Amazing food! The teriyaki steak was so good I couldn't keep others from snatching it off my plate! The service was good. The downside is how small it is... Only a couple of tables. Luckily they take reservations so our group of six was able to be sat swiftly.

Been here many times for happy hours, dinners, bands.. Always a good crowd and never a cover.. Drinks are good prices and their nachos are rockin'! My only issue with HK is the staff isn't very welcoming and there's always issues with dining room vs the bar for seating etc.. But overall a great place on Granby St to get away from the teeny boppers and high cover charges..

3.5 Live music and no cover.

Went here just to see Jesus. And I had to look but I found him. Just like everyone said over the beer. What I didn't expect was the big 666 sign next to the bathrooms. But hey it is called Hell's Kitchen. What I didn't expect was my shot to b watered down...... Now I'm pissed. I did watch her pour it out the bottle. Soooooo now ur watering down the whole bottle of vodka.... My waitress looked lit. Another one couldn't hold on to her drinks an dropped them. Surprisely it wasn't loud as I expected. But a guy was setting up so I figure it was about to get started The food they were making looked gd. Making me wish I was hungry.

Strong drinks, great craft beer selection and excellent background music. Ginger behind the bar remembered me and my drink when I came back the next day. If I lived in Norfolk, I'd be a local here.

We had a very good meal. Atmosphere was fun; wait staff was pleasant and helpful. Great drink selection and a few local brews on tap. Recommend the she-crab soup (bisque) and tuna dishes.

Yeah, this place is legit. I haven't been there for any of the music, but even without it I'm giving it a five. As it stands, it's at least a 4-4.5. Atmosphere is great, service is attentive and friendly. Drinks are quick, and are priced well. Great happy hour deals and daily specials. I've had a handful of dishes, and haven't been disappointed by any of them - and importantly, the steak I ordered was to spec and tasty. You won't regret giving this place a try.

Dirty as hell. Walk past Hell's Kitchen there are too many bars on this strip to stop here. The tap room down the street is clean, friendly and same price... But be sure to keep walking as there are many places to stop... Just not here

Didn't know Norfolk had little pockets of gems like Hells Kitchen. When my friend suggested that we meet there, I had no idea where it was located or what it was...I went to ODU in the early 2000s and let me tell you....Granby Street is totally different! Starting with Hell's Kitchen. Just wish this place was open when I was around! Walked in and the artwork was the first thing that caught my eye. The lights were low. Open kitchen. Friendly bartenders. And a righteous beer selection. My friend ordered a sandwich and fries and I happily noshed on the crispy golden potataoey goodness. Munch...munch...munch....looking around....."IS THAT JESUS?" Yes, Jesus was staring back at me. His portrait hung over the beer selection. WOW. I would gladly visit Hell again.....

Everything here is delicious! The service was exceptional. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive and our food came out in a timely matter and you can really tell only quality ingredients are used. I liked the casual bar atmosphere. The She Crab soup is out of this world! Hands down the best I've ever had! The Buffalo Chicken Cheese Steak was phenomenal! We also tried a blackened ahi tuna wrap, southwest chicken egg rolls and their crab dip... It was ALL amazing!

Work meeting. Drinks here after. Name says it all because staffing makes this place hell. Place is small and smelled of fresh paint. Drinks were good but Ginger the bartender was s bit of a witch. Not even pleasant. If you don't like your job leave. It's lea patrons not like you not liking your job. Mystery of the night ... Sitting at bar with coworkers. Go to restroom. Return And my drink is gone. Nowhere to he found. Oh wait weird and bitchy Ginger found it on the other side of the bar. Really?! Yep...my drink. Get my drink back and it's no longer clear bit cloudy. Have to almost beg her to make me a fresh drink (mine was fu when I left and full on return). Received a fresh drink. Recommended as a hangout...probably if friendlier staff can be found.

Sooo I'm in Norfolk for travel as usual. And a friend tells me to eat here.... WHY!!! Did I wait.... I am a crabby eater lol like I love crab and HK does it right. So for my appetizer I had the crab and baguettes. The crab was super good, they didn't skimp out on anything and the baguettes came out nice and warm and soft. This made a great combination. It's enough for two people but I ate the whole thing by myself.... Yes it was just that good. THEN after going back and forth with the menu (it's so many delishous things to choose) I went for the crab sandwich with fries..... If somebody I knew was here I would have smacked them crazy!!! That sandwich was DELISH!!! I ate it slow to enjoy every moment it was in my mouth (yes I just said that) OK and the drinks.... Ginger!!! Was my bartender. She introduced herself and the other girl working the bar with her. My Jack and Sprites were just as good as my food. Perfect combination. I had great service great food great music all around a great time in Hells Kitchen

I think this place has the best crab cakes in the area. Seriously, large lumps of crabmeat with no filler. While the crab cake is always my selection, I've heard other menu selections are equally satisfactory.

This place is a little too cool for school. We definitely got a 'You want something to drink?' when I went there last. Yes, hipster, I am here for lunch, I would like something to drink. Anyway I went with a big group of people, I think there were 8 of us. Apparently they were wise to the menu and 90% of them ordered the crabcake sandwich. Because I was surrounded by it, I got to try it and it was pretty good. I had the buffalo chicken salad, with the spicy buffalo sauce on it. The chicken was pretty good, but the greens were a little wimpy and the server pretty much only offered me ranch or blue cheese dressing. I also had the garlic green beans -- now those were worth writing home about. Very very good. I think I might be heading back to eat my weight in green beans sometime soon.

Flounder fish sandwich was surprisingly good, a definite reorder if I we've make it back. Service was above average and food hit the spot. Tuna bites were over cooked but still good. Sirloin was good perfectly and all sides were delicious. Good beer selection and good music play as well. Would recommend to anyone wanting something close to waterside area.

Absolutely love this place! The atmosphere, the food, the staff, you name it, I'm for it! Started coming here about a month ago with my coworkers for lunch and sometimes after work to get some drinks. For lunch we'd always get pepperoni pizza and I can honestly say that it has never been bad. Their standards are always up to par. So, I recently took my wife out here for a date night and I ordered The Classic Hamburger and she ordered The Crab Cake Sandwich, my burger was cooked exactly the way I ordered it (Medium Rare) and it literally melted in my mouth. My wife's crab cake was fresh and excellent, cooked and seasoned to perfection, and the fries are amazing!!! I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a place to enjoy excellent food, in an atmosphere and staff that is out of the norm. Like they have printed on the back of their shirts, "The way we look, it has to be good." GO AND CHECK 'EM OUT!!!

As a vegan In this area it's hard to find places to eat something more than a salad. This place has a vegan section on the menu and all of the sides can be vegan if you ask for the broccoli and green beans not to be cooked in butter. I got the stuffed peppers with green beans and asparagus as my sides and it was all delicious, the stuffed peppers were generously filled with top quality vegan substitutes, highly recommend. Our server was friendly and checked in on us just enough, made sure to leave a good tip. The restaurant area is small so the noise can be loud, but not unbearably so. The paintings on the wall are fun to look at too! Highly recommend for an amazing meal with cool atmosphere. Definitely come here vegans!

We were looking for good "later night dining" as we rolled into Norfolk at 10 pm and this place fit the bill. We almost turned around after entering because we are 50ish and most everyone in there was tattooed and late 20s (ok a few straggling business people creeping up on 40 were sprinkled in). And a loud band was tuning up. However we stayed and everyone was super nice- the crowd was happy and chill. Besides we can be hip too and used to only listen to the loudest music( live and in headphones) just a few years back. so........ The wait staff was extremely friendly. Wine list good and a nice generous pour I might say. Good quality stiff G&T for the hubby. We both got the recommended crabcake sandwich and it was terrific - fresh, tasty, no filler, nice bun, served with hand cut round fried potatoes which were fluffy on the inside and a nice bit of crispy on the outside. Nice lemony sauce on the side for the crabcake. Loud band cranked up soon after we finished and we listened for a couple of songs and left. All in all interesting place with nice food, drinks, and people...even if you are 50ish. Three stars because it wasn't really our scene and band tuning up for an hour was annoying..But good local place to support.

Gotta appreciate any place where there's no cover charge and serves real food late night. This place is loud since it's pretty small and the band seems to set up right smack in the middle of the place (no stage here!). But it gave a nice intimate vibe which can be hard to find. Nice diverse crowd. Service was great. My friends and I went here after a hockey game at the Scope and we were surprisingly served pretty promptly after sitting down. She even came right back with my ranch and BBQ sauce request. Food was decent, but beware that the french fries are actually potato coins...and my friend only got 5 of them with his burger. Yes, we counted.

Hells Kitchen is a decent joint for dinner or drinks. There's nothing outwardly spectacular about it but there's nothing that would deter me from going there again. I met a friend for dinner and drinks. It was pretty packed for a Wednesday night so we sat at the bar. I had a salad, it was good, but it was a salad lol. The food and drinks were moderately priced, and the bartender was very friendly and efficient. The bathroom was clean...I'm a stickler for clean bathrooms (who isn't really?). But there are far too many establishments who don't keep up properly with bathroom cleanliness. Hells Kitchen is NOT one of those places. All in all I would and probably will return. I'm not as close as I used to be but if I'm in downtown Norfolk and hungry or thirsty I will stop in.

Stopped in for a very quick late lunch. I was intrigued by the name and darkness of the place. It is a good time to go there now as they've got it all decked out for Halloween. It wasn't busy, but it was 2:30 in the afternoon after all. The menu was quite extensive offering sandwiches, soups, salads, and wraps. They even had a small vegan section. I took a quick peek at the dinner menu and it looked as though they had a wide variety at approx $25 per entree. I had the veggie plate appetizer as my lunch and my colleague had the she-crab soup. The veggies were grilled nicely and served over mashed potatoes with garlic and Parmesan cheese. It was good but a little heavy handed on the olive oil. My colleague said the soup was fantastic! The waiter was very personable laid back. The music is loud, but good. Overall not a bad spot for a quick bite. I think it would also be a great spot to grab a late night drink!

Love this place. We ordered the seafood nachos on a whim...SO DELICIOUS. They also have weeknight specials...we went on a Monday and got buy-1-get-1 craft beers!

  • Douglas B.

During the day this place has great food and decent service. I ordered the she crab soup and buffalo chicken philly with hell sauce I was very impressed with both. The she crab was one of the best bowls I have ever ordered. The buffalo chicken Philly was a generous portion the chicken was of good quality and the sauce was delicious although not as spicy as the name would suggest it was a great medium tempered buffalo sauce. On Mondays they have 1/2 off craft brews but what they won't tell you is that it applies to bottles only they will pour it in a glass for you so just be aware. Late night at this place is a little different the bands are usually good but around midnight the food quality really goes down me and my friend ordered the wings and she crab nachos the wings were good just a tad overcooked but sauced well. The she crab nachos left something to be desired since only about 4 chips were filled with crab soup and the rest were just regular nachos.

Hell's Kitchen is one of my favorite lunch spots in Downtown Norfolk. Their seafood nachos are a great appetizer to share and I always order the crab cake sandwich when I'm there. Their crab cake sandwich is the best ever!! I've tried a lot of crab cake sandwiches in the area and nothing compares. It's all big lumps of crab meat, very little filler, not deep fried, and what makes the sandwich different from the rest is the sauce. It's like a Spicy Cajun ranch. Very yummy!!

  • Steph W.

Probably the number one reason why I like this place is because they have the wonderful Chicago 312 beer. I had the tuna steak sandwich which was fantastic! Their green beans are just so...ugh...so good. The service was good. It didn't create an impression but they didn't make me mad either. I also had the seafood nachos. Why? Because beef and chicken nachos are for n3wBz. It was AWESOME. I love you, Hell's Kitchen.

Went there for happy hr before Harborfest and place was pretty busy. Great drink specials before 7PM. Only had wings(Spicy Garlic & Old Bay). Must say the Old bay was pretty tasty. Our waitress was on the ball when it came to keeping our drinks coming. Would like to go back and try other things on the menu. One couple had the seafood mac & cheese and it looked delicious!

Eh. It's OK. Not a fan of the interior, it was dark, but not in a trendy sort of way. It almost had a seedy feel to it, which is weird, because I understand that this is a pretty popular place. But the decor seemed like an afterthought, and I was turned off by the weird black rubber tiled floors - they just made me feel like I was in an auto shop. And there was stuff all over it. I hope that the night we went was an off night, because it just felt kind of dirty to me. (My menu had a big wet splotch of ketchup on it that I put my fingers in as I picked it up, my fork was dirty, and the table next to me was soaking wet - it had been cleared off and had a new set of utensils and napkins - all of which were soaked.) That said, the food was good. Not rave-worthy, but decent. I got a grilled burrito with gardein (a vegan chicken-style substitute) which was pretty flavorful and had good texture. It came with a side of grilled asparagus, which were prepared well. The garlic green beans were the best part of the meal. I was grateful that they offered 5 or 6 different vegetarian options. Because there are a lot of places that offer really great vegan options here in Norfolk, and have great ambience, I don't know that I'll come back to Hell's Kitchen.

I'm visiting Norfolk on a business trip, so I'm always trying to find the best local spots. Someone suggested Hell's Kitchen, and I'm glad they did. The atmosphere was right up my alley (put it this way, I like rock). I had the she-crab cup of soup as an appetizer. While it wasn't as hot as it should be, it tasted great. They put lump crab on top...it was fresh and was a great starter to my main course. For my main course, I had the stuffed peppers, which was a vegan option. A whole green pepper cut in half and stuffed w/ fake meat, tomatoes, onions, and topped w/ vegan cheese (I had real cheese). It was good, but was a little too tomato-ish. It came with 2 sides. I got the asparagus (it was lightly grilled) and fresh garlic green beans (a little plain and could have been a little more garlicky). While it wasn't the most delicious meal, I enjoyed it's uniqueness. If Hell's Kitchen could improve their recipes a bit, this place would definitely be 5 stars. If you're visiting Norfolk, I'd recommend giving Hell's Kitchen a try.

Stopped for a early dinner. Cool place. Service was good although it wasn't busy, so tough to judge. I liked the menu - a fair amount of choices, everything from burgers and wraps, pizzas to full dinners. Good beer section. I thought it was slightly overpriced, but not too bad. Restrooms are "one-holers" which always annoys me for a bar. But, I'd go back.

This place was great! Service was a tad slow but once the food came I was good to go. Good drinks, excellent steak an potatoes. Can't wait to go back! I heard their happy hour is awesome.

  • Paul J.

I had an excellent dinner here. Quite tasteful, really good veggies, and the service was friendly and fast. The place is a bit noisy, so if your into some serious discussion, not a good choice. They have a wide selection of meals and sandwiches.

  • Patrick K.

We were advised to have dinner here by Kaitlin (barkeep from another establishment, see my reviews). Boy was she right. The food was incredible. I had the seafood Alfredo from the selections. The sauce was very creamy, the shrimp were flaky and tender (the way they should be) and the crab was seasoned perfect (and cleaned properly). After having some great seafood on our trip, this place knocked it out of the park. The chefs (not just cooks) turn out some awesome food. I enjoyed samples off of my wife's plate and was not disappointed. The service was top notch. Our server shared some great stories and was always there to keep our glasses full. The atmosphere and music were fun to experience, especially with the Halloween motif. There were also four police officers enjoying their meals. What can be bad about a place that draws cops to Hell? To answer the most pressing question. Would I go back? Hell ya. And I would definitely recommend it to anyone that wants to have a great time and wonderful food.

Two words: Seafood nachos. Drenched in the house she-crab soup, these are a must-try, especially if you can sneak it for a happy house special and get them for half off. Just don't burn yourself on the sizzling top plate. I speak from experience! If you're a vegetarian or vegan, this is a reliable spot for tasty food. My veggie friend and I regularly ordered their pizzas, but with faux chicken in place of the normal stuff. Always tasty. Excellent martinis and house cocktails, too. Order a couple of special shots - one of the bartenders will even set them on fire for you if it's a special occasion. The live music on the weekends can be a little overly loud for the space, but the bands are usually pretty damn good. Saturday's show had a nice country-rock flavor to it.

  • Martina D.

Although we are often there to drink and spend time with friends, the food is wonderful. I generally opt for the crab cake sandwich, sometimes the crab cakes as an entree. My husband loves their wings, especially on all you can eat nights! It is very loud when there's a band, but we go there expecting that!

Lunch? Check! Happy hour? Fo sho! Local music? You bet! Hell's Kitchen in Norfolk is a great restaurant, bar and hang out. Lunch is popular for the Downtown Norfolk work crowd, as well as after-work drinks. I really enjoy HK for the live music. They support local artists, many of my friends play there regularly. On a Friday or Saturday night, you're likely to find something interesting going on there. It's a bit more low key than the other nightlife on Granby Street. You don't need stilettos and all your bling. Just relax in your jeans, it's not a see-and-be-seen type place. There's always a good crowd and the wait staff is reliably attentive and friendly.

  • Lillith B.

Love the atmosphere and decor of this place! Service is consistently good and drinks are mixed well. Thankfully there is a small vegan section. Which I love how most of it is "Southern/Homestyle" food, instead of the usual ultra healthy that you find at other venues. I am hoping that they will rotate some of the vegan food,. This is one of the few venues that I have found in the area that doesn't have a sports bar atmosphere, and has a darker look to it.

    (5)
  • Dirk J.

The beer was good - but they don't make that here. I had the fish sandwich. I recommend that you try something else. The crab-cake sandwich seems to get good reviews. This seems like a place that is a lot better when it's crowded, noisy, you're with a bunch of people and you're half drunk. One more item. I recommend they clean the place especially behind the counter.

  • Bill C.

Great bar in downtown Norfolk. I haven't been there in a little while, but I was going regularly for years. The food is delicious and the bartenders are wonderful. The only downside is going when there is live music. The bar is just too small for a full live band and it can get too loud to talk to anyone without screaming in their ear. I'd recommend going on a weekday.

  • Jennifer B.

One of the only places open midweek after about 10pm! Strong drinks, yummy crab dip, and DON'T miss the spicy garlic wings.. I don't like wings but I couldn't get over how good these were!

  • Chuck K.

As a man who bears many titles, this place caters to them all. Hardcore Punk, Vegan, Heavily Tattoo Freak, Metal Head, Beer Drinker, and Music Lover. All were very satisfied. The staff were very friendly, helpful and attentive. The Vegan Buffalo Fickin pizza with Hell Sauce is not on the menu, but was made upon my request wihout hesitation or retaliation. It was delicious!!! My girlfriend who is not a vegan and one of the biggest and pickiest Buffalo Wings connisseur was completely floored by their wings. She was enamored by them. Not a easy task. This place has a great vibe, very cool decorum, top notch menu and one of the best beer selections in Norfolk. It reminds me of some of my old hangouts in Hell's Kitchen and L.E.S in NYC so much it makes me homesick. Even though it is nestled in the corporate business part of Norfolk, the only long sleeves required are the ones made of ink. and the only things stuffed are the wonderful peppers. Hands down the best Norfolk has to offer.

  • Kim M.

This is going on our favorite happy hour spot rotation. We came in on a Friday night (kind of early, since we were going to a Tides games). There were a few other people in the place, but most of the tables were empty. We liked the feel of the place, which had the sort of factory-turned-rock-venue feel that you get in a couple of the Ghent restaurants: brick walls lined with music posters and high ceilings. As for the food: we were both pretty happy with the price, quantity and quality. I had a tuna steak sandwich and my husband had a buffalo chicken sandwich, and we both left full and happy. Oh, did I mention magraritas? So many margaritas . . . . awesome!

  • Jomo K.

OK. I'm in Norfolk for 24 hours. Why had I not heard of this place? And why did the hotel concierge not mention this as an option for lunch? (She recommended an IHOPish type spot- BORING. I'll write about the SERVICE at the Sheraton later- BOOOOO). Great food...and they master the decor and ambiance. You want a bar that serves great food...somewhere you can bring a client, or a wife AND 2month old infant, or a good friend for lunch??? Well, I'd bring them all here! (I chose the wifey and baby). The food- great. The service- great. It's not the cozy, white table cloth spot. It's the place where you want a great lunch, a great beverage and great service. I could be very cliche'ish, when describing "Hell's Kitchen", but I won't. I'll just say that EVERYONE should feel welcome and EVERYONE will enjoy their meal. Don't expect the warm and cozy feel...expect an open area, decent tables, interesting art, and very nice (and attractive) servers I was only in town for a day and I hate I didn't get to experience the night scene or the happy hour scene. Why 5 stars? "THEY WERE who we thought THEY WERE!" No surprises! Just great food and great service. Food choices: (Lunch) I had the Buffalo Chicken Sub (and a couple of pints) and the wife had the Seafood Nachos and a Ginger Beer. My lunch- PERFECT. The wife said her's was very good....but not GREAT. I tasted hers and I fully enjoyed it. She really wanted the Seafood Mac-n-Cheese but opted for the nachos instead. My thoughts- you must give Hell's Kitchen a try if you're in town.

  • Jake P.

We go here almost every night we go out (or at least end up here) there is always pretty decent (at a minimum) live music and the crowd you can't beat... Jomo hit it right on the head for the daytime scene (sadly you missed coming out at night) DEFINITELY COME HERE... NO LINE TO ENTER AND A GREAT TIME AND GREAT LIVE MUSIC!!!

A fun place. Absolutely great staff, super friendly, funny and thoughtful. Very eclectic crowd, many interesting conversations going on at the bar. Nice beer selection. Food was just ok. She crab soup had lots of crab, but also lots of floury lumps. The chicken cheesesteak was pretty ordinary. But the great crowd made up for the ordinary cuisine. I would definitely go back.

Lived in the 7citys area for 2yrs & never ate here...what was i thinking!!! Me & my boyfriend went to this place on a whim while we were back in town for a visit. The crab soup was great (as a fellow marylander i know my crab) it was made with a cream base instead of the traditional tomato base. we also had the crab dip & crab cakes & lemon pepper wings...(my 8yr old daughter loved the wings). The staff is cool hip & ecclectic if you dont mind tattooed guys & gals serving you then this is your spot. I enjoyed the experience & the atmosphere. I dont think they have a kids menu me & my daughter just shared the wings & dip & she seemed just fine with it :) just FYI

Hell's Kitchen is a cool place with a fun, local feel. The inside of the place is awesome with a nice bar on the left wall and a few booths and then a separate room with more tables and chairs and an area that converts into a stage. There is a nice, big steel kitchen that's exposed in the back - I always like when you can see the kitchen, just gives the restaurant a cool vibe. Also some of the walls are exposed brick and I am a total sucker for that look. The night I went I was hanging out with a bunch of friends who all wanted to go there to see a band. The place was definitely crowded, but it wasn't so bad that you couldn't move. I was able to get a few beers at the bar after waiting just a little bit in line, so the service was quick. They have a decent amount of beer to pick from (drafts and bottles) and serve most of the standard liquor drinks. I have friends that have tried the food and love it, but I haven't had any of it quiet yet. My goal is too go back though, try some food and catch another band. Definitely a place worth checking out!

Stopped in for a quick beer and snack on an early Monday evening. Sat at bar - bartender provided good service. Good crowd for a Monday. Nice draft selection. Had the she-crab soup based on reviews. It was really good but fairly heavy - I want to check the nutritional values to see if I`m clogging my arteries - hope not! Couldn't stay long but I liked the place.

I'm coming back to revamp my previous review. My first lunch experience here was garbage. I got the seafood nachos and it was a seafood cheese brick. Today I went back with a friend and had the "special" which was some fancy version of prawn and bacon in a wrap with asparagus and it was mouth heaven. You win this time Hells Kitchen, well played.

  • Shannon H.

I liked the feel of the restaurant, the staff was great the food was B- B+ grade. The seafood nachos were GREAT! must order appetizer The crabcakes were suggested by our server. I would say they were OK, not the best i ever had but not gross. I got the steak and cake. The steak was GREAT and I couldnt get enough of the mashed potatoes. The place gets packed late night on a friday and seems to be a younger crowd. I would suggest trying it out for yourself.

You have to be a particular type of person to enjoy this place. The darkness, the music, the pictures....not for the general public. Do not bring your kids here! This is where you go to get smashed, not to enjoy a decent family meal. Having said that, i bet this place is fun on Halloween's night.

Awesome place! Food was outstanding - we got the Southwest Eggrolls as an appetizer which were phenomenal & the spicy ranch was the perfect dipping sauce. For our meals we got the Seafood Mac & Cheese and the BBQ Burrito - once again, both were fantastic. In addition to the food, great drinks, really cool atmosphere/design, & great service/friendly staff - a must try, highly recommend!

Beer was cold, food was less than desirable. We only got salads which weren't special. The chili was a solid cold blob. I will say that their wings were super yummy, crispy. I think this place is a great bar, they have live music at night. Decent bar food, but not a good choice for an actual dining experience.

So I've been here about three times since December and it was mostly for friends. When it's not busy there is plenty of space and the setting is a little more intimate with the dim lights and such. However, on weekend and busy nights, it's crowded, musty, and no seating to be found!! The taste of the drinks is good but the price is bad. A friend ordered a round of shots 4 and paid $25. Just seems a little pricey for the area. The food is priced better and quite delicious. Honestly, I've only had the crab soup but I must say that it is AMAZING!! Highly recommended!

Service with a smile and fast fresh food, served by some very friendly staff. Live music by great local acts, both cover and original. A cool little feature is that on their TV's, they show pictures of the different fun nights and bands that have played Thursday through Saturday. My friends and I have visited this local watering hole several times before and after concerts at the Norva. It is well worth the short walk down Granby St!

Solid night out. Went for a surprise birthday for a friend, waitress kept the drinks coming even tho we were a large bunch. Most of the men spent the night distracted by the well endowed, low cut top-wearing waitress. "hell" spicy wings were spicy but not to the point that they were unenjoyable. Steak Cesar salad was solid, nothing special but not horrible either. Looking forward to going back.

Been here twice and it's been great each time. The food has been delicious each time (lobster Mac and cheese, nachos, burrito among my favorites) and they always have a few good craft beers on tap which is a big plus. It's a cool atmosphere with a devilish kind of rock and roll feel to it (hence the name). Tuesday is all you can eat wings and live music on Saturdays!

Only of the only open restaurants we could find on Granby that was open late on Sundays. Nice ambiance and decent food. Nothing spectacular but I would come back.

Went to this place twice for dinner in a week. Very good place for drinking and the music. Love the wings and crab cakes, seafood pot pie is so-so.

We got sent here after we went to Trilogy only to get there right when the kitchen closed...and I was surprised that the food was so good. You could tell that the employees at HK were very close, and everyone was very nice and helpful. The food was good for it being almost 11PM. The only issue was the music: it was horrible! Way too loud and way too...tone deaf. Other than that, it was a great time!

Hell's Kitchen is a cool little spot on Granby Street in Norfolk. It's located a bit down from the area between City Hall Ave and Brambleton, meaning to say that it's not filled with the pretentiousness that can encompass that whole stretch of Granby on the weekends. This is a welcome respite. I genuinely like the inside of the place which is broken into two major sections. The first section, the one where you walk in, has a giant bar and the bartenders are pretty quick to get to you. This is cool. I feel I can relax here and down a few beers. The other area is mostly for live entertainment and I've seen several really cool bands there. The place looks as though it shouldn't have good acoustics, but surprisingly, it does. I definitely recommend checking out the nighttime activities at Hell's Kitchen.

Good food and excellent service. I had the warm crab dip and it was very good,a tad too salty but that's just a preference. My friend had the crab cake sandwich, and he said it was great. The atmosphere was a little kinky but that was what it was going for. Over all j would recommend it!!

I wish I could give this place more stars but I simply don't have it in me. Hell's Kitchen receives 3 stars by me based on food, and food alone. While visiting the Norfolk area and wanted to try something different so we researched this joint. I had no idea how divey it would be upon arrival. Blasting heavy metal from every corner, dark lightening, and empty spaces. For a 'hip' place 8pm on a Saturday it was completely dead. After walking in, we were told to seat ourselves so we sat at a high top table across from the open kitchen. Our server (the bartender) greeted us promptly. I asked for a water as we looked over the beer list. He came back shortly after to take our drink order (still no water when I mentioned I would like a water (again) when he had a moment). I ordered the A1 Steak Caesar and my boyfriend bad the Seafood Stack. Being completely empty, the food was quick, hot, and fresh- made to order. My steak was cooked to perfection; his seafood with a slight kick and the fries were TO DIE FOR. When the bartender came to check on us again, I reordered my water for a 3rd time in which he finally brought it. All in all, the food was amazing. It wasn't our typical place we would have dined at on vacation. The music was way too loud for our liking, the service was just okay; but the ambiance was dark and I felt dirty leaving.

Hells Kitchen - Norfolk, VA - 8/5/2015 This is a local diver bar downtown that is a popular watering hole every time business brings me to Norfolk. There really is not much in the way of "decor"... There is a large bar on the left as you walk in towards the back and a small dining room on the right. Service is friendly and the service has always been good. They do serve a variety of bar food. I've had lunches here and dinner. Tonight it was just a social gathering with coworkers. So next time you are in the area looking for that divvy bar to just hang out where you can wear jeans and a TeeShirts and sport your tats... This is your place... We will be back...

Was here a few times last week due to being in town for a Convention. First time I couldn't stand being there. It was crowded, small, the band was wayyyy too loud and so not worth it. Second time I was assured that the food was awesome. So we went for dinner and to start the night out. Everyone ordered something different and all were enjoyed. The portions are large and enough to share. I had the crap dip appetizer YUM! Staff was accommodating to our large group for food and attentive. They even split the checks which was appreciated.

I was expecting something different with a name like Hell's Kitchen, but what I saw was much more pleasant. This is a neighborhood gastropub. Yep, they have a decent menu of food that isn't just bar grub. And while they have a full bar, there is also a decent selection of draft and bottled beers. For some reason, the Buffalo Chicken Cheese Steak jumped off the menu and said "Eat me!" so that's what I ordered. And when she asked "Mild or Hot?" I went with hot. And with fries. What arrived was a nice sized sub well loaded in shredded and grilled chicken. And it was hot. Hot enough that I consumed almost all of my chips (which were fresh from the fryer, very hot and very crisp) to cool down my tongue. Not complaining - it was what I asked for and what I wanted and I enjoyed the, uh, hell, out of it. With a name like Hell's Kitchen, I chose a beer from Devil's Backbone of course. Their Vienna Lager was on tap. And I had a taste of a chocolate peanut butter stout but even two ounces of that was not tasty. Good food and good service. Hell's Kitchen is a nice place!

Just had the Seafood Alfedo, and I didn't put my fork down to breath. So delicious, I tried not to eat it all, but I couldn't stop myself. Eating solo, I was entertained by the hilarious Memes that flashed across the TV monitor. If I come back to Norfolk, I'm def coming back here

TL;DR: food was awesome, drinks were ok, service was fine. First time here. Place looks nice and has a "sinful" atmosphere to get you ready for the mistakes you will be making tonight. We were told to sit where we wanted so we sat by the window and right across from the kitchen, I don't like places where they tell you to sit wherever because they are bound to forget about you... And it did happen. After few minutes I had to flag down a server and ask if anyone was going to serve us and she said the other server will be right over with us... But she did not. When server 1 came back she decided to ask us for our drinks and we got that going. We ordered forbidden fruit and Blasphemule... They were ok. Nothing wrong with them, just a personal taste, I'm sure other people would like them. We didn't. But for $9 a drink, u r damn right we finished them :/ We ordered the cheesesteak sub with a side of mash potatoes and a spicy buffalo chicken sandwich with a side of cut fries. The food was OUTSTANDING !!!! The mash potatoes were ridiculously good, the cheesesteak sandwich was good and the chicken sandwich was very good, it could have been spicier but then again that is a personal taste opinion, the cut fries were really good. We will definitely be coming back here again. Probably stick with beer next time though.

Local place in Norfolk that has a great beer selection and great food. Service was kind of lacking, but no complaints about the food. I recommend the steak and cake, which is an 8oz filet and and a crab cake that is dank de la dank. For appetizers, the wings are delicious!

The restaurant was very slow. Food served was not the same as was stated on the menu (as in the egg rolls had cheese). Seems Ike the place is all about booby waitresses. BTW, don't moisten the black paper napkins to daub a spot off your shirt. The napkins run and leave a big stain.

  • Monica B.

Over all I was not pleased with the service, and the food was not over the top either. The servers where very ditzy, and didn't seem to pleased to be there. They had some local draft beers that a person at my table wanted to sample of before deciding which one to go with. Just a sip in a cup to see if he liked the taste before ordering a whole glass. She kind of just sat there and stared at him, and didn't say anything. So at that point we where just like forget it. The food was slow to come out, and there was nothing special about it. Once we where done with our food. The waitress came up and said "So are you guys just going to chill out now or what". I felt rushed to leave the place. There was not exceptional about the food or the staff!!

In the area for work, decided to give it a try, we should have walked back out after walking back in, it felt like we were in a college kids basement, kind of dirty atmosphere,, the staff did not seem to have any systems, or set jobs, the waitresses would be both the servers and the bartenders, they would go back and forth from the dining room to behind the bar, the kitchen was open, they seemed to be working hard but with the bad system in place that night I watched the food pile up on the counter as the servers ran around the room from the bar to the tables, I sat watching flies land on all the food as it was waiting on the servers, The food was below par, it seemed like it was frozen food from the grocery store that was placed on the fryer, the burger tasted like rubber,,, the fries had way too much salt on them as if the top of the shaker fell off when putting salt on them, couldn't eat much of it, we paid out check and left

  • Lyndamaria M.

There's only so much the wait/bar staff can do, in the end it all comes down to the kitchen in a restaurant. My fiance Ordered his steak medium well, it came out pretty rare... like almost still mooing. so we told them, usually they would cook a whole new steak... they asked if we minded if they just cooked uo the sane steak... uhh... really? On top of that, they have a continuous slide show of girls grabbing each other and inappropriate pictures on their tvs. Needless to say, we won't be back. It reminded us of a "before" bar rescue. Wait and bar staff are sweet ladies, drinks are pretty good, but food... sucks.. I had the seafood mac n cheese, it's good but nothing spectacular.

If you're looking to check this place out because of the happy hour, reconsider. The appetizers are half-priced because the portion sizes are chopped in half. The $2 margaritas aren't margaritas at all, but tiny cups of artificially-flavored room-temperature sadness. Just pay the extra and get a full-sized drink off of the overpriced drink menu. The seafood nachos are great!! nice clumps of crab, & the she-crab soup drizzle is tasty. & as it turns out, the happy hour half portion is more than enough food to share between 2 people... but the final verdict is a "Meh", because the servers are neither friendly nor particularly attentive.

The crab cake which was beyond this world delicious! The house salad that I had it on was also very good, not over populated with "stuff" and fillers. My coworker had the wings which looked OK but I am far from a fan of any kind of wing much less hot sauce. The menu is varied, but the prices are kind of steep.

First time I have ever been to this restaurant and I would gladly visit again. Some of the items are pricey but they have a good selection of things that are reasonably priced. I had the 6 oz Sirloin with steak fries and steamed broccoli. Everything was served in a fast manner and cooked to order. It's been awhile that I ordered medium well and that's how my order came out. Very well seasoned and full of moist flavor. I also enjoyed the decor. Nice pieces of art on the walls. Exposed brick and steel. Very warm and cozy. Our waitress was very efficient. No wondering where she was at. Very enjoyable experience. Only downside was a group of noisy patrons who had to cheer constantly during our meal. However, I don't blame the restaurant staff for that. Overall, well pleased and I'm looking forward to coming back.

A cool place to have a drink with friends. Went on a Saturday and it was loud and busy. Staff was friendly and the seafood Mac n cheese was pretty good. Quite rich and filling though. I really came here hoping to find Gordon Ramsay's trademark but I heard this bar actually predates GR's restaurants. Bummer. Worth a visit and I wouldn't mind hearing the live music next time.

First time here, I had the steak & cake - it was phenomenal! The filet was melt in your mouth & the crab cake was all delicious lump crab, not filler. So good & if I'm in the area again I will definitely make it a point to stop back in here. Loved it & our waitress was super, I went to look on the receipt for her name to give her some praise & it's listed as Fuzzy Wuzzy. So, whatever her real name is, she was great :)

Sometimes fate has it cut out for you. My friends and I originally drove into Norfolk from VA Beach to go to another restaurant. Unfortunately, it was closed. Scrambling to find a new place to get some lunch, out hungry selves stumbled upon Hell's Kitchen. The rest, as they say, is history. Like a good movie, the key marker of a good restaurant for me is if they can 1. Provide substance through good food, and 2. if I can be entertained enough to make me want to come back. Hell's Kitchen fits that bill. We arrived well past the normal lunch hour and the restaurant was pretty empty expect for a few people at the bar. "All good" we thought, we'll just pop in and pop out. Instead, we ended up wanting to stay longer than we ever could realistically. First, the substance: the menu is pretty standard American pub/casual fare - burgers, pizzas, sandwiches, wings etc.: unpretentious food you secretly crave but still sometimes feel guilty for ordering. I got myself a buffalo chicken pizza while my friends got a mix of sandwiches and burgers. My pizza solid. No, the crust wasn't mega crisp and the flavours weren't mind blowing, but it was a solid pizza. I did like the hell sauce I got with the pizza though. It was what a true hot sauce should be. Yeah, it made me sweat a little and my nose run, but it was still tasty as hell (pardon the pun). I could probably put that stuff on everything if I could. Like I said earlier, a restaurant doesn't merit a high rating unless it can make me want to come back for more. Well, the food itself would warrant that for me, but what sealed the deal was the service. To out server Ratmilk Jaxson, you are what made the trip worth it for all of us. It's a rare day when you find someone who has the charisma and obvious love of what they do nowadays. Hot only was he one of the most attentive servers I have ever had, but one of the best overall. He made us laugh, was witty, and he even offered to get me a unicorn if I wanted- "Could I get some extra hell sauce?" "Of course, brother. If you want a unicorn, I can get you a unicorn if you want." I didn't take him up on his offer, but I seriously would not be surprised if he had the ability to lead out some mythical beast. he was that good. As for the space itself, Hell's kitchen is part restaurant and part entertainment/music venue. Exposed brick, monitors showing memes, and a general tough guy atmosphere, it might not appeal to all, but I liked it. Finally comes value. My pizza ran $11 and it was more than a generous portion. My friend's dishes also ran around $10 which, being from DC, felt like a steal. Having left once both full and entertained, I would return to Hell's Kitchen in a heartbeat.

Good food and atmosphere. Had the crab dip and egg rolls for an appetizer- I don't even like crab and this was amazing as were the egg rolls. Dinner was good- a1 wrap with fries. If they have it, the Sweet Baby Jesus porter is also a must!

I've been coming here since 2002 and have never been disappointed. Some of my favorites on the menu are the A-1 steak wrap, crab cakes, asparagus, garlic green beans, crab cake sandwich, wings, and the fries! I love the flat circular cut fries. Used to go here before shows at the Norva when I lived in in Norfolk. Now visit once or twice a year. Still just as good and still have great specials and live music.

The service was fine, and the building is kind of cool. Some of the "artwork" was interesting and caught my attention. I also like the small size of the place. The problem was the food. The food was disappointing. Fish was mushy and with the sides the plate was a very small portion for the price. I left hungry. Overall, it is a decent place for meeting up with friends, having a drink and an appetizer, but I do not recommend dinner.

I once spent Christmas Eve here. It was a dark and rainy December 24th. I decided to stick around town, and take a trip for New Year's instead. I was walking along the quay wall of the nearby yachts and USS Wisconsin. I figured it would be funny to go to a bar on Xmas eve - but none were open. Then I saw the red-hot poker colored neon "HK" light of Hell's Kitchen. The service staff were just as awesome as always - friendly and knowledgeable about their own menu. The bar staff was exceptionally fun that night...even though I was only one of 5 other sad patrons there that evening. Hell's Kitchen has a great location, in my opinion. They are away from the craziness of Scotty Quixx/Fahrenheit, as well as away from the creepiness of the Waterside 18 year old and up bars. HK is right in between those areas, is close to the mall, and also is nestled in historic Norfolk architecture. HK isn't huge, but it's cozy, and still has room for a bar, live music, and a sit-down restaurant area. This is definitely an "alternative" type place, with the wild and colorful art (for sale) on the walls, and the ambiance of something dark. There is a mix of brick, black, and red in the walls. The food is fantastic. I brought some friends here for their first time, and they had great things to say. The appetizers, the main dishes are all great... Favorite Appetizers: Southwest Eggrolls and the Crab Dip with Baguette Favorite Main: Crab Cakes (although the wings are amazing too) They offer a full bar, and even have the East coast favorite Yuengling. The service here is quick and professional. I always stop in when I'm in town!

Food was great. Server was wonderful. Manager... was awful. How do you sit a party of 8 in 2 different booths back to back? I had my husband's going away party for his deployment... epic fail but luckily my husband had to take over and demand a new seating arrangement. Never will we return.

My friends and I were in town for a graduation at EVMS. We stopped here for lunch this past Saturday. This bar/restaurant has a very "eating inside a hot topic" vibe. The food was as expected; I had the buffalo chicken wrap and it was tasty. I'd recommend this place for a quick bite, or a quick pint.

I've had a few people along life's path tell me to go to Hell...well, I'm in the kitchen (eating a buffalo chicken cheesesteak)... So how was it...Meh! I think the best description of this place being a hipster type bar is accurate, however not a "gastropub" in the true sense that the food here is certainly not upscale. Yes they have crab cakes (which I didn't have), however the waitress said the best seller was the buffalo chicken cheese steak. It was simply chopped chicken "steak-ums" on a roll with cheese and very bland buffalo sauce. Speaking of waitress...while very sparkly, I was a little offended in her put-off attitude at my drink choice and telling me THREE TIMES that my ginger beer was NON-Alcoholic like I was committing a sin ordering something alcohol free! If you're looking for a hipster bar that serves up more that just pretzels on the bar and good music this is the place, but if your looking for a true gastropub or decent meal...commit your sins of gluttony someplace else!

Decided to stop in for lunch in the middle of the week and the place was DEAD only myself and some drunk guy in a business suit. It was a little awkward at first because of all the random stupid comments he was making about the waitresses and life. He sure couldn't stop talking about Ginger's rack. LoL...Anyway I had the Blackened Tuna Wrap and it was VERY good I'd recommend it and their sliced potato fries are good too. ***What made my day after eating at the bar was looking up and seeing the Jesus portrait behind all of the beers! LMAO. "Protector of the beers" and then if you look closely, it looks as if he is looking up at his mother, dancing on the top shelf. (mini Virgin Mary figurine). Overall the place has a very hipster feel to it almost like when you ask yourself walking through the door if you should be in there or not.

Found this gem thanks to Yelp while on vacation. The service was fantastic...drinks were refilled without us asking, and our waitress was attentive and friendly. My husband and I both had variations of buffalo chicken. He had the buffalo chicken sandwich hot, and I had the buffalo chicken wrap mild. We were both satisfied with our meals. 2 sandwiches w/ sides, a beer, and a diet coke and our meal was less than $25. Wish we lived in the area. The atmosphere was very cool.

This was my first trip to Hell's Kitchen, and I must say..I'm impressed! I stumbled upon this place after walking around on Granby street, and was starving..so I figured, why not!? This place has such a cool vibe, they play great music and the atmosphere is really enjoyable. Our waitress was really friendly and took care of us promptly. I was surprised by some of the upscale menu items I saw, considering at first impression this place seems more like a bar. We took a chance anyway! Let me tell you something, the seafood nachos are a must. Seriously, if anything..you at least have to order those bad boys. I personally ordered the seafood alfredo and it was amazing. Huge portions! My fiancé ordered a steak of some sort (can't remember the menu item) and he love his as well. The prices are fair, and honestly not that bad. I'd love to come back here during one of their live music nights. It seems like a nice place to grab some drinks and relax. My four-star rating is simply because I haven't tried the drinks here yet, or been here during typical "bar hours"..I'll be sure to update whenever I do!

We had a great time here, despite a slow start on service. Definitely a "hipster" vibe, but the posters and art are good conversation starters. Some of the food is a little over priced, but all tasted really good. We had the tuna bites and crab dip with baguette as apps, then each had crab cakes (tasty and lumpy, oh my), tuna steaks, done perfectly, a shrimp burrito, garlic green beans (a-freaking-mazing) and asparagus. An eclectic beer menu, but more emphasis on cans than drafts. Good wine selection but they were out of the one I wanted. We would each come back here.

I'm in town on business from NYC and I yelp'd this place. Someone said it was a nice setting for a date (not that I was in one)? It's a dive bar with video screen of a slideshow with local snaps and eclectic candids. Thrasher music and hottie bar tenders. Not what I expected as I only read a couple of reviews. I took off my cardigan and fit in with my white T underneath. I ordered the steak filet and crab cake with a side of mash and asparagus. YUM! I'm pretty stingy on my reviews but this filet was out F'ing outstanding! I've eaten numerous amounts of filet Mignon but this is top notch and cooked to perfection. The char is perfect and the flavor when" cooked" rare is well above par. The crab cake was nice too along with the tastes garlic mashed potatoes and fresh grilled asparagus. Beers on tap are probably all worth a try. I gave it 4 stars because they rock the kitchen in a place I'd usually never anything but a burger from.

Recently went here with my beautiful lady. I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed dining here. The restaurant/bar has a very nice chill vibe. The decor is alternative tributing to classic indie movies ,with canvas art mounted on the wall (which I want to steal). Our server was very polite and catered to our needs. Onto the food..........as an appetiser we had a portion of the wings between us , we decided to order the hottest ones on the menu (hell) and place a wager on who would last longest thinking that they would destroy us. However this wasn't the case although the wings were cooled really nicely the sauce isn't hot at all and it tasted like they had just put Texas Pete on them (still delicious). Onto the entrées, we both had wraps , the blackened tuna and the a1 steak wrap both of which were really nice and full of flavour. Being that my only gripe was the lack of heat with the chicken it's quite apparent that this place is still great and we would definitely come back here again :)

Went around August 2014. It was a cool environment, and loud, as others have mentioned. We had a large group and we called ahead ti reserve some seating. We arrived and were immediately sat and the server was able to juggle our 10-person order. The kids got pizza and it was good. I got a steak that was cooked accurately, but nothing more remarkable than any other steak (seasoning wise). Someone got the crab dip, which was ok. Someone else ordered the crab cakes and they were delicious! The only major fault was the salad one of our group ordered. It arrived with the majority of the lettuce brown. I was honestly surprised they served it. They did replace the salad and it definitely looked fresh. I partially expected this to be some sort of Gordon Ramsey franchise, since it shares the popular show's name, but it doesn't have any affiliation. I would return again with a smaller group.

LOVE everything we had here. My husband had the sirloin + crab cake while I had the seafood nachos (technically an appetizer)--both were fantastic! The nachos were creamy and stock-full seafood. The steak was perfectly done and the crab cake was perfect! Will definitely be back!

A hidden gem. The food, the service, the ambience was great. I have absolutely no complaints. We tried their steak nachos and those were delicious. For our meals, my husband tried their wings. He ordered 20pcs and it was only $13. I had a 6oz sirloin with mashed potatoes and asparagus, it was BOMB and only $9. Prices are great. There's also live music Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 10. I definitely recommend this place.

Place had an industrial feel with the right amount of humor and sarcastic and clever artwork. Unfortunately, our server had zero personality and it seemed to bother her when we asked for drinks. We were a large party, but it was a Thursday night so it was not very crowded. The food was good, but not consistent. We ordered the seafood nachos and steak bites and then ordered them again because they were so good, but they were different the next time. Not really sure why.

I came here for happy hour on a friday while I was trying to kill some time after hearing some decent things. They're big thing on friday's is $2 margarita's, 2.50 domestic bottles, and half-priced appetizers. It turns out there some of the appetizers are excluded, so make sure you ask which ones count! I got the seafood nachos. For $5 it was a pretty good deal, but it was covered in a lot of sour cream and unnecessary sauce. I wonder if the bits of seafood mixed in would be good enough without being completed drenched? The margarita was pretty weak in my opinion. The service here was just alright too. Some waitresses were nicer than others. My big problem was that they 'forgot' to discount my appetizer. I can't help but notice this happens at happy hour and bars more often than at normal restaurants... They should really take ownership and make sure you don't get cheated. The restaurant itself isn't very big so I'm not sure how they accommodate later on at night. I've heard they sometimes have decent live music! Overall: Eh. I think the now 3 star cumulative review of this place is accurate. The food was just okay (despite the audacious name) and the service was alright too. I don't plan on coming back but the happy hour was decent so maybe if you're out of options from 4-7pm then you should give it a shot.

I'm giving this place 5 stars because while I do live somewhere that you can get crab cakes whenever you are craving them, you can't get them as good as they make them here. I had the CC dinner with a side of mashed potatoes (delicious) and broccoli (mmmm, healthy). I would definitely recommend this place. Service was also great!

We were in Norfolk for an Admiral's game, and needed a place to eat. Thanks to all those on Yelp who recommended Hell's Kitchen, because it was probably the best meal of our whole week in Tidewater. The family was a little worried as we walked in. Punk music playing, lots of piercings and tattoos, and a kind of dark room. I enjoyed the atmosphere as it brought back memories of Fugazi in DC...but we've gotten older and more conservative. We stuck out! Ha! Our waitress was awesome. Very attentive. Quick. Super disarming for the family! The food was excellent and a great value. Sherry and I had a 2-steak dinner for $16 special. Now that's a 6-ounce sirloin and 2 sides for $8 each. And it wasn't cheaply done. It was excellent. Kids had a Steak & Cheese and Burger. Both were cooked to perfection and tasted great! They enjoyed the home made fries. I suggest trying the garlic green beans as a side. Yum! If you're in Norfolk and find yourself looking for a place to eat...I can't recommend Hell's Kitchen more highly.

If you're not in the know just don't go. Food is great but if you're not service industry or favored regular it's pretty bland.

This place is really good. It's a smaller bar/restaurant. One side bar one side restaurant. We went there on a Tuesday night. Plenty of seating, staff was great, very friendly and helpful for ordering. We got the seafood nachos which are awesome! Get them. Then we got the seafood stacker which was amazing as well. Gin and tonics were strong and everything was reasonably priced. Awesome place to go before a trip to the Norva or out on the town. Will recommend to everyone.

The food was great and atmosphere matched the expectations led on by the name. The grilled burrito is one I'll never forget! The service left something to be desired. Forgot our appetizers :-( overwise great!

Walked in, nobody decided to help us after sitting for less than 7 minutes. They were dead and the waitress was putting all of her attention towards one tab. Guess since we didn't have a stereotypical hipster look to us we weren't wanted. We walked out. Glad we did.

Went yesterday and we were very dissapointed. The wings were over-cooked/dried out and the blackened tuna wrap was drenched in hot sauce to the point that it killed all the other flavors. We had been going there regularly - but fear the quality has dropped. Also, it smelled pretty bad inside like old beer and ashtrays got in a fight with some trashcan juice.

I've never really come here to eat their food, I mostly come here for the drinks and live entertainment. However, I have tried their blackened tuna bites and they are a great precursor to your eventual night of drinking, at least for me they were. So the atmosphere is kinda dark and the music is loud and sometimes there are people there that don't look like they belong in Hell's Kitchen (preppy, sweaters tied around their necks, fur coats - WTF) but generally, the crowd and people are cool. They have live music on Saturday nights and there is no cover. PLUS!! The mixed drinks are ok, but it really depends on who is making the drink, as with any bartender, this is the case. Overall, it's a fun little place to stop and grab some drinks before moving onto the next bar downtown.

First time there. The crowd is 30 something for the most part. Has a hip new york vibe. Our waitress was great. A little loud with live music for us older folk but the band was good. Dance music first set then heavier as the night went on.

Wings very good, crab cakes very good, pizza meh. Daughter ate off our plate, but they have no milk. Careful with bringing the kiddos that are younger for early dinner or anything.

Me and my coworkers come here often when we stay in downtown. The wings are good here and the she-crab soup! A surprising treat is the veggie platter. We always get that to balance out the wings :) Service is so-so though. Not good, not terrible.

I was in Norfolk on a Saturday and was walking in downtown when I saw Hell's Kitchen. Being the day before Easter I was a bit cautious about the name :) the bartender was very helpful showing me the local beers. Very pleasant staff and the food was great. I had southwestern egg rolls for app. Main course was blackened tuna steak sandwich with garlic green beans. All cooked to perfection. As a restaurant owner myself, I look at the details. Recommended for sure!

I was so excited to find this place as a vegan. I love the feel of the place and the food was beyond expectations... I had the stuffed peppers on the first visit and ficken quesadilla on the return visit. It tasted like my grandma learned about veganism and lovingly cooked my favorite comfort food. Packed full of flavor and the portion sizes are perfect. The cut fries are noteworthy as well.

Excellent food. The place gets very very busy on the weekend so I'd recommend going during the week. I had the buffalo chicken wrap it was good but very spicy buffalo.

THIEVES!! I was en route to deploy and stopped in with friends. The food wasn't to bed but the service was. We were short changed nearly 20 bucks and told the waitress. She came back with dollars and no actual change. Since we were traveling on the governments check we needed exact back. We told her this and she said they didn't give change back. We told her needs it and she left to find some. Instead of her coming back it was the night manager and she gave us our change but not before telling us that we wiped them out of all their change and she hoped we were happy with that. We will never be going back to this place ever again!

PBR $1 on Thursday's. The best un clouded crab cake on the east coast. Super fun staff. Reminds me of a slightly commercial version of Broken Record in SF.

Hell's Kitchen is definitely one of my favorite spots in downtown Norfolk. It's hip and fun but not a total meat market or a trying-too-hard-to-be-"upscale" place like a lot of places downtown, the names of which I shan't mention here. The interior is very rock-n-roll style with dark painted brick walls and cool art. I look forward to using the ladies room because there's this really great Bob Marley poster in there (yeah, I'm weird like that...bathrooms are all important). It reminds me of a place in the Fan in Richmond that used to be called the Hole in the Wall (probably something else now). It's even laid out almost exactly the same. They have good bar food, not too pricey and not just the same ol' burgers and cheese sticks either. I like the tuna bites and the BBQ chicken pizza, and their crab cakes are actually really good--lots of crab, not much filler. They have bands and other entertainment. Last time I was in there, there were local comedians. The late-night bar crowd gets pretty jam packed.

Laid back rocker environment, very chill. Had the burger and PBR special for $8.00 Burger was over 8oz with steak fries; both were very good. Waitress (Ginger?) was attentive and nice. decent beer selection, decent menu options. We will be back next time we're downtown. I recommend.

I absolutely love this place. Great for an after work beer or a Friday night out. It can get a bit loud but still, one of my favorite spots in Norfolk.

Came in from out of town and used Yelp to find this one, UNFORTUNATELY. I do not recommend this place to eat. It may be your atmosphere for drinking, but it was not ours. They were out of wings, mashed potatoes, draft beer, and out of red wine. The food was not that good at all.
