Oh wow. Best Caesar salad, hands down. The chicken is cooked perfectly, the croutons are fresh and homemade, and the dressing has a very fresh lemon hint to it. I'm also a huge sweet tea gal and this place delivers on the fresh tea! Sandwiches are alright - the equivalent to Panera is some respects, but also different. If you get a side - get the homemade chips... they are AMAZING! I have not been here for dinner though and that must change immediately.

I cannot even explain the level of deliciousness. So good! We came in on a Thursday and it was $5 pizza and $3 beer night (Score!). He had pizza, I had the veggie burger. We had to split each others dinner because we couldn't decide which one was better!!!! Also, they are dog friendly!!

If you can get here before noon for lunch, you should be golden! Just don't expect to rush through your meal. I went for lunch with a work friend and we arrived at about 11:30. It didn't look crowded and we were seated immediately. Our waitress got us drinks, but didn't really give us an opportunity to order food, even though we were ready. So we waited until she came back and ordered. My friend just wanted a croissant with some jelly, as a side to her soup, which I didn't find a strange request at all, but the waitress sort of sneered. From then on it was pretty bad. She mentioned refilling my tea a few times but never did, nor did she fill my dining companion's drink at all. The crab and corn chowder we both had was very good, a little spicy, but good. I wanted to order dessert but just knew we'd never actually get it before the ice cream melted or something. It's such a shame because I've been before and had great service, and the atmosphere is nice. This location is tucked into a cozy litlte shopping center in downtown Norfolk, so it doesn't have the generic chain feeling. We just got one not very enthused waitress, is all. Better luck next time, it won't keep me from going back.

A Hampton Roads homegrown, hidden treasure! I absolutely LOVE their Spinach and Bacon pizza (see the photo I uploaded). The crust is phenomenal, and they use a roasted garlic paste with it that gives it its unique taste. Also, they make their crust with a malt, which is somewhat unique to making pizza crust. I'd love to see them open one in the Harborview area of Suffolk to make it a little more convenient, as we live in Smithfield.

I wanted to love this place--it's charming!--but it didn't meet expectations either of the times I've been there. Although the atmosphere is great and the menu has fantastic options, the food isn't on par. My "panini" was just a sandwich on toast and my husband's $10 burger was a hockey puck despite being ordered to "medium". Our second try wasn't any better. Worth it for the baked goods, but don't bother with a meal.

I love Baker's Crust! It's one of my favorite restaurants in the area. They have a great selection of salad and sandwiches that are tasty and fulfilling. They also have some really great desserts here and I should know because I have the world's biggest sweet tooth and I cannot resist a Baker's Crust dessert bar! Right now Baker's Crust is featuring their new Bruschetta Breads and have options such as Apple and Brie, Goat Cheese and Roasted Red Peppers, Hummus and Avocado and more! These are a great new addition to an already awesome menu.

Good variety of food. Service was good, really made you feel at home. Prices were a little high for everyday breakfast but not too out of line.

Returned to this go-to spot passing through Norfolk. It has been over 10 years. Still excellent and a great place for a bistro style meal. Good soups, and plenty of options for what ever your price range is. If you splurge and go for the Ribeye you will not be disappointed. For dessert, the nutella crepe is truly naughty. Wife loved it and please to say we will be back.

Most of the food I have ordered has been tasty. Some dishes have been a bit bland. The worst experience was the roach on the coffee cup. We were offered a fresh cup but knowing there had been one on the last cup we all kinda lost our appetites. Often this is a place where you say, I would like X and they return to say, "sorry, we don't have x" ok- I wan't Y. After 2 minutes, "sorry, we are out of that too"... I am not too thrilled with this place.

This was my first visit to Baker's Crust, and my impression was positive after we arrived, but after my dining experience, I'm rating this place as average. We started off with some of the bruschetta appetizers and some fried calamari, and those were all pretty tasty. I ordered the wood fired salmon and asparagus, and the piece of salmon and portion of asparagus was pretty small for the price, and they were soaked in olive oil, so I wasn't impressed. I also had a fly in my iced tea, so that wasn't good either. I liked the atmosphere, and the desserts/pastries looked tasty, but we didn't try any so no comment. There are definitely many other better restaurants in Norfolk.

Not sure why Baker's Crust only has a three star rating. It is really, really good. I've only been there for breakfast and lunch, and I've always left happy. They have great bread, pastries, coffee, entrees...definitely one of my favorite Norfolk restaurants. The only possible negative is that it can get a little loud inside. It's just one large room with hard surfaces, and noise can be a problem when it's busy. There's nothing wrong with the food though, it is great!

Another great place in the Ghent area tucked away from the hustle and hassle...the food and atmosphere are great here, a perfect place to unwind and enjoy good drinks and food.. The crapes are awesome, the oven pizza is very good and the dessert bar is dangerous.. A little pricey but worth it, they also do brunch.. The staff was very helpful and courteous.. The place was very clean especially the restrooms..

Terrible. T E R R I B L E! I love the Greenbrier BC, but this location blows. What kind of cook can't cook an egg well done - nothing runny???? I'm sorry - my 9 year old niece knows how to fry an egg. I feel sorry for the waitress having to deal with such incompetence in the kitchen. I had to send back eggs with obvious runny (not merely soft - RUNNY) twice. I will NOT return to this location.

I have a problem with this place. I find it difficult to reconcile the quality of service (so-so), the food (generous portions, inconsistent quality), and the price tag (which can be steep). Why should I come here for soup in a bread boule and a sweet tea if it rakes 15 minutes to get out to me, another 10 before the waitress comes to refill my drink, another 5-10 to get back to check on me, another 5 for the check... You see where I'm going, right? Why pay $10 plus a tip, AND all that time investment when I can go down the road to Panera for the same thing, that's consistently good, and cheaper? Not to mention if I'm dying of thirst at Panera, I've only myself to blame. Sorry, I want to love it. I really do. But this place needs to reconsider itself. 1 star for the decor, and another because I'm feeling nice.

My husband and I went there the first time for Sunday breakfast. We were seated around 9:30 a.m. and it wasn't too busy. Service was fast and we were hungry so we appreciated it! We ordered the Jamaican French toast with sides of hash browns and maple sausage. The maple sausage was the best I ever had and we were pleasantly surprised with the hash browns. Based on the photos, we didn't think we'd like them much but they were very nicely seasoned, not too salty, and cooked to crisp perfection on the outside with soft potato in the middle. The French toast was just amazing and didn't seem greasy at all (my common gripe about French toast when dining out). The bananas really put it over the top. The only adjustment I would make would be if they would only soak the bread in the batter a little longer so it would be a little moister in the middle, but that's a personal preference. We experienced two downers on our visit but neither was earth shattering. First, the coffee stinks. I can't remember the last time I had coffee I hated that much. I will not order it again. Yuck. Second, we ordered a Gruyere focaccia bread to go and when we got home, we realized they gave us a different kind of focaccia. Maybe the server didn't hear us right, which is an honest mistake. In any case, the bread was very good and we'll get bread there again, but will be careful to stand there and watch them put it in the bag! Will definitely be back.

Fantastic breakfast. I had the Git r done Benedict. A wonderful take on Eggs Benedict. Can't wait to try the rest of the Benedict family. My only complaint was the bathroom. The sink was not clean and looked as though someone had just shaved. The waste basket was over flowing.

Best breakfast I've ever had! The atmosphere was amazing, the staff was incredible, and the food was out of this world. The pancakes were as big as the full size plate; portions were ample to say the least.

I debated between a two and a three for Baker's Crust. I've been visiting this location since they opened, and have seen a definite drop in quality and creativity over time. I've also had poor customer service experiences at this location that I have NOT forgotten (a discussion with a smart ass manager over a dessert one time, as well as a nasty argument with another manager several years later over poorly prepared takeout). My husband and I had Baker's Crust cater our rehearsal dinner fourteen years ago and certainly loved them then. I've finally recognized that there are some relatively safe bets on the menu as well as some items in which the quality swings wildly. I have family members who are "regulars" and I definitely receive MUCH better service when I go with them. I can't say Baker's Crust is bad but I can't quite say they're great either. So they get an okay. I don't dread it but I certainly don't choose it as my first option in this area. If you're looking for a sure thing: the Malibu sandwich, the Wine Country salad, and the Baker's breakfast special are all pretty good bets. They also have this absolutely amazing dessert that's a white chocolate mousse cake thing. It's been awhile but every time I've had it, it was to die for. I would continue to visit Baker's Crust for this dessert alone.

The New Yorker - I've had decent experiences here before. Brunch is good. The chicken and apple open faced sandwich is delicious. Today I tried something different, and it pretty much ruined my opinion of this place. The whiskey and gingerale was made with maybe a splash of whiskey. I ordered "The New Yorker," thinking for $9.50, I'd be getting a corned beef/pastrami sandwich with a decent amount of meat on it. WRONG! It was like a Subway sandwich: 1-2 pieces of meat on it. Also, the crust was stale. Ironic, eh? So I ate my pathetic excuse for a sandwich and my lip soggy shoestring fries, and I thought to myself, "A chocolate chip cookie would make it all better." THERE WERE NO CHOCOLAT CHIP COOKIES ON A FRIDAY NIGHT!! (Or lemon bars). While I have liked a few of their menu items, for the price you pay, it's not worth it. Not going back. There are far better places to overpay in Ghent.

Went with a group of 10 and were quickly seated outside. Flies were a nuisance and they had no fans/ candles to keep them away. Had there palomodo chicken dish which was good. Also enjoyed their crepe w/ coconut, strawberry , and chocolate. Lastly our waiter was excellent and worked with our group when it came to payment. Looking forward to more of their crepes.

Baker Crust is great, the food and the choices are wonderful. I love the euro cafe choices and feel, the food is fresh and flavorful.

Once one of my favorite places, Baker's Crust has kind of lost the old spark it used to have. Sure, it's a Virginia area favorite, extending from Norfolk to Richmond at least, but the direction it's going in has been less than fabulous. The old adage of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" really has been taken to heart by Baker's Crust. But the fact is, I don't find it to be my first choice because of this. They have the classic menu items, but the choices between each menu item are very blurry. I see the "same" sandwich or entree a few times, and the cookie cutter entrees seem a little boring. Service is okay. Sometimes you'll get a great server, but sometimes you won't. One time, a male server seemed to be interested in making my sexuality a joke. Not very funny to me, especially in Ghent. He didn't get a tip. Don't do take out. Just don't. I've done it so many times and regretted the poor quality of my food, so I don't advise it. It's worth a shot to try this place if you're new to the area, as it is a fresher take away from the chain restaurants downtown, without being too bold in discovering a different flavor (ie; ethnic food). Bread is good. Get the bread, and you could probably give some of their sandwiches a run for their money. Crepes are also really good, they practically account for one star in this review.

I've been to 3 different Baker's Crust but this one is my favorite. The food is similar at all of them but this one has more atmosphere. Two things you have to order here: the cheese tomato soup and the homemade potato chips. There's plenty of desserts and bakery items too.

  • Susan B.

Slow and unresponsive service. Eggs were cool to luke warm. Really odd pricing on the menu: during the week you can get 2 eggs, bacon, home fries, toast - on one section of the menu it costs $8.99 and another it costs $5.99. Highly underhanded, I won't be back.

Grrrr... I really want to be mad at Baker's Crust for losing my reservations then being rude about it, but the food makes up for the people. I'm such a sucker for fresh dishes, what can I say. Anyways, this Baker's Crust is my favorite location. It's tucked into the back of a really cute strip mall (oxymoron?) and the whole place gets amazing light in the afternoon. The decor makes me feel as if I could be having tea and crumpets, but wooweee I'm glad I'm not. Breakfast is the best; I can't get enough of the hash browns. They're not soggy, greasy mounds, but crisp and flavorful patties of perfection. My mom, AKA the Omelet Queen, ends up talking about how delicious her Chesapeake omelet is with jumbo-lump crab and muenster cheese. The prices aren't tooth grindingly expensive, considering the products, but certainly more than the Pancake House. You can't miss this place, but don't make reservations, it's futile. Just be prepared to wait, good thing it's worth it.

Do not come here for brunch, and definitely DO NOT get their Eggs Benedict. Steak and Eggs Benedict come with very little steak, and wife's eggs on her Baltimore Eggs Benedict were so overcooked, the yolks were SOLID... like a hard-boiled egg. Overpriced, underwhelming food. Poor customer service. Our server was a smart-ass and the manager did not bother to apologize for the overcooked eggs. Worst brunch experience we've had to date.

Granted nothing else on the menu here is worth its price, I will always love coming to Baker's because of their crepes.

Baker's Crust is a great basic soup/salad/sandwiches place. It's got a good atmosphere, friendly wait staff, a good selection of dishes, and decent kids' menu. They added a pizza oven and have a selection of pizzas as well now too. It's not inspired, but it's a good, solid place with fresh ingredients in flavorful combinations and I love their salads. We eat here at least once a month and have always been pleased with it. It's the kind of place that would be a dime a dozen in a more urban setting, but is hard to find in a small place like Norfolk. I definitely recommend it.

Crepe-tastic! If you love dessert crepes you should make a stop here. They even have Nutella crepes for you Nutella lovers.

  • Chel R.

I love Baker's Crust. The food is unbeatable. I love the sandwiches (especially the tomato mozzarella grilled cheese), salads, tomato soup...but mostly the crepes! Oh man I love a crepe when it is done right: made fresh and filled with Nutella. But I've had better experiences at the Hilltop location in Virginia Beach (which I'd rate 5 stars). I recently ordered take out at this location and was standing around waiting 15 minutes even though I was the only one there picking up an order and I could see my food just sitting there getting cold. I had phoned it in and showed up when they told me it would be ready. That was a bit annoying. The least they could do was throw in some extra bread or a cookie or something. One thing I do like better at this location is the set up. Did I mention I LOVE crepes? Well you can see them making the crepes, which I just love. That reminds me of the crepe kiosks all over Italy and Greece that I frequented and feel are very much missing in the U.S. Baker's Crust temporarily had some savory crepes on the menu, too. I hope they bring those back. But they are not really a creperie so the fact that they have as many crepes as they do is fantastic.

I just heard about yelp so had to jump on the opportunity. I remember Baker's crust very well. My then-wife used to work there. She was offered a position as a waitress. She quit her other job to work there. They then made her work as a bus-girl, part of her duties was to clean toilets. She quit after 2 weeks, and they refused to pay her for her work. Talking about it to my co-workers I found out that 2 of them worked there as well, but quit. The reason they quit was that they were promised promotions and raises that were always pushed back and never came through. Apparently the establishment has a history of treating their employees and customers like crap. They may be smiley at the counter but once out of ear's reach they also passed their time making fun of and laughing about their clients. I think that it is important to know who you are supporting when you spend your money. If you do not mind supporting false, abusive, deceiving people, feel free to try Baker's Crust.

Great food! And the service was quick and very friendly. The bartender makes the crepes right at the bar, fun to watch while eating the fabulous bruschetta. Drinks were strong and small selection, but it is not a restaurant/bar like most places. I recommend for anyone, great to take kids too.

Nice lunch spot, but super crowded on the weekend. I had the chicken and cheddar sandwich, which I usually love, but it was a bit dry. I can take it or leave it.

Baker's Crust has been a delight to have in our back yard. My girlfriend and I frequent this little place of paradise. We slip over there for a quick bite almost every weekend and the occasional weeknight. The food always satifies. There are no complaints on this side. The hostess is always willing to guide us (to what we call OUR table). I can't say enough about the food and atmosphere. I really do love it there and the food is always great. Keep up the good work guys.

Worst eggs benedict ever. Hollandaise was lumpy and cold. English muffins were untoasted, giving it a doughy texture. Our friends in VB warned us of bad experiences there, but we decided to give Bakers Crust another chance. Regret it.

This is my first trip to Baker's Crust and I was in the mood for takeout. Specifically, I was looking for a good salad to-go. I ordered the summer peach salad, the warm spinach salad with bacon, and the American Kobe beef hamburger with shoestring fries. I split all of the food with a friend. All three items were very good. The salads were fresh with high-quality ingredients, the burger was cooked as-ordered, and everything was altogether tasty.

Always like Baker's Crust. The food is fresh, innovative and delicious. Just ordered the Margherita omelet. the place is packed and we're sitting at the bar.

I have mixed feelings about Baker's Crust. I want to love it more than I do. First off, I think it's a little pricey. The portions are huge, but the Wine Country Salad, which is $8.99 is lettuce, grapes, strawberries, pecans, pears and dressing. For nine bucks? Please. Baker's Crust is inconsistent. Every experience that I've had there has been different. Overall, I prefer the desserts and the breads to the sandwiches and salads. I think I'll stick to just picking up sweets and bread to go!

This review update is about the dine-in service, which was horrible. I was in town this past weekend and five of us came here for breakfast and were were appalled by the horrible service. The cinnamon raisin bread and fruit and nut bread is good, by the way, but did I mention the service was horrible? I'd rather order take-out from here.

Great sandwiches for lunch or dinner. Homemade warm potato chips should not be missed. Crepe/chocolate mousse concoction for dessert is scary good.

This place is a tad on the pricey side, otherwise it would get 5 stars. I eat there every time I am in the Norfolk area. I love their sandwiches and their bread. And you can't forget the lemon bars. I haven't had a bad sandwich yet.

Came in for apps and drinks on a week day, restaurant was very empty! I wanted the fish tacos on the menu, they said they were out of fish....I am not sure if this is OK... if something is on the menu, better plan to have it in stock. My husband ordered a cocktail, they confused it with something else. The calamari appetizer is good. The sliders (short rib) too expensive and you don't get anything special, taste is so bland as well. Service was iffy not sure why, they may have been understaffed. I will probably stick to just having their pizzas from here on out. Brunch time on weekends is also very busy. and quite the opposite during week day afternoons.

Came here with some friends to enjoy a pre-wedding drink and dessert. We were looking to take the bride-to-be somewhere low-key that focused on quality desserts but also served liquor. After some yelping, we settled on Baker's Crust and it fit the bill perfectly. Most of us ordered desserts - I think the crepes stole the show - as well as a drink. Drink selection was surprisingly good for a place that doesn't seem to advertise itself as a bar. Service was prompt and friendly and price was average. If I was in the area again, I'd definitely stop back to try something off their lunch/dinner menu - the wood fired mac and cheese sounded delicious!

Love Baker's Crust for lunch and dinner. I've eaten in and picked up things to-go, and everything has been excellent - kale salad, sandwiches, sweet potato fries. Yum. Service is always great as well, very friendly. Tried their breakfast today and I'd say it's a solid 3 stars. The food was good but not exceptional. The toast was burnt. The omelet was as described, the maple links were a little overcooked or just tough to begin with. The coffee came in a square mug making it a little hard to drink from. Apparently they just bought a whole new set of these. Could come in handy if you're really in need of a pitcher to pour in the caffeine I guess. The coffee itself was just ok. Still, I'll go back for lunch but doubt I will return for breakfast.

Was waiting for Kappo Nara to open, stomach could not wait another half hour. How you justify switching from Ramen to pizza is simple, both are delicious. Had my Burrata pizza as always, and noticed most people enjoying other meals. They look equally fresh and appetizing, but like my marriage, I stick to what I have because it suits me well. Why mess with that? I contemplated the meaning of life at this point, why do I stick to pizza every time I go to a Baker's Crust? Why do I fear new things? I don't, I just know what I love.

Another stop on the resurant exploration trail for my friend Isaac and I. I've always heard good things about Baker's Crust for a long time and I just recently got a chance to expierence it for myself. As soon as we walked in it were were seated and our waitress was both friendly and helpful despite it being busy for dinner time. Our drinks (a lemonade for me, and a coke for my friend, stayed full). To eat I got the Chareslton chicken & avacado sandwich with bacon, fries, and a side of ranch, while my friend got the chicken & broccoli bow tie pasta. And I can vouch for the both of us, the food was delicious. Didn't have room for dessert; however, all the goodies in the bakery section looked delicious. I'm going to have to return to try it out sometime. Overall, I can reccomend Baker's Crust in Norfolk as an upstanding, clean establishment with good food and friendly service.

I came in to Bakers Crust on a Thursday, which was pint and pizza night. $3 pints of draft beer and $6 cheese or pepperoni pizza (which is normally $11 or $12) The pizza was very good, cooked perfectly. They had a variety of beers to choose from...My server, Chantale, was very nice and helpful as well. She recommended the peanut butter pie and it was delicious! I will definitely be joining them this Thursday again!

I had breakfast and lunch here on two different occasions. I find the food to be light and delishes. Lots of balanced flavor. Salads are made of fresh ingredients as they should be. Crisp greens on sandwiches and in the salad. Nice selection of wines by the glass. I tried white chocolate coconut cake and it was VERY good - not too sweet which seems to the issue with most coconut cakes. I like the atmosphere in this locations. Quite a few people lunching alone at the bar area. I think it is a good place for tasty lunch. I am coming back. Additionally, I was seated both times by the same hostess who was quick and friendly.

***MORE LIKE 4.5*** This place rocks. One of the BEST reasons I go here? Dog friendly. You can eat on the patio and they even have a doggie water bowl in the area. First off this place is in a relatively small parking lot that shares parking with multiple a smaller shopping center. At times, expect it to be busy and have difficulty finding parking. When you first enter the staff usually there to greet you quickly. I have yet to have a wait longer than 15 minutes. However, usually we like the patio because we'll bring our dog here. The menu is very simple and rustic in nature. Lots of healthy options and a few "not so healthy" options. The beer selection is somewhat small - but the ones they do have are all local. This is big to me as I love the fresh beer but love the support for the community even better. Last time we visited we kind of went on a spree of things and went all out. I had a Smartmouth beer, and we ordered a side order of sweet potato fries and the goat cheese appetizer. Both were very good but I have to say, the sweet potato fries with the combination of the honey mustard sauce were phenomenal. I could've honestly made a meal of just that. =) For our main entrees we ordered the "Gotta have it" burger and the Tomato and Mozzarella Panini. With hindsight being 20/20.. next time I intend to order the sweet fries as my side item.. just so fantastic. As expected, our food came at a timely manner and was fantastic. Burger was not overcooked and still very juicy. Being that the weather was absolutely amazing, our waitress was fantastic to both us and Daisy, we decided to stay longer and have our desert here (plans were to get ice cream elsewhere). I'm sure glad we did. We had the Noisette Crepe and good gracious... just as I'm typing this, it makes me want one. In the end, our bill was only around $50... which for what we had (2 appetizers, 2 entrees, beer, and desert) was a great deal. Our waitress was so awesome that we tipped her 40% (yeah you read that right)... be kind to your servers folks! I know we'll come back and if you haven't tried this place out, give them a try! Food taste - 4.5 Overall Service - 5 Value of food to cost - 5 Facility - 4 Repeat customer? - yes

The Baker's Crust is a good restaurant overall, though it's not my all-time favorite. The sandwiches, soups, and pizza are good, though most don't truly stand out, but that's not all there is to it. Here is one of the worst choices you could ever make: Going to Baker's Crust and not getting a crepe. They are, without a doubt, some of the best desserts I have ever eaten. I would highly recommend the Diablotin, which is a crepe with chocolate mousse and strawberries inside and topped with whipped cream and vanilla sauce. Or if you're in the mood for something lighter, the Wimbledon, with whipped cream and seasonal berries, is also good, though nothing comes close to the Wimbledon. Bon appetit.

Nope. Not sure what anybody likes about breakfast here. We were seated inside, but were harassed by flies. The sun was so hot through the skylight that it melted the prepackaged butter. I was charged over $11 for three of the worst pancakes and three slices of average bacon. I'm not really interested in returning to find out if dinner is any better. I gave two stars because the host who seated us was cheerful and friendly.

I was pretty sure I had left a review of this place but maybe it was when I ate at one in Chesapeake with a friend... Either way - I'm a fan of Baker's Crust. I always drool over the crepes but haven't tried them - I've sat at the bar several times so I've seen them in all their glory while they're being made. Let me go ahead and say I love this location. It's in a cute little shopping area of Ghent near Colley Ave. with some little paper stores and jewelry stores and cute little antique stores and mom and pop restaurants. So the location is great but so is the food. I love their fresh chips, their salads (especially the wine country and kale salads) are amazing. I've had a pesto, tomato, mozzarella panini on a jalapeño bread which was delicious. Today I met a friend for lunch and had the soup of the day - a spicy jerk chicken soup with rice, sweet potatoes and beans and I loved it. It was really good. Their desserts are fabulous - I especially love the key lime pie. They serve it in this little mason jar and it is a huge portion. My favorite dessert here by far (but I still need to eat some crepes!) The reason for the three stars is I would've given them four but I am not too happy about some of the outrageous prices for food here. The soup of the day I got today was $6.50 for a cup and it came in a really small little side looking bowl thing that wasn't even a cup. That is A LOT of money for a side of soup. Mind you, it was a side, but I paid for a full size bowl not a half soup half salad thing. I bought a full Kale salad (which you can't do the half and half with anyway) and paid for a soup. The size was fine - but the price is a bit much for that little bit of soup - no matter how good. I also got their skillet brownie once and it was nasty. Big let down. It was hard and stuck to the little skillet it is baked in - like when you try to get some of it out you end up scraping pieces of it up with fork and it has cookie chunks stuck to the bottom that won't come off. Not good. It wasn't delicious at all and I ate less than half of it. I'm a fan - I want to try a pizza at some point but I usually stick with salads. One day!

The service was quick and friendly even though they were far busier than I expected. I would say that I wish they weren't tucked away like they are but they'd probably be busier if they weren't. To start I had the Caprese Bruschetta which was wonderful. The Balsamic reduction was the perfect complement to the bread and topping. My friend had the kickin' crab chowder which like its name implies had a good spice. We spilt a pizza and we were glad we did. The pizzas come in one size and they imply it's for one but easily feeds two. I especially enjoy the brick oven that is visible from the dining room. My only complaint is that I didn't save room for dessert.

The food here was amazingly fresh and tasty..Upon entering the restaurant I was already happy..It was crowded but I was seated quickly..Our waitress was polite and prompt, attentive to our every need..She made some lunch suggestions and I went with the Turkey BLT with a side Turkey salad...My lunch date had Chicken Salad sandwich smd and a Caesar Salad..both were yummy..Portioned just right for lunch..And it came out in a timely fashion...A few people beside us ordered pizzas and they looked tasty also..That will be my next choice on my next visit..

I have been to Baker's Crust on numerous occasions and have had an enjoyable time but my last visit was quite possibly the worst service I have ever received. We had to wait more than fifteen minutes for our drinks and then had to ask someone to get our server after sitting for another fifteen minutes or so in order to place an order. No refills of water or any other visit to the table until we asked for checks. The restaurant was not very busy on a Friday afternoon so we could not see any reason for the level of service that we received.

Happy hour deals and food itself are awesome but the waitress working yesterday dinner time sucks.. She came to my table just three times.. 1. To take order 2. To give me food 3. To give me my check.. She was taking care of three tables including mine but other two tables already finished their food and got their check!!! but she didn't care of my need of water, plates or anything! Last time I was here the other young waitress got me wrong check... Seriously they need to be trained decently.. I think I am gonna order only to-go from now on..

This is for a 1 time visit, during a 2 day trip down in the Norfolk area. This bakery was within walking distance to where my girl friends and I had lunch. We went purely for dessert and coffee after lunch, so I cannot speak for the food menu. The service was great~! It wasn't that crowded since we went after the lunch rush. We ordered an iced latte, the ice cream sundae, and a blueberry cake (pictures)...Everything was yummy! The interior design was cute and spacious, and we stayed awhile just talking (the waiter was really nice and was on top of things). Tip: I hope to come again (if ever in Norfolk) to try other things on their menu. PS: Their dessert menu is a separate menu, so we asked for it when we got seated. There's ample parking, and lot of cute restaurants nearby as well.

Went here for brunch on a monday. I opted for the chesapeake eggs benedict. It definitely wasnt the best eggs benedict I've had. One of my eggs had a white that was still partially raw. The english muffin was not warmed or toasted, it tasted as if they just cut one in half that they just grabbed out of the pack. The hollandaise had a good taste but was cold, as well as the crab. the whole time im thinking, "how are eggs supposed to stay warm when a cold toppings and sauce are placed on top?" Things that make you go HMMMMM. BUT, the home fries it came with were hot and crispy. They probably let the eggs sit while the home fries were cooking .... all in all, that dish was not well executed. Bu redemption came when I ordered the caprese bruschetta. The bread it came on was crispy on the edges while the middle was chewy, and The balsamic glaze was perfect to sop up with it. It's kind of hard to go wrong with fresh mozzarella to me and they didnt disappoint with this appetizer. The bruschetta and the customer service gained them a star on this visit. We sat at the bar and the bartender was very attentive and polite and made a good twist on my usual drink. I will return to try other things on the menu.

I have eaten at one in Richmond on Cary street and it was soso and this place on 21st street is the same just soso. I had an omelet and it was ok and the diced potatoes were just ok nothing really popped. Will I be back I doubt it there are so many other places to try. On a positive note the service was good.

Came in here for breakfast since No Frill had not opened yet. Service here was a little slow and our server forgot a few things we had ordered. The food itself is very diner-esque and nothing really stood out as above average. I had the Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Croissant on an English Muffin since they were out of croissants. They were also out of cranberry juice. The Baltimore Benedict (eggs Benedict with crabcake rather than Canadian bacon) was underwhelming considering the ingredients.

"Oh, they don't have orange marmalade". This is my 81 year old father's lament every single time we have eaten at Baker's Crust over the last, oh, 7 years or so. My parents are regulars here, and whenever I'm visiting Norfolk we make at least one visit for breakfast. The food, atmosphere, and especially the service are top notch. My parents have their special servers, who take the time to ask whether my mother is in the mood for "fruit or hash browns today?" We went to breakfast here yesterday, arriving at about 10:30, later than our normal time, or "Before the Protestants get out of church" as my dad would say. It was still easy to get a table for 3 because the weather was nice enough for people to sit outside. I always order the same thing: Baker's Breakfast - 2 eggs over medium, bacon, rye toast and fruit. My father does, too, but his eggs are over hard with wheat toast. The eggs always arrive cooked perfectly, the fruit is usually just so-so, the bacon is thin and crispy, almost like prosciutto, and the toast is perfectly crisp like I like it. My mom changes it up between yogurt and granola or one of the omelets. Yesterday it was The Maryland, with lump crab meat, which my mother said she "didn't get much of". I am not sure why we've never come here for anything other than breakfast because they have wood-fired pizza, tons of sandwiches and other entrees, and I can only guess that they are top-notch, based on the breakfast quality. The restaurant has an in-house bakery and a pastry case showcasing head-sized danish, croissant, cookies and "cheesecake on a stick". The restaurant itself is light and bright, with pleasant wicker-like seating with arms on the 4 top tables, and lots of rooms for large groups with long booths lining one side of the space. The prices are reasonable enough for the quality of food. Breakfast with coffee will run about $10 per person. I highly recommend this place. Now, if they would just get some marmalade.....

Had dinner here with my husband and a friend and it was our first time having the pizza. It was a wonderful culinary experience though the pizza was a little greasy (no doubt from the delicious cheese and pepperoni slices), so towards the middle it was a bit soggy, but we just blotted it with napkins and dug in. Every time I've eaten here the food has been great.

Unfortunately, I had the most horrific dining experience at Ghent's Baker's Crust today. I learned the ovens apparently caught fire yesterday, unbeknownst to me. The restaurant made the mistake of choosing to open today, despite an increasingly acrid "burning"smell and then a welder working to repair with arcing 12 foot sprays of sparks flying toward the dining area. This loud grinding / welding sound and spark spray went on a full 15 minutes until we summoned the manager, thinking the noise would surely stop or someone would come over to explain. The sparks kept flying, as we explained that had we known all this, and especially on one of my husband's rare days off work, we never would have placed an order. The manager nicely gave us 2 free entrees for future, which we appreciated, but the damage had been done. I was exposed to fire/smoke fumes and also a very loud, ear piercing, high decibel welding situation which has caused a headache all day. The ongoing spray of sparks toward the dining room was incredible and showed total lack of concern and safety for the patrons. It was like attempting to eat breakfast in a noisy garage. We soon paid the bill and left, food half-finished for our safety and peace of mind. I left a msg for management today, which has not yet been returned. I am a Norfolk native, long time patron and absolutely shocked the restaurant chose to open today, considering the fire smell and extent of obvious repairs needed. Good sense would dictate to remain closed until air quality is restored and repairs completed for the staff and patrons' wellbeing. Sadly, I wish I could say our food was a redeeming factor but the Baker's Breakfast (eggs, toast, bacon, etc.) arrived cold and our eggs were overcooked. Not a good day at Baker's.

Things have changed since my last review, which was in 2013. Now...the staff is constantly changing, quality is down, "make it yourself breakfast" is a disaster with confusion and the bill is always wrong, takes forever to make our easy breakfast in an empty of customers restaurant. Today, the new chef didn't know how to make me an omlet with all white egg. Not a happy place for us. Plenty of parking, beautiful restaurant.

Extremely disappointed. The food is bunt or miss (never a hit) - and the only reason I opted here today was because there was no wait. One of the worst breakfast experiences in years. I ended up sending the food back and leaving because the eggs were not cooked and covered oil, the plate was a mess, and the fruit (extra charge) was not ripe. I have enjoyed better food at IHOP down the street. For an artisan restaurant, they have leaps and bounds to improve before they actually represent this category - or event a mediocre food establishment. And when a customer has an awful experience - don't still charge $3.83 for bland, burnt coffee. I'll opt for a 45-minute wait at Citrus next time.

Always a favorite but we hadn't been in a while, so thought we'd give it a try for lunch on a Saturday. The menu has changed and our usual favorites are no longer there, so we went with pizza and a burger (safe). Glad we did! Our wonderful server Toya asked if I want the burger "pink or brown" - the pink burger came out perfect. Super flavorful and juicy. The brioche buns are soft and yummy. I was a huge fan of the shoestring fries they used to serve and was a little disappointed they are no longer on the menu, but the natural cut fries they now serve were really good. The portion was "just right" lighted salted and not over or under fried. The pizza was a nice surprise. My hubby is a pizza snob and he loved it! Thin crust, not to crispy. On to dessert....oh the desserts! Crepes are always amazing, but we had to try the chocolate in a jar. White chocolate moose, chocolate moose, brownies, whipped cream - WOW!

After coming to bakers crust maybe once every 2 weeks...for the first time EVER I had the worst waitress ever. She was unpleasant! Never smiled once. Before I could even sit down she asked what I wanted to drink without me even having a chance to look at the menu. So I just said a water. She bought the water to me quickly. And then didn't come back to my table for 10mins. Actually I had to eye her down/call her over. At this point there is only me and another table in the restaurant. I ordered the calamari and a bowl of the kickin corn crab chowder. I wanted a glass of wine. But she never came back to my table to see really check on me until I was finished with my meal and asking her for my check. Long story short, I LOVEEEE bakers crust! This has been one of my favorite restaurants in va since moving here. But please get this lady some customer service classes! I'll chalk it up to her having a bad day...but honestly, I'm not putting a gun to ur head making u come to work. So put a smile on! I give bakers crust a 5 star because I've never had this experience. But I give her a 1star.

Hands down one of my favorite restaurants in Ghent. Everything is delicious! I usually get their Jalapeño Panini burger (not on their menu anymore but they will still make it) and fries. Oh, their fries! Their fries dipped in their house sauce is amazing. Get 'em! Also, you CAN'T pass up a Diablotin for dessert. It's a killer crepe. It's tough to eat a whole one yourself, so just get one and split it with your date!

I've only visited Baker's Crust for breakfast and bread. The first few things you will notice is that the interior is unusual and charming! The waitstaff seem inexperienced and inattentive, and the prices are a bit high for the portion sizes and what the meal is. The restaurant also doubles as a bakery, don't stand around the pastry and donut counter too long or you may empty your wallet. Everything looks delectable! Their loaves of bread are priced perfectly, $3.99 last I was in, and their recipe is just right. The Rye is wonderful! My favorite breakfast item would be the waffle, though I recommend getting a small side to go with it. It was crunchy on the outside and oh-so tender on the inside. It comes with fresh strawberries on top and a nice, homemade whipped cream! The coffee was average. For a different and savory breakfast experience, the blue crab omelet was tasty although pricey (around $11 maybe). It was not too salty, the crab meat tasted fresh and was not too scarce, and the eggs were fluffy.

I dined here Wednesday with a friend around 5:30, was seated immediately and the server was nice. We ordered the bacon mac and cheese as an app and that was very tasty, not much bacon but that's OK. I ordered the smoked turkey club with the chips and my friend had the rueben. The sandwich was good although the bread wasn't toasted and instead of arugala they put romaine lettuce on it. The house made chips were half crispy half stale and soggy. All together it was an OK dinner until I decided to visit the bathroom before we left, they were unisex, which I immediately thought was disgusting, and without giving too much detail they were. So try it out, do not get the chips and find somewhere else to use the restroom.

Very disappointed in today's visit. I haven't been in a while but what a difference in the customer service now. Looks like they they've had a total staff change. Didn't recognize any of the past long-time staff and the new staff clearly were not focused on customer service. Our waiter barely checked on us even though our coffee cups were empty and we needed more tea and water. We tried for a while to make contact with our waiter who appeared to make eye contact but never reacted to our attempts to get him to come to us. We stopped another waiter and asked for toast but that waiter never delivered the message to our waiter or to the kitchen. We finally got the hostess to track down the waiter and he finally showed up but acted like we were bothering him. We asked about the toast which he didn't know anything about but was more concerned that we understood that it wasn't his fault because we didn't order it from him... just bring us the toast. In the end, he reduced the amount of our check because the toast never came and he made it a point to let us know he reduced it more than the amount of the toast, but it really felt like this effort was more of an effort on his part to make sure it didn't affect his tip. Thankfully the food was good but the service will definitely keep me from going back.

Baker's crust is a mediocre bakery/restaurant that doesn't show you prices and surprises you at the register. Their system for the food vs. bakery is quite confusing also, and doesn't really anticipate the customers eating their dessert there. My boyfriend and I got cake there that while quite good, was definitely not worth $7.50 a slice. Especially when we weren't even offered a table to eat it at...and it definitely was not made in house.

Visited Baker's Crust after a very long silence. I didn't think I missed much, but I guess I actually did. Baker's Crust has a new menu; at least it's new to me. They also have a woodfire pizza oven near the entrance; when did they put that in? Ever thought about have a woodfire baked chocolate chip cookie with a scoop of Edy's Ice Cream? Well, it's on the menu! The star of the day was not that cookie, though, because I had to pass on that. The star of the day was the Charleston Chicken and Avocado; it's a Buttermilk fried chicken breast drizzled with honey buerre blanc with avocado, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and honey mustard dressing on a brioche roll. It was one of the best sandwiches I've had in a while. I'll definitely go back for that. Everything else, I felt, was as promised. I guess I should put Baker's Crust back into my food rotation.

First time visiting and couldn't be happier. Had breakfast here with my colleagues yesterday. I had the Mediterranean omelette, which was amazing. I also enjoyed the home fries/hash browns. The interior was very nice and sleek. Out server was friendly and attentive. The only reason I marked them down was because my colleagues dollar pancakes and 1 egg took forever to come out. The pancakes were cold and the hardboiled egg was undercooked. I was shocked that a chef that could produce such a good omelette can't get the hand of boiling an egg...

This was my first time at the Baker's Crust. I had the Greek omelet, and it tasted average. The portions are small and overpriced. Although I enjoyed the place and the company, I don't think I'd go out of my way to visit this bakery again.

I've been going to the bakers crust for years. For the most part, my experiences their have been good. Most recently I stopped in to get some breakfast with my wife. I ordered the Baltimore Benedict. I'm a native Baltimorean, so my standards of crab, shrimp and other seafood dishes are high. The Baltimore Benedict was prepared with an English muffin topped with crab meat, a poached egg, hollandaise sauce and came with a side of potatoes. There was nothing overwhelmingly spectacular about this dish. It was warm bordering on cold and the flavor was so so. As I said before, I've been coming here for years, but the meal I had that day was mediocre. I could have sent it back, but I would have received a hot version of the bland meal. Their pastries, cakes and pies are awesome. I usually sit at the back bar and order crepes. The coffee, sandwiches, lunch and dinner items are good and all if the employees are pleasant. I will return again soon to enjoy some of the best food in Norfolk, but will steer clear of the Baltimore Benedict. My 3 star rating is strictly based on the meal I had that day.

I hate to give a bad review to the only restaurant I've had a good gluten-free pizza at, but here goes... They have a gluten-free menu, and the pizza is good, so props to Baker's Crust for that. On the down side: they do not have any gluten-free desserts; the waitress up-charged me twice on my hamburger with no warning and only took off one of the charges after I complained twice; the "huge" burger I was promised was small; waitress didn't bring me parmesan cheese/red chili shakers at first because she thought they may contain gluten...Train your staff better. Increase your portion sizes. Complete your menu. Don't charge so much. And then you could actually be a gluten-free chain I would visit more than twice.

Love this place. It's been so long since I've visited a BC...at least five years. I love walking during lunch because the sun is shining bright inside and the place is packed. They've been doing great things ever since I first dined some 13 or 14 years ago. I'm a fan of their soups in a bread bowl. You can't go wrong with their shoestring fries. The three others I was with today ordered salads while I opted for their turkey burger with bacon and a fried egg. Oh it was so delicious!!! By the looks of their salads (I've never tried) they look stellar, too. I probably shouldn't wait another five years before I return. Oh and when the weather is nice like it was today you can enjoy a beautiful lunch on their patio. I cannot wait to go back!

Have been a fan of Baker's Crust for years, but my meal Monday night was pretty "meh." I ordered a Kale salad and had them add grilled shrimp which they told me would be "wood fired." The salad had a good dressing but contained pre-shredded carrots and kale that seemed like it had been dumped out of a bag. I was most disappointed in the shrimp. They had no flavor and I paid an extra $6 for 4 small shrimp. There was nothing "wood fired" about them. We also asked for some bread with our meal. It was cold, not room temperature, but cold.

I tried Baker's Crust for the first time today and though the food was lovely (I had the Charleston Chicken & Avocado and double chocolate chip cookie), it wasn't quite good enough to justify the mind bogglingly high prices especially given the small portions. Definitely will try again...but not any time soon.

I've eaten brunch here more than a handful of times, and I keep meaning to come back for lunch and dinner...! The breakfast/brunch menu boasts a nice variety of foods, though I'm partial to the omelettes-- particularly the Mediterranean. The ingredients taste fresh, and the sides of toast and hash browns always hit the spot. Very comfortable, relaxed interior and they serve coffee in interesting mugs that can be purchased at the front desk. Definitely one of my favorite brunch places in Norfolk!

The first time I went to Baker's Crust wasn't the best experience so I opted to not write a review. The only good thing was they let us bring our dog to the outdoor patio area. I decided it was time to have another go at it. I got the Country eggs benedict and Cream cheese danish and a cup of coffee. OK. I didn't plan on eating AAAllll of it .. but somehow I managed. Minus the 5 pieces of little crispy potato squares. The eggs benedict comprised of perfectly poached eggs and a tasty hollandaise sauce (though maybe a little more lemon would be nice) and an english muffin. I did not care too much for the country ham though. It's probably just me. The other components were amazing though. The cheese danish was good, too. It was a bit tough which leads me to believe it wasn't fresh but still .. not bad. The coffee was standard restaurant fare. All in all, I really enjoyed the food and our server was very friendly. Though the service was a little slower (and maybe we jokingly said they forgot about us) than we had hoped, I was hanging out with a friend and the hunger didn't hurt so much since we had lots to talk about. I would definitely go back though. The eggs man. PERFECTLY POACHED.

For the longest time, I would always forget that there was a Baker's Crust tucked away that tiny shopping plaza in Ghent. Once the light bulb went off - duh - we've been going there a few times a month. The food is always great - I love ordering a pizza and a side salad. I even had my whole family in town for a reunion and we went there for our last dinner together. They served 14 people on a Saturday evening flawlessly. Every member of my family was thrilled with this place - some even went back the next morning for breakfast! I love this place - great food, good prices, relaxing atmosphere, great service. You can't ask for much more.

After a dozen visits I have yet to be disappointed. Baker's Crust is a great little eatery over in Ghent that I tried out on a whim when I saw they had a patio and wanted to grab some lunch with my dog. (They are dog friendly, just bring your own bowl). I found the service to be good, the food ranging from great to pretty good, and the price to be a touch high. But we often use the military discount, or coupons we find so this hasn't been a problem. The portions are great, they are super friendly, and the menu is extensive so every time I come I check out something new. I have yet to be let down. I love the pizzas, the fresh bread, and warm bowl of soup on a windy day.

This is a local chain that my husband and I both really like. There's something here for everybody; plus, their desserts are delicious! I usually go for the wood-fired salmon or one of the brick oven pizzas, and my husband loves the sandwiches. Try it for brunch; they have homemade bread.

Wow - what a great place for food, cheap (excellent) pizza and beer....and dessert. We had Calamari for an appetizer (excellent) and good portion that we split 4 ways. Everyone else had a ceasar salad (just ok). We all had a different pizza and shared...ALL great! I also tried 2 x beers (Grn Can and Red Nunn), also very good. I will definitely be back!

Got the Baltimore Benedict for breakfast and had a coffee. The food was very good and the service was good as well. However, there were a lot of flies/gnats flying around so I spent most of my time trying to swat them instead of enjoying the food.

Love the atmosphere. It's laid back, but classy. Love the wood-burning ovens that are one of the first things you see as you walk in. Our waiter was very nice and helpful with the menu selections. It was my and my friends' first time here and everything just looked so good we had to ask for some suggestions. We ended up getting a crepe with strawberries and whipped cream, crab omelet with hollandais sauce, and the Medterranian omelet. One of my friends also go the crepe with hazlenut chocolate. Have to go back now to try everything else on the menu.

Meh. That about sums up my first and probably last experience here. Got there early-ish on a Saturday morning. Immediately seated. The decor was nice (probably gonna steal some of their style if/when I build a garage) and the atmosphere was inviting. I was not, however, won over by the service received. I'm a sticker for service, so I give extra slack when I'm trying a new place. Our server passed aid a few times before taking our order, and it took almost ten minutes to get our mimosas and coffee - not espresso or a fancy coffee, just drip. I went with the East Coast omelette which was pretty good, but smaller than I would have expected. The presentation seemed haphazard, and it looked like American cheese slices had just been tossed on top and left under the warming lamps a bit too long. The potatoes were ok until I bit into one that was a complete piece of blackened potato eye; quality control? And on the way out not a single "thanks for coming in" from any of the half-dozen workers we passed, including the "manager" (she looked the part) who I made eye contact with and smiled at. Come on, guys...it's a customer service business you're in! These are what I feel are basic skills. The upside is that you get a discount on their breads for dining there; picked up some excellent raisin cinnamon bread for killer caramel used French toast this morning. Not sure I'll go back.

I was craving the seafood linguine but when I came for dinner the other day i found the menu had changed. So I ordered the next best thing which was the seafood bow tie pasta. The taste was amazing but I wish there were more veggies in there. I felt like I was just eating pasta. I definitely will be coming back when I crave the pasta again. The burger my husband got was very juicy and well cooked. He was happy too.

Me and my boyfriend heard about the pizza and pints on Thursday nights so we decided to try it out. The special starts at 4 and we got there around 4:30 and it wasn't busy at all so that was nice. They have 4 different options for the $5 pizzas, I got pepperoni and my boyfriend got the Bianca. They had 2 different beer options for the $3 pints. My boyfriend got their smart mouth option which he liked and I opted for the peach sangria even though it wasn't part of the special or happy hour. It was worth the $7 though, light and refreshing. Our pizzas came pretty quick. They were good but a little on the greasy side. The crust was light and tasty. Our server was great, friendly and attentive. They also have a case of pastries and pies. I got a cheesecake on a stick to go. It was good but not worth the $7 it cost. Overall we were satisfied with our experience and will definitely be back!

Great brunch - try the chicken and waffles. Pizza is surprisingly delicious as well. Smartmouth beer on tap too! Great place!

It's been a long time since I've dined here, and even though it's been in Ghent for years I always forget about it. I enjoyed many brunches here after Sunday Mass with my parents while growing up. It was always busy but they always handled their food and service with such aplomb. Admittedly, I used to know a few members of the staff, so it seemed like they always rolled out the red carpet for me and anyone who I dined with. But the food alone is excellent and they make a mean crepe. I don't know if it's still on the menu but their paella is mouth-watering. I need to remember to dine there again sometime.

I'm actually a regular here and enjoy it quite a lot. But I just tried to go there with my daughter alone and they did not seat the two of us even though they had a bunch of empty tables. I guess we weren't going to spend enough. Very discouraging.

Terrible service, overpriced small portioned meals that are of terrible quality. I had a great experience at bakers crust once, gave it 3 more chances and had a terrible experience all three times. Wish i could give it a high rating and better review, but sad to say this bakers crust just doesnt deserve it.

Great fluffy Waffle and fresh coffee. Really nice atmosphere inside. Lots of natural light. I would go here again just for the atmosphere. Service was average.

Until now, I had only eaten breakfast at Baker's Crust, so I decided it was about time to go and try their dinner, which is advertised on small cards and centerpieces on tables throughout the restaurant. Having always gone in the mornings, the restaurant has typically been very bright and inviting, but during this visit it seemed to be very dim and dark. For this reason, I opted to sit at the bar, because it was the brightest place in the entire restaurant. Aside from the absence of any form of light, the restaurant has a really unique feel to it. As soon as you walk in, a large wood fire oven greets you, along with a few people baking and kneading bread. Once you begin to look around, you almost feel as though you have been transported to a mom and pop bistro in the countryside of Italy. The tattered concrete slab floors and rustic plastered walls, revealing the occasional patch of bricks here and there, combined with the previously mentioned wood fire oven all come together to create this pastoral and cozy feeling to your entire visit. For my appetizer, I ordered the Wood fired Mac N' Cheese, which was marked as being new to their menu. This heavenly and delectable dish was a complex combination of Fontina and Gruyere cheeses mixed with bacon and perfectly cooked al' dente penne pasta, all placed inside of a petit, yet blazing hot, cast iron vessel. Immediately after having this dish placed in front of me, I could smell the intense cheese aromas making their way into my nose. My first bite was an explosion of flavor. The pungent taste of the Fontina and Gruyere cheeses combined with the salty and smoky bacon creates this unique sapor that sent my palate in to overdrive. For my entrée, the waitress recommended to me the Wood Fired Salmon with a side of Broccolini. After having such an impressive appetizer, I expected this dish to be top notch! Arriving in front of me sat this generous portion of salmon and an equally generous portion of broccolini paired with what appeared to be a baked lemon half. I gently squeezed the lemon on top of both the salmon and broccolini and the soft sweet pulp, which I would have been more than happy to have all by itself, came pouring out. As I took my first bite of the salmon, I could tell there was something wrong. I had ordered my salmon medium rare, which it definitely was not. This poor defenseless piece of salmon had been cooked well beyond done. Another thing that seemed weird to me is that this piece of fish had no sear or crust to it. Typically when you bake or pan-sear a piece of fish, such as salmon, it begins to form this crispy, savory outer crust that is full of flavor. My salmon just seemed to have more of this soft, bleak, outer layer that often forms when you reheat meats such as fish and poultry. While the seasoning on the broccolini was quite delicious, it too had an odd taste. It tasted as if it had been previously frozen. Wanting to give it a second chance, I tried another piece, after which it was quite apparent that this broccolini was facing a bad case of freezer burn. While I understand freezing certain items, fresh veggies, especially those such as broccolini that are available in the U.S. year round, should just not be frozen. Mediocre entrée aside, I decided to end my meal on a high note. What better to do so than with one of Baker's Crust's famous house made stuffed crepes? I opted for the Jamaican Crepe, which is a standard crepe, filled with bananas flambéed in rum and brown sugar, topped with toasted coconut and chocolate sauce, paired with a heaping scoop of vanilla bean ice cream and sweet, light and fluffy, whipped cream. When this plate first arrived, on the cold granite bar top, it brought with it this feeling of elegance and decadence. Individually, the ice cream, crepe, and whipped cream are delicious, but when paired with one another, these three ingredients come together to create this harmonious balance of buttery, sweet and vanilla-y flavors. The juices from the flambéed bananas are a desert all on their own and had me tempted to use the straw from my drink in order to savor every last drop. Overall, my visit to Baker's Crust was quite satisfying. While the entrée was not worth the $18 dollars I paid for it, the appetizer and dessert certainly made up for it. Every chef has a bad night here and there, and having enjoyed many meals here before, I would like to give him the benefit of the doubt and say that he was just having one of those nights. If you're in Norfolk, I strongly suggest you head over to Baker's Crust, yet another one of Ghent's hidden jewels. Just not good... Our waiter was impatient with our table and clearly annoyed that he was seated towards the end of lunch. He had zero personality and was walking around the restaurant like it was lazy Sunday afternoon around the house. My husband and best friend ordered sandwiches with salads on the side. I got the 1/2 sandwich, 1/2 salad. They ended up getting way more salad than me even though theirs was just a side. The proportions were way off. When we were ready to order dessert, we suddenly had a different waiter because ours apparently had an emergency at home (even though I saw him continuing to do side work). Our new waiter was friendly and I wished he was ours from the beginning. The only two people who provided acceptable customer service were Shay (spelling?) and Eric. We will NOT be returning here again. Too many other awesome restaurants around Ghent. If you go, do yourself a favor and ask for Eric's section. I can at least vouch for the fact that is is friendly and a good waiter.

Wednesday half off wine. Had the club and a salad, nothing to really get excited about. The deserts did look amazing.

1:30pm on a Sunday is not a great time to arrive. Encountered a bit of a "I don't care" attitude plus a wait for a table. At least direct us to a waiting area and ask it we want to look at a menu, something, anything other than "it's a 15 minute wait" and turn your back on us. Once seated we found a good server with Maurice. He also was the only employee who seemed pleasant. Three of us at the table. Wife ordered a large spinach salad that looked pretty and according to wife tasted fine. Not great but fine. She did not care for the Balsamic but Maurice quickly brought out some Blue Cheese. Daughter got a half sandwich and soup plus sweet potato fries. All seemed fine and I although I do not care for sweet potato fries the one I tasted was fairly good. I did not taste anything else off my daughter's plate so can't comment on the quality. I do know her soup was more warm instead of hot. I got a half Mediterranean Chicken sandwich and small Caesar Salad. I asked for the bread to be switched to Ciabatta and found out they do not have it. It's strange that a place that specializes in bread does not have Ciabatta but they must have a reason. The Chicken was pretty tasteless but the rest was fine. The Caesar salad was weak with a plate full of mostly core pieces of Romaine. A Caesar Salad is not all that hard if you use good Romaine it is good. Try to get by with inferior and it's not enjoyable. The bottom line is that the owners really do not know the difference between good and exceptional. I do.... Three stars for good and five for exceptional.

Nice presentation and decor. I was in a large group and they were very accommodating. We had a great waitress. The food was really good (I had pancakes), which was markedly different (and better) than your normal IHOP-type restaurants. A terrific place for breakfast.

Oh I wanted so badly to like this. I ordered the Eggs Benedict with lump crab... usually a huge fan of the Benedict! They served up cold eggs on a cold, un-toasted, dry, straight-out-of-the-bag English muffin. BLECH! My hubbie's west-coast omelet was delicious though (as were his sides). Plus, my side-order of fruit was a bunch of rock-hard, unripe melon. For a $2 "upgrade fee" to fruit, it should've been better. And for the $13 Eggs Ben, it should have been warm. The atmosphere was fun though, so we might give it another try.

Been going here for years. Good food, good service, great desserts! Order some of their dessert crepes and you'll be sure to make Baker's Crust a go-to place for gatherings. The last time I was in, I noticed they even updated their menu. A couple items are a tad pricier than what I'd like to pay, but there are plenty of other more wallet-friendly options to choose from.

We tried this place the other night and were pleasantly surprised. I usually really dislike being sat at small tables right in the middle of the floor, however this location was set up just so, so that even though we were right out in the open, it was very comfortable and didn't feel awkward. I liked the ambiance of the place too. The vaulted ceiling had big skylights, so I can only imagine how nice the lighting is during the day. Our server was great (Ryan?) and the food was even better. Their house-made chips were delicious. When we received our check, I was surprised at the total given the fact that we had drinks, an appetizer, and desert. Great prices! Overall, I will definitely be coming here again. My only complaint is that our clothes and coats smelled pretty heavily of "restaurant" when we got home.

My first visit to Baker's Crust....definitely will not be my last. The overall experience was fantastic. The food is top-notch, the ambiance is nice (quiet - good for conversations, but not eerily quiet), and the service is spectacular. The prices, considering the quality of food, are very reasonable. My dinner date and I split an appetizer, salad, and entree, and the entire bill was under $50. Appetizer - 5+ STARS. Although vegan 99.9% of the time, I will occasionally break for cheese in times of birthdays. Birthday guy wanted bruschetta so we opted for two: (1) Brie with apple, caramel, and walnuts. Holy YUMMINESS. The combination of the slightly salty brie with the sweet caramel and the savory, crunchy walnut made this one of the best appetizers I've ever had. (2) Goat cheese with fresh basil, gently roasted red peppers, and olives. The combination of the salty goat cheese, slightly sweet peppers, and spice of the fresh basil made this one a winner. Delicious. Husband and I opted to split a pizza and split a salad. When discussing this, the waiter overheard us and offered to split the salad for us and brought it to us on two separate plates. (Very much appreciated.) Also, even split, the salads were huge. SALAD - 4 STARS. Ordered the avocado, tomato, and mozzarella over fresh greens and topped with balsamic. All of the ingredients were fresh, delicious, and paired really well with the balsamic with the exception of the avocado. Combined the avocado and balsamic had an odd flavor - to me they don't go well. Which is sad, because I love them both independently. I think the salad would have been a 5 without the avocado. PIZZA - 4 STARS. Ordered the Puttenesca. There were a lot of really great things about the pizza and a couple of not-as-great. The great: (1) The wood fired crust was perfection. Perfectly cooked, had a nice crisp to it and excellent flavor. (2) The pre-marinated tomatoes were juicy, spicy, and flavorful. Honestly, I'd have eaten a bowl of those given the options. Excellent. The not-so-great: (1) The eggplant wasn't done to my liking - kind of rubbery and chewy. (2) They were overly generous with the capers and olives.....the amount of those two very salty ingredients made the overall pizza experience a little too salty. I'd order that pizza again, but I'd hold the eggplant and tell them to go VERY easy on the capers. Aside from some very tiny, forgivable missteps, this place is a winner. I think with a few minor adjustments to my order, my next visit to Baker's Crust will be a 5 star all the way.

Wow, this place just rose to the top of my list of favorite restaurants in this area! Desserts? it's all about them! Breakfast? before 11am! Steak? you got it! It's been difficult to find a place that satisfied both me and my boyfriend and I think we've found our happy (ecstatic) medium. When you first think of this place, you're probably thinking, "O it's just another high priced bakery with breads. How is this different from Panera?" Well dudes and dudettes, I'm here to get you off your fanny and into this restaurant. The first thing you will notice is that they constantly have customers coming into right up until they close. Then you will notice the display window of many different sweet delicacies including chocolate dipped cookies, chocolate dipped cheesecake on a stick (yes, on a stick which they recommend that customers eat in a manner that is not polite), deepdish apple pie and many more! You sit down with a crepe/bar to one side, pizza oven on the other with everything enclosed in a warehouse type setting. Sets the mood, doesn't it? As with all our first time restaurants, we tried almost everything. Starting with the appetizer, we began with the calamari. You MUST eat it with their sweet chili sauce. If you don't look sweet or chili, then don't order this because it's a must in order to enjoy this dish. Sure you can eat it with ketchup, but why don't you just order fries then? The bruschetta is aMAzing. The apple and brie is drizzled in caramel. You can choose 2 or 3 types to be served to you, but I highly recommend that at least one be the apple and brie. My main course with the ribeye steak. Yah, yah. Steak at a bakery? What am I thinking?? Ok, shut up. I was hungry and that looked good. It tasted good too (thank goodness). It's not like your traditionally cooked steak though. It's topped with cooked tomatoes with a drizzling of worcestershire (sp?) sauce. You have to eat it all together! The steak was tender and juicy and was much to my liking. They also have both sweet and savory crepes which I didn't get to try, but I noticed that many people came in to eat just that. From this post on, I will be doing a "..." for my favorite dessert places after I do a full review of the restaurant. Here is my dessert ... for Baker's Crust! .................................. DESSERT!!!!!......................................... I know you want to know about dessert so I saved the best for last! When you come here, you have to save room and indulge in their tasty treats Go for the deep dish apple pie and lava cake!!!! Both are FANtastic. Lava cake, like what you would expect, but better because ice cream makes everything all better.. The apple pie crust was thick and moist. With a side of their vanilla ice cream (which was excellently smooth and creamy), I was ready to die on the spot. I think I did a little. Luckily I'm a cat so I have 2 more lives. So what do you think? Sound tasty? Certainly. Stop cooking and scoot on over to Baker's Crust for a try!

Just ok... I've ordered a pizza to-go and it was burnt (totally black at the bottom). Many food experience isn't very consistent here. Sometimes it's good and hot, sometimes it's cold :(

So my first visit was pretty interesting. The atmosphere was to my liking. My girlfriend an I gave it an A-ok. We sat facing the bar and made ourself comfortable in the corner by scooting an extra table for comfort. The "Jamaican banana French toast" was my favorite! Our 1st server was new, he let us know, however he was wonderful. He took his time informed us well, made suggestions, and found out the things he didn't know. The bartender helped us add a little extra flavor to our Carmel lattes which ended in a second happy round. I would not recommend the meatloaf, VERY bland. However, we will definitely visit Baker's Crust again.
