This place totally rocks! A little musty smelling. Amazing friendly hosts. Faded elegance. Lots of dogs and horses. Surrounding area is gorgeous. Go for a walk on the grounds! For $150 a night this place is a great deal. TripAdvisor loves them too. (My review with pictures up there) tripadvisor.com/ShowUser…

***3.5 stars*** Middleburg is quite an equestrian city so the name fits the spot. I would have expected a shop slightly more rustic, like the rest of the town, but instead found it to be more of a hipster-ish divey coffee joint in a basement unit with a worn black leather couch as (almost) the only indoor seating. Not your average stable. The name is, of course, two-fold: it caters to the horse-centric town as well as the fact that caffeine will get you to giddy up and go in the morning. The place isn't anything too special, with just average coffee, but I'll round up for having two different kinds of iced coffee; usually you just get what you get when it's chilled. I got the dark roast and it was good enough, definitely dark, just how I like my horses. The service was friendly, as is expected for a small local business -- the woman helping me was chatty with the other customer in there who seemed to be a local and helpful to me. There are some snack options available but hay...is for horses. If Mr. Ed was here he'd have more to say about Cuppa Giddy Up. As for me, I'm not one to whinny, unless I don't get my daily fix.

I stopped here last night with my girlfriend, but we didn't have a reservation. They had two seats at the bar which was just fine with us. Jamie was a great bartender/server. He was gregarious, and made us feel quite at home. I had the Bouillabaisse, and my girlfriend had the Lobster Risotto. We shared the Pannacotta for dessert. Everything was remarkable, even the bread. We will definitely return!
I'm definitely a fan of this place. My wife and I went for a good quality lunch on a Friday before wine tasting in Middleburg. We were impressed by the escargot, which was very good (no weird smells or anything) and came out piping hot. The potato leek soup was the best we've ever had, and the lobster risotto was delicious, maybe even iconic. We also had the halibut which was cooked perfectly, yet the flavor was subdued and was overshadowed by how great everything else was. The wine recommendation went well with the meal. Ambiance and people. The clientele were fairly WASPy (I guess it was Middleburg after all), but the ambiance wasn't fancy enough to be considered stuffy. There was paper over the tablecloths, which was surprising given the pricing and quality of the food. The staff weren't refined and snooty, much the opposite, although they were all very kind. Overall I was a fan and would like to return. However, this place is not like Goodstone or the Salamander. If you want a knockout, 5-course French meal with wine pairing, go to Goodstone. If however you want to spend less than $100 for two people (including wine), go here.
Came here this past weekend with my fiance's family and some family friends of ours: fantastic! We were greeted and waited on with top-notch service and everyone enjoyed the delicious food! Chef John is a genius in the kitchen. We each sampled various dishes. The jumbo shrimp app was to die for, as was the lobster risotto. Definitely the favorite dishes of the night! Shout-out to our waiter, Gerald; he was the best! Very attentive, polite, and informative. The perfect host for our evening! Highly recommend. Ask for Gerald!

Red Horse Tavern

This is basic burger and fish and chips place. Service was good but flies were abundant and no real atmosphere I tried several menu items including the potato chip nachos which were ok. The wings weren't bad but the cheese steak was inedible. A few people in my party got fish and chips which looked ok. Seems like good place for pint but not sure the food is worth it. Prices are very reasonable thou
Stumbled upon the Red Horse Tavern while I was wandering down Washington street in Middleburg. It looked pretty busy so I thought that was a good sign. There is lots of outdoor seating. The inside is set up like a bar (hence the name tavern) with bar seating, some tables in the main bar area, and seating in the annex room off the bar. There was a wait to sit outside so my friend and I sat in the annex room. There was no AC. The menu was pretty standard for a bar menu so I wasn't expecting much to begin with. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich ($9.50) and my friend had the fish and chips. The service was painfully slow and food was mediocre at best. My friend had to chase the waiter down to pay the bill and the room we were sitting in was very stuffy. I don't think I'll be coming back to this place - I would rather try something else in the vicinity.
My wife and I came here with another couple last night for dinner and drinks. So glad we did! I don't really understand the negative reviews I see on here except to guess that those are the "stick-up-their-butt" people we were trying to avoid by coming here. I researched a lot of the places to eat and drink in town and found that most places seemed really pretentious. This place didn't look to be that way and it wasn't. We loved it and will be back. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with smiles and great service. The waiter/bartender was right on top of things getting us set up with drinks and appetizers. We were never waiting on them to get to us, and we never lost their attention even though we were so busy talking that we were extremely slow with ordering. Quite simply, the service could not have been better. The food was great! Was it fine dining? No. But then again, we're not the kind of idiots expecting to get a 5 star meal at a place that is a "tavern". The food was really good. The potato nachos were a great appetizer! I had the buffalo chicken wrap and it was really tasty. Everybody enjoyed the food. The drinks were coning out as fast as we could put them down. There was never an empty glass. The band playing last night (Sol Roots) was really good! Perfect level to entertain, yet you could still have a conversation at your table. I tend to be critical on bands since I am a musician, I enjoyed the entertainment. We don't live in Middleburg, we're about 40 minutes away, but we will be back! We really liked the place and can't wait to try out their patio seating once it gets warmer. For all the people with those sticks up your butt, there are plenty of places for you in town. Leave this place for those of us who are trying to avoid you.
