. Nicely cooked, but they needed to be seasoned, they needed some more flavor. The sides that came with it were boring and unflavorful. As for the dessert, I ordered the Tiramisu. I was hoping dinner would end on a positive, but again another bland plate. I don't get it?!? All of the food presentations are beautiful, but the food is continually bland and under seasoned. If Kalypso's could get a handle on their food, they would be a pretty nice restaurant.

** Please note: an update appears at the bottom of this review. ** Before I begin, let me make it clear that my issue is with MANAGEMENT, in particular the management we have seen for two months on Saturday mornings. My husband and I can walk to the Lake Anne Farmer's Market, so our tradition (since the Market opened this season) has been to walk to the Market, shop, then have brunch at Kalypso's. We both love the Kalypso's Benedict (awesome originality!). Today, we also tried the frittata and grilled halloumi (absolutely fantastic!). We love the food, we love the location, but the service has always been so-so--it takes a while even to get a drink, much the less food. However, we're laid-back people, so we're fine relaxing on a Saturday morning. This morning, we brought a friend. When the check came, we asked for it to be split: one frittata on one card, the rest of the bill on the other. When the check was returned to us, only one card was there (the one that was supposed to have just the frittata), and the entire bill had been charged to that card. I sent my husband off to find out 1) what had happened and 2) where our card had gone. When he returned to the table a few minutes later, manager and server in tow, he asked the manager to explain to me what had happened. Apparently, our server had returned our card to ANOTHER customer--who he had run down in the parking lot. YES, our credit card was HANDED to another individual who then drove off in her car: the easiest form of identity theft ever. I was shocked. What shocked me more, though, was that the manager (a short, dark-haired young man) had nothing to say. An interlude here: my husband was a server, and we are loathe to complain. In fact, 20% is the low end of our tipping range. But when that manager said NOTHING, I looked at him and said, "I assume you will be taking care of our bill this morning, no?" He then paused, looked uncomfortable, looked at our server, and said "well, sorry, you'll have to cover it." Seriously? You're going to make ME feel guilty about having our (very nice) server cover it? You're not going to offer to take care of the bill, given that you GAVE MY CREDIT CARD AWAY TO SOMEONE ELSE? I am shocked. And sad. We loved having Kalypso's as our Saturday morning tradition. And a very, very poor customer service situation has made that impossible. I'm so sorry, Kalypso's, that your poor management has outweighed your delicious food and wonderful atmosphere. ** Update: After I sent the contents of this review to the restaurant (via their online feedback form), I was contacted that same night by another manager. Not only did she apologize profusely for what had happened, but she also told me that our server would NOT be obligated to pay for our check. Furthermore, the woman who took our credit card had called the restaurant, and the manager who contacted me via email (NOT the manager we had that morning) drove out to that woman's house last night to retrieve our card. While I'm still not certain we'll return simply because the everyday service is so weak, I very much appreciate the efforts of the manager who contacted us last night. **

Went here for a quick impromptu family dinner. It's not a "true" Greek restaurant, but it has a fare share of Greek food. It was quiet (for a Tuesday) and it is a quaint little place. They have traditional tables, but also some leather couch seating, which is a nice touch. The bar is really an attractive option as well, with PLENTY of TVs for watching football, etc. The food was delicious - Gyro Platter and the Souvlaki Platter. Just the right amount of food, and the tzatziki sauce is AWESOME. Some of the best I've ever had. Price was reasonable (34 bucks for 3 people) and this included an adult beverage. Seeing as it was really slow in there, the service was a tad slow, but not awful by any means. Always nice to sit by the window and look out over Lake Anne, one of the great reasons to live in Reston.

Very pretty outside seating on the Lake Anne harbor especially at night. I am not sure why this is a Greek restaurant because there are not many greek items on the menu. Maybe they want to be Italian? (: The service was good and I can give my food 3 stars. We had the Greek salad with chicken, it was fresh, large and tasty. The pizza was thin crust and only worth 2 stars to me. Decent beer selection. The feature Dog Fish Head and Bells besides the yellow water beers.

I had lunch at Kalypso's with my family on a laid back Sunday afternoon. We were all hungry and excited to dine outside by the lake on a beautiful day. We were seated right away by a friendly German hostess and it just went downhill from there on. We never even saw our waiter until we flagged down a busboy for some water. When we finally got some water our waiter showed up and took our order. He expressionlessly stared at the ground the whole time (I could not tell if it was just a bad day or poor training, or both). While we were waiting for our food to arrive, I heard the couple next to us complaining about how long they had been waiting for their food. I think they were lucky their server was actually around to even hear their complaints because we hardly saw ours. Any visible waitstaff sat at empty tables in the restaurant and did not bother to check on any of the tables for extended periods of time. We saw a family yelling across the restaurant to grab their waiter's attention to get their check. I had at least hoped that the food would make up for the terrible service. For the appetizer we ordered the trio dip--warm pita and hummus, tzatziki, and feta spread. The hummus was good and the tzatziki tasted fresh, but the feta spread was so unbearably salty that it was inedible. While we were still eating, the waiter tried to take away our plates without even asking if we were finished (we wanted to keep the hummus for the gyro and souvlaki). I ordered the souvlaki sandwich and my flavorless pork was so dry I could barely chew it. The mixed green salad was just a plate of limp iceberg lettuce drenched in dressing. The linguini cypriana had skimpy portions of overcooked shrimp covered in mild tomato paste. I really wanted to like this restaurant but it just left a bad taste in my mouth.

When we approached this restaurant, we were greeted by a very friendly hostess. She promptly sat us and gave us our menus. After sitting around and deciding what we wanted, we all realized that we hadn't seen a waiter yet, not even to take drink orders. After asking around, we eventually had a server come to our table. He mumbled to us with a very somber disposition and took our orders. He came back with some bread (which was decent but cold) Eventually, the entrees arrived after taking a relatively long time (even though the restaurant only had a handful of patrons, if that). The gyro I ordered was pretty unremarkable while also a bit too salty. The tzatziki that came with the gyro was good (probably the best thing served at the restaurant). The pasta dish we ordered was somewhat adequate, but nothing worth noting (portions were small as well, especially considering the price). Overall, this place was not really worthwhile as the food was mediocre at best and the service was slow and dull.

Excellent food, but disorganized and clueless front of house. My husband and I had dinner there recently for the first time. The food was delicious, but the lone inexperienced waiter was in desperate need of training and help. A man we assumed was the owner or manager pitched in to help serve, but that was not enough. It took a very long time for our drinks and food to arrive. When we finished our meal, the check was brought to us without anyone asking if we wanted coffees or dessert, which we gladly would have tried. There weren't that many people there, so the slow and inconsistent service seemed the result of disorganization and lack of experience. We really want this place to succeed, but it is doomed unless they get a competent manager and wait staff.

I've heard from others that the food here is a mixed bag, but we found a variety of items (entrees, pizza and appetizers) all of good quality during a recent visit. And the location is great, especially the outdoor seating when there's live music and people strolling along the plaza. The one thing that other reviewers have said that we'll echo is that the service leaves a lot to be desired -- we wound up waiting more than 30 minutes for the check. To be fair, the restaurant is still relatively new and it was packed the night we went, but they need to work the bugs out on the table service soon.

This is a great restaurant. Fabulous food and the servers work very hard to make sure you are happy. My networking group just held a luncheon there and the owner not only made all the food she worked with us to make sure we were happy. From menu selection to formatting the room she met all of needs and exceeded our expectations. If you have had a bad experience in the past I urge you to give this place another chance.

Best Greek/Mediterranean in the area as said in some of the other reviews the Taziki sauce is fantastic!! Tried a bunch off the menu but my go to is chicken kabob or souvlacki but really cant go wrong with anything. Service is always a lil slow but the food/atmosphere is worth the lack of attention from the servers. Would and have recommended to family/friends and we all share the same feeling:)

This is the space that was once occupied by "Tavern on the Lake" which while it was once a really good spot, deteriorated quickly as the owners ran out of money, and the last six months of its existence, the food was inedible. Kalypso's is a mighty big improvement. They redid the bar itself and it just feels a lot better, a lot more light coming in. They cut out the "bar lounge" that had been put in by Tavern and replaced it with an open area leading to a waiting area lounge which fits the layout much better and makes it look like less of a townie bar than it once was. Food... I've been very impressed by everything I've had there. Gyro is good, not the best, but the pita bread and tzatki are superb. Pizza is the highlight for me actually.. I love love love their pizza. Great soft dough, crispy, and thin.. very similar to Joe's Pizza and Pasta in Vienna. Spicy Feta is my favorite appetizer by far. Drinks.. yeah, they're overpriced compared to some bars. Let's remember though that Reston is not exactly a poor area, and the rent reflects that for these businesses. Cafe Momar about 3 restaurants down charges more than them, and they own their space and have for years. But compare it to an equal restaurant in Town Center such as Clyde's or M&S, they're about the same I'd say. I think this place is absolutely fantastic when it's warmer out and you can sit outside, the bar can seem a little crowded quickly and I've never dined in the dining room, but it does look really nice. The people running this place are extremely genuine and great people.

Great for watching football on Sundays! They have the NFL Sunday Ticket and 30+ TVs, plus a great "game day menu." The gameday menu has $.50 wings which are very meaty and come in a variety of flavors. They have other great deals like a $5 burger + fries, and nachos, but you should try their wings. Besides coming to watch games, they have great outdoor seating and fantastic Greek food. I would recommend the Gyro platter (comes with bread, salad, the Gyro, and fries). They also have the best hummus I've ever had. Look out for them on Specialicious (like Groupon) because they have a lot of $15 for $30 deals. Definitely worth checking out!

Come here for the outside view and ambiance only. The food and service were both extremely lackluster. But that view, that view, that view! This is definiltey one of the most relaxing places around to enjoy a meal while sitting under white canopies and watching the kayaks and pontoon boats go by. My friends and I all thought it felt like being outside of the country in some small European town. If you need to get away from it all, you can find a nice little respite in Reston. Don't come hungry or you might starve. Basically the food is non-authentic Greek. It's more like cafeteria style food with poor presentation and inferior ingredients. How does a "Greek" restaurant make a unpalatable Greek salad? The lettuce was poor quality, there were only two olives on the plate, very little feta, and the dressing was horrible. Granted, Kalypsos' name says "Sports Tavern" but they also like to cross advertise as Greek. My expectations would be lower if it was simply a sports bar. My friend got the steak Greek salad and she thought it was bad too. The Grilled Chicken Kabobs over rice was suboptimal. Basically, the food is blah. The only interesting item on the menu was a beer that supposedly tastes just like root beer. I was unable to try it since it has gluten in it but I would have if I could have. Service was close to non-existent. The server took our order and we did not see her again until we had to ask someone else to find her so we could pay the bill.

I've wanted to try Kalypso since it opened at Lake Anne a few years ago and finally did last night. It was unfortunately a bit uneven (in most respects), but maybe this was due to it being a Saturday night with beautiful weather and a very packed house. So I'm not writing them off by any means, I will try them again, but probably not anytime really soon, and next time probably in the middle of the week when it's not going to be quite as busy. The food was good at times, not so good at others. We didn't order many things, but hopefully what we did will give you at least a sampling of what they offer. Prices are cheap, but they aren't unreasonable, especially given the fairly generous quantities that are provided. I ordered the falafel appetizer, which comes with tahini and a generous portion of freshly warmed pita slices. The falafels are very generous in size also. Many people would probably fill up on them and be fine without a main course, maybe just adding a side salad. I might consider that if I actually enjoyed the felafel. I really wanted to like it, as I'm a big fan of felafel and have been eating them a lot recently at various area eateries. I have to say that these were unfortunately some of my least favorite I've had. They are big and filling, but they are not very tasty to say the least. They are so big that the majority of what they consist of is the meal inside the felafel, which essentially tastes like a grain meal with maybe a tiny bit of chick pea mixed in? Not much spice or flavor in that or the tahini. Even worse, there seemed to be a very slightly bitter taste to the felafel. I don't know whether that was the tahini or the oil they used to fry the felafel in, but it made what would have been a mediocre dish into something I would never choose again unless I knew they had completely revamped their recipe... For the entree I had the Kalypso Greek Salmon. This came with a mixture of tomato, olives and feta on top of it, which was good. Not overly greasy or rich, and not piled so high that it completely took over the dish. It was also surprisingly not super salty, and the salmon didn't seem overly salted either. I need to watch my salt intake, so I appreciated that. Unfortunately, the middle of the salmon was undercooked to the point of being raw. This wasn't most of the salmon though, but maybe just the middle 20%, so technically it was even a smaller percentage that was undercooked. Still. I mentioned this to our server and asked that it be reheated. She asked if I just wanted a new fillet but I was a) almost full by then and b) didn't want to wait another 20 minutes (or more). I could have just left it but thought sending it back would potentially help the kitchen realize they might need to up the cooking time just a little. Entrees come with a house salad and I found mine to be good. The vinaigrette served was tasty and the salads were fresh and not your typical iceberg tragedy. My wife ordered a chicken kabob which she said was ok, nothing special, but decent. The rice accompanying both of our meals was good and cooked perfectly. The service, like the food, was a bit uneven. In general, the service was good. We didn't have to wait around much to order, to get our dishes, or to get the check, despite it being a very busy night. The servers were also generally very friendly and outgoing. The one issue we had though did kind of leave us on a slightly sour note. When we asked for the bill, we mentioned that we had an Entertainment card. Our server was not familiar with it, came back with an incorrect discount which had to be corrected. After that, her demeanor towards us was quite cold and unfriendly, which was not a good note to end on! One of the nicest parts about Kalypso is the atmosphere. It is friendly (the occasional hiccup as described above notwithstanding), lively, relaxing, and on a beautiful night like last night when you can eat at their outdoor tables, can be wonderfully pleasant. We saw lots of families and couples in a variety of ages, colors, etc. Some even brought their dogs to hang out with them. The only downside (in my point of view) to their atmosphere, is that Kalypso is also a bar, and I suppose because of this, there is a smoking section outdoors that, of course, can waft into the areas where no one is smoking. Unless you physically close off spaces for smoking, "sections" are really a misnomer. Smoking has become something so rare in the venues I go to that we are particularly sensitive to it and so it becomes a distraction to have to even occasionally breath this stuff in. Then again, this didn't happen throughout our entire meal, so I'm guessing it's just the luck of the draw when you go there - especially on a Saturday night. Otherwise, you do really feel like you are at some seaside town (given the proximity to the lake front) where everyone is on vacation, the large umbrellas shading the sun enough to keep you cool on a warm evening like last night.

It took forever to get a server's attention. I asked for hot wings and was served wings with a creamy disgusting white sauce. It tasted like the wings were flash fried instead of fully cooked. I had high hopes for this restaurant, since people in Reston reference it all the time and it looks really nice inside. We went there for my birthday and while our waiter was unbelievably awesome, the food was just "meh." We went at normal dinner time and the entire dining area was empty which was weird; just people on the other side in the bar area. It would've been a romantic and nice setting except being the only ones there in this giant room made it kind of a buzzkill. We may go back here to try it for a more casual, lunch-time experience but it was pretty disappointing.

Having family living at Lake Anne we have been to Kalypso's several times previously and not been overly impressed. We want back again this past Saturday as one of our party of 5 expressed an interest in trying it, it is very convenient as we had another commitment in the evening and there was a rumor heard that management had changed. The best that can be said of the visit was the lovely weather and view...neither credited to Kalypso's. This was a Saturday night but it was only half full and we had no difficulty getting a table...now I know why, people choose to go elsewhere. Although everyone in our party had a different entree selection we all agreed the food was generally bland. The best that can be said of the serving staff is indifferent. Our primary server spill some of my red wine on the way to the table. He not only did not return to the bar for a fresh glass he made no attempt to wipe the spill that had run down the glass and pooled on the bottom nor wipe the mess that it created when he placed it on the table. My husband was serve his soda water in a plastic glass you would expect from a fast food restaurant and it was only half full. None of our party were ever asked if we cared for an add'l beverage when our glasses were empty. Three of our party ordered appetizers that were served well after our salads with our entrees arriving almost immediately thereafter. Their option being to wolf down the appetizer, having a cooled entree or requesting items returned to the kitchen. Fortunately, with all the dining choices in the immediate Reston area we need not look to Kalypso's again.

This was some of the slowest service I have ever had at restaurant. It took 20 minutes to get salads and bread, and we had empty drinks for over 5 minutes without anyone noticing. We would have ordered more drinks...if anyone came to our table. If it was very busy I would understand, but it was not. I witnessed multiple people with the same problem, as well as the wrong food, very delayed entrees or side salads coming out a minute before the entrees. In regards to the food, it was fine but I was already not happy with the service. Oh and did I mention we saw our waitress a total of 3 times (I do appreciate the apology for not stopping by more, but unfortunately it was a little too late). The view was nice so that earned a star increase from a 1 to a 2. I will not be going back.

The food here is AMAZING! Its a chill location to go to with family or friends. I love that you can sit either inside or out. Its clean which for me is always important and the staff is charming. My husband and I had dinner here when the weather was nasty. It was nice to be welcomed in - the dining room was empty, as everyone with smarts, was at home keeping warm. We were craving Greek food, so we ordered the spanakopita and the gyro platter. Everything came picture perfect and was good to eat. The spanakopita didn't seem to be homemade, just well made, store bought fare. The platter had a good amount of food, maybe a little more greens than we expected but the gyro meat was tasty and not chewy or overcooked. The fries also seemed store bought, but well made - they were not soggy nor burnt. The service was a little bit slow considering we were the only ones in the dining room area, but we didn't mind, we were grateful that Kalypso's was open.

Decent food, though my salmon lacked seasoning. I was able to season it okay, and the salad wasn't overdressed, which I appreciate. So many places just drown their salads in dressing, when less is more. Hubby's souvlaki platter was tasty and plentiful. Service is slow, but we weren't in a rush. We had our dog with us, and though our hostess put us at the sunniest table in the place, the waitstaff were very nice and brought water, treats and attention to our dog. Made up for the sunburn I got after an hour in the direct sunlight. My only real complaint was the terrible blueberry sangria. Pretty tasteless and overpriced at $11.95. I could have sent it back, so my fault for keeping it; I was thirsty and not feeling like reordering. But I'd never drink it again. Great place to laze away an early dinner evening outside. Will come back, but will leave our dog at home so we can get a better table.

This is my second time eating here in about 4-5 years. The first time horrible and yup the second was just as horrible. I remember the service being very slow and unprofessional. This time the service was no existent. I ordered the fish tacos. Which were nasty. There was something definitely wrong with the fish. I ended up having to spit the first bit out. They did comp my entree but it took over 15 minutes just to settle our bill. It is a total shame this place is so bad. It occupies such primo real estate. The health inspector should be called I am positive it would get shut down ASAp!!!!

The staff, from when we entered to when we left was amazing; everyone was incredibly inviting and easy to talk to. Our server Jeff was AWESOME. He checked on us when we needed him to then left us to have our date night dinner just the two of us. At the end of our amazing pasta dinner Jeff came over to our table and talked to us like old friends. What a wonderful way to end our amazing meal. To top it off the owner Vicky stopped by to say hi and chatted, that's so rare these days to meet such a personable group of people. My boyfriend and I will most definitely be returning there for more date nights in the future. Excellent job Kalypso!!!

We had an enjoyable lunch today at Kalypso's...having a restaurant nearby with a view of the water is a rarity in Northern Virginia so it was really pleasant to sit in the outside dining area and take in the great view of Lake Anne. Our food was pretty good and we found the service to be without issues. The manager was quite attentive; adjusting our slightly rocky table and making sure we got our meal served without any undue delay. We will definitely be back!

Stopped in while we are the Farmers Market for some brunch. We started with the triple dip plate that has hummus, Tzatiki, and Spicy feta served with flat bread. It was excellent! We then both had a breakfast skillet that was by far the best I've ever had. Cooked on a cast iron skillet so it crusts the bottom of the eggs....Money!! Will definitely go back to try other items on their menu. Service was great and the outdoor seating are was large and shaded. We really enjoyed it.

My wife and I hosted a wedding rehearsal dinner at Kalypso's on Friday, March 27. We had 35 people there. Everything about the night was awesome. The staff was attentive, gracious, fun. We were all treated as well as I could have ever imagined. And the food was spectacular. Beef kabobs, Brandy Chicken and the grilled shrimp were all perfect. And you must try the calamari I had stopped in the day before to finally see the place for the first time (since it was all planned without ever seeing it). Nick the bartender was very knowledgeable when I asked about the beers. Thanks for introducing me to the DeChutes Fresh Squeezed IPA (I finally remembered the name)! And having a beer and pizza outside by the lake is a great way to spend some time. And a HUGE thanks to the server who dealt with my mother in law and her allergies. That can be a trying experience and it was handled quite graciously. And for getting the NCAA games on the right TVs for some fans. And thanks to Vicky and Kevin. I had been in touch with Kevin via e-mail to arrange the whole event. He understood what we wanted to do and made it all happen. He even sent me pictures of the place to know what the layout was like. It was the easiest event I've ever planned. A huge thanks to all the staff at Kalypso's for making the night one to remember. I can't recommend this place enough.

Server recommends a wine then takes a half hour for it to arrive at the table once my meal was done. I had to get the wine myself. Fish tacos have no flavor & I asked why do they come with a curry sauce. Waiter has no idea and doesn't find out. My table listened to the wait staff talk about another table wondering who's table it was. They resolved to wait until someone complained before addressing the patrons. No wine with my meal & my water was empty too. I could have sooner filled my cup from Lake Anne than summoned the waiter to refill my cup. We opted for ice cream elsewhere afterwards.

Wed 12 Nov. "Thirst & Theology" group from St Anne's Episcopal meets at Kalypso the second Wed of each month. 22 persons showed up for the Nov meeting. This a record. Kalypso handled the descent of this crowd with good grace and aplomb. There was already a group there for pizza and beer. Our group arrived and the kitchen was (probably) slammed. They handled it well, delivered good food and drink and left everyone happy. Kudos to Kalypso!

I used to like to frequent Kalypso's. However: This past week will be my last visit. We sat in the "outside bar area" which meant that table regular servers did not assist us with ordering. Instead, one of the bar tenders was helping us. I understand that it might have been a difficult serving situation, but there isn't an excuse for neglect of nearly 1/2 hour chunks of time as well as needing to close inside. A couple days later my party and I noted that there were adjustments to our tip after we signed the slips. Yikes. This behavior likely not his first time adjusting tips, just the first time he got caught. My advice: Stay away from this establishment. They said they'd refund the portion of the tip to my card, but they have yet to do so. I don't believe that this establishment is worth your trust.

This place is great! Hidden gem in old Reston. Cheers like watering hole with good Mediterranean food. Great place to hang out and drink in the summer and enjoy the lake view. Ruben sandwich is awesome so are the Charbroiled oysters.

I went to this restaurant a couple weeks ago . The TVs are everywhere and that's one good thing about this restaurant. I ordered chicken wings as an appetizer , and it took more than 20 minutes to come. The buffalo sauce was a bit nasty , it had a weird taste and the chicken was over-cooked. The server was a bit rude about it , and I didn't appreciate that. My glass of water was empty all the time , although it was slow and not too many people were there.

Went to Kalypso on a recommendation from a friend. Nice cozy atmosphere and the food was outstanding. Family restaurant with a ton of HD tvs. If it were closer to home, I would be a regular fixture next NFL season. As it is, I'll make the drive whenever I'm craving good ribs.

Kalypso's has a little bit of everything for everyone. There's the lounge area inside, a sports bar, and then a large outdoor patio area facing Lake Anne. I've mostly only experienced eating dinner on the patio area, but the sports bar looks like fun as well. The past few times I've gone to Kalypso's I've been pleastly surprised that the food is quite good and they give ample portions. My son's child size pizza was so big (and yummy!) that I took his leftovers home for lunch the next day. My mussels were good as well. I'd like to go back to watch a game one day. This is a good alternative to going to Reston Town Center (and more scenic).
